I was sat at a bar in Cyprus with a group of fellow Wolves supporters watching the Southampton game and we all agreed.
Total cack.
The goals conceded, particularly the first and the third – were just so poor and unlike Nuno’s Wolves.

Those gifts coupled with a familiar yet irritating lack of cutting edge in the final third made for a maddening afternoon.
As always, there were some decent passages of play in between, but with the personnel in the team you’re always going to get that. Where it mattered at both ends though, they were lacking.
We definitely need a result to lift the mood after Wembley and even though we’re playing perhaps our biggest bogey team, this is a great opportunity to get it.
Brighton
Talking of semi-final hangovers, I suspect Chris Hughton thought his team could bounce back from their own Wembley heartache with 6 points from home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff to all but guarantee safety.
Zero points and 7 goals conceded has left them in a whole heap of trouble.

They remain 2 points above Cardiff with a game in hand, but after this one, they’ve still got to play Tottenham, Arsenal and on the final day – Man City.
Getting turned over at Molineux would put a huge amount of importance on their other more winnable game at home to Newcastle next weekend.
I fancy Cardiff will get at least one result from their remaining four games (Fulham away and Palace at home are good fixtures) so the Seagulls need to put a few points on the board.
Based on our recent woes and generally awful record against struggling teams, this is a massive game for them.
Anthony Knockaert is a notable absentee after getting sent off against Bournemouth, which is a blow for a team who don’t create many chances.

The away end
Some views lifted from a popular Brighton forum:
Personally would go 4-1-4-1 as Wolves at home is tough on its own but they have something to prove after recent results and who better to get a reaction against than poorly Albion. Might as well bring in some U23’s as subs as they surely can not do any worse.
a draw against Wolves and a scrappy win against Newcastle. So long as we do that, we’ll stay up. But **** me it would have been easier to just have beaten Cardiff…
No hope, no chance. We won’t get another point this season. I’ve accepted it. We are in such freefall and so far off the required standard that it is simply impossible to turn this round in five games with the same personnel. It does make me laugh that people are still so detached from reality that they’re expecting us to beat Wolves and/or Newcastle. Wolves are far better than us and Newcastle have only lost one game away from home against non-top six teams all season. It’s a case of how many will they want to win by!
Wolves
The lads have been sunning it up in Marbella again this week, which normally has the desired effect. I suspect Nuno might freshen up the starting eleven a bit too.

We should take more risks and go for the jugular as we did against Cardiff.
I don’t think they’re going to be overly adventurous in attack so I’d be testing them out defensively from the off.
Neves hasn’t been reaching the heights we know he’s capable of lately, so a good opportunity to see if Gibbs-White can rediscover some form.
Vinagre and Traore aren’t as cultured as those ahead of them in their position but offer the sort of direct impact we often lack against the bottom sides.
The poll
[interaction id=”5cb87a8d2ea93c3fe20b4fcd”]Predictions
Quite a few people correctly predicted doom at St. Mary’s but nobody got the scoreline.
It’s still tight at the top of the overall table with Wolvo Dave, vicsmith and Teddy Eley all agonisingly close to glory.
As always if you’d like to join in, simply leave your prediction in the comment section below, which is where you’ll find my best guess.
Up The Wolves!

