Molineux was a horrible place to be last season.

Turgid performances and rotten decisions made for a highly inhospitable atmosphere.
Things should be more harmonious this time, but the feelgood factor needs to regain momentum after a stuttering start. That means beating Gillingham.
Apparently a visit to Wolverhampton will be every League One team’s cup final, so this promises to be the first of 23 prestige occasions.
Gillingham
While we were busy racking up a second successive relegation, Gillingham were winning the League Two title.
And because we must obey the strict laws of the football cliche, I’m obliged to point out that you never want to play a newly promoted side early in the season.
Hold your horses though because the Gills have already lost their first two games of the campaign. A painful last minute home defeat to Colchester in the league, followed by a 2-0 cup loss (again at home) to Bristol City.
Martin Allen is their gaffer, of whom I know little, other than he’s managed Barnet on three separate occasions. Now that’s knowledge you can take to the bank.
On their playing staff, man-mountain Adebayo Akinfenwa will be one to watch out for. He makes George Elokobi look like Mo Camara.
Wolves
As is tradition, a spate of early season injury problems are already hampering progress. Most of the causalities, with the exception of the perpetually injured Dave Edwards, are crawling off their sick beds though. My guess is the starting XI will be something like:

We were practically anonymous as an attacking force against Morecambe, so it’s important Sigurdarson and Sako return if fit. We’re definitely short in the midfield but hopefully the home crowd will bring out the best in Davis and Evans.
Zeli Ismail showed glimpses of promise on Tuesday, so I’m keen to see him named amongst the substitutes at the very least.
I wonder if Kenny Jackett is considering a more conventional 442 formation with a striker pushed up alongside Griffiths? The Scot has been isolated so far playing up front alone and feeding off long balls. A waste.
The odds
As you’d probably expect, Wolves are favorites to win this one with odds of 4/5 on the home victory.
Gillingham are 10/3 to score a shock away win, while the draw is 13/5.
You can get odds of 4/1 on Leigh Griffiths being the first goalscorer, while our old friend Adebayo Akinfenwa is at 9/1 to open the scoring.
Predictions
Well done to Kowloon Wolf who audaciously predicted the 0-0 at Preston. It’s an opening day maximum (2 points) for the 2011/12 champion.
25 others also took a single point, predicting the draw without getting the score.
As I’m feeling jaunty ahead of our first home game, I’ll predict a comfortable win before the crippling reality sets in.
3-1.
Up The Wolves.

2-0 – finally getting a goal that spurs you onto another!
At last a goal, 1-0 to kick-start the season for the Wolves.
1 – 0. We’ll get the goal early and fend Gillingham off for the next hour.
2-1 wolves early in the season I know but we really need a result to keep the young uns morale high
With Waggy’s spirit soaring down the touch line Wolves will win 3:0, otherwise 1:2 to Gillingham and finally the penny will drop we are 3rd Division and in free-fall – not a prediction Thomas just a prayer against the falling darkness, and fading gold.
Hard to predict without knowing who’s going to be fit, and whether we’ll be fielding the Wolves Boys team, as we did in the cup, or a team more like the one you select above. Hoping for the latter, and for a result that will ignite some much needed morale and confidence in our new look team, I will go for:
Wolves 2 – 0 Gillingham
Of course, such a result will see Jez Moxey put his rubber “transfer” check book away super quick, but I don’t for a minute believe he was ever going to use it anyway 🙂
Go Wolves!
P.S. For those of you who would like to relive the spanking we gave the Gills in the days when Nathan Blake hadn’t yet subscribed to Jez Moxey’s burger coupons, look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zhWe7RWc6U
Enjoy!
Wolves 4 Gillingham 0
One can but hope….
Yes! Yes indeed! 😀
Yes Hamlet…
Prophetic or what!
“Wee, willy, Waggie,” as we used to chant…..
Well played Robin, that’ s class pal
Wolves 2 – 1 Gills
Let’s be optimistic. A 4-1 win for Wolves. Sako and Griff a brace each.
0-1 and another wretched weekend for the faithful.
I am feeling a 2-0 win myself.
2 -0 to wolves siggy both goals
1-0 to the Wolves
Come on me babies
2-0 Wolves win, hopefully.
4-2 to the mighty Wolves!
Wolves 2 gills 0, i think we’ve defended well so far and another clean sheet could be on the cards
Wolves 3-1 Gillingham
In the UK (Bristol) for a family wedding at the moment and desperately trying to find an excuse to go to the Mol instead!
the farewell to one of the best of our family should be enough for this team to get a win …. 3-o the wolves…hopefully !
1-0. But we’ll be shocking and not really deserve it.
Following a win though, I think (hope) we’ll pick up.
0-0 for the 2nd consecutive weekend.
I think we will find our teeth …… 3 v 2 U. T W
I’ll go for a score draw, don’t see one of those posted yet. wolves 1-1 gills. hope I’m wrong…
Gills have made an awful start lost at home to Colchester who then lost 5-1 to Peterborough at home in the cup.
Wolves 3 Mad dog 0 (Martin Allen’s nickname !)
Wolves 1 Gillingham 0 – Grifffiths scores after 1 minute.
0-3 Gillingham to win – Mr Porter carried out on stretcher.
As a fan, what do you think the Chelsea v Hull score’s going to be?
Only ‘avin’ a larf!
Don’t mind as long as it’s a good game.
Come on Mr Horse, No need to start again please !
Newcastle at home, eh. Damn it. Perhaps that Morecambe game was worth winning.
Too late now – rested players to win this one.
If Gills win 3-0 think Pferdepferde should be deducted half a point.
Perhaps Thomas should set up a committee to look into prediction league irregularites. My nominees would be TheDOOGooder (chairperson), goldy and the newly wed Mrs Sevlow. Might make
good television ?
On second thoughts would you trust your new wife with goldy.
Mrs Sevlow (Katherine Jenkins) is off singing so at the moment I am ‘stuck’ with Kylie.
