This team has potential.
Midfielders not afraid to get on the ball, defenders who were keen to find said midfielders with simple passes that allowed them to play, and pacy wingers making smart runs.
Nuno’s building from the back looks like it could bear fruit, with one or two targeted additions still needed.
Granted it was an unfit and one-paced Leicester City side, but there were still some big names on show and it was a useful test. Our passing was a joy to behold at times, and crucially we now have the players capable of playing that way.
Three things stood out for me watching yesterday’s game:
1.) Central midfield. We all knew Neves was a class act, but some of the passes were fantastic. The ball out to Barry Douglas (who also gave a very accomplished performance) was always on, and he was ably assisted by a confident Romain Saiss. Jack Price came in and showed flashes, even if it is hard to join a game that late on.
2.) Connor Coady. He looked revitalised at centre back. Without the burden of having to mark forwards, leaving that to Miranda and Boly, he read the game excellently and organised things nicely. He uses his midfield nouse to play simple passes, and was a pivotal part of the back 3. His goal line clearance from Jamie Vardy typified his attitude, even if it was a poor attempt from the England man.
3.) Forwards. I would not be happy if we didn’t sign a forward this summer. We are in dire need of one to act as a focal point, especially with doubts over Nouha Dicko’s fitness. The front three yesterday combined nicely, but Bright Enobakhare’s wastefulness suggests he still needs to develop. You got the feeling that the front three yesterday were always looking for the final ball rather than a shot. If this morning’s rumours of a homecoming for Andre Gray (a Wolverhampton lad and Jorge Mendes client) are true, this would be a most welcome addition to the squad.
Cavaleiro’s goal was a great strike worthy of winning any game, but we can’t rely on screamers every week.
There was, however, an air of optimism around Molineux yesterday, albeit of the cautious variety. If we can somehow add a clinical edge to the team, there is reason to be confident.
Roll on Middlesbrough next week.

An air of optimism indeed.
Well said Chris, I haven’t seen such long accurate crossfield passes since Waggy was plying his trade all those years ago.
And Coady is a revelation in his new position.
A near complete performance.
Everyone seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet and it’s “All things bright and beautiful” at the moment.
The jigsaw seems to be coming together nicely but we’re still that one, important, piece short.
If we get the striker we need it will be ‘Roll on Middlesborough’ next week.
And, hopefully, ‘Roll OVER Middlesborough’ next week!
Welcome to Leonardo Bonatini, our new Brazilian striker, which scored 17 goals in 33 matches for Estoril in the Portuguese primeira liga 2015/16
One of the hidden gems in the Football manager game
http://cdn2.footballmanagerstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/L%C3%A9o-Bonatini-Overview_-Profile.png
Andre Gray? Hope not. I don’t want a homophobic racist representing my football club.
Is he really? I didn’t know that.
the tweets you’re referring to are from 2012 or something when Gray was probably still at school (I don’t know how old he is now so making an educated guess). Don’t you think he deserves a second chance?
Gray u having a laugh I would have him straight in quality forward who would bag 25 league goals if kept fit no problem
We need goal mate and he scores them
A great performance which must give us all hope for success in the coming season.
Yes, we MUST get a quality striker to complete our make-over, but how good it is to have a coach who understands that every winning side is based on strength at the back, with genuine quality in midfield. Neves and Jota are rightly lauded for their huge ability and respective contributions, but I would point to the importance of at last finding an outstanding left wing back. Douglas looks dangerous and skilled going forward, but his defensive qualities are very evident. A key addition to our side.
Finally, we have addressed the area where for so long we have been seriously lacking.
A creative midfielder with a four lettered name, ending in a vowel.
The short, sharp passing moves in the middle of the park were brill and left the Leicester players scratching their collective heads for an answer.
If we can maintain this standard, and add a reliable, fit prone striker, the season could prove more successful than we could possibly dream a couple of years ago.
On the positive side, the fans seemed to be appreciative of the new style.
Unlike Mick’s teams of yore, this team will transition well into the Premier League, once we get there.
We’ve played Premier League teams four times in the last year and won three of them. Quite a stat’ that is.
Agree Tim graft is all well and good but add skill and we’re on to a winner.
