Ironic that ‘Insomnia’ by Faithless was blaring on the PA system moments before the teams took to the field, when most of us haven’t had a wink of shut-eye since Saturday night.
In a performance that restored the faith and a 10-point gap to third, Wolves put on another midweek masterclass to suggest that if there is a wobble at the summit, then it’s not as debilitating as some might think – including me.
Being billed as our first genuine ‘six-pointer’ of the season on Radio WM, the pundits couldn’t have imagined quite how prophetic their words were, with Aston Villa losing the three we all thought they’d plunder against QPR, as we chalked up three more to put us in the exact same position we were at 5.30pm in Birmingham the other night.
After five minutes, the game assumed an glorified attack v defence drill with Reading sitting deep, shuffling banks of players left and right in a collective effort to frustrate. After 10 minutes, their keeper was actually wasting time. After 40 minutes, the game was over.
Matt Doherty’s bonce released the pressure valve around Molineux, which might just have become audible had the score remained at 0-0 for much longer.
As it was, this was the most processional victory since…Reading last season come to think of it, with John Ruddy never tested and the back three rarely occupied. On the rare occasions they were, Ryan Bennett looked particularly easy on the eye and slotted back in like he’d never been away. Any fears of Jon Dadi notching his first ever goal at Molineux were allayed, or Dave Edwards scuffing one in as Reading showed absolutely no intent to attack for the entire 90mins. Both were impotent and barely noticeable.
If there was one criticism to be levelled at Wolves (and it would be a tad harsh to do so), then the levels of urgency and purpose could have been higher for a fair chunk of the first half and it was noticeable how the momentum was seized in the second period, with Costa definitely looking to be more assertive on the ball. It was he who set-up Afobe brilliantly for the second, the striker surely feeling good about life and looking more like his old self. And Cavaleiro occupied the types of positions that even the most defensive minded of sides struggle to cover.
A blot on the evening was the loss of Jota, who looked in agony when going down under a seemingly innocuous challenge in the first half. We can only hope it is not a serious one, but the blow might just be offset with a return to form of Costa, who did form part of a menacing front line with Afobe and Cav. Surely all three have plenty of miles in the tank, too.
As it was, the evening was rounded off by a splendid Doherty strike to seal the points – and the best night’s sleep we’ve all had in ages.

Amen to that.
Woke up in a cold sweat at 130am on Sunday.
Slept like a baby last night.
Pleased Afobe got his start and goal. 2 in 3 apps now, so he should be up and running and hopefully can maintain this goal scoring form over the next few weeks.
Bennet is one of the players of the season. A free signing and a assured presence at the back. BBC is our best back 3.
A win v Burton is crucial to maintain our lead going into the final push.
Hope Jota will be ok.
Fine performance from the lads, no doubt helped by the insipid nature of the opposition, who hoped from the start to do little other than cling on to what they had.
I don’t go in for slagging off individuals so won’t start now because they all played really well. I thought Ruben Neves though, produced an absolute masterclass of quality passing and energetic and aggressive harrying to completely take over the midfield.
Pleased for Benik to get his goal and for Matt (who also played brilliantly) to get his two. Got home at 2am still buzzin’, and will be till Burton, and me, roll up at the Mol’ on Saturday. 🙂
Tbh i think Jota going off did Wolves a favour, he is out of form and Cav was part of all 3 goals. Great to see Afobe back and scoring…Please don’t put Bonatini near the first team again.
Last comment on Bonatini a bit unfair, his link up play is excellent & the ball he put through to set Costa up with just the keeper to beat was quality.
With Jota out we will need Bonatini. Assuming that is Jota doesn’t recover, it did look a bad injury though.
Being cautious beyond measure I think 6 wins from 9. That’s assuming Villa & Fulham don’t lose another point. Still a way to go, but last night an excellent response to the Villa defeat.
Team kept its shape, Neves balls through for Douglas & to Costa for the Afobe goal were sublime. Some standout individuals like Costa, Doherty, Bennett & Neves but a real solid team effort against a very anodyne opposition.
I totally agree with your thoughts on Leo, Allen. I know he’s struggling for a goal, but i think his link up play is important to keep our fluidity going forward.
Thought Bennett was excellent (apart from his long range shot lol!) and I still don’t understand why Danny replaced him against Villa – was he injured/ill?
