Slugging it out for survival in a league of fine margins, individuals so often make the difference.

And today those difference makers sported gold Burrda.
Stephen Hunt headlined again with trademark effervescence; chasing down, winding up and generally having his say-so.
Any concerns about the loss of a certain French winger were soon erased as he jinked his way to the byline to see a teasing cross deflected home.
Indeed, for all the Sako Va Va Voom, Hunt has twice energised Molineux in a way we haven’t experienced all season. It was palpable.
Bjorn Sigurdarson caught the bug, flipping on the burners and moseying in to finish with nonchalant swagger.
Will he become the most valuable remnant of the Solbakken era? I wouldn’t be surprised.
Kevin Doyle’s performing a neat trick of late. So often the goalless workhorse, he’s now perfected the art of complete anonymity, only pouncing from the shadows to nod home late winning goals. Lovely jubbly.
That these encouraging moments were spaced out by goals and opportunity for Boro says much about our predicament. Whatever the lineup, whatever the formation, whatever the positives, Wolves simply can’t defend.
They may have been victims of a questionable goalline decision and 25-yard piledriver today, but both events were preventable. Whether it was Johnson’s needless lunge in the build up to their first or a chronic lack of closing down for the second, we again turned the gun on ourselves.
Perhaps it was no surprise then that with time ticking down, Dean Saunders opted to baton down the hatches and hammer up the barricades?
In what must have been the most defensive run of substitutions in history, we finished the game with a team of blockers.
Fair enough I say.
In such situations, managers must stick or twist and live or die by that decision.
Deano prefers to stick and given that the team saw out the game with a degree of comfort, you can’t question his judgment.
It really doesn’t matter how you get across the line, just as long as you do.
Remembering that could make all the difference.

Well it seems the tactic board as not been fixed because i have on idea what went on today. I just know it was fun and for once ended well . What was it Saunders said we need a team of Stephen hunts . Madness but at least he’s given us a chance
Winner came from training ground ,long throw to Johnson ,Doyle put away the flick on.In the second half good movement and interchange from Doyle,Siggy and Hunt with Ebanks holding the ball up in the middle, with a nice touch for the second goal. Sound tactical substitutions after the third goal.Henry tightened up midfield and Baath did his job at the back,to make sure we kept the lead the third time of asking.Players clearly demonstrated good team spirit and are playing for the manager. Lots of postives from Deano and the team.
Possibly the most exciting/tense game so far this season depending on how you want to look at it – end to end stuff with out 15(!) shots on target to their 9 according to the BBC including some fantastic work from Steele…though I think De Vries should get a shout-out as well especially for his saves before the og opener!
Thrilled with the result of course and though we’re still in the bottom 3 it’s looking like we can fight our way out of this!
with Posh and Owls winning we’re still in the merde but great, just keep on keeping on
Still in the merde with Posh n Owls winning, but hey, let’s keep on keeping on
oops just back from the pub innit
stop press Martin O’Neill sacked , bysie bye Deano.
it’s been emotional.
O’Niel should have got the job after McCarthy if he had we would still be in Premier, and yes I know he’s had a bad run with Sunderland but he saved them last season he took over when they were in the mire and kept them up, and I’m sure he would have kept them up this season, he knows a good striker when he see’s one ie Fletcher but I carnt see Morgan having the balls or ambition to go for him he’s not a yes man for a start. Great result yesterday the fact we came from behind as well you wouldn’t have bet on that. Team spirt seems to have picked up and Hunts drive and tenacity fair play to him he answering his critics in the best way by performing he’s not the prettiest to watch and he’s no Ryan Giggs but he’s giving his best and putting the effort in and that’s all I’ve ever asked of any of them and it appears it’s infectious long may it continue.
Good win but i’d say we need a new manager. Give o’neill a bell. He’ll be upset by getting the sack for
The first time? But he is a fighter.
Brian McDermott has more recent pedigree but we need someone in place
as the seasons over. Is Saunders the answer?
Personally I don’t think he is. Would love to see MO’N or MH but it won’t happen with the way our club is run. Dean is the cheap option.
Another vital 3 points today but without wanting to piss on anyone’s fireworks we’ve beaten the worst side in the league and another two in freefall. There’s still a long way to go, we are still in the bottom 3 and we are awful at the back.
3 ounces of old gold dust yesterday though – could be vital at the end.
Choose life. Choose Manchester United. Choose a trophy winning big player signing, passing and moving team. Choose to watch football on Sky TV. Choose to spend Saturday afternoon gardening or shopping. Choose home improvements. Choose to put £430 into an ISA. Choose a future. Choose a life. But why would I want to do a thing like that? : I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got Wolverhampton Wanderers.
here here old man!! its a small step forward but more importantly it puts some pride back into wolverhampton. WE ARE WOLVES!!!!!!
