Recent memories of matches against Charlton are all positive. The last time we were competing at the same level, Wolves did the double over the Addicks on their way towards the Championship title.

The season prior we also scored a memorable 3-2 victory at the Valley courtesy of a last minute winner and of course that goal from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Casting my mind back further I also associate them with a Glen Crowe wonder strike in about 1996 and one of the most comical own goals Molineux has ever witnessed a year or so earlier. Anyone else remember either of those?
Anyway, enough of that.
These days Chris Powell is their manager and he of course brought them up from League One as champions last season.
On the basis of their 18th place position it appears to have been a bit of a struggle for them so far, but a deeper dig reveals they’ve had injuries to contend with.
With players like Ricardo Fuller, Bradley Wright-Philips and Rob Hulse knocking around, they should have the necessary firepower to stay up at the very least, which I suppose would be acceptable in their first season back.
Admittedly, I know very little about many of the other players in their squad, so Saturday promises to be interesting.
With 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats away from home this season, they’ll be reasonably pleased with their form on the road. 3 defeats at the Valley already accounts for them being closer to the bottom than the top.
Wolves
There’s no disguising just how disappointing the second half against Bolton was. We’d set ourselves up beautifully with an attacking flourish before the interval, but just when you were hoping the boys would exert some authority as the home side, they wilted.

I’d like to suggest a couple of changes from Tuesday, but I just don’t think we have the options.
The one player I would bring in from the start is Sigurdarson. You might argue he’s done little thus far, but at some point we have to give him a run out from the start at home, so we can really get an idea of what he’s about.
I’ve felt a bit sorry for him, thrown on for the last 25 minutes of games we’ve mainly been defending in. The team has sat so deep and he’s just been expected to chase lost causes. Not an ideal situation to come into as a young striker.
Ebanks-Blake was very poor against Bolton and with Doyle returning to goalscoring form, this could be a good opportunity to test another partnership.
Opposition view
Here’s what Charlton manager Chris Powell had to say ahead of the game:
“They’re in the place they would want to be, especially with having a new manager,” he said.
“But like most clubs they are under pressure to get straight back up, especially with the money they’ve received for Fletcher and Jarvis.
“He has spent a bit of money on players, so the pressure will be on them.
“They will be looked upon as one of the favourites to go up, so we go there under no illusions.
“We played against Blackburn at home, another side who came down, and should have beaten them.
“We know we are a match for these teams on any given day.
“It is up to us to go there and perform in a good arena, a vociferous crowd as they always are, and a team that drew the other day.
“They lost against Huddersfield in the previous game, so they will be looking to get a positive result, but I will be looking for us to go there and carry on our good away form.”
Predictions
Only 6 people predicted a draw against Bolton.
2 of those wise men, Ben and I unbelievably, got the 2-2 scoreline in addition, so it’s double bubble for us. Hats off to my esteemed colleague for also predicting a Doyle brace (that would have been a nice little earner). But as we know, zero extra points on offer for showing off.
I said prior to Tuesday that I was hoping for 4 points from these two home games and I’m sticking with that.
I’ll back us to come home with a bit of style on Saturday – 3-1.
Up The Wolves.

First of all – Powell so quick to forget Bolton?
Second – 3-1 win!
Nice pre-match blog as usual. I whole hartedly agree on the suggestion of giving Sigurdarson a start.
I had been thinking this for several weeks, but instead of Doyle (due to his goal drought) rather than SEB.
Now Doyler seems to have found his long lost scoring ways, I truly believe he and Sig could be a great partnership up top, especially with Sako and Pennant supporting from either flank.
SIgurdarson seems to like to run at players and on goal, and I think that front quartet could be lethal.
I’m going 4-0 Wolves if Siggy starts……2-0 if he doesn’t.
If that’s not allowed then my final say is 3-0.
2-0 wolves – normal service resumed
I will go along with that 2-0 to the Wolves, also agree with giving Sigurdarson a run out from the start, at very least it will give Ebanks a kick up the arse.
Come on me babies
I’m Going For Wolves 3-1 Charlton as well.
That’s if we get a full 90 minutes from them all.
Am I the only one who thinks we should stick with a 5 man midfield giving Sako a free role..?
Definitely not, I think it would be great playing him just behind Doyle but with license to roam, and Pennant and Peszko (when fit) bombing on down the flanks. At the very worst he couldn’t be less effective than SEB was against Bolton!
Been harpin on bout it since we signed him
Good blog. Nice to see the opposition manager mentioning the sale of Fletcher and Jarvis. That hopefully saves SS the bother 😉
I would like to think that if/when we get an early lead, we push on and make it safe.
