Wolves are the Championship’s form team.

It’s four wins in a row, five wins in six and just two goals conceded in this tidy little run that’s seen us climb back to within a point of the play-off places.
It was a slog against Blackpool, but the team stuck to their principles and eventually picked them apart.
This game could follow a similar pattern, but you couldn’t ask for a better fixture to make it five consecutive league victories.
Charlton
While Wolves have been putting their season back together, Charlton have been falling apart.
During the same six game period, they’re the Championship’s whooping boys, having lost four and drawn two. That includes three defeats in a row coming into this fixture culminating in a 5-0 hiding at Watford last weekend.
Bob Peeters has been given the flick, replaced by another household name in Guy Luzon. Is another untested foreign manager really what the Addicks need to steady the ship? I’m not so sure.
Too many draws has been the problem – 13 so far, which is the most in the league. They’ve only lost seven matches, which is actually one less than Brentford and Watford, who occupy play-off positions.
Top scorer Igor Vetokele caused us headaches at the Valley and he’ll be one to watch if included at the weekend.
Wolves
Aside from Bakary Sako’s continued absence all is looking rosy in the garden for Kenny Jackett with Scott Golbourne now back in contention.

It’ll be tough for our diminutive full-back to get into the side though with the defence performing so admirably. I can’t see the gaffer changing it.
He may however consider giving Benik Afobe a full debut, potentially pushing the big striker up alongside Dicko or playing him just behind.
Whichever configuration he chooses, I feel reasonably confident we’ll have enough to win, which is testament to the squad Jackett has built.
The gaffer
Predictions
Logic dictates Wolves should win this game, so hopefully the figures are proven correct and it’s another home victory.
It would be nice to rattle in a few goals, but Charlton’s high volume of drawn matches suggests they’re no pushovers.
Expecting something similar to Blackpool, with an equally familiar result.
2-0
Up The Wolves!

Finally getting to a game this season. Can’t wait to see our young flying full-backs.
I think this should be an easy win for us and hope we start with 2 strikers. Law of averages says we must concede one sometime.
Nice to see some new names at the top of the blog.
This old one is going for a convincing win.
Hopefully we don’t leave it quite so late this week.
Two strikers on and a feast of goals with the new guy getting a brace
I’ve got a funny feeling that this could be the game where we win by a more comfortable margin than the norm. I think tiredness played a part against Blackpool . I’d expect that Henry will be dropped for Afobe with edwards pushed out wider as Henry was pretty anonymous last week.
The team picks itself lately and I think Afobe will be starting as a sub.
It’s hard not see anything other than a Addicks bashing but .. no Sako for me means a tight game .. but coming through it with a victory.
A BIG thanks to the Boggie fans for vetoing the generous tribute banner to Sir Jack.. their turn will come!
Agreed Twix, I think they’ll do what Blackpool did and park the bus.
Afobe looked very promising on debut and I expect him to come on second half and be the difference running at their tiring defence.
Hope I’m right.
COYW!!
Can’t see anything but a home win,(hope that’s not tempting fate). Charlton are in freefall with their off field problems. Could be 6 or 7 if we click!
Another win….
Only a question of time, before I’m as wrong on the winning front, as I am on the margins!
Same as last week would be good
UTW
I don’t think there is much you can say about this game. It should be a comfortable day at the office with a respectable victory, but I still can’t see a hat-full of goals. I can’t help but agree with Thomas’s team selection with Afobe coming off the bench to grab another goal.
Going for more of the same please, keep chipping away with the team until Kenny gets his optimum side.
Posted 3-0 to Wolves but expecting and praying for a rout.
Who do we drop for Afobe, who will give way for Golbourne and where’s Kenny’s new guy going to fit in when he finds him.
What a Super healthy dilemma to be in. Bring it on with these teams in the bottom half of the league and aim for the bid re-matches. Derby, Bournemouth,Dipshit and Huddersfield.
