With no disrespect to Rotherham or Crawley, I think this fixture will provide a more accurate measure of progress.
Reading aren’t in particularly great shape, but like us they’re a midtable team looking to improve on last season.
It’s a winnable game but any result we get in these early rounds must be considered a bonus as Fosun look towards reshaping and upgrading our squad.
The reported big money bid for Derby’s Chris Martin was welcome news, providing the first clear evidence our new owners are prepared to invest heavily in proven domestic talent.
Looking down the squad, I think we’re short another three or four players if the objective is a promotion push this season.
Reading
All change at the Mad Stad over the summer with Brian McDermott given the shove after just months in charge and replaced by Jaap Stam.
The Dutchman is already tempering expectations, openly stating he thinks it will be tough to get near the top six. One wonders if he’ll be given the time to execute a longer term plan?
Still, they couldn’t have asked for a better start, beating Preston by a goal to nil last weekend and coming through two nil against Plymouth in the League Cup.
I got this from Reading supporter Dan from the Tilehurst End Blog:
2016/17 looks to be the most unpredictable season we’ve had since Tommy Burns ripped up the squad ahead of our first season at the Madejski in 1998. Brian McDermott was sacked (again) and shockingly replaced with Jaap Stam who’s at least brought a bit of a buzz back around the place after four successive seasons of decline.
Financially we’re nowhere near the big boys despite as evidenced by selling Oliver Norwood to Brighton and Aaron Tshibola to Aston Villa, so the club’s new approach has been to use the European market and bring in a lot of players from the fringes of big teams to see if they can click at Championship level. It’s an ambitious but a big gamble as the squad looks painfully thin on experience right now BUT if everything does click and Stam manages to add a couple of heads before deadline day it could be an exciting season.
Roy Beerens is a name more familiar for his Pro Evo & Football Manager skills than an actual footballing pedigree but he could be magic if Stam gets his head straight. Likewise if Garath McCleary can return to anything near his form of a couple of years ago he’s one of the best in this division. Through in a lot of promising Academy products and this season is going to be interesting at the very least. As to how I think it’ll go, I can see us settling down in mid-table and I’d be very happy with that!
Wolves
Still almost impossible to predict Walter Zenga’s preferred XI, as evidenced by Tuesday’s team selection. This would be my best guess for tomorrow:

If Costa is fully up to speed there must be a temptation to throw him in from the start, but more likely he’ll get another go from the bench.
Teixeira looks further along in his fitness and I’d imagine he might be given license to roam in behind Bodvarsson, backed up by the workhorse Edwards and the pick of Tuesday’s midfielders – Jack Price.
Dominic Iorfa will surely return to the back four and the defensive unit need to rapidly improve having looked creaky so far. No more set piece concessions please boys.
Predictions
There are far too many variables on both sides to have any real grasp on what might happen in this one, but I’ll focus on Wolves.
If Jon Dadi Bodvarsson influences this game in anything like the way he was able to at the New York Stadium last weekend, we’ll have a great chance.
Defensively, I think individually and collectively we’re capable of doing much better than we have been, but still not confident about keeping a cleansheet.
I’ll go for a narrow home win – 2-1
Up The Wolves!

A narrow win for me too.
Let’s hope that Walt gives his half time talk before the kick off tomorrow, then we might get 90 minutes of football instead of the usual 45.
But he seems to have a knack of changing things when they’re going tits up so I’m feeling positive.
I totally. Agree can’t really call this one,so going for home, advantage cmon the wolves
Too early in the season to realistically make a statement about how we are doing or going to do. I do believe however, that once Walt integrates all the new guys and we start performing as a team, we will do okay this season.
I agree with a number of bloggers who are calling for a central defender to steady the ship, and I hope to see our management team address that in a timely manner. I also hope to see our front men become more clinical in their finishing, as without goals you can’t win a game.
Looking forward to meeting up with fellow bloggers tomorrow. I am arriving tonight and staying in Low Hill, so if anyone fancy’s a pint tonight let me know.
This one will be quite close in my opinion so my prediction is:
This is all hope rather than expectation, but the new recruits seem to have improved the team, and I expect all of the 3 fit players to play some part.