Unfortunately she is *cough* ‘tied-up’ at the moment and after that she is digging over my vegetable garden and looking after the unicorns this weekend (whilst performing other mistress type duties).
She is then flying to the Falkland Islands to ‘entertain the troops’ (I think that’s what she said).
So I would need a bit of notice when this committee may be set up 🙂
P.S. Kathy charges a minimum of £200,000 appearance fee plus an unlimited supply of Pork Scratchings and Marmite sandwiches.
P.P.S. Kyle will do it for a crate of Fosters.
Some seem to think Pferdepferde should be sent to Auschitz for expressing an opinion contrary to their definition of ‘supporter’.
It seems kind of strange.
I won’t be looking for Wolves in the Premiership, for they are not there.
I won’t support Mourhino, (Chelsea is my local club), but maybe Di Canio or Wenger.
It is not the fans, but the clubs fault, we cannot be supported in the Premiership, or the Championship.
We can be supported wholeheartedly in Div 1 though, and I repeat 5-0 to us!
Griffiths hat trick and two for Ziggy Stardust….
That would be brilliant Robin. And ….. I hope you are right. Horse Horse is fine to have his opinion and I am an example of getting too involved, of which I apologised.
I feel it is because we feel so much for the Club that at times our comments become a tad heated.
Let’s get the ball rolling with a solid 2-0 victory and never look back.
UTW
The Wolves to settle and play some nice football without any panic. A simple 2-1 win.
After predicting a defeat last week, I’m going to be positive for my first trip to Molineux this season and go for Wolves 2-0 Gillingham.
Tricky one this. It will take a little time for the young lads to get up to speed in this division so please don’t expect miracles yet. With, hopefully, the return of Sako, Ricketts, Stearman and Siggi we should have the experience to get our first win.
It won’t be easy but I am looking for Wolves to win 2-1
Give the kids time, they will improve….
Wolves 1 – 1 Gills
UTW
I’m off to Durham to see our brave boys in white trounce some rabble from down-under, but I’ll have the radio on so I can keep up with the score.
I fancy 3-1 to the men in gold
4-0 wolves… am i mad?!
Mad? Seems not!
Going for a 1-0 Wolves win, and a hard-earned one to boot!
Wolves 0 – 1 Gillingham. Sorry!
Well, before I left work to go on holiday for a week, a colleague of mine (a Coventry Cobblers fan) said “See you when you’re 6 points better off and into the second round of the League Cup”. My response was “More like 1 point better off and out of the League Cup” so I’m going to stick to my guns on this one.
Wolves 1-2 Gillingham
Just back from Italy having seen two world class Wolves perform well at top level. Names of Woffinden and Lindgren! Sadly I fear it won’t be so good tomorrow. 1-1.
Well I’ll see some good players on my last visit to Molineux tomorrow.
Richards.
Parkin, Parkes, Mcalle,Hibbitt.
Get em 5 shirts and let em play.
Pferdepferde,
Are you really going to make that your last game? That is a shame, because we really do want as much support, cheering the team on if they try hard and commit themselves. As I said previously, in another thread, I am attempting to see as many away fixtures as I can as I hope and hope that I will not be going to those grounds again due to us being promoted!
Our youngsters are still learning their trade and I would be chuffed to bits if they develop swiftly and make us proud of them and the club. I also hope that our midfield is boosted by some quality players that is most definitely needed, in my opinion.
Whatever you choose to do, I wish you luck and hope that you do not turn your back on the Wolves!!
Wolves Fan 1969- Date
no matter how bad the wolves perform or how far we fall down the leagues matters not..a supporter WILL stay loyal whereas a gold digger will take the easy route out and I guarantee you wont truly be able to cut the old gold umbilical cord no matter who you choose to pretend to follow … see you soon !
I hope for a 442 formation. Griffiths is lost on his own up front. Bjorn won a lot of high balls against Preston and I’d be tempted to push him up front and use him as a foil for Griffiths to play off.
That would leave a gap on the right wing for Ismael who really does need some solid game time after an encouraging display against Morecambe.
Hopefully some of the signings that have been spoken about this week will come off and we’re starting to look very threadbare for quality in the squad.
Wolves 1 0 Gillingham
I think Gillingham will be a very tough prospect for us. They won’t want to lose and we seem unable to have any sort of menace going forward. Good job I’ve got my 70p off a pint voucher!
Sounds like a plan. Siggy and Griffiths up front, Sako and Ismail on the wings. A formidable force. Latest news: Mcdonald is on his way from Shef utd. I doub he’ll sign in time to reach tomorrows match. Jackett tried to sign him at Millwall, which is nice to read – as we don’t need panic buys.
We were really unlucky against Morecambe: hit the bar and the post a couple of time while they scored on their one of their few chances, on a freekick. Ismail and Forde played well and showed some great stuff, but we all saw that they don’t have the power and the experience of Siggy and Sako.
Pleased to see people getting off Pfedepferde’s back even if some of it was horsing around. We are all at the same clinic and we are all entitled to get pissed off with our team now and again. I’m always saying, “never again” but it only lasts a day or two. The last couple of seasons have been enough to test anyones patience.
Wolves 4 – Gillingham 1
Steppenwolfe,
Was that intentional? ….”horsing around” …..
Made me chuckle
Of course it was – I’m a cunning linguist. Better to chuckle than get angry.
Thanks Steppenwolf but I think this time it’s permanent.
I’m depressive by nature (bet you haven’t noticed that !) and following/supporting Wolves just makes it worse.
Every defeat, every relegation is like a kick in the guts. I mope around for days and weeks after. And the ups just aren’t worth it. The last promotion to the premiership didn’t fill me with great joy. It just meant that the inevitable relegation would follow. Sure the last days survival when Blues went down was great but you somehow knew that it wouldn’t last. And if avoiding relegation is the best joy you can hope for then is it worth it ?