I was listening on radio Leicester and a certain Mr Matt Elliot continually praised conor Coady even commenting that his surprise he was a midfielder previously.
Wasn’t there but delighted that we finally seem to have a team that plays football. The functional dross of the last few seasons is no more. I can sense something stirring nicely at the Golden Palace. Modern and progressive both on and off the pitch. I will be interested to see where we are after ten games. 16 to 20 points would represent an encouraging start. Roll on next Saturday. Nice to see my seat again after 90 long days!
All I have to say about Conor Coady is square pegs and round holes.
I don’t quite understand.
Are you saying he IS a square peg in a round hole or WAS one?
He seems to me to fit his current hole pretty well.
Sounds a bit rude but I think you know where I’m coming from.
Ooops! That sounds a bit rude too.
Couldn’t make the game yesterday, but I was encouraged to learn we played the ex prem champs off the field.I know it was a friendly but I bet they went away wondering how they got off so light.Rumours are rife with us sighing a Brazilian striker, sexy football down the mol I hope when we kick off against The Borough. Can’t wait to hop along.UTW.
Agree with your observations on the game yesterday, but do feel that Afobe would be the perfect addition. He’s pacy, skilful and intelligent enough a player to fit in perfectly with this new order. If he wants to come and if he’s committed.
TheDOOgooder, What I am saying, facetiously, is everyone seems to think that a player can only play the position he was assigned when he was 12 and is not flexible enough to be able to play other positions.
I have more than once stated that I disagree with that seemingly prevalent opinion.
This is an excellent example of someone who has found a position that he seems to be better suited to than the one he was assigned to when he played youth football.
Just like Red Kelly.
Thanks for clearing that up Tim.
I quite agree.
Watched the game albeit with Arabic commentary ‘who is ROMAN’?
For me the bargain buy of the season has to be Douglas…..what a steal at 1 mil. Finally a left back that fits the position. Really excited about the upcoming season plus being able to watch the games from abroad but I do feel there maybe a little bit of running before we are walking here, giving plenty of scope for the proverbial egg on the face.
The thing that worries me most is whilst playing against sides like Leicester and half a dozen from the Championship who come to play football I think we will more than hold our own. The issue lies with the teams who want to go the Shrewsbury route and kick ten colours out of the team. They will need to harden pretty quickly as a unit and this may be a real problem for the flare players.
Two more additions and we are done, Afobe and Gallagher will do for me….here’s to an optimistic one
You haven’t seen the Brazilian yet :=))) Can’t believe they’ll bring in two more strikers. Perhaps one more, then a wingback – I mean since there are only three available slots in the squadlist. It depends if Batth leaves of course. Refers to the interest from a host of championship clubs.
That’s two more plus the Brazilian 🙂 Then we have no worries in the injury department
Regarding your ‘egg on face’ comment.
Optimism is the very life blood of a Wolves fan Norsk. Without it, then it all becomes a bit pointless. After many years of Wolves ‘fannery’, I now realise that if you can’t have that fire of optimism before a ball is kicked in anger, then they’ll soon douse any lingering embers once the season starts. Sadly, it has always been thus.
Could it be different this time around? From what I saw on Saturday……..too bloody right it could. 🙂
All I can say about Conor Coady is the man that smokes the pipe can sing the songs !
Coady is testament to Nuno’s alchemical skills of turning base metal, into gold.
Congratulations to the England women on reaching the semi final. Total commitment and well deserved. I salute you.
With you on that one Cheesey.
A wholehearted performance and a well taken goal, but as Glenn Hoddle would have said:-
“For me, the French ‘keeper has gone down too soon”.
And there’s no answer to that!
I am not going to expand on that Doog. I do recall an interesting French film on video many years ago.Let’s leave it at that.
Who is good enough or not good enough i will have to leave to other bloggers and Nuno. For me all the balls are in the air (or maybe they are now on the deck). Drifted away last season with some other issues going on (no excuse but). Still trying to pick up the pace went on mobile site to buy ticket couldnt complete went back 2 days later sold out ! Gutted i wont be there or ambushing Matt at the station but loads to come i am sure.
How about Jodie Taylor in for one of the Wolves striker roles?
