Mark the calendar.

July 21st 2016 is a seismic day in the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Whether it’s another false dawn or the commencement of a bright and prosperous new era, the significance of this moment should not be overlooked.
This is big.
Expectations will be enormous and a written commitment to invest a minimum of £20-30 million over two years will do little to suppress the appetite of supporters dreaming of global domination.
Short term, the departure of Jez Moxey after 16 years in charge is the most significant surprise. Whether he jumped or was pushed only he and a select few others will ever know.
But this is total revolution. New owners, a new board, guaranteed investment.
The only questions supporters now want answering are simple:
- Who will be the manager?
- What will he have to spend to rapidly improve a faltering team?
In a strange and spooky turn of events, no sooner had this takeover been unofficially confirmed, Julen Lopetegui was announced as Spain’s national coach.
Are the two stories connected? Was he ever in contention to take over? I expect that will eventually come out in the wash.
Short term, my preference is for retaining Kenny Jackett based solely on the fact I don’t feel he’s been given sufficient resources at Championship level to make any definitive statement about his abilities.
But I accept this is a minority view point.
To me, the more important question is the latter because asking any manager to achieve a promotion tilt with the backing Jackett received last season is asking for a rabbit to be pulled from the hat.
With a press conference scheduled for Monday and developments over the weekend likely, volatile and interesting times lie ahead.
Personally, I can’t wait.
To our new owners, a simple message: Huanying

Time alone will tell whether this is a Golden or poisoned chalice but for me the omens look good and I can’t wait to see who we bring in and how our season pans out. So exciting. So much promise for the future. That in itself is a welcome change.
Ha ha. First and second posts on this momentous new thread.
Bye bye and good riddance to fat Jez – regardless of what happens having him out of our club makes today a great day!
Personal preference is to get rid of Jackett as well and have a complete fresh start!
Thank God it’s over.
Wolves forever.
Am walking on air!
Morgan gone – horrible, pathetic, timid, money-grabbing little mouse of a man with little or no backbone. Good riddance.
Moxey – going soon. Odious, arrogant, contemptuous, money grabbing liar. Good riddance.
Thelwell – hopefully gone or going very soon. Useless. Might be a nice bloke for all I know but as an unearther of footballing talent he is hopeless. Good riddance.
Jackett – hopefully going soon. Nice man but not the right one to take us forward into the upper echelons of the FML (Foreign Money League). Thanks for what you did and good luck.
New manager? Wonder who? Can’t wait. Its amazing. Feel like I am 10 years old again and Wolves are storming to promotion under Ronnie Allen having just signed the Doog for £50,000.
I’m so excited
And I just can’t hide it
We’re about to regain control and I think I like it!
Really great news at last we can have some hope that things will improve and that we can get back to the premier league. Nothing on the manager position yet, thought the Spanish chap was a risk as getting out of this league will be very hard, do others have any opinions who ? Or do we keep Jackett ? Have slight worry that Jackett even though playing the cards he was dealt did have some strange lack of/positional substitutions
I want KJ to stay on until December, and then we can judge again based on league position. As has been said, he’s never truly had any backing but I also think that this club is still 2 years away from promotion anyway. Sacking the manager now – and bringing in someone new, at the absolute utmost speed is still probably only 1- 2 weeks away. How much time are you really giving a manager to get the team in that he wants?
Let KJ hold on to the keys. If we aren’t where we are, we bring the new guy in December/January. He can bring in one or two guys but it’s mostly just working with the current crop to play under his system. Then, after this season.. he can take the whole summer to bring in reinforcements that play under his system and can guide us forward. I think a similar setup to what Klopp had at Liverpool. It’s still to be seen if it’s effective or not, but he’s now getting to bring in the guys that he wants.
The excitement levels are high but we aren’t just magically going to be granted promotion. It still is very much a work in progress and I’d hate to waste this new found money on rush judgments of players under a new manager trying to bring guys in, in under a month’s time.
Either way, fantastic news and Wolves will be premier again in no time!
Its ‘Moxit Day’ after 16 years, we can now have a fresh start.
We all know that success in football is very difficult to achieve and all we ask is that the new owners show the ambition and desire to try for success.
Exciting times, cant be any worse than our previous situation(last season). I hope Kenny gets snapped up by another club which I’m sure he will if he’s going and totally deserves it.
Moxey kept the books balanced if nothing else and I suppose he deserves credit for just that…but not any more.
The management situation is a bit of a downer and could really put us in a twist.
Will Mendez be doing Thelwell’s role ongoing inn some fashion?
Hopefully we have players seriously lined up and ready to go along with management.
I think we’ve been had. All those rumours got our hopes up but this deal falls a long way short of all that. 20-30 million investment over 2 years is nothing much these days. I doubt it’s enough to turn us into promotion contenders given the stupid prices being paid. I hope i’m wrong but this takeover leaves me cold.
Absolutely! 20 – 30 million over 2 years is not much at all these days when it comes to taking a football club to the PL. In fact, it’s pretty much the same level of investment that Morgan supplied.
