Cathartic experiences aren’t part of the sales package when you buy a ticket for the Molineux…
…But if they were, most of us were getting stuck in to the special offer, courtesy of 93 minutes which repaired, refreshed and generally reset our season’s balance.

Remembrance before kick-off, as a lone bugle cried into the cold air, and reflection on everything that is right about Wolverhampton Wanderers at full time – Hey Jude a much warmer soundtrack for Nuno’s restorative three cheers.
Any win against Aston Villa will raise a smile, but this could have been any fixture against anyone and we’d have surely felt the same, such was the reviving manner of it.
For the first half at least, we dominated possession in ways we remember so fondly back in the day, in a 3-4-3 formation that once redefined a division. Our full backs such a persuasive force up the pitch and our back three so cool on the ball (minus the colossal Boly here). Dendoncker, in particular, looked the smoothest of operators.
Ruben Neves was back at the levels which made us pinch ourselves every weekend and scored a goal synonymous with his breakthrough year. And going forward, we looked so unplayable that I shuddered at the thought of facing Jota, Traore and Jimenez at full tilt. The Villa defence were doing likewise, literally, it seemed.
In mentioning the past, maybe we went back there to shape the future. This was back to Plan A, without compromise, and a performance laced with the same individual brilliance that took the championship by storm where many of us still reflect most fondly.
And in Adama Traore, redemption is complete. The same player who drew scoffs and scowls from the Villa faithful once (and some of our own) was drawing gasps and gulps from the very same mouths as he absolutely dazzled in old gold. It was the 45th anniversary of the Rumble in the Jungle a few weeks ago and our number 37 was a throwback to that historic night in Zaire.
After inducing twisted claret blood in the first half, Traore tuned it down for a large chunk of the second, suggesting at one point he might even be carrying a knock. Then, in one moment of rope-a-dope magic, he’d gone to another level, featuring a mesmerising flurry and a crushing knock-out blow via the boot of Jimenez, to disbelieving opponents. It was so beautiful precisely because it was so calculated, with a knowing nod to the bench from beneath his teammates arms and limbs during celebrations.
It was back to our counter attacking brilliance after a half of total domination, reminding us all that if we do get that first goal in games, we’re a hellish team to play against thereafter.
The only regret, if we can call it such, was a missed opportunity to rack up more goals in a unique season which has delivered already, featuring nine from Leicester at Southampton and eight for City against Watford. In our case, we should have scored six, laid down a marker and created a red-letter result for us all to revisit in the years to come.
But to labour the point would be unfair on a team that has reminded us why we’re in the Premier League – and what got us here in the first place.
It was a day to remember.

What a day, what a result. I will not be able to wipe the smile off my face for weeks. The Neves strike was brilliant and Adama is coming good, oh so good. Cant understand why we are missing so many chances, we should have bagged 3 or 4 today easy.
I think that’s something like 60+ chances in the past 3 games and only 4 scored. That must be a concern for Nuno because we are not always going to keep clean sheets. However, I would be more concerned if we were not making the chances to start with. The team are really starting to fly after a difficult start coming to grips with the combination of European and domestic football and Nuno having to adjust his Plan A and be more flexible in the use of the small but very talented squad.
Great day. Great performance. Great result. On another day could’ve been five such was the gulf in class which was epitomised by Joao Moutinho – can’t remember a better performance by a Wolves player in the 56+ years I’ve been watching.
For our tomorrow they gave their today. We shall NEVER forget them. X
OODCL
Moutinho is pure class. His mere presence makes everything else tic
Excellent performance. As so often we created enough chances to have made it 5:1.
This was a 2-1 massacre, a true shellacking… a 5-1 score line really reflected our total dominance of a game.
Fair enough Villa changed their shape after half time which negated the earlier threat but oh how we should have scored some more goals… only prevented by good saves, desperate deflections , poor final choice and the woodwork.
Still you only get 3 points either way so going into another boring break … we’re on a high with Braga coming up….
Traore and Raul were close but my MOTM was Moutinho…. 5ft 7 and football heaven….