Well said Danny.
And to take another quote from the same source which sums up what life is like being hooked on the drug that is ‘supporting Wolves’…
“People think it’s all about misery and desperation and death and all that shite, which is not to be ignored, but what they forget is the pleasure of it. Otherwise we wouldn’t do it. After all, we’re not f***ing stupid. At least, we’re not that f***ing stupid.”
Have you seen Pattaya’s picture what a babe, take note DOOGooder
More of the same, never going to be easy, So happy for all you fans that get to go to the game;been long time coming, fans react to passion, fight and goals. I think we will need 3 more wins, we have had the pressure for months now, hopefully some of the other teams will get sucked in. Looks likely will need 50 points minimum.
Love your picture raaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr
Calm down man!
Remember you’re a Wolves supporter…….
…..Not bad though Eh!?
Finally a football match! The dross served up under TC and SS never came close to that. The 3 points were vital but it was entertaining for the first time in a long while. No more tinkering please Deano. That’s your first 11. UTW.
At last Lady Luck put in an appearance at the Molinuex, the Easter bunny was seen sitting in the directors box and Midas laced up huntys boots, how could we not win with all this help. Well done lads, you have had to endure a lot of stick over the season (rightly so) but you can play football, you can pass the ball, you can be creative, you can get the fans excited, you can win at home, you can STAY UP. Keep the faith . UTW.
Siggy was exceptional and Davis was very good.
I thought earlier this season Siggy looked a mediocre player and Davis looked garbage.
Happy to be proven wrong!
I can’t agree with your assessment of Davis’s performance. I thought that we again lacked possession as a result of a poor central midfield. Davis’s touch continues to let him (and the team) down – there was at least three occasions where he had the ball in space and his touch was too heavy resulting in Wolves losing possession – I reached the point where I felt Henry would be the better option against Blues. We also need more from O’Hara.
Hunt and Siggy were superb and I felt Doyle and Blake did well – I was impressed when he tracked back the length of the pitch to break up a ‘Boro attack down the left wing.
Overall a good performance that gives us real momentum and hope of survival.
I thought O’Hara was dreadful.
Think you must be getting them mixed up.
For the first time for a long time we were entertained for a full 90 minutes at Molineux this weekend, even a neutral supporter couldn’t fall to enjoy the end to end football. There were less unforced errors and just occasionally there was evidence of the old gold playing with confidence. Just a matter of weeks ago we were cheering at the first shot on goal midway through the second half, certainly no one was afraid to have a go yesterday. Can we do a ‘Wigan’ and survive? I’m still not sure as there were still many frailties that continually let us down; passes to nowhere, defensive howlers, putting unnecessary pressure on our goalkeeper and seemingly struggling with the simple things like throw ins.
Things are certainly far from right but things are better so let’s enjoy being able to use that ‘back to back wins’ phrase for a change. For those who are wondering Boro’s first goal didn’t cross the line, not from my view point in the Stan Cullis and not on the TV either. This result will surely have helped shift some last minute early birds, I hope so as just 8000 of us will never make enough noise!
I’ve watched Boro’s first ‘goal’ 10 times and there is no way it crossed the line. What was worse was that the linesman was nowhere near the goal-line and with the speed that the ball traveled he was just guessing – this is completely unacceptable and action needs to be taken to stop this poor quality of officiating.
Respect to Deano for calling this out in his interview.
Add to this the two clear hand ball shouts, the second of which was clear as day and it was a poor day for the officials. Thank goodness that Doyle put that third goal in.
UTW.
Now THAT is what I call a football match! The dross served up under TC and SS never came close to that. The 3 points were vital but what felt particularly good was to finally get some proper entertainment from the men in old gold. It’s not as if our luck has changed: The own goal against Bristol City, the ‘goal’ awarded to Boro that didn’t cross the line, the fact all the other results continue to go against us. What’s different is Wolves are suddenly rejuvenated. You have to give Deano some credit for replacing a tired old guard. Ward, Henry, Berra, Foley, playing by numbers, going through the motions. The strangest thing of all though is Sako. It feels like he’s scored half of our goals this season and set the rest of them up. How can it be that losing a ‘star player’ would make the side better? Is it that Sako is greedy/lazy/a defensive liability? Perhaps it’s because football is a team game. Sako is a fine player but having him on the pitch means the rest of the players just stand back and hope he’ll work his magic. Now he’s missing, everyone has to stand up and be counted. We look a more threatening and more balanced side with Hunt and Siggy. Doyle actually looks like a striker. We genuinely appear to have turned a corner. Of course, it could all change on Monday when Ward replaces Hunt on the left wing and Henry comes in for Davis ‘to give us some fresh legs’ but for now let’s savour a sweet victory. UTW.
