The relationship between Mick McCarthy and us nuggets is rather like any marriage or partnership that matters.
The hedonistic highs, the miserable lows and all of those infectious idiosyncrasies in between are underpinned by patience, understanding and a refusal to take either party for granted.
Now might be the time to call Relate then, because judging by the scenes at Molineux, those values are eroding fast.

Defeat to Newcastle – however unlucky – is of huge concern when it is our fourth on the bounce and third at home.
It was more the whole experience though, that felt like a full blown tear-up between ‘husband and wife’ that was more worrying.
Incessant bickering and sniping from the stands whenever Karl Henry dared touch the ball, to the moment he got substituted to the loudest cheer of the day.
A reaction to make Mick scream with anger.
A team selection to make fans do likewise.
There is definitely no love lost between either party right now, with both at their most irritable worst.
Mick can point to the hapless incompetence of referee Mark Halsey for depriving us of a blatant penalty and his dishonest linesman flagging a clear goal at the death.
But fans will argue that we get the luck we deserve when Adlene Guedioura and Adam Hammill are ignored once again and Milijas dropped altogether.
The same fans will feel then completely vindicated when both players changed the game after coming onto the pitch.
That McCarthy works with these players on a daily basis makes such decisions all the more baffling.
Times change. Results have done likewise, while superior performances in the Carling Cup surely demanded recognition at the very least.
Insufferable levels of irritation then follow, manifesting itself in a reaction to Mick’s on-field lieutenant that made me cringe in pain.
Fickle? Maybe.
Or a cry for help from a set of supporters who feel completely unloved and ignored right now.
Any season ticket holder present for our Premier League ‘adventure’ under Mick will have seen 14 home wins out of a possible 42 games.
The three year monotony of a leaky defence, inability to play 4-4-2 and ever widening win-loss ratio is excruciating.
As is the clear understanding that we are in for our third successive relegation battle in three years.
Three minutes separated us and NPower League football and how Steve Morgan puffed his cheeks.
Yet only Roger Johnson was purchased in the most arrogant, misguided interpretation of the term ‘progress’ ever imaginable.
So we are destined to struggle and destined to lose against a team like Newcastle with a referee so biased in their favour.
In rugby terms, the first hour was akin to watching England with unforced errors a plenty along with predictable slow-ball that was easily dealt with.
True, their keeper made three inspired saves in chances created in isolation, rather than continued phases of play.
Then Guedioura and Hammill came on and changed then game like we have all been saying they would.
Fletcher again showed Doyle up as our only direct attacking option and deserved his goal from a Hammill cross.
The little Scouser then showed Jarvis up with another brilliant delivery that should have led to an equaliser, but for a linesman’s flag.
Common sense amongst most fans says the team that finished this game starts the next one at Albion, or at least features Hammill and Guedioura in some form.
Judging on past history, Mick McCarthy’s interpretation will differ.
And so the feud continues…

I have made exactly the same points on another site, though in the spirit of marital harmony I expressed cautious optimism that MM had finally seen the light. He still has a long way to go … and he had better wrestle the key to the treasure chest from Jez’s tightly clenched fist.
Spot on Ben.
Not much I can add really mate.
Although it won’t feel like it, probably a blessing we’ve got two weeks to cool off before the West Brom match.
We need to regroup and go again.
Without question, both Guedioura and Hammill should start that match, whether it’s in a 451 (with Fletcher the lone striker) or in a 442 without Henry.
Both showed the spark I referred to in my post last week, having a go and trying something different. It was only when they were introduced that we began to see some fluidity and menace in our attacking play.
Maybe, just maybe, in taking Henry off we saw a revolution in Mick McCarthy’s mind about the need to employ a different approach.
I’ve always backed our manager and I recognise that we’re always likely to lose a lot of games in this league BUT the amount of matches, particularly at home, that we’ve had to endure being 2 or 3 goals down at half-time is unforgivable.
In the baking October sunshine, that first half melted the hearts of every single Wolves fan inside Molineux and it’s totally understandable that the frustrations boiled over from the stands as the game unfolded.
We deserve better.
Thomas advocating we play Fletcher as the lone striker in a 4-5-1? I never thought I’d see the day.
On a serious note, Doyle had a decent game yesterday. But I think we both agree, Fletcher is more likely to find the back of the net against Albion.
Naughty, naughty Rob.
Even in my staunch defence of Doyle, I never suggested I preferred him to Fletcher.
Fletch is without question our most important player right now, let alone our most important striker.
Both strikers effectively scored a goal yesterday but both were also wasteful in front of goal. We shouldn’t overlook the fact that with 25 attempts on goal we only managed to find the net once.
We weren’t good enough at either end of the pitch.
Completely agree, Thomas – neither the defence nor attack were anywhere near good enough yesterday.