Yes Moutinho might be 5.7 but he is head and shoulders above the rest. The same on Thursday night. Amazing fitness and appetite. A future coaching role at Molineux must happen to be part of Nunos empire.
Great result today should have been five nil.
His fitness, drive, and determination set him up as a great role model for younger players, he would be a great addition to the staff.
Hold on to your horses. He’s got a minimum of two years top level football in him yet.
For me, the revelation was Donck. Everyone else did superbly what we already knew they had in their lockers but Dendoncker produced a Bolyesque performance at right centre half and regularly put his body in where it hurts to defy the Villains attackers time and time again.
Absolutely brilliant display. Apart from 10-15 mins when Villa were on the front trying for an equaliser we were totally in control. Chap behind me said just watch the stuffy bastards get an equaliser. That was my concern until the magnificent Adama showed the villa bloke a clean pair of heals. Squared
It to Raul who for once found the target. Magnificent victory. Fully deserved. The liquid football was back. a joy to watch. Love Nuno. Love this team. Love Wolves.
An absolutely fantastic performance , the score line of 2-1 totally flattered them such was our dominance. I think we could be more clinical of course but that’s being picky. Some great performances obviously Adama and Raul will get the plaudits along with Ruben with that stunning strike , but I must mention the The Donk a really classy performance alongside Coads and Saiss , i have a feeling he’ll stay there when big Wily returns.
Absolutely terrific performance. Total domination, especially in a first half which saw Villa chasing shadows as we created chance after golden chance, only to fail to apply the finishing touch until……..up steps Ruben Neves. A delightfully worked free kick, a surgical strike from his right boot and the Wolves are one up.
The second half saw Villa huff and puff, but there was no way they were blowing ole Wolfies house down until a final flourish from Raul sealed the result. Cue much celebration in the pub, even more so when the league table came up and showed us nestled handily in eighth. With the knockout stage of the Europa’s also within our grasp, what a start to the season it’s been. What a second half of the season it promises to be.
Gotta say that was the best winger performance by a Wolves player since Waggy gave John Kaye twisted blood down the poorthorns.
A 2-1 thrashing.
And, I claim three points in the prediction league.
We had three stonewall penalty appeals denied by either VAR or a totally inept referee.
We would have scored all three, and those added to the two the ref couldn’t disallow, would have meant my 5-1 prediction being correct.
The only player who didn’t play well was Rui, coz he had nothing to do!
Had to loff at their left back who went off with blurred vision!
Not surprising, no one gets a good view of Adama, he’s that fast!!
Both goals were brilliant, and so different in their build up.
I watched the Pool City match later, and they might just as well give the title to Pool now.
Biased doesn’t even come close.
And, a little bird told me that ten minutes before KO, the ref informed both teams that VAR wasn’t working.
Interesting!
Where are Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts when you need them??
( some of you will get that)
Happy Bunny in Texas today, and for the next two weeks.
Three little words, Brummie babies……
Mind The Gap.
Decent movie – Conspiracy theory.
I remember Waggy’s day out too, it was a 4-2 win over TescoTown. Hughie Curran scored a screamer at our end and I fell off the barrier I was sitting on as a young lad.
Hello all,
Been a ‘voyeur’ of this site for years, but never had the stones to post…until now!
Before I continue, gotta say, you seem like a really good bunch.
Anyway, been a STH for many years, and just enjoying the ride, wherever it takes us…
Not got anything too insightful, as I’ve had a few this evening, and TBF, I don’t think we as fans can really have anything to complain of ATM, as these are literally dreamland times (for me at least).
Anyway, I never usually go on opposition fans’ web sites but because as there seems to be a bit more of an edge between us and Villa over the last few years (probably because we’re properly competing with them), I saw the post below and thought I just HAD to share it with you, which for me sums up another reason why there’s more of an edge:
“?They had only won 2 games before today,i think they’ve been found out a bit,not by us though! We’re a much bigger club, this shouldn’t be happening”.
‘This shouldn’t be happening?’ absolutely hilarious, how I laughed!