I for one cannot wait.
🙂
Obviously I want wolves to win and win we should , Although , I can’t help feel sorry for charlton . I know a couple of their fans . I such a fine old club , nice ground , good support and it took them so long to get back in the championship . Now it looks like they could be heading back to league 1 . Hope they turn things around starting next week !
Breakthrough result last week. Those players know they are at a big club now!
Hard to know what sort of effect their new manager will have.
Who is he? What has he done? Will he inspire them or will he make things worse?
I’ve no idea, but I think we’ll win whatever.
We will not lose until early March.
It all comes together for the team and the fans………….
Was at the Valley earlier this season – a game we should have won. The home side looked useful but not as good as we were on the day. I expect they will do the same as last week`s opposition and park the bus and hope for a breakaway goal. Nothing new there, so a routine 2-0 win will do for me, although I won`t be upset if we give their new manager a warm welcome to the Championship by way of a good old thrashing.
Can’t see Henry holding his place. This our very new debutant scoring striker will get a full run out.
3 more points. When can we start to dream?
We’re fans – we start to dream as soon as we come off our mother’s milk.
We want reality now!
How right you are, as ever
Derby, Bournemouth and Ipswich have all lost this week and have now played a game more.
A win on Sat. will put us within 5pts which easily accessible. Now very congested in the dog-fight for promotion with perm any 6 from 8 for the play-offs/outright promotion. Keep this run going and we have every chance – whether we are anywhere near strong enough for the Premiership is however an entirely different story.
We don’t need to be strong enough now, only when(if) we get there. Very few promoted teams are strong enough before their dealings in the summer window.
Wolves seem to settle down when 2-0 is on the scoreboard. So I’ll go for that score.
Solid Wolves win, but no idea on score, my son says 2-0 and he’s normally right!!!!
Some real progress at the moment and I can see it continuing. Starting to feel a lot like last year, in form at the right time while some of the leaders look to be heading towards a bad patch. Really positive and confident at the moment. Play offs as a minimum.
We all have as high a hope as KJ re Afobe and as Dicko is our current striker saviour it would surely be logical to create a partnership from the off and therefore start with both for me.
KJ said we need to adapt our play so I trust that is a clue to the above..I personally would be disappointed if Afobe does not exceed expectations after all we have waited long enough ..
with Sako coming back (he’d better) then what a prospect as a strike force..
With Edwards playing well then it’s henry or price on the bench IMO and with the back playing well we should win this easily ..
I wish K Mac would not be so contrary with form but he has shown glimpses of class for a few games recently too..
3 points then towards the master plan.
COYW
I get the feeling Kenny won’t settle for the play offs, i know he said “we want one of the three promotion places”, but seeing the man and listening to his words i see he is no fool and when he makes a mistake he learns from it. He won’t be happy with second place either, only the title will do for him and he’ll pull up trees to do it. Wolves win i think.
The very first Prem match I saw, back in 2003, was Wolves v Charlton, and we got smacked 0 – 4.
Following our opening 1 – 5 thrashing at Blackburn, I was not a happy bunny.
The old saying paybacks are a bitch will ring true on Saturday, and we will stuff ’em by the same score they stuffed us, only different!
5 – 1 is deffo on the cards this weekend, its about time all you Wonderful Wolves players who silently read this blog got your shit together, and get me the score for which I and all the others know you are capable of!!
And, to quote Ed Harris ( name the movie ) “Failure is not an option.”
First place in May, or nothing.
To throw my two penneth in the ring, I cannot see Edwards remaining injury free for the rest of the season, based on his track record, so its good we have competition for places.
FOwb
Been a while since I predicted, no chance at the gnome, but why not, Go Wolves!
Head says 2-0
Heart says follow Clive from Houston.
…..and the movie was Apollo 13
Great to see the results coming.
Get promotion first. Invest the money in the team in the right areas. Stay strong and keep the faith.
