Being proven wrong twice within 24 hours has never felt so good.

Progressing in the JPT and keeping Bakary Sako at the club were positive developments I didn’t expect.
Sako would leave, that much was certain (to me at least), not just on Monday, but throughout the summer months.
I was also harboring secret fears of an upset last night at the hands of our near neighbours, despite being strong favourites.
I needn’t have worried.
First the board and then our young team found the resolve to continue healing the scars and extend the feel good factor beyond the international break.
And just how good do things feel right now?
The squad we have at our disposal has the requisite quality to continue a promotion charge and supporter/club relations haven’t been this positive since the early years of McCarthy.
But the one thing Kenny Jackett will have to battle that Mick didn’t in his debut season is expectation.
Unlike the class of 2006 who, against the odds, made that exciting journey to the Championship play-offs, a top six finish will be considered the minimum requirement this time. Even the play-offs might be viewed as failure by some.
And based on what we’ve seen so far, perhaps it should be.
Last night demonstrated Wolves can compete with opposition of League One caliber without many of their best players even turning up.
Winning without the experience of Ricketts and Doyle or the vision and goals of Evans and Griffiths shows the sort of depth other teams at this level can only dream of.
Walsall got the draw in over 90 minutes of course, a fact that shouldn’t be overlooked, but that owed as much to sloppy finishing and slack defending on our part as much as anything else.
Save for a few short spells, the Saddlers rarely threatened our goal, yet somehow still managed to register twice.
When they return to Molineux in two weeks, I hope Wolves aren’t as charitable.

Just sticking this in quickly to say it is the first time I have ever been first!!
I bet you say that to all the girls!!
“been” first mate. Not “come” first!!!!
A good summary of last night and where we are at the moment I think we are all relatively happy so far. I was in Wolverhampton at the weekend and there is a definite optimism in the air. However I will be interested to see how we cope with stiffer tests that we will face such as Posh and the O’s particularly in defence where l think we still need another centre back as l don’t think l will ever be totally confident in Stearman and Elokobi.
Any chance of loaning out Johnson and O’Hara to anyone, the silence of any prospective takers is deafening they must be so proud !
Really good win last night against a good side that started poorly but recovered very well during the game.
I’m not sure how to feel about Sako. At times brilliant but at others frustrating. I’m not sure whether I can stomach seeing him give the ball away after trying to beat his man for the sixth time every game. His set piece delivery is also very hit and miss. Some corners are world class, others are seemingly attempts to hit the opposite corner flag. At 2-1 up last night he had a chance to play in Bjorn or McDonald on the counter attack but instead chose to lob a shot into the keepers arms, a poor decision that otherwise could have seen us wrap the game up.
Maybe the timing of the bid from Forest left too little time to get a proper replacement. If that’s right, an early bid in January might see him go
Had to wait for the goals and result on my mobile, as I couldn`t get to the golden palace last night. Great result lads – thanks.
Winning games is a nice habit to get into, and it was so unmccarthyish to blood even more new faces from the ranks, a good omen for the squad for the rest of the season.
The club with Jackett`s guidance is now starting to generate a head of steam, and it must be another first not selling of our saleable assets for the cash. So many refreshing developments – it just takes your breath away, is this really wolves?
W ith our current youngsters doing all they can to prove they should play
E very game, it makes me smile to see so much change in such a short space of time.
A bit of me at the start of the season felt that we would not be able to get rid of the real
M ess we found ourselves in, yet here we are in 2nd spot having not lost a game so far.
W e mustn’t get too excited though, as we still have a very long way to go and I feel we will
O nly be able to judge what the outcome can be nearer Christmas time. I have been
L istening to a few friends of mine who judge us as Champions already. I see their point of
V iew but still feel it is too early to make that call. I feel there is still some way to go to
E nsure we have a very successful campaign, and by that I mean promotion. We are not as
S harp as we need to be and should be finishing teams off a lot easier.
A mazing as our position may be we still have a lot of work to do, but I honestly believe our
Y oungsters, supported by our experienced players, can get it right and make this happen.
W e all are shouting about Doyle and Sako. IMO Doyle is an “attacking midfielder” who works
E xtremely hard – glad he stayed. Sako is key to our wide play – glad he stayed.
UTW/FOWB
I’m just asking without trying to jinx anything but when Southampton went up , did they do it unbeaten ?
I don’t think so, no.
If we keep improving nnd maybe bring in a loan or two (winger and back up centre back) I think we should win this league at a canter. Peterborough are strong, but I still think we have much more, as we should do and Orient haven’t got a huge squad.
Nice to stay in the cup. A cup run is always a boost and will give the fans more to be pleased about. Happy for McLinden to score too, he’s a real prospect.