I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing about sako. Funny old game etc…
If this is how we are to survive so be it but developing one ability to defend might stop a heart attack or two…but today is for celebrating ..Birmingham are not so brital defensively so let’s hope our Luck holds out,,,
Sack the fat man for a brighter future.,
Nice one Thomas.
The win yesterday proved what a lot of us have said in the past months.
We won’t get anywhere by playing defensively because we can’t defend.
All we have to do is make sure that we score one more than the opposition.
It’s quite simple really – attack and we’ve got a chance.
If we score first, keep going for it. Sitting back is suicide.
The players have proved that when they give it a go we CAN score goals – even Doyler!
I really don’t know why Deån brought on all those defenders at the end, it just gave the initiative back to Boro’, but we just about got away with it.
In future I think we should have the courage of our convictions.
When we were going forward we are starting to look the business and the opposition can’t score when they are in their own half. (Although Leadbitter nearly did).
Hope springs once more.
UTW!!
Listened to the game on the radio.
Finally a game where we played as a team.
Not sure about the panic stations re defenders at the end.
Still we won and so no argument.
Well played the whole team.
Let’s see if we can take the winning way to St Andrews.
If we can just stay up and if we do, then some credibility should go to Saunders.
Very much improved look of the site. For some reason my eyes just do not like white on black. So a good result but other results did not help. OK M o’N I rate this bloke very highly but our clowns won’t pay his wages. Just think back 1 season almost to the day, as we all know only too well it’s the wrong time to sack a manager. The Sunderland must really be a load of clowns, Loose 1 Nil to M U and he gets sacked, all the usual names are being bandied about but who will get the job? And will he keep them up?
This white on black format is not good for the eyes. All I can see when I look away from the PC is black and white lines. No fun.
Scratch that first comment above, I typed it all as black on white and when I posted it came back to the white on black. Never mind hey. All other points are valid.
Best game of the season by a country mile, thourghly enjoyed it and lost me voice in the process. I thought Hunt was truly inspirational and what a player Siggy is becoming, I only hope we can hold on to him next season I believe he will be aswsome as was his play and his goal yesterday.
Cannot say the same for OHara, passing was awfull as was his overall play, not sure if he is fully fit or just forgot what he is supposed to be doing. The so called playmaker does not even run to support the attack, he is just happy to pick the ball up deep and do very little with it.
Ebanks was tireless up front, I hope the rumours that he is walking on a free at the end of the season are not true.
Come on me babies we might just do this.
+1 on Blake’s performance and your assessment of O’Hara’s overall game. Siggy is a fantastic player – he wins so many headers and has two good feet.
Good win, aren’t they all, but if all around us keep winning, we will still be in the bottom 3 come crunch time.
I said much earlier in the season when we beat Ipswich and Posh away that those six points could be absolutely vital at the end of this year. How true was my words.
Still think we are a Dead Team Walking, but maybe, just maybe they are only using one crutch now.
A good result from The Mol, and nice to see the shit sliding into the mediocrity they so richly deserve.
FO..
I for one have had to eat some Humble pie of late.
Saunders really does seem to be getting some passion back into these players.
Yesterday for the first time this season it looked like they were actually playing with some pride for themselves and the club. Hunt was moronic the day he came back and I for one didn’t want him in the team again. But he has proven the doubters wrong with a great performance..
Lets hope this is a turning point, 3 wins in 4 is not luck..
Well done for yesterday lads finally a great game that everyone enjoyed, exactly what we pay our money for..
Now lets push on and stay up !!
Best game of football I’ve seen Wolves involved in for about 2 years.
Hunt was great. As were 8 of the other starting 11. I can’t fault the midfield, forwards, full backs or keeper.
However, the central defence is still absolutely chronic. Gorkss is no improvement and Johnson is a joke. Batth is our best defender and he’s warming the bench.
I didn’t really like the tactic of bringing all those defensive-minded players on either. I thought it invited Middlesborough on to us and they could have equalised then.
But, let’s not concentrate on that. Great win. 3 out of the last 4. Let’s hope we catch a break some time soon and some of the teams around us lose!!
Don’t feel that confident for Blues, unfortunately, because they’re in a great vein of form. However, maybe we are too!! Let’s hope I’m wrong and we stuff the Brummies!!
Gorkss is a good defender and has made a difference – the mistakes yesterday came from Johnson, David and O’Hara predominantly.
I think we will see Henry start tomorrow alongside either Doumbia or O’Hara.
Gorkss may eventually do ok but at 32 this year hardly one for the future. Good result and an entertaining game for the long suffering fans.

Oh Siggy you icelandic fiend. Keep scoring goals like that beauty please!
Anyone see Nathan Redmonds goal for Blues though? Really going to need to keep tabs on him. Hopefully Robinson’s up for the job.
