It seemed inconceivable back in August that Peterborough wouldn’t be challenging for the top two.

Their form at the end of last season was remarkable and only a great escape from Barnsley saw them relegated on the final day.
The summer signing of Britt Asombalonga and a rapid start to the campaign suggested they’d be the team to watch.
It hasn’t happened though and inconsistency has dogged their progress throughout.
Peterborough
A Wembley win in last weekend’s JPT final could be the catalyst Darren Ferguson’s side need to go on and secure promotion through the play-offs.
A midweek win over Colchester means they now have a four point lead over Swindon in seventh, still with a game in hand.
Away form has been a problem for the Posh and they’ve lost 10 matches on their travels already. None of the five teams above them have lost more than three.
The danger man is undoubtedly Assombalonga who has 29 goals this season. You suspect he’ll be playing at a higher level next year regardless of what division his current employers occupy.
Wolves
In the sense that it was top against bottom, a draw at Stevenage looks like a missed opportunity. But with the team now battling against a points requirement as much as the chasing pack, I see it as a valuable step towards the finishing line.

With James Henry likely to miss out it would be a useful time for Bakary Sako to regain fitness. Kenny said he was hopeful so fingers crossed.
Without Henry or Sako you worry there could be a supply issue. It’s already been suggested that a narrower shape might need to be employed without flying wingers at our disposal.
But if the trip to Sheffield United a few weeks taught me anything it’s that the team sheet isn’t everything. It’s about how the players slot together and exercise the game plan.
I have every faith Wolves will be well prepared, as they usually are these days.
The gaffer
Predicitions
Still playing catch up with the PL but midweek was a low scoring affair with most believing we’d win.
I think this will be a tough game against a side that might see this as a no pressure fixture.
They still need points to secure that play-off place but with a four point cushion, a game in hand and easier fixtures to come, they might try and enjoy this one.
I’d back our best team to beat anyone but I don’t think tomorrow will be our best team so it’s a hard one to call.
I’ll go for a score draw.
2-2.
Up The Wolves

I don’t know; our form hasn’t been great of late. Could be a draw or one goal in it. Got to remain positive and hope we pull it off.
Wolves 2 Posh 1
Apologies for the slightly dodgy nature of this post. Had to produce it entirely on my mobile phone due to unforeseen circumstances. Hopefully I can tidy it up later.
The only thing slightly dodgy about it seems to be the prediction!
It’s not good enough Thomas.
Letting standards slip at this important time of the season sends out all the wrong messages to the team.
I will overlook it this once but please don’t let it happen again.
Disgraceful!
Go to the headmaster’s study immediately!
Shocking. Almost what you would expect off the stripey shirts down the road!
I seem to have got in early this week, let’s hope Wolves can do the same, we need to get back to the form at Sheff Utd and Brentford. Apparently Sako will be back, and hopefully Dicko will start and they’ll do the business for us.
Wolves 3 Peterborough 0
I was there last (2012) Xmas when they beat us. Time for payback !
Tough one to call but ironically we’ll probably play better against a team nearer to us at the top end. l’m going for a 2-1 victory and another 3 points to us.
I reckon this match will be all about taking chances..and that means Clarke If he plays – my faith is in Dicko and Jacobs…
If we go goal / goals up in the first half then our defence will win the game for us..2-1 Wolves
I hope Sako makes it – he’s due a belter of a goal …
Wolves 3 1 Peterborough. Leon Clarke ha trick. If this post gets any likes then I’ll know that my fellow wolves fans have a great sense of humour
A tricky one but on current form they should be more worried about us than we are of them. Let’s just hope the manager of the month curse doesn’t strike…
Wolves 2 – Posh 1
UTW
I think I’m sitting on the fence this week with a stressful draw
Wolves 1-1 Peterborough
Orient have a tough match and not sure Rotherham will have it all their own way v Gillingham
I don’t think we’ve been in great form the past couple of games, we’ve not taken our chances and I could see Posh spoiling the party tomorrow. Obviously I hope I’m wrong, so I’ll hedge my bets and go for a 1-1. It’d be another point nearer the Championship though and I’m still confident we won’t manage to goose it up.