Up the girls (ohh ahh missus) against the dutch.
Take the corners off a square and it fits into a round hole -even so coady to me is a surprise starter give or take he can run a million miles a match and save a goal..
We are upping the standard which we must do re the PL and that to me Q..Bright.. Dicko price.. DB obviously..
The Brazilian striker looks good but I’m impressed that other than me Chester Wolf has the nerve to mention Afobe still..
I don’t know a time since I’ve written on here where there was a more obvious striker to have – it’s a no brainer he can even be made to come here with his favourite enticement- money..
I’ve harped on about building from the back which we’ve done ..other than Afobe backed here by howls of derision I have to join Brompton in seeking that forward now as if we are going to set this league alight we need a 20 goal scorer..and I agree we can’t rely on Cav continually striking a blinder of a goal..
Is Bonatini that player?
If not £15M please and sort one…
Our wages must be absolutely colossal ..
COYW and Middlesbrough looks a draw..
I think you’ll find I stuck his name in the Steve
Apologies yep your in the Afobe back club too then..
The most successful striker since Bully..
(And a great penalty taker)
I’m a fully paid up member of the ‘Bring Benik Back’ club as well Steve.
But I will be very surprised if it happens.
Mind you, I’ve been flabbergasted at what has happened over the last few months, so what do I know?
Lets hope we can get Andre Gray, think he will be our 20+ goals man, done it in the prem which I think is important, do not think going back to Afobe (injury prone now and not set the prem alight) would be the answer.
Nuno will have to speak to reporters on the game at some stage but if we keep on going as we are then I am quite happy for the team to continue to do the talking on the pitch !
Sky must be kicking themselves that they have not picked any of our early games for viewing.
Are the lads having Portugese/English lessons so they can understand each other and Nuno ? but whatever it seems to be working.
Thank you Fosun for all you are doing (thank you does not seem enough really), this should be the most exciting season ever to be a Wolves fan.
A very impressive display from a team that is barely recognisable from last season. Style of play, formation and half the team l didn’t even recognise during the warm up!
There have been great plaudits for Barry Douglas and Conor Coady and rightly so. I could never have imagined Coady as a centre back but he was brilliant in an almost faultless display. I would make him captain for the season as Batth and Edwards will find it difficult making the starting 11. Douglas had an outstanding first half and l agree is a bargain at 1 million, l was struggling to find any weaknesses in his game. At last we have a decent left (wing) back!
I must give a shout to Boly as well, he is a beast. Strong, committed, good in the air, can get a foot in, good positional sense. There won’t be many better centre backs in the Championship. Miranda had a steady game but did his job well. He certainly looked more comfortable than Batth or Bennett when they came on. Ryan Bennett seems an odd addition when we have Batth, not sure we need both, with Hause also waiting in the wings. Good decision to keep Kourtney though and send Iorfa on loan.
I wouldn’t get too carried away yet, but we have a better manager, a superior squad, a system that suits the players and we will see some exciting football. Ok l am getting a bit carried away but there is loads of potential here! Oh and yes Neves is pretty good too, although l thought Jota had a quietish game despite showing flashes of brilliance.
I will even eat humble pie over my criticism of Mr Mendes, without whom we would never see the likes of Neves, Boly, Jota, Costa, not to mention Santo!!
Afobe is an anagram of “I am a greedy little fucker who is not as good as I think I am.”
Our new manager appears to have a say in who he wants to bring in, and why would he want someone who couldn’t give a shit 18 months ago, and who doesnt seem to be able to command a regular starting place for that perennial powerhouse of the South Coast.
No, no, and fuck no.
Clive, loving your comment, eloquence personified. I too think he engineered the move and frankly has been shown not be good enough, so why would we want him back anyway. I’d prefer Sam Gallagher on loan given FFP rules and then see if we can buy him before next season.
I agree with others about optimism building before a ball has been kicked in anger over pre-season because we seem to have acquired quality where we were lacking and strength in depth should we suffer misfortune with injuries.
Lets see how long this positivity lasts but I’d take 20 points after 10 games as long as we’re building and improving as I think it will take some time for us to gel in the competition and the new players to understand what’s required.