Sure it is more likely that Wolves will get promotion this year than last, but even if they do will that be any real achievement ? Do I celebrate getting back to the same division as Bournemouth ?
There has to be more to it than that when you’ve got less years left to watch than you’ve already seen.
And I find watching matches where both sides play well and you don’t mind who wins are much more enjoyable.
I think I’ve past the time when the definition of a good match was Wolves won.
I hope the club recovers from where it is but it is going to take a long time and the best they could ever hope for is to be around 10th in the premiership – A Stoke like run in that division. But you are never going to see European class football at Molineux like we did in the 70’s. The downside is still bankruptcy and liquidation.
Someone on here recently suggested that I know nothing because I never mention Bully. Bully was great for us. Scored for fun. Provided great entertainment. But never got us promoted to the top level. Never played at that level although he did OK for England.
The players on show tomorrow won 2 league cups and put us in the top 6 for the league. The papers at this time of year talked about winning the league. I’m sorry but if Bully had been in that squad he would not have displaced Dougan and Richards. And we’ve never had a better winger than Wagstaffe nor a better midfield player than Hibbitt nor a better left back than Parkin.
But i’m rambling on.
Good news for Mr Porter, and all the rest who are glad to see the back of me, is that generally I am a bad luck Charm and so without me you may now have a very successful club. I hope you do and I promise not to come back. Although I call on Mr Porter to leave if success comes from a wealth foreign backer as he hates them so much.
Bye
Pferdepferde,
I’m of an age where I agree that we’ve never have better than Hibbitt, Parkin, Dougan, Richards, Waggy, Munro etc and when i attend now i look forward to the pint in the pub and the banter with the same faces I see year on year as much as the match itself.
When I ponder whether to buy my ticket i think of the first time I saw the Wolves in Jan 74 and how much i’ll miss it if I’m not there even though i know that dissappointment is generally the norm.
i also love those Champions League games with 2 good teams and not caring about who wins but in some ways I enjoy them because I know we’ll never be at that level.
Hope you’ll think about the first time you went to a game with your dad (or whoever) and hope you’ll walk into Molineux with that excitment again one day.
Regards
My dad was involved in local Football management and administration. he never had time for league football although we often had cup final tickets as a reward for the hours of time per week he used to give up – I understand why so many final tickets don’t go to the clubs supporters.
My two older brothers took me to wolves around 1967 or so. I’d still rather stand on the terrace. They were products of the late 50’s when Wolves really were champions.
Over the years they have both defected with their kids to the Villa. Don’t think either have been to Molineux for 20 years or more.
No great memories there to tempt me back !!
Pferde, its in the blood. You may try to walk away but I’ll bet Wolves will be the first result you look for each week.
We all gbet pissed off with the way our club has been run. Recently I got pissed off when they appointed TC. It wasn’t great under Staale but I could accept it was a work in progress and he did have something about him. When they sacked him and brought in Deano I could have cried. You knew that is was downhill from there and would take years to recover. Sometimes it just seems to be one cock up after another but the Wolves will endure, long after M&M have gone, they will live on and inside us the hope will still burn that one day those European glory nights will return.
UTW
I have enjoyed reading your comments Pferdepferde. What makes this blog for me is that we are all different characters with different opinions. Of course the other thing is we are all Wolves fans. Its going to be a bit like Hitchhikers without Marvin.
I know it’s cricket but try this song, seems very apt for you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2PmnTvPfn4&list=PL07D056AC88DF8B3E
come on pfertrestrerderupoete..you cant just leave-we know where you live. your opinions matter mate..even if a bit off the wall at times. I suffer with the Big d from time to time but I think its sometimes because we have deep personalities that look further than whats on the surface and that makes for a different view and different view is great ! anyway ill kidnap your hamster until you come back !!
If your ever feeling depressed come down to my place. You can walk amongst the Unicorns, Dodo’s and other magical creatures. If that is not enough to cheer you up you can always play with the wife’s ‘threepenny bits’ – guaranteed to put a smile on your face 😉
AND, In my laboratory I have frozen all the past Wolves hero’s and once I finish work on my rejuvenating potion they are getting de-frosted and sent back to the Mol. Unfortunately The Doog had a slight accident in that one of his legs fell off but I expect he will still score 30+ goals a season from his wheelchair.
Keep the faith
I don’t know what clinic you are referring to but these warts aren’t going to remove themselves…..but why they see the need to handcuff me to this lamppost is anyones guess 🙂
I don’t see this being comfortable at all. In fact, I’m going to opt for 0-0.
I think this one will be a 2-0 to the Wolves…but I have to admit to being concerned about how lightweight our midfield looks!
Wolves 1 Gillingham 2
Greetings everyone. I’m going with a 1-0 win. Sako to score a cracker.
I’m going for a 1-0 win. Sako to score a cracker…
Is that a total of 2 cracking goals for Sako then Andrew?
Steve L Biles, unfortunatley not, just the one goal will be enough I believe. Laptop software crashed as I hit the enter key. Good catch though.. LOL
I hope you informed the police as they will need to breathalize you and check to see how fast you were typing…..its going to be a nervy few days mate ! 🙂
It’ll be a draw- I say 2-2
I’d like the home campaign to kick off with a thumping great win . I reckon though that the best bit I’ll enjoy ( wirh sadness ) will be the tribute to Waggy . Hope I’m so wrong with this prediction , but ;
Wolves 1 Gills 1
I think it may take another stutter or two before the wind and confidence is in our sails
Wolves 1-1 Gillingham
I’ll go for a 1- 0 win to us!
I think the home campaign will get off to a great start. Wolves 3 Gillingham 0.
Wolves 2 – 0 Gillingham
Time for a result methinks
6 nil to the Wolves.
my kind of answer !!
Looking forward to the first home game of the season and feel really upbeat after the amazing turnout at Preston. I see us win this comfortably.