They’re definitely coming with the intent of a scuffy 1-0 so I just hope as a minimum we make them work bloody hard to get it. No soft concessions please lads.
Chris Hughton has had them well organised for a long time, but there are chinks in the armour now and we’ve got to put them under some serious pressure.
I’m hoping we can overwhelm them as we did with Cardiff and that means committing more bodies forward.
We should win and if we play well that will be the case, but I have a suspicion we might surrender a result.
Predicting Wolves to lose or draw is no fun, so we’ll go with another win here even though my head says we massively struggle against these types of teams.
This is a must win if we want to finish 7 th and I think Nuno will go for it and predict a 2-0 win . However since I don’t want to finish 7 th with our tiny squad ( which I don’t think Nuno will change ) ….
This is just the scenario where we usually cock it up – and unfortunately, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if that’s the way it went.
However, what is it – ‘in Nuno we trust’ – so with a little bit of mixing it up, and an additional dose of vitamin D, hopefully it will be enough to earn all 3 points.
Shame though if Brighton do go down as they are the closest Premiership team to me – what will be will be.
All in all, to date, we really have had a better season than we really could have hoped for in our 1st season back at the top.
Put Dendoncker further up and tell him to jump into the offense every chance he gets. I have no doubt he will backtrack.
We need to flood the opposition’s area when we attack if they are going to keep their players back.
Two strikers and a couple of wing-backs don’t have enough physical presence to break down an experienced defense.
2-1 Wolves
PS There is talk again that Andre Silva is being shipped around and one of the teams is Wolves. This is the kind of situation Wolves excel in – distressed sales. Loan to buy then negotiate down if we want to buy.
I’m attending the next 3 matches, hoping the Trilogy don’t turn to Tragedy !!!!(ooooh!)
agree with a more direct attacking approach for this match, and going for a win
COYW
Great read as ever Thomas.
I’m never one for wholesale changes, especially as our line-up had been set in stone for a number of weeks, but maybe we do need some tweaking in order to freshen things up a bit.
Starting at the back. I agree with Vinagre being given a chance, the lad is clearly champing at the bit. Agree with the E&S’ Tim Spiers, Vinagre and Jonny might be rotating more next season. Can see the appeal of Adama starting at RWB (think Cardiff), but wouldn’t be unhappy to see Doc staying there. I do like Saiss and overall I think he’s done fine at RCB, but he had a stinker at Southampton. Would the return of Bennett see us more settled defensively? But we all know Saiss’ distribution is better.
Re the midfield, I don’t think Neves was too bad last Saturday, but it’s clear he’s playing way too deep. When we turned things around v Chelsea in December, and for a couple of games after, MGW revelled in the 10 role, playing in between the lines. I thought the 3412 was here to stay, but obviously the Donck’s form made it more into a 352. I’d be interested to see MGW starting as the 10 again, even if he’s barely impacted games since Xmas. That extra movement might be the key to unlocking defences. It’s clear that we struggle to break teams down, so we need to try something different.
A 3412 to for me with Vinagre at LWB; MGW ahead of Moutinho and Neves. If you’re going to play Traore at RWB, I’d probably prefer the security of Bennett at RCB.
Brighton are struggling big time. I would normally say they will sit in, but they’re shot to pieces defensively, and they need the points. Either way, I fancy us for this one.
Away on a cruise at present so short contribution this week.
Hope the sun has given the lads a nice break and enabled them to put the recent disappointments behind them.
Looking for a very welcome victory.
We had a poor game at Southampton only to see all those around us fall to the same fate.
It’s a funny old game.
One thing I have noticed, not one press report out of Marbella or wherever they are hiding, seems a little sinister. Let’s hope he’s been roasting them back into the free flowing footy we know and have come to love.
I’m going for:-
Wolves 3
Brighton 0
Keep the faith Nuno, but give Vinagre a chance, the lad is dynamite.
Do not think we have played particularly well when we have had a break in the sun, seems to take them a game to get started.
About time we kept a clean sheet and hope Jota and Jimenez are back on form
I’ve going put me neck on line and say 3-1 wolves because I don’t see Brighton having much goals mainly one a game which why got themselves into is trouble they hardly any goal scorers in team and I think owe two upfront will cause so much trouble because they want to wrong last two games now and bounce back because they can are handful and I definitely think Brighton might stuggle dealing with them both hungry to win.
Said to my son after the Watford defeat that I would not be surprised if we didn’t win another game this season, predicted a loss against Saints and same again this week.
I feel the same way as you Mildenhall. I don’t think we could beat anyone at all right now.
At the same time, Brighton look every bit as good as we do! Only 1 result then……..
I know our record is poor when playing teams at the bottom, but if we can’t beat this lot, then we don’t deserve to finish in the top ten.
