From ‘The Wonder of You’ as we arrived to Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ as we left…

…Feel-good anthems are in plentiful supply at Molineux right now and after another hugely encouraging Championship performance, they’d rarely sounded so good.
Those miserable days, when we’d shuffle off home to that morbid Groundhog instrumental are but a distant memory, with every passing performance like this doing so much to change the record.
Progressive, passing football for those stymied stodge-fests of yesteryear and if music be the food of love, then let us jolly well eat.
A 3-1 triumph over a hugely impressive Blackburn Rovers possibly represents our best win of the season, as the men from Ewood Park looked easily the best team to play at Molineux this season.
Without testing Ikeme in the first half too often, there only looked to be one winner at 2-1 in the second, at the time Jordan Rhodes reduced arrears from a dubious looking penalty.
With the impressive Ben Marshall and the imperious Craig Conway weaving patterns around our penalty area, we were chasing shadows right up until the moment Bakary Sako converted Dicko’s cross to restore our two goal advantage.
From then on in, the Wolves side we’ve all taken to our hearts – that wonderful Wolves side – began to keep the ball in the same virtuous way we’ve been seeing since a January 3 away trip to Gillingham.
Batth and Stearman were typically assured against Blackburn’s blatant goal threat Rhodes and with Doherty and Golbourne alongside, we surely boast two of the most mobile full-backs in the division.
Behind Dave Edward’s lungbusting display of distinction, Lee Evans was only a tad less impressive than his Cardiff masterclass, with McDonald finishing the game like the Rolls Royce we’ve somehow purchased for the price of a Ford Focus.
Bakary Sako was undoubtedly man-of-the-match for his sumptuous first half free-kick, assist for Dicko’s opener and all-important killer goal in the second half.
Nouha Dicko meanwhile gave Grant Hanley and Jason Lowe more work than they probably thought possible from a lone man.
Finally, James Henry eased into his right midfield berth when replacing the booked van La Parra at half time, reminding us all what a safe pair of feet he represents.
And two new faces in Saville and Rowe suggests that this squad isn’t as light as we sometimes think.
With Blackburn nominally 14th in this embryonic league, it’s easy to see why it’s so bloody tough.
So with that in mind, we really shouldn’t expect Elvis on the tannoy every single week, however joyously indefinite it currently sounds.
But because I can’t help falling in love with what Kenny Jackett has created, expect me to sing along regardless.

Great report mate.
And to quote a former Molineux Tannoy favourite, ‘WOOOOOOWWW, I feel good.’
Another performance packed with guile, craft and invention. Sako the difference maker. I was sat right behind that thumping free-kick and the above video doesn’t do justice to how flat he struck the ball. Talk about dropping the hammer.
Had to ride the rollercoaster a bit in the second half as you say because Blackburn really took hold of the game, but we saw it out and picked them off on the break.
Would be nice to go to Blackpool and really make a statement next weekend. They haven’t got a single point yet and that would normally fill me with dread, but I just can’t see this team giving them anything. Don’t make me look a fool lads.
After such a great result and three goals do we still all nominate KJ for the ‘sign a frickin striker’ challenge?!?!
Here we go again ..the feel good factor give or take a bit of early trepidation..with Blackpool coming up
as an expected win with the others having more difficult fixtures we are knocking on the door ..where..? at the top of the league, and we all know where that leads..
I keep saying early days but history seems to place early front runners at the top of the league at the end of the season..
I’m traditionally nervous with Wolves and this season is no exception..I felt that Blackburn would gives us more of a problem.
Rhodes would be good along side Dicko incidentally ..but who is this other French guy we are chasing.?.he looks good too..
Any way we have to keep this up of course..KJ is his usual monotone Mr confidant to the press and soon at this rate we will have 7 seniors on the bench..
If we go up this season and keep half way in the premier then there should be a KJ statue made..
It’s all very good at the moment to say the least…
COYW
Andy Delort looks awesome, but I think hes gone to Wigan – mind you its French second division , but worth a gamble
I love everyone’s optimism but today is 1st September FFS.
