You need only look at the teams sandwiching Wolves in the table to remember how easy it is to come crashing back to earth.
Lose 10% out of your performance and the Warnocks and McCarthys of this league are ready to gobble you up whole with their belligerent brand of football.
It’s been wonderful to see Nuno’s boys silkily navigate these tricky looking opening fixtures with a degree of comfort but there would be something particularly satisfying about winning this one.
I’ve got nothing against Cardiff or Neil Warnock, but the combination of their impressive start and the powerful makeup of their side means they’d be a notable scalp.
After all, if none of the promotion favourites can beat us and none of the archetypal Championship powerhouses can get it done, who else is left?
Cardiff
I did a pre-recorded interview for Radio Cardiff ahead of this game and the presenter asked me if I was surprised by how well they’d started. Hardly.
If you look at what they’ve done since Warnock took over midway through last season and the side he’s put together, they were always going to be up near the top.
They’ve got three giants at the back in Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba and Ecuele Manga, which immediately makes me sweat thinking about defending set pieces.
Further forward you’ve got the pace and trickery of Hoilet, Tomlin and intriguingly the former Wolves man Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. Looking forward to seeing what he’s got to offer.
Then big Kenneth Zohore up front, whose been a revelation since Warnock took over and was subject to a failed £10 million bid from Hull just yesterday.
They’re going to throw the kitchen sink at this burgeoning Wolves team and if they enforce their game, it’ll be a difficult afternoon for the home side.
Wolves
It’s amazing what happens when you keep a settled side with players all in their best positions isn’t it? I think too many managers over complicate the process in search of a winning formula.

Cavaleiro and Dicko are the only two really pushing for a start, assuming no injuries to other players. But both of them have done well coming off the bench so why change?
Right now you just want everything to stay the same for as long as possible to see if we can continue riding the crest of the wave.
I still think the club are planning to introduce another striker before the month is out, but given how well we’ve started and the players to come back, it’s probably not the mandatory acquisition it was once deemed.
Predictions
Unfortunately, my hands are tied once again. We’ve won all three games and I’ve predicted draws in each of them so I can’t buck the trend.
If you’re less superstitious than me and fancy backing the Wolves, Bethut have a a range of predictions, tips and bookie offers which you might find useful.
This will ultimately come down to who can enforce their style of play on the game. If it becomes about power and physicality Cardiff will be on top, but if Wolves can get their technical players to dictate it will be an entirely different contest.
I’m confident, lets just say that.
1-1.
Up The Wolves!

PL table has been updated lads:
https://wolvesblog.com/prediction-league
Falling on my sword here in terms of the Prediction League as I actually think we will win 4-1 but am predicting a draw purely on the basis that I have predicted draws against Boro, Derby and Hull and we’ve obviously won all three so don’t want to jinx anything.
Wouldn’t be that surprised to see Cavaleiro and/or Dicko start ahead of Bonatini and/or Jota purely for reasons of fatigue.
Am expecting a physical match with Warnock’s lot kicking anything that moves and he will no doubt have them wound up to Interestingly I looked up tomorrow’s referee online and he is quite well known for being card happy and issues more than his fair share of reds so can see at least one team being reduced to 10 men – hopefully them not us.
Will be there as usual tomorrow – North Bank bar around 1.45pm onwards I’d guess. Look forward to seeing whichever Bloggers are in there. I’ll be the dashingly handsome and debonaire good looking one wearing a carnation.
No doubt Cardiff will pose a threat, but I feel with confidence high we’re always going to be a danger on the counter, even though we’re playing at home, so I’ll back us to get another impressive win.
Keep It On The Deck +
Play Out From The Back +
A High Press =
We’re Gonna Score One More Than You!
This will be a real test against a classic blood and Thunder style .It also provides another depressing reminder of the endless talent our Club has thrown away in recent years -Winnall ,Vokes and Mendez Laing being just three examples .We can only hope that better ownership will lead to better decisions .Loaning out not selling the likes of Ennis and Iorfa ( who I could see being moulded in to a wing back ) being good examples .
Cardiff will offer a different challenge to the ones we have faced so far there is no doubt. From the various highlights Ive seen of them so far this season they are more than a just a kick and chase team however.
We need to keep calm and play our game no matter how many kicks and elbows are being dished out. Tight first half with no goals followed by Wolves moving into a different gear in the second half and showing the quality.
I think come 5pm Saturday a real statement will be made to the rest of the division when looking at this fixture. The question is who will the result favour? One of two performances can be expected – either we cut Cardiff to pieces with incisive attacking play and plenty of possession, or Cardiff (as they did against Villa) hit us with pace, power and physicality. I have a feeling our superior quality will result in a happy afternoon at Molineux for Nuno and the boys.
UTW
Wolves stats
Goals per game 2 Avg – Possession 50.8% – Pass Accuracy 79.5% – Shots per game 10
Tackles per game 20 – Dribbles per game 7.3
Cardiff stats
Goals per game 2 Avg – Possession 44.3% – Pass Accuracy 62.6% – Shots per game 17
Tackles per game 11.7 – Dribbles per game 14.7
No surprise we have better possession and pass accuracy than them. Surprised we have more tackles per game.
Nuno would have done his homework so will have a plan to overcome Cardiff.
We should be on the look-out for Mendez-Laing. He was a promising youngster at Wolves but, for whatever reason, did not make the breakthrough here. Now he is showing how good a player he is, he is very dangerous and will no doubt score against us.