On top of that, the involvement of Mendes appears far from clear and the managerial situation also seems to be still a work in progress.
Lot of questions still needing answers for me and wh has it all happened so late? he season is almost upon us and we have nothing permanent in place.
“On 11 December 2015, it was reported that the chairman of Fosun, the billionaire Guo Guangchang has disappeared, and it is speculated that he was questioned by government authorities in an inquiry stemming from Party General Secretary Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption efforts. Guo however reappeared on 14 December 2015 at a Fosun board of directors meeting. During his disappearance, Fosun requested that trading of shares in a Hong Kong-listed subsidiary be temporarily suspended.[6] The Fosun board of directors issued a statement saying that Guo was assisting in a government inquiry which, in their opinion, did not present a “material adverse impact” on Fosun’s finances or operations.”
There’s enough horror stories to urge caution here and the above doesn’t fill me with confidence
On the surface great news as it looked like we were going down the pan with Morgan.
But has to be tempered with the uncertainty about the Manager. Then what’s happened to the Jorges Mendes link, & the rumours about buying top European talent?
But either way exciting times ahead, & although time will tell it’s a big plus for our chances of getting to the Prem.
I’d be tempted to let Kenny Jackett stay, if only to maintain stability. A foreign manager could be a gamble at this stage eg Solbakken.
With funds maybe Kenny can put a team together that can challenge for promotion but if he goes back in for Chris Woods we know the answer.
If a proven manger was available, such as Bruce, I’d take them, as promotion quickly is the primary aim. Getting to the Premiership and staying there is the key objective.
Take the best of our players. Top up with the returning Dicko and Graham.Stir in 4 or 5 new players up to a value of 30mill. Sprinkle with cream from the Academy and Hey Presto, a recipe for a good tilt at promotion. Mmmmm delicious.
Reasons to be cheerful
1 Moxey gone
2 Morgan gone
I have not been so happy about the Wolves for years. Hopefully this is the start of something big at last.
I intend to go down the pub tonight to have a good steak and get mildly rat arsed whilst taking the piss out of some shit supporters and a few of Small Heath persuasion. Fortunately we have no known Vile supporters frequenting or rural idyll in South Shropshire.
If I am sober tomorrow I will spend the day dreaming on managers and players to come, well we can now dream can’t we.
Brompton can you get some tee shirts made up with the slogan “WOLVES BLOGGERS. SUPPORTERS BEFORE WE WERE RICH” Should sell like hot cakes I would have thought.
I will close these thought echoing the slogan of the bard of Houston
FoWB
We are coming for you bastards big style
Hmmmmm. £20 – £30 million over the next 2 years. That’s 10-15 million for this season. Enough to get us promoted? Not sure about that.
If Kenny does go I think he should leave with our thanks for restoring some pride back in our club and bringing on some promising youngsters. He should go with a standing ovation not insults ringing in his ears.
Interesting times ahead methinks.
Linden – were you aware that a Chinese curse is “may you live in interesting times.” Probably you are
Well, at least the posts on here generally positive, unlike WolvesRumours where half the posters are moaning already. What the hell do these people want!? This deal and these new owners are FAR bigger than anything any Wolves fan could have dreamed about a couple of months ago. Indeed, 3 or 4 weeks ago we thought we’d be starting the season under the same regime and financial restraints. Some Wolves really do annoy the f*ck out of me. Let’s give our new owners ALL of our support and positivity and embrace this exciting and fantastic new dawn!!! UTW 😀
I certainly think Jackett will be on his way.
Surely Mr Feng Shi, the ‘negotiator’, will want to show ambition?
If Jordes Mendez is involved, he won’t want European Starlets coached by anyone, but a recognised name.
I’d like to see us appoint Ryan Giggs Monday morning.
That would stimulate a great deal of interest in the footballing world and encourage some good players to come to the club.
Certainly think the Ryan Giggs suggestion is a very good one for sure.
Nah, we don’t want old players looking for a final paycheck…..Oh, you mean as a manager??!!
Giggs doesn’t have the temperament to be a top coach – too soft.
Really? How do you know that mate?
He’d make a brilliant manager I believe.
Certainly he’d attract good players to the club.
I think Jackett’s biggest problem is being too soft.
Nice guy but not the best at making a decision.
Gary Neville anyone
It’s never easy to be a Wolves fan..even when we are sold all be it to a different buyer to what was said..
We were told Li ..we were told lopetegui and we had players being bandied about at £12M that would come which also is in doubt presumably ..and now only £20-£30M to spend over 2 years ..
World beaters..
We now need a manager too and to even think that KJ could manage the start of the season from our current position is not only suicidal but the thought of KJ saying that ‘we did this wrong’ and ‘did that wrong’ yet again makes me head for the nearest tree or fast flowing river..
On a positive note lol if the club wants to get back to the pl and stay there then we need £50-£100M and we seem to have the resources to get it even if it means making Wolves into a PLC which seems to be Fosun’s cup of tea..