Anyway, I do apologise for posting what’s most-likely the worst post you’ve had on here!
‘I’ll get me coat’.
Welcome to the madhouse, Mighty Atom!
We are always open armed towards fellow Wolves fans, and indeed fans of other teams, as long as there is no abuse or racism.
Differing points of view are the bread and butter of the folk on this blog, and a weird bunch we are too!
All contributions are happily received.
As for me, I have made some amazing friends over the 10 years of the blog, and I cherish them all.
Glad to have you on board.
Ps
We already have a few voyeurs, don’t we Stu?
Thanks for the welcome Clive, much-appreciated!
Hope you’re all back to normal after the weather woes you suffered a couple of years back.
Yes we are, thanks, if anything about me can be classed as normal, before anyone else says something!
Welcome The Mighty Atom.
I see that you’ve named yourself after Mr Moutinho.
Well, if you turn out to be only half the blogger that he is a footballer, you won’t be doing too bad.
He was sensational yesterday!
And all contributions are welcome on this blog.
Apart from Clive’s of course, but we just have to put up with him.
Welcome to the Blog MA
You will be happy, disappointed, elated, disgusted (Clive) suicidal, grey before your time, but most of all you will be part of our pack.
The Wolves blog is one of the best sites, if not the best site there is, to let off steam, share days like yesterday and meet some wonderful guys and gals with one thing in common. The mighty Wolves, see what I did there, eeee, I surprise myself at times.
Anyway, through all that BS, welcome.
Thanks guys, again, much-appreciated ?
Please don’t expect too much from me!
Welcome on board Mighty Atom. Post away, this site is great for good banter, but more importantly sensible posts too.
I’ve no idea who Malta’s left back is but I bet he’s had better Sundays than this one….
Just watched MOTD 2. Well I sat in a state of drunken euphoria. But fair play to the panel who gave us the plaudits. Good old BBC had us on third. Behind the massive intense Man utd v Brighton. In the next 2 or 3 years they won’t be able to ignore us anymore. FWAW.
Listened to sports report on BBC1 this morning.
Liverpool and City, et al, lets talk to an ex Citeh player to get his opinion to Citeh…..
Manure played a blinder blah, blah, blah now up to seventh………..
Oh and Wolves won as well.
Thats six words at the very end of the sports review.
Lets beat manure in the final of the europa league and finish above them in the league
CALL ME PICKY BUT…
We’re moving the ball around the pitch beautifully and there are some superb individual performances but if we’d have been up against a better team we’d have been picked off today.
Our build up work is a joy to behold and the back three throw their bodies at the ball making Rui a spectator. We do however seem to be over complicating the business of hitting the back of the net. Not every goal needs to be a goal of the month contender.
The performances over the last couple of weeks have been mouth watering. I’d just like the score lines to reflect that.
Hallo, Mr. Picky!!!!
It will come, have no fear.
We are gonna give someone a Leicester/Southampton soon.
Fabulous performance. There `s light years difference between us and the Villa in terms of quality. It will take them many a day to get over this shellacking.
Just a word about Moutinho. I`ve been going to the Mol for over 70 years, and in that time I have never seen such a brilliant midfielder in the old gold. Great ball skills and superb vision, coupled with a magnificent work ethic. He may be thirty three, but he plays with the verve and commitment of someone ten years younger. Amazing.
???We’ve got Neves,
Reuben Neves
I just don’t think you understand
Nuno Santo’s man
Better than Zidane
We’ve got Reuben Neves.???
I want to take a moment here and praise the guy from the highest pinnacle, he scored an absolutely beautiful goal and then if that weren’t enough, he only goes and sticks his career on the line with a daring tackle which led to the ball bouncing free to Traore, who then took off and skinned the defender to lay a beautiful ball to Jimmy to slot home with ease.
Neves, my MOTM by a country mile.
When you get too many WhatsApp’s after the match I had to share just a couple.
And another one. Lmfao
Happy to finally see a result that jibes with the effort our team has put in.
That being said, I have to say “Nyet to Neto”.