The Smethwick Wolves, now in Oz.
Can’t be there this weekend and after missing the match and tribute to Sir Jack Hatwood due to a boy racer smashing into the back of my car in Cannock.I hope that we play well and score some good goals COYW
one of these days we will pulverize someone but until Sako is back and the new wunderkind is settled in I think we will continue to scrape by ….but 3 points it will be…just.
One look at the goal difference column shows that we aren’t prone to stuffing teams by 3 or 4 goals and despite the addition of Benik, I’ll take some convincing that this will change come Saturday. Charlton’s new boss, whoever he is, will, first and foremost, want to stem the goals against and his players will be desperate to impress the new boss.
Therefore, I expect a dour battle and a narrow win, unless we get an early goal, which could change everything.
The last team to come to the Mol after a thrashing also had a new manager and parked the bus for a 0-0 draw. Hopefully that will not happen this week.
We should have more than enough to win this even without Sako. Hoping for a goal fest but will settle for a win by any score.
I predicted 4-0 against Blackpool. If Charlton play the same way I think we’ll be lucky to win 2-0. However I think we’re really gelling as a squad and I expect a breakout game soon, hopefully this one! Afobe to play at least 45 minutes and to get on the score sheet. Sako will be encouraged by this new signing and may well stay-put this month to see what happens at Wolves by season’s end.
Hope I m wrong on this one.
But some weeks ago Charlton have ball possession against Ipswich, and more shots on target,
but still lost 3-0. So they have potesial. And now new manager.
UTW
Just booked tickets for me and the lads and really looking forward to this one.
On our current winning form and on the back of last weekend, I think it will be all guns blazing tomorrow.
hoping for, and somewhat expecting a few goals from our recently returned and strengthened forward options. This, coupled with continued strength and resilience at the back should see us easily through.
Come on Me Babbies!!!
I am in Scotland this weekend, so unable to be at the match. Not that that will have any effect on the result. We will be too strong tomorrow, and I see us keeping another clean sheet and putting a few more than normal in the back of our opponents net. Therefore my prediction is:
Brompto……….
I’m in Scotland next weekend.
If you come back before me, stand a brick on the wall.
If I get there before you, I’ll knock it off.
🙂
You can’t be in Scotland next weekend. I am meeting you at the Reebok/Macron Stadium as you have my ticket.
Sunday after the game.
🙂
Im going for a 2.0 win and like the Blackpool game the goals to come late in the second half as Thomas pointed out charlton will be no push over, but i think we will break them down eventually.
We are looking tight at the back and with Afobe, capable of scoring a few.
There is no way that Afobe should be on the bench ! This team struggled against bottom placed Blackpool for an hour on Saturday until his introduction. Score prediction is on the assumption that he starts
A very early goal for us followed by the bus being parked by them will not stop us from a very good show and 3 points.
Just a quick note on the Barry Glendenning “Sir Jack was an appalling old racist bigot” rant on the Guardian website.
This is just the sort of thing that makes my blood boil.
Why is it when we, in this country, bend over backwards to accommodate all the cultures, beliefs and traditions of all those people that choose to live here, whenever someone shows any sort of patriotism or pride in Britain and OUR traditions they are labelled as racist bigots?
Ask the guys from Punjabi Wolves who so proudly held the ‘Union Jack’ banner at the Molineux last weekend if he was racist.
If I had a subscription to the Guardian it would be ripped up now.
But I don’t because it is a lily livered apology for a newspaper (allegedly) and I wouldn’t use it to light my fire.
Re the ‘racist’ comment I noticed someone posted a reference to the Punjabi Wolves tribute on the Grauniad’s web-site but it was moderated (i.e. removed). It appears that this is a newspaper which not only does not understand irony but employs as a sub-editor (Glendenning) a professional journalist who doesn’t know the difference between jingoism, xenophobia and racism. Appalling.