Team needs to gel so hopefully things are going to get better as time goes on, but this is a game we can and should win.
Two teams in transition, cant see us keeping a clean sheet, but encouraged by performances thus far
I think we have goals in us but, unfortunately, I think our defence are equally capable of letting in. The back four have looked very shaky against average teams and I just can’t see a vast improvememt happening in the space of a few days, especially against better opposition.
I hope we nick it 3-2 but I’m going for a 2-2 draw.
Narrow win for me, too. I’m gonna go for Mason and Bodvarsson.
Based on last Saturday and Tuesday I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet.
Anyone fancying good beer and great atmosphere before/after the game can try The Emerald Club, Cross Street North, W-ton. Only a 10 minute (max) walk to the ground. Parking in local side streets is normally available if you can’t get on the car park.
Cannock,
About 16 of us are meeting 1 hour before ko in the North Bank bar, (pre arranged) if you could get there it would be great to meet up with you.
Can’t make it tomorrow (got my grandson with me) but thanks for the invite.
Will definitely meet up at some stage.
Gonna go for a draw-not confident enough yet to predict a win. Really need one of these supposed ‘transfer approaches’ to come off like martin or dare I say talisca. COYW
Still not good enough to beat an average team like Reading.
I agree with you Thomas, I’m not confident we can keep a clean sheet. I also believe that the objective is very much for a promotion push this season but nobody’s going to come out and say it. Zenga is going to increasingly push our boys to their limits to have a crack at promotion. Our old-regime players will have to man up or leave. We can’t have statuesque defending of the type we saw against Rotherham and Crawley. Jackett’s (yes, they are his players) defence had more holes than an old moth-eaten jacket. Enough. They are on borrowed time with Zenga.
My prediction is that we will concede but the goals will flow at the other end. Bid Dadi to get a brace and Mason to chip in.
I think the same as you Dance
Like everyone else I think it is to early to get overexcited but hoping for a win.
Looking forward to meeting up with some fellow bloggers in the North Bank bar before the match.
See you in the bar mate. Looking forward to it.
See you in the bar mate. Looking forward to meeting up with some new faces.
Narrow win for me too. If we are serious about a push for the play offs (or better…) then we need to be winning home games against teams of a similar quality like Reading.
I agree with the starting line up except I would play Coady instead of Edwards. For me Coady, Price and Teixeira are our best midfield combination with Edwards, Saville and Evans providing support from the bench. I’d also stick with Henry and Wallace on the wings for the time being in the absence of anyone better or fitter.
I expect a bit more chopping and changing from Zenga until he gets to know the squad better and works out his best eleven.
Its never to early to get excited.
Said that to the boss once at three in the morning and got a knee in the nuts!
I digress!
Early season winning momentum can set a club up for the rest of the year, so tomorrow I expect a tremendous Molineux roar for ALL the new people at the club, and maximum effort on the pitch.
From the new hires to impress, and from the previous players to try and keep their jobs.
We have to make Molineux a scary place to visit, and now that moxey’s wife’s pies have gone, we must do it on the pitch.
Reading ( why is it not pronounced reeding? ) are there for the taking, and we will give a huge statement of intent by stuffing the snot out of them 5-1
And a hearty FO wb
Clive, I hope your 5-1 predictions have you winning the Prediction League.
At least if I win, it will not be by cheating, like last season’s “winner”, that M62 tent dwelling Chalkie Brompto.
Ha.
I love you too my friend. Was great match today mate. Should have been 4 and could have been 5.
It is spelt that way because you can pronounce it that way. Read as in you Read it, or Read as in you have Read it. They are called Re(a)ding not Reeding. God these plastic Yanks!!!!
Its Mr. Plastic Yank to you, rotund person.
Let’s have some respect on this blog!!
You should not have put your phone number up for all to see, you never know who will call, especially with a six hour time difference!
I trust our bloggers mate!!! Well most of them anyway. Besides, I never hear the damn thing anyway lol.
And ……. less of the rotund. I have lost 7 ounces already. Think it’s gonna take a bit longer than I had expected!