He’s just a kid AgentCyan. Not long ago many wanted to say Taraa to Traore.
I’ve definitely changed my tune from “Never to Neves”.
As they say, ‘judge not, lest you be judged’. Otherwise it will be ‘adios agentcyan’. 🙂
Didn’t get to see the match from my neck of the woods, but listened to the Wolves commentary as a second best and later watched the extended highlights. From what I saw and heard, it could easily have been 4-1. Great result … 2 wins in a week, up to 8th and just 1 point off 5th! Went out for a 10 mile run after the game and it felt like a canter! I’m gonna tape these games to listen to on my races. 🙂
I think Jota is still just a touch off full fitness. Once he gets there, there’ll be no stopping us. Same as what happened last year. Good timing for the international break for a change so some of the players can recover and continue to get fit. Can’t wait to resume where we left off today!
Told you all not to worry, a couple of months back, that we’d be top 10 by Xmas and on track for that Europa Cup. I think I was a bit off in my prediction. If we play our cards right, might be top 6 by then!
Keep it coming!
Go Wolves!!!
just gutted
I had revised all my algorithms based on recent performances to provide my prediction and they spit out 2-1
then I got up at 5.45 am to watch match and realized too late that I hadn’t posted my scoreline
I’ll take a virtual 3 pts
Won $20 from my old brummie mate up in Vancouver …and he says they need to spend in January to stay up…. I think they need a better manager.first ..can’t remember us having so much time and space because Villa were a shambles
I’ll still be happy with 12 points from the next 7 games but that’s 3 for starters
Next up,,,, a trip to the seaside…they need sending back down to league 2 btw
happy days
Marin Wolf,
I’m guessing you’re a 9ers fan too? Happy days on Yankee football too this year … hope the good times continue tomorrow! Hoping for an Europa Cup and a Superbowl this year!
Go Niners!
Go Wolves!
Indeed GoWolves
Since moving to Bay area I’ve witnessed Three World Series wins, Three NBA championships ( should have been 5 in a row but that team sadly now destroyed by injuries}
and now, after years of misery ( some parallels here…) the 49ers putting the fear of Dog into allcomers
happy days
I still hope for a Stanley Cup too one day … those Sharks keep getting closer!
Agreed Marin, they stop us getting more that 1200 allocation because of their piddly little ground.
The only ground my Jen de Wolf can’t get a ticket, (she’s Silver away STH)
Brilliant performance just wish we would score more goals as nearly came unstuck if they had scored earlier would have been really tense.
Would like to knw why it would not let me post a comment yesterday.
A few notes from yesterday’s game (I won’t call it a match because it was a total MISmatch).
If there’s a better all round midfielder than Moutinho in the Premier League, I’ll eat Clive’s John Richards signed underpants.
Raul should have scored 4 but, even though it looked like he couldn’t hit a barn door for most of the game, he still came up with the goods in the end.
Adama Traore is turning into David Wagstaffe on speed. I wonder if he has a fag in the loo before each game like the great man did?
Neves has found his shooting boots at last and is beginning to look like the ‘Better than Zidane’ version we loved a while ago.
The Doc looks back to his marauding best and his link up play with Adama will cut through better defences than Veela’s.
Diogo Jota is not QUITE there yet, but getting close. His touch can be heavy and he is carrying the ball too far, but we all know what he can do, and he’s not far off doing it.
The atmosphere at Molineux yesterday was back to its LOUD best. Real shivers down the spine stuff!
We need to be much more clinical with our finishing. Our goal difference would be phenomenal if we took most of the chances we create.
The fat lad in The South Bank who had his shirt off and was wobbling his tits at the Villa fans needs to stop doing it.
It fair put me off my half time Twix.
In recent games Neves has pushed further forward and, obviously, it’s paid off. Which makes me wonder, whilst not wanting to be presumptuous, could it be Saint Nuno reads our Blog. If so,may I humbly suggest, when Adama puts in a cross could a run be made to the near post. This would give an opportunity to get in front of the first defender and create space for Raul or whoever, to get on the end. I accept this could be without merit because Nuno always comes up with better ideas.
