Late goals swung momentum last weekend.

While Burnley grabbed a last gasp equaliser against Cardiff, Wolves allowed Charlton in to steel victory at the death.
That now means the Clarets arrive at Molineux 4 points above Wolves and the dotted line. Breathing space.
It’s difficult to envisage Sean Dyche’s team going down now, even if we sink them tomorrow. Their goal difference is much healthier than their fellow strugglers, which is as good as another point.
Any result other than defeat should be enough to ensure their mathematical safety. If they’re to get it, they’ll have to do so without Charlie Austin, the man whose scored 28 of their 58 goals this season.
Their away record is poor with just 6 wins and 11 defeats. But as we know from our previous two home matches, form often counts for little in this league.
Wolves
The big decision for Dean Saunders is how to use Bakary Sako. Our talisman is back in contention after a six week lay-off with a hamstring injury. I’m of the opinion he must play, which would hopefully mean a team something like:

That’s the XI I’d like to see on the pitch, whatever the shape of the team. You could push Sigurdarson up front and Hunt out wide or even move Sako into the middle. But that’s the shape I’d go with.
I can’t see an argument not to play Sako. We need to win and he’s our best player. Given that he’ll almost certainly be sold in the summer, what do we have to lose?
There’s a suggestion we could start him from the bench and introduce him later on. But what if we’re chasing the game by then? We need to get in front and win the game. A draw is probably of little to no value.
Predictions
12 people thought we’d lose at the Valley and 5 of those got the scoreline correct too.
Well done to theDOOGooder, Steppenwolfe, Bagsy, colin and BobbaWolf for scooping the maximum 2 points on offer. It’s a single for the other 7.
It has to be a win this weekend, so it must be a win. How’s this for confidence?
4-1.
Up The Wolves.

Cheers for the preview Thomas. I agree with your starting 11… I’m hoping Deano does too.
Baring in mind:
We need to win this or it’s all over.
Burnley beat us 2-0 at their joint.
They are without top scorer Austin.
Sako is back in the picture.
AND…
We haven’t won 2-0 against anyone since at Peterborough in September….
…I’m going for a 2-0 to the Wolves.
And to carry on the optimism, I’m hoping that Sheff Wed put at least 2 past Peterborough without reply. If these things both happen, we’ll all be very happy come 7pm (Peterborough game is a late kick off) tomorrow…. Leaving us needing just a single point to guarantee our Championship status for another season 🙂
UTW!
I’m all predicted out, we will probably win to prolong the agony I don’t know by how many. I think if we lose League one Walsall and Shrewbury await I hope Saunders plays an attacking formation as a draw is just as bad as losing I just carnt see us getting out of this mess, hope I’m wrong ?
Well I have to say I admire your optimism. If Sako starts it is doubtful he will last the 90 minutes so we need some good options on the bench – not much chance of that I fear. With Square-Ball back in the starting line up, and yes I did see he had a shot last week, I can sadly smell a defeat coming our way. The only glimmer of hope for me is that Hunt may just have a blinder – I hope so but realistically I’m going for doom and gloom Wolves 0 – 2 Burnley.
Wight Wolf…. or should it be White Wolf, the white being white flag for surrender before we start…. Sorry I think your all doom and gloom, save it until the end of the season and have some hope
I agree with Thomas, Sako should start and go for the win, maybe a 4 – 0 win is a little over the top I am predicting a 2 – 1 very nervy afternoons win.
UTW
I think playing a clearly not fit Sako is a massive gamble, is a half fit Sako better than a fully fit player I don’t know if he scores the winner then yes, if the game passes him by and is too soon for him then the gamble won’t have worked. Big Big Gamble Dean ?
I’m feeling confident for some reason too.
Wolves 3 Burnley 1
I’m staying positive till rhe end
No arguments with your team Thomas .
I don’t want a safety first start to the game . Let’s get at ’em from the off , then just keep going untill we’re out of sight .Even if we concede , then just keep hammering at the door !!
Not pretty tactically l admit , but if we fail and go down then at least it will be fighting .
Wolves 3 Burnley 1
UTW
I can’t entertain the thought of anything other than 3 Golden points. Whatever XI end up on the pitch doesn’t really matter, they should all be playing for their careers and with a raucous Molineux willing the ball in at one end and out at the other I think we should just edge it.
2-1 the lads
One of my neighbour’s is a Burnley fan and up till last week he thought they would be going down looking at their run in, he also said he couldn’t understand how an ex-Prem team that always showed so much fight could be in the situation that we find ourselves, I hadn’t the heart (or time) to give him an in depth report of or failings this season so I just shrugged the shoulders and tutted…
I am confident this weekend though, I thought we might have got something at Charlton last week and but for a bit of bad luck / poor defending we would have done, so I will go for a win here, hoping we will steamroller them ala Blouse in the first 45 mins to make it a comfortable second half.
Wolves 3 – 0 Burnley
UTW
I agree with the starting lineup although I wont be expecting fireworks from Sako. He’s enigmatic at the best of times, let alone when he’s not really fit. I an see him having an anonymous first half and being replaced at half time. Unfortunately, the policy of not recruiting in an window since the start of the year has led us to a situation where we have insufficient back up for unforeseen injuries.