Its a beautiful day
Seemed Reading played well last week. No chance of a clean sheet
It’s kinda weird what’s happened to our defence over the summer. This is the same back four that contributed to all those enthralling 0-0’s in the fag end of last season. Let’s hope they can quickly return to that parsimonious attitude before it’s too late for our season.
Up front, of course, it’s a different story. Bodvarsson, Texeira and Helder Costa have made a massive difference to our creativity and effectiveness going forward and a few more new arrivals of their standard could see us pushing hard for promotion this season.
Reading, however, are never easy, and they’ve made a solid start to the season, which they’ll be looking to continue. Best we feed our front men at the earliest opportunity to keep the pressure off the back line.
Unlike many, I quite like Joe Mason and would like him to cement a place in the eleven, at least until someone better is available. So Wallace – Mason – Texeira behind Bodvarsson for me with Price and A N Other in front of our only back four.
Really looking forward to the game and catching up with a few of you in the North Bank bar pre-match. Probably have a couple in the Combemere later on Friday evening in anyone’s about.
COYW-FOWB
I am getting to Wolverhampton around 5 o’clock tonight mate. I have a few visits in Telford, but I expect to be free around 9 pm tonight. Text your mobile mate to 07464970597 and I will call you to find out where you are buddy.
Not expecting to be in Wolvo until 10ish Brompto but will be heading to the Combemere in Chapel Ash for a shandy or two I’m sure.
I’ve made a note of your number and will let you know when I’m there. I don’t have a mobile myself (technophobic) but Jayney will have hers.
Reading is local to me so I need a win to upset the locals when I wear one of my Wolves shirts 🙂
Looking to get Walter off to his first home league game with a win.
I am also expecting the long drawn out saga of Tasilca to end by him being introduced to us all before the kick off tomorrow. :-0
A win it is then
Still without much of a clue of exactly how good we actually are, it’ll be interesting to see. I’m keen to see how Zenga will line things up once Dicko is fit. Will he go with Dicko alongside Bodvarsson and have Texeira behind? It hasn’t quite got the ring to it that “Sako, Afobe, Dicko” had to it, but after last season’s lack of firepower, it is something to get excited about.
Ho ho ho they’re magic you know
Bodi, Tex and Dicko
Sounds okay to me Bagsy.
Anyway it was Dicko, Afobe Sako actually lol
You’re on it like a car bonnet, Brompton. I’ll get my guitar and we can put this to music. You hum it, I’ll play it!
Chalkie hums a lot, not much in the way of sanitation in his M62 tent!
I thought it was the distinct lack of Banks’s, and some god awful northern ale that could make him hum
Please my gold and black beauties – give us a victory – Let us travel home to the wilds of Bedfordshire light of heart, sound of mind and a song in our throats with a cross section of classics (Eagles, Wings, Golden Earring, Chairman of the Board, Four Tops, Quo, Temptations, Four Seasons etc etc) to keep us occupied once Franksie and WM conks out at Catthorpe. The M6/M1 is boring enough without the added burden of a first home game defeat.
AND with a bit of luck down towards Newport Pagnell we will spot the shit fans in a taxi coming the other way from Palace after a 5 0 defeat.
I know what you mean mate. My journey back to North Yorkshire may only be just over 3 hours but it is made less painful after a good win.
First clean sheet and 3 points of the ‘new beginning’.
Hi Graham. I’m a fellow Horsham-based Wolves fan (a Bridgnorth exile). I was walking around Southwater on my lunch break the other day and spotted a house with a Wolves sticker in the window. We’re spreading out down south, which is great to see!
Hi Bagsy,
We comunicated on the blog about a year or so ago. From my recollection you are in Wimblehurst? Here’s to a fun season.
Ah, that’s right, we did. I’ve moved now…literally across the road onto North Parade. Not far! Yeah, fingers crossed this season gives us the chance to swagger about the mean streets of Horsham in the classic old gold!
I hope the 0-0 scores are a thing of the past. We need Iorfa in the centre with a fit Silvio at left back. I can see this ending as a draw, with better times to come.