“Three minutes separated us and NPower League football and how Steve Morgan puffed his cheeks. Yet only Roger Johnson was purchased in the most arrogant, misguided interpretation of the term ‘progress’ ever imaginable.”
This and McCarthy’s clueless team selections and tactics sum up our current plight for me. One new addition prompted Mick to claim we could finish 12th. A ludicrous statement that looks more ridiculous with every soul-crushing defeat.
But it’s not just Mick’s fault – Moxey and Morgan fell into the same trap, believing the squad was good enough to kick-on after adding seeing one solitary player added to the ranks. The three Ms have surely never been more misguided.
Or economically guided? –
Ground development ,employment for Morgan’s building firm in times of recession being more important than our footballing status.
I cannot see another explanation for the lack of ‘care’ by the ‘Board’ for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
If they cared they would sack MM instantaneously.
Feeling a little better after watching the highlights. We did play well enough to deserve a point and were robbed of a definite peno and probably a legitimate goal. But we gave ourselves a mountain to climb yet again, our poor defence to blame. Nothing seems to have changed since last year despite 6 mill being splashed out at the back. I can’t help feeling we need Jody Craddock back in there. I said before the game we needed to win, and we did. We’re lucky there’s some poor sides below us at the moment in Sunderland, Albion and Wigan plus others. Needs sorting sharpish.
I agree bring Craddock back for Johnson!!!
Lets be honest we battered them yesterday, their keeper made 4 saves before they scored on 17 mins, so we started well
Just goes to show how poor the defence has been in recent games if fans are calling for Craddock to start.
Hammill and Guedioura – they need recognition and a chance for sure!
I’m hoping for at least a draw at West Brom because I’m not too sure I can take 5 defeats in a row, especially to them…
Should add a word for Hammill. What a delicious cross for Fletcher’s goal, and also set up the one those out. It’s a difficult conumdrum. I think Hammill and Jarvis should both be in the side on opposite flanks but Hunt is exactly the type of player needed for Albion away.
How about Hunt in the middle alongside O’Hara and Guedioura. Always thought Hunts work rate and willingness to tackle were more suited to centre mid and I can’t imagine us losing the midfield battle with those three…
For Albion I’d bring in Hammil for Jarvis & Milijas for O’Hara (who’s been poor all season)
Didn’t like the fans reaction to the Henry substitution, hopefully it was aimed at McCarthy & not the player as he had a decent game again yesterday.
I also think Johnson needs to have a good look at himself, he is a joke as captain, his body lanuage is awful & he just looks like he doesn’t want to know, he was at fault for both goals yesterday on the back of being at fault for the first goals against Liverpool & Spurs.
So the 2 new boys have made a difference, yep they’ve made us worse than we were in those positions last year.
Stearman at RB was poor especially 1st half & 2nd half he kept drifting inside, why McCarthy didn’t stick with Doherty only he will know, round pegs in round holes springs to mind.
Henry cost us the second goal; offered nothing in attack.
We can’t afford to carry this type of player in the prem.
Let’s hope that he’s out for West Brom.
Henry cost us the second goal???
He won 3 or 4 tackles before the ball was lost, nonsense mate, have a closer look, what about hunt, & especially Johnson & Stearman who all let the the lad through, who, in the end scored easily.
As for offering nthing in attack, when we play 442, with 2 wingers you really do need at least 1 ‘sitting’ midfielder, if not 2, that’s his job, if you dont realise that, you dont understand what you are watching.
I’ve been to the last 4 games & the lad as played well in all of them, apart from QPR, where he was isolated, & I aint blind either, if the lad has a stinker then I’ll say it as I think, but I do think he his being made a scapegoat, trust me we need Karl Henry against the steptoes.
He’d be my first name on the teamsheet. carrying him?? I dont think so!!!!
it was his woeful pass that gave the ball to Newcastle. He did not make 3 or 4 tackles in the whole game, people really are deluded if they see Henry as a ball winner. He is a passenger.
The number of fans around me – myself included – calling for Henry to be taken off shows we’re done with him. I hope the cheers that came when he was subbed shows Mick not to start him. I’d like to see O’Hara, Jarvis, Hammill and Guedioura start in midfield at WB…
Can’t believe some of you are wanting Craddock back!!
He’s 85!
No, get Hammill, Milijas and Adelene in mid field, put Doherty at right back, Stearman in the center with Johnson, get a left back, any left back, except the 2 who have “played” there this season, and away we go, off into the wild blue yonder!!!!
Oh, and Fuck Off McCarthy as well.
Still no Clappy Happys today!!!
No one thought we were unlucky?
Nobody saying we deserved to win?
You are finally coming to realize, that despite all the bollocks I spout, I do actually have a modicum of intelligence, and saw the McCarthy Out light well over 12 months ago.
Will someone, anyone, please acknowledge that I was right, just to give me some small bit of comfort over this dark dismall weekend?