That won’t matter though, we will still come out on top and send Warnock home with his tail between his legs. Oh, and some snide comments about us spending …blah blah blah..
Another win and we will be sitting on the top of the league come Saturday evening.
Their defense and strikers are obviously very good. Their midfield on the other hand are much weaker than ours, and we’ll therefore create more chances and win the game comfortably.
Now there’s confidence Karlir. You’re morphing into Clive.
And what, may I ask, is wrong with that?????
I am going for a draw.
However I think we might win 4-0
Can we go through the season unbeaten?
Possible.
Keep it going lads. Another tough game but hoping we can keep this run going. Before the season started I’d have taken 7 points out of the first 4 fixtures. Great start!
Top of the table come Saturday evening. Class will out.
I have not predicted a victory for Wolves yet.
And we have three wins. So I keep it that way.
Looking forward for this one.
Thanks for Wolves TV , I can see a lot of matches here in Norway
COYW
This I think will be our toughest test yet and I can’t put my finger on it but I do have “something” against Neil Warnock and any side he manages! To get something from this for me would be cause for a massive celebration! I still think technically we have what it takes, even if we aren’t quite as physically gifted as this Cardiff side, and I think technical prowess will prevail, come on me babbies, let’s go again!! #FWAW
Cardiff will park the bus and hope to catch wolves on the break.
Our wingbacks will be marked out of existence BUT Bright will perform magic and score.
However I see a tight game with few chances.
Superstition rules.
Same prediction hopefully same result.
I am superstitious too. I knew we would win our first three games if i predicted 2 draws and went awol on the third. Job done. Strange thing is i think the fates will say its time i got one right. (Looking forward to NBB heard Bedders will buy anyone a drink who will listen to him on Price and Edwards.).
I can manage without the drink.
Ah Price and Edwards. If only we had them back in the team instead of this pair of jokers we’ve got there now. What are they called again? Saiss? Neves? Bloody rubbish! Bring back Jack & Dave! Or George Saville. Bring back Lonergan and Stearman. Bring back James Henry, Jed Wallace and Nathan Byrne! Bring back my bonnie to me, to me, Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my bonnie to me! P.S. Mine’s a pint.
Well i was warned think i will sit this one out with Wolfstroker. Pass and move ?
Another game, another stern test for Wolves. In my opinion come end of the season Cardiff will be in the play off mix, theirs is not a false position, unlike MM’s Ipswich.
Still I believe Wolves to be a bridge too far for Warnock’s team. The lads are going from strength to strength as testified by the previous games against 3 of the better league’s oppositions. As for possible line up changes – why fix if ain’t broken? Both Cavaleiro and Dicko seem lethal coming up from the bench – in fact I fancy one of them scoring tomorrow to put the game to bed.
Going for another 2-0 win and top of the table.
2-1 with Mendez-Laing getting the consolation.
This is as far as it gets for those old boyo s
They should count them selves lucky that Costa is injured or it could be a darts score !
Croeso i Wolves Mother F######rs!
Portuhampton Wanderers 4
Carcrash City. 1
Even though it’s early doors I think this game could be pivotal for both teams going forward. As stats Sevlov quoted show Cardiff win despite poor possession and passing. We can assume then that their success is built on counter-attacks and set pieces. A team as pragmatic as Warnock normally provides will be full of niggling and frustrating habits. I would expect NES to be fully aware of this and will have called on the players to guard against responding in kind.
Starting Dicko may pay of as his confidence must be high and with goals coming from all areas he no longer needs to feel all the responsibility.
I’ll always associate Neil Warnock with Cardiff. What a day out that was!
We’ll score 3 goals in the first half, and Ruddy will save a pen just after the restart.
Big Jack to give us the thumbs up from heaven with minutes to go, then we’ll be rocking all over the world
Two keys to this match, for a Wolves win:
1) important we focus on quick passing & movement off ball; too much carrying of ball will see us knocked off it (Bright & Jota take note)
2) important that all our back three stand up to the physical threat, also Saiss, especially at defensive set pieces.
It does not matter how much planning and scheming is done by opposition managers, nothing can predict that wonder goal by Neves on Tuesday.
This is only one of the reasons why we will storm this league. We have so many different players who have already scored this season, and we have no out and out striker we are depending on to score the bulk of our goals.
Add in the fact that some of our play has been breathtakingly sublime, super quick and incisive, and the realization that something really special is taking place, and other teams are going to be left chasing shadows.
Warnock is a McCarthorse style dinosaur, still smarting from his “invincibles” of Cardiff 2003, putting out “shift” players.
Well, dinosaurs are extinct, the world and football has progressed and evolved, and managers like him should be sent to the knackers yard.
Easiest three points of the season tomorrow, 5-1 to me babbeez.
FOwb
Nice blog Thomas and I agree with your sentiments.
I think Cardiff will try and kick shit out of us but I think we have the pace to unsettle them. I might be tempted to start Dicko.
I trust we’ll have enough to keep us out of trouble and nick a goal or two.
sorry forgot I need to make my prediction from laptop not tablets or it won,t register
Including the friendly against Leicester, I’ve forecast us winning every game so far. Each time I think: “this is a big, big test”. I’m thinking the same this time. The power and pace of Cardiff against the classier skills of Wolves.
When we’re had good runs in the past with Jackett and Lambert, we all knew in our gut that the wheels would come off. This time is different, our whole style, preparation and ethos is from a parallel universe.