The team still need time to gel. With players like McDonald, Sako, Griffiths, Doyle, Sigurdarson, Evans, and attacking fullbacks like Doherty and Golbourne the team has a lot of unfulfilled potential. The results have gone our way, but I suspect we’ll score a lot more goals when the players get to know each other. There’s been ringed some changes up front from the start of the season. Several combinations have been tried: Cassidy and Griffiths, Sigurdarson and Griffiths, Sigurdarson and Doyle, Doyle and Griffiths, Siggurdarson and McAlinden. It’s healthy for the players and the competition but maybe not when it comes to gel. Chelsea won the game with Mourinho when the played with rotation system, and it can work for wolves also if the players know the tactics in and out. I believe the 3 strongest strikers sort of have crystalized themselves out as Griffiths, Sigurdarson and Doyle, still strikers like McAlinden and Cassidy are expected to make an impact and offer real competition to the “established” ones. I expect Jacket not to give anyone free tickets if they underperform. 4-3-3 is a formation which suits us well, if the strikers are given free roles up front.
Another impressive performance by the youngsters.
Particular kudos to Aaron McCarey for the penalty saves.
The way things are going I think that when he is fully fit, Hennesey is going to be third choice ‘keeper and might well be shipped out in January.
It’s still early days…..
But all seems ok…..
…healing the scars … that’s the bit that really cheers me . So much has gone wrong recently .
I think that we all feel a ‘positive’ coming out of the club now ..long may it continue . Thanks again Thomas ..
Onwards and upwards .
Anyone got any info on the young French striker ibraham Keita who was on the bench last night . Other than him playing for the French under 16 s and that he s scored a few for our under 18 s I know nothing about him . For kenny to put someone so young on the bench ( what is he 18!?? ) he must be some prospect eh ? Anyone shed any light !.?
He scored hattrick in his last game, so he certainly know where the goalmouth is. We’ve got a lot of promising attacking players know, and it will be interesting to follow Torras, Eusebio and the romanian guy down the road. Maybe some of them even can knock on the first team’s door soon.
Whilst quaffing vast amounts of champagne with my dearest Keatherine, I was watching the match via my own satellite (which I hire out to Sky/BBC etc). Whilst impressed with the early play of Wolves I had a feeling in the back of my mind that Walsall were going to nick a goal or two.
I have to confess I did not see all of the game due to the ‘attention’ Katherine was giving to my ‘below the belt’ area. Indeed it was only after I changed to the ‘doggy’ position I managed to have a decent view. All things ‘came’ together in the end, though my climatic shout of ‘gooooaaaallll’ received a rather odd look from the lady. ….
Love & Peace to all
🙂
Sevlow, you’ve finally figured out why rednecks do it doggy style…..so they can both watch NASCAR at the same time.
Anyroad, where is the piggin’ postcard, Thomas?
Which is why it is sometimes referred to as ASSCAR
Sorry Thomas for further lowering the tone and all that.
Clive, postcard is lost.
Andy in San Francisco says he posted it onto the next address, which was in Santiago, Chile. The bloke in Chile hasn’t replied to my email (yet) to confirm he’s received it.
So I’m waiting to see if Santiago man replies (will chase it up again next week). Hopefully he’ll have the card and everything is rosy. If not, we’ll have to post a new one out.
I prefer ‘Wolfy’ position myself.
It’s a bit like doggy but harder in the tackle.
Rodeo position’s interesting. It’s the same as doggy but half way through you tell her she’s not as good as her sister.
You have to hang on tight, mind.
Harder “in” the tackle, or harder “on” your tackle?
And if you have a “harder on”………………………….
Thanks Kalir .. And sevlo …on a match day … Really ..?
Of course being in League 1 isn’t really where we should be, but I don’t think it’s doing us any harm to have a platform for younger players to get more experience, and for the club in general to get back to winning ways! What joy to feel confident and positive again!
A lot of that isn’t the club – I never lost faith in ‘Wolves’ per se, but it was a complete lack of confidence in ownership and management.
NOT selling Sako and Doyle shows that there has been a watershed of sorts, where Moxey hasn’t immediately sold our best assets: A positive step! Would that that had been his stance last year with Jarvis and Fletcher!
Playing the kids and injecting new blood is a positive step!
It just feels like we’re on the right track for the first time in years, and the fact that we’ve heard little about or from M&M, and a lot of sense from Kenny is a very good thing and exactly how it should be!
I’d like a good run in the JPT, as hopefully this will be our last time in it for a long time & we’d also have a good chance of picking up silverware.
That’s right Walsall F**k off hahaha!