Pretty please?
You’re right about one thing. You do spout a lot of bollocks.
Thank you, yet another fan!
Where’s the FOMM in this comment?
Your form is slipping Clive! 😛
I thought in places we were unlucky, and could say we deserved to win – we didn’t in the end due to poor defending, but regardless of that fact, we still earned a second goal and penalty. I thought the offence were OK for a fair part of the game – Tim Krul was on something crazy, considering the two goalmouth scrambles he managed to pull off saves in…
I agree things need to be changed, but it was an improvement on QPR, and the loss was not deserved.
I’m not sure Berra has really done much wrong this season yet…
Also, Ward was alright yesterday – even covering right back when Stears went missing again.
I would say we were unlucky and maybe deserved to win but I don’t think we should allow for excuses due to our piss poor defence. Calling for Craddock shows how desperate I am. He’s a calming influence, no nonsense.
you were and are right Clive
Funny how come the end of every season he seems to be wrong though
It’s the board who are wrong, keeping that useless prick in a job.
You miss the point as always Louie. If all you want for your club is survival by a goal scored 7 minutes from the end of the last game of the season, whilelosing at home to a really poor team again, then McCarthy is the man for you. If, however, you would like your team to establish themselves such as Newcastle, Stoke etc., then perhaps we need a change.
I for one know that Mad Mick will probably keep us in the league, but only just. But I believe that is the limit of his ability. I really don’t believe he has what it takes to get us to the next level, I really don’t. And that is why Clive is right and that is why Clive takes a lot of sense, because he wants more for this great club than relegation fodder!
Great blog Ben.
Have often had a wry smile when reeling out the old cliche about loving my wife but, like Mick, she drives me mad sometimes.
Not any more though! Its gone too far now for me. There’s nothing to smile about any more. Its the big ‘D’ as far as I’m concerned.
Things need shaking up and only a new manager will bring the freash thinking we so desperately need.
Mick’s learned nothing from last season. His stubborn insistence on persevering with, for the most part, the championship squad of four years ago came within 3 minutes of costing us relegation last season. How much closer will it be this time round?
That in itself is like a boxer being forced to fight with one hand tied nehind his back but wait, there’s more!
Mind boggling selection decisions continue to defy logic as though he’s deliberately sticking up 2 fingers in the direction of us nuggets.
How on earth did Kightly get starts after a 2 year lay off ahead of Hammill?
How was Edwrds a better option than Guedioura last week and then not even on the bench yesterday?
And why oh why does Mick persisit with such lunatic public utterances like ‘Superman’ Ward or Henry (after his worst display ever against QPR) being ‘in the form of his life’??
But if Mick seems oblivious to reality is it any wonder when the obscenity that is Moxey and the deluded board set such examples?
Our beloved Jez, who has turned screwing the fans into an art form (Carling Cup, temporary seating prices for e.g.) doesnt want to rub the double-dip recession trashed fans’ noses in it so he spends the loose change from his bonus on a Mercedes cabrio. IN A GROTESQUE ATTEMPT TO KEEP FAITH WITH THE FAITHFUL! He wouldnt be seen dead in a Merc! Christ, he was driving a Ferrari when we were still in the Championship! But by denying his natural prediliction for supercar status, he seriously believes he’s showing solidarity with all of us! Yeah, right ‘cos we all drive brand new Mercs dont we? They’re the Sinclair C5 for Prem fans arent they?
Come on Jez, £2.1 MILLION bonus in 2003 so what was it in 2011???
And what faith are we supposed to have in a board that signed off the £16m redevelopment of the North Bank three days before ‘Survival Sunday’? Directors, Morgan and Moxey can puff their chests out and boast about that as showing ‘commitment’. Sheer bloody stupidity more like! Who, other than Nick Leeson would make such a commitment 3 days before knowing whether £40m 2011/2012 income would be flushed down the loos of Whiteheart Lane??? 3 FUC*ING MINUTES YOU TOSSERS AND YOU’VE LEARNED NOTHING!
As the new stand reaches to the skies the fortunes of our team fall in equal and direct proportion.
If Stan Cullis is going to avoid spending eternity outside the biggest white elephant in history, Morgan – you need to do something!
Mark Hughes and Martin O’Neil are looking for jobs. For fuc*s sake, get one of them to replace the Merlin who’s had his time. Even J K Rowling knew when the magic had gone!
Hey, we’re not nuggets; we’re numpties!
Otherwise, that’s poetry there Scooped.