Totally agree, Mr Glendenning’ s journalism lacked decency and respect, his apology was hardly heartfelt either. What a tosser, lets face it even the WBA fans showed more respect.
Sod him and the Guardian. We should all urge all Wolves fans to boycott this rag.
Doogooder.
We went to the same school buddy. 100% back you on this one.
I think you were very reserved and overly polite towards the guardian so I will say it as it is for you…
I wouldn’t wipe my Arse nal with it.
-:)
Stop pussyfooting around, guys, say what you really think.
He needs to go fuck himself with the rough end of a pineapple.
He’s gay isn’t he?
Glendenning that is…
The Guardian is as honest as the Labour Party it represents.
Can anyone tell me how socialism can support a property based economy?
Please no replies….
‘Football is the opium of the people.’
Wolves 4 Charlton 0…..
Robin,
You need to put your prediction in the place below your email address, I believe.
I’ve already done all that Brompton in another post!
Same score…..
Before the glendenning rubbish I always thought anyone who read or worked on guardian was a complete w@:)er. His pronouncements just confirmed it. Comparing the lifetime achievements of glendenning and sir jack is like comparing a dinghy with the titanic and a shit dinghy at that 🙂
Think it will be tight again but we’ll have enough in the tank to seize the day.
Can’t see a goal fest but a win all the same. It won’t be easy as chartlton could be out to impress their new manager. We’d have beaten Blackpool by more if sako had played. He’s the catalyst in almost all our attacking play looking forward to having him back
I fell I have to be the voice of caution, every time I login here to read the preview and the vast majority predict an easy game a wolves victory and a hatful of goals my heart sinks. Every time thats happened we either lose or draw, and we all feel deflated.
You’re all getting carried away, we have won a few games recently, but would you all honestly say we are tearing teams to pieces and running them into the ground. Blackpool a team who hardly recognise each other held us out of 86 mins on a day that we again flattered to deceive.
Defensively I think things are now solid, we have guys that can score, but how often do we stretch teams and then fail on the final pass, too often crosses don’t reach the box. We need more quality.
The few times we have played against the better teams in the top 3 or 4 in the league we were easily beaten, Derby and Bournemouth destroyed us.
We’re a top half team, I for sure expect a play off place, but I don’t believe we have the quality delivering week in week out to be automatically promoted. We need more creativity, yes Sako will help, but he blows hot and cold too.
We could be promoted, if we hit a good streak in the play off process, but the season that follows would be hard. We need to keep adding quality, but we still need the odd player with experience and nous to get us over the line. Don’t see us in for those, they cost too much and their wages are too high, but we need them as much as the likes of Afobe.
Saturday I can see frustration on the pitch leading to tension in the stands and us all assuming too much. Lets support our wonderful team, be grateful we finally have a manager with vision and see where we go, lets enjoy the ride because we are going places if not this year then next because our youngsters are getting experience and knowledge, they’re our future and it does look bright, but we need patience.
Amber W01f
Don’t know if you watched Notting Hill or not.
But……..
Nice try but your’e not getting the last Brownie.
Poor attempt to put a damper on things,
I always aim for the Moon, that way if I miss then at least I will be up amongst the Stars.
Works for me.
🙂
The full line is
“Nice try, gorgeous, but you’re not getting the last brownie”
I prefer the line, ” You daft prick”
AmberWolf agree completely.
At the end of the season anything above mid table will be a bonus.
Don’t trust M & M enough personally…
What’s Notting Hill got to do with it StuWolf ?????
It’s just a rewrite of the Princess and the Pauper…
You put forward a lot of the observations I’ve made on this blog but I do now detect a slight sea change in the resilience of wolves. Play offs would still be a significant achievement but barring injuries and last minute moxey sales of key players I think we are now in better shape than we have been all season.
Tight game again. More teams will park the bus like Blackpool did. Still a win though.
I see that we and Charlton are at opposite ends of the form (last 6) table, so it would be naive to expect them to come out looking to take the game to us. Another afternoon when patience will be required and hopefully rewarded.