Also, maybe overlooked because of Traore’s brilliance and the Neves/Moutinho masterclass,Donk had an outstanding game. Coolly dealing with all Villa could muster and adding excellent distribution.
Only as we began, understandably given Thursday’s heroics, to tire on the hour mark did Villa get a look in. Actually not really a look in,more a glimpse.
Dang! Was that fun or what? Movin’ on up. Go Wolves!
After about 8 pints last night a new song for Adama popped into my head. It would be good to sing it when he leaves a hapless full back in his wake. To the 1970’s Middle of the Road : WHERE’S ADAMA GONE? WHERE’S ADAMA GONE? WHERE’S ADAMA GONE? WHERE’S ADAMA GONE? FAR FAR AWAY. FAR FAR AWAY!
I really like this one easy to pick up, very catchy and nice bit of humour. I would happily join in with this.
Could I also suggest one for those aged over 65 which is not easy to pick up but has happy memories. To the tune of Champion the Wonder Horse. Yes I know nobody has heard of it.
Like a streak of lighting flashing cross the sky.
Like the swiftest arrow whizzin from a bow
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly
You’ll hear about him everywhere you go
The time will come when everyone will know the name of
Adama the Wanderer.
I’m liking it Jackomac but I’m far far too young to understand… what the meaning is of Champion the Wonder horse…?
Like the lyrics mate…..
I’ve seen Grealish quoted several times that the players and management at Veela want to follow in the footsteps of Wolves. My advice is don’t meddle with alchemy unless you know what you’re doing. Their are some powerful wizards at work down at the Mol laboratory.
I was just getting used to Neves talking to the ball telling it where to go when I noticed that Traore’s feet are actually two inches off the ground when he runs. Talking to a cat on the way into the ground he was saying that when they went to Armenia in the Europa Cup Joao asked them to go via Transylvania. He also said no-one has ever seen Joaos birth certificate.
I was reasonably happy to go along with all of this, but then on Sunday i watched the cross-field passing from our back three and I fear this may have gone too far. Some will say, it clearly laughs in the face of nature. I worry that somehow Nuno has conjured up the spirits of Holland 1974.
And yet, is it not a glorious thing to behold!
If anyone wants to see a few highlights and both Wolves goals as seen from The Steve Bull upper, I managed to get some half decent footage on my trusty video camera.
Just cut and paste the link.

Lovely stuff mate.
Oh Yes. Cheers for that Thomas.
Jolly good that. Thanks Doog!
Excellent can just see my bald head in A92, not a STH just mine for the game.
Is that the seat or the bald head?
You must have been sat not far from me DOOG. Had my seat since the days they were red. Now that is a long time ago!
Great performance ….even though I thought Villa were poor, Dendoncker in my opinion had a good game in the back 3 ….it goes to show without the talisman that Mr Boly has become we easily coped with their so called forward unit
Aston Villa however without their own talisman were not at the races and will struggle to stay up without that Grealish chappy in their team
I placed an optimistic bet at the beginning of the season of a top 4 finish for us this season and even though there are 4 teams achieving greater results at this moment we have only lost twice so far and I’m far from pessimistic of our prospects as the season develops, if perhaps looking at the league this morning with tinted glasses
At this time I think the extra competitive football we have played has improved and not hindered the progress of the team ,however will this impact on our performances in the New Year if the squad is not expanded in key positions?
Its Monday and I’m a very happy, if a little grey around the gills, Wolves fan
What a game! What a team!
When Neves scored I yelled so loud the dog vanished upstairs for the next hour! Difficult to single players out as they were all great but yes Moutinho was pure class. We should have had 4 or 5 in the net.
Thank you Wolves
Hiya Border Wolf… How’s the Tractor boy conversion coming along?…
Coming along nicely now! 20 years to get there though!
That was rather good
🙂
At last, recognition of a job well done…

As I said to Doog higher up Stu, you can grab the embed code for Tweets and should be able to directly paste it into the comments if you want to slap it directly here. Not essential of course, but just in case you find it useful.
