What a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
A five goal thrashing, the return of Jody and Karl Henry, and the road to Wembley continues with Paulie Robinson and Disco Dale Dingle.
The last time I was in the South Bank for a competitive game, we lost 5-0 at home to Barnsley in 1991 in front of a similarly sparse Molineux.
Twenty years on and we had a 5 goal thrashing to savour with a performance full of pluses – if not Paul Stancliffe and a ridiculous own goal!

Anyone who thinks Mick isn’t taking the cup seriously need look at the starting line-up, with Fletcher and Doyle up front, and Stearman, Zubar and Hunt also figuring.
Hunt and Doyle combined for the first after 5 mins, with the former whipping a cross onto Fletcher’s head who then promptly found the far corner.
From that moment on, we were in complete control and visibly superior to Doncaster all over the pitch.
Shame we had to wait until the second half for the floodgates to really open, when we’re attacking the end furthest from our vantage point! (incidentally, why do we never attack the South Bank end the second half like Liverpool do the Kop end?)
Mujangi Bia grabbed a goal to make up for his horror miss in the first half – capping another impressive outing – and Doyle soon added to the scoreline with a wonderful solo effort from a tight angle.
Then there was time for Jarvis to come off the bench to score with aplomb past Sullivan, before the cool, calm figure of David Jones underlined a pretty faultless performance with a 5th on full time.
Yet despite so much attacking intent, it was players elsewhere on the pitch who really caught the eye.
Mouyokolo, operating at right back, looked the real deal in defence with an exemplary showing, while Zubar displayed customary power and panache as a makeshift left back.
Then there was Jody, slotting back into the heart of our defence like he’d never been away.
The team looked balanced and what’s more, it looked bloody big, tall and imposing.
Put it like this, I wouldn’t be unhappy to see an eleven like this again, whoever the opposition.
Our squad is undoubtedly stronger than ever before under Mick.
A few more showings like this and it will have some confidence levels to match.
Well done Wolves!

Ward not starting, 5 goals, none conceded, need I say more???
Bring on the pool, bet Doncaster showed more fight than Liverpool will!!
Come on Kenny, gizza 3 points!!
Name that tv series.
FOMM
‘Boys from the black stuff.’ Gizza 3 pints.
Unbridled optimism from Ben! Not a Smiths song title in sight! I need to sit down.
Sounds like a top performance. Well played the lads.
PS. I say let’s give Mujangi-Bia a start against Liverpool.
Can’t remember the last time we really dicked anybody whatever league. Brilliant stuff. I was asking for a strong team in the cup, a cup run will do us good. If we stay up it will be a decent season, if we ge to Wembley as well it would be a fantastic one. You’ve got to keep going till we get there Ben. Glad to see my man Mujanji did well(and scored again). Be interested to know Ben, do you think Zubar could play left back permanently if Mouyokolo looked the part at right back, or is that too much to hope for. And Mujangi, is he ready for the first team yet?
Hi Martin, I do think Zubar left back could work. If Mouyokolo offers more of the same from the other side then we’ve got a massive, powerful back 4 proposition. If mouyokolo does begin to figure (similar scenario to zubes last season) then it will be a huge boost. I remember Dave Jones banging on about height and presence when he was boss, refering to the Arsenal invincibles and how big they were. It wud be nice to see so many big quick tall guys in our tunnel too. (henry, fletcher and Doyle all 6ft too?). Not that size matters too much, my wife says!
She sounds a kind lady.
All seems quite positive….I’ll get my coat.
The result capped off a really good day overall, but at 4-0, we were so on top and with a drive back to Chesterfield to follow, I was already thinking of leaving early, something I am usually reluctant to consider.
However and it may seem a little churlish, but when Ward was warming up I thought this is the time to leave. surely MM could have brought somebody else on. The young Belgian looks a more natural forward with pace than Ward will ever be, and both full backs offered far more with their power and pace, so surely some young lad could haver been chucked on for the last 15 minutes to get some experience. I may even have stayed to watch.
Totally changing the subject, my wife hired an Eastern European maid the other day.
Took her 5 hours to hoover the house.
Turns out she was a Slovak.
And while we are on the subject of partying, I was asked to a really swank do the other day, and was told to dress to kill.
A turban, kaftan, long beard and backpack didn’t go down too well.
Have a nice day y’all, I’m saving my money to buy Martin a six pack.
FOMM
To replace my party pack, brilliant! Heard you bought your wife a new bag and belt for her birthday. Is the hoover working better now?
if Zubar and Mouyokolo impressed in the full-back positions, what chance of them maintaining the slots for Saturday?
Zubar down the left, Mouyokolo down the right.
Most likely Zubar right, Ward left I suspect, but Mick must have been trying Mouyokolo there for a reason. After all, he could easily have given Stearman the night off and played Mouyokolo in the middle.
Speaking of full-backs, anyone else seen George is on Twitter?

…gotta love the guy.
Not exactly square pegs for square holes though! A right back playing left back, a centre half playing right back?
Zubar has had a couple of decent attempts on goal recently – I fully expect MM to try him up front soon!
A nice five goals last night zero conceded great performance by the lads by all accounts.I think zubar is left footed so why can’t he play leftback that will solve a problem, keep out bignose from the LB it might help us not to concede, put foley rightback where i think he does a better job…. going back to last night stopped up to watch highlights.what highlights all the f..king ITV SPORTS showed was the clay heads .+.taffs .city + leicester what aload of crap that was.Anyway lets get back to the real business of the prem, the mighty fallen
Reds.lets hope we can get the double over them the same as the tangerines did get us out bottom three.lets get at um.
What a strange feeling to not be going into the last 10 minutes a nervous wreck. The first thrashing we’ve handed out since we beat Forest when Big Chris Iwelumo was banging them in. Mick said about two years ago it was coming!
In fact, not to have a moan, but we don’t enjoy big wins very often at all. Biggest win for 8 years. The way Liverpool are going at the moment, maybe we’ll repeat it on Saturday!
I’ll settle for 4, let’s not be greedy!!!
What a great morale boosting win, Donny are not a bad side either.
