There’s been very little to separate Wolves and Villa in recent times.
In the last five meetings, both sides have managed a win by the odd goal and the other three matches have been hard fought draws.

I don’t envisage this game bucking the trend either.
Villa have played 10 away matches to date and drawn 6 of them, whereas Wolves have also shared the points in 4 of their last 5 Premier League fixtures.
Another draw wouldn’t be a disaster for Wolves, but without question we need to pick up a win sooner rather than later.
It’s a mighty shame our meek cup exit put a dampner on a fantastic result at White Hart Lane.
Still, with 10 fresh faces to come back in, we can hope for considerably better than the dross of Wednesday night and hopefully a big response.
The Team
Assuming everyone is sit, the team picks itself for tomorrow:

I hope Mick can field that side tomorrow, as I think there’s a real balance to it and should give us every chance of getting a win.
Dave Edwards seems to be the biggest injury concern and if he doesn’t make it perhaps Milijas or Guedioura will profit? I certainly hope Hunt isn’t shifted in to plug the gap though, based on his poor showing on Wednesday.
Prediction League
Most people thought we’d get tonked by Spurs last time out, which I suppose isn’t unsurprising. The end result though is that only 6 people picked up any points.
4 of those 6 got the 1-1 scoreline and get the maximum 3 points. Well done to gebb, Super Kev Doyle, Mark G Davies and kinhaven.
Crazy Pete and Charlieee get a single point.
I’ll go for it this weekend a predict a narrow home win.
2-1.
If you’re at Molineux tomorrow, have a great time and get right behind the lads.
Up The Wolves.

I’m inclined to agree Thomas. If Edwards isn’t fit I’d like to see Adlene given a game, although I appreciate that could easily backfire, and I’m not sure Mick is likely to give him a start.
I’m really hoping for a big response though tomorrow, even though it should be a very different team from Wednesday. I’ll follow your lead and opt for a narrow 2-1 win. I simply can’t see us keeping a clean sheet.
we’re gonna smash the vile 3-1, keano with a late consolation for the brummies earning warm applause from an already jubilant molineux as fletch’s first PL hat-trick (a left foot tap in, right foot pile driver and the usual headed effort) brings the conga out on the southbank.
come on me babbies!!!
Wolves 1-1 Villa, I’m guessing.
If MM selects the players not involved against Birmingham, more or less, I’m sure the first eleven will be something like your pick.
Onuoha signs for QPR. A rival has strengthened. Wigan is interested in Hammill. What sort of money do you think is involved in a possible transfer? I would love to take on Roddalega in an exchange deal.
The most exciting rumors so far concerning Wolves in the transfer window is Klasnic.
I watched the game against Birmingham and I saw a big guy with glasses on the bench that looked like K.Jones. The match was seen in a bar without any sound due to a national hand ball match televised at the same time. Can someone confirm that?
I think you were looking at Tony Daley our current fitness coach.
a last minute goal to win 2-1. Fletch to be a hero and 3 grateful points.
We’ve got to win some time and if its the team you put up thomas then we have a rgeat chance. Mick could go crazy though and throw a curve ball with the selection but if the spurs game was anything to go by then we should stick with that.
I’ll be busy all wknd and not checking the scores – i think it’ll be good for my health and state of mind!
Hope for a good game but my instincts tell me a bore draw 0 – 0 . We desperately need to win this game MM must go for it in the second half. Please prove me wrong and at least score.
I would also have gone for a bore draw, if it weren’t for:
• Our useless defence, when was our last clean sheet again? Goal to Villa
• Fletcher is in the middle of a purple patch… we are so fucked when it comes to an end. Goal to us
Agree with this Thomas, and I’ll go for 2-1 as well.
I actually think, for all the doom-and-gloom I’ve been guilty of lately, if we picked that XI for the remaining 17 games we would stay up.
What worries me – especially after Wednesday – are the replacements.
If Jarvis gets injured he’ll play the appalling Hunt.
If any of the midfield three are injured I fear he’ll use it as an excuse to go 442.
If our passing full-backs are injured it’s Stearman and Elokobi hoofball time.
And if Fletcher is injured we may as well give up.
Let’s hope it goes well – a Kightly goal would cheer me up… it’s been a while!
1-1 draw, Fletch to score
I will go 1-1 as I am nowhere near considering that we can keep a clean sheet.
2-2 Villa to get the benefit of a dodgy ref late on again!
0-1 to Villa, Bent to score it.