Am i right in saying Blake and Hunt still havent found clubs ? Half of Micks boys now doing the night shift.
Hunt has signed for Blackpool I think. SEB should have recovered from his injury but is without a club. He wasn’t likely to get one whilst injured anyway. Wolves could well be advised to consider re-signing him on the basis of paying by appearances. Nobody thought he would want to play in League One but beggars can’t be choosers. He could surely bang them in for us, but on the other hand he doesn’t fit the bill as a big target man.
Great news.
Matt Doherty has signed a three year deal.
Another feather in the cap of King Kenny.
He’ll look like a full Indian Chief soon!
Not such great news.
Wolves were the third highest payers of agent’s fees in the Football League last season.
Another feather lost from the cap of the man responsible.
Jez – “call me Bald Eagle” – Moxey.
Thats what i like about you DOOG no bad news just Great news and not such great news.
That’s cos we signed so many players from abroad, surely? Doesn’t it show the 2 Ms were backing the managers?
Don’t quite understand your point.
Are you saying that only foreign players have agents?
Didn’t get to stream or listen live to this one as I was at work.
Just had the BBC live score minimized.
Was obviously disheartened to see the late equalizer, and was unsure of the format from their on in…………..Replay, extra time etc.
Then the Penalty Shootout final result popped up.
A smile crossed my face,…a great result for the lads, and a great match winning effort from the young keeper.
It looks like it shouldn’t have come to it, but nerves held, talent prevailed and the win was ours.
Come on me Babbies.
I awaited eagerly for the highlights on Wolves Player the next day, and was amazed that after the highlights of the 90+ minutes play, only 2 of the penalties from perhaps 10 minutes of the nights the most exciting events were included.
Poor show Wolves Player. Surely they could have done better than that.
I pay good money for my few time delayed snippets of Gold and Black action, at least try and include the best bits.
I found the full shoot out on YouTube, why should that be.
Moan over.
Cant get too excited about the England game never really been able to love Wolves and the national side with all its residue of hype, exclusiveness and favouritism (not to mention poor performances).
In this quiet moment perhaps i can pay my respects to a fav contributer of mine who has ridden his mouse into the sunset hobgoblin in hand – OG R.I.P. Connection failed 2013.
Re postcard…Santiago man has it, but is just being a bit lazy. He’s my brother, so I’ll chase him up (again!). Apologies.
And message to DOOG: great to see a Captain Beefheart fan amongst the Wolves faithful -saw your video posts on youtube. Big eyed beans indeedio. A classic.
Cheers Declan.
Isn’t it just brilliant?!
The man was a genius.
“Wolves remained in second place in League One despite the weekend’s inactivity”
Line taken directly from our wonderful official sanitized site!!
Proofreaders untie!!
After basking in the glorious West Florida sun for a few days, I came back, eagerly anticipating a plethora of blog comments, only to find the site looks like the annual apathy meeting place.
Just because we didn’t have a game over the weekend, does that mean we aint got nothing to discuss/moan/argue about?
Can we not give That Man in Santiago a verbal kick up the jacksee about the postcard?
Who won the last wonderful prize, Thomas?
How about them Houston Dynamos?
Got stuffed 1 – 4 last night in front of a massive 18000 crowd.
Oh well, if y’all aint gonna play, I’m off.
And now for a very, very old joke, what is the difference between The Shit and a triangle?
A triangle has 3 points.
I’ll give you something to moan about Clive.
Read the statement by Mr Morgan on the E&S website about all the money Wolves have lost during our fall from the Prem.
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2013/09/07/wolves-losses-will-be-a-shock-says-steve-morgan/
I read it and was nearly rendered speechless.
“Where’s the fracking money gone?!”
I could not believe my eyes when I read it. What does he want sympathy. Mismanagement always comes home to roost. Of course though any accountant knows that there are many legitimate ways to present numbers. How many companies involved, who carries what etc etc.
The fans tried to tell him often enough, I suggest he has a long hard talk with his CEO. How much of that money has simply been wasted on stupid knee jerk reactions.
Just hope lessons learned and KJ gets the support he needs and deserves.
For me the big issue right now is Johnson and O’Hara. Of course we do not know whats going on but to me it says everything you need to know about them, that they are prepared to collect on their contracts whilst sitting on their asses doing nothing in return and also watching their careers go down the tubes. Is this a waiting game to see who blinks first. Does anyone think they should be made to contribute something in return.
Wolves were inactive while most teams played. Makes sense to me.
A bit like a typical Saturday last season.
And the season before, and the season ………..
Good luck to Andy Mutch at stafford rangers
ok, now I m convinced; we ll keep winning forever!
Wolves Walsall 2-1