Agree re the lineup except Traore, he will do his best work further up the pitch as a sub, and is a liability in defence. I would leave the Doc in as he is a real goal threat in a team where if the 2 J’s don’t fire, I can’t see where the goals are coming from, Boly excepted. This is unlike last season where goals were coming from all the team. Full throttle from kickoff and suffocate this Albion team who we owe a tanking.
We have to put one over this lot surely…..???
Fingers crossed for an early goal which will bring a comfortable victory.
Bollocks to the Albion.
Whether from the South Coast, Albion Rovers or sandwell crem.
All bad runs come to an end.
Our bad run against lower teams will end with a bang on Sat., gee ing us up nicely for the arse oles on Wed, who could only win at what for d with an ex shit goalie mistake.
Four wins on the spin, and a finale at Anfield where we deny Liverpool the title, sending their big headed, wanky supporters into suicide mode, after having just witnessed them getting thrashed by our marquee summer signing ,Lionel, from Barcelona!
Cannot see us slipping up again this season, fifteen more points on the board, making us hugely attractive to potential newcomers in the close season.
FOwb
Clive. I love reading your posts, always make me chuckle. Hoping your customary score prediction comes true.
No flucky goal from Murray this time please!
Cheers for the call Clive, I appreciate it.
Sorry I couldn’t really chat but talking just makes me cough at the moment, so I’m leaving it to Sue. No change there then.
Give our love to Marla and wish her a speedy recovery.
Seeya!
Major bogey team. Coming off the back of some poor performances. Can see Brighton packing the defence because a point would be a good result. Can see this turning out to be a frustrating 0-0
In any other season you would confidently predict a straightforward win. But with our knack of getting it wrong against struggling teams who can say. However I’m going with a win(if only because I always do) and because Brighton’s current form is that of a team who have totally lost confidence.
I like Chris Hughton and wish him well but I want to see Wolves back in their winning ways. Give Vinagre another go cos for me he is a huge prospect and should be nurtured. Worry about Doc defensively but don’t think Traore is viable alternative so stay with him.
Otherwise no changes to a team who have given us so much to enjoy.
Our form against teams lower in the division is a concern..but bollox to form . Would defo start with Vinagre , the kid is a real threat and has blistering pace . Not sure about Adama , the jury’s out on that one. Get at em from the get go and can see nothing but a comfortable win.
I see Lawro has us down to win. Bet tossa Merson predicts we will lose….twat
Nuno and the players must ensure that our season does not finish with a whimper. Bennett for Saiss is a must. I fully support bringing in Tarore and Vinagra for this particular game ( not against Arsenal). MGW is not up to par and would leave him on the bench. I believe we are overdue for a good performance against one of the lower teams and this game could be it. We have a point to prove! Comfortable win in the end!
Due to ongoing health problems, we will not be gracing Molineux with our presence this weekend or next week.
Which is a great shame on several fronts. Not least because I’ve got a feeling that we will give Brighton a spanking and probably take Arsenal to the cleaners as well.
I would certainly give young Vinagre a start because he can turn a defender inside out with his pace and trickery. I’d also start Bennett just because he’s a bit more solid than Saiss.
Apart from that I’d stick with the usual suspects.
I’ve been watching film of our victories against United, Liverpool, West Ham etc.
When we’re good we’re bloody good….
We’ve surely got to come good again.
Get well soon Doog!!
Cheers mate!
I’m giving it my best shot!
Sorry to hear you are unwell Doog best wishes to you mate and Sue.
Thanks Dorset. Hopefully on the mend.
Get well soon mate. Basking in the sun at West Park and also have a good feeling today
Should be 4 – 0
There is only one thing worse than genital warts and that is losing to Albion. Which won’t happen as the hapless seagulls will be flapping about uncontrollably in the Wolverhampton sunshine. Glenn Murray might as well be Glenn Campbell singing ‘like a Rhinestone Cowboy’ which is probably what Chris Hughton will be dressed up as. Standing on the edge of the technical area with a cheroot like Clint Eastwood in a spaghetti western surrounded by wild eyed card players . But this time his deck is useless as the seagulls are devoured by the pack. It ay often we have to listen to opposing fans singing ‘albion albion’ and we won’t on Saturday because they will be reduced to silence. WWFC 4 Albion 0. After the match Chris Hughton said ‘ I always knew managing a team called Albion would be useless. You only have to look at Sandwell’. Nuno said ‘ one game at a time. I don’t look at the table. Apart from my kitchen table which is really quite nice. It is really nice when I polish it.”
I take it all back . Merson has got us down to spank Albion 3-0 !
It’s 8:00am Friday and just headed off to Milford Sound…. so WiFi a bit hit and miss… more miss I’m guessing.
Thought we played ok v Saints and but for fine margins might have got s point….
Back to normal on Saturday with a blockbusting performance….
Hope you’re better soon Mark ….