I’d prefer Hammill to Kightly personally. who knows what team the idiot in charge will pick tomorrow. One thing for ure is that we will be chasing shadows most of the game, we won’t string two passes together, Hennessey will kick the ball more than any other player and also be the man of the match, Fletch will nick one from a set piece and we ill lose 2-1
Hopefully the confidence won’t have been sapped by the midweek shambles. Especially after the immense performance at Spurs. To be fair, the Birmingham result was blindingly obviously going to be 1-0 to them (we beat Millwall 5-0, they beat Millwall 6-0, ipso facto…).
I’ll go for 2-2 this weekend, with an obligatory late equaliser from Robbie.
Hope Wolves win but god knows! 2-1 Wolves.
Think we’ll get the same end result as our last match with Villa.
1-1
Local paper predicts MM is going 4-4-2 with Fletch and SEB ‘up top’.With kightly and Jarvis on the wings i see it more as a 4-2-4 which means we will struggle to find space ‘up top’ and Villa will catch us on the counter.
2-2 but i am prepared for worse.
Narrow 2-1 win – though I don’t care how we do it!
Regarding the team line-up though, will Mick pick 4-4-2 or did the B’ham game dissuade him from that?
0-2 Villa – Bent and Warnock to score. MM to lose his job.
I’m going for a 0-2 defeat, partly cos I am always wrong, so we might win 2-0.
From where I sit either result has it’s comfort.
If we win, hurrah, for 3 points we need desperately.
On the other hand a 0-2 defeat, will surely be the final nail in McCarthy’s managerial coffin.
He says he is “sick of heroic failure.”
Unfortunately, he is responsible for the ‘failure’ and should be ‘heroic’ himself and fall on his sword!
1-0 wolves. Hunty won’t be anywhere near the starting line up. Mick was furious with his lazy offside in the blues game by the looks of it. I’d go with your team.
Said it before. Swap edwards for a fit O’Hara and that’s our best team
Hope you’re right but I actually thought he was furious with Hammill for delaying that pass.
You may be right. It was a ridiculous piece of play either way.
This game has got draw written all over it. However, my head says we’ll lose & my heart says we’ll win.
We desperately need to get some points on the board. So I’ll go with my heart and hopefully we’ll win 3-1 (Fletcher 2 & Frimpong 1). Fingers crossed!
Damn!!! Just read that Villa haven’t lost at Molineux in 34 years! You know what the result would be if Villa hadn’t won in 34 years……..they’d definitely win! So lets hope we can put an end to that statistic.
Villa are shit at the moment and need a positive result.
We are shit…all the time…and need a positive result.
Thereefore, guess who’s bad run will stop/
Yeah, Villa’s!!
As some wag put it on the E & S blog, if we were a hospital we would be closed down by the Health Department, coz we can’t keep a clean sheet.
Wolves 0 Villa 2
Morgan to give McDickwad a rousing vote of confidence, we all get our hopes sky high, only for Morgan to actually mean it, and keep the pratt in a job.
FOMM
Who knows what the score will be, because we don’t know who will turn up – let’s hope it’s more that the two or three that decided to play on Wednesday. Thank goodness Dave Edwards will be fit (like this will make a positive difference!).
I’ve learnt to manage my expectations down, so Wolves 1-3 Villa.
More excuses, more bad refereeing decisions. Welcome relegation zone…
To beat Villa today, strong enough Wolves are not. A 2-2 draw I predict. Hmmm…
Heisenberg uncertainty principle states specifically that the product of the uncertainties in position and momentum is always equal to or greater than one half of the reduced Planck constant ?, which is defined as the re-scaling h/(2?) of the Planck constant h. So that’s 3-1 to us
Pataphysically speaking Danny, using Plank’s constant in the theory of reductionism, its 1-2 to Villa and McCarthy spontaneously combusting at the final whistle!!!!!!
merdre
So that’s 4-1 to us then
“Ha! Ha!” said Bosse-de-Nage
The Plank’s constant alright. 5 years of the bugger unfotunately which should produce an away win but i,m not actually sure how you calculate the exact score from this principle.
I prefer to use the McCarthy uncertainty principle. This states that a much improved, hugely unexpected performance ( a la Spurs last week ) which provides hope of more of the same the following week (same team, same tactics, same quality) will actually be followed by total shite (different team, different formation and clueless performance).
Hope and logic suggest a home win, historical evidence suggests an away win.
Empirically,I have to go with the latter. Factor in our huge amount of effort and desperation in front of an unbelieving Molineux and the exact answer is a low scoring defeat. 1-2 to Villa. Please prove me wrong.