Would love a win – but I think it is still to early for us. Defence looks shaky, and we seem to have most of the team from last season. Hoping to see some new faces to inspire confidence.
Another score draw for me. I agree Thomas we’re another 4 players short of the top two for me. Deadline day is going to be exciting this year. If we can get points on the board early on then that will hold us in good stead because our squad is surley going to look very different this time next month. Bodvarsson to score our goal tomorrow.
1st home league home game of the season, owners, coach & fans to impress, we should come out all guns blazing & romp home!
Yeah optimistic I know but hey who cares!
Come on Wolves!!
I’m going for a draw on this one … with goals at a premium and the chances of Stuwolf buying a round even less likely.
Looking forward to meeting some new faces….
Helps if I make a prediction…..
Sorry guys 0-1 for me, as much as I want a win I feel the team does not have what it takes to stop Reeding who have always played good football. With Japp Stam in charge I feel we are not quite fixed yet.
If they can conclude the Martin and Alexi Scholl deal by 5 pm tonight we may get Martin in tomorrow to save us, Scholl would be unfit as yet.
Talisca, I’m sick to death of hearing about him, it’s worse than an episode of Dirty Den shooting Sharron in the back with a knife on a wet Sunday in Wetherfield.
So sadly 0-1 for me
Was going to go for 2-1 but everyone else seems to have gone fpr that – apart for Clivey-boy of course – so have decided to be a bit different and plumped for 3-2.
Can’t be there this week unfortunately but hope to be at the Ipswich game on Tuesday night.
Hope you’re going to put a shift in Bedford, going all the way there
Hopefully this has worked – picture of me and the great Steve Bull at my eldest son’s wedding last week in Liverpool.
Report to follow’
You really are short, Bedders, aren’t you??!!
Never mind all that, how is your missus?
Eff off you Texan – don’t you know Bully is over 7 feet tall?
She is still in hospital at the moment, bit better and due out today after 4pm. Am so pleased as have run out of takeaways to have. Monday was fish and chips, Tuesday was Indian, Wednesday was pizza and Thursday was Chinese. Thanks for asking mate. Appreciated.
Good luck and best wishes to Mrs B Bedders ….. hope to see you on Tues..x
Cheers Twixo – travelling up with BOG and Tim Salt (of the Earth) and think we are arriving about 530pm and getting something to eat (Italian I think in homage to Walter Zenga). They are both Billy Quiet whilst I am North Bank. Might see you outside by Billy’s statue, even if it’s to say hello and swap chocolate bars. 07709491138.
With a likely fired up home crowd atmosphere should be good and because we are Wolves this could turn out to be a desperately disappointing draw..or worse
However I do think we will ride Zenga’s mojo for a few games at least so I’ll pick us to scrape a win somehow and then let’s hope more fresh blood arrives before transfer deadline as this isn’t a playoff level team
I can’t wait for this game to come around and to see the new regime in action. The Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday cycle is pretty relentless but its early days and hopefully Bodvarsson, Costa and Teixeira will all play.
Here’s to Wolves playing with skill and passion from the off, rather WZ working his magic at half time.
I’m aiming to get to Wolves in time for the pre-match get together in the North Bank Bar, so hopefully see some of you there.
Yippeee it worked!
A few highlights from my chat with Bully.
Do you wish you were playing now with all the millions of pounds players get paid?
SB; No. I wouldn’t swap what I did and when I did it for all the money in the world.
Did you ever seriously think about leaving Wolves?
SB: I had 4 offers – Coventry, Villa, Newcastle and Torino. Newcastle was the closest I came but even then not really. They wanted me but when I said no then went for their 2nd choice, Andy Cole.
At the 1990 World Cup did you really lump Gary Lineker as is widely rumoured as Bobby Robson was going to pick you instead of Beardsley and Lineker went into a strop and convinced Robson to stick with the hunchback dwarf?
SB: No. No truth at all. Mind you I might thump the big eared twat if I ever saw him now.
What was it like being with England at a World Cup?