Wolves 2-0 Gillingham
1-0 to the Wolves
Wolves 3-1 Gills
Davis, Batth, Sako
It’s difficult to know who will start for Wolves tomorrow so any prediction is going to be a shot in the dark. I predicted a win last week and got it wrong so I’ll go with a 1 – 1 draw this time and hope that I’m wrong again and we get a big win.
1-1 still work to do before we can start being comfortable in games
Official website have unusually come out early in telling us about Kevin Mcdonald – personal terms are still being discussed. Looks like the hierarchy want to act quickly after the Morecombe performance. More than one neck on the block ?
Decent signing was outstanding in utd first season in league 1. Looked out of place last season when they reverted to long ball and physical tactics.
Could be the signing that griffiths needs to unlock his potential. That is if our defenders can avoid temptation to go long all the bleeding time.
I agree looks a decent signing bit surprised Sheff Utd let him go to promotion rivals.
Tbh he’s prob still one of the few players they have on championship wages its prob about the wage cap as much as anything.
If we fail to get promotion this season there will be a fire sale of talent as well.
Prediction – 2 v 1 scrappy win
Saw Akinfenwa last season-Northampton v Barnet. He’s huge ! Used as a sub,he makes a difference and regularly scores.Having said that I’m going for Wolves to win 1-0.
Any defense with Stearman in is going to ship goals (although not as many as with Big George). Gillingham to park 11 men behind the ball and nick one thanks to a Stearman howler: Wolves 0 Gillingham 1.
No more excuses, no more blathering about kids or processes or whatever else. It’s freaking Gillingham at home. We are Wolves. We need a good performance that results in 3 points. End of discussion.
2-0, Davis and Griffiths. Get it done.
yes, get it done, no more messing, let’s get serious and get straight out of this division.
Wolves 3 Gills 0
Wolves 1 Gills 1
Put me down for 2-0 Wolves Win please.
Come on me babbies
3-0 Wolves Come on me Babbies!!!!!
I think and hope we will get another clean sheet at home. So it’s an optimistic 2 – 0 for me.
I know we’d all like to think that Waggy’s spirit would inspire the team to great things,’ve but I’ve been to too many of these occasions where the opposition hasn’t read the script. I predict 0-0.
As someone who goes back beyond the 70s, I have to say that while the players from that era who’ve been mentioned were excellent, I’d plump for a half-back line of any three from Clamp, Slater, Wright & Flowers any day, and I’d never pick a forward line without the wonderful Peter Broadbent.
Hoping for another clean sheet and some goals. An optimistic 3-0 win for me.
I think this will be a 4-1 Wolves, well I’ve had a few beers….
Its unusual not to be worried about the defence, and i think griffiths will start to come good im going 2-1 wolves
1-0 down at HT, its a Wolves comeback win , 3-1. Sako & Sig then Maca seals it late on and everyone leaves happy (even pferde).
We are no longer a Premier League team. We are not even a Championship team anymore. M&M have chosen to cut their cloth to suit our demise and we now have an AVERAGE League 1 team.
Midfield is woeful. We have no creativity and Griffiths will need support up front.
Ive seen us put 6 past Gillingham twice. I also saw the 1-0 defeat which cost Dave Jones his job.
Just hope the Young Guns do Waggy justice. A proper Legend.
Here’s hoping – Wolves 2 Gillingham 0
UTW
2-0 to the young Wolf cubs.
Come on me babbies!
We’ll score but won’t win. 1-1.
Wolves 3 Gillingham 1
Griffiths to get off the mark but their big centre forward will bully us. Wolves 1 Gills 1
On holiday in sunny Salcombe so can’t be there tomorrow to take up my new seat in the North Bank as son is now too old for family enclosure. Give Waggy a good send off.
My best memory of Dave Wagstaffe was my first away game in 70/71 when Wolves won at the hawthorns 4-2. The opposition played quite well that day but Waggy ripped them to shreds down the wing time and time again. I am sure all the Wolves fans who were there that day will remember it. Clive’s tribute doesnt overstate the affection with which he was held by fans who lived through that era.
I was there that day. If memory serves, we stuffed them 5 – 3 and 4 – 2 in successive seasons, and Waggy gave the shit right back, John Kaye, twisted blood on both occasions.
Oh Happy Days!!
Wolves 5 Gillingham 1
‘Wee willy Waggy’ we used to chant….
Would that be politically correct today?
2-1 to Wolves. Prediction not based on form or intuition but sentiment; Waggy was playing the night I saw my first Wolves game and the score was 2-1, (1972 when we beat Leeds to stop them winning the title).
A scrappy game and a late goal to get us off the ground.
Wolves 1 Gills 0
Wolves 2- Gills 1
Both ours in second half.
Gillingham haven’t scored in two games so obviously i’m going for them to score first. Desperation just gets us over the line, 2-1 Wolves.
1-0 win & a team confidence boost!
Have to go 3-0 with goals Griffiths 2, and 1 for Siggy. Hope we sign the lad from Sheff. Utd. It is quite obvious to most supporters our problem are in midfield and the lack of creativity. Play Siggy up front and let Griffiths feed off him. Keep the faith.
I’m gonna go 2-0 with Griffiths getting his first goal for us. Somehow I can’t see the lad from Sheff Utd coming. His heart (or his families heart) appear not to be in the move from Yorkshire. If he is not 100% up for it then probably better if we give him a miss and move on.
2-0 wolves. Can only hope!
I can almost see the headline ‘Gills get first points on the board’, but……they’ll celebrate their ‘cup final’ by scoring one goal and for us, the shots that hit the woodwork at the seaside will just creep in and we’ll nervily edge it – 2-1 to Wolves.
Wolves 1 Gillingham 0 (Stearman)
we look strong at the back although upfront we lack any kind of killer instinct gotta go for a 1-0 win and hopefully get some needed 3 points on the board!
All week I have been planning to predict a draw, but can’t quite do it…
Wolves 2- Gills 1
Siggy to score twice, we really need to win this one, and get some much needed confidence.