I think Doyles recent performances have been a real highlight, shades of the player we signed from Reading when he so mightily led the line alone for us in our first season back in the Premier League. I’d liek to see him as close to Sigurdarson as possible as I think they’re technically our most gifted players.
Not wanting to sound mad and I’m aware that this isn’t the time for experimenting but I cant help feeling that Ward would fit that attacking midfielder role better than Hunt, allowing Hunt to be moved back over to the left wing. I think Ward, Doyle and Hunt have a fantastic understanding of each other and would surely present a formidable proposition going forward. Ward has always had a fantasic engine and with options in front and either side of him, the forward turned defender might find a new use as the player Jamie O’Hara could have been.
Wolves 2 – 1 Burnley
I’m off to have a long think about what I’ve just said
I’ve just had a long think about what you’ve said (well, quite long, given my ever shortening attention span).
….What was I talking about?
Oh! Yes.
I think your Ward/Hunt/Doyle point is quite a good one.
Steady on Clive, I don’t mean playing Ward at left back!
Trouble is, Henry is the obvious one to drop to make that happen and I don’t think that Deån will do that.
going for a 0-0 or 1-1,serious thought has to be given to burnley’s need for say 1 point which represents a good trip for them as it will maintain the current gap between us and them, sako must start as an earlier comment suggested it’s no good us trailing and they camp themselves up defending a lead, looking at division 2 table last night it’s incredible to think of the possibility of visiting some of those grounds next season to think it was 24/25 years ago when we won the old 3rd division I remember going to port vale/sheff utd away and here we are again with history repeating itself, there are going to be wolves fans currently under the age of 30 reading this who have never experienced this 3rd tier so it was one thing dropping out of the premiership but this in terms of steve morgan you have crossed the line for not spending in jan transfer and you will never be forgiven for allowing this to happen
Great line up, hopefully, knuckle head headed manager will run with Thomas’s line up we will see.
I’m going with a Wolves 1 – Burnley 0 win. It will be a nail biter to the end I’m afraid but, as long as we dont give up and the end and lose focus, we can pull this one off.
Of course it seems that everytime a team comes to Molineux without their best player, guess what, we normally get thumped.
ilovewolves, you’re are dead on with your comments on Morgan. I wonder what he’ll do if we go down another league!!!!! Sell, give it up or, sack both manager and Pie man and start afresh…
Wolves 1 Burnley 1
If I was Sako, I’d preserve myself so that I can definitely be sold in the summer and say “I’m not fit, boss. I can’t play.”
We’re going down…
Wolves 1-2 Burnley
I will countenance nothing less than a convincing win tomorrow.
The Molineux attendance will be boosted by the arrival of the big guns!
Martin, myself, Mrs Martin and Mrs Myself will add our, not inconsiderable, vocal and tactical armoury to the proceedings.
Even now I am teaching the present Mrs DOOGooder the unexpurgated words to ‘The Liquidator’, ‘Hi Ho Woverhampton’ and ‘Who’s the bastard in the black?’.
3-1 to us!
So to the last home game (ever ?).
Burnley need a point.
We haven’t drawn for ages.
1-1 looks favorite and all down to needing a win at Brighton in the last match.
No team with 55 points has ever been relegated.
Nice looking team Thomas .. it pretty well picks itself. I’m not sure about Sako starting tho’ because if he lasts but 10 mins a) the plans will be disrupted and b) the excuses will be out straight away for playing him in the first place. Second half sub for me to keep the Burnley defence on the back foot a bit.
That said I just hope our old boy Vokes doesn’t shaft us with a goal.
I’m going for a Wolves 2-1 victory.
I’m going to lift a glass tonight and drink to a victory tomorrow and for Dave Wagstaffe’s speedy recovery from his heart problems.
Oh! Waggy!
How we could do with you now!
Knew I should have read all posts before saying no ones mentioned Waggy! Nice one mate! What a great winger old gold n black through and through!
I feel so let down by this group of players. They have been hopeless for the best part of 15 months now.
Isn’t it Pay-Back time ? Two games, two wins required.
Play with some pride.
Wolves 2 Burnley 0
I’m sorry if I appear to be hogging this blog at the moment but I shall be leaving for Wolverhampton soon and want to make this point before I go.
Recently, every time I read a Deån Saunders interview I cringe.
This in the E&S today:-
“The main thing is we stay up and we’re in with a great chance,” he said.
“We’ve got to win two games and no disrespect to the teams we’re playing, it’s not Man United and Arsenal we’ve got to beat, it’s Burnley and Brighton, and we’re capable of doing it.
“We’ve 10 points from the last five home games, so there’s nothing to fear.”
Saunders plans to have watchers at the other games telling him the scores so he can make substitutions accordingly.
“We’re having people at the games and we’ll be on the phone,” he said.
“If the score’s level and the other teams are losing, there are decisions we have to make based on what they’re doing.”
Meanwhile, Saunders hit out at the timing of rivals Peterborough playing Sheffield Wednesday at 5.20pm tomorrow in the live TV game.
“Peterborough can watch the results come in and know exactly what they need to do,” he said,
“They’ve got an advantage and if you’re depending on results and all the other teams around them got beat, a point isn’t a bad result for both of them. But if we win, it puts the pressure on them.
“It’s not fair or right but we sold our soul to TV a long time ago and they prevail so we’ve just got to get on with it.”