They seem to be historically ruthless rule benders to me too..
So Li (could) of been better.. Mendes
could of lost his grip at the end of the deal and we have to wait until Monday for all the Qand Answers..
I wanted a new ground.. £100M for players..links to Shanghai.. PL nxt season.. Europe the next ‘..and total World domination..that’s all…
I’m really not sure what proportion of that we’ve got..
This IS big but how big?
I find it hard to believe that an Agent of Jorges Mendez’s stature, would involve himself with a dodgy Chinese outfit, buying a Championship Club!
It just doesn’t make sense.
All the doom and gloomers listening to the rumours, wait and see what they say on Monday!
At least dream and enjoy the weekend.
Morgan has no idea what our new owners are going to spend, and I am certainly confident that they will spend what it takes to get us up and keep us up. Be positive mate.
Steve, it’s bigger and better than nothing! 😀
I am pleased that all the whoha and speculation has finally been laid to rest. We now have new owners.
What can we expect?
A new CEO – for all the Moxey haters around – As a CEO I think that he has done a much better job than a lot of people understand or realise. He is one tough negotiator when he sits at the bargaining table. It was not him who held the purse stings tight, Mr Morgan was doing that and only opening them on very rare occasions and handing out pennies when pounds where needed with the simple message – ” Make do with that or nothing”
Who will be in charge of the team? KJ is still with us and I am not disappointed. He has been trying to build a squad with minimal investment. I think he still has a lot to offer and hopefully he will be given a few bob to spend. Investment in a few new players is vital if we are to make progress in this division. Our current squad has potential but we need one or two quality signings.
The future is looking brighter but I am a little cautious because we have seen other clubs have new owners and some have been a disaster.
Looking forward to see what’s next around the corner at the Mol.
Sevlow … I thought the same way until last Saturday when I was having a couple of drinks with a couple of recent and fine wolves players . The horror stories that I cannot repeat changed my mind about jez moxey completely . Good riddance to him and ….
UP THE WOLVES !!!!!
Fair enough London. I stand corrected.
As London Wolves says ….that fat slimeball has shafted this club for years …along with his hobby missus.
I know things that Moxey has dipped into that would make your hair curl….. Believe me he was the biggest mistake that Sir Jack ever made …..
GOBBY …not hobby…
I thought hobby was a better way of describing her.
Glad he has gone and good riddance.
Good negotiator maybe but inflexible whe it mattered.
Keeping my feet on the ground and putting my seat belt on. It’s going to be a fast ride to get us back to speed on the pre season and get some players in. Hold on tight guys for the exciting ride ahead.
Some positive news at last. I think KJ has done the best he could under the circumstances that he had to work with, ie 1 hand tied behind his back & little backing. He has also made some strange decisions as well, KMac situation, subs used (or not) etc etc.
Interesting to see what the press conference reveals transfer & manager wise. I agree £20-30 million isn’t much but not sure if that’s put into the tranfer budget or into the grounds, academy etc. Hope it’s the latter.
A year to build the team up & next year a shot at the prem is a realistic target I would think.
We are Wolves & hopefully we’re back!
Amazing news…Bring on the good times, great respect and thanks to Kenny, we have more young potential in the team or near the team than I can ever remember. Kenny was the only person who was ever totally honest with us, nobody else gave the fans the respect they deserve, stay or go you get my utmost thanks!
I feel it’s exciting times. My initial thought was £20m certainly isn’t enough, £30m maybe but who said Fosun won’t invest more if required to get Wolves to the Prem in the first year.
All they’ve stated is a commitment to invest £20-30m. That’s a minimum…. I’m sure they could invest more if they wanted to. If we have the right manager, and a decent CEO, then they will be in a position to ask for more investment in players if they truly believe it’s going to take us to where we all want to be. Fosun want that (for investment reasons) and we want that (for bragging rights)! … Considering the whole corporation make over £150m a day – an extra £10-15m or so over a year is most certainly not breaking the bank.
To Fosun doubters: They have never been proven to be dodgy or charged with anything so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they take our beloved club as a serious investment. They know the benefits of reaching Premier League (and even Champs League) status – that’s why they invest in Championship sides. They would not have invested in Wolves just for us to languish in the Championship and if they believe we need investment in players to get there, I’d like to think they’d be providing the funds.
Looking forward to the next few days, the season ahead and MUCH better times.
UTW!
I hope they turn out to be worthy custodians. Fingers crossed, must say would of preffered a single owner instead of being just another business in a huge portfolio. Open mind time will tell.
What happened to Li and Lepeteui? Was this a rival bid? Money no object. Buying a player 21M. 5 players to be signed on one day.
For the first time in many years I did not renew my Season Ticket on the Early Bird scheme.
This was because Morgan and Moxey had taken away all of my hope for the coming season(s).
As a football fans,we all know this is the main thing to keep us going.
Whatever the club has/doesn’t have to spend, for me,is irrelevant now.
The ‘Hope’ has returned.