Wolves2 Gills 0.
As we never make things easy I’ll predict Gillingham to score but us to get the job done. 3-1 Wolves.
Looks like we could be about to miss out on McDonald . . . . . . . now there’s a surprise.
2-1 wolves win.
This is our love – and it knows no division. Still laughing!
We are the toasters.
Best 90 minutes of football i have seen by wolves in a long long time. We should kick off at 3.10pm every home game. Its a nice feeling being able to enjoy a saturday night during the football season
Fitting that there’s a Waggie in Wolves v Gillingham but also an Ismail: great stuff from the lads, a new generation of Wolves heroes are off on that mountain road to future happiness!
‘Good news for Mr Porter, and all the rest who are glad to see the back of me, is that generally I am a bad luck Charm and so without me you may now have a very successful club.’
There you go.
Yes indeed. Enjoy yourself at Chelsea Brand Trademark Enterprises Corporation (I believe that they once were a football club?) where coming 5th in the Premier League and not competing in the Champions League would be a disaster and dropping to 3rd means buying in another batch of hundred million pound international superstars in order to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Once upon a time I remember Chelsea were just another Football League Club not an Worldwide Marketing Brand. (I remember being huddled behind the goal at the open end at Stamford Bridge with just a thin blue line of coppers separating us from ravening hoards of psychotic Chelsea hooligans).
Still if you want to follow an enterprise that will end up being called Red Bull London Golden Dragons (new name performed well in Far East according to the marketing department research) playing most of their games in Dubai, Hong Kong and Shanghai (essentially wherever the money is) it’s your choice Buddy.
So while you’re watching the multinationals marketing brand clubs and corrupt billionaires playthings nominally from London, Manchester, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan and Munich competing for the World TV Marketing Rights “Your-Corporations-Name-Here” Mega-Soccer Incorporated Hyper League on your £100-a-month Sky subscription 600″ 3D plasma screen TV…
We’ll still be competing as one club in the global brotherhood of football that encompasses all countries and all levels of the game played by real football clubs in competitive leagues everywhere from Afghanistan (Toofan Harirod FC of Kabul) to Zimbabwe (Black Mambas FC in Harare).
Or might you change your mind now we’ve won one game. After all it’s the boasting about winning in the pub that really counts, isn’t it? Not the supporting.
its only a matter of time before the bubble bursts … my son-in-law follows the hammers (stick your bubbles up your arse 🙂 ) and he said they have introduced another price for when they play top six prem. sides –almost 70 quid in restricted view seats and increasing depending where you want to sit ! ive said many times the real teams/fans are in the championship down. cant wait for the bubble to go pop and return to normal .as fans we need to recaim our beloved game from the greedy
Why oh why we don’t we introduce a wage cap to cover, eventually, all FIFA affiliated countries? That would do more to level the playing field than anything else I can think of. In the meantime I will happily settle for premiership mid table obscurity or doing a Swansea.
No I won’t be changing my mind.
I was there on the South Bank yesterday with my son. He sang and jumped up and down and throughly enjoyed himself. And I felt absolutely nothing.
After goal 1 in less than 5 minutes, he said ‘Dad it’s a sure sign that you’ve stopped supporting them.’
At Half time he said ‘Dad we’re 3-0 up’. ‘Yes son and if it was Liverpool, Man Utd, Juventus or even ADO the Hague it might be worth getting excited about but it ain’t it’s Gillingham in League one.’
They played well. Passed well. Looked like a good side and my bet on relegation may have been a bit hasty. Mind you Gillingham looked crap from the start; don’t think they had heard of closing down; Hadn’t seen a team give the opposition that much time to play the ball for a long time. But you can only beat what is in front of you and Wolves did just that.
Good Luck guys- you are better off without me.
Just a reminder for Mr Porter -I’m following Mourinho to see top level soccer matches. I’m not worried if Chelsea lose; I’m not worried if they finish 5th. And your analysis of Soccer is your own. I don’t know what you will do if a rich owner bought Wolves changed the colours and the name.
Pferdepferde if you want to support Chelsea and its going to make you happy i havent got a problem with it enjoy…….but how many more times are you going to say goodbye ?
Why are you so bitter Kevin?
You sound as if football and its supporters should have a rule of law!
Be amenable, after all you can’t agree with every other supporter of the same club, and people are allowed to support a club as they wish.
Good win on Saturday…
Pferdepferde … I would nt be too hasty about packing it in altogether, I know it was only grilling ham , but something exciting is happening at the mol . Like when saw knightly s ability , or when we saw jarvo s pace down the wing , only this time we seem to be blooding these players all over the pitch . Batth was first class , Ismail started to play with a swagger,Evans and Davies top drawer and there was a flavour of the bull abouth Griffiths . The older heads of Ricketts Doyle Sako spent the game putting the kids into space and encouraging them to play a passing game . jack price looked good when he came on , his movement was great and he wanted the ball all the time . Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face , this is what we ve been hoping for and it seems to be hitting the ground running . Well done wolves , Good work k j … Good support too , well done south bank
What? He should change his mind because we won one game?
But presumably not change his mind if we’d played like drains and lost three-nil?
Come on, his heart must have left ages ago, it’s time his carcass went with it.
You would make a good fascist Kevin.
Would I? Strange, I would have classed myself as having strong socialist tendencies.
No doubt someone will say its only one game but what is unique about us was out there today. Does my grandad (wolves mad) live on in the champions league ? He wouldnt know what it is.
THE GOLD FLAG FLYING HIGH.
Well done lads, im a toon fan but really feel for you guys, you have great support been to your ground many times over the years it’s a shame what greedy foreign investors have done to this game. the way we are going i feel we could be in your position soon, anyway chin up lads hope to see you back where you belong in a few years
A fantastic attendance of 19,102 for the first home game of the season following the defeat at Morecambe. Well done, everybody for continuing to support the club.