Well, bloody well get on with it then! (This is me now).
We need a bloody win!
It doesn’t bloody well matter what the other bloody teams around us do!
We need a bloody win!!!!!
can you be manager please..you put that so well 🙂 where are you off to? sandwell ? only joking
read his drivel also. Agree with you entirely screw everyone else Deano just needs to devote his time and energy on getting us to win (each week he appears more of a tosser) UTW PFW
Do or die.
3-0.
Glad to see I have fallen down the prediction league….I was only doing well because I was predicting
defeats. After a while I began to feel disloyal.
Think Martin will need his listening ears on as DOOGooder has a lot to say at the moment.
Yes to have Waggy on the wing….but we haven’t and I fear the worst.
Can’t make it on Saturday as my back is preventing me from the 360 mile round trip….Probably a
blessing in disguise………
Crossing everything as I say……..
Wolves 2 Burnley 1
My heart says we’ll do it, but Sean Dyche scares me. He looks (and sounds) like a man who would bury his team six-feet under if they don’t fight to the end of the season. On this basis I’m going to say 1-1, which I fear isn’t good enough.
3-1 The Wolves.
I spoke with Dean Saunders last night who was very open.
Conclusion. Blame Morgan.
The end.
was that how it came accross ? it is an absolute shambles isnt it tatd ? can you imagine the scenario if he owned liverpool…here lies our owner..
It was what he said mate. He was told when he was interviewed he would be supported in the transfer window, he wasn’t. He only could describe Morgan as ‘enthusiastic’.
im feeling really really confident …….. bugger – its gone !! wolves 0-4 hovis . i truly hope im wrong but what i saw at charlton destroyed any hope i had left..WTID
I have to hope … Wolves 2-1 Burnley.
Come on Wolves!
A nervy 2-1 to us.
Would just like to flag this on Twitter, when has a player who never signed for us full time shown so much support….why didn’t we take him again…would love him in our midfield tomorrow.

UTW
It must be Sunday already, coz I’ve just been reading the prayer blog….again!
The only reason Hunt, Doyle and Ward have a great understanding between them is coz they are all from the Irish bogs and speak funny.
I cant make it to the possible last home match ever at The Mol, I will let my memories keep me going.
We will lose, and thousands of Wolves fans will hold a wake on the nudist beach at Brighton next week.
We all want us to do well, but this current crop of employees, from owner down to dickhead in the ticket office are a complete and utter load of shit, and should be sacked after the last kick of the season.
If Morgan has any balls at all, which I seriously doubt, then everyone under contract should be paid up and fucked off, and a complete set of new hires brought in.
As we all know this will never happen, and I agree with the post above: Morgan will NEVER be forgiven for the total shambles that is now our once great and proud club.
Fuck you Morgan, and fuck you greasel.
If I ever have the happy experience of meeting either of you someday, it wont be for you two pricks.
Wolves 1 Burnley 2
I am going so it better be a win and I will take 1-0! By the way very few mentions for Waggy. Get well soon mate!
That a particular specified event or coincidence will occur is very unlikely. That some astonishing unspecified events will occur is certain.
Wolves 2 Burnley 1
Interesting that Sako injury prompted a spell of good results late in the season, but I think that is because the other players on the field knew how we’d struggle without him and (temporarily) pulled their socks up. I think if he plays he will make a difference, after all he only needs a bit of space up to 30 yards out to make it. We’ve got players fighting for their careers tomorrow and I love to stay optimistic, especially knowing that anything but a win will not do.
I’m going to roll the dice here and predict a goal fest..4-2 to Wolves
UTW
I have been predicting wins every week.(It’s like an illness) Sitting in the bottom three with two games to go and living in oz I can no longer help by singing and yelling from the sidelines.
So Wolves 0 Burnley 2, there I’ve done my bit it’s over to you boys.
Totally agree with your team selection Thomas, dont think Sako will last full 90 min.
Anything other than a victory and we are f—ed .
Wolves to win 2-1
COME ON ME BABIES
I can’t see anything other than a Wolves win, given what is riding on the game.
3-0 win please Wolves.
Well, that’s two of us going for 3-0 then. If we don’t win comfortably we’re doomed; can’t believe really that our ability to beat Brighton is doubted, but that’s were we are. The other results are not very likely to help though, so even a win tomorrow may not be enough.
My heart says we’ll win,but my head is all over the place,f##k it i’m going for a 2-0 to me babbies.
They owe us big time for the 2 wins we may require,so come on wolves do it for the fans ,but above all do it for your selves….show ya metal.
To whoever may win the prediction league, can I just say “well done, can you come over to the States and read my tea leaves?”.
Predicting results, never mind scores in this crazy 2nd division is all but impossible, especially in these last dying moments of the season.
I have predicted wins all along as I have said I can’t bring myself to predict a loss…..I’m very superstitious like that. But guess what, we lost the majority.
Based on that logic, I am going to predict a loss and just hope that my form remains true, and we hammer them.
Wolves 1 ( Devries 90+8mins )- Burnley 5
Positive head on, and no, I havent been on the mild either.
We will win and win handsomely. At least 2-1, but I’ll say we will win 3-0!!
And then get ready for the Deano ‘my plans have come to fruition, I knew it would only be a matter of time before we played the Premiership footy I know we can’ drivel and bs!!