Good professional performance against a thoroughly negative and boring side.
UTW!
I heard he ran over Nuno’s cat !
Thanks for that, Whitley – it’s all starting to make sense now!
No h In Witley Taff, spelt the same as witless, as the dear Amanda use to refer to me.
Sorry, mate. There’s a place 5 miles from me with an “h” in it, so I was obviously in local mode!
BTW I agree 100% with your Leo comments below – a very underrated and wrongly maligned player imo.
Bonneti wears the shirt with pride and without his goals this season, we may not have been top of the pile today, I rate his contribution to our team very highly, thats why Nouno , whos watchers every training session daily, picks the best avalable to him. C O Y W.
‘Reassuringly shit’ is how I would describe Reading’s performance.
As you say mate, any fear of the old boys coming back to hurt us drifted away once it became apparent they had little interest in crossing the halfway line. I thought Barrow and Aluko might get at us but again, they were stifled in the possession-heavy, intent-light tactics of their manager.
My old man thought we were poor first half, which I couldn’t get my head around given that we spent the whole 45 camped around their penalty area. Just needed that first goal to settle the nerves and it was easy from there. The second half was training ground stuff and we should have had 5 at least.
Bennett really is light years ahead of Batth. That should really be that in terms of tinkering with the back three assuming a clean bill of health.
Neves was spectacular again and Doherty has discovered the end product that’s been lacking in his otherwise consistent performances. Surely both he and Douglas will now get the international caps they should have had months, if not years, ago?
We’ve got to press on now and despatch Burton by whatever means necessary. It then asks a big question of Villa in the 5.30pm kick off at Bolton and Cardiff at Derby on Sunday, potentially leaving us in a great position going into a tough game at Boro.
The restoration of normal service wasn’t all that was achieved last night.
I haven’t seen or heard from a vile being all morning and dont expect to for a while.
I am surrounded by those moronic cretins and have had a torrid few days i can tell you.
Monday in my office i was visited by 4 of the imbeciles 2 of them with their index finger on their lips telling me to schhh and the other 2 grinning idiots wanting money … Yes i very nearly punched them.
Where are they now ???? surprise surprise … vanished just like their auto promo chances HA !
3 points on Saturday for us and them to get beaten at Bolton and i shall put a sign up on the elms island.. not quite sure what to put on it yet but suggestions will be more than welcome.
coyw
How’s that for heavy irony?
Jota has been kicked up in the air, elbowed in the face, punched, slapped and generally assaulted by the massed ranks of cloggers in this division and got up, brushed himself down and proceeded to make them all look rather silly.
Last night, an innocuous looking incident leaves him quite badly hurt and having to leave the field.
It looks like he’ll be out for a while.
The International break is, for a change, quite well timed.
Great to see us back to somewhere near our best and SCORING GOALS!
As good as our performance was, the thing that made me happiest last night was Veeeeeeela getting stuffed at home.
All those fans bigging up Jack bloody Grealish as the best player in the Championship – what a larf!
To be the best player in this division you have to perform at a high level CONSISTENTLY, not just when the mood takes you.
We have a few players that fit that description – Villa don’t.
Most of all Jack bloody Grealish.
He’ll just have to learn to pull his socks up.
Jack Greaseball? The only time he ever does a slick pass is when he heads the ball and it comes into contact with all that oil.
A quick look at the table shows that exactly half the teams (down to Leeds) in the league can no longer catch us. A win against Burton and another 2 or 3 get on the list.
Time to keep counting them off.
On paper we have the easier run in, but some of those teams will be scrapping for their lives and will not make things easy for us, as opposed to Reading who looked totally outclassed.
(What happened to the team that made the play offs last year?)
My (our?) one concern is Warnock. I really want to go up as Champions not runners-up after this superb season. The away fixture at Cardiff is HUGE.
me too, Paul, we must go up as champions. I’m hoping for a slip up or two from Cardiff, and ideally that we give them a good beating ourselves.
Excellent performance and result and thought the crowd did their bit too from first whistle to last.
From my position in the North Bank the injury to Jota didn’t look at all the result of an innocuous tackle but rather looked like a bad tackle by the Reading player and all those around me were surprised the player wasn’t yellow carded at the very least – were we mistaken?