To the neutral observer, this top of the table clash has draw written all over it. I’m not a neutral observer. I’m going for a win again. Can’t decide from 1-0; 2-1 or 3-1 so I will split the difference at 2-1.
Got to be another win. I’ve predicted wins in all games so far and am restricted by a fear of provoking the god of superstition.
I’m probably one of the few people on this planet that actually quite likes Warnock and feel he’s a far better manager than given credit for…despite the fact he moans like an old woman if anything doesn’t go his way.
I expect his Cardiff side to do well this season and that this will be another tough match but I’m going for us to edge it.
I too recognise his achievements as a manager Newt. Few better in the lower divisions. And that, after all, is why he’s employed in the first place.
Are we scared? Not one iota. Three for Leo one for Jota.
Cardiff havnt let a goal in yet so tomorrow will be the day they do! I’m a bit worried about tomorrow though not cause it’s Cardiff but because I’m so used to false dalms at wolves my head is saying a 2 0 win my heart is saying a 1 1 draw
Cmon boys let’s beat these sheep shaggers
Strong, composed, assured. I think a 2-0. I bet Nuno gave them some grief about set plays the other night. Lets keep it going.
Thomas has rightly identified their strengths as pace up front and height and physique at the back. Mendez-Laing seems to like to drift out wide left and then cut inside onto his right foot to shoot, whilst Zahore is a player I like with pace, strength and a good finish on him.
Conversely, ‘Colin’ has a reputation as a man who is great at motivating but lost when it comes to tactics. So I think he could be in for a long afternoon against Nuno’s 3-4-3 wing-back system.
I thought The Villa and Sheffield Utd were deluded but they have nothing on you lot. Three victories and not a goal conceded. I am not so,arrogant as some of you to predict a massive win for City but we certainly ain’t the one trick ponies some of you think we are. Warnock has build a strong, well organised side who are very difficult to beat. If last season had started when Warnock took over we would have finished 5th, I don’t understand why the press and pundits have virtually ignored our promotion chances as we have not sold any of our main assists and whe have improved the squad quality considerably I fancy us to get something tomorrow, yeh your result have been impressive but if there is a time to play the favourites the beginning of the season is it.
Good luck for the rest of the season apart from when you play us of course.
Good luck to you too Bluebird. COUW !!
Well Bluebird whether someone is being g delusional is a point of view and you are entitled to yours. Warnock has a great track record and has clearly done a good job at Cardiff. On limited funds. But it’s very much old school. I think you will understand the difference by about 21:00 tomorrow when you reflect on the game. Whether your ow er has been delusional in his ambitions is very much open to debate. Whether Wolves owners have been delusional in their ambitions is not up for debate. We saw you at your best under Warnock last season and you couldn’t cope with Costa. We have no Costa this time but at least three that are his equivalent. No game is a certainty but I think you will find that quality evens itself out over a season. Good luck with your efforts.
Nice comments matey.
Good luck to your team also. I’ m one of the few with no axe to grind over Neil Warnock, I also think he is a decent manager, ugly twat but a good manager.
Thanks for coming on here and not being the usual troll.
All the best for tomorrow buddy, if your’e coming up, enjoy the day, should be fun, we’re close to full.
Just when you think the money in football nowadays can’t get more ludicrous I have just seen Jonny Evans the largely mediocre (at best) defender for the Sandwell Shadow Dwellers being quoted at being worth £20,000,000.
What!
Perhaps we’d better sell Danny Batth before the price bubble bursts – £25,000,000 anyone?
OODCL
See all you bloggers in the North Bank Bar 12-30 prompt. Let’s see if we can get a bigger turn out than we did at home to ‘Borough. We will need a wide angle lens to get us all in to the “ Selfie “
And of course the score line, 3-1 to the Mighty Wolves.
One word of warning, The referee Is Scott Duncan, he has ref’ed three games so far this season and shown ten yellows and two reds. Not sure we need a card happy ref’ . But it should slow Warnock’s boot ‘em up in the air philosophy.
Matt jump the train, forget the car, lets party !!!
I can’t be doing with all this consistency lark, team keeps bloody winning making me crack a grin. Lets bring back Mad Mick, get a few defenders playing as strikers and talk bollocks after the game for 5 minutes about Yorkshire grit and putting a shift in.
A draw will keep the grin on my ugly mug and a win will make me ecstatic.
Really need Wolves to win this, if only so I can have local bragging rights.I see that Nathan Blake, writing in the local newspaper is predicting 3-2 to them. Let’s prove him wrong!
I watched the Villa highlights and this one looks mouth watering: they have some pace and power, set pieces will be a worry, but I’ll take a Boro style performance and result to see us through. It’ll be tough though, wouldn’t be surprised by any result. Close call but 1-0 to us.
I think this will be a tough game with most likely goals on both parts. However I’ll stick with my prediction as it’s worked so far!
COYW
A tough test yes, but Nuno’s nous will prevail. I agree about keeping the same winning team, subject to fitness / injuries.
Top of the league here we come
Really want to see us win this one. Not just to go top of the table, which will be sweet, but also to see Warnock be a sore loser, which is always so entertaining! 🙂
Come on Wolves. Let’s do this thing!
GW
I’m with the superstitious predict a draw gang.
Warnock will know he can’t out-football us, so will try to disrupt our game and be physical. Hopefully the cream will rise to the top and we’re top of the league come 5 o’clock.