That looks a great team to me, I can’t believe were in this mess. Please to god get out there and prove it.
Irish eyes smiling?
Wolves 3 (Hunt, Doherty, Doyle) Burnley 1
Peterborough 0 Wednesday 1
On to Brighton, still needing a point.
3-0 win, cam’t even contemplate anything else
No point in predicting anything other than a win. After all it’s not going to make me feel any better if we lose and I’ve predicted the correct score. I really enjoyed the last 3-2 so will go for that again, though we really need to do better and improve our goal difference by more than just one.
Will be interesting to find out who else around me has renewed as we’re all first years really in different seats in the Stan Cullis.
Worried that talk of Sako playing (or him actually playing) is as much about putting him in the shop window and making sure that potential buyers remember his availability (or is that too cynical?). Hasn’t kicked a ball until this week, and is suddenly OK to play?
Obviously, a win is vital, so not expecting the result to make supporters happy / relieved…
Wolves 1 – Burnley 1
Wolves 0 Burnley 1…
Hope I’m wrong, but a win will just be delaying the inevitable.
There is a distinction between supporting Wolves and supporting Redrow United.
At the moment, to me, the club is run for Redrow’s benefit.
Whilst it remains that way we will descend for Redrow has got the ‘properties’ and whatever division we are in a new owner will have to buy Redrow’s land to re-own Wolves…
What a shambles!
Sorry for the pessimism, but even if we stay up, whose going to want to come and play for us?
lose – we’re down, win – we’re still probably down knowing our luck.
Im feeling optimistic – Wolves 3-1 Burnley
Come on you Wolves!
Wolves 0-1 Burnley
This one DS will be instructing players to play at extreme low risk and put all the money in defence. Very few goals as a result, but I’m afraid a late mistake (likely by Henry the punter) will prevent a clean sheet and leave us in relegation position.
I live this club like nothing else ever, it’s always been in my life no matter what. A constant . If we go down we go down. I will always love wolves. We all will.please win 2-1 . If not , we’ll still love the club
Soon I will start on my journey to God’s holy place. It was a last moment decision but I felt the “need” to be at the Mol today. I have had a calling, Wolves need me today. So despite my ever increasing pain with a nasty bunion I will battle through this, take in the atmosphere and cheer the Wolves until I am unable to speak.
I will not even consider them loosing today, Notwithstanding the vast amount of money it is costing me and I really can’t afford it, they owe me a result, they owe me to stay up, damn they just owe me.
Billy Wright stand, area 8 Row A seat 0221 – if you see me give me a wave, I will be easy to spot as I will be supporting my 60th birthday present which is this season’s away shirt, oh, and I will be wearing a baseball cap but not a Wolves one a Barbour waterproof, don’t want my head getting wet. Prior to taking my seat you will find me outside the stadium in a cloud of smoke getting as much nicotine I can into my body to keep me drugged up.
Oh, my prediction is……………
Wolves 3 – 1 Burnley
3-1 to Wolves and then a great day out in sunny Brighton where we secure safety on goal difference.
In half hours time i will be making my last 344 mile journey of the season, the majority of which have been miserable due to our poor performances throughout. Today though i think we might actually get a result and give ourselves a chance come may 4th away at brighton (which i’ll be at)
Wolves 2-0 Burnley
After last weeks game it’s difficult for me to be positive about us getting a result today. But for the sake of our season I’ll predict and hope for a 2-1 win.
Every drop of optimism has been drained out of me so I’m going for more inept performances, clueless tactics and a 3-1 win for Burnley. I just hope I’m wrong.
I think Burnley will play for a point. If Saunders goes for a safety first policy this could produce a bit of a stalemate! Slow first half and nervous stuttering second…capped with Sako coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes and doing what we all know he is capable of (not giving away penalties) and slotting in a sublime winner that keeps us sweating for another week! 1-0 win for us…then off to the seaside!
UTW
Woke up worrying, thought I’d come here for some solace but its made my jitters worse!
Can we just skip to 5 o clock please, I can’t cope!
Yeah, nervous as hell in the morning. Took advantage of the 2 hour time difference to UK and started on the beer 11:30 EET. Kinda relaxed as of writing 🙂
@Sleachy: It’s 5 o’clock. (actually it’s half nine, but the news hasn’t got any better since)
You’re not going to like it here.
Can we jump back to 11:35 am please?
3-2 to the Wolves
Typical Wolves, lets do things the hard way leaving it to the last game.
Well if we can`t keep a clean sheet against this lot we deserve to go down, so its 2-0 for me, and a prayer fornext weekend.
Infectious choice there – 4-1! Why the hell not??
This is make-or-break…lose and – well, don’t wanna think about it…
FUCK OFF DS…sorry
There must be a few more fuck off’s out there!
You pay peanuts Morgan and what do you get. The Wolves.
First prediction I got right all season.
Was gonna write something deep and meaningful, but its all been said before.
And to be perfectly honest I don’t really give a shit to this sorry sack of shit “football club” which was once our pride and joy.
Fuck ’em all
I’m outta here.
Wot a disgrace. From the chairman, directors, manager, players and scumbag fuckwit fans that fought with stewards, kicked the hoardings and smashed the dugout. The whole club stinks.
Had enough, gutted beyond words….