Delighted for Benik Afobe who for me must start every game from now to the end of the season. Clive (from Houston) had just just messaged me to say ‘Afobe is useless and hadn’t done a thing’ (or words to that effect) when he scored. Afobe I mean not Clive. Mind you I don’t know what Clive was getting up to as you can’t tell on ‘whatsapp’. That for me is why he (Afobe not Clive) must be in the team – he scores goals. 2 goals in his recent one start and two substitute appearances.
Thought the defence was back to its best without Batth and with Coady restored as captain though obviously Reading’s attack was more powder puff than powder keg. Ruddy seemed calmer too.
Doherty was superb and both Saiss and Costa were very good though for me, once again, the shining light was Ruben Neves. What a player. Everything about him just oozes class – his control, his tackling, his covering, his vision, his energy and of course his passing. Last season when I was regularly berated and ridiculed for criticising dear old Dave Edwards and saying that I wanted ‘footballers’ not headless chickens well Neves was what I meant.
More of the same – and the same starting line up (Cav for Jota if injury dictates) – on Saturday please and with Warnocks cloggers hopefully being at least held to a draw at Derby we may see the gap widen again to 5 points over 2nd place and 10 over 3rd place.
OODCL
Good win good performance lets hope Jota can recover during international break. Reading were poor I blogged earlier that I thought the Burton game would be more difficult Reading seemed to have proved me right.
Come on me Babies hold your nerve we are nearly there….!
Why was Bennet left out of the Villa game ? Had he played, rather than DB I doubt we would have lost. Our problems there largely stemmed from DB`s gross incompetence.
Bennet is just about everything needed for the Championship — hard as nails, good in the air, strong in the tackle, fully committed and totally reliable. When he is in the side, the other two central defenders seem infinitely more comfortable. Results speak for themselves.
Nice guy he may well be, but DB is simply not good enough at this level. He is is a disaster endlessly waiting to happen — a Division one performer at best. In my view he should not even be on the bench, with both Hause and Miranda being better alternatives.
I would also remark that Sais appears to be the perfect foil for Neves in midfield. Neves is always top draw, but seems to step up another gear when Sais is alongside. Hopefully this partnership will be kept intact
Mike, I asked the same question in responding to Whitley Wanderer’s post above, to which he replied that Bennett had run over Nuno’s cat – so that’s that cleared up then!
UTW!
So all the adolescent Villa fans, who had their organisms on this blog the other day, are now having their nappies changed, due to wearing different color shorts on returning home than those they left home wearing.
And deafening by their silence and absence.
Interesting, must be back at kindergarden.
Eat shit, mofo’s.
Normal service resumed, and that third goal was just Barcelonaesque in it’s passing purity.
Thought Costa back to his best, maybe a mental block cleared by Diogo not being on the pitch?
Whether or not Diogo is fit for Saturday, it might be a perfect opportunity to give him a couple of weeks rest to fully recover and get his mojo back for Boro.
And can any of you still think we should have not got rid of Edwards?
Was he actually on the pitch?
Reading are a very poor side, and second half was like our away trips to Leeds, Norwich and Reading, training sessions.
Burton should be a no brainer, and Brewsie will be getting muscle strain looking over his shoulder at them breathing down his neck.
Another three points, another clean sheet ( almost as many as Novotel ) and another one off the wall.
Bring on the dancing horses.
And Manure out without a whimper, such a shame!
FOwb
WE ARE GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE PROMISED LAND…
View from W2 Billy Quiet Upper………
I was fortunate enough to have a perfect view of THAT pass from Neves – the 60 yard belter to Costa that seemed to “spin back” and threw the Reading keeper into confusion. From there Costa did what Costa does best and Afobe netted the second…Cue celebration.
I really thought those type of defence wrecking slide rule passes had gone with the passing of Peter Broadbent and Johnny Haynes – and along comes this wonder kid from Portugal…
I never give 10/10 lightly but Neves earned that accolade last night. “Imperious” as Steve my neighbour from Oxford in W2 described Neves as the game entered the last few minutes. Quite right. He also looks more comfortable with Saiss alongside in midfield – make no mistake about it Neves is the real deal.
Aside from that it was a commanding performance all round against a Reading outfit whose goalkeeper resorted to time wasting after 15 minutes!
As the night wore on and it started to get chillier and chillier Ruddy must have felt like Oates. I cannot recall him actually touching the ball except from back passes.