Against all evidence and precedence, I am predicting a clean sheet for us and a sneaky win:
Wolves 1 – Villa 0
Time for us to get on a winning run if we want to stay in the prem.if we don’t win its time for
him to go.Benitez waiting is the rumour.
I not heard that rumour… Where you hear it.
I’m sure he would be a good replacement, but doubt he would join Us..
I think it was from twitter,i got it secondhand from my son.nice thought though if true, but
knowing our luck its probably all B…..ks…unless he resigns and he’s a stubborn bastard so
i think we’er stuck with him.
Interesting rumour, maybe already knows Morgan as a ‘Liverpool’ fan.
At least Benitez has a brain I’d take him instead of Mad Mick.
I think its high time to see a clean sheet, and Villa is just the foe to give us that. Back four will be pretty solid, if Frimpong/Henry lock down the defensive midfield I can’t see Hennessey giving anything up this time around.
On the offensive side of the ball the Wolves are still anemic. I expect a better flow of game up front, just not sure if we’ll get a goal or not. Love to see Fletcher continue his great run but I’ve a feeling a Wolves goal is going to have to come from somewhere else this Saturday. Perhaps a penalty kick? I think we’ll get a goal somewhere unlikely this time around, midway through the 2nd half.
1 – 0 Wolves.
http://footballburp.com/opinion/embattled-manager-of-the-week-mick-mccarthy/
Makes for very interesting reading, this… though I daresay Clive can add about ten more ‘Derisive nicknames!’ 🙂
Congrats on the namecheck there, Hamlet 🙂
How many more disappointing results until you too switch to the ‘dark side’, though?
Well, since Tottenham wasn’t a disappointing result I’m still on the ‘light side’ for now, but ask me again if we lose to Villa – see how I feel then, because the next two games are harder than this one!
Wolves 1-1 Villa – Villa come from behind after an asinine decision by the ref brings us down to 10 men.
I’m as rubbish at this prediction thing as Mick is at picking the right side but what the heck.
2-1 Villa
My bet at the bookies is for a draw. My prediction here is 1-0 win, Fletcher to score.
2-0 Wolves. This is where our season starts! (but think i’m still drunk from last night)
What is it, 34 years since we beat Villa at home? While my heart says draw, my head says we’ll win it. I’ll go 2-1 Wolves.
Swap Edwards for a fit O’Hara, Milijas or Guedioura and I would be a happy man. Edwards is decent, but I think he fits more in the role of Frimp/Henry than as the one behind Fletcher. He simply can’t score.
But i think this will be a 1-0 win. Hope for some Kightly magic, and considering I right now have back-to-back correct predictions this can’t go wrong.
Wolves 1:2 Villa
Another cr@p result with McCarthy moaning about something other than his own tactics!
Please give me something to get the image of the blues game out my head! Scrappy game with wolves to nick it 1-0.
I think we can win this game. I’ll go with 2-1 to Wolves.
I’m not ashamed to admit it. I just shed a tear for Kites. Fair play tot he lad i’m chuffed to bits for him. What a game so far! A million miles from midweek!
What a brilliant first half that was! Hope I don’t put the mockers on it, but that’s the best football we’ve played in the PL sice we beat West Ham 3-1 away 2 years ago. With Frimpong (new) and Kightly (rejuvenated) shining so brightly, it’s like we’ve suddenly put two extra players on the park. More chances in the first 45 than in the rest of our home matches put together. Fabulous! Keep it up, boys.
Now look what you bloody did.
Yep. Guilty as charged. I’ll take the rap.
Gutted, gutted, gutted.
How galling can it get? From the sublime to the bloody ridiculous. And into the bottom three we slip.
Hats off to Robbie Keane though. Brilliant strikes the pair.
Yep, Kudos to Robbie. But boody hell. That really was two games in one. The old cliche is sounding out now. I’m distraught, really am.
Karl Henry. You fucking clown.
FFS, Henry. What a complete plonker you are.
And straight into the bottom 3 we go. Anyone still think we’re gonna be ok?
Let’s wait on how Frimpong is doing…
Karl Henry and ten others? Not any more!
Can’t believe we lost after that first half – and if Frimpong’s injured then we may be f**ked!
God that’s a shame, really felt we played amazingly the first 45.
Karl had a decent game apart from his red card idiocy, but wow he really ruined us. I wonder how the startup is next week if Frimp(who was great) is injured. Milijas + Guedioura? Or Doyle? Or Hunt back?…
Ward to midfield, and Elokobi at left back….simple, wonder he didn’t do that today!!!