SB: Fabulous. Amazing. Can’t really put it into words. Mind you I was a bit of an outside as bnearly everyone there played in London or Manchester or Liverpool and none of them could understand my accent. There was also a bit of an ‘in-crowd’ of players who seemed to control a lot of what went on. Lineker, Beardsley, Gascoigne, Waddle, Barnes – people like that.
Who was the best manager you had?
SB: Graham Turner at club level and Bobby Robson at international level.
And the worst?
SB: I’d rather not say but it was the same person at club and international level!
What do you reckon to the new Chinese owners and Walter Zenga and how do you think we’ll do this season?
SB: Not met the new owners yet but Zenga seems very focussed. This season? Promoted!
A picture of the happy couple. Oh and Daryl’s new wife Jen.
Congratulations to all concerned and pleased that your awful take away experience is coming to an end.
Get the present Mrs BW in the kitchen without delay.
Brilliant ! How did you get Steve Bull to the wedding? Let me know because I might consider getting married* again just so I can get him at my wedding.
* I have to find a woman first so no rush !
😉
As in everything football related money talks.
I was going to offer him a ‘go’ on the new wife as part payment , that and a couple of pints and mash and pie buffet.
🙂
Home win, Big Dadi to score again.
Can’t see us bringing in new players for 2mo tho.
I’m sure Talisca will have time to fly here and back for another medical though.
Be nice to get Martin in, might cost us 10m as Derby aren’t interested in selling him.
Still hoping Zenga can instil some organization in the back four so going for a clean sheet.
A bit more info on LB from Benfica Alexi Scholl who was at Compton yesterday for a medical.
http://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-now-linked-leeds-united-belgian-target/
Even though we still have our average (at best) defence of last season, which desperately needs at least 1 update, I think they will keep a clean sheet tomorrow in support of an Icelandic hat-trick.
As a top notch goalkeeper / defender I expect WZ to tighten up the defence and prevent some of the ridiculous team play at the back — so preventing Reading from scoring.
Overall a tighter game but with Price, Teixeira and Bodvarsson clicking up front I expect two successful raids on the Reading goal.
Sorry I can’t look after you tomorrow Bedford Old Gold, give my regards to all my mates in W2. Bloody Shingles
I think you need to learn how to cook, Bedford! Get’s a few brownie points believe me.
The defence managed all those nil nils last season,’stroker, because the midfield hardly got over the half way line!If we go more expansive then the dangers will be there for all to see so I’m pessimistic I’m afraid.
I knew that really. Bit short of options last season, which is hopefully getting sorted this.
I really don’t know
We always seem to draw against Reading , but what heck !
Up the wolves and see you all at the bar
( I ll be the one at the back who gets there 55 mins before the game )
He also has short arms and very deep pockets.
They re not deep .. I made holes in em !
Apparently we are signing a Congo. International Centre mid just what we need 6,3 tall. 1.9 mill
yes, Express and Star report the footballer known as Prince is at Compton. If we get him and Scholl, the defence may be much improved.
Meanwhile the much improved midfield and attack are scoring goals and it’s definitely time to be putting a few bob on us getting promoted this season.
With our defence we are guaranteed to concede at least one, but probably two. With the madness and unpredictability that is Walter Zenga, I think we will win it by the odd goal. Hopefully unbeaten run continues while we continue to invest. Desperate for some decent centre halves, as our willing workhorses don’t quite cut it for me!
If Walter has watched the footage I have from the last two games he’ll have a defender on each post at set pieces. Consequently, I am (slightly) confident we’ll keep a clean sheet.
Clear, but tense, victory:
Things getting a little better
Wolves2
Reading 1
Can’t bear myself not to predict a win but I genuinely think we are worth 2 goals it’s the obvious to me that I worry about.
I don’t even want to print it as everyone is prob fed up with me saying it.
I just hope that we don’t go goals down in the first half..
So with a reasonable crowd and Dadi Bod leading the charge (and the clap) with tex in the middle I am confident..
Mendez for the first time has embarrassed himself re Talisca there are problems there it seems.. and i’m confused as to who we are now buying.. ie Martin now,and this prince Congo geezer..?