Three fine goals put the smile back on the faces around Molineux made even wider with results elsewhere.
As Ben rightly points out in his match report it really was attack v defence and so we move onto Saturday and Burton at The Mol. With Cardiff visiting Derby on Sunday for the televised fixture a real opportunity to open up a 6 point cushion on and put the pressure on them to get a result which certainly won’t be easy with Derby looking to secure a top 6 finish. As importantly to maintain at least 10 points ahead of Villa who visit relegation threatened Bolton – and after the result from Villa Park last night that’s certainly no “gimmee” either.
I arrived home a shade after midnight and slept like the proverbial log without the recurring nightmares of Saturday night/Sunday morning.
Bliss Bloggers Bliss.
Enjoy the rest of the week fellow Bloggers and see you at The Mol on Saturday for the latest chapter in this quite remarkable season.
BOG
That’s the difference right there between the Billy Wright occupants and those like me who inhabit the Stan Cullis. Up there in the rarified atmosphere of the Billy Quiet Neves is decribed as ‘imperious’. Down near me he was described thus “F*** me, he’s f***ing great ain’t he!”.
OODCL
Not to fret – I had to consult the OED to find out how to spell it. That’s what comes of being born 750 yards from The Mol and being educated at a second rate Grammar in the middle of the Black Country and onto Wolverhampton Poly – no grounding or finery or class apart from the ability to play a mean game of bar billiards (Poly champ 1970-71) and table football and scrap with Baggie bastards….!
See you Saturday at 10.30 – on we go! Wrap up its gonna snow!

RIP
Stephen Hawking.
The World will keep discovering how much of a genius you were for years to come.
Not going to comment on the game itself, that’s being covered well enough by you guys.
Ryan Bennett……
We know we have the brilliance that is Neves, the wizardry that is Harry Potter Cavelerio, the tantalising skills of Jota and the returning form of Costa, but Bennett! He cost us the Princely sum of Feck all, a steal, daylight robbery and a fantastic piss take on all the Norwich fans that laughed at us for taking him.
Last night he was rock solid, sure-footed, inch perfect and more than that starting some great moves. He sprinted forwards twice into the heart of the Reading defence leaving them and the crowd aghast with his move, three outstanding passes from the back, up the wing to Doherty, one of which and Peyronies sufferer would be proud to claim as theirs.
It looked for all the World like it was destined for Twixfix’s seat in the Billy Quiet but no, it curved and arc’d along the line to Doherty.
Now I don’t know what the feck was wrong between him and Nuno, but that solitary performance last night should surely put their little lovers tiff to bed, (please)
Oh yes, did anyone happen to notice the Villa lost at home?…
Obviously we can post images again Stew, nice one.
Unfortunately been off-blog for a while due to work commitments and a family illness but been keeping up with results and feeling the pressure as our lead has been slowly whittled down.
This is the business end of the season and the nerves and pressure will be kicking in for every one now. It’s all about who has the bottle to see it through. Apart from slip ups at home against Notts Forest and Norwich we haven’t done that badly since the new year (21 points from 12 games) but Cardiff, Fulham and Villa have been on great runs and full credit to them for that.
6 wins from the remaining 9 games and Villa and Fulham can’t catch us even if they win all their fixtures (which I think Fulham are capable of doing but not Villa). Cardiff can overtake us and I actually think who wins that game between us will go on to win the league.
Agree with Ben’s comment on our lack of urgency sometimes. We know we are a good footballing side – along with Fulham the best in the league – but we need to be ruthless for the remaining games.
Roll on May – I’m running out of fingernails to chew….
Villa fans when they turn up for work today.

More rumours about Talisca on HITC. Purely speculative, of course, as there was nothing to the rumour in the first place 🙂
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/03/14/do-report-wolves-willing-to-break-transfer-record-to-finally-sig/
HITC is full of absolute rubbish. Stopped looking at it ages ago.
And more on the topic.
http://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-potential-double-deal-creating-big-waves-portugal-saturday/
I trust reports in Sport Witness more than hitc Tim. But it’s also reported that Talisca is being lined up by manure. Wait and see I would imagine to be the wisest course.
What a difference a few days make, especially when you pick the right team.
I cant help but agree with all that say Bennett has to be playing all the remaining games, fitness and suspensions aside. He simply did his job professionally simply and without fuss. He and Barry were two of our best signings last summer and have made a huge difference to our ability to defend properly.