Well wrote scooped, I only wished Morgan took the time to read some of of our posts to see how pissed off we really are with McIdiot and the rest of the
shite we have to put up with. The game was over at halftime in my veiw 2 goals down again through mistakes again Hennessey for the first,Henry& johnson for the second.also the strikers must take some of the blame for the
mischances they had in the first half,if we had took just one of them it might
of been a bit different to the final outcome.the ref mark Halsey is a joke
its about time the FA started to punish the officials for the diabolical decisions
i,e the stonewall peno he did’nt give, as said in earlier post its about time we got in the face of the officials a bit more, then we may get a few more decisions our way.that said McIdiot must take most of the blame for the team he put out same old same old faces hopefully it will be his undoing sooner than later i hope please.there’s plenty of managers out there who’d love his job.
Good blog!
Feel that Henry should go, and that both Hunt and Ohara need to pull their socks up quick!. Have been calling for both Hamill and Guedioura to play from the start for a while now, but knowing MM’s stubborness he wil probably not play them because of other peope’s thoughts. i.e it’s my team and i’ll do it my way! very misguided.
No doubt you waited till you calmed down before writing the Post Ben….
My thoughts
We are useless and bereft of creativity.
Edwards on the subs bench not Milijas? –
Bit like Kightly before Hammill.
We played much better with Guedioura and Hammill, but McCarthy will revert to Henry and Hunt ,(or Jarvis), against WBA.
Why?
Because trying to prove what ‘he thinks is right’, is more important to McCarthy, than the team he manages – Wolves.
It has been proved time and time again.
There is no justification for him to remain, but the board continue to back him.
Yesterday was so predictable, it was almost heart breaking to watch for a Wolves supporter.
There must be some agenda we know nothing of, at ‘board’ level, that keeps him as manager, otherwise he would be sacked.
Robin
The reason why he will play Hunt & Henry away at West Brom, is because it will be a battle, as it is a local derby & so he should.
The other 2 players you have mentioned were great from the bench & if needed may have a similar effect if called up on.
Understand?????
I understand Grace and if he does we will lose.
Best performance of the season: 2-0 v Fulham, worst performance of the season 0-3 v QPR. Fulham 6-0 QPR. It’s a funny old game..
After the Joey Barton thing, that result is very satisfying! 😛
Would love to know what and how we would play like under o Neil .who he would rate and who he thinks are pony.must admit tho had sone fans behind me yesterday and it was embarrassing listening how much they know about the game.deluded fickle and fuck off to sandwell town springs to mind.we are wolves and I’ll always be a wolf cause I fuckin carry them in my heart every minute off life till the day I die.come on me babbies
Anyone else notice there was some fit birds At the game yesterday ? Was sober as well .
FUCK OFF Stano .. you and your ilk are the wankers who keeps fuckin Mcmuppet in a job.. 4 in a row..and nothing looks like changing.. he wa’ even gunna start gedioura and Hammil after succsessive surpeme performances… so Fuck off, you know nothiing …
WE ARE WOLVES, YOU ARE DELUDING YOURSELF….
Calm fella, calm 😉
While we played much better yesterday, a lack of genuine quality meant we couldn`t match an inspired goalkeeper and a dodgy ref. However we lost, and have scored one goal and let in seven in the last 3 home matches. This is hardly the stuff to fill Molyneux now, let alone the new stadium, the lack of inveswtment on the pitch is now coming bach to haunt us after only 7 games,
Its so obvious we are`nt caoable of playing 442, and Newcastle showed why in the premiership you need players with a mix of pace, mobility and athleticism. We couldn`t keep up with them, and the defence can`t cope with players with genuine pace running at them.
On the evidence of saturday Hunt, and O`Hara struggle against mobile pacey players in a 442, we can`t afford to keep on leaking goals either, its time for MM to sort this out, after all we can`t be far off the bottom three after todays games. FOMM. Its not original but he` s gone as far as he can.
The best tonic needed for our team prior to the Black Country derby would be to sack McCarthy! TOMORROW MORNING!
It won’t happen though. I’m pretty sure about that!
If that stubborn twat starts the next game with anything like the same 11 that started yesterday then he surely must go. My only concern is that it maybe a little too late.
Lets hope that he opens his eyes and picks our best players, who are playing their best form an deserve to start.
The following players need to have a good look at themselves and sort their shit out….. Johnson, Henry, O’Hara, Jarvis.
Great blog. Nice one Ben. Wish MM was reading this. C’mon Mick sort it out – please!
A Few words as devil’s advocate:
Spurs, Liverpool and proabably newcastle (without injuries) are all looking like good bets for the top 6 and I think if asked most people (not wolves fans) to guess the result before those three games most would have gone for a wolves loss or a draw.
As for the QPR I agree with everyone it was a performance out of character for the team, no spirit or drive. But we shouldn’t forget it was Mick who has installed those qualities in the team and made it so we expect them every game. Certainly they weren’t in the team he inherited.
As for tactics everyone criticized Mick for playing 442 against QPR and sugested 451 he plays 451 against liverpool and still gets lamabasted after switching to 442.