Not going to the bloggers ball mate as I’m under a bit of pressure to attend an August wedding in Warwick,, I’m holding off committing until I get next years prem dates and if they tally up I’ll suddenly be right up for the wedding! !!
Have a great trip and maybe we can catch up for a pre match pint in August

Thanks Mike. I’m sure my basic superfitness will win through in the end!
“Cough cough!”
“Nurse, the screens!!!”
Now you are back to
“Leaving it all to Sue”!!
Surely this is a home banker.
Don’t let the season fizzle out Wolves.
If the trip to the sun has done the trick then I think we could win, but really feel that they’ve run out of steam, after a long enough season of tough games, and ‘nothing to play for’, as it were.
Another charity weekend looms for Wolves but putting faith in the old saying that “charity begins at home”, and the fact that we have to break this jinx at some time going for a win 2 – 0
Bxha look shot to me , I watched the Cardiff game and I think the momentum is with Colin now, I don’t actually mind either as Cardiff have a a terrible time with the officials ( similar to us when we were last in the prem )
They will likely get a goal from the big old guy though, perhaps a set piece just to keep us honest but we will return to our sumptuous best in the second half
Then seventh is ours ……. if we want it ?
Utw
I’m with Shready. Its about time we came good and gave someone a spanking. Topped up with vitamin C after Marbella, sunshine at fortress ( ! ) Molineux, whats between us and a famous victory as we enter the home straight?
Nothing but negative thoughts. A positive mental attitude will see us comfortably over the line.
Don’t even know about this one. We ought to p*ss it. Surely pride demands a better performance than of late.
Surely we can’t be as bad as the last couple of games – can we?
I’m banking in the sunshine having worked it’s magic and the Sea Pigeon ‘s hangover being worse than ours.
What do you know about my hangover? I had an easy Friday after sinking lots of Proper Jobs at the Summer House earlier in the week. Let’s hope that the boys do a proper job today.
Sunning myself in the Champagne region of France at the mo’. Not supping the local brew though. Still prefer a drop of Hobgoblin.
As for the game. Could be a bit of a grind unless we get the all important early/first goal, in which case we could go on to get two or three. The boys have been sunning themselves too, so that extra vitamin ‘D’ could give them just the boost they need and banish post-Wembley blues for good.
Hoping I can catch it somewhere.
COYW
Forgot to add, cant believe we’re in a position where we need to do Colin a favour.
What’s this I hear about Saint Nuno storming out of a press conference when asked about our away form? Touched a nerve I assume. Hope it’s fake news. A few days in Marbella may have restored equanimity . Seems there was a news blackout in Marbella as well giving more credence to the press conference story.
Onto Brighton. I badly want us to thrash any team with Albion in its name. I guess Chris Hughton must be feeeling like Donald Trump when he heard that the special prosecutor had been appointed, as in, “I’m fucked”. Not necessarily Chris, or, like Trump, not just yet. I like Brighton and I don’t like Cardiff but we still need to thrash Brighton. I feel Chris is fucked anyway. It will be insufferable if Colin is still hanging around the PL nest season but you have to give the old git his due for perseverance
I think Neves has to start and show us his recent poor form had been banished, otherwise how are we ever going to sell him for a hundred big ones? 3-0 us.
Forgot the score.
Very worried about this game as it has a Wolves loss all over it !!
But I can’t predict against a loss so 2-0 Wolves.
He definitely legged it out of the press conference.
He was steaming at the tone of the question… from I think the E and S reporter… Luke Hatfield. (Allegedly)
I saw it on YouTube… admire him for it though… maybe he hadn’t finished his packing…
Thanks for the write-up Thomas. I hope Cyprus was good.
I’m hoping the Marbella sun has done the trick for the boys. I’m thinking that there will be minimal shuffling, with perhaps Vinagre the only change from last week’s starting eleven. This, so that the players have the opportunity to exorcise the last couple of results. A thumping good win for Wolves and who cares if it gives Cardiff some false hope.
By the way boys and girls, Barbara is waiting with pencil poised for your menu selections for the Bloggers’ Ball. Thanks very much to those that have already been in touch.
Need a warm up for Gunners match and this one should work wonders
Use Cardiff formation and let Vinaigre and Traore run riot