Wolves 4 – 0 Posh, a very comfortable win against a team that will be hungover from their Wembley win still.
I’ll stick to a 3-1 win, though I wouldn’t be too disappointed with a point here. Keen to see what the team sheet will look like – if McAlinden can pretty much come in cold to play left wing and not look too out of place it suggests KJ has everyone training to fill at least two roles (possibly two roles in each system, 4-2-3-1 & 4-4-2), which is great.
It’s a difficult one to predict.
We’ve been misfiring and they have been purring the last couple of games.
Their Wembley win will give them one heck of a boost.
Henry missing will be a blow.
They have a 29 goal striker.
Oh! Dear!
But we’re the mighty Wolves.
We’re top of the league.
We have the manager of the month.
Sod it!
We’re going to win.
2-1 to the men in old gold.
On another subject.
I am disappointed to read on the E&S website that Sako’s future at Wolves is still in doubt.
Apparently he said yesterday that he wants to play in the Premier league.
Did he volunteer this information or was he asked?
If he was asked, who asked him?
If any of the Wolves players were being interviewed and the interviewer said “Would you like to play in the Prem?”, would any of them say no?
I don’t think so.
Is this a real story or is it just a media stir-up to unsettle the side as we go into the last, and most important, few games of the season.
In the words of the great Francis Urquhart:-
“You might very well think that; I couldn’t possibly comment”.
It would be like E&S asking me if I would like to win the lottery ! 😉
Of course every player wants to play at the highest level. The media always ask stupid questions, they can’t help it –
Q _ “What do you need to do to get a result from this game?”
A _ “Score more goals than the opposition !”
🙂
They lifted that quote from an interview he did with FourFourTwo and then slapped a typically sensationalist headline on it.
Here’s the full story:
http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/ligue-1-league-one-how-bakary-sako-left-france-find-love-wolves
In the same article he talks about his strong relationship with the manager, supporters and of course Dicko.
He also alludes to the idea that if an agreement that suits all parties can be made, he may well re-sign.
The fact is he’s only got a year left on his contract after this season so if an offer comes in from the Prem, it’s likely he’ll be off. Wolves won’t want to lose him for nothing and he’s earned the right to try his hand at a higher level. The fact he’s been playing in League One is ridiculous.
Will a Prem club take him though? He’s a gamble because consistency is an issue. Will be interesting to monitor. Would love him to stay. A fantastic talent and always entertaining. One my favourite ever players.
Here’s a question I asked my old man in the pub a few months back:
Has any player scored more goals from outside the penalty area for Wolves? I can only think of Bully amongst his extensive collection. Maybe some of the older heads will have an answer?
Probably not or even never … the old dubbing and leather balls of yesteryear struggled to reach the target from that far out !!! lol
Cheers for that Thomas.
As I suspected.
That is bloody outrageous!!!
In answer to your question, I would guess Kenny Hibbit would have scored more from outside the box.
I seem to remember most of his goals coming from a long way out.
But he was a Wolves player for a hell of a long time, so comparisons are a bit unfair.
I remember Frank Wignall scoring a cracker from outside the box. Forty-five years on it might be just nostalgia but, in my mind, it was one of the best goals I ever saw at the Molineux.
He was only with the Wolves for about a year but he seemed to score every other match.
Hope he’s still with us and well!
Another clean sheet for us will help us to a 2-0 win for Wolves.
Doogooder,
Kenny Jackett summed it up, he talked to Sako and the lad said “he was more than happy here”.
My take on tomorrow, we have some pretty tired Wolves players whose heads are spinning with
everything that’s happening. Saturday and Tuesday they didn’t perform like we know they can.
All that said, playing a footballing side with the ball on the ground, we will come through again.
3-0 Wolves please.
The return of Sako for this one has got to be a boost, and I’m trusting that KJ has a plan to deal with the threat from Asombalonga. So, with a home crowd and a decent pitch this should be an entertaining game. Wolves to win 3-0.