I’d like to propose this – on Saturday 19th October we play at Molineux against Coventry City.
But for the grace of God we could be in Coventry’s perilous state. Our two clubs have shared many great players in the past Willie Carr, Ernie Hunt, Bobby Gould, Kenny Hibbitt, Robbie Keane to name a few off the top of head – I suspect there are more.
So, instead of the moronic neanderthals on the South Bank jeering at the Skyblues fans during the game how about as true football supporters we show our filial support for a once-successful fellow Midlands club?
Moxey and Morgan are everybody’s favourite demons blamed for what has happened over the past few years at Wolves, but no one should forget that we are still solvent and we are still playing in our traditional town-centre stadium and it is still called Molineux and has been transformed into a fantastic venue. Balancing the books for a company whose income has been unexpectedly slashed, but whose wage bill remains high and that strives for success on the field can not be easy.
Time to show our support for Coventry City. Here’s to the day when our two great clubs play a local derby again in the highest league in the land.
Who remembers this Fa Cup Quarter Final http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLDNXfZ0EFE ?
I didn’t realise it was the whole of the South Bank that you hated not just me.
I notice that all the names you remember are from when Wolves were in the top level. Don’t you go when they are lower than that or don’t those players count ? AND you are still living on old memories like Cup 1’4 finals;
And why worry about what league the derby is in ? You are not supposed to care ? At the top level you’d have to play nasty brands like Chelsea and Man Utd.
No Mr Porter you stay where you are and enjoy your derbies with Walsall and Coventry in the REAL (in your terms) grass roots football from which you have no ambition to rise.
It’s the South Bank and supporters like them that Make attending Soccer matches the exciting event for people like my son. They deserve to watch better than Gillingham.
The Santa chant even made me smile.
1, I’m not a big fan of foul-mouthed yobbos who’d rather be chanting obscenties and gesturing at the opposition fans than watching the match. No foul language, thank you.
2. I attended all three Chorley games and have seen Wolves play at over 90 different venues.
3. I want us to be playing in the top league in the country, but the fact that we’re not doesn’t affect my support. I detest the fact that the Premier League is not part of the Football League, but entirely a business venture.
4. I tend to enjoy all Midland’s teams having success, even Albion. The Seventies were great because so many Midlands teams were among the best in the country. We played Juventus and Ferencvaros, Albion played Valencia and Red Star Belgrade, Villa and Forest won the European Cup – it was a competition for football clubs in those days.
5. Big crowds means good atmosphere, yes. So it was brilliant to get 19,000 at the Gillingham game.
6. I thought you’d gone. Or are you hanging about to enjoy some reflected glory when the Wolves resurgence gets underway?
7. Please name some other players that have played for both Wolves and the Skyblues by all means.
No I’m hanging around just to annoy you.
Comment from you after Morecambe : ‘pfredepferde: Cassidy, Forde, Foley and Reckord totally useless?
Don’t be ridiculous.’
Manager dropped them all. Looks like my reading wasn’t so far out after all.
Oh and you wanted Sako and Doyle moved on. Made quite a contribution yesterday.
And why just Midland teams – some kind of local nationalism ? I sure you support all England/Wales teams in Europe. And presumably you cheered Albion as they took Wolves apart with some excellent football last time at Molineux ?
And you left out Leon Clarke for a start. Probably forgotten because he didn’t play in the premiership. Might come back to bite Wolves in the bum.
Leon Clarke, good call. Fine work in Wikipedia.
Jackett dropped those players but didn’t brand them as “totally useless” like you do. Go take a running, mate. I think you’ll find they’ll feature in other games this season as injuries and suspensions kick in. We have a squad of players and while I don’t suppose anyone would pick any of them, although some might favour Foley, in our best XI they are part of our club and deserve respect.
As for Sako we might still do better by moving him on, we overrate him. If he puts in twice times the effort than he did against Gillingham for us, then he would be worth keeping, but I don’t think he will. Do you? He’ll contribute when he suits him, but when the chips are down in a tough away game? Was he a top performer at Preston? I don’t think so.
Doyle, as I wrote, I am ambivalent about – there is benefit in cutting out the old guard entirely and there is benefit too in retaining any players that display a professional attitude. And Doyle to his credit, does.
But either way we may not be able to afford to sustain Doyle’s or Sako’s wages, nor forgo the money their transfer out would garner.
As for the Midlands yes it is a kind of personal local nationalism. Bizarre and probably hypocritical but hey I’m a complicated guy.
England will never be my team (even when Bull played I hoped he scored a hat-trick but England lose 3-4) and I love it when London and Northern teams fail in Europe or in the Premier League. I much rather Fenerbahce or Wisla Krakow or whoever dump an English side out of Europe and when England loses in Internationals it’s so much fun.
Nope. I hated it when West Brom won 5-1 at Molineux, after that McCarthy had to go, although he should have been jettisoned way before that. Don’t think because I don’t swear like “Clive from Houston” that I don’t feel losses in local derbies as knives to the heart.
But I’d be doing cartwheels if the Premier League was won by Wolves and had Albion as runners up, Villa third and so on, especially if all London sides were nowhere. Particularly if we clinched the title with a last minute goal by Steve Bull in a 3-2 win at the Hawthorns after being two down at half-time.
WHY DO SO MANY ENGLISH PEOPLE DISLIKE THEIR OWN COUNTRY’S NATIONAL TEAM ?? THIS PLACE TURNS ORANGE WHEN THE DUTCHIES PLAY !! FOR ENGLAND AND ST. GEORGE !!!!! fwaw
Because the media and so many England fans use supporting the national team as an excuse for xenophobic triumphalist nationalism.
If the English ever thought of themselves as residents of just another European country rather than (the fantasy that they are) a superior race who saved the world in two World Wars and didn’t despise all things and all people French, German, Italian, Spanish and so on it would be bearable.
Put here picking up a St George flag appears to be tantamount to admitting you’re a homophobic xenophobe, a far right-wing extremist and possibly an aggressive and potentially violent thug.