When the fixtures were released, we all thought ‘ouch, tough start’. But most I’m sure were focused on the first three fixtures and game 4, home to Cardiff, would have seemed a simpler affair.
Not now, however, as Cardiff are sitting pretty at the top and are the only team keeping us from that exalted position.
Sure, they’ve had a great start but a closer look will show they’ve beaten one newly promoted team and the two teams who are propping up the rest of the league. Not saying they’re in a false position. You can only beat what’s put in front of you. But it doesn’t show you’re gonna walk the league either and we will their biggest test of the season so far, by some distance.
Will they be our biggest test so far? That remains to be seen but I certainly wouldn’t have thought so before the big kick off.
So, brains versus brawn? Possession versus pragmatism. Tactics versus tough tackling.
Is it that simple? I don’t think it is. They have some pacy and skilful forwards who we’ll have to keep tight shackles on.
So who’s gonna come out on top?
Us, of course.
One winning run will come to an end Saturday and I think it will be Cardiff’s. At least I hope it will.
If we can avoid falling for the niggling shin kicking tactics that Neil Warnock will be demanding of his players we should be hosed and home with a good win.
COYW
As I say my prayers tonight I shall be asking the great DOOG in the sky to give us a firm referee tomorrow.
I’m not saying that Cardiff will try and kick the Bejesus out of us tomorrow but I suspect that the wily old fox with the biggest set of gnashers in football (are they really his own teeth or is he wearing them for a canine friend?) will have told his troops to try and ‘nullify’ our creative players as soon as the whistle goes.
I am excited, slightly wary but quietly confident that we will beat the ‘Woolly animal willyers’ tomorrow but don’t want it to be at the cost of losing one of our players for a couple of months due to an over eager Welsh boot up the bottom.
Cardiff then. They’re a big lot aren’t they? So, as has been noted already, I hope that Nuno has been getting the boys practicing defending against high balls slung in from all directions.
I have always preferred man for man marking over zonal defending and when I played in goal, the first thing I shouted at my defenders was “Near and far posts!”.
Let’s get this right lads.
Do the business on Saturday and we’ll be top of the league.
Not bad for starters!
And the score?
3-1
Going for a win as I did in all previous 3 games. If only I can get the score right! Would like to see Dicko too at the start. Replace 2 or three forwards/striker after an hour or so and run ém ragged!
It’s funny how all you wanky wanderers fans are righting everyone off bad yourselves wasn’t you guy predicted to win the league last year?what happened there? We will see what happens 2’mo I believe will be a good game but write us off at ur peril the way I’m feeling I might even bag s hatrrick ?
Judging by your inability to spell or use the English language correctly let alone grammatically I would hazard a guess that you are either;
a) about 7 years old
b) a bit ‘touched’
c) a Cardiff City fan
Or maybe all three.
Johnny Evans?????
Don’t you bloody start!
Any road up what do Yanks know about spelling?
Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my bonnie to me!
Stick to your Guns Bedders, it’s definitely spelt “Jonny Evans”
Hi Ken
Have you heard about the theory that
‘if an infinite number of monkeys were given typewriters they would eventually type the complete works of Shakespeare’.
…No, I didn’t think so.
I’m going with all the other superstitious fans and sticking to the prediction I’ve made for the last three games. In reality I feel sure they’ll score, just hoping we go at least one better.
I seem to remember a midweek game against Luton in the dear dead days beyond recall. We won 5-4 and a couple of the reporters described it as the best game they’d ever seen. Perhaps it will happen again.
Let’s get this right no if’s or but’s, if you like football you have to hate Warnock. He’s a cynical opinionated bastard, who’s a poor loser, plays physically to kick the opposition off the park. He has no class at all, his time and attitude at Sheff Utd period shows that in spades always hard done to never getting decisions and often on the backs of the officials for applying the rules of the game.
I want us to thrash Cardiff for those reason alone.
That said he’s an old sly cheating SOB and we need to be wary of his team and tactics. They will fly out of the blocks and kick anything moving for first 10mins hoping to get away with blue murder. Come 5pm I will be overjoyed if Cardiff troup home having had their sheepy blue throats cut to ribbons by a bunch of slavering Wolves.
Again going on superstition only my prediction will be the opposite of hearts desire……..
The style our team plays is superior to the style Cardiff play. Based on this alone, we will win.
The only concern is something unusual happening, like players sent off or penalty kicks.
2-0 Wolves.
Will be a proper blood and guts game and a really good test for us, just hope that skill overcomes brute force.
Money Shop – OUT, Redrow signs – DOWN, Liquidator – BACK.
COUW
BTW, I think some of the Wolves players are itching for a rough game. I’m thinking how upset Roderick must be about getting that yellow card in the first game for being a little physical and how he might like to rough it up a bit, for fun. Willy won’t back down either. They were promised a physical Championship and are probably a little disappointed so far.
Bring it on, Neil.
I agree with the point made by Wolfstroker about the teams both sides have played in the first three games. A very difficult start for us, and nine points, a tad unexpected but the quality of performance I witnessed in all these three matches was exceptional.
Quality always comes through in the end, and while in this kind of aerial combat game so loved all of Warnock`s sides, not only from set pieces but whenever they work a full back into space, if we can find a way of dealing with this I wonder what else they may have to offer.
I`d play the Brazilian from the start, we need his physicality and use Dicko`s & Cav`s pace late on . I don`t think it will be as awkward as some believe, so for me another three goals and three points.