Wolves 3 – Charlton 0
2-0 win. Siggy double after he’s given the nod to start.
Wolves 2-1 Charlton. This is the kind of game we have to win, really.
3-1 wolves…. Where’s me scarf?
No – I wears yer scarf!!
Wolves 2 Charlton 0
I refuse to predict anything other than a victory
Wolves 5 – 0 Chorlton and the Wheelies – “Hello little old lady!”
We cannot accept anything other than a win from this one, and convincingly.
Wolves 3-0 Chalton
As it has already been mentioned – 4 points from these two consecutive home games is OK.
2-0 Wolves then.
Would like if Siggy started up front, always fancied him. Good if wolves can win so 2-1 to Wolves. UTW!!
Swit Swoo – You need to be up front with him, you never know, he might fancy you too 🙂
Maybe, who knows… 😛
Not a fan of the clumsy Icelander from what i’ve seen so far, the ball comes to him & is gone in a flash usually back to the opposition. A poor miss & showing on Tuesday night. Maybe he can prove the doubters wrong by being on from the start.
It would be better if we could play Jake Cassidy up front with Doyle, when can we get him back? Does anyone know?
couldnt agree more, what about Leigh Griffiths?? he’s banging em in up north …
Looking at the table, it seems Charlton are a better away team than a home one, and score more goals too.
The last 2 home games we have spent long periods chasing the ball, not much different from in the prem really. If we’re not more competitive in midfield and we give the ball away cheaply again, i can see more of the same.
I keep predicting wins we don’t get so i’ll reverse the tactic and go for a defeat in the hope the team get the points and not me. 1-2 Charlton.
Well, as per my post before the Bolton game, I will go for:
Wolves 2-0 Charlton
Burnley 2-1 Wolves
If my Las Vegas hotel has wi-fi, I may well be posting from America. If not, see you all after the Burnley game.
UTW
hoping for a siggy start and a much more energised performance and a HOME WIN….1-0 will do….as long as we WIN!
Wolves 3-1 Charlton
We showed first half on Tuesday what we can do to one of the top teams in this division, I reckon that we’ll go into this one with a lot more confidence having watched that video back (hopefully they didn’t watch the 2nd half again – it would have been like watching a repeat for the umpteenth time).
3-0 Wolves. Doyle to score again, big Roger to net as well.
Im still not convinced about siggy, but we are light on forwards, so why not. Still, think we’re a bit shakey so 1-1 Sako
Clap clap ! What’s the crystal ball say for Burnley then…
Missed predicting for the Bolton match but wouldn’t have gone for a draw anyway. was glued to the BBC vidypritter at work, gutted.
Hoping we get a win so Leicester and Cardiff don’t start to get a bit of a breakaway.
Wolves 2 Charlton 0
We generally do well against Charlton, have only lost twice at home in my lifetime.
Think we will bounce back with a convincing win. Wolves 3 Charlton 0
UTW
I’ll put my (the) scarf on a good reaction to Tuesdays 2nd half. Like
The idea of Popey and Ziggy partnership …so ,
Wolves 3 Charlton 0 .
I remember the own goal mentioned vividly. It was surely an own goal Phil Chapple never would repeat in a mlllion years. I’m certain Lee Mills would have liked to claim it but it came off the post and hit Chapple before the ball ended up in the net. Bully got the second from a corner in the 2-0 win. Charlton missed a pen as well. Let’s hope for a repeat on Satyrday. UTW.
Glad someone else remembers it! 🙂
Actually found it on YouTube if anyone’s interested:
In this division due to promotion, while we are there following relegation of course. Difficult one to call, but we have to look to win our home games, it will be a long train journey back to Nottingham if we don`t get 3 points.
So 3-1 to the Wolves, ever the optimist moi. Now about that scarf thing…….
As always, hoping, praying and sacrificing a cat for a win, but I think we are gonna get beaten.
Ward is sure to “play” and therin lies the rub.
He will, as usual, be mightliy exposed for his lack of pace, positional sense and brain, and they will have a field day.
Wolves 0 Charlton 3
As ever, a happy FOwb to you all.
Your birthday’s obviously going well you miserable bugger!
Let’s have some respect on this site, its Mr. miserable bugger!
Back on track with a 3 – 0 win.
I expect us to win this reasonably comfortably. So that’s probably the kiss of death then! Lol! We’ve had a little bit of a wobble…I’m sure there will be a few more to come this season but I see nothing to panic about.
Wolves 2 – 0 Charlton.
UTW!