Let’s be focused solely on our next game and leave the bullshit to the journalists trying to sell papers.
Good report Ben, good performances all round , Sako man of the match also thought Henry gave us more on the wing with his trickery when he came on.
Agree Blackburn are the best team we have seen so far, but what a bunch of divers, I could not believe some of the decisions and not sure if the penalty was justified.
The ref started well by booking their no 10 for diving, then for what ever reason did not carry on in the same vein for the remainder of the game.
Another thoroughly enjoyable game , long may they continue.
UTW
Spot on report, and the euphoria is catching, good to see Bakary being interviewed less nervy than Lee Evans last week, but you can tell he’s not used to the TV limelight.
I think our full backs are top class. What a signing Goldbourne is, & Doherty looks absolutely brilliant both forwards & in defence. He is really coming of age, he looked bright in his first games for us, but now he’s got the shirt & free of injury he looks a class act.
Ikeme is at his most assured, what a keeper, can there be any better on the planet I ask in all seriousness?
I was concerned more in this home game than in the Norwich & Cardiff games because I thought that for significant periods Blackburn bossed us. The 1st half when they had that series of free kicks we could just not get it out of our half. Then the Sako wonder free kick, a sigh of relief.
2nd half as well they were allowed to come onto us too easily, but our counter attacking was more incisive & deservedly we got the 2 goal breather back.
All told though what a start. Kenny Jackett goes from strength to strength, he gives me a lot of confidence as a fan, everything he does seems so right & so measured and well thought through.
We even made 5 live’s 606 after the game. A Wolves fan praising M & M for choosing, then backing their Manager. Yes the euphoria is high, and rightly so. Lets hope the good days far outweigh the bad & a great season awaits us.
Jacket frustrates me its almost as if he has no regard for my prediction league prediction. Well done boys I cant see any thing less than the play offs. Keep those results coming in.
Look, we’re going up. No question.
Great report Ben & a fantastic win plus 3 more points.
After an extremely frustrating weekend trying to fit the rear screen back in our old Cooper S at least I’ve had this result go my way & put a smile on my face!!
Ben, your prose is as purple as my loon pants were the first time I watched the Wolves.
And the team are in a golden vein of form that even outshines their shirts.
Kenny Jackett is a diamond geezer and even the two Ms are starting to look like semi precious stones compared with the fool’s gold of the last couple of years.
I am starting to dream of some silver ware come the end of the season.
Confidence is key and feck me we have a bunch of keys bigger than, than, errr … a bloke with a big bunch of keys!
With regards to Andy Delort, it’s quite comical that he has been paraded at Wigan, yet no fee has been agreed yet by his own club! I can see this falling flat for Wigan as according to Wikipedia… Andy scored 5 goals on sand but never played a game (not sure how that works?). So when he realises that Wigan Pier is nowhere near any sand I’m sure he’ll be having a rethink!… Blackpool next stop!
Another fantastic display of great football with some equally great finishing at last, and some great defending again.but for the dubious shit refereeing decision to award a peno it would have been a flawless game.
Still think we need another striker just in case we have a injury to Dicko other than that I think
we’re there.
KJ as put the pride back into wolves and the supporters with the brand of football we havn’t seen for a long long time.UTW
Another great result, and I predicted a draw, shows what I know. I think I should have more confidence in Kenny and the boys from now on.
Let’s hope we can just sign another striker, and I think that would put us in good stead for the rest of the season, as long as we can keep our best players from being poached in this window and January I think we will be in the play off’s at least.
Once again a stupid international break comes just at the wrong time.
Roll on the Blackpool game. .. Up the Wolves. …
Agree With Everything that’s been said, The boys have continued exactly where they left off last season.. and what a season..
My moans and groans now turn onto the Fans…
Where Are They All…??
The Team and Kenny have more than kept their part of the deal.
Playing great football and getting the results…
3rd in the Championship table… Unbeaten at Molineux in 2014 !
21000 against Blackburn is a shameful response from the fans….