We have had really tough games so far ,
Cardiff haven’t
Until tomorrow
Top of the league by 5 pm and I’d be ok with our first defeat being at Southampton tbh with our second team
I actually don’t mind warnoch , if you look behind the wind up he’s quite funny
Utw
Funny doogooder , funny
Will be glued to wolves tv at 7am
Assuming me warnock will try to take molineux crowd out of the game by parking bus and hoping for breakaway goal in first half and maybe he will
But 90 mins is a long time and I think we will come through..with a penalty to make the difference and give him something to moan about
At the moment we are riding on the crest of a wave. Might be a tough game tomorrow but I’m still going for the 3 points and 3 goals seeing as almost any of our 10 outfield players is capable of hitting the back of the net at the moment.
Is this really a 6 pointer so early on in the season. it could well be.
I believe the Nuno gave the team what for in the dressing room, because they upset Steve S by conceding two very silly goals. Based on that perceived bollocking, I feel that we will keep a clean sheet tomorrow. Cardiff (along with Swansea), should not be playing in the English League anyway, they should feck off back to Wales.
Now that I have had a whinge, and as I can’t stand Wanky Warnock, I am predicting that we slap them all over the park.
Wolves 6
Cardiff 0
You do realize, Brompty, that if it were not for Welsh navvies, your front drive (M62) would not have been built?
Yeah, that’s true.. …but, we will still beat the sheepshaggers.
Lol ..perhaps it’s because of my incessant whining about us conceding zillions ..ask DB..
Beautiful footy meets this crap and held to a draw .. at least we’ll kill their clean sheet run
If we win it will be great.
Agree those savages will do their best to injure one of ours early on.
All this talk of a new striker being imminent. We need a striker who can move, create space for Jota/Bright/Cab to do their thing, and add value to our system. Someone in the mould of D.Costa not T.Frankowski.
Keep that lumbering twat Thelwell far away from this recruitment campaign.
Going for a win, although it will be a tough physical battle. Hoping brains will beat brawn.
Can’t predict a win yet. Hopefully the team nets me zero points again.
Can’t believe wolves can keep going so well. Also think defense has struggled from set pieces. too many players will not have experienced championship destructive play at its purest. Warnock would be happy with draw. either way won’t want us to settle and play football. I think nuno will get a lesson. Although I hope not.
Wolves to play the better football but concede from a free kick and neither side to send a message out to the division.
Excellent post from Thomas who covered the salient points well and left us only needing to ponder the score really.
The main thing I got from it was how big and strong the Cardiff team are, and I’d agree. The fact they haven’t conceded is pretty impressive too.
The only problem with that is…they ain’t played us yet.
I reckon we’ll pass the ball around em like Roger Daltrey sans the deaf, dumb and blind stuff. It doesn’t really matter how tall they are if the ball stays on the deck and gets pinged around as our guys have worked it of late.
I won’t jump on the Warnock bashing bandwagon cos I actually do like the bloke. He wants to win and there’s nowt wrong with that. He’s also expressed on numerous occasions how much he enjoys the crack at Wolves and he respects us as a club and especially our fans.
It’ll be a good game. Much closer than the test match that I’m watching while I write this. So let’s enjoy it, and enjoy being top of the league tomorrow.
As for the Cardiff infiltrators who’ve got their mams and dahs to buy some electric for their Commodore 64’s: I warned a welly wearing mate of mine a few years ago about having to learn 2 languages OFF of pobwl y com . You can see how educationally confused the poor buggers have become now….yakki dah.
UTE
We are way too quick for Cardiff so grizzly guts will try to cut us down in midfield and on the wings.
When that doesn’t work they will start falling over if they get anywhere near our box to get a free kick so they can put their giants in the box.
Nuno will know this and discipline his side accordingly.
Total confidence but we will need the break to get rid of the bruises
Usually like to write a few lines but as mentioned previously, Sue and I are in Barcelona so I will just predict the score. Seen some very sad things today that puts everything in to perspective.Thank you for the messages and have a great day tomorrow all.
Stay safe guys. See you sometime soon.
On a complete aside guys, I’m looking to get my hands on a couple of Brentford tickets. If anyone gets wind of any going spare can you give me a shout? Muchos thankyos.
Speak to Stuwolf Thomas.. I think he manages the Blog ticketing…
Thomas,
It’s a sell out, so your best option is go in to the ticket office and put your bame down for any returns.
Keep the faith – skill will out the negativity Warnock will attempt.
An early goal for us could see a hatful, the longer they hold out then I ‘d worry about a counter-attack/ free kick/corner for them.
Need a strong ref.. but expect another Wolves victory.
Got a 20ft flagpole in our front garden which usually flies the ENGLAND or UNION JACK but has been flying my large WOLVES/ENGLAND FLAG since 1st AUGUST and will not be coming down until we get beat. On the form we have been showing the flag could be in tatters by the time that happens. Still enjoying the ride. COYW.
Flag’s at half mast…!
Hopefully Wolves TV won’t crash so I miss the first 30 minutes of this one… COYW from Chicago!
got to be confident and to continue winning streak
Still enjoying the ride. COYW.
Cardiff will be a very tough nut to crack. I can see them trying to batter and bully our centre midfielders for 90 mins, they’re in for a tough afternoon but quality always outshines brute force.
Could be a real cracker.
I’m hoping for another win. Molineux is going to be heaving again. Can the continental finesse and technical ability conquer the brute strength & physicality of Cardiff? I think so. Come on me babbies!