The end or an era or should I say error because that’s what in my view it was for Morgan to buy Wolves. I still maintain he got the old bird run down out of date living on her past were as what he really wanted was the glamorous bird from his home town ie Liverpool, he settled for Wolves tryed to convince himself and us he had a heart transplant when we all knew your first love is your first love no matter how many come after her no one will ever take her place.
As for Morgans legacy…….yes he can say invested in the Acadamy and that is in the top League but look at where the under 21s finished last year and how many games they won .
He rebuilt the Stan Cullis stand when what he really need to build was a team capable of competing or a least surviving in the Premier League so all he did do was put money into bricks and motor when he should have put it into decent players, establish the team FIRST in the Premier League then with the money from TV invest in the infrastructure, like Stoke have done.
He presided over 2 relegations one which saw us in the third tear of English football , something I thought I’d never see again and when we did return to the Championship wasted the momentum build up and would not invest in the team, Afobe apart, in fact doing the opersite asset stripped the team for profit.
Steve my advice to you mate, NEVER buy another football club you got out pretty unscathed this time just think the abuse and flack you would of received if you had done to your beloved Liverpool what you’ve done to Wolves………..tat……tar……chuck..!
To be fair, a big reason for the apparent failings of the under 21’s is that the pick of them play in the first team. Hey, two have been regulars for England. Not bad for a Championship club.
I agree Wolf my point is in my view Morgan put the cart before the horse, and I hope the Acadamy produces players in years to come but it’s a long process takes time and you still need to buy players espeailly experienced players to guide the kids coming through.
Morgans philosophy seemed to be the Acadamy will produce the team and there was no need to buy, or not in the quaintly and quality required.
they dead good hooray die all u bastards die
Agreed vexrob. The written commitment is to invest a ‘minimum’ £20/£30 million. Over 2 years. Let’s see what the press conference brings on Monday and see what they have to say. Interesting times ahead if nothing else.
babbiesNot sure what to think get, will dream over the weekend and hope the press conference on Monday will reveal more.
I think KJ did a good job last year with the resources at his disposal so would be happy for him to stay at the club even if he is moved upstairs with possibly a Giggs type coming in to manage.
I certainly think we need football knowledge on the board preferably someone with Wolves knowledge.
Totally underwhelmed by the £20-£30m over 2 years quoted but then again if we say we have £50m then the prices quoted for players would rise.
Come on me babies.
Tablet froze… babbies should not be the first word. I know you’re all old guys like me
Here we go it sounds as if some are jumping off the roller coaster already, cant quite grasp that myself.
COYW!
Just a thought … Why not break with tradition and have a early season bloggers assembly at the park view so we can chat about hope instead of disappointment ?
Brillo idea, LWL.
Send me two return airline tickets, plus $600.00 to board my dawgs, and we are there.
China Airways of course.
Hi Clive.
I am surprised you have not shouted from the rooftops about the imminent departure of Moxey.
I am so looking forward to seeing how the season pans out.
See you in May.
What a fluctuating couple of weeks. Now that the dust has settled I for one am very happy. Goodbye Steve Morgan, Jez and Jezebel Moxey. Kenny can stay to help the new head coach for a while. Kenny’s knowledge of home grown players is extensive. It doesn’t look like Rinaldo is coming on loan anytime soon.
I suspect that a new head coach is in the pipeline. If not Ryan Giggs could be worth a shot. I’d even consider him paired with Harry Redknapp. Henry is a promotion specialist from the second flight. Steve Bruce also. David Moyes would have made a good first choice but he’s gone to Sunderland. Our new owners will probably want a big name, which is why I think they have someone lined up. Player recruitment on the limited budget mentioned won’t necessarily be a problem with Mended around. I suspect we will get some top loans as a result.
Great times ahead!
Clive .. My first thought was that you wound nt be able to make it but I’m sure that the video highlights would jiggerbite their way across the pond . Only a thought . .
Anyway you d only swear a lot about Albion and some of our newer posters may not realise about you wolves based turrets and get frightened
Yeah.
Welcome to all the new people on here. Dont go away guys, stay for the ride, get to know us, our banter and enjoy the experience. Hope we get to meet you all pre/post matches during the season.
Steve Morgan including the 20-30M in his statement is just another example of his complete misunderstanding of how football fans think. Now we have loads of supporters thinking that the new Billionaire owners are only going to spend that much. Thanks Steve.
One thing is clear Fosun has not become a multi national billion pound turnover business by taking business advice from people that sell them underperforming businesses – Morgan has sold Wolves because he was not capable of delivering his own business plan.
Wolves fans moaning today? Really?
I shall entertain no negativity whatsoever until it’s fully deserved by events. 20-30mill is quoted as a minimum and I’m confident more will be forthcoming if required. After all, why spend it if we don’t need to. Should we reach the Prem after two years, then I’m confident there will be considerably more to keep us there. No point in buying us otherwise.
Negativity? I’ve had a bellyful of that recently. No more.
