…a bit of Bully on a Monday afternoon.
I actually came across this video from the Daily Mirror a few months back and meant to link to it, but totally forgot.
Here, Bully discusses his England debut against Scotland, his discussion prior to the game with the late, great Sir Bobby Robson and other funny stories surrounding that famous day at Hampden Park.
I really enjoyed this video, particularly when Bully talks about some of the other players attitudes towards him. Sounds like he had to put up with a lot of crap from so-called bigger names, which makes this success story all the more impressive.
Anyway, enjoy!
***Disclaimer*** If you’re not from the Black Country, I probably wouldn’t even bother trying to decipher what is being said in this video.
Thanks to the Wolverhampton Wanderers section of the Daily Mirror for allowing me to use this video.

“Geroutofit you rat!” Nice one bully.
The day I cheered for England !!!!!!
I’ll never forget the look on my father’s & brother’s faces when I shouted – “Get In” when Bully scored his debut goal… We had naturally always shouted for our fellow celts in the Home Internationals, but that goal made me jump out of my seat !!! I’m workin on the translation Kwolf !!!!!
I remember being in the car with my Mom and Dad on the way to Wales when Bully scored his Scotland goal.
Some things you never forget!
Nothing like a Bully goal!
Necastle away memories will go with me to the grave. The goal at Hampden when I sank to my knees and cried with happiness. The winner at the Poorthorns that seemed to put 20 million volts through the Smethwick End, his goal in the Sherpa Van area final against Notts County, and the smasher at Hereford. Why did it have to end?
Just thinking of the things he used to do…. too many to mention but as a snotty nosed 11 year old in the Sahf Bonk it was hard to see most of it!!
Brilliant. Hero doesn’t do it justice does it?
Some of the goalscoring stats will never be seen again. Simple as that.
My favourite one:
From Nov’88 to Mar’89
14 games at Molineux, 27 Bully goals.
Love you to bits Bully!
I must point out though, that Tony Cottee did start that game – you absolute bullshiter!
haha.. good point bazza!
i’ve also heard bully claim in the past that he came on with 10 mins to go (he came on 1st half) and that he came on for justin (not john) fashanu. he basically doesnt have a clue what happened does he?
A friend of mine told me a couple of years ago that the rumours of Bully smacking Lineker because he was trying to take the piss out of Bully’s accent were true. My friend had spent a very enlightening evening with the man himself.
I personally never forgave Bobby Robson for not playing Bully more in the Italia 90 World Cup, especially not bringing him on in the semi final.
He knew what a battering ram he was, he knew what he had done in Jockland and to Checkoslervacki at Wembley, and he knew how he linked up well with Gazza.
We could and should have won that game, before it went to penalties, and we could and probably would have won the World Cup, with Bully scoring in the final.
Like Bully playing for us in the Prem, if only…….
And to all of you out there who think Bully is a legend, you are wrong.
Bully is a god.
Don’t forget, in the dark days of the third and fourth division, Bully saved the club.
We love to see good defenders and good goalies, but we adore goalscorers, and we came and we paid and we worshipped at the altar that was Steven Bull, who with his goals saved our beloved club.
No, don’t put him on the pedestal of mere mortals, put him up high, in that never to be bettered zone, and let us give thanks, to Bully and to Ron Saunders who said he would never score goals.
Thank you Ron.
and still….FOWB
Yeah, great find. Looks like Bully was keeping it real amongst some of the top flight muppets. I really hope he did lamp Lineker.
Loving that. I had a 15 minute chat with Bully on the phone the other week and I just loved the man’s passion for the game. Told me the press shouldn’t have aired the Terry story, I think things were a tad different in his day.