Fuckin’ shambles, fuck off mcdickshitwadhead.
Think your being a bit harsh on mm on this one. He got tactics spot on in first half we tore villa apart and looked brilliant. Kights goal was something else. Frimpongs injury was unfortunate, henrys sending off was senseless. Nowt much he could do about keanes winner either. I’ve got large doubts about mm as well but he was unlucky today. Based on todays performance our season rests on how quickly Frimpongs back.
Despite the 20 minutes when we were awesome I expect relegation, Frimpong or not…
Two game changing moments. Frimpong off Henry off. They both stay on we win. We were awesome in the first half. Kightly finally showing the ability we all hoped he still had. To end it 45 mins later two key men down and in the bottom three, life just isn’t fair.
Second half turned into a nightmare – Bolton 2-0 up we are deep deep in it – Manny Frimpong might prefer to play for us masked up.
It could be a lot more than facial injury – there were talks of damage to the eye! A good dream turned into a complete nightmare!
Thats bad news he was probably our best player fingers crossed for him.
News coming out at Arsenal end saying he could be out for up to 3 months – never known a season when so much on the pitch has gone against us ( bolton now 3-1 up )
Totally pissed off we have only our selves to blame,we played them off the park first half,
what happened the second half to play that bad,i know frimpongs injury caused us a few problems but it looked to me the writing was on the wall that it was going to be a very diferent
second half because of the way we started what was said at halftime for us to be so bad, back to the same old wolves making silly mistakes like we always do.Henry what a prick he was,he lost us the game what was he thinking of we were still in it up until then cost us big time and now a three match ban one we can ill afford wilh frimpong out for 3 months.we’er doomed because we’er in the dreaded shite now where we have been steadily falling and with the team directly below us picking up points i fear thats where we’el stay because this so called manager has’nt got a clue how to get us out of it so its about time he got fucked off and morgan and the board get their fat arses into gear and get a replacement asap or its chapionshite football next season.Like a majority of wolves supporters HAD ENOUGH.AND HAPPY-CLAPPERS I SUSPECT,Time to call it a day.Still think if we gat rid now theres a slim chance of survival….
Just got the result of the bolton v liverpool game,3-1,well MR MORGAN Look where we are now, second from bottom,Are you still backing the so called manager.sack the bastard.like you should have done at the end of last season.FOMM.
Understand where you are coming from but who is available that could get us out of this fix?
Morgans mate ex liverpool boss Benitez i hope.
“I will not forget Liverpool and a part of [it] will always be in my heart but if another club comes I will try to do my best for that club, as I always have done” Benitez words in the Independent last October; do you think he would interested in Wolves?
Well theres a connection with liverpool, Benitez and morgan being friends. who knows.
It hurts… Here I’m, sitting in my chair, thousand miles away from Molineaux (which, quite possibly, I’ll will never attend in my lifetime) and it hurts like all hell…
UTW!!!
Its not the best place to be at the moment Vladimir.like you i’m hurting also.
Where are u Vladamir? U must come over. There will be plenty of seats available next season.
Yep, I’ll be the one flying from Bulgaria, helping to rise the crowd numbers to 10 K….
It has taken two and a half hours to get from my seat in the Jack Harris to my armchair at home; it’s at times like this that we all ask ourselves why do we put ourselves through this ordeal so frequently when the outcome is so frequently disappointing. It would be easy to turn on MM this evening but in the back of all our minds we know we are just looking for someone to blame. We could so easily have won this afternoon and I guess that is what is so frustrating, that is what is always so frustrating about supporting Wolves. However what is the alternative? become a supporter of one of the top 4! I don’t think so, you know we shall all be back at Molineux again for the Liverpool match. Lets hope its just a black-eye for Frimpong and that he becomes our saviour for the rest of the season, we certainly need someone to believe in.
Sorry but frimpong out for 3 months that the word at mo.
You must watch this……. Just came across it on the ‘we are wolves’ facebook page. Not sure if it’s the wine talking but very funny!!!

To appreciate it fully you may wish to watch the original….

We are f**k*d
Today was Probably the day that we get relegated.
That’s no question our best 11 (apart from O’hara instead of Edwards) and we still could not beat a vile team on the ropes..
Good bye Premier league, 4 wins from 22 games… what a laughing stock and still McCarthy keeps his job..
How about 2 wins in 20 that looks a whole lot worse to me,i agree we’er f..ked.and been shafted by them all.
Whats happened Thomas or Ben been very quiet. awaiting in antiicipation for your spiel if thats the right word.