Of course it will. Steve Showcase started the negativity. He tends to look at things that way lol.
INCOMING …….
Here here! Onwards and upwards. Some of the negativity astounds me, we have had years of bad desicisions this is definitely a step forward.
Great news the clubs got a lifeline at last.Good riddance to Moron Poxey &co.
KJs future unclear, I hope he’s gone asap too.
What’s a bit disappointing is the investment, surely £20_30 million is a descent sum of money to invest, but with the money they have between them its a bit meagre if they want to get us to promised land.not complaining though its a start. We’ll have to wait and see what they say come Monday.
Another thing I hope they get rid of that Horrible money shop logo too.UTW.
Talking about who might be a manager in waiting,Bro-inlaw and I were talking and he came up with Gary Nevell and Giggs’y could work .
I have repeated on this blog many times…
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! Jackett OUT !!!
2 out of 3 in one day isn’t bad..
20 to 30 million in 2 years is not enough to get promoted… need to double that and we have a chance..
By the way there is no official statement confirming any involvement by Mendes….
Onwards and Upwards…
I can’t tag your ‘incoming’ Brompton…
Loading …
I just see it for what it is..’we had Li ‘. and I don’t mean the Stu link …-Daily Mail even Telegraph..the Mendez guy and players that were coming who were worth more than the current team ffs..now we get told it’s the Triads PLC only with 20-30M..
That gets us half way- ish or with KJ at the helm strategy towards relegation ..
Ok so I’m exaggerating but my celebration is being diluted ..
The mere mention of KJ again looks like Gazza on a relapse syndrome ..
Call me negative then..
Brompton pressure Stu to post will you?..
A MINIMUM OF 20-30m mate A MINIMUM. Don’t take things so literally. As I said, I have a warm fuzzy feeling that they WILL spend as much as they need to get us up and keep us up. I am OPTIMISTIC and POSITIVE.
We did not HAVE Li, he was mentioned. When people get excited about what they hear they tend to become frustrated when it does not turn out that way. I always wait until confirmation and then get excited. I am excited about what we now have, and really look forward to the next 2 seasons, at the end of which I expect us to be in the Prem. The first season (in my opinion) will see our new owners establishing the club for a very bright future. The second season will see that established club deliver at a high level, and gain promotion. The third season will see us establishing ourselves in the Premiership and God knows what we may achieve in all future seasons. Could we see a repeat of the 50s? I am excited.
I WAS joking when I called you negative, I just wanted you to bite – as has been confirmed. Hope the pub is working out mate. I had a couple of friends who ran a pub and they worked their bollox off, so I hope it goes well for you.
Welcome Fosun group..ps. We need £50-£100M
Maybe the moaners would prefer to stick with Morgan and Moxey afterall seeing as today’s news has been such a disappointment? 😀
Getting promotion isn’t just about spending millions, although £20-30M should be enough in this duvision if spent properly. And then, if we get promoted, the investment will be there again but increased accordingly. A huge factor is having the right manager. KJ is going and I’m expecting the new guy to be announced on Monday. I’m really excited about who they might have lined up. Ryan Giggs would be very exciting and bring a lot to the club but I admit it would be a big risk. This is a tough division to get out of. So, let’s wait and see who the new manager is rather than bemoan the fact that we won’t be spending £100M on 5 players afterall!!!
A huge THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK to Fosun for taking on our beloved club and hopefully taking us back to the big time!
Here is my theory. There were at least two bids from rich Chinese. Li, with Mendes and Lopetegui and the winning bid.
For some reason, Morgan balked at the Li bid. There is a rumour that Li wanted the land across the street so they could move the street and expand the stadium and Morgan balked.
As soon as Li officially lost in his attempt to buy the team, Lopetegui was free to take the Spanish job and hence the timing of that announcement.
So all of the big money being spent and influx of Mendes’ players coming in will not happen. At least not the players.
Time to readjust your expectations.
Thanks Tim I have been shouted down on other forums for suggesting this..
Hit the nail on the Head..
It was clear from the Spanish guys that was the package..
M&M settled for 2nd best…
I sincerely hope it works out but as soon as the takeover was announced the coach immediately took the Spanish job as it wasn’t LI….
Would suggest we don’t get the Mendes involvement either. the figures quoted he wont touch..
Both M&M knew they wouldn’t be here so sold us down the river in favour of Fosun instead of LI..
Onwards and Upwards…
Foyo Culture and Leisure (a Fosun subsidiary) signed o memorandum of understanding with Jorge Mendes’s company in January. The Foyo CEO, Jeff Shi, led the negotiations. Shi is now our ‘representative’, i.e., Fosun’s man on our board and chairman.
The Mendes link was always with Fosun. But speculating reporters did not do their homework.
There was another Chinese bid but it was 2nd in the queue, and we never got there.
I was already aware of that link Nippy..
Doesn’t change my thinking..
The giveaway was Lopetegui taking the Spain job minutes after our announcement..
He was offered it 3 weeks ago and if he felt that strongly could have taken it then..