Posted on the Newsnow site from Ghana, they are saying Phil Ofuso Ayeh is in with a shout of playing tomorrow. I very much doubt it but Nuno don’t mess about and is full of surprises.
The Germans rate him, so it would be nice to get a look at him.
For me, more of the same, another sterling performance from our Portugueezers, we dominate them as in the last three games, play it on the deck and it don’t matter how tall the Cardiff boys are, them fooked. By the way, ( Wolves average height is a score of 7.2. Cardiffs is 7.1)
I’m a fairy, me name is Nuff, Fairy Nuff.
We win the day. 2-0
Come on me bambinos.

I tryed to get the wedding postponed but to no avail, I ve try to fain illness to no avail and I’ve tryed to to fain madness and the wife believes me, mad she said your bloody barking if you think your going to the match tomorrow……..but………but isaid its only your cusion I said..!
If don’t come to this wedding ill never speak to you again…..and for one secound I thought to my self at last after 23 years I’ve finally found away to shut her up.
Well I typed my best but ill be in Yorkshire tomorrow instead of the Golen Palace but ill be there in spirt willing the boys on to another victory against one of the most unsporting manager in Neil Bloody Warnock he’s never given us credit when ever we have beat him he’s always said we were lucky or his team were not given the rub of the green.
Well I’m predicting a 2.0 win as I did against Hull but I think it will be 3.2 to us……I hope
You’ve feigned madness pretty convincingly on the blog for a while mate, and we can all see through it so you’ll never fool the missus.
Enjoy the wedding.
Give our love to Yorkshire.
Your right Doog……so right mate cheers, my body will be in Yorkshire but my heart as always is in Wolverhampton and the Golden Palace….cheers .
It’s 1-0 for Juan Nil !
We could be top and Ipshit need to slip up if we do the business ..
That we should do with another big V sign to our critics..
Nuno needs to be switched on for the second half and be proactive but what’s there not to be confident about?
RIP BRUCIE.
IT WAS NICE TO SEE YOU.
TO SEE YOU NICE
LEGEND AND REALLY NICE MAN.
I echo your sentiments Stu growing up in the seventies and eighties Brucie was a staple diet from the Genaration Game to Play Your Cards Right on a Saturday evening never big headed or unapproachable and an all round nice geezer.
God Bless Bruce your never brought me down….just the opersite..!
After beating Hull on Tuesday night,I think we can and should beat the sheep shaggers regardless what Wanker Warnock spews to his team pre match,he’ll be telling them to kick scratch foul when the official’s arn’t looking.but after all quality counts and we’ve got that in she ad loads.UTW
This is going to be a great game but I think our first loss of the season – hope I’m wrong!
This is one I would love to win by a big score but feel that it will be close
I may not be able to follow the game live, which may be just as well for my nerves but when I look for score in the evening I shall be hoping for
Look out Chumpionship weeeeer back.

COMBambinos
Any news from you man in the know re: a striker….?
They are playing this one close to their chest.
It’s tighter than a Nun’s…
well you know what I mean.
Nothing buddy, let’s hope no news is good news.
WOLVES V CARDIFF
A look back in time –
Funny how Cardiff City figures in our history as our record away victory came at Ninian Park in September 1955 when Wolves won 9-1. Hancocks and Swinbourne both bagged a hat trick and my Dads all-time favourite Peter Broadbent netted two with Mullen the other.
Meanwhile at the Molineux……………
“Cast your mind back” – the opening lines to “Fire Brigade” by The Move.
For those of a certain vintage (like me) Wednesday 21st September 1966 may well be remembered when under the Molineux lights with clouds of bluish smoke wafting up into the night sky from countless Embassy, Park Drive, Number 6 and Woodbines, (a mate of mine smoked Capstan Full Strength which was akin to drawing down burning wellington boots mixed with steaming tarmac into the lungs, so I am told) Wolves recorded one of their highest home victories.
Following the 8-2 goal feast v Portsmouth the previous season we were treated to another one – this time Wolves winning 7-1. The opponents – Cardiff City.
Wharton (3), Hunt, Mcllmoyle, Thomson and Wagstaffe bagged the goals.
For those of us with true Black Country connections I think George Andrews (ex- Lower Gornal Athletic centre forward who used to play at the Garden Walk “stadium” where I played a couple of times – memories) may have actually played in that game. He was transferred from Gornal to Cardiff in 1965 when the Cardiff manager Jimmy Scouler signed him. Cardiff then agreed to play a friendly at Gornal which drew the record crowd to the Garden Walk which used to house 2,000.
I am fairly sure the 7-1 thrashing was the match when Peter Knowles sat on the ball near the half way line under the Molineux Street clock – egging on the Cardiff players to “come and get it”. Showmanship? Sure was, but it was Knowles all over and hilarious to those of us on the North Bank terrace. I believe he also did the same v Nottingham Forest in a later season.
A couple of connections – Kenny Hibbit had three spells at Cardiff as manager and player and of course Dave Jones managed the team for a while.
To the present day and I predict our excellent start to the season will continue – maybe not to the tune of 7-1 – but a win all the same.
Wolves 2 Cardiff 0
BOG
Really looking forward to this one. Cardiff have been on a good run since Warnock took over but we beat them towards the back end last season and regardless of what Colin thinks we have improved, improved a lot!!!! The only thing that concerns me is their 3 big centre halfs and our zonal marking from set pieces. However, we have more than enough to hurt them but going for a tight controlled performance with Bright finally breaking his duck.
