If you’re one of the select few making the long trip up to the Riverside tonight, I applaud you.

Had circumstances allowed, I would probably have gone too, such is the importance – in my eyes at least – of the League Cup.
I want to go to Wembley this season and this probably represents our best shot.
The big boys tend to take the FA Cup (slightly) more seriously and the play-offs look increasingly unlikely with every passing performance, long term injury and outbound transfer.
Sadly, this is a stinker of a tie at a ground where we’ve never once managed a decent result.
Please buck the trend Wolves.
Middlesbrough
Aitor Karanka says the League Cup is important to Boro too this season, so any hopes of him playing the reserves and/or the kids are probably extinguished.
They’ve been as consistent and efficient as they were last season and are going nicely in second place. In fact, they’re probably my pick for the Championship title this year.
Astute business was conducted over the summer with the marquee signing of Stewart Downing and the addition of Championship heavyweight David Nugent.
They’ve won three and lost once at home so far in the league, modafinilsmart.com conceding just 2 goals in the process. Much like last season, they’re building performances on solid foundations.
Wolves
As my aspirations are to progress at all costs, I hope Kenny Jackett picks his strongest possible team, but numbers are looking thin on the ground:

In the below video, Kenny reckons Hause, Golbourne and Martinez could all miss this one along with Dave Edwards whose a longer term absentee, so the above XI is probably unlikely.
But I think we should definitely play five across the midfield to give our back four more protection and try to get our passing game going further up the pitch.
Wallace is the natural number 10 and anchored by the reliable Price/McDonald combination would have more freedom to attack. Surely this will be Nathan Byrne’s debut too.
The gaffer
Predictions
I’d love to win, but I fear a tonking if Boro put something close to their best team out.
Hopefully we can keep it tighter at the back and nick a goal, but I think it’s more likely we’ll be exploited by an experienced and well drilled side.
3-1 Boro.
Up The Wolves!

I fear we will get a complete thrashing if they play anything like their best side. However hope springs eternal that KJ might at last find his best team.
Given those two extremes I am not about to make a prediction of the score either way.
They will be complacent.
We will play the kids.
Brompto will invade the pitch with his belly, creating much merriment and mirth, which will put them off their game, and we will sneak a hard fought 5 – 0 victory.
FOwb
We wuz shite. But Saville was our best player in my opinion.
I’ll be there shouting for the lads with my Wolves – Bray Wanderers split scarf. If you spot me, do say hi. This looks a really tough game though.
Boro 1-1 Wolves – I fear a penalty heartache.
Byrne is cup tied I see this going to extra time 1-1
I just hope we sort of hope we don’t get a whipping tonight.
Bit like my sex life – this could be all over in five minutes.
On the other hand, after one tenacious backs to the wall defensive effort last Saturday, have we got another similar performance in our locker. Unlikely I feel unless there are a few lads desperate to show KJ that they deserve a chance, and he gives them a go tonight.
Like you Thomas, I suspect that Boro from a position of strength at the end of last season, (had to replace that Chelsea loanee, was it Bamford and got Nugent – astute deal that one,) will be the team to beat this year.
It still sickens me that mad mick wouldn’t give a game to George Friend, preferring to play Steve Ward instead, now he is probably the best left back in the championship. How come Moxey let that happen if he is so finely tined to all things football.
Been a while since anybody slagged off Wardy – the worst left back ever to have played in the top 2 divisions. As for the score I`d be happy with 0-2 to wwfc, which on current form is again highly unlikely – anything less than 4-0 will be a miracle.
There’s a name from our inglorious past!!
McDickwadhead’s love child.
According to my research, he aint played for Burnley this year, which fits in well with his history, coz he never played for us, either!!!
Not optimistic, but I would expect RvLP to be involved from the start if Afobe is to be rested as has been suggested. We MUST have pace up front. Maybe Enobakhare to get a look in too – and Rowe ? I was just thinking that there is now a George Saville-sized hole in Moxey’s wallet with no obvious benefit. Whats going on there ?
Agreed wolfman. Think RVLP will be a started and he should also start with Enobakhare and stop this Ameobi nonsense. As they say if they are good enough they’re old enough
Definitely agree on the Ameobi bit, think most Wolves fans would rather see the young fellah get a go than someone who has not set the world alight with 57 league goals in 327 appearances over a 14 year span. If they do go ahead and sign him please tell me it will not be on inflated wages, when you consider what Benik did last season for MK and us the pay should not be increased for any ex prem player coming in who will be a shadow of the guy
Boro 2 – Wolves 3, that’s all folks
Well maybe a little bit more then…..if Kenny wants to fire up the guys no need for a team talk just print out the following and stick it on the dressing room wall to show them what a load of cocksure boro fans are saying
https://untypicalboro.wordpress.com/2015/09/22/dances-past-wolves/
They seem more brain dead than shit fans.