Every game for Wolves is a pressure game. The opposition see us as a big scalp and tend to play above themselves. It’s the effect we have on them. They beat us and you would think they had won the Champions League Final ! 😉
Forget previous meetings. We are Wolves, we are THE team, the complete package – Good defence, good midfield and good attacking players. Posh will not be able to live with us, we will canter to a win easily.
Wolves 4 – 1 Peterborough
🙂
Should be a good game, think it will be a nervy win.
Wolves 1 – 0 Posh
WOLVES 1 POSH 2
Can see us slipping up here :/
Wolves 1-0 Posh, Squeeky bum time down the Mol !
I can’t understand all this “we haven’t played well for the past few games” stuff.
The adage in football basically says that it’s better to play shitely and pick up wins (or draws) than to play out of this world and come away with fuck all. (What 7 points from the last 3 away games) … hello.
We’re doing very nicely thank you .. I go home happy every week but obviously some of you think we should be pummeling everybody 5 v 1.
Tomorrow is “the next game” to me ..it’s at home and we will win … 4 v 0 . We’ll then be another 3 points nearer to promotion … simples
Twixfix
I am afraid we have become very accustomed to some excellent football this season, and all that some of us are doing is making a comparison to those games, Wolves running through our veins, we are there home and away and we have spotted tired legs and dropping heads in the last couple of games. We are in Awe of these guys who have given so much this year, they can draw every game of the last 6 and I would be delirious, but I would love to see the ball on the floor and them working their magic, it has what has got us all talking this season and kept us turning up in such numbers. Even Leon would fair better with the ball at his feet instead of the old up and under in the last two games.
Thanks for your reply StuWolf. Lets get nothing out of context here .. I too am over the moon with how the season has gone .. how it’s a far cry from the coach/ managers performances of last year. (Solbakken/Saunders etc) … people who frankly didn’t have a clue how to manage or how to build a proper footballing team.
For sure the standards reached in some games this season haven’t been emulated of late BUT we’re top of the league by some 10/11 points of the team in 3rd place and my way of looking at it is .. so long as we are playing football on the deck or even having some variationin the play ie the long ball (Not that I’m in favour of it) .. so long as it’s bringing in the desired result and we reach our goal (PROMOTION) ..I’M HAPPY
Wolves 2-0 Peterborough
With the strong possibility of both Sako and Edwards in the starting line up I think this game is very hard to call. If they are both at the top of their game we will almost certainly breeze home. However a 0-2 defeat lurks in my mind. On the plus side I am complete shite at predicting our results.
Tough game but we’ll edge it (I hope!!).
Wolves 2 – 1 Posh
UTW
Well, here we are, the back end of nine games in 28 days. The last two on really bad playing surfaces, and holy moley, what a predicament we find ourselves in. Top of the league, 6 points clear of second place, 11 points clear of third, and six games to play.
Second best defensive record IN THE COUNTRY.
Terrible.
Bet none of the other teams in this league would swap places with us.
No sirree Bob!
What the fuck is wrong with all of us?
Yes, they are young and healthy and fit, but even the strongest amongst them must be feeling the strain, and the nerves will be jingling, knowing we are tantalizingly close to promotion.
Get over it lads, and get behind the team!!
We don’t need doubts creeping in now, at this stage of the campaign, we need 1 million percent support, to help them over the finish line.
Let’s be totally frank, none of us could have envisioned where we are, with 6 games left, after then final whistle of last season, with Saunders and his donkeys plodding from the Brighton pitch, could we?
This bloke Jackett, who ?, we all said, has worked more miracles in nine months than JC has done in the past 2000 years.
He has not put an inch, let alone a foot, wrong, and deserves total support from all of us until we are across the finish line, and then the same support from the board.
First things first, let’s get promotion, then the champions winners medals, then squad strengthening.
Peterbro will be living on last year’s performance at the Mol, will think they are invincible coz they just beat Chesterfield and Colchester, and their boss will tell them he knows everything there is to know about us, as he once “played” for us, and coz he’s gotta big head, like his Dad.