We are not anywhere near it yet – we need to buy buy..and in my opinion you know where..
There is a true feel good factor around carried by two or three characters Bod..Tex and of course Zenga..
Xmas will be coming.. I hope we are getting fat by then..
Wish I could be there with everyone in the North Bank.
COYW and Sako plse..
I don’t want Sako back. He chose to leave. HE should stay away. Don’t need him.
Why not start the new guys? If they need replacing late in the game, at least we may be up by then.
No point playing catch-up all the time.
Goal fest I think but result not in our favour !
Who the hell on here has ‘Liked’ this 2-3 defeat?
Wasn’t the Iorfa appeal denied? Wonder if this means Deslandes gets his chance at LB and Doherty switches over.. if Silvio still can’t go. Really like the look of Teixeira, think we bang a few in.
He served his one match ban on Tuesday with the Crawley match
🙂
I think this will be an even fight. Both teams in transition, and we are dodgy at the back.
I think we’ll have enough to do Reading.
Iv’e just got to do it Guys and Gals, Wolverhampton Wanderers startedlife in Beautiful Staffordshire after all.
Maybe… But GOD (Steve Bull) was Black Country born and Bred,,,
Throw that in your Staffs canal…
Nige, agreed but as soon as he saw sense he bought his house in Norton Canes Staffordshire, incidentley right next to the Staffs Canal. (God’s Country)
🙂
When GOD was born as far as I am aware Tipton was still part of Staffordshire. Sandwell dis not exist.
True Enough But as he told me he will never ever forget his roots and where he was from..
Without his Black Country Upbringing he says he would never have been tough enough…
Soft lot down in Staffs…
Can’t see us keeping a clean sheet but fancy us to score a few
This day I have been mostly eating………….a packet of Walker’s crisps, a Snickers bar, a banana, a packet of Hula Hoops and another Snickers bar.
Come on Mrs BW you’re not in hospital now so get in that fecking kitchen and rattle them pots and pans!
Yippeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought women got married in white so they would match the kitchen units and appliances?
P.S. Please don’t let Mrs BARDwolf know
If women get married in white, why do blokes and undertakers wear black?
I’m looking forward to going to the match but have no idea what to expect. There are some big teams in this division and I think therefore we will have to beat all the fair to middling teams in this league to stand a chance this season, so let’s be positive
The zenga bus is coming!
COTW
C’mon the mighty Wolves!!
Having seen the first two games the defence looks a bit of a worry especially from corners and free kicks. Up front Jon Dadi looks a find good to see he’s more than just a big target man , hopefully we start with two up front because it looks so much better. Early days so a narrow win will do nicely
Wolves 3
Reading 1
First league game at home, players and coach will be up for it, good crowd, can’t see a clean sheet for us but I think we will be good for 3.
Nervous bum twitching last 15 mins (as always), but we’ll park the rusty bus and scrape through
Getting positive feelings from zenga! Hope it continues!
A point at home isn’t really what I’m after but I’m not sure about this defence unless & until we add some quality. Entertaining football would be a good start though!
Two goal win this time.
Free from the shackles of Jackett and M&M..
Walter will unleash the Wolves….
what a great start at home 3-1 Come on !!!
Hoping for a win. No chance of a clean sheet.
Still not too much to go on, but we seem to be able to score and the defence surely must have been worked on.
With Bath and House playing like they are I cannot see us keeping a clean sheet.
I’m disappointed that we have not got any new arrivals in especially in defence………hope I’m wrong but Reading always seem to dump on us.
Expecting a tough test but also expecting us to pass it with a narrow victory.
Not many clean sheets predicted and plenty of goals for Wolves, I’ll settle for …
3-1 to the mighty wolverhampton wanderers of the west midlands
Its gonna be tough, but hoping for the win.
We all know we need to strengthen and I’m sure we will.
We should win our home games then anything else is a bonus.
So come on let’s make some noise tomorrow and roar us on to Victory. UTW.
First home win of the new season.
Lots of negative stuff regarding our back four atm. I think it’s worth remembering iorfa , house etc are still very young and developing , they will also benefit from a bit of protection from a more aggressive midfield too , in fact I think this is where we need a real captain running the game , utw
I agree. Maybe we need a Prince among men?