Afobe for Bonatini was another positive change, and Benik should keep his place for Burton at the weekend. We should have had 3 or 4 more goals, and we need a clinical finisher next season, and I have to say Bonatini isn’t that, and I’m to be convinced Afobe will be good enough either. But without Jota the front 3 of Cav, Afobe and Costa did well and Costa really does look more like the player we saw at Anfield and Villa park last season when single handedly he was our shining light.
However man of the match and the beating heart of our team is Ruben, he is simply the best midfielder in the league. The ball to Costa leading to Afobe’s goal was sublime, the backspin placement and speed of the ball were perfect and a superb team goal was scored. Saiss is his perfect foil and their interplay and understanding is excellent.
For now last night’s team is the one to put out for the coming fixtures, and for once the international break hopefully will give us a weeks breather before things start to really get hectic, come the end of the Easter schedule we should be in touching distance of our goal if we can play like we have against Leeds and Reading.
I hope Jota recovers quickly, but we hopefully won’t miss him now as much as we might have done in November and the front 3 that finished the first half will still scare any opposition to death.
I’m looking forward to seeing Costa dancing round the man mountains Warnock prefers at Cardiff to stick a knife in the miserable moaning curmudgeon’s back that won’t be a fatal wound, but enough to destabilise him and his team for the miriad cuts the will follow.
Lets keep calm and carry on…….. Burton we’re waiting for you now.
A different topic, but until recently I was on a wolves fan group on Facebook – some of you might be on the same – but withdrew disillusioned with the ridiculous comments and lack of objectivity – slagging off opposition fans for the hell of it. Either we were world beaters or total wankers depending on the result.
Can I say hats off to all the bloggers on here (I usually read all the comments) for your common sense approach, the camaraderie and above all the touch of humour.
I’ve never met any of you, and may not always agree with you, but I almost feel I know the usual contributors and that we are all part of a great brotherhood of wolfies.
Many thanks to Thomas, Razmin, Ben and others for all the insights and the time taken to keep this blog working.
Paulus, if you are really bored and need to get out, organize yourself to Sunderland for the final game of the season.
There are a bunch of us bloggerists booked in at some hotel or other for the Sat. night, and I know a merry time will be had by all.
Failing that, a bunch are getting together, I believe, at either Novotel Wolvo, or A Park View Hotel, down by West Park, for the last home game of the season, the week before.
Luckily for everyone, I shall only be over for the Sunderland match, but that will be long enough, I hear y”all cry.
Be great to meet up with you.
(First time meeting an expat, you have to buy me a drink)
Much happier now with another 3 points in the bag. Would like to have said I slept well but woke up 4am panicking having had a dream that I was running round trying to find out how badly Jota was injured! Couldn’t get back to sleep after that! He is my favourite player mind you so that’s probably why.
I think Afobe has earned his place to start Saturday.
Onwards & Upwards!
Keep calm and have a cup of Cocoa Border. 🙂
Better still, a few Karbach Brewery Rodeo Clown double IPA’s.
Brewed in Houston, Texas, and after three, you will worry no more!
A nice idea both of you thanks. Suspect I’ll go with a large brandy this evening, see if that works.
As for keep calm, I support Wolves so is that actually possible???
Definitely not…
Just a line to say R.I.P Simon Hawkins and Jim Bowen two names you’d never put together. Use to love watching Bulls Eye on a Sunday afternoon with everyone round telle, it was ” smashing super great ” Jim..!
Simon Hawkins well what can you say such a fantastic human spirt..!
Thoughts on the last two games. We were outplayed in the second half by Villa, who, like Fulham, were up for it. I think a lot of sides have worked out how to stop Wolves from playing football, but only one or two sides possess the players of genuine class to create goalscoring opportunities, and Mitrovic for Fulham, and Villa overall did that.
The silver lining from Saturday’s loss at Villa Park is probably that it was responsible for the shock QPR win at Villa. I think Villa gave their all and more on Saturday, and left it all out on the pitch. Holloway’s street fighters are a bit more of a match than Reading, but they’re not that good. Villa were left out of fuel from their Saturday exertions. Conversely Nuno has a record of turning things round after a defeat, and last night’s performance showed them quite capable of taking apart the lower orders by playing good football, and recovering quickly.