2-0 Wolves – no sweat
BOG
Well if you can’t be optomistic after this start when can you be? Going for the win again – slight concern about the much predicted physicality of the Welsh outfit. Concentrate and move the ball quickly lads and let skill win the day. Cardiff to concede their first goals of the season in front of another vocal big Molineux crowd.
The ex player curse looms for this one. A hard tough team Cardiff so it will be a physical challenge, lets hope we can be as tough as them.
Agreed Kiwi – let’s hope that my prediction is as wrong as yours (fourth time for me this season!) and that Nuno and the boys hammer the old fox Warnock and his crew.
More than a bit worried about our defending set pieces – City are a big side.
COMBs!
This game looks a toughy on face values … first v second in the championship. … I needed some guidance on this one and thought back to Costa’s goal last season against the bluebirds …dumping the keeper on his horibilus anus…. the score a real bobby dazzler.
Tomorrow offers the chance to Diogo (Jota) to emulate that effort with another solo virtuoso.
Cheers to some of the bluebird fans for coming on this Blog with dignity and making sensible comments and for sure it will be tough for both sides. …… a lot will depend on who scores first… and I think it will be us.
The second will come from a counter attack with the Cav knocking in the clincher….
Just hope Warnock can take it …
have a sneaky feeling Cardiff might nick it….
Don’t know why but I think we’ll slip up in this one.
Maybe it’s the natural wolves fan pessimism but I think the combination of a physical slogging team and the ex player curse might be the undoing of us.
August 19th (or thereabouts) a look back in time – something to do as I am bored so I am going to bore you lot…………..
August 21st 1948 – Wolves 2 Birmingham 1 – 54,361
August 20th 1949 – Fulham 1 Wolves 2 – 43,854 at Craven Cottage!!! Blimey half the crowd must have been in the Thames
August 19th 1950 – Wolves 2 Liverpool 1 – 50,622
August 23rd 1952 – Wolves 1 Cardiff City 0 – 52,309
August 20th 1955 –West BA 1 Wolves 1 – 45,306 (45,000 Wolves fans)
August 23rd 1958 – Wolves 5 Nottingham Forest 1 – 52,656
August 24th 1963 – Arsenal 1 Wolves 3 – 50,302
August 23rd 1967 – Wolves 3 West BA 3 – 52,438 – Tony “Bummer” Brown punched it in as he later admitted. Phil Parkes was so incensed he almost smacked the referee and was sent off. Waggy went in goal…………….It was quite a night under the lights!
August 23rd 1969 – Wolves 0 Manchester United 0 – 50,873. Wolves had won their first 4 league games and were top of the league. A few weeks later Peter Knowles packed it in and Wolves finished 13th….
August 20th 1977 – Bristol City 2 Wolves 3 – 25,136 – Running battles after the game making our way back to Templemeads and the football special back to Wolverhampton. They threw bricks at us and we threw paving slabs at them. Football violence at its worst.
August 23rd 1986 – Wolves 1 Cambridge United 2 – 6,001. That’s right folks one over 6,000 at the Molineux. However 67,000 claim to have been in attendance…….right!
Well that’s it folks – off to bed see you all tomorrow at Molineux for another heart stopping 90 minutes!!
BOG
Can’t see this one being 0-0 tomorrow. Cardiff are really going to be a tough team to beat but not impossible. We are at home, a big crowd and filthy football will stand us in good stead, we need to defend corners and crosses better than Tuesday, this being the only negative from that night, I would imagine that Cardiff will be hard in the tackles, it’s up to the fans to try and get the ref dishing out a few cards, our key players will be targeted so they must keep their tempers and not get sent off. Wolves to win.
24 August 1963
Arsenal 1-3 Wolves
My first ever match.
I was only 6.
Still one of the best days of my life.
Have noticed a large number of new bloggers posting on here. Great to see, and i hope it is not just because we are playing well and winning. I would like to see you all stay even when the going gets tough.
I am interested in how many do.
No new bloggers, Brompto.
BOG said he was bored so he’s just making up names and posting for fun…………………just like we are gonna score for fun tomorrow, or nearly today over there!!
Hope you’ve rainproofed your tent.
Good point Brompton. That’s the bandwagon factor. I’ve been a consistent blogger here ever since I discovered the site. I’ve stayed through thick and thin, Mad Mick, Clipboard, Solbakken, Dean Shambles, leading to double relegation. Once down in League One I started betting on us for promotion. Paid off first time, then three seasons of losses. Finally I’m thinking I will come out ahead next May as I got my biggest bets on at 16-1 for the title. I could have hedged at simply promotion, but I went for the big one.
MANIC STREET PREACHERS. THE STREREOPHONICS. KATHERINE JENKINS. SHIRLEY BASSEY. GARETH BALE. SUPER FURRY ANIMALS. ROBIN FRIDAY. MAX BOYCE. HUGH WHAT EVER OFF BBC NEWS. IVOR THE FUCKIN ENGINE. Your boys took a fucking massive thrashing. Well probably 2-1 WWFC
Cheese – you missed out JOHN CHARLES, TOM JONES, RICHARD BURTON, MICHAEL SHEEN, GARETH EDWARDS, JPR WILLIAMS, DYLAN THOMAS, DAVID LLOYD GEORGE etc etc!
UTW!
Thats not unusal.
When considering predictions after the fixtures were published, I’d considered 7 pts from first 4 games with this one the banker (yes! I said banker.)
So why change it?