Another giveaway was his Statement. He had an agreement with us, reading between the lines but not with these owners
By the way there is no official statement confirming any involvement by Mendes….
Many Wolves fans I have spoken to believe there were always 2 bidders.
If Jorges Mendes is involved then it will also be interesting in what players come in.
This company is all about money. They bought us because we cost less than 50 mill, invest 30 mill and in 2 years they get 100 mill. No brainer.
Moxey didnt figure in thier plans so he was given chance to resign.
Jackett has no european network so they wont have him as manager.
These are serious money people and will have done their homework.
Once established in Premiership they will look at £ returns on the ground and then might develop if european football is on the horizon.
Think big picture lads cause thats what serious nen do.
Need to know what there plans are all we know so far is the guarantee they gave Morgan. But its not just all about
money. Derby have been big spenders and failed. Teams have spent less and gone up. Top players dont go to Championship clubs anyway. The manager/coach still has a big part to play.
Who would you like to see Col ?
I always thought big Sam would do a good job for us . And give the England job to klinsman.
Ryan Giggs.
Perfect place to prove himself.
Completely the wrong type of character. I will start with::: He could have been and England legend, but he chose Wales.
I always fancied that Big Sam life long fan and local lad would have done the business for us the guy has been al over the kip so knows all the ins and outs of the game. I will put my thinking cap on to ponder for a day or two. At the end of the day it does not matter who we the fans want, someone else will make that decision.
Interesting to read Tim and Nige. If they did turn down Li/Mendes/Lopetegui was it because the wouldn’t take KJ or have finally just gone mad.
If they were going to get 45 million from Li and accepted only 30 million from the other guy, then it must have been something substantial, if those pound figures were accurate.
Good question London most of the out of work managers have recently been snapped up. I would perhaps gamble on a young manager the important thing perhaps is if the first appointment fails they have the will and ambition to go again quickly. Something Morgan didnt really have. Sounds harsh but thats modern football.
Apparently, Mendes’ company was partially bought by a Fosun subsidiary so some of the players may still come to Wolves.
Wonder if Mendes was playing both sides of the coin. Trying to get the best deal for…..himself.
The Year of the Monkey has just become the Year of the Wolf! Last season we were going nowhere but this is definitely a shot in the arm. I am now looking forward to the new season with renewed hope.
We may struggle for some consistency early doors, particularly given the team’s current need for substantial reinforcements. I would hope that KJ stays on until Christmas to oversee the rebuilding and then we’ll see how things stand.
I’ll be interested to learn what role, if any, Jorge Mendes will play in the new set up. If none, we’ll need some proven players from the English market. A striker must be top of the list.
Finally, this opens up a whole new market to push the Wolves brand. My only concern would be if the new owners tried to reinvent the logo or change our team colours: I see that in China red is seen as a lucky colour and green and yellow are also favoured.
I have been very quiet over this but look back and I did say about 18 months ago lets have someone in with cash to spend. Now for the other over 65’s shall we reminisce. No as ever oward and up wards. Prem in 2 and challening in 5 yes please, no seriously yes please.
I would like to see Kenny stay, again a minority view. He’s always overachieved with minimum resources and been a great ambassador. Even to finish 14th in, arguably, the hardest league in the world when the best players have been sold, 5 academy players in the team and a club in turmoil is an achievement. I also thought Steve Morgan wasn’t the worst owner in the world, especially given the number of corrupt investors out there. Let’s see what happens now. What I sincerely hope is that the atmosphere at the ground improves , I live hundreds of miles away and work loads of weekends so can’t attend many matches but I hope it gets noisy again. Thanks for these wonderful intelligent blogs too
Gary neville??? Got stung with the Valencia job. But I’m sure it will click for him at somepoint. Suppose it just depends what managers mendes has on his books!!!
Ryan Giggs.
If I could find a bookies to take the bet I’d put money on it.
moxey gone will prove to be the major catalyst for our future this man may well have kept the club clean but his total lack of vision has also been one of the major reasons we have stagnated.he will not be missed by supporters.as time passes we will really see how bad a ceo this man was . Any one with any common sense can balance books by continually cutting costs to fit the overheads .for someone earning his salary you would have seriously expected a hell of a lot more than he delivered. All this man was ever bothered about was his wages and bonus, that folks is obvious.good riddens moxey go and retire because I will bet my mortgage you have received a payout to set you up for life ,we will never know and nor should we but you gone for good is equally as good as ridding ourselves of the utterly ruthless property developing Morgan who conned his way into our lives and along with you is now history ….the end of a totally disgracefull regime..we couldn’t possibly be any worse off if my granny had taken over and she always said she couldn’t understand a load of blokes kicking a bag of wind around so best of luck to the new owners and watch this space …..
Don’t worry about Poxey ,he’s got himself covered, 10% of 30 million = 3million laughing all the way to the bank.Git.
I would also back pedal a bit on the euphoria. Given the good facilities at Wolves, the lack of debt, the infrastructure already in place, we were always going to be an attractive off the peg purchase….