Players: Hammil I can understand but who o you drop? Arguably Hunt is one of our most battling influences whilst an on form Jarvis (and he will hit top gear at some point this season) is our best attacking outlet.
Guedioura and Milijas I remain to be convinced by in a wolves shirt on their day two of most forward thinking players but an a bad day both are worse than useless with the ball and non existant without it. I’ve lost count of the number of times Guedioura simply runs into the opposition defender and loses the ball (yesterday included).
As for replacing MM I think some people have severe delusions of granduer if they think wolves will be able to tempt Martin O’neill or Mark Hughes. Both managers left established premiership clubs chasing european football. Wolves are still (lets face it) a top championship club attempting to establish themselves in the big time as a permenent fixture. However, the noises out of the club are sounding good especially the improvements to the youth infrastructure and training ground. We are definately in the long term heading in the right direction and not breaking the bank to do it. But for now we have to take the rough with the smooth there will be months like the last one but there will also will be the wins against the likes of United and Chelsea. I think the next two games will be much more of a test of where we are headed this season as I think both a****n and swansea will be scrapping in the lower half ot the table come the end of the season.
Newcastle looking like a “good bet for the top six”?????
What are you on???
And as for “delusions”, run this past me again – “there will also will be the wins against the likes of United and Chelsea”.
You what??? Were you sober when you posted this drivel?
So Mark Hughes wouldnt come to us eh? Are you seriously claiming Fulham are a bigger club than Wolves???
GAMM
Scooped, couldn’t agree with you more.
Seems Sheffield Wolf sees us as :
“Wolves are still (lets face it) a top championship club”.
It is a racing certainty, if nothing is changed, that we will be able to see if we are a “top championship club”, next season.
If we continue to play as we have in the last four matches, despite a couple of ‘good’ 2nd half performances, we will be bottom soon.
To quote Clive FOMM but he won’t, he’s bigger than the club!
In answer to your comments.
Newcastle are unbeaten and third in the league, with a bit of luck they will finish in the top six (If you look at my message I did put probably). I’d have a bet on them being at least top 10 by the end of the season. In my opinion although they lost some good players they have still got some quality (Demba Ba is a lot better than Carroll).
In response to delusions; Wolves have done fairly well at picking up points against the big sides in the past two seasons. I wouldn’t bet against us doing the same this season as well.
As for Fulham; when Mark Hughes joined them they had a place in Europe and just played in the Europa league final so yes they are a bigger and more (recently) successful club for now. But as I said before; behind the scenes Wolves are heading in the right direction with the improvements to the academy and training facilities. Our aim for this season and probably the next should be consolidation.
Sheffieldwolf,Don’t know how often you frequent the wolves games mate, but
if we keep playing the shite we have been, there’s only one place to go thats the championshit or what ever they call it these days..
With McIdiot at the chuffing helm thats where we will end up i fear..You can’t
defend him even though he’s a fellow yorkie he’s got to go.he’s had long enough.
Ive watched all the games this season. And watched the wolves since about 1994.
The last 4 games have been frustrating:
Spurs played ok but lost due to the better quality strikers they had
QPR We were terrible, first game in a while that we haven’t even looked up for, we played better at Stoke at the end of last season!
Liverpool better, defensive mistakes cost us against a good striker, but in the end probably could have nicked a point.
Newcastle, defensive lapses cost us in the first half but with a bit of luck we could have been ahead before they scored, and then we were a victim of the two worst refereeing decisions I have seen in a while which denied us a more than deserved point and possibly a win if we’d scored the penalty and put Newcastle on the back foot.
So yeah the last few games have been frustrating, depressing even, but the season isn’t over after game 7 and we’ve got two games we can get points out of coming up. It wouldn’t look too bad a start to the season with 4 wins from nine 9 games.
As a concession to the FOMM brigade, my biggest worry same as last season is our inability to nick the odd draw here and there. I know we were robbed against Newcastle but we did have a habit last season of conceding early or late on. If we had picked up a few draws instead we would have finished comfortably above the relegation scrap.
Won the free tickets for this game courtesy of Thomas and this peerless blog. Great day out, thanks mate. These are my thoughts.
Ground was full, so many gold shirts. Spirits were high at the start. A positive, optimistic atmosphere in the glorious sunshine. A lively start where we could have gone in front had it not been for an inspired Krul in goal.
But soon the tide had turned. Quick incisive passing and movement from the away side against pedestrian, laboured football from the home team. Through balls and crosses at one both hopeful and hopeless. One team playing premiership football, one team not.
Our midfield outpaced, outplayed and outnumbered. It was only a matter of time. Both goals could have been avoided of course but they did reflect the quality of football.
Two very bad decisions, one from the ref, one from the twat with the hat deprived us goals which could have given us a point. But that would only have papered over the cracks.