Bye, Clive from Houston. Don’t forget to swear as you leave.
Well, we’ve been here before, haven’t we? We’ll just have to hope Albion oblige with another Steve Bull, Robbie Dennison and Andy Thompson trio of transfers to us.
Dean Saunders has been a complete disaster as manager. His tactics are neanderthal at best and non existent at worst. He and most of the squad must go before next season.
Had we kept and backed Solbakken, I doubt we’d have torn up any trees, but I don’t imagine we’d have been relegated and we’d at least be playing football instead of the current shambles that passes for a performance.
My anger is not directed at either Morgan or Moxey, without the money there would be no club at all and we’ve no God given right to success. We may not have spent money on players we needed, but we haven’t spent nothing either.
The experienced players in the squad have let us down badly this year – there has been a lack of professionalism and some of the performances have been a disgrace.
The reality is that too many good players have been let go whilst inferior players have been kept – Nenad Milijas, Adlene Guedioura, Dave Jones, Mark Davies, Keith Andrews, Andrew Surman could all be mentioned.
And why has Slawomir Peszko not played, who was Georg Margreitter and why is Eggert Jonson still with the club?
It would be the miracle to end all miracles if we are celebrating at the end of the Brighton game.
Agree with you Kevin, as usual you make a lot of sense. The players are more responsible than anyone, but the ‘leadership’ has been an embarrassment.
The only happy people this season will be the dugout manufacturers, boy they’ve taken some stick!
So your anger is not directed at Moxey and Morgan? How many relegations will it take before you realise where the responsibility lies? Three years of profits, most of it shifted to Wolves Property Ltd,to pay for the stand, about £10m surplus in player trading this season, plus £16m parachute money, and yet they fail to sign anybody in Jan.This is despite the previous manager publicly stating he needed new players. They also failed to back the current manager in the loan market, when it was obvious another striker and midfielder was required. We will be relegated because the quality of the squad was not good enough, sides like Burnley and Huddersfield have outclassed us.Responsibility must rest with the owner and chief executive, given money was available but not adequately released to the manager.
We’d got players of enough experience and quality to have comfortably remained in the Championship had the team performed at 75% of their potential. This total disaster of a season is down to the manager and the players – not Morgan and Moxey.
What Moxey and Morgan didn’t do was ditch McCarthy early enough and spend money to get in an experienced and capable manager with Premier League pedigree. We should have made Curbishley or similar an offer they couldn’t refuse when there was still enough of the season left for them to have a chance at turning the tide.
The irony was that having doomed us to relegation by continuing with McCarthy for too long and then making the hapless appointment of Connor we tackled the Championship without the manager who was best suited for such a campaign – McCarthy!
Kevin, Do not agree that the current squad was good enough. For a start when we lost Fletcher,it was obvious we lacked anyone who could win the ball up front, and we lacked his goals. We also lacked pace up front, look at how much better Huddersfield strikers were. Then we have midfield ,one that has not scored in four years, and he won’t score many in the next 4.Then the other midfielder due to irreversible injury problems is playing at half pace. Both these players needed replacing. If we had kept Milijas and Guedioura we might have got away with it.But Moxey got rid of them.I accept the keepers and maybe the back four, although slow on the turn ,should have been good enough. But overall the squad was inadequate in key areas and this was not addressed and now we are paying a heavy price .
What do you base your high views of the players on? That they existed in the prem and finished 20th or were the weakest players in the promotion team? It is this view that these players are good enough which is why we have been relegated.. deluded.
his hatred of brother clive meant he took his eye off the ball..not unlike our sunday league players with their laces tied together 🙂
He hasn’t played for one reason only MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. And I carnt believe you think M and M are not to blame does the words leadership, direction ring a bell Mogans has always but football secound his main aim when he got his hands on Wolves was PLANNING PERMISSION which he got for the houses at Compton, Stan Cullis Stand ( which we didn’t need ) the land by Molinuex Hotel. He’s a developer pure and simple if he pulls out tomorrow he’s still left with with prime land in Wolverhampton for development. I know friends who work for the Council and they say it would of taken him years if at all to get planning in W’ton if he wasn’t owner of the Wolves . Do you think he’s a Wolves fan he’s not and never will be he’s a Liverpool fan, do you think he would of under invested in them in there hour of need as he has done with Wolves I don’t think so would he still be there in charge of the Reds if he had got them in this state, no they’d of hung him by now from the nearest lamp post. Wise up fellow. If you are genuine you would not be blogging such rubbish.
I I I I should have known better. Despite my Blogg yesterday I thought those overpaid mercenaries would a least make the last game mean something. Can it get worse yes it can because this time next year we could be staring at League Two football. At least in the 80’s we didn’t have any money but 3 years in the Premier League what £150 million plus Morgan has not one stread of credibility, and as for his stooge Moxey well ” I was only obeying orders ” has been used before and he is even more culpable, he’s the one giving advice surpposidly. Let’s hope the new strip will bring us a new owner, chief ex: and yes a manager. Saunders was always out of his depth.
Only last February it was said “Chairman spending money on someone that will improve us and be a building block to NEXT season”
I remember playing Chester in the old div 4 i think it ended in a draw, anyway who gives a **** at least then a team had been built – Steve Bull Andy Mutch & co. what we have here is a complete disaster. Little Hope.