Thanks Thomas, I can see why you run a blog and not me. 🙂
I like seeing it again and again anyway.
You will have to show me how to do that grabbing embedded codes thing one day.
Stu,
Why are you grabbing bed clothes????
Phil ‘O’ Stein…
Sheet on da Veela
Sheet on da Veela tonight
Doog’s given us Blanket coverage
Can’t quilt make it out
Leave it
Leave it
Just couldn’t get that clean sheet, could we?
Must be Bedder’s fault.
Eiderdown ed a few if we had!
I took the time to click on 881 people are talking about this underneath. It is clear the plastic scouscers are busy tweeting from their armchairs across the country. Fabinho. Fabinho. Fabinho…………………..wankers.
Can’t add anything more about our overall performance that hasn’t already been said, every man was superb.
Seeing the second goal again, it was brilliant. Traore bursting past Luiz then squaring it to Jimmy, who had just dropped off a couple of yards, excellent movement and he got the goal his performance deserved.
Would have liked to have got more goals obviously, as we created so many great chances but it’s hard to complain really. We’ve got the win, smashed those arrogant Veela b*stards and we seem to have the balance of the team just right.
Well done lads, fantastic game, enjoy a well deserved rest those of you who aren’t on international duty.
It sounds an oxymoron to describe a 2-1 win as a thrashing, but there you go. My only quibble is that we should have won by the 5-1 margin from that bloke in Houston.
I know that Moutinho, Neves , and Jimenez were great, but my MOTM was once again, Traore. With the build of an all-in wrestler and the speed of lightening, he was unplayable. Jota is not yet back to his best but deserved a couple of goals. He needs to keep his head because he gets fouled regularly. Traore can brush off the fouls like swatting flies but Jota is lighter and more vulnerable. That said, even Traore couldn’t evade that agricultural lunge by Mings, which happily led to the Neves goal. I couldn ‘t understand the Villa line in defending the free kick, as Neves had acres of space to tee up his long range guided missile. Haven’t they watched any Neves goals? Obviously not !
I feel Villa have the quality to survive if Grealish keeps fit, but they are in some danger of doing a Fulham. They spent significantly in the summer but haven’t really upgraded their championship squad.
Up to eighth in the big league and one point away from the knockout stage in Europe. Who said we wouldn’t be able to cope with both? Onwards and upwards.
Beautiful tactical goal to create the space. Jota is hovering in that area before the free is taken – he then runs forward, taking a defender deeper to create even more space. Then Jota sets a little screen to prevent any defenders rushing out to Neves to create even more time over the ball.
Quote of the day from, Wolves 77 club who posted this on facebook.
“A huge respect to the travelling Villa fans today. Holding a 90 minutes silence is incredibly respectful from them!”
Very happy after sitting in a pub full of veela w****** .
God can they moan !
And there was i with a great big grin splattered across my face.
Usual excuses from them but who gives a flying f***.
Top first half not so top second i suppose they had to do something to try and get back in the game .
A tad disappointing that we didn’t stick five up em in the first forty five but someone is going to get it shortly thats for sure.
I did think we tired towards the end and let them in when it would have been much better to finish with a clean sheet but after playing on Thursday its understandable .
Traore has dropped out of the spanish squad with an un specified injury
I get the feeling he wants to work on his game with nuno rather than warm the bench with people who dont really matter at the moment.
He is our not so secret weapon and if you saw the stats on motd last night is starting to get a very good reputation for himself .
That mings tackle was very close to a red card. he can expect a lot more of that i think.
Wonderful day today no veela shirts to be seen anywhere
Brilliant report mate. What a cracking performance that was! As you say, a throwback to one of our many dominant Championship showings. Very reminiscent of the last time Villa came to Molineux actually.
I’ve seen plenty of excuses from their fans. Missing players or not, they were completely sub-standard for most of the game and looked a million miles away from our standard. I guess £150m doesn’t buy you much these days…
It was a great team performance but you’re right to point out our forward line. They are a frightening prospect at the moment. I think it’s only a matter of time before we give somebody a good hiding. Bournemouth away would be a nice place to do it…
Up the Wolves!