Some on here are after Bonatini and decrying his football skills. They weren’t saying that when he was knocking in twelve goals. He’s lost his confidence and that’s clear for all to see. However, he is a class player and that confidence will return (doesn’t mean he should start every game). It’s also a delight to see some of Costa’s silvery skills returning. It’s interesting to reflect how Nuno has dealt with him. He missed pre-season and wasn’t available until well into the autumn. Most managers would have sent him out on loan to get some match fitness. But Nuno wanted to nurture him to play his way. This meant a 10 minute spell as substitute, then 20 minutes, then 30 minutes. Then as he got fitter he was 60 minutes from the start, eventually leading up to the full 90. However, his mercurial game relies on balance, speed off the mark, and some audacity. All this doesn’t happen if you’re only at 95% fitness. Last night showed he was almost back to his best (two assists plus one outrageous miss), and if Jota is out for a few weeks we can once more look forward to drooling over Costa’s skills.
The ability to put lesser teams to the sword will prove the difference in the last nine games, and I still fancy Fulham to be the side going up with us.
It’s a pity we didn’t play Reading before Villa, we may have done much better there.
Yes, Afobe scored this time, but it was a sitter wasn’t it ? I’m still not sure what he does in our style of play, and while goals come from all over, Doherty, Boly etc. we’re fine without a so called striker.
Reading were poor, and we should certainly beat Burton, but I want to see us beat a couple of teams higher up the table to prove we can really do it at a higher level. Especially Cardiff !
Listened to the match and watched the game this afternoon via Wolves TV.
A good result for us and a decent display. Neves is just amazing, he’s almost as good as I was at his age…
🙂
Reading were very poor and offered nothing at all. They are dangerously close to the relegation crowd and really need to get their act together. No fight in them at all.
I know Afobe has scored a couple of goals for us lately but I still think, when fit, Jota/Cav/Costa offer much more.
Jota looks like he may be back after the international break, so that’s good news indeed.
Now we need to do the same to Burton on Saturday.
Onwards and onwards
😉
A quote from the bbc sport app on the coverage last night when running the stats.
“Before tonight, only Birmingham City had less away points in the Championship this season than QPR.
Had an uncontrollable urge to post that on the first villa blog google found last night.
Of course i satisfied that urge after the game
Sorry dont mind good debate but they wound me up…
What is the difference between Steve Bruce and a six month old baby? The baby will stop whining after a while….
Same applies to Robert Snodgrass.
Just a footnote really.
Helder Costa
He tried some stuff that I had to think twice that he actually had the intelligence, confidence and swift of thought to try which, even though they didn’t work out, made me again realise that some of our players are on a different planet sometimes.
If he scores THAT goal then cake iced. Good job it wasn’t nil nil at that point….
Hey hey hey… Helder Costa.
The boy is brilliant. Some of the stuff he did last season, and is beginning to do again this, is just breathtaking.
The more that I see of this team the more I think the Vile’s Tony Oxo has a point about what we’ve paid for certain players.
Ruben Neves – £16m – true worth £100m
Cav – £7m – true worth £50m +
Jota – £12m – true worth £80m +
Baza D – £1m – true worth £25m +
Bennett – £0m – free – yes fekin free
Based on where these players are AFTER signing for Wolves & being coached by King Nuno Santo for a year.
On the face of it, it would appear we got a few bargains buys, great business me thinks & well done WWFC management.
Tony (just in case you’re reading this with your bell ended fans) well just to clarify – go FEK OFF & Suck another lemon.
As for last nights game I’ve got no additional comments to the eulogising above. Fekin Wolves Ay We
Fekin av it AV fans & Greaseless top chump player? 1 x decent 45 mins DOES NOT make you the best player in the league & still he isn’t fit to lace our teams boots.
What a season, what a coach, what a team & hats off to our wonderful 12th man.
FOwb av Colin
RickRack.
Youv’e just stolen the words from my mouth with your 12th man praise.
I was just coming on to point out another milestone for our 12th men and Ladies.
Last night we had 27,356 fans on a Tuesday night re-arranged game against a team struggling to get 6000 to 8000 for home games, they brought around 400 maximum last night, meaning we had 27,000 home fans.