Swapping divisions with Doncaster.
Nice one, Dean. Please leave.
He might go back to Doncaster. How ironic / insulting would that be?
Disgrace – Morgan, Moxey, players & idiots running onto the pitch to fight with stewards and cause damage.
Saunders was out of his depth and I don’t blame him for the relegation as the stench of it was before he got there, but he needs to leave. Solbakken looked like he was taking us down anyway and if reports can be believed, the overpaid players just didn’t want to play for him.
Mass clearout required or this time next season it will be welcome to Div 2.
Sacking McCarthy was never going to be a solution in itself we needed to attract a top manager and we didnt do that.
I agree, was his name Curbishley …
That is it then. We are nearly in the record books. In the FA museum in Manchester there is a large poster that proudly proclaims,’Wolves Champions of the World’.Now they will say’ the only club in England to be relegated from the top two Divisions in consecutive seasons, twice’.I am sure the PR people will be able to deliver a suitable poster for the Molineux museum.Well done Steve and Jez you have joined the legends that were the Bhatti Bros.PS if you want to be successful in football you have to be successful on the pitch. Some of us tried to tell you this obvious fact ,before you knocked down Sir Jack’s North Bank and before you brought such shame on the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Well said- let that be the final word!
This was always on the cards. The bottom line is that many of the players are not good enough to be professional footballers. And therein lies the problem of the clearout that everyone wants. Noone will want these players. They all have massive contracts that we can’t afford to pay off.
The parachute payment only funds the wage bill for 6 months. The cash made by selling players and making a profit has been spent on an asset called the North Bank. There is no more cash.
Can’t pay the wages = Bankruptcy and liquidation. No Portsmouth recovery for us because the new rules won’t allow anyone to put money into the club.
Its over people. That was the last game at Molineux.
And if you think it can’t be because everything is going on as normal, then consider all the travel companies that sell holidays in the morning and are bankrupt in the afternoon.
And you know what, as this is my second time through this scenario, I think I would rather they went under so I can choose a better team to support. I ain’t gonna live long enough to see us back in the big time.
While we are rightly heaping criticism within the club unless it becomes a more level playing field the national game may eventually face a mass desertion of fans in some regions like the midlands.
probably right there Colin.
So little time with (Andy) “Mutch” work to be done.
Oh god its cork on willow and all that soon, never been a fan i must admit, but the beer flows so arms could be twisted…
As for the games demise there is another way out.
Ok the stairway could do with a lick of paint, but have you ever watched paint dry? the thing is it does exactly what it says on the tin..with no disappointments all-round.
Unless Morgan has his own brand.
Hopefully us Midlands Club fans still support our teams by attending live matches.
I don’t count the Budweiser-swilling, pub-stooled, Sky TV moon-struck muppets who “support” one of the multimillionaire corporate merchandising franchises that have body-snatched the famous football clubs that used to be Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and co. as football fans at all.
I still dream of the Seventies when Wolves, Albion, Blues, Villa, Coventry, Stoke, Derby, Forest, Leicester and even Notts County competed with the best in the top half of the First Division.
Proper Football Clubs in a proper Football League.
give it 5 years and none of those teams will be in the top division – and neither will Villa.
London/north monopoly
True uefa pressi Plantti surpossed make the game more even how many teams in England win Prem 4 at most same in Germany, 3 in Holland, 2 in Spain, 2 in France, 3 may be in Italy and oh 1 in Scotland well done Platti
1) I’m unsure whether DS is right for us.
2) I’m sure Morgan isn’t.
3) Anyone know a Russian gazzillionaire?
4)if you were a dickhead who kicked stewards and caused damage to the ground. Please go and “support” another team.
5) In a couple of weeks time it’s the 25th anniversary of the Sherpa Van Trophy win. Against you know who. Oh the irony.
Wolves till I die and all that. Sad, sad day.
i just fear for the next instalment of wolves fc…everything wolves fc is rotten and we could disapear if we go down . i wouldnt let my daughter go today as i thought it would kick off but to be honest i though it would have been worse.. thanks steve and jez you idiots!!!!!
Why is it that Barnsley,Peterborough,Huddersfield,Sheff Wed,Blackburn have all managed to pull out results that have given themselves a chance of staying up while we manage to fuck it up time and time again. I do not condone the behaviour of some but I understand the feelings of the fans we have been badly let down over the last two years. The continuous waffle from the players and manager this year has made it worse if they did all their talking on the pitch then we might not be in this mess. As for Morgan and Moxey lets hope they have had their fun and made some money and now just piss off.
Where does that leave us I really don’t know,a complete rebuild from top to bottom I wonder if we have the stomach for it.
But my overriding feeling right now is embarassment!
I’m not embarrassed, I’ll never be embarrassed for supporting My home town team Wolverhampton Wanderers born in Wolverhampton im not as the rest of you are not supporting the team from Manchester or the kings road because they are doing well, I support the team from Waterloo road, I’m angery, bitter, disillusioned and thoroughly pissed off but I’ll buy the new strip and wear it on the beach and when I’m walking round St Ives this summer holiday and look people in the eye, no ill never be embarrassed about where I come from and my team.