We are supposed to be a big club we keep telling ourselves.. where are the crowds to support that view. Its galling to see so many empty seats when the team is playing this well..
Come on Wolves Fans we need to keep our part of the deal now, get down there and pack the place out make it a fortress for this great team Kenny has assembled.
Rant Over…
agree with everything said we now have a team to be proud of .in KJ we trust .a young vibrant skilfull team .to any wolves fans not going to the golden palace yet ,get off your arses and get down to support the lads ,loud and proud .20,000 loyal at the moment to the rest you dont know what your missing WOLVES AY WE
My better half wants a stern chat with KJ, apparently I have stopped being grumpy on sundays.
Great report Ben.
Long may this confidence last.
We are all, like Sako, ‘happy.’
White Rabbits to you all.
Let’s be enthusiastic after this!
We’ve made a great start, and although there will be losses at some point, I don’t see why we shouldn’t be in at least the play-off mix by the end of the season, barring terrible injuries, or some kind of England cricket team batting collapse.
I think that is the first time I ever cursed at the Wolves scoring a goal. At 2-1 I was heading for three points for once, but who cares we still won.
As I have previously said I think KJ is the best manager since Cullis, and he keeps on proving it. Like many supporters I live in dread of a reversion to our old ways regarding the Blackpoll game but maybe, just maybe things are begining to change and we will bury them in the next game.
Great report Ben thanks.
Onwards & upwards.
The only regret I have is forgetting to vote on this game (would have gone for a 2-0 win but oh well!) but still – we seem unbeatable right now! That is dangerous thinking I suppose and we will have a bad patch but…is it too early to say we are gonna be promotion contenders?
Probably but I shall say it anyway!
Are we going to have a bad patch?
Strength in depth that I can honestly say I cannot envisage any other club in this division having with regards to similar skilled players (and better) to slot into the same role. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we’re invincible… however the for once I’m not concerned with suspension etc as we are one of the cleanest teams to play against… We’ll undoubtedly get the odd suspension but not anywhere near most if our competitors.
So that just leaves injuries… The science that has been implemented resulted in our best ever season of being injury free last season, the daft injuries have all but gone, so it will be the odd longer term injury that will be the test.
With all of the above in mind, I see us playing the same and better in the majority of our games as the team grows, to become a tidal wave of skill and teamwork that most of the clubs we play will find us hard to beat.
I predict the odd draw and rarer loss, but overall the “team” will succeed with the most settled side in this division.
C’mon Ben. Top report, but you missed all the Saville / Rowe puns.
“The game was sown up by the time Saville and Rowe were introduced”.
“The situation was tailor-made for Saville and Rowe to come off the bench …”
“Saville and Rowe added to the fabric of the team, weaving intricate patterns in the middle of the park …”
“With Saville and Rowe at his disposal, KJ need no new material.”
“When Saville and Rowe came on, they looked a cut above the rest …” etc.
I’ll get me coat.
Made to measure, obviously.
Some of the comments are a bit threadbare but I like the cut of your overall comments.
Stop it, Bard, you’ll have me in stitches!
Had the misfortune to go to Trent Bridge on Saturday, rather than enjoying what sounded like a very good match at Molineux, and a very welcome 3 points.
Watching the England ODI team reminded me of Wolves under mad Mick, despite getting thrashed in a previous game, we employed in the main the same flawed tactics with the same failing players. Apart from the first 15 overs when England batted and did ok in overcast conditions, India were far too good all round, so I suffered from around 11.15am to the inevitable result around 5pm. Had no idea of the score at the golden palace until I rang my good lady to pick me up, and she only had the half time score.
Wouldn`t surprise me if the England selectors come calling for KJ to sort out the one day side. I mean he`s got our lot sorted and must have a bit of spare time now we are on a roll. Happily there will be no more cricket diversions for me this season, now where`s my Blackpool ticket gone?