On Saturday we play Burton, who last year brought about 200 fans situated in the lower Steve Bull and pretty bare it looked too. This time we put them in the upper Quadrant and opened the lower to Wolves fans. The ground for home fans is a total sell out, not a seat left for our guys. This is pretty incredible when you think we are playing Burton, with no disrespect intended to them, they are a team trying to become like the rest of the division with limited resources.
Well done Wolves fans, I note Villa were whinging (no, not Villa surely not) about the crowd plummeting well below 30,000 last night, one thing springs to mind.
Came to see the Wanderers.
They only, came to see the wanderers.
Perhaps we could fill a 50,000 stadium if we reached the PL and did well.
Only 249 Reading fans Stu! Brilliant support from the Wolves fans. 🙂
Great picture which if I am not mistaken was taken from the Charles Buchan (or was it the Topical Times?) football annual 1960 which is the very book that made me support Wolves as a young impressionable 4 year old.

Nawww Facebook this morning. 🙂
Just kiddin. I actually remember seeing this picture back in 19 Oatcake and got really excited, 50 years on the bathplugs are still dangling carrots in front of my nose. I never learn.
Bedders & Stu,
I gotta ask – how the fek do you manage to regale such facts?
I genuinely struggle to remember who we played or what the score was from games at the start of this season!
I remember Rotherham home win last year 1:0 that felt like a loss cus we were so shit & not that long ago.
I do remember Scouseland 1yr ago with 8,000 12th men/ladies (& Boddies £1.70 a pint in the Adelphi)…
I do remember certain games – doubles over the shite – the game when Crichton shit himself every time the ball came to him Super Bobby Taylor – he’s a fekin ranker & the like
Bully scoring in the 1:3 at Brammel Lane (took my now 32 yr old nephew to his 1st game)
Bolton & fekin McGinley bathtub
The proper old Cow Shed – my first games in 1972 – & the first time I saw a goal & that “excitement rush” that’s still there 46 yrs on.
But I’m fekt if I can remember details – it’s gotta be an age related thing – but thank fek I remember the way to The Stile, The Mol, The sarf-bank & my seat. Come on you Wolvesssssssssss
Talking about Burton, I was interested to hear a stat which proved the old ‘Lies, Damn lies and Statistics’ saying.
It seems that Burton take the highest number of fans to away games in the league. Amazing, you may think. Until you qualify that by adding ‘when expressed as a percentage of their home gate’.
Clever, these statisticians.
I see that the picture facility has been restored.
Not much gets past me!
I am a bit concerned that Mildenhall Wolf has put two up already.
Neither of them involve images of scantily clad ladies.
BUT !!!!
They both contain letters, four of which, if you extract and rearrange them, can make a rather rude word describing a part of the female anatomy.
I am, quite naturally, horribly offended by this.
Mary,
I hope I don’t offend you with my user name but if so please let me know and I will change it. You are all thinking “what is he going on about ?”.
WELL, has anyone ever noticed that NEWARK is an anagram of W****R ?
It has been noted.
I’ve also just realised that my name nearly spells that of an outside facility where you find human excreta.
The Hawthorns.
I’ll never call anyone a newark again!
Has anyone noticed that Pardew is an anagram for warped?
But, best of all, Neil Warnock is an anagram for:
COLIN WANKER
You couldn’t make it up. (I didn’t)
Dances,
If we,re talking anagrams about Parjew – don’t forget ALAN
How fitting (sorry pun intended) & apt.
Properly FekToff west brown
We’re leaving damp and miserable NZ in the next few days so I’m hoping to return to some warm and welcoming sunshine and alltough airborne and won’t have a clue as to the Burton result until Sunday.
Got to say …this Blog just gets better and better with some artful comments and cheeky wit … thanks Mrs Whitehouse.
Sorry but who are you?
This is a site for Wolves fans not a travel blog or a ‘who can post the best photograph taken on my new Box Brownie’ competition.
Are you new?
Do we know you?

Twix.
What an inappropriate and disgusting picture mate, if you zoom in there are a couple up to no good in that camper van, even I can see his smug self satisfying smile and I’m going blind.
Hurry home you two, I miss our long enlightening talks, over a sausage and egg banjo in the West Park cafe, (still open) put your Big coat on, snow expected again again Saturday and Sunday. Then back up to your kind of temperatures 8-9*C.
Safe flight, get yer arse back here for the big push.