Don’t buy the new kit. The club is bankrupt (no cash). They’ll never play in that kit
That will make the kit very rare will fetch 200 quid on ebay.
not a good look with speedos:)
never embarrassed … we are wolves!! i was speaking to an arsenal fan this week and to hear him moaning and bleating that they are really poor just did it for me ¬! at least we will be supported by REAL wolves fans even if its division 3 ! just try to enjoy the ride
Here’s what I suggest we do next:
1) Call Morgan’s bluff. if he is a man of honour with WWFC’s best interests at heart invite him to put the club up for sale for £10 and a committment to investment on the playing side of £30m (i.e the same deal Sir Jack offered). if he is not prepared to do that he is self-evidently only in it to rinse the club of money and opportunity to promote redrow.
2) Get rid of Moxey as part of the significant redundancy programme that will inevitably follow confirmation of our relegation to League 1.appoint a new COO and CFO for maximum £300k pa combined
3) Give Saunders and his backroom staff a clear objective of top 2 by end of October or dismissal. Give him full support in the summer to shape the squad he wants but it must be financed from sale of the current playing squad. If he doesn’t like the terms dismiss him immediately.
4) Reconstitute the board inc. a Director of Football and those who know and understand the DNA of WWFC e.g Graham Turner
5) Put the whole of the current playing squad in a room with their agents and 2 doors. They have one hour to choose which door to walk through. Door 1 means they are committed to WWFC and will be the core part of the squad for next season but on the understanding that they will take a 50% cut in their contracts for the period we are in League 1. Door 2 means they do not wish to modify their exisitng contracts but they will immediately be put up for sale and will never play for WWFC first team again.
6) Prepare for the new season with the cancer cut from the club and with a band of brothers who are committed to the future of WWFC
The whole squad walk through door 2 and noone wants to buy them – what then ?
Line them up against a wall and shoot the useless fuckers.
Of course, that is a possibility (albeit an unlikely one given some players would have a re-sale value/appeal e.g. Sako, Sigurdarson etc). However, if it did happen I would :
1) look to do a “contract cancelled by mutual consent” deal with those on less than 12 months remaining 2) those that are low transfer value/high wages – look to offload them on frees and/or subsidise their wages to propsective clubs 3)those that have some transfer value/high wages – play a game of brinksmanship with them/their agents as every day they are not playing football, their careers are disappearing. O’hara and Johnson are prime examples of this. you might say it doesn’t matter to them as they have made their money and can sit out their contracts, which is true and so why you would any such player within 100 miles of your training ground? 4) replenish the squad with your u21s and academy kids- they could do no worse than the “senior pros” who have taken us down twice in 2 years, could they and every game they played would increase their market value.
No I’m not embarassed to be a wolves fan,my home town team born (New Cross Hospital) and bred and having moved around different parts of the country with plenty of chance to support someone else I have stayed loyal even in Div 4. But if you are not embarassed by the stupid decisions that Morgan and Moxey have made that have no football based logic at all then you must have a thicker skin than me. But I admire the fact that you can still pull on the shirt on a beach in cornwall and I will do the same in dorset we surely deserve better than this………..
On such a bad day great to read so many considered and constructive views. I will always be a Wolves fan whatever happens.
not if they go bust you won’t
Perveperv we aint going bust !
i wouldnt be so sure about that !
Well lets see if we do thats Morgan out.
problem is that morgan made some bad investments inc at wolves … there aint any money for anything and with players on long contracts and some on huge wages it just excacerbates the problem. we are in an awful position all round my young cloin
40 million wages bill. 16m parachute. Where’s the other 24 million coming from ?
No prize money
No TV money
No players who can find another club.
Sponsers deals income cut
New rules say income has to cover wage bill WITHOUT money from owners.
Can’t be done
Liquidation.
It is certainly a possibility pferdpferde & wish, retrospectively, I had the courage to put a £10 on us going down when you suggested it.
We were 40/1 then.
It’s a shambles but will be interesting to see the state of the club at the beginning of next season.
As you say, possibly a state of liquidation.
Well thank god it’s all over, at least we can now start to mourn the passing of this once great club. The only satisfaction I can take out of this surrender is Moxey will surely resign or better still sacked and Morgan sells up to TATA. Group who wave their magic money making stick at this sick club of ours and turn it back into a half decent club.
Is the report true that Johnson was spotted drunk as a lord at the darts show in Birmingham during the week, just days before the most important match this season, if so it just shows what contempt this bunch have for us the supporters and club.
The championship is a dog eat dog division. We may now get the breathing space we need for a change in direction. It was a platform for double promotions for Norwich and Southampton. Am i Edward Shotton in disguise !?
I wholeheartedly suppoort those fans who went on the pitch and if a steward got it the way – more fool him/her! Enough’s enough. The problem is that too many Wolves fans are moaning about Moxey and Morgan but do nothing about it. The 500 or so who were on the pitch were demonstrating against Moxey and Morgan – if you don’t support them that can only mean you are on the side of those two leaches! There are many ways to skin a rat or in our case two rats. Please don’t let a steward getting a slap or the dugout busted again confuse matters here. All who part with hard earned cash and walk through those turnstiles have a right in the currentl climate to vent fustrations in whatever way they feel! We are in a bad way on and off the pitch. Morgan without a shadow of doubt will walk away very much richer that he came and the fault lies fairly and squarely with Sir Jack! He couldn’t sell the club so he just gavce it away to the first crook that came along! Is there any way that he or his business take the club back? I’m completely gutted and have resigned myself to another 20 years of hurt to follow! I hate Morgan and Moxey. I wish to god I had balls the size of Al Capone!!!!