Brilliant result. I was gutted not because I was not at the game, (was in Scotland visiting my daughter), but because I could not find the match on WIZIWIG. I used to use MYP2P.EU, but that also would not allow a stream. Had to wait for the Football League Show!!! I was also gutted at the attendance again. A shame that our current financial climate does not enable more support. I was gutted for a third time too, when I could not get a ticket for Blackpool. All sold out – so, whilst I am chuffed that our away support is awesome, I am gutted that I wont be part of it.
Hopefully I wont be gutted when I go online to book a ticket for the Bolton game.
Come on you Wolves.
Brompton Wolf… Re: your first point…. Were you then really annoyed to be relegated to watching any coverage of the game on the (usually decent) football league show to find that the wolves game got barely 45 seconds of attention when it had more goals and excitement than the focus matches. Just Plain Annoying.
If Brompton Wolf wasn’t, I certainly was!
I don’t know what the Wolves have to do to get decent TV coverage.
Maybe next year when we’re challenging for a top four spot in the Premiership.
Gotta love your optimism DOOG.
Also, I’d love to get more online highlights that the 60 seconders that we’re now regularly seeing. One minute of our talented WOLVES when they are playing such elegant football REALLY isn’t cutting the mustard.
Aside, Saturday afternoon this week – what the hell am I gonna do??!?!?
You need to plan ahead.
Me and the PMDG’er will be flying the big Wolves flag at Festival No6 and indulging in all the things that I should have packed in years ago.
I’ll leave it to your imagination as to what they are.
Any suggestions from Clive will be treated with the contempt they deserve!
At your advanced years, anything you want to inhale, imbibe or ingest is not going to affect you……………….any more!!
The damage has obviously been done a long, long time ago and with all the mind bending substances available eons ago, you must have got something right, coz you am a Wolves fan, like wot we are.
Wherever and whatever Festival # 6 is, have a blast, and remember the adage you can use after the age of 60ish, from the movie Grudge Match:
“I am 800 years old, I can say what the fuck I like!!”
FOwb
Thanks for the advice.
If you Google Festival No6, you’ll see exactly what and where it is.
A really beautiful location.
You’re old enough to remember ‘The Prisoner’ on TV.
And you’ll almost certainly identify with the statement on the side of ‘Monty’, my trusty (I hope) campervan.
Yeah, I was gutted!!!
that said, there’s now a whole 1m 26s courtesy of GOAL CAM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbeggpPF7ck
At least it’s a different perspective!
My spy at the game tells me Blackburn posed the biggest threat yet to our Wanderful Wolves
( all spelling mistakes are intentional!) and were in our face from the get go.
This result proves that we are one of the “teams to beat” in this division, and once again, all upcoming opponents are going to raise their game against us, as per last season.
Are we scared?
Not on yer Nellie!!
Bring ’em on, sez I , coz nothing helps our lads improve and raise their games than others trying to get one over us.
Once again, El Maestro Jackett was masterstrokefull, subbing our targeted winger, and bringing on Our ‘Enry to counter the idiocies of the referee’s brain.
Personally, I don’t mind the lack of tv coverage, as it is hopefully keeping us under the radar, keeping prying, spying eyes off our superstars, and not giving our forthcoming opponents any more insights than necessary, so they don’t know what’s gonna hit ’em!!
All the above analogies, suitable as they are, seamlessly sewn into the fabric of the blog, remind me of the old joke:
Bloke goes to doctor.
“Doc, I keep dreaming of lapels.”
” Don’t worry, you’ve got cholera”
Some fabbo results from the Prem this weekend.
Tim Howard, who 2 months ago was busy saving the world, lets in 6.
All new Manure, still winless.
Spurs stuffed at home, again, by Liverpool.
And the best result of all comes from South Wales.
Swansea lots, shit zippo!!
Boing fucking boing!!!
FOwb
I see you even managed to chuck in a Saville Rowe joke without even mentioning them. Class!
And just think, someone came back on this site to see if you were still on here and then naffed off. He must not have any sense of humour at all.
As I dipped out of getting a ticket for Blackpool, I’m going to free up my diary for the 20th to watch our beloved Wolves kick ass against Bolton. I will have to go via our beer garden though – anyone coming for a drink?