I’d like to see a bit more cash committed up front but more worrying, with agents involved, are we talking feeder club?
Still good to get put of the doldrums and feel a fresh wind in the sails, now all we need is players.
I don’t know why people think it’s going to take 2 years to get out of this division . There were times in the last two seasons when we could have taken the title but the correct decisions were not made .
Fuck me . We did 18 years in it then 3 away and now another 3 with a year brake!
We know this division better than anyone . We know how to win it and we know what it’s like to drop thro it . We are championship experts and we know exactly where we need to strengthen to win it . It’s just that has been no will to do so ( for some really odd reason )
Well now we have the financial muscle and the experience and win it we shall . This season .
Piss off villa .. And Newcastle . Wait till your ex prem stars are getting slid into touch by some Birmingham city cart horse in December or some donkey from m k dons miss times a tackle and snaps your knee Ligament in half ( I know they went down !) . And I have put my money where my mouth is !
Almost exactly twelve months ago Chinese conglomerate Fosun launched a €500m (£354m) takeover of merchant bank BHF Kleinwort Benson in a bid to introduce the country’s wealthy citizens to European firms; not sure there is much compatibility with our latest shirt sponsor!!
Still a lot of avid fans out there for KJ. Interesting calling cards ‘its a minority view but,’ ‘lack of backing’, ‘threadbare Squad’, ‘buliding’ etc.
Some of which we all get but when you scrutinize does it all hold up. He used more players than any other Championship manager. For the first half of the season he had the services of a 10 million pound striker he sometimes preferred not to use – and what was he building ? by the end of season the players were all either injured or just dazed and confused. The bottom line is a lot of fans, Thomas included, just like him. Thats ok but its not an attraction i share.
The best news today is not the takeover but that the F4t Fvck3r Jez Moxey is leaving! At last my prayers have been answered. May he rot in hell! If only we could line up outside Molineux and give his fat ass the kicking it deserves! Praise the lord, free at last, free at last. Thank god almighty we are free at last.
UP THE WOLVES!
As of Now Folks the ONLY thing we have different to Yesterday is 2 Chinese blokes instead of M&M… Nothing more.. oh and they have 20 Million to spend but they don’t know what on..
We still have the same Manager and Squad going to Rotherham…
Think we should hold back on the Champagne until we hear Mondays Plan…
He s got a nice arse tho
“Our goal is crystal clear: we will do our very best to help take Wolves back to the Premier League as soon as possible and to stay there. We believe the Club and the fans belong at the top of English football and getting there is our first and top priority”.
PART OF FOSUN STATEMENT TODAY.
At least the takeover explained why it was so difficult to buy my Rotherham ticket on line this morning. On the face of it we are now owned by very wealthy Chinese businessmen, who had they said they were going to spend “whatever it takes” or say £50 million a year, then watch while the prices of the players we were trying to buy went through the roof.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating of course, and player and manager issues will surely be dealt with very quickly.
Given Morgan didn`t have the appetite to invest in the club itself, and had put the for sale sign up well before the parachute payments, and the Afobe sales revenue were spent on keeping the club solvent, this takeover hardly deserves criticism at this stage, and the takeover only makes financial sense for the new owners unless premiership status is achieved, hopefully at the end of the coming season.
I thought that was his face
Clearly some people believe there is a clear plan of getting us to the promised land… we should find out what it is on Monday..
Whatever we quote the new owners of saying it wont be a lot different to what the owners said when they brought Blues, Leeds, Forrest… etc…
Would be interesting to know who people think we might appoint as manager and who we might buy ???
My good lady wife …. Mrs l w l
Thinks us chaps think about sex every ten seconds …
Wrong .!,,
I think about the wolves every about 5 seconds
So, you keep a picture of your right hand in your wallet, and look at it every ten seconds?
she was right then. Wolves every 5 seconds and sex every 10 seconds.
I have a few questions.
1. Who will actually be in charge of footballing decisions? Someone with football knowledge and experience has to appoint a manager who is up for, and up to, the job.
Is it the Chinese representative, and if so, where has his football expertize come from?
2. What type of player can we expect to sign? Will it be fringe Prem players, who are in the squads of such clubs as Chelsea, Arsenal, United etc. etc, but don’t get regular first team football, will it be Prima Donnas from Europe who rate themselves higher than any one else does, or will it be scrapings from lower leagues?
3. Who can we realistically expect as manager?
Jackett has to go, his decisions last season were baffling and mind blowingly crazy with regard to selection, tactics and substitutes.
But, who is going to advise the new owners of the manager’s failings, and who is going to say a new bloke will be any better? I am not putting forth any suggestions, just posing some, for me, well thought out queries.
4. Finally, the biggest question of all, and probably the one reason I am “sorry” to see the backside of greasel,…………who the fuck am I going to have as a target for all my pent up frustration, hatred, vitriol and rantings?
