With the new season just over a month away I’m contemplating a redesign of Wolves Blog, but I’m somewhat nervous about tinkering with the tried and tested format.
So if anyone can take the time to answer the following questions, I’d very much appreciate your feedback. You can leave answers in the comment section or email them to me directly (tom@thomasbaughmedia.com).
Design
1. Would you like to keep the Wolves Blog banner (the ‘It’s a blog. About the Wolves’ with picture of Kightly)?
2. Should we swap the picture of Kightly for something more up-to-date?
3. Would you prefer a black text on a white background to make reading the posts easier?
4. How easy do you rate the comment system to use?
5. Do you ever encounter problems with the Wolves Blog site (slow loading, error messages, etc)?
6. What do you like most about the current design of Wolves Blog?
7. What do you dislike the most about the current design of Wolves Blog?
Content
7. Would you like to see anything added to match reports next season? For example, player ratings, more in-depth tactical analysis, etc.
8. Would like to see the ‘Wolves Blog Poll’ reinstated?
9. What kind of posts do you most enjoy reading on Wolves Blog?
10. Do you have any suggestions for ways we could improve the content we offer?
Any further comments/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Thomas

1. No (stale) Update to Fletcher posing after the albion goal.
2. as above.
3. No it would hurt my eyes. Black BG is best.
4. V. Good (you don’t have to keep logging in)
5. No. easy to use.
6. I like the black background as it is easy to read without hurting your eyes.
7. The picture above is stale and needs Fletch premier league JPG in its place.
8. Not fussed about the poll but I seemed to have not won the home shirt 🙁
9. Transfers, players and upcoming games posts
10. Yes send me that home shirt you said you would in the competition! lol
The guy who won the shirt still hasn’t returned my message on Facebook.
I’ll give him another week and if I don’t hear, I’ll re-draw it.
🙂
:)) hope its me!! hehe cheers thomas
I did forewarn fair-weather FB friends!
im pretty new to this site but for me it is the best one, very user friendly and generally lots of realistic banter and discussions for me its more of the same if you please
Thanks. Very kind words.
Change the picture to one of me, Mark Davies , Scooped and Bully playing golf!
Yes, Ward, our super striker, celebrating his only goal of the last 4 years at Anfield.
Black with old gold letters, of course.
If I can use it, then it’s perfect.
Only when I try to type fast.
You let me use it.
You let me use it!!!
No, keep it simple, all the ratings etc will come from us when we lose!
No
Mine.
Make sure all our comments and suggestions get passed on to Mr. Morgan, especially the ones about firing Moxey and McCarthy!!!
FOMM
Stop trying to make out Ward’s useless, Clive. I’ve told you before, he’s actually scored 4 goals in 4 years. That’s much better.
Only sometimes do I use this website on any other place other than my mobile, but I love it.
I think the picture should be Fletcher too.
As for posts, since Paddytheflea disappeared, I think you should do transfer rumours, pre and post match in-depth analysis, as well as profiles of players linked to us. That would all be useful.
has he disappeared or is he just lying low over the summer? he’s more into match reports and line up predictions than transfer tittle tattle. He updated his site last about a month ago. Anyone have any idea where he is?
PADDY!!! ARE YOU STILL OUT THERE???
bout to say… has to be Wardy in the pic surely?
format’s great
Blog is excellent: content, style and quality of biasness. Only one thing I would improve upon – could we have at least one blog a day? I know comments go on and it can take a day or two to get discussion going, but i’d still prefer reading even more blogs….
A blog a day is something we’re aiming for, but both Ben and I have full-time jobs (believe it or not) so we’d probably need a third writer to make it work.
To be fair, during the season with all the pre and post match reports, combined with the usual blogs, we get a fair few up.
Summers are a bit of a holiday!
Thanks for the kind words mate.
If you need someone else to write mate I’m back in the country again and would like to get back into blogging occasionally. I can’t make many games unfortunately but If you’re interested give me a shout!
I think the blog is perfect as it is Thomas, if anything maybe an updated picture – a close up of Ward’s EEEEEEnormous hooter should suffice.
One thin I’d like to change is the inability to just leave one word as a comment. After some of the performances last season, the only thing I wanted to write was”WANK” as it described it perfectly yet alas I was unable to do so which the spearheaded a rant, probably aimed at McGoo.
I can’t seem to find the specific setting that states the minimum number of words you have to enter. It’s now on my list of things to do though Jed, rest assured.
1. Would you like to keep the Wolves Blog banner (the ‘It’s a blog. About the Wolves’ with picture of Kightly)?
Get a picture of the team laughing or something like that, but try to get as many people in it as possible (espeically O’hara, SEB, Doyle etc.)
2. Should we swap the picture of Kightly for something more up-to-date?
Look above
3. Would you prefer a black text on a white background to make reading the posts easier?
No.