Not won up there since 1951. Sure we can reverse the trend. We’ll score in the 19th minute and go on to win 5:1. I think Clive was a little over optimistic with the clean sheet.
1951 was a good year….I was born
Cup matches are even more difficult to predict than the league games.
Could this be the match that kick-starts a revival?
Will KJ play the kids or more experienced chaps?
Will we beat the ‘Boro hoodoo?
Will we still get people moaning if we win?
All this, and more, will be answered this evening.
Stay tuned…………
Boro 2 – 3 Wolves
😛
Enobakhare to run riot. 2-1 Wolves. UTW.
Yet to see whether Enobakhare can leap, like a Barry Flanagan Hare!
Love to see it….
Will KJ try it?
He can’t be any younger than that striker for Man United can he?
Give him a go…
Hare 4 Borough 0
Another team we seem to have a constantly bad time against.2-1 to Boro.
League Cup games are made for shocks, as we can see from our own pathetic efforts over the last few years. We, like they I’m sure, have several squad players chomping at the bit for a chance to shine and hey, I got a feeling in my bones that they will tonight.
Backs to the wall defensive performance.
Magnificent Martinez,
Batth back.
Rajiv rampaging,
Bright brilliant.
Two pacey breakaway goals,
2-0 to the boys in gold.
Thankyou and goodnight.
Nightmare tie! I’ll be amazed if we get through this one. In fact I’ll be amazed if we score. 3 – 0 boro
Hmm. Depends rather on the line-ups of the respective teams. If both sides decide to field the kids, the result is a lottery. If both teams field their strongest sides, I see it about 2-0 or 3-1 to Boro as Kenny doesn’t know what his strongest side is. What if one side picks a strong team and the other side a “weak” team? Heaven knows.
I see Shola Ameobi is nibbling at the fence of the Wolverhampton Donkey Sanctuary. Previous notorious inmates/residents included Stephen Ward, Karl Henry, Roger Johnson and Leon Clarke. Maybe it’s time for poor Shola, after a lifetime of hard graft, to see out his final days grazing on the lush Molineux turf? Bless.
A good list of names there Dances……can we be so stupid as to be the Club who provides the has been with one last great payday?
Answers on a billboard, to be situated on the corner of Waterloo Road and the Ring Road (where Tarmac used to be)
I will watch the BBC updates through the night with fingers over the eyes.
And as much as I want us to win, I hope against hope we don’t give them a tanking, otherwise M & M and KJ will say ‘told you we’d get it right’ as justification for not investing
If we tank everyone, we will all be clappy happers.
Problem arises if we get tanked, regularly.
We shall see
I can only see us winning this one if Boro’s desire for the Milk Cup is way less than their desire for promotion and if our inevitable team changes work better than theirs. But something always seems to go tits up at the Riverside so I too will approach the score updates with trepidation. Time for Macca to lead the way with a restorative performance.
I know it’s kicked off and I’m 10 mins late but, I fancy this team.
2-0 Wolves
WTF do I know, what a shower of shite.
Dohhhhh
We wuz shite. But Saville was our best player tonight imo.
Missed the review but just heard that EEL ‘got his feet mixed up’ hence their goal..
If there is anyone on this blog that thinks he should be in our team you might be as nuts as KJ..
Inept half blind uncoordinated donkey ..
I said to my mate at the game that you will comment about him. It was a mistake but otherwise he did not have too bad a game. Overall, across the park we were shite, but he certainly was not the worst.
Worrying second string just as bad as the first team.
The rot is spreading through the ranks.
What’s gone wrong, hope KJ can get it right for Saturday.?
Mate of mine just gave me call from boro, he said its reminiscent of when we went down a few seasons ago.
Hope he’s wrong.
Get your head out of the sand Morgan you toss pot. The kids experiment isn’t working so invest in this club or piss off back to the Wirral.