Come on me babbies!!
I am basking in this old gold aura whilst it lasts. Too long have I been plodding through the mire of dismal displays from overpaid so called Premier league footballers. Give me the hunger of youth with a will and desire to constantly do their very best.
How refreshing
How wonderful
Very slow (as expected) on the final day of transfers… Still hoping for a certain defender to go to Genk and with respect to the wage bill, for Doyle to go to Palace.
With regard to Palace, just checking up on the current state of play when I spotted this little gem… It appears Warnock is very “excited” about his new signing.
MYP2P.EU requires a plugin that tries to install a virus.
Norton picked it up and removed it.
Yeah BARD. I no longer use that because of that too. It was good whilst it lasted though, brilliant streaming I found.
Hum, so Doyle gone on loan but we still have Roger…. Answers on a postcard to what looks like an increasingly insoluble problem at WWFC.
A POSTCARD TO ICENI WOLF
Dear Iceni Wolf,
The solution is quite simple.
I suggested it during the mini bloggers meet, the day of the Cardiff game, regarding Jamie O’Hara.
Pay up his contract and get him out of the club.
They must have doneit with O’Hara. Come to some compromise over the amount of money (Jez will screw him down, he’s quite good at that so I hear) and then get the bad apple out of the barrel.
In a couple of months, Roger Johnson will be nothing but a dim (!) and distant memory.
Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here.
Love from theDOOGooders.
If only… I’m thinking a long loan move to somewhere ambitious (Woking? Hereford?)
… and here’s a pic of the front of the postcard The Doogooder has kindly sent, being modelled by our glorious host!
That looks like Thomas!!!!
Where is the postcard now and when are we going to get a new update?
Looking forward to receiving it myself in time – and I promise to turn it round real quick.
UTW/FO11NPWB – I’ll let Clive decipher that one (Simples!)
I have been watching the goalcam footage of the Blackburn game and remembered one of the first lessons that I learned during my illustrious career as a guardian of the onion bag.
Paul Robinson used it to perfection on Saturday.
A simple rule, but well worth knowing if you are a budding goalkeeper.
Whenever a goal is conceded – it’s not your fault.
Someone else is always to blame.
Wave your arms disparagingly in the general direction of the defence and you immediately pass on the responsibility for your net bulging.
It worked well for me for over twenty years as the ‘pillock between the posts’.
Robinson’s got it down to a fine art.
I seem to remember that Schmeichel was pretty good at it as well.
So at what level did you play mate? For 20 years, wow, most impressive.
You don’t remember him?
Played in the seventies for us.
Always took his kit home to wash himself.
Its…………………….Alan Boswell!!
I wasn’t around in the seventies!!
Nothing special I’m afraid.
Bristol Downs League.
Played for a team called Clifton Rockets.
When we were first formed we were in Division IV and used to smoke spliffs before the game.
When I left we were in the Premier division and the spliff smoking was strictly prohibited until after the final whistle.
It’s called ‘professionalism’…… I think.
Brilliant. Never ever dabbled myself – 34 years in the Army stopped me for fear of being discharged under Compulsory Drugs Testing.
As for football, whilst I have ALWAYS loved the game, I was never much cop, and was always the last picked at school teams with the final picker, after being told “You can have Steve” responding with “Oh! Do I have to”.
No not that bad really, but not good enough to compete in anything other than Sunday leagues.
Total respect mate.
Okay ……… I was. But I don’t remember him ….. unless of course he is the man who gave me some ‘sound’ financial advice one time!
Found him. He began his career at Walsall in 1961, before moving on to Shrewsbury Town in 1963. He spent five years at the club, before winning a move to First Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1968. The next year he moved on to Bolton Wanderers, before signing with Port Vale in July 1972. He left Vale Park in May 1974, and later turned out for Oswestry Town.
Seeing as I did not see Wolves play until 1969 (v Man City), I have an excuse for not remembering him!!
You really need to get out more!!