Wearing orange in the Netherlands seems to signify you’re ready for a fun day out. Although even you guys really hate Germany, is that not so?
Moronic Neanderthals?
Wonderful way to describe your fellow Wolves supporters.
By your same logic we will be asked to cheer every other visiting side since every club has had its ups and downs over their history, then I suppose it will be tea and crumpets in some quaint café, while gentlemanly discussing the pros and cons of each team’s players.
Why bother playing games anyway, when all you are going to do is be nice to the opposition?
That’s where the passion comes from, Porter, or is it greasel in disguise, when we can scream and yell and vent all our frustrations at some one who is doing the same to us. Football is not like cricket or golf or other clappy clappy sports, but raw, untamed, down to earth, and in yer face.
You cant get behind your team by singing hymns and songs of peace and joy and sympathy to the other fans.
Nah, fuck ’em. If they’ve got issues then that’s their problem.
Don’t recall any love and sympathy flowing from the shit fans when they stuffed us 5 – 1, do you?
Maybe you want to go to Stamford Bridge with your mate Horseface.
As you are, as ever, slobbering about in a linguistic pigsty I suppose your view would look a bit like that.
Actually football fans are football fans whatever colour shirt they wear. Passion is a reality not affecting a foul-mouthed pseudo-macho aggressive braindead thuggery.
Our common enemy is Sky and commercialisation.
Pray tell me, what is a thuggery?
Do you actually read what you type before hitting the submit button, or are your waffling comments just words plucked from the air at random?
And the thing about a linguistic pigsty is that being a pig, I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, son of greasel, stick that in your soodough matcho pipe and stuff it wear your foul mouthed colors cant see it!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a lighter note, a bostin’ result from the Mol yesterday.
It was a good result. Wasn’t it?
At least we are in agreement over something. But, for heaven’s sake Clive, teach yourself a modicum of refinement. Honestly mate, it will come in useful if you ever have to apply for a job or talk to somebody who doesn’t know you.
Oh and personally I enjoy having conversations with opposing supporters.
You’d rather grunt and tell them to go fornicate I suppose.
This is what I mean Kevin….
U philosophise with fellow, opposition, supporters of your intellectual standing, while other ‘supporters’ of your team, such as Clive and ‘Pferde’ just grunt and fornicate.
Do you not see your own arrogance?
1. I have not claimed that pferde grunts at all, on the contraru he is very articulate.
2. I have not claimed that anybody fornicates (although I’m sure many of us do).
3. I have claimed that Clive would prefer to “grunt and tell opposing supporters to go fornicate” rather than engage in meaningful football conversation with them.
Doesn’t seem a particularly arrogant assertion to me seeing that Clive persists in using obscenities and refers to Albion fans as **** fans it would seem that he rather proves that point for me, wouldn’t you say?
And if considering the “I want to go home” chant (for example) as something that would only be sung by moronic neanderthals means that I’m arrogant, then I’m fully prepared to be called arrogant. However I’d call it having a sense of propriety.
I’m sure Clive is capable of expressing himself without profanity, he just chooses not to. If I’m being arrogant not to accept it, then I’m being arrogant.
You can be ‘pinickety’ Kevin if you like.
You didn’t actually say pferde grunts or claim anyone fornicates specifically, but the general tone of your Posts, imply that others are ‘idjiots’, and you are the bees knees.
Earlier I said you were ‘fascist’, you responded, you were ‘socialist’ as if they were totally different.
You can be a socialist and a fascist as history shows….
Enough said….
Wolves 4 Gillingham 0
That’s pernickety.
It’s unbelievable what’s happened to Coventry , I remember getting off the train and walking to ?? Was it high field road ?. Big game in those days . And scared too ! ! Tough place , it would be nice to show support but not sure how to go about it . Maybe applaud their fans at a set time during the game? Any suggestions .
In Mr Porter terms – who are the ‘Real’ coventry fans ? The ones that go to Northampton or the ones who stay away ?
What do you think? The ones that travel to Northampton, of course. Staying away is not a protest, it is a cop out.
Mind you there are many fans of both Wolves and Coventry who for personal. geographical or financial reasons can not attend games. They are fans too.
“Mind you there are many fans of both Wolves and Coventry who for personal. geographical or financial reasons can not attend games. They are fans too”.
Totally agree with that statement Kevin, but you have been a tad rough in response to other posts. I apologised when I realised that I was stepping over the line in some of my responses. If I may, I suggest you consider refraining from commenting on some posts as you are just causing more animosity toward yourself – just saying like!!
The real supporter is someone who subscribes, to the Gospel according to Saint Kevin of Porter!
Through thick and thin … Northampton away of course . Change can only come from pressure within .
Why don’t Clive and Kevin compromise , we could welcome them to the mol , clap them , buy them a pint and after the game some lads could wait for them at the station and give them a beating before they get on the special like the old days in the George
I think I should make it clear that Pferde engaged me to begin with, not the other way round.
And I do not think that I am some superior kind of Wolves supporter. There are far more dedicated and loyal supporters than me.
But after Pferde’s continuous and disgraceful slagging off the club, he should not become some sympathetic figure for jumping ship because he fancies watching top drawer football. It’s his decision, but he shouldn’t expect any kudos from contributers this blog for being a glory hunter.
And while “Clive from Houston” continues to be free with his potty-mouth however much I agree with him on any subject, he can expect my derision. I do have a zero tolerance of swearing in ordinary speech (outside of what swearing is for – those times when you hit your thumb with a hammer or when you are exceedingly upset emotionally).
West Bromwich Albion are West Bromwich Albion. And their fans are fellow Black Country folk – no matter how much the moronic minority on both sides of our local rivalry wallow in their obscenities.
I’m not bitter – I am actually very easy going.
What does pferde actually want? Only to support Wolves when they are successful?