Torn between a boring 0-0 or a cracker of a 3-2 home win? I’ll go for the positive result with big dadi bagging a brace!
A Wolves won, but than that who knows….
UTW
There you go Wolves Blog hope this helps you advance further.
http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/write-for-us-2/
Missing Amanda already.
Surely you have got a rubberdoll of your own Lobbo ?
Wolves will pull it off 3-1 win for me. I reckon Bodvarrson will kick us some goals. Come on the wolves. 3-1
Would like to see a strong start without major
Changes at half time.cmon Walter , we’re all behind you.
A win and a clean sheet, but won’t be without a scare.
I like the way that things are shaping up and think it will continue this weekend – narrowly.
I think that the defence will step up and keep a clean sheet.
Keep the faith.
Mosman if we keep a clean sheet with DB there I’ll eat my iPhone..
Did it taste nice. Stu told me you watched the game so you saw what we saw. Defence were good today, Batth played well and ikeme ruled his box and was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but was slightly disappointed as we SHOULD have scored 4 and could have scored 5.
This is going to be very interesting game. I get the feeling that Zenga has been throwing everything including a couple of kitchen sinks at the previous 2 games to get something, anything from the match.
Which has worked out well , but obviously not anything even you or I couldn’t do.
I think you are right when you say that this is the game where we will see if Zenga has got the skills to build a team, and this doesn’t really depend on the result.
Obviously I’m optimistic (who isn’t these days?)
Can I get an accumulator on Dangerous Dave sticking one in?
Just glanced at the Prediction League table. Chalkie Brompton have you seen it?
Yes mate. Someone is cheating as I predicted for the last game and my name is not even listed.
Anyway, I was mid table last season until the final few games, so enjoy it while you can lol
I’m fed up of starting my prediction with, “I don’t have a clue”, but I really don’t. It’s like being witness to the Battle of Balaclava as the 600 charge off into the unknown. Anything could happen. So let’s be plucky and go for a good, unexpected, win.
Don’t often get references to the charge of the light brigade on here.
This blog has gone up market.
Pretentious. Moi?
Still worried about the defence.
A tough game and a useful yardstick for where we are.
Hope I’m wrong.
COYW!
I thought Reading were just that bit better prepared than us, but the preview suggests they’re in much the same shape and we do have the Molineux expectation/anticipation/excitement on our side. But another draw I think.
Ist start at home,
Wolves 1 Reading 0
Our back four seemed sound during those forgettable no-score draws of last season but they are definitely unsettled of late; perhaps the weight of possibly being replaced by better players hangs heavy on their shoulders. As fast as we score we shall concede.
Still early days for us. I predict we’ll be 3-0 down by HT. If it gets a new Centre-Back that won’t be a bad thing.
W`ve got to win this one 2-1, before we sign any more players with surnames I cant pronounce.
Enjoy the game everyone
As the great Italian philosopher Balotelli said you should never try to predict anything in football
but hoping to perfect the Icelandic clap in the Southbank today
Travelling down from wet Scorland for hopefully a sunny afternoon in Wolverhampton (I need the vitamin D).
We need to ensure we are tight at the back today, else we will pay the price.
Let’s hope we have a good understanding between midfield and defence and let’s hit them with the counter and hopefully produce an even better score than the one I’ve predicted. COTW!!!
“Optimism is the best defence.” Sign him up!
Wolves to win but we need to get the defending sorted out I just hope we don’t start like last week cos reading a different kind of team
Early days yet with no form guide to give us a clue as to how this game might pan out. I think it will be late September before we can assess any progress.
The defence remains the problem area and I think our defending does not give rise to confidence building for fans or team-mates alike.
Like so many others, I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet today but hope (more than expect) that we create and convert more opportunities than Reading.
I agree with Thomas on this one. Not looking forward to the “clappers”. BTW, I hope that Fosun put some screens in soon! Come on me babbies!
Hoping the Icelandic connection continues to fire.