Like you Ben, I don’t buy the ‘you only won because x,y and z players were out’ line.
Their goalkeeper and centre-halves were the only ones who really had a decent game so I’m not sure Heaton/Engels would have elevated that performance significantly.
Grealish was a miss. I don’t think anyone would dispute that, but to have spent the money they have and be saying they had no chance because he didn’t make it speaks volumes about their recruitment.
Wolves were already missing Boly who is better than any defender they’ve got, but we reshuffled and look fine at the back (so far anyway). Had Patricio and Jota been out, we might not have been quite as effective, but I would still expect a strong team showing with Ruddy and Neto/Vinage/Cutrone stepping in to the first XI.
The fact is they didn’t setup to attack or defend in any meaningful way. It was far too easy to get through them and they were naff with the ball. Well, until the latter stages of the second half at least.
Credit to Dean Smith, he didn’t expect any slack for those absentees and correctly pointed to a lack of effort/intensity in their first half.
If roles are reversed in the return fixture and we’ve got a more makeshift eleven I’m confident we’ll be way more competitive, even with a smaller squad.
Yeah. We had two midfielders in the back 3. Stop blubbing Veeeela. You were dismantled and lucky to escape with a minus 1 goal deficit. 1982 anyone ?
Actually, we had three midfielders in the back 3.
(Coady was a midfielder too)
Great blog Ben.
Like you say, it was most pleasing to see us return to the Championship days of controlling games by dictating possession and simply playing teams off the park.
Some of the football (first half especially) I just gasped at, again, reminiscent of the Championship days.
Funny how going back to 343 and playing 3 natural MFs as CBs has led to us rediscovering our mojo. All of a sudden we’re playing out from the back again – even Rui is at it! The passing and movement was spot on. Swiftly playing delicious balls through the lines, feeding Doc and Traore on the right as soon as we can. It’s as if Neves and Moutinho were attached by a piece of string.
Special shoutout for Donk. I’ve been very vocal re his likeness to Dangerous Dave in MF – well now he’s Franco Baresi at RCB! Amazing how Donk is now coolness personified on the ball and dealing with his defensive duties with aplomb.
UTW!
Baresi. Now there was a player. Strange that Milan aren’t fit to lace our boots now. How times change and long may it continue.
People that know me understand that as much as I’m proud of my previous career, I will discuss it when asked, regale when invited to do so but don’t walk round with my medals, tie and blazer on all the time. But this time of year is different – it is special to me.
It is a time for me to privately reflect, to remember my comrades, my brothers and sisters of my military family and to respect the ultimate sacrifice made for their Country by some who I knew and many that I didn’t.
I am a Veteran, regardless of personal political views, it is an honour to serve one’s country, and there are way too many people in any country who no longer remember that fact.
Yesterday I proudly adorned my medals, along with my deceased father’s, and managed to quell the tears during last post. Thank you Wolves for making this day a memory that will remain with me. Not just the impeccable attitude of the silent masses, but the outstanding football that followed.
Poud to have served and proud to be Wolves fan.
100% endorsed, and proud to call you my friend.
Top post. Top man. Love that Brompton.
I have no words….just tears
Spot on Squaddie, we’re also proud of you and your Brothers in arms.
Well said Steve.
It was good to see you and your impressive array of medals in the flesh yesterday.
I hope I can speak for all bloggers when I say we’re proud of what you and your comrades have done for this country over many years.
I just hope that the next generation will keep the flag flying.
Sir…. it was an honour to sit with you yesterday mate … although the bloke in the West Park cafe was a bit of a wally in not moving for a worthy vet.
I asked you about your medals and one by one you were clear as to their merit… perched on that chest of yours.
I and those that know you Steve totally respect where you’ve been and the risks you’ve taken to keep us safe and liberated….
it’s just an honour buddy… it really is….
Total respect Sir B, total respect.

I see that Laurie Dalrymple has been appointed CEO of Harlequins Rugby Club.
Good to see that he’s got another job.