Does he want people to applaud him or feel sympathy for him because he can’t stand any more of the bad times and wants now to follow Jose Mourinho? He’s careful I notice to pledge his allegiance to Chelsea as a football club.
Sure, I like watching top quality football (on computer streams, Murdoch is never getting a penny of my money) too. But I have no desire to support one of those superstar teams however much I like wathcing them. What would be the point? Are either Real Madrid or Manchester United really a football team at all any more? (clue: the answer is no).
Watching those 70’s YouTube clips one can see that the likes of Wagstaffe, Dougan and Richards would be hopelessly out of their depth in the game as it is played these days.
They were great. For their time. Football today is far more sophisticated.
I remember watching AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord playing in a Dutch League game in the late seventies. Even then they were playing the kind of football that is prevalent today, pass and move, pass and move.
I saw Ujpest Dozsa and Anderlecht warming-up pre-match at Elland Road with dazzling ball skills only to be totally hammered by Leeds United’s in-your-face physical bullying in the European Cup. I am really pleased that the continental style has finally shown itself to be superior to the brutal English bully beef.
I really wish we’d have backed and supported Solbakken. Although maybe his failure at Cologne was still haunting him, but one can’t help feeling that Henry, Ward, Johnson and co had decided that he was definitely going to fail and then made that happen. I suspect that a dressing-room revolt against Solbakken’s tactics is what cost us our Championship spot.
Watch 70’s English football and it’s mainly lump-it-in-the-mixer stuff. Sine at the time, but horrifically unsophisticated.
Nevertheless, I’m very impressed so far with Kenny Jackett and he wasn’t my favoured choice of manager. Many, many, many congratulations to David Davis and Lee Evans in our central midfield – you lads have taken up the challenge with superb application and effort.
Sako, pull your finger out or ship out. Kevin Doyle, superb professionalism – to come back in after being left out of the pre-season and to work so hard – kudos, I really hope we can find a way of keeping you, but good luck wherever you end up. A big, big welcome to Sam Ricketts – thank you for coming to Wolves and being our captain – I thought you were immense swapping from full-back to centre-back at Preston without putting a foot wrong.
And Up The Wolves.
What I wanted was to feel that there was some chance that my team might at some point actually be successful ie win something substantial.
They won’t win the premiership ever again unless someone with a big cheque book arrives which you would hate anyway or it gets devalued by some European league taking the top 6 sides out of the equation.
Yet every year the cups come round (esp the league cup) and wolves treat it with Contempt. It doesn’t matter; it’s only a mickey mouse cup etc. Teams from outside the top 6 (Like Swansea or Wigan or Blues.) have always done well in this cup because the big clubs don’t care. This gives Wolves a great opportunity to win something – at least get a trip to Wembley for a proper cup final. Maybe even get a couple of European games. That’s what I wanted. That’s why the Morecambe result mattered to me. That’s why fielding such a weakened team as some kind of experiment was so insulting. That’s why it was the final straw.
I’m not interested in sympathy; I’m just sharing my feelings with the other bloggers to do with as they wish.
And I haven’t changed to Chelsea or anyone else because you can only have one club in a lifetime and Wolves was mine. But I can’t let it inflict the pain and depression that failure brings when there is no hope of the fleeting feeling of success that John Richards provided when he scored at Wembley for my team in 1974.
Maybe to you Kevin it doesn’t really matter whether we win, lose or draw – theres always next week. But to me it does….it really matters… it really affects my whole mood, my whole persona for days. Maybe far from not caring enough, I just care too damn much and it can’t go on. It has to stop and it has to stop right now.
petrghesdfcgbnnnmjkkdpete mate I must be a crap supporter then cos even though I KNOW we will win nothing in my lifetime or get anywhere near the top half of the prem for many years I do enjoy following wolves …what; would you say the same to many of the teams in div 3 or 4 ? they love their teams and know that unless a billionaire buys their club they can at best just hope to get a promotion or two..its so much more than being the best mate..arsenal fans are always griping and moaning and look where they are ! the man cite fans crying last season cos they lost a bloody game ! when football is EVERYTHING and takes too big a part of your life it borders on obsessive .. when were gone hopefully there will still be a wolves and fans will probably still be obsessing but not me – I love my club but treat it as what it is and always has been – a game and a very enjoyable one. get it in perspective and get behind your club 🙂
Lads lads lads!
I’ve only been away a couple of days and you’re all bickering again.

Withnail: I’ve some extremely distressing news.
Marwood: I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to hear anything. Oh God, it’s a nightmare, I tell you, it’s a nightmare.
Withnail: We just ran out of wine. What are we gonna do about it?
Marwood: I don’t know, I don’t know. Oh God, I don’t feel good. My thumbs have gone weird! I’m in the middle of a bloody overdose! Oh God. My heart’s beating like a fucked clock! I feel dreadful, I feel really dreadful!
Withnail: So do I, so does everybody. Look at my tongue, it’s wearing a yellow sock. Sit down for Christ’s sake, what’s the matter with you? Eat some sugar.
We want the finest wines available to humanity.
And we want them here, and we want them now!
Any fans not going to Ashton Gate next Saturday could do worse than coming along to Castlecroft Stadium to support AFC Wulfrunians against Earlswood Town in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup, kicking off at 3:00 pm.
Give local football your support. It’s £5 on the door and £3 concessions.
Follow the FA Cup all the way from August 2103 through to May 2014.
I shall be there, so you can personally punch me in the face for being a pretentious, arrogant twat. Whoops, now I’m swearing.
You have proved over and over what an arrogant twat you are, and I will draw the line on any more pointless banter with a closed mind such as you have, lest I be summoned to Headmaster Thomas’s study, again, for six of the best.
Goodnight and have a nice life.
Where is Thomo has he been nicked ?
Probably still in therapy after the shock of seeing 4 goals without reply and a second clean sheet in succession!
Wolves 0 – 1 Gillingham. Don’t think our first goal this season is coming today. Sorry