Is it going to be like the upcoming Presidential election over here. Trump or Lying bitch are the two choices, and whichever gets “elected”, within a few days there will be pictures of Obama with the caption underneath “Miss Me Yet?”
No, I’m just messing!!!
This is one of those days, when we can look back on with pride and pump out our chests and say ” I was there. Sort of”
Kind of like Chorley, and the ten million fans who were there, supposedly.
With the kind of money these guys have, in the immortal words of Ed Harris, “Failure is not an option”
( name the movie)
I will raise a glass or seven to the footballing dogs and offer up a huge fuckin’ Thank You.
GREASEL IS NO MORE!!!
Yippeee Kai Aye, M….. F…..!!!!
Clive, You can have a go at me old son. I was made in the Black Country in 1950 born in 1951 with wrinkles rhino hide as skin, so bullets might do the job but a few words nah mate that’s never going to work. LOL only kidding. To all my mates who support EPL teams a few words of warning. “We’re coming to get you”
So, it appears that Lopetegui WAS coming in as manager but ditched us when offered the Spain job.
knobhead.. I think he made the wrong decision!
Changing things especially in the short term will def. Shake it all up but all the excitement needs tempering asunreallistic expectations will resume the poisonous atmosphere…man city have taken years to get where they are since the takeover..whats needed is a good community spirit together with entertaining football….and beer of course
What about Gary Neville ? (and i havent forgotten when he kicked the ball at the Wolves fans but hey thats our rep).
Just seen a report on Sports Mole saying Poxey is in line for CEO at Norwich.
Whilst my Ipswich supporting son-in-law would enjoy that joke, surely Delia would never allow Poxey’s bitch to get her hands on the pies at Norwich.
Whatever happens in the medium/long term, at least this morning, I have hope. And that’s been in pretty short supply of late. So I’m grateful for that and shall bask in it’s warmth whilst it’s here.
After the euphoria of getting an outcome to these months (years) of frustration, the questions emerge of course. Not much original to add after the 100+ comments that have cascaded into the blog since the announcement and Clive sets most of them out in his eloquent way above – and I have no doubt he’ll quickly identify some poor bastard as the target!
1 – is there any real understanding of this historical and famous club, as they rightly called it and can they effectively embrace it?
2 – is there a real footballing passion or are we another investment vehicle?
3 – the money quoted is less than we thought. It’s enough for promotion, IF we get the right players in.
4 – the right players won’t necessarily be the ones that line Jorge Mendes’ pockets.
5 – so what about a manager? I was never convinced that parachuting Lopetwhatsit in would end in Championship delight. Who’s out there who we could be confident about? Giggs and Neville are mentioned above – nice idea but unproven. Will big investors take a chance on unproven and if not, who’s out there?
6 – in overseeing all this, who will fill the shoes of our experienced, highly effective, much loved CEO? OK, I’m losing it now.
Questions like this will have me cast as one of the doubters – not at all. This is about as good an outcome as we could have hoped for in modern football. It’s just that wise footballing business doesn’t always follow the money. No need to quote the examples! So far I’m optimistic though. Yippppppppeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like quite a few others I was underwhelmed by the 20-30 million over two years but at least it will be an investment as opposed to selling players to balance the books. We have a decent squad when players come back from injury (injuries which so severely dented our prospects last season). With the additional investment and the right manager it should be enough to gain promotion.
Plus I cannot see a company as successful as Fosun allowing Wolves to stagnate in the Championship. A place in the EPL is surely their minimum requirement, especially if they want to raise Wolves profile so that it gains the attention of Chinese football fans (who, if my Chinese in-laws are anything to go by, do not recognise the name any team not in the EPL).
So lets sit back and enjoy the ride (not too much of a roller-coaster hopefully).
Steve Bruce just resigned from Hull.
NO, NO, NO. I do NOT want Bruce at Wolves – EVER.
Yep – I’ve just seen the Bruce news. Not by any chance connected with Mendes, is he? He would almost certainly get us out of the Championship, but that’s about it and not very visionary in this takeover scenario.
Gutted that over 100 other bloggers have commented before me on what is one of the biggest sporting events in the whole history of sporting events.
I was chilling out yesterday evening in the campervan on Freshwater West beach with only the PMDG’er, a few seagulls, a couple of spaced out surfer dudes and my new Cajon for company.
Some alcohol might have been involved as well but the days of the ‘waccy’ are behind me now for obvious reasons.
Welsh bloggers will need no introduction to Freshwater West – one of the most beautiful spots on God’s Earth.
Fellow percussionists will need no introduction to the Cajon – how much fun can you have beating the shit out of a wooden box with a hole in it?
I think that most relevant, and irrelevant, points have been raised and put to bed by the 100+ previous comments.
Suffice to say that the roller coaster is on the up and is approaching the summit.
Let’s just hope that it stays on the rails when the exciting bit starts.
Hands in the air everyone, and no screaming!!
One thing worries me though.
If Kenny Jackett goes, what am I going to find to argue about with Steve Showcase?
Oh! Never mind. I’m sure we’ll think of something.