Nah, no worries tomorrow,
This time I know the lads will not let me down.
Wufflers 5 Beckham’s tart 1

Agreed Clive,
Although we are Wolves fans we are allowed to be positive and have some fun basking in our
League position. We must all keep our heads and our perspective, a bit like the players in fact.
We must keep the faith and just be patient, which is hard I know. Class usually does tell, so we will be OK.
League tables do not lie, we have come this far. Kenny and the team will not let us or themselves down now.
UTW and be done with doom and gloom !
We need to play it like Sheffield United again – completely mix it up with a different XI and try out a new game plan. Gotta keep it fresh so we don’t become too predictable.
My first home game since December tomorrow so just because of that I’m plumping for a 3-1 win. Complete faith in Kenny.
I`ve just been down the local post office in Chesterfield and chatted to the Post Master, a Sheff Utd fan who has just had his ticket for his clubs FA cup semi final, and he said the Blades would help us by beating Orient and Rotherham. There you are from the horse`s mouth.
Chesterfield outplayed Posh at Wembley but couldn`t take their chances, and Posh must be more knackered than we are after playing Sunday & Wed.
They let goals in, and with our ultra mean defence I can`t see anything but a wolves win, as for the score well 2-0 will do me. So long as we get 3 points I don`t really care what the score is though!!
HELP!
This old, poor duffer is desperate to get a ticket for the Carlisle game.
Online I need a membership number, which I haven’t got.
The premium telephone ticket number had me at 26th, 16th and 19th in the queue when I tried.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
For the game against Posh I agree totally with Clive regarding our position, ability and the need to give maximum support. My usual forecast of Wolves 3 Peterborough 0.
I’ll sell you mine for 5 grand!!!
Grandchildren ? Done!
Hope Sako is fit, but also that Kenny doesn’t rush it and we loose him for longer.
Thinking a Wolves win, just.
Wolves 2 Posh 1.
We’ve enough people who can score and I fancy some of them to demonstrate that ….
Wolves 4 Peterborough 1
Back to Brentford form is due and I think will come tomorrow. 4-2 win for me.
3 points against this lot would be a great result for us, especially after our double dicking last year.
2-1 to the WOLVES
UTW
My son has just pointed out it was only a single dicking last year ………smart arse
End of the season can bring some odd results.Let’s hope this will not be one of them ! I’m going for na Wolves win.
Wolves 2 Peterboro 0
We seem to do be doing better against the better teams, so hope that continues. And we owe them for defeat away this season as well as Xmas 2012 at Molineux – Wolves 2 Peterborough 0.
2-0 win and one step closer to promotion.
Keep the faith.
Wolves 3 – Posh 1
They are saying there could be 24000 there tomorrow, if Posh bring 2000 then that leaves me and the 21999 rest of you that need to shout our lungs out for LEON CLARKE. The lad will get goals I’m sure, when he does it will rain Goals. Let’s give him our total backing guys.
Let’s get the points tomorrow, why? Because what do points make? ………… Points make prizes.
Wolves 2:0 Peterbro
As we near the line may look a little like we are running on empty but 2-1 to WWFC. Would like to see Stearman get a new contract has shown more maturity and BOTY (beard of the year).
Any sore will do so long as wolves win but I’ll go for a 2-1. to us
Well, we all know about the Curse of the Manager of Month award.
We all know about returning players – Darren Ferguson.
We all expect to win. So, I’m playing tactical with my prediction:-
A) cus I need PL points, against the trend,
B) cus I’m hoping for a bit of reverse physcology – want us to win!
Wolves 0 Peterbro 1
Tough one to call with the way we’re playing of late, without Henry n Sako could be tough again,
but we’re at home and we could make the difference,so come on you wolves fans and get behind lads and back them all the way, with us all behind them we will win.
3-1 UTW
Am hoping Sako plays and stays.
He might fancy a season getting us into the Premier league after this one.
Think Kenny is being canny by not revealing whose available.
Means the other team do not know what to expect.