Yes our second half performance was much better and yes Adlene and Hammill made a difference. But it smacked of lung breaking desperation, huge effort and commitment roared on by an equally desperate support.
Of the players on show, Hennessy and both strikers probably belong in this league. But how many others. Johnson looked worryingly disinterested and Hunt’s new haircut seems to have produced a transformation of biblical proportions.Less Samson, more Delilah.
My honest opinion is, as someone who has loved this club for 50 years, our effort and spirit is great but that’s not enough in the Premier league. Top class players on big wages is what it takes and if we continue to delude ourselves otherwise it’s back to the Championship.
Lucky I didn’t win the tickets as my girlfriend bought me a couple tickets for my birthday as a surprise!
Had a great day out, agree with most comments on here. I also believe the addition of Guedioura improved O’Hara’s game. Will be interesting to see what team Mick plays against WBA, surely Hammil and Gued have to start.
She said noooooooooo Titas, she said nooooo, oooohhhhhhh Titas she said noooo!
Having calmed down (slightly) from the weekend I can only but agree with you Martin, and never being won over by Mccarthy, might I add, that a manager with half a clue also be added to the wishlist.
This Nugget has seen enough.
The sad thing Ad is i’m starting not to get upset by results. I don’t expect us to win any more. As i watched the away section bouncing in wild celebration, i turned to the guy in the next seat, in his new season home shirt and asked him if he was a season ticket holder. With the expresssion of someone who’s had a recent bereavement, he replied glumly, ‘Yeah’. It’s time these diehard supporters got something to cheer.
And as far as McCarthy and Connor are concerned, you wonder if the majority of our squad could make a fist of it under different direction.
The board have declared that Mick McCarthy will be there long-term (à la Curbishley at Charlton). So don’t go expecting his sacking any day soon. Back to 4-5-1 for the majority of the games I think – get some points and consolidate pre-January, then look for some quality additions to the squad.
Pray tell us where these mythical points will come from?
2 goals in five games.
4 defeats on the bounce.
A disinterested team.
A useless. clueless manager.
A money grabbing owner, fat controller and board.
All three promoted teams above us.
Consolidate?
If you believe that, then I have a bunch of Arizona ocean front property to sell you!
FOMM
If you read my post before ranting you would realise that the ONLY point I am making is that the board have declared that McCarthy will NOT be sacked. So stop kidding yourself that its going to happen because we have lost 4 on the bounce etc etc – thats just wishful thinking on your part. And I would never buy anything from anybody called ‘Clive’…
A vacancy has arisen at Notts Forest. A club with a history and tradition maybe bigger than wolves, desparate for a manager who can drag them out of the division from hell. MM should apply – its a job he`s done with us of course, and its right up his street.
Watching Swansea and Norwich play under the guidance of bright young managers, whose team are full of pacey, athletic players, leads me to worry how our defence will copw with these promoted sides, one having alreday beaten us 3-0 at home.
For me MM is a dinasaur, he`s had plenty of time to find the right kind of players, and the tactics needed to prosper in the premiership. So far this season we`ve flattered to deceive in the early games, and simply under his tenure we just aren`t good enough. We`ll have the best gound in the championship at this rate next season.
We really shouldn’t joke about that.
We should remember what happened last time we sacked a relatively successful Wolves manager (Dave Jones). We replaced him with an ex England manager with a point to prove, and we all know where that ended up.
Everyone who is currently saying FOMM should remember it could be and has been a lot worse!
Sheffield Wolf, are you MM’s Public Relations Officer?
Reality is that with him at the helm, we are heading for the championship.
Who do you support, our current board and manager, or Wolves?
How can anything be worse than certain relegation?
If Jones had been backed as well financially as McDickidiot, he would probably have bought some really good players, kept us in the Prem, and we would now be celebrating his 10th or 12th anniversary with the club, and possibly playing in Europe.
But Moxey got his sticky fingers in the pie back then, it was nothing to do with bad management or tactics, Jones was hamstrung financially.
McDickwad has not been, and we are in a pile of shit because of his cock ups, player wise, tactics wise and arrogant pigheaded stubborness wise.
FOMM
When Dave Jones was fired by were near the bottom of the championship and when Hoddle left we were 7th.
I want MM out, I’ve had enough, if we lose to WBA then that’s it for me.
(1) The fact that the fans want Guedioura in and Henry out actually makes it less likely that McCarthy will do it – he’s that stubborn.
(2) Nobody within the club will choose to realise that the Henry cheering was because the guy has played every minute for virtually five years regardless of his performance. ie. was directed as much as Mick as the player. (club will ensure that debate is all about how Henry gives 100%, loyal servant blah blah blah).
(3) Guedioura. Oh Guedioura. He can tackle, pass, dribble and shoot and as such is a player of vast potential … but he occasionally tries a Cruyff turn in his own half so is destined to be treated with suspicion. A dangerous progressive who could corrupt our functional players with his anarchic ways.