4. How easy do you rate the comment system to use?
very
5. Do you ever encounter problems with the Wolves Blog site (slow loading, error messages, etc)?
Nope
6. What do you like most about the current design of Wolves Blog?
The black background
7. What do you dislike the most about the current design of Wolves Blog?
It needs some more Wolves logos/ wolves photos or something in the grey part of the background to make it more attractive visually
Content
7. Would you like to see anything added to match reports next season? For example, player ratings, more in-depth tactical analysis, etc.
FIne
8. Would like to see the ‘Wolves Blog Poll’ reinstated?
Yes
9. What kind of posts do you most enjoy reading on Wolves Blog?
Match pre/after reports
10. Do you have any suggestions for ways we could improve the content we offer?
Try discussing more transfer rumours
Like the idea of doing something with the grey background. I’ll defo look into that. Great shout.
Thanks for the kind words.
Keep the banner but a picture of Merlin/Big George/both would be smashing
White text on black background works fine for me, as does comments section
I don’t think player ratings would improve the match reports. I like reading the match reports here as they tend to feature insights that are missed by more general, mainstream press match reports
I like the ‘how many points will wolves win in this month/run of fixtures?’ polls
See if you can bag some player/staff interviews! I reckon this has the status of leading fans’ blog by now. I’d pay a subscription fee for a live Q&A with Wardy
Polls will be coming back. I might just do one at the start of every month as you suggest, getting people to predict the points haul.
1 I love it saying its a blog. About the wolves.
2 any picture choice is contentious, is there ANYONE we’d all agree on other than Bully? Perhaps the new North Bank?
3 no preference
4 very easy to use, sometimes get a bit confused who replied to which post, especially on the mobile version of the site. Sometimes I just want to ‘like’ a post like on FB – would that be possible?
5 I did once, but I emailed u and u fixed it. Thanks for that!
6 like the black and gold
7 nothing
7 if I want to read tactical analysis I read paddy the flea. This blog is for opinion, debate and emotion.
8 polls are pretty cool
9 intelligent, honest, opinionated, thought provoking stuff that you don’t get on the sanitised / unsophisticated sites elsewhere.
10 I was gonna say more frequent posts, but then thought that sometimes a new post can come too soon and move the debate on before it’s run its course, so I guess its a point about gettin a good balance. Clutching at straws really, This site is my favourite thing about the internet.
Thanks for the kind words sleachy.
We did used to have a ‘Like on Facebook’ button but nobody used it so we binned it. I might bring it back.
I think the site’s pretty much fine as it is. Looks, content, ease of use are all great. I do agree with most that the picture needs updating, celebrating goals against WBA or Hunts on the last day would be good. They’re probably most people’s best memories of last season. I really like it when you get an opposition fans percpective, more of that please.
What about a predictions league for next season for games other than wolves, maybe pick 5 games a week that we all have to predict the score for. It could get some good banter going. I stopped predicting wolves scores last season because every time i had us to win we’d lose. I don’t like betting on wolves games.
Also, could you make it impossible for anyone in Houston to access the site, lol.
And I love you too, Nick!!!!!!
get a bloody room. god it’s like mccarthy and ward over here
I’d like to expand the predictions league, but it can be a bit of ballache to update the tables every week, as well doing the blogs and other general upkeep. Rather than bringing in other teams, I might add more stuff about our own matches such as scorers, half-time/full-time outcome, etc.
Thanks for the kind words.
Change/update the header picture; reinstate the poll.
Otherwise, it ain’t broke: don’t fix it!
Definitely new picture Thomas. Personally, i would have liked it changed a while ago and would like it updated more often. My suggestion for now is O’Hara scoring against you know who….. the best moment in last year’s season imo. Plus he’s a very popular player at the moment.
I also would like to be able to leave just one word as Jed said, probably with an extra er on the end every time SW keeps a footballer out of the team.
Occasionally also, you send a reply which gets lost in the ether and you have to do it all again.
Part from that mate, it’s gorgeous and perfect!
I’d definitely change the picture but certainly DO NOT change the way the comment system works. I used to use Teamtalk a lot until they introduced a system where when you reply to a comment you had to expand a second box to reveal the response comments – so you could only see the main comments. This is perfect how it is and I like the white on black approach.
Thanks for the feedback on the comment system. The only thing I worry about is the boxes getting progressively smaller. Doesn’t often happen but occasionally a box becomes ridiculously small.
I think Ben should get paid for providing such incisive comment. That’s my only comment really. He’s the greatest blogger of all. I love the handsome devil.
I wish my Mrs was so supportive. I get comments like “you’re not reading that bloody Wolves site again are you? Why don’t you watch this man getting his mouldy weiner chopped off on Embarrassing Bodies with me?”
That Ben’s Mrs comment might not have been typed by my Mrs’ fair fingers Sleach! She is is more of the persuasion of yours, rolling her eyes when I go on the blog for the umpteenth time. God love her!
Nothing Thomas. Don’t change a thing – apart from the picture. Unless you want to make money.