Onwards and upwards. Hopefully we can keep our form going and Dangerous Dave is once again on the prowl!
I’ve been guilty of saying this before (Blues and another, I forget) but, surely there’s only one feasible outcome tomorrow? The lads need a few goals but their big man up front may give us a scare, so going for 3-1.
Team looks like the one that will start. Afobe to come off the bench, what I like about Afobe is that he is two-footed, now that is a bonus.
I expect another win. This time more comfortable with us being 2-0 up at half time.
Onwards & Upwards
🙂
No disrespect to Charlton here but 3 goals & a clean sheet will put us back into a positive goal difference. That will do nicely ta.
UTW
Amber for a girl (?)you write well about football even philosophically ..
Perhaps it’s good that you keep our feet on the ground…
1-0 then
I’m sick and tired of being wrong on this prediction league. I’m going to stick with a 2-0 wolves win till the end of the season. That’ll do nicely.
Clive F H has done 5-1 every game and he’s got more points than me !!
Stick with it …
Can’t really see any other result for this one, more of the same! Really impressed with this run though, as long as we can keep grinding these results, we’ll be in and around it by the end of the season, COYW
Anything other than a win would be very surprising
There is a brilliant chip shop by the Charlton ground and I go in it when i’m there. However, near to Molineux is a Chicken Cottage, a KFC AND a chip shop. So on that scientific basis i’m going 3-1 Wolves.
Which chippy mate?
I always dread playing the off-form teams when we are going well but I will ignore the negative thoughts and go for a hard fought victory.
Posting from sunny (well its dry anyway) Brussels). I’ll settle for the same result as last week.
Charlton will probably park the bus and let the tyres down so I see another low-scoring game.(this probably means we’ll score a bucketful !)
The top and bottom of this game is who wants it the most, charlton are on free fall and wolves on another run to the play offs at least I hope.
Anyone in this league can beat anyone else so I hope we don’t think its a formality by just turning up.
Its a game we can win if they do their job properly and professionally,
Hope Dicko gets back to scoring because he’s been a bit unlucky at late.
So here’s hoping for a win of any sort, points mean prizes and we all know where that could lead us to,PL..UTW
Going to break tradition this week!!
Think I’ll stick to a 2-0 again but hopefully the break through will be a bit sooner tomorrow.
No reason to change the team and expect Charlton to park the bus as Blackpool did last week
Telford wolf. If i remember right.you come off charlton train station and head to the ground. Down a hill and away fans off to the right. Chippy is there just as you go off to the right toward away end. Bloody nice chips…soaks the beer up !
In a free society all opinions are allowed within reason. The Guardian is a media outlet which can reasonably be described as ‘left leaning’. It picked up on SIr Jack’s own comment that he ‘was more right wing than Margaret Thatcher’. Sir Jack also embraced eveything that was British. In my opinion this does not make him a racist in any way shape or form. Whilst he was at the helm Wolves signed and nurtured black players. A true racist would not allow that to happen. I myself am a life long trade unionist and wolves fan. I recognise the difference between patriotism and racism. Sir Jack was not a racist in my opinion. Matt Murray made a glowing tribute to Sir Jack with whom he was in frequent contact. The chap from The Guardian would have been better off doing some research before making public announcements. It would be interesting to hear from our black and asian friends on this blog if they have any comments. Just replying to earlier comments above.
Onwards and upwards !!
We’ll grind out another win here.
I’ve always liked Charlton as a second team. I think we will win but they will play with heart this weekend. Good luck boys..
Low scoring affair. Dicko to net the winner in the firat half
Close game I think.
Charlton will park the bus I just hope we can find that finishing touch to claim all 3 points
Hopefully we keep our rise up the table
COYW
3 more points to finish off January in style thank you. 🙂
Interesting next 4 games. Hoping for a repeat of the form shown this time last year, and a push towards the finish line.
