Things went from bad to worse for Tottenham Hotspurs yesterday as Wolves managed to beat the London side at their own ground.

The Premier League is undoubtedly one of the most competitive in the world, which is why shock defeats like this matchup can regularly happen. However, given the kind of form that Spurs have been in recently, it might be unlikely that most would have been surprised by the way the game unfolded on Sunday. Those who had been aware of the woes troubling Spurs of late might have even attempted a risky bet against Spurs, something that clearly would have paid off. Football holds massive importance to the betting scene, but those who want a change might also prefer playing at sites like casino genie as this offers them an alternative gambling experience.
Those who have been following football for a while will know that yesterday’s result is not in keeping with the character of Spurs’ manager, Antonio Conte. Yesterday marked the first time in three years where the Italian has lost three games in a row and he will have been frustrated to earn that record as he shouted and screamed from the touchline. This is not to say that Spurs did not try – the team registered 17 shots on goal by the time the match finished. However, on the day, it seemed that Spurs’ best simply was not good enough.
This victory has raised discussion about Wolves being genuine top four contenders seeing as how the team has now moved into seventh place, above Spurs. To show how competitive this area of the table is right now, Manchester United are only three points in front of Wolves and they sit 5th, showing that it will not take a lot for Wolves to progress even further up the table. This season, the teams that are contending for top four seem to be falling over themselves all the time, meaning that consistency will be instrumental for those who want to grab a Champions League spot this year. Looking at the competition, it is clear that there are teams of more quality compared to Wolves. Despite this, no one will underestimate the team’s conviction or desire to win, especially after Sunday’s game.
Looking at the season thus far, it is clear that Wolves’ main strength has been their excellent defence. As it stands now, they have conceded 17 goals, which is surpassed only by Manchester City, the current league leaders and arguably one of the best teams in the world at the moment. However, when set pieces are taken out of this equation and only open goals are considered, then Wolves have conceded the least number of goals in the Premier League. Much of this might be attributed to newly signed goalkeeper Jose Sa, who just happens to have the best save percentage in the whole league.
Wolves are clear Champions League contenders and have been chasing the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and United all season. If Wolves can carry on producing results like the one seen on Sunday, there is no reason why they can’t be playing in the Champions League next season.