I have no problem with Cardiff per se, as the trip to the Millennium Stadium was my finest away day ever and Colin was involved…
We spanked him then and we’ll spank him again.
Was going to repeat the 2003 win over him @ 3:0 but think “old player rule” could kick in…
Fuck oddi ar brom gorllewinol
PS, anyone think he looks like Mrs Doubtfire?
Ready to go clear on top
I watched Cardiff last week and I have to say they created lots of chances.. in my opinion they were very dominant over villa in midfield and were quick to spray the ball out wide. Their wingers like to cut inside and put the ball into no man’s land. I’m thinking Douglas and Doherty will have to be very defense minded this afternoon as well as having strong support from the centre 3. If nuno is to sit and wait we will do what we do best and hit them on the counter attack quite easily as they play their high line.
MOM boly or saiss
Am loving being able to watch all the games live.
Bit concerned about our defending at set pieces but hopefully we will win this one but it will be tight.
I am predicting that Bright will finally score.
The definition of the word rollercoaster should be rewritten in dictionaries as the emotional journey of a Wolves fan. In recent history, when Fosun acquired Wolves many of us felt a renewed optimism, only for this bubble to be burst by the way Kenny Jacket was treated, and the subsequent appointments and dismissals of Zenga and Lambert, the worrying influence of George Mendes and the haphazard purchase of players, underlined by our poor performances and undistinguished final placement in the Championship table, where it wasn’t until the final few games of the season where our safety in the league was guaranteed.
What a difference this Summer has made. A top class coach, Fosun prepared to put their money where their mouth is and players bought in that would have been beyond any of our wildest dreams a few months ago. And then our new formed team backing up these changes with performances on the pitch which have us all walking around with big smiles on our faces and a spring in our step.
And yet, years of being a long suffering Wolves fan still have me erring on the side of caution. I can’t bring myself to be an out and out optimist; not yet at any rate. Sooner or later we will lose a game or at least drop 2 points, and so, whilst I desperately want our team, a mix of fabulously gifted players and some of the old guard who are playing with renewed confidence and discipline to win, I’m going to go for a hard fought draw. 2-2.
UTW !
I’m sure some will say i have gold/black glasses on but for me this season is like no other i can remember since ever (been going since mid 70’s
in the past we expected mediocracy but wished/prayed for brilliance
we’ve had a few false dawns too
but this year it is different!
Owner established, Chairman appointed with a purpose & living as a local, the established connections (not just mendes – but he & his influonce must be acknowledged), the funds made available, the manager (IMO the most important factor), the quality of the players brought in, the way we’re set up, a full pre-season and a style/quality of football that i genuinely never expected to see before that has Nuno’s piers genuinely & correctly acknowledging.
We will loose a few games & draw some too, but last years win against Roterham would not have got me to renew my season ticket – a spineless win when we where shite
Today, i’m going into the molineux knowing & not in hope that we might play football, get some entertainment & hopefully a further three points
Now being a realist, today could be one where we drop points, but i know the babbies will entertain & we certainly have the skills on the field & bench to win this one comfortably.
Plus we can send Mrs Doutfire back to the valleys looking like hes been sucking a pack of lemons
????????????????????
Need to defend a lot better than on Tuesday – especially with the height and power in Cardiff’s bunch of Neanderthals.
Going to be a tight game but I think that our home crowd will be the deciding factor and will spur us on to a narrow victory.
OODCL
Stu wolf said in an earlier statement that he believes we now have the quality to be able to step up a gear if we have to.
Thats something we haven’t had before this season and i think he is spot on.
We may struggle to cope early on but i believe we will keep a clean sheet from the early onslaught and find that extra gear then quite literally give them and the rest of this division a football lesson
This is not the wolves of old this is the wolves of the future .
Total football.. skill and speed v brawn and power.
R.I.P BRUCIE you were a star
I can see a tight game but these players are good enough to find a way to win. Bonatini to score
Good game..good game………….
Not going to curse our chaps with a win prediction so:
http://www.the42.ie/kevin-foley-interview-3553401-Aug2017/
Good interview with Kevin Foley, good insight during the McCarthy era.
Well worth reading the Foley article.
Could be any combination between 0 0 and 5 5
Can some clever person put words to the theme to the magnificent seven theme, it fits with nunos treble barrel name and to some degree the amount of Portuguese players fielded, it would be a fitting tribute to them and it’s a great tune too, anyway just an idea. Got to go, I have somewhere important to be…come on me babies.

Allowing for a late dubious penalty award 3-1
Same as last season
Another tough game, both teams play a different brand of football. |
This ref is one of the more card happy ones, so I hope the defense are up for it and the lads time their tackles well, especially Saiss. The good news is that Cardiff probably won’t kick us off the park either with a stricter ref.
I think we will edge it if we take our chances crafted from a creative side.
3 days is hardly any time to improve defending set pieces though… so I’m worried, we will need to put away all our chances
As much as I hope we are going to go through the season without living, if we do lose, please not to clogger warnock!!
Can’t look beyond another Wolves win, Cardiff are a good side. But we’re full of confidence at the moment.
Been predicting wins all season so I can’t change even if I wanted to which I don’t
Double bollocks ..thought we couldn’t loose against the Sheep Shaggers..wake me up..
Possibly the worst refereeing display I’ve ever witnessed!
I’ll keep most of my thoughts for the next thread but we were kicked off the park in the first half and out thought for most of the second.
A good ‘Warnocking’ I’d say.