We’re on a high; they’re down in the dumps. We’re looking tight at the back; they’re struggling to keep clean sheets. We’ve got a new striker who’s already scored; they’ve got a nobody as their new manager new manager. We wouldn’t be Wolves if we didn’t somehow contrive to lose this one completely against the run of play.
Very similar game to last week and the same result me thinks.
Would like us to play two strikers but think the starting team will be the same as last week.
Smaller crowd but same result. But someone is due for a thrashing.
Hands up anyonewho thinks Sako will sign for Tony Pulis’sTesco carrier bag folk.????
Me thinks this is a bit of upset the neighbours gamesmanship.
As Clive say’s far better than we can.
FOWB
It’s typical of that prat .. he’s renowned for it .. the smile will be on his arse when they get relegated …
Potential banana skin, but I won’t go for anything less than a convincing win.
Games that look so winnable always make me nervous but we should get the job done.
Difficult to predict anything but a comfortable win.
Wining when not at your best is always good so I think there is better to come and no reason we can’t make the play offs which first year back would be am excellent achievement.
Another tough match but we shall prevail.
I lost my dog, hence my blog name, this week so I would love for my team of Wolves to stuff the pants out of someone. I’m scattering his ashes at his favourite watering hole at 1, then heading off to my favourite watering hole afterwards. Come on lads. Do it for Spotty.
Can´t remember my own name – tough match UTW.
Always a bit concerned coming into these type of match-ups against a team on terrible run of form! That said the feel good factor looks like it’s in full swing at present and with Afobe’s arrival we have some strong attacking options even without Sako. Think we’ll dominate but without bagging too many.
Off topic – some great Wolves games here
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxYldqqQli4fiH9AMhXbvrg
Agreed – a great channel for Wolves fans of a certain vintage.
I’ve been a subscriber to this fellow for some time.
Where does he get all the footage from?
Expecting a comfortable home win. The only risk to that is Charlton’s recent record. We have a habit of breaking teams bad runs! Would be nice to see Dicko and Afobe score.
Here’s hoping for another Blackpool result
So….all the ingredients are there for a disappointing draw! But, reading through the bloggers’ comments, I’m more inclined to believe that we will keep the run going and perhaps even make a better contribution to our woeful goal difference. Can’t go as far as Clive as we dont seem to go in for high scores – maybe when Sako’s back.
Don’t talk it up Stu..to think that Sako would go to the enemy really doesn’t bear thinking about..
I just hope that Afobe and Dicko together will give Sacko confidence that we can get him playing in the PL..
Wolves to get Man U winger on loan on Monday, with option to buy if he’s any good, preparing for Sako exit?????
:-))
Come on Stuwolf .. who are we talking about …. Ashley Young, Antonio, …surely not De Maria .. or is it ” one for the future?”
Text me the name .. in confidence …. X
I was given the name but thought it was the Goalie Lindegrand, it’s a similar name to that, the folk around my seat knew of him and seemed quite pleased with the news.
Lindegrand or something like that is all I can offer, anyone with info on the guy could probably fill in the missing bit.
But, anyway, it’s apparently going to happen on Monday so hopefully he will be available for Saturday at Bolton. Taking him on loan with an option.
We await with baited breath.
🙂
Just scoured the United website, I think (think) it’s Jesse Lingard, says he’s 23 year old Midfielder, born in Warrington played for U21s.
Looks a bit like Anderson.
🙂
Its probably Jesse Lingard Stu.
Tony polish: “well Bakary. We have a marvellous set up here” sako ” bud i due na liake yor cap.wee ave nu chavs in mali” Tp “must say bakary i don’t like yor attitude. But hey! Can you take a massive long throw in. With any luck peter crouch will be here soon” BS “fuck off. I’d rather play for walsall. And in any case smethwick is s**t and i’d rather live in outer mongolia. At least they’ve got a mcdonalds.”… well you never know.