Incognito – You are talking absolute rubbish.
Sutton Wolf agree with every point you make except 3. Saunders doesn’t have what it takes I am afraid.
I am 47 years old and have been a season ticket holder since I was 18. I cried when my children were born. I cried when Wolves were relegated 27/04/13.
Morgan get out of my city, my community and my club. You are a disgrace!
Someone on here tonight has turned my stomach even more. No Wolves fan will need it spelling out, though that would be difficunt. It it because I fear its the truth?
Nah, we had a low prem wage bill. It has now been reduced by prior arrangement. Yes its going to be tough but are we going to go bust? Nope.
Rejoice wolves fans our future starts now. We have some good kids coming through and its going to be great seeing them do so.
Maybe Zele will get a game. Have we found his level?
I agree our future does start here with a clear out and some fresh hungry kids hopefully, the big questions are;
1) Is Saunders the man to do it
2) If not is it too hopefull for Curbishley to do the re-building project with the M&Ms full backing.
3) Is Morgan going to get proper footballing council by appointing someone like Graham Taylor has some form of director.
4) Are the morons who keep calling for Morgans goint to shut up – better the devil you know
Given Morgans record mate I think it’s a bit silly calling people morons who don’t wish his ownership to continue. He had Curbishley on a plate and didn’t sign him.
There are right and wrong ways to go about things, you dont invade the pitch a rip up the dug outs. And i dont think it is silly not to want a return to the Bhatti days.
Mate
Sorry if calling you ‘mate’ offended you….. Really I am.
If you were calling the people who invaded the pitch morons then that’s your opinion and I happen to agree.
To call everyone who doesn’t think Morgan is fit for purpose a Moron is wrong.
Give me one thing that he has done right – I’ll give you 10 he’s done wrong. He might want what’s right but he can’t get it right.
And I don’t want to talk on anyone’s behalf but I’m pretty sure that nobody wants a return to the Bhatti days (no extensive research has been completed to assume this opinon)
Dave H.
Thats fair enough, my moron quote was aimed at those invading the pitch.
The one thing that he has done right was buying wolves in the first place, is initial stratergy was right to improve the stadium and training facilities, then every decision after that has been wrong.
The man needs proper council, not the lynch mob, if he does not seek that then he needs to go.
Ridiculous statement dave h.
Morgan built the stand before the team.
It was for his benefit not the fans.
Why would anyone with an ounce of intelligence think Morgan cares for Wolves, other than as a subsidiary of Redrow?
I think the long term plan was to increase revenue by larger gates which would should have allowed for greater team investment.
I agree he did not spend enough on the team in the short term and has made some dodgy decisions which I think are through bad advise, that is why he needs a football director, such Graham Taylor or Butch Wilkins someone of that ilk with a footballing brain.
I do not believe Morgan is out to ruin Wolves, proof will be next season, he will either go as you would wish or he will put things right.
I have given up giving predictions on the matchdays, so as not to jinx my team. Yesterday I was sure would be our day and we would beat Burnley and take it to the last day. Time for everyone at the club in the next few months what decisions are needed to move us forward. Saunders and Stalle have been given the poisend chalice. Players unwilling to accept new ideas and change or simply not good enough. Whoever is left after the cull. We need football minded people, we don’t need knee jerk reactions. I like the 2 doors idea. The future has to be our youngsters and our fans, together we must move on. Long away from home but it still hurts.
Kind of puts the Stale bashing in perspective though. I’m still gutted we let him go – could’ve been the start of something big.
Providing we can clear out thr dross, Johnson, O’hara et al, we can have a fresh start with some of the kids. We have to start by apologising to Danny Bhath for not giving him a game in front of our 2 clown centre halves when he is the best centre half at the club. We have to get him signed up.
Make no mistake though, this is a long long road back.
I tried to put a positive spin on the events of yesterday to my son. We have been here before and some of the best times watching Wolves were in the old 3rd and 4th division. Mind you we did have a certain Steve Bull to help us along the way.
Once the pain subsides we have to move on, regroup and use our academy players as the bedrock to put some pride back into the club. First thing though is Morgan and Moxey have to depart.
Since so many people on here don’t believe that under the new fair play rules that we are not bankrupt , can someone explain where the 40 million for wages is going to come from ?
Does anyone know which players are out of contract ?
I believe Doherty is one and I think Danny Batth is another. Did SEB sign a new contract ?
These will be the only reductions to the wage bill as noone will want these players…. oh except blues who will now resign Johnson -him having completed the task of getting us relegated twice.
Err, it’s £25 million for the wage ball. Where did you pluck £40 million out of?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2285805/The-Midlander-Why-Wolverhampton-Wanderers-look-set-relegation-Championship.html
Still even at £25 million it’s way too much for a Div 1 team to cope with.
More info here regarding wages.
Johnson on £25,000
Doyle & Hunt on £16,000
O’Hara on approx £20,000

Just heard Dean being interviewed on Talk Sport. He is not the most eloquent of interviewees. It would appear he is staying on as manager. He was talking about changing the club from top to bottom, introducing a winning mentality etc.
Not looking forward to next season.