(4) The fact that he made the substitions that many of the fans wanted and we subsequently dominated the game will not be dwelled on in the corridors of power… even though we had a week of smug remarks in the E&S after the defensive Villa substitutions secured a draw.
Careful mate. Jez will have you off that fans parliament quicker than he can eat a scotch egg
I was quite pleased with the game. Wolves were the better team for almost the entire game, we had 25 goal attempts where a lot of them easily could have gone in, so I really have no need to make a “things have to change”-speech.
Doyle was good, fletch good, jarvo good, hammil good, adlene good, ohara pretty good. Defense was rather sloppy but I feel Hennessey probably should have had control over the second goal, and newcastle didn’t have that many chances now did they. Henry going out was a dream come true, to everyone that’s been saying “we would fall apart defensively without him” – look at what actually happened, we got more dangerous.
When we kick off, it’s an attempt, of sorts.
When Hennessey boots it up the pitch, it’s an attempt.
It’s goals we need, not attempts, and until we can get some, we are doomed, captain Mannerin’, doomed!
FOMM
People were saying we’d fall apart without Henry? I thought he was the new scapegoat now! 😛
But still, I actually agree with Clive – loads of attempts are all well and good, but if you can’t convert them into goals (great goalie or otherwise) then the attempts come to nothing!
Well we have for a long time claimed that Henry was pointless and wanting Milijas to take his place, whereby everyone would exclaim that our defense would fall apart. Nowadays though he is just the scapegoat
Saturday’s performance was, even by the Wolves’ standards, one of the most catastrophically hapless I have ever seen…defending like absolute mugs for the first half and then spending the second contriving to miss great chances in increasingly exotic and bizarre fashion, notwithstanding the horrendous refereeing decisions. Has anyone else noticed that, seemingly regardless of what players are out on the pitch, Wolves have an apparently innate psychological bent towards comic self-destruction? Even when we win – remember Hennessey’s unbelievable chipped pass to Berra over the head of the onrushing striker that almost gifted an otherwise completely innocuous Fulham team a goal back? And has anyone wondered if the attitude of the fans, or at least a fair chunk of them, might have anything to do with this. When we get behind the team (last half hour on Saturday), we’re like a force of nature, but it seems like we always need (at least) one mug to take out our frustrations on…Naylor, Keogh, Elliot, Frankowski, Collins. Now Wardy’s proven to everyone that he’s actually a perfectly servicable left-back we’ve moved on to poor old Henry, bless him, who has his limitations for sure, but has given every ounce of what he does have and more to the team since we signed him, for 100,000 (!). I used to think he wasn’t good enough for the Championship, let alone the Prem, but I’m happy to admit that he’s proved me wrong over the last 2 seasons. Having said that, he stank on Saturday, and I was overjoyed when McCarthy subbed him off for Guedioura (something else I thought I’d never see, which perhaps shows that MM isn’t quite as myopically stubborn as some would have it), and I’ll be disappointed if Guedioura’s not in the side for baggies. But how can it possibly help matters to try and destroy the self-esteem of one of our most relied-upon players? Is it really worth the brief moment of catharsis for the fan to cause long-term psychological damage to a man who, like it or not, is going to be in and around the team till the end of the season at least? So maybe while we’re setting the world to rights re the 3 Ms and the lads, we ought to look at ourselves a bit. This bloke sat a few seats down from me on Saturday, spent most of the game with his earphones in dicking about with his bloody iPhone, only taking a break to have a go at Henry, and to argue with the bloke in front who suggested he get behind the team. “I pay my money, I can do what I like,” he says. Well, mate, I hope you feel like you got your fucking 40 quids worth
Do you really think the team gets a rough ride by the fans?!
I happened to get a free ticket to see Man Utd on Tuesday and heard more abuse of the players (including guys like Rio Ferdinand!) than I’ve heard at Molineux this season!
Every club is the same – there’s fans who moan and fans who think the moaning is the source of the club’s problems. That’s true of every club from Barcelona to Exeter so let’s not beat ourselves up about it.
It’s a fair point. I guess maybe its more a general football fans thing than a Wolves thing, although I don’t think we should be taking Man Utd fans as our shining examples. But the way the fans treated Henry on Saturday kind of blew my mind. It’s one thing to boo the whole team, but to get after one guy like that, its just as counter-productive as one of Karl’s sideways passes.
I don’t get to the Mol as often as I would like, but my take on your comments is this:
Frustration at the plight we are in manifests itself not by screaming “McCarthy Out” from the kick off, but a build up of emotion boiling over when someone, who has not been living up to his manager’s billing, such as Ward or Henry, plays crap; a bad pass, or a missed tackle (usually leading to a goal) whence the crowd reach the point when they “fizz up and bost” and then scream and hurl abuse at said hapless player.