My head says we may struggle, but my heart says the dynamics have changed for the better at Molineux.
Your first sentence sums it up. A measure of where we are at will be clearer after today
Prince to sign this morning, introduced at the game???
Good to see everyone is still rocking on here.
Pumped for a new season and daring to dream after our crazy pre-season
Hoping to see more new faces included by transfer window close and want to see how/ if some familiar faces can step up starting today.
COYW
Feeling optimistic that we’ll only concede one.
Expecting a tight game but hopefully our new stars will be the difference.
Simply hoping for a win
3.41 being video streamed live off the seats on wolves news and chat face book..
FANTASTIC!!!
Sounded like an absolute corker of a performance, especially from Teixiera and Bod. And everybody else!!
Up the Wolves!!!
Anybody STILL missing Kenny Jackett?
Passion is back. Feels sooooo good!
Solid performance today – we should have had 4 or 5 goals but poor finishing from Mason and Saville in particular. We looked more solid at the back with Iorfa in central defence but the most notable difference was the work rate from the whole team. Some sloppy passing meant that we didn’t capitalize on a few of the chances that we created but – all in all – a very satisfying performance. Roll on Tuesday!!!!
OODCL
What a game. Zenga will do for me at the moment more reaction from him in one game than Jackett all last season.
Good to meet up with some fellow bloggers today
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes over the moon! Anything we get this half of the season is great. What it is not I be a whole lives fan! Love it, COYW
Sorry the last statement made no sense, what it is to be a wolves fan ?????
Sorry I missed fellow bloggers at the North Bank Bar pre-match. Good to see Stu and Brompton briefly afterwards at APV.
Some great touches today from Teixeira but I thought Jon Dadi was magnificent.
The “Prince” and the Pauper.
Irony………
Tony Daley Wolves fitmess capoach. (The most unfit player for Wolves ever)
How about “Teixeira shura, whatever will be, will be, No ones as good as he, Teixeira, shura.
That’s yours for free. If you start making money on it, I want my cut.
Good solid performance could have put them to the sword in the first 20 minutes but shape was good and held them throughout. Got to North bank bar bit late but great to see Stu and Brompton. Wolfstroker looks like all my old geography teachers but what a great guy hats off to all the KJ fans who are embracing the new era. Always a treat to meet up with Matt (Lwl) – all my yesterdays – no johnny come lately – a top Wolves fan with all bases covered.
Great result today…given me hope …although Amanda thinks I’m dillusional…
Great too to meet some new gangstas…Border Wolf, Colin,, Tipton Exile, Newark Wolf and Sue, …as well as some of the more formidable gangstas… London Wolves …thanks for the drink mate..Stuwolf and Jen….Brompton Wolf …who travelled a fair few miles ..as did Wolfstroker and Jayney………
Real fans .. Who don’t live just round the corner from the Mol but travel miles to support Wolves….. True fans who can integrate and hold a conversation…….
Good old boys the lot of ya !
Thought the wolves looked good at 4 3 3
Good going forward in possession and good solid shape without !
Worst Reading performance I’ve witnessed though !
Surprised to hear that we only had 34% possession
Col mate , I think I’m going to get the train up to a few home games , I get home much later but we could grab a few more beers before the game if you fancy it .
Me you and Amanda .
What d ya say girl ?
Ménage a trio waaaaaa
Up the mighty wolves !
Great result, very good overall performance. Defence were solid and Ikeme did his job. I am happy with 3 well earned and well deserved points. Early days yet, but a bit more clinical in our shooting is needed. We all know that it should have been 4 at least.
I understand from a previous post that Steve Showcase is going to eat his mobile as he said that we would not keep a clean sheet while Batth is playing. And we all saw him having a solid game today.
Was great to meet up with the usual gang and meeting new bloggers. See you all again soon I hope.
It’s ok it’s an apple product
Tim …Tex song should be sung! Fair play and a great chant…
Definite chemical taste when you get going best to start with the cover can’t quite get through the casing….
Cheers DB..
Nice one mate. Hope all is well, and don’t work too hard. Hope to catch up soon. You will have to give me the live link for when I can’t get to games.
