Wolves are reportedly eyeing a move for Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season, according to a recent report from Football Insider.
The Sky Blues forward has been with the club since 2021, and wasted no time in making his mark with the Championship side, having moved to them from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Swedish international has played a starring role in Coventry’s push for promotion back into the top-flight of English football this term under the management of Mark Robins, and the club’s supporters will be eager to see their side get over the line in the play-offs this season.
Gyokeres has made 46 appearances in total for Coventry this season, and has chipped in with 22 goals and ten assists, which makes for hugely impressive reading for the 24-year-old. It appears as though that strong run of form hasn’t gone unnoticed though, as the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Everton, and Leeds United are reportedly interested in landing his signature at the earliest of opportunities.
Coventry are seemingly resigned to losing their star striker this summer if they fall short in their bid to win promotion, and Wolves are rumoured to be one of the clubs keen on striking an agreement to sign the Swede. A deal in the region of £15m – £20m could be struck in the future, and Wolves could certainly benefit from adding a player of Gyokeres’ quality to their squad ahead of the 2023/24 league campaign, where they’ll be looking more towards a top-half finish, after a season which has lacked consistency at times.
Goals have been a problem for Wolves this season, and it’s no surprise to see the club potentially looking at signing a striker in the summer. They’ve scored just 29 goals (as of 4th May), and with Ruben Neves and Daniel Podence both being joint top goalscorers on just six for the season, it doesn’t make for the most encouraging reading. Signing a player of Gyokeres’ quality is a must this summer, and given that he’s only 24, and with a point to prove in the Premier League after being sold by high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion, it’s a move that would surely make sense for all parties involved.

Raúl Jiménez is 31 now, and seems as though he’s past his best performances in front of goal, whilst Hwang Hee-chan hasn’t exactly hit the ground running in terms of goals, with the South Korean international having just three goals to his name from his 28 appearances in all competitions this term. Therefore, Julen Lopetegui’s side need a striker that has shown they can score goals on a consistent basis, and Gyokeres fits that description perfectly, and it should be a no-brainer for the club to follow up their interest with a formal bid for his services.
Wolves could be a tempting club to join for the Coventry City forward as well, as they look to have all but secured their status as a Premier League club for another season, which means they can look forward to bigger and better things in the new league campaign. Whereas the likes of Leeds United and Everton who are also keen on a deal to sign the 24-year-old, don’t have the assurances of playing top-flight football next season, as they’re firmly in a relegation scrap heading into the final few matches of the 2022/23 season.
It’s set to be an interesting summer transfer window ahead, and beating rival Premier League clubs in landing Gyokeres’ signature would be a real statement of Wolves’ intent for the new season, as well as it likely to prove a shrewd move.