We’ll have to buy to STAY in the championship league at this rate..
embarrassment complete tonight…
Here we have an owner who does not appear to have any serious ambition for Wolves FC. The current trend would suggest a backward step in fortunes. Once again they have the policy all wrong. Check out May 2012 and the great escape. Got it all wrong. Relegation next season. Steve Bruce. Wrong. Solbakken. Saunders.Wrong. Current thinking.Wrong. Breaks my heart. We are Wolves. We are bigger than this. Bigger than Morgan. Bigger than Moxey. Let’s start the revolution and bring about their downfall. It can be done.
Morgan out, Moxey out…………………………..
Morgan spent 18M on a new stand that increased the capacity of the ground by about 1800. He has got to show he can spend that sort of money building the team with imagination and emotion.
Its not just about making a token one off marquee signing. Kenny was the right choice to turn the team around in the third tier but i just cant see him taking us back to the premier league. A better manager should be brought in with the appropiate package and backing to attract.
Moxey – the lunatic sale of Stearman for a quick buck when the only other experienced central defender has a long term injury is typical of everything he does. He should be gone.
Morgan wont live for ever he wont be Wolves owner for ever if he wants to go out with a bang and not a whimper its time to bang.
Please excuse my very poor southern charm. What the F**k is going on.. Jeepers, we are a complete shambles both in the rear, middle and so called the offense if we can call it that. At this rate, Kenny wont make it past the end of September. I heard that big Sam might be a good pickup.. Totally depressed in Atlanta…
Can’t believe it all, that’s the last time I’m going away in the football season. Leave you lot alone for 2 weeks and you Feck it all up, come on Kenny WTF is this. I was one of your biggest fans now I fear your’e changing my mind. What a poor show that was last night.
We are now officially a laughing stock, this is pretty dire stuff boys, can’t find a positive in anyone’s report, either here on this blog, the people that went or the Wolves news now. It’s all about Boro.
StuWolf, pissed off, reporting sick from Portland Oregon.
🙁 🙁
I see that Ameobi won’t be joining us. Not that I wanted him but suspect it was down to Moxey offering ten quid a week.
My thoughts exactly.
It was obvious at the end of last seaon that we needed to strengthen, and at the same time add a bit of experience, if we were to mount a serious promotion challenge this season. We also knew we were going to lose our match winner in Sako so we needed to make sure we added some quality. We’ve brought in a few cheap, bargain basement buys to complement the ones we already have. The promising youingsters have had no leader to talk them through it when things weren’t going their way so what do we do – instead of bringing in an experienced defender we sell Stearsy. We are told it was a footballing decision but how many games have we won since he left?
It was obvious, when the transfer window closed, that we were going to struggle. We were told to wait to see where we were after 10 games but it didn’t need ten games to forecast that. It was the management playing for time again just like they do in the fans parliament. We get fed bullsh*t time after time after time. We haven’t a clue what our best team is and if I am honest, whatever conbination you put out we will struggle because we simply don’t have the class or experience. At best we will be mediocre. You have to speculate to accumulate and you can’t buy promotion on a shoestring.
Are we heading for the promised land? Don’t make me laugh, we aren’t even heading in the right direction. I am fed up writing the same old thing transfer window in, loan window out. We are going nowhere with M&M at the helm. As far as promotion is concerned, our season was over when the transfer window closed.
Shambles absolute shambles my thoughts go out to the poor sods who travelled up to see that shite Morgan and Moxey should give every one of them there money back they don’t deserve that sort of support and loyalty. Hats off to those fans…!
I was there, and I admire those who came up all the way from Wolvo for that. Fortunately for me, I only live 30 miles away from Boro so my journey home was less painful. Halfway into the second half they all stopped watching the game (was it a game?) and were just singing any old tripe and having general banter about how empty the Riverside was, and their shit support etc. Had to chuckle, as I was not smiling about the way we were playing.
Will be interesting at Preston on Saturday!
Watched a very good episode of New Tricks last night with the occasional press of the text button for the score updates, and was not really surprised by the worsening score and final result.
Its all been said before but with financial indifference of the owner, and no leadership from the top, no mission statement of where the club is going, how can the board expect anything less than this humbling defeat with more to come I`m sure. Eventually we will have a first team of 11 academy graduates, maybe plying their trade in probably the old second division, with the occasional gem sold on to save Morgan spending any cash.
Hardly going to motivate me to drive over from Nottingham to use my season ticket, or Brompton to travel from much further away. The teams who will get promoted this year will have been far more proactive in buying experienced quality players, rather than just hoping it may happen. Life isn`t like that I`m afraid, but obviously M&M don`t care or aren`t bothered at all.