COYW
You never know with Wolves, they can be good, very good, excellent or poor, very poor and awful.
That’s the team we love and support. We should be used to it by now………
Think we will do them on Saturday.
Surely we cannot let this opportunity to gain maximum points slip by. I just hope we do not get too adventurous. I don’t believe Traore should be anywhere near the defensive third of the pitch (total liability). Bring on as sub if really needed. Vinagre would be OK at LWB and Bennett back where he belongs. I just hope Nuno revs up the team before the game starts so we won’t have any more slow starts. With fingers crossed I am going for a 2-1 win (which seems to be a popular score with our team and allows us one major cock-up).
Agree with your comments Vic re Bennett, Vinagre and particularly Traore (who can’t defend for toffee – see his ball watching for Saints third). Last week ‘s performance left me totally frustrated. I thought we were unprofessional and looked flat and leggy. Hopefully the Vit C will have done the trick, but we need a massive improvement.
COMBSs!
Don’t think this ‘bogey team’ stuff means very much. We haven’t played them too often in recent years and this is a very different club, let alone team, from the one B&HA have had so much success against historically. A positive approach, à la Cardiff should see us home and dry.
Bogey team thoughts aside, I still believe that we will win convincingly against someone before the season’s out and BHA seem as good as any other candidates for this. So am going for 4-1.
One thing I do feel sure of is that if we do end up playing in the Europa next season, Fosun will do what’s necessary to strengthen/deepen the squad. So I don’t feel we’d be better off out of it and leaving it for a year … success breeds success and we don’t want too many periods stuck in base camp when we could be making our way steadily to the summit.
COYW
Agree Jazz well put.
Agreed Jazz – hopefully we’re acclimatised soon, but FFP concerns me re splashing the cash and I don’t want to do a Burnley with a threadbare squad.
Picked up my ticket today for tomorrow and thought I’d pop in the club shop and there was not a lot left in my size to buy.
Just like our season the link up with Adidas has been fantastic i liked there stuff ever since. I could walk and don’t understand why we never linked up with them till now. That to me along with every home game being a sell out show what this club means to Wulfrunians be it those that lived here and those that are scattered around the globe. Amazing every one of you.
I hope we get a preview of next season s kit soon I’m dying to see what adidas have come up with.
As for the game now would be the perfect time to put to bed our demons when it comes to beating the bottom teams AND Brighton in particular……And i think we will.
I’ll be taking the wife, Orca.
I managed to get a couple of spare seats next to me, one for each cheek.
She ain’t been since Carl played.
I don’t care what the score is. Just get her home, back to the kitchen, before she strangles somebody with a blue and white scarf.
Surely we have to be better than we were against Southampton so it’s the trusty usual for me….

Is the Norwich manager Daniel Farke the drummer out of Steppenwolf? I think he probably is. Born to be wild. Ay it.
Just seen the earlier posts and The Doog is unwell. I know you went through some nasty shit a couple years ago. Really hope you are on the mend chap. Best wishes from me. And to Twix. I woe be at the blogger’s meal and all that but I plan on being about pre match for a few jars about 11 if any one is about. I know it is difficult for you lot to get out of bed these days. It’s been a v quiet week on the Wolves twitter which can only mean that Nuno has given them a major kick up the rear & been working the lads socks off.
As the sun has been out & I managed to cut the lawn in under 2 hours I’m taking that as a good omen & going for a home win.
Doog – hope you’ll soon feel better, you’ve had a rough couple weeks by the sounds of things.

Back to some decent form without being completely at our best
Chin up ladies and gents! We got this! Stick with the team. They’ll come good.
Watford was tough. Players took it hard, as did we. They had it in their hands and it slipped through their finger tips. It’s ok. Team is young, and there is much still to learn.
But 7th place is still ours. Southampton away was always going to be tough after Watford. Players were still gutted. That’s because they care. So stick with them. Nuno taking them to Spain to get over things and refocus was genius.
Let’s go Wanderers! We’ve go some games to win!
Go Wolves!!!
Worried about this one, team near the bottom, one of our bogey sides and we have been shit lately. What could go wrong? just about everything.
If we want to finish 7th and get into Europe, and I am not convinced that is a good idea at this stage in the “project” we have to win.
Like many have said change the team a little and go for it.
Expect a win but would not be suprised by a defeat.
Hope the Brighton OAP up front is having an off-day.
Expecting a sun enthused & invigorated team will run rings around the south coast carrier bags.
Think we’ll see a few changes too but NES is better than me at picking the team (except when/who to sub at Wembley – yes still in pain)
Back to winning ways before spanning The Arse mid wik.

my Feeling when we stuffed Cardiff 2-0 was one of relief really since we showed that we can batter lesser sides by taking a slightly different approach. The call to start Vinagre and Traore that day was inspired.
It’s really horrible whenever we go a goal down to a side that wants to park the bus, because it basically guarantees 40mins plus of watching us pass the ball around their penalty box with little actual goal threat.
So we must score first.
Another tough task today. Brighton now fighting for their lives in Premier League. This could help us as they need to play for a win, not a draw.
I expect a stressful, nervy afternoon with Wolves managing to snatch the win.
Would welcome a few changes too to freshen things up.
I haven’t been too great with my predictions recently, but I would expect Nuno to demand a response and he usually gets one. I doubt it’ll be straight forward, but I’ll predict a narrow win.
Time for a performance to boost the spirits and this Portuguese weather will hopefully make a lot of the lads feel at home. Brighton are crap so let’s prove it.
I think wolves will get the job done today, one way or another. Nunos got a selection headache because this shape just doesn’t work for Neves he’s to deep. Problem is he can’t move Moutinho he’s too influential. Traore and Vinagre start on the wings for me theres a lot of pace in the side when their there. Jota and Jimenez with the goals!