I think it is not so much directed at the particular player, (although if I were there it would be at Ward,) but at the manager, and not just for the one incident, but for two seasons of gradually building frustrations.
As to players getting psychologically damaged from crowd abuse, they need to get another line of work.
They get paid a fortune, yes even our lot, compared to most of us, so they can damn well put up with it. Of course, if they pulled their socks up and played better, there wouldn’t be a crowd abuse problem in the first place!!
FOMM.
A well considered reply. This is why I love wolves fans – everyone’s got a proper opinion instead of just swallowing the majority view or, worse, the bollocks peddled by the B&S. I completely take your point about the build up of frustration, because i feel it too! And I was cheering inside when Henry got subbed off – finally Mick sees sense! But I still felt gutted for the guy… The money things difficult. The disparity between the wages paid to the players and the poor mugs who are supposed to show up and cheer them on is disgusting. But, personally, I don’t think the size of my pay packet would make much difference to me if whenever I turned up to work everybody there started loudly reminding me how shit I was. I don’t think we’re obliged to sit there clapping and grinning through soiled pants while Mick and the boys put us through the ringer, but I don’t think it helps to attack individuals. Having said that, how else can fans show that they aren’t happy with the managers selections? Its not easy is it? You’re right tho, quickest way to solve things is for us to stuff the baggies in two weeks time, 4-0, guedioura hat-trick all set up by hammill, henry off the bench to score a 40 yard screamer in the last minute, everybody’s happy!
Could it be the fans were cheering not jeering McIdiot for making the substitution.?
Have Exeter got any fans?
I went there when we played ’em in the League Cup.
How many of you can say they were there on that night?
And, what did we do in Marlborough on the way back??!!
Thought that was asecret!
Well here we go again , lets pick a player , our player someone who as given everything to get us to the prem and boo him off the park. For years we seem to have to do this Wardy last year, keogh before you can go back to kennedy, denison and even on one occasion bully. Is this how we thank players who all at times had a big impact on our club.
I agree henry was poor on saturday so were about 8 others , he seems to have got the blame for the 2nd goal but o’hara origionaly gave the ball away as he did many times . but the point I want to make is the only way we get anywhere is when we are all together. Ive no problem with hammil or guadeiora comming in but please support the shirt and anyone who wears it because if we are not together the only way will go is down.
The blame rests with McIdiot he picks the team,he was the one who said
no one can take Henry’s shirt, that statement blew smoke up his own arse
me thinks,f..kin IDIOT.
Just been reading an interview with Peter Reid.
There’s another manager out of work.
The names of O Neil and Hughes have been bandied about.
What are the thoughts on Reid?
FOMM
Come on. This messageboard has been pretty wild over the past few days. But that takes the biscuit.
Peter Reid, best known for the time when Mark Viduka lold the Leeds squad “If you want to get relegated just do what this guy tells you…”
Peter Reid?! You are a clown!
I didn’t advocate him, for fuck’s sake, just asked for opinions!!!
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus, give me a break. The one time I don’t write something controversial or wind up, I get slagged off!!!!
My thoughts are that being a great footballer does not make you a great manager.
See Reid above, plus Billy Wright, Bryan Robson, Hoddle, etc etc etc.
Converserallywise, being a medicre player sometimes helps, see Ferguson et al.
And then you get the mediocre player who becomes a mediocre manager, see MM.
FOMM
We have lost 4 on the bounce. Spurs, expected, played ok. Liverpool, deserved something from the game. QPR – bloody awful. Newcaastle, deserved a draw and probably a win.
MM out brigade, where would we be without what hes achieved on a budget.
Judge him on the season, and remember, who else would have spent the money more wisely.
Morgan and Moxeys wage structure and not splashing the cash for a decent defensive midfielder are more to blame, not Henry.
And which team beat Fulham and Blackburn convincingly, with no Hamill or Guediora to be seen.
Support the team, stop booing, and be a bit more realistic.
Agreed a dose of realism round here was what was needed. Booing individual players has never and will never have a positive affect! I don’t believe any player goes out there to have a mare especially one that so obviously bleeds gold and black as Karl Henry. Yes he has been out of form recently but no more than O’hara, Jarvis and Johnson.
I think that confidence is still reeling form the defeat at QPR as it is with the fans and had we picked up a deserved point from the Liverpool or Newcastle games we would have bounced back. As it is the team have been beaten by lapses in concentration, poor luck (who knew Tim Krul was superman?) and appalling refereeing decisions.
Still I do agree with some of FOMM crowd on one point its the next two games that will indicate where were headed as both a****n and Swansea will be scrapping in the bottom half of the table come end of the season.
If we keep him for the season, we will be relgated, pure and simple.Too late for judgement then, he’s guilty now!!
FOMM
If you was manager clive who would you pick for starting 11 and who would you sell/buy