🙂
It was similar to Wolfstroker’s motorhome …. rocking around the clock..! Have to say we’ve truly missed our favourite pastime of Wolves watching and you rightly say … looking forward to getting our arses back amongst you lot/friends.
Still just a few more wins and we’ll be over the line…
Then the FOSUN fireworks will start….
Stu,
Wot the feks a “banjo”
A huge Sandwich.

Just been reading the latest posts over a cuppa and trying to think why the date at the top of each rang a bell. It has just come to me, this day 38 years ago was one of the best days of my Wolves supporting life. 15th March 1980 at Wembley Stadium – Wolves v The S**t in The League Cup Final. I can remember it like it was yesterday and what a day it was. If I remember rightly we also finished 6th in the league. That was as good as it got though and the decline started not long after. I know we went back in 1988 but if someone had said then you won’t be back at Wembley for a major final for at least 40 years I would never have believed it. But the wait must surely be over soon. These are exciting times and if the stadium is full for the visit of Burton, what happens next year when Man City/Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal et al come to town ? (I didn’t mention Spurs Dave). Can’t wait for the next chapter in our history. Looking forward to being at The Molineux on Saturday but hoping the weather isn’t as bad as people are predicting as I have had my fair share of snow for this year. Onwards and upwards because this IS the year.
Hey Newark, my best day of following wolves ever too , got a train to wolves so I could travel on one of the ‘football special ‘ Wembley bound trains as I was traveling alone , which meant passing my house on the way back to wolves and getting home at late o feckin clock ? What a day though, well worth it and if any body had told me that the only other time I would go to Wembley in the next few decades would be for a sherper van trophy I wouldn’t have believed it , oh to be my sons age now and ready for a real roller coaster ride aboard the good ship Nuno
“Shilton comes for the ball , and oh , oh there’s been a mix up grey is in on goal and he can’t miss , wolves have taken the lead
It’s wolves 1 cup holders Forrest 0
New News on Nuno’s Nando!
After accidentally running over Nuno Espiritu Santo’s cat, Ryan Bennet has managed to grovel his way back into the managers good books by agreeing to supply sachets of Whiskers Super Meat (none of the cheap stuff) to the unfortunate Nando, who was hurt whilst having a kip under the dozy defender’s hot hatch. See last Wednesday’s headline…”Nando’s Siesta Wrecked by Fiesta.”
The half-soaked defender was immediately dropped for both the Leeds game and Villa but after Vets worked through their lunch break to straighten Nando’s tail, Nuno reluctantly returned Bennett to the ranks so long as he agreed not to allow any more goals in and watches where he parks in the future.
Tim Spiers is away.
Yer not Cheeseburger in disguise are you Larry.
To back LT’s story, photographic evidence of said cat.
That’s really awful Stu. I mean, that’s REALLY awful. lol
As alluded to elsewhere on here Saturday 28 April v Sheffield Wednesday – myself and Mrs BW (I have to get her a match ticket!) are staying over at The Novotel along with Newark Wolves Ian & Sue. If any other Bloggers are thinking of staying over then you are very welcome and we can all go out for a meal and the occasional half a shandy to celebrate us getting presented with the Championship trophy.
Come on boys and girls it will be party time! Twixfix? DOOGooder? London Wolves Loyal? Wolfstroker? Witley? Brompton? StuWolf? Exiled? Anyone else I may have inadvertently forgotten?

Hi Bedford Wolf,
We will be staying at the Park View for the last game love to get together, sounds like a good plan.
Wolves Aye We.
Bedford.
We’re up for it, already told Newark, so count me and Jen de Wolf in.
Anyone free on Saturday?
Paddy is in a bit of a fix. He’s got the best hospitality ticket, with all the trimmings, for England v Ireland at rugby. Twickenham, St Patrick’s Day on Saturday. He’s so excited, he’s been looking forward to it for ages, simply ages.
Only trouble is, he’s just remembered he’s supposed to be getting married on Saturday. Clean forgot all about it in the excitement.
If you’re free, can you make it? Good. Here’s the details.
The wedding starts at 3pm and the bride’s a cracker apparently. Don’t be late.
High 5 to Paddy
A proper 12th man.
Picture biting into an egg sandwich and the yolk drops out onto your shirt. You will see people holding the sandwich in their hand while rubbing the yolk off their shirt. It looks like someone playing a banjo.