I expect Wolves 4 Posh 0…
We’re at the business end of the season and points matter now more than performances – obviousleee! Wolves to scrape a 1-0 win over a team managed by a really disappointing former Wolves player! Although, despite all the near misses and let-down performances when it mattered (like the 2 Palace games in the play-offs) I really enjoyed my football in the 90s. All those beer fuelled train journeys – great memories! Back to now, congrats KJ – MoM for March. Can’t wait to shake his hand. No matter how it pans out – he’s help make this Wolves home in North London a happy one! Kenny Jackett’s gold and black army! Come on the old gold n black!
Only just read your comments on goals from outside the box Thomas, but Ron Flowers used to score some crackers.Possibly before your dads time too.
T omorrow we`ll wallop the Posh,4- 0 to the boys in old gold.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Dad got drunk with Ron Flowers when they were young men – homemade egg nog
Wolves 1 Posh 2 Looking forward to them proving me wrong
Pissed up after rare night out/Still thinking about the wanderers! Wolves 0 Posh 2
I know we are all focused on the top of the league table, but has anyone taken a look at the bottom recently?
It’s a melting pot down there. No certain drops, nobody safe below say 17th spot.
This league is one crazy place. I remember the last time we were here and wasn’t expecting much football wise this season but have been proved totally wrong.
I strongly believe there is a very small gap between the top half of the third division and the 2nd division.
We have a young, emerging team, and I for one am very encouraged by the ongoing work of our leader,…..
King Kenny.
Come one boys let’s set the football league alight as we have before.
Out of darkness cometh light.
Wolves to win 1-0. This season is fun.
Worried that we are starting to find it difficult to score and without Henry & maybe Sako, it could be a bit of a grind. Wolves 0 – Posh 1.
Wolves 3-1 Peterborough.
Wolves 2 Peterborough 1
Wolves 2-1 Peterboro
They have only drawn 4 all season and theyve lost 10 away and our home form is immense…
Wolves 6 Posh 2
Wolves 3 Posh 1
If Sako is back – and rumour has it that he is – I think he’ll be refreshed. And assuming Dicko starts I reckon we’ll win 3-0.
Come on me babbies!!
Narrow 1-0 victory.
Tought game to call there front 2 are big lads skillful as well so our defence will have to be on top form today the have goals in them that’s for sure.
I think the last 3 games we have looked jaded
Always seems a struggle against posh hope for a narrow 2-1 win
Hadn’t finished pressed Publish by mistake.
I think it could end up 2.2 or 3.3 but I’m hoping for a win so I’ll officially go for 3.2 to Wolves
Come on Wolves! I’ll go for a 2-0 win!
It is that time of the season to grind results out. When the finish line is in sight you can feel like you are running through treacle.
Wolves 1-1 Posh
Tough one to call, so I will go for my not very trusty 2 – 1 one win!!!
So nearly there now, so close.
And when we have our champions party, are we going to invite MM, Clipboard, Saunders the Donkey etc etc?
I’m keeping the faith. 1-0 to the wolves
Wolves 2 Peterborough 0
Cracking result today, well done Kenny and the boys.
Rotherhams max points total they can achieve is 96, our current is 90. Taking into account our large goal difference, we could be celebrating at home against Rotherham.
I hate ifs and buts usually… “But” win our next game and Rotherham draw, then our game against Rotherham will feel like a cup final and I cannot imagine a single one of our players not wanting to come out and put in their best game in a Wolves shirt.
If Rotherham do not drop any points but we still win our next game, then we would be “unofficially” secured if we can then beat Rotherham, as I cannot see them closing the 20 goals difference in the remaining games, so balls to any suggestions we need 7 points… I propose we only need 6!
Up the beards!
And I reckon we’ll get 105 points total for the season!!!
My last post was mathematical bollocks!
I had not taken into account if we beat Rotherham that they could only amass 93 points, which in what we (hopefully) should already be on by the time we meet them, so with us amassing 96 points to Rotherhams possible 93, means we are promoted at the home game.
So just a draw next game and a win against Rotherham would still give us promotion at home (this would be the unofficial promotion based on goal difference), but I’m sure the party in the stands would start anyway!