Got to give Siggy a chance. Like what I’ve seen so far. Two good feet, clever runs, turn of pace and a great finish against Peterborough. Think we’ll see a more potent Doyle playing next to him too.
Must be a win, SS will have sorted out the pack.
Wolves 2 Charlton 0
I refuse to countenance anything less than a convincing win as Mrs DOOGooder will be accompanying me to the ground for her first taste of live Wolves. Plus, we’re booked in at some swanky hotel and she’s promised to not have one of her headaches if we get a result.
3-0 to the lads.
The gloom may be back on this blog should we fail to win this one. Three games in a row without a win would certainly be unsatisfactory but Ståle knows this. He will put out a team that will win 1-0.
Wolves 1 Charlton 0
Just bought my ticket, which invariably means we won’t win…
1-1 draw
On a completely unrelated note, I am sure y’all will be pleased to know that the heat and humidity has gone from Houston, at least for the time being, and yesterday’s 88 degrees has given way to 58 degrees and a light wind.
I might have to dust off and clear away the moths from my jeans and long sleeved shirts soon, so boring having to wear T shirts and shorts all the time!!!
You’ll be needing a scarf then!
I remain a pessimist when Ebanks-Blake is in front of goal, so I wholeheartedly back your single change of striker. I cannot remember a single game when I have been impressed with the SE & KD partnership. I feel pretty confident of a good result either way, which is often a bad omen, but I will go along with another 3-1 to us.
A win surely, but wondering if we’re getting the Molineux jitters. It also seems strange to me that in years gone by we have been regarded as one of the fittest teams around (based apparantly on the methods of he who knows alot about the lack of it, one Tony Daley!) This season we lookso jaded in the last 20 minutes (last 49 against Bolton). I just wonder why this is?
Anyway, 2 – 1 Wolves.
Just found BEIN sports on my dish network sports package. To all ex pats in the USA they are carrying the championship games. Bought the rights….. No more streaming hopefully. Check out your cable provider and see do they have it!
Should really win this one i will say 3-1.
I sense the ‘honeymoon period’ is coming to a close but when STS and his staff have really settled in still think they will be a force.
Wolves 2-1 Charlton one time Wolves target Ricardo Fuller to score, but Wolves to run out winners.
Wolves 2 – Charlton 1
Wolves 2 charlton 0
I’m just picking a 2-0 home win with no reasoning behind it!
Defence not good enough
2-0 Charlton win.
3-2 Wolves
Waiting for that offensive outburst for a whole game instead of just one half.
gonna have to wait a little longer ….
Sooner or later we’re going to hit some team hard. I’m going for 3-0 to Wolves.
This is a match we must win and we will do so. I would like to think that one of these days we will send out a positive and unequivocal statement to all of our opponents by thrashing someone for the whole 90 mins. Whether that will be on Sat is anyones guess but we can live in hope. Technically this could be that type of match so I’m going for 4-1 with a brace for Doyle and one each for Ziggy and Sako. On the other hand it might be a dour dog fight in which honours are eventually shared 1-1. No, I’m sticking with my first thought, biff, bang, wallop 4-1 bye, bye CA.
Ståle’s sorted out the problem and CA will suffer. As ever UTW !!!!
I think I will be going for a 3-1 win, for Wolves obviously…and all will be well again.
UTW!!
Im going 2-0 to wolves
I have to get one right sometime so once again I’ll go for a wolves win and a clean sheet 2-0
I think it’s time to give siggy a start maybe play him a bit wider and give sako more freedom
90th minute goals stick in my craw, 90th minute against Bolton, my expletives were on repeat. Just calmed down but not enough for blue sky thinking. Anyone expecting Charlton to roll over will be sorely disappointed. Wolves 0 – Charlton 2. November will be a good month though.
1-2.
Think we’re on the way down after hitting the dizzy heights of 3rd.
2 – 0 to Wolves
Wolves 3-0 Charlton (Doyle hat-trick! Yeah right!)
2-1 again, sooner or later.
Back to winning ways – 3-0. Come on!
2-1 Charlton unfortunately.
Come on the Wolves 2-0 win.
i’ve been saying siggy aint good enough for this league and getting hammered for it … todays game yet again proves me right. farm him out and lets get someone in who’s up to it. Season is starting to ebb away from Stale…
What a shocking 2nd half again!
What happens in that dressing room at half time, because its never the same as the first half,so whats the #### going on,for it to happen twice on the trot somethings got to be wrong.
charlton in the first never had a kick but saying that with all the possession we had we should have made better of it.
Pissed off again stale you must get it sorted or else we are gonna be also rans.
The game is over 90 minutes not 45.so get it sorted.