Nice to see a picture of Carl Ikeme on the header of our page, all my best wishes and thoughts are with you Carl as are those of all other Wolves fans, in fact football fans in general. Your return to us and No 1 can’t come quickly enough.
What a fantastic squad we have now and of course football is definitely a squad game these days, particularly given the number of games in the championship. But out of curiosity if we bring a recognised striker and Costa into Saturday’s starting eleven who other than Bright should make way?
On a different point, I can’t help wondering if Danny will leave this summer. Personally I really appreciate his commitment and I would be interested to see him play under the guidance of Coady. But his opportunities will be limited and he needs to play. Sheff Wed seem to be keeping a place open for him. Do we need three centre backs as cover for three centre backs or in fairness should he go?
From Tim Nash on Twitter
“As for @BurnleyOfficial man Andre Gray, I haven’t heard of any interest from @Wolves. BUT I’m told there WILL be another in after Bonatini.”
It’s all coming together nicely.
I couldn’t make the Leicester game but I’m looking forward to the season opener on Saturday. All teams in the Championship start on the same footing but I share the general sense of optimism that this season could be special.
From what I see in the press, Leo Bonatini is close to completing a loan move; so that might resolve our need for a striker. I am in two minds over Adobe: I do feel that he was hard done by our management but that did not excuse his attitude in his last few games for Wolves. I was also looking for a midfield enforcer, but it may be that Coady has nabbed that position.
Onwards and upwards.
That Adobe is a real Flash Player Exiled. But Afobe is a whole different ball game.
Ha, that’s predictive text for you (just picking this up as my first day of retirement was taken up with clearing out my daughter’s flat at Lincoln Uni and then heading back home to Wales).
Wow. Retired man are you Exiled. Many congrats. It’s everything it’s cracked up to be.
More Tweets from Tim Nash
“To those asking what has changed after I tweeted 1 more signing after Jota, I don’t know at mo. But Nuno serious about transforming @Wolves”
Saturday got me back to being optimistic! That was quite a performance.
Most refreshing & quite unlike the usual hoof ball of last season.
Hope it’s the way of things to come as it’ll be a great season.
Some Siren voices in the quality press, so called, about the Mendes/Fosun link & the unlikeliness of a player of Neves’s quality playing for the humble Wanderers.
It’s, for them, disturbed the settled order of things. Strange that there should be disquiet about Neves going to Wolves rather than Chelsea, Liverpool or another of the top six.
Others will have views on this but is’nt it just a case of Fosun using all available resources to get their/our team into the Premiership? The rules have changed, you have to change with them or sink.
Hope the excellence of Saturday continues, because that standard of play every week will surely reap it’s rewards.
And Coady’s goal clearance from Vardy was unbelievable, it’s also great to see him shout & direct players in the box at set pieces. He’s clearly embraced Nuno’s ways, really looking forward to Middlesbo.
Just about how I see it Allen. Why should Manure-Chelski-Arse-etc fans have all the fun, just because they had all the fun last year….and the year before……and the year before that……etc..etc.
Streamed the match and thought we were quite good…Nuno clearly knows how he wants to play and has brought in the players to function in that system (and not just at this level).
If we can maintain that level of performance, which will in part depend on avoiding major injuries, then we should be there or thereabouts next May.
Been on a cruise round the Baltic for a few weeks, got back to Wolvo at 2-15 at the match for 2-55 no time to get a program so I didn’t know who half the team were. Brilliant display, we actually passed to our own players, and some of the through balls into space were superb, Leicester were at a loss as to how to handle us. Bodes well for the new season, and for all the Coady haters give the lad a chance, he was awesome. Good striker now and we are on our way to the premier.
To quote a line from all those seaside Punch and Judy shows of yesteryear…..
” That’s the way to do it”
While you are unemployed, Mr. Moxey ( Burton does NOT count as a job ) and your fellow muppet, Morgan, please take a look at what is happening at WV1.
A lot of money spent, agreed, but you have to speculate to accumulate.
But, that is not the only part of a football club.
Look at the pitch improvement, the renewed video screens, and most importantly, the genuine desire to include the fans, without whom no club could survive.
You have the money, Morgan, and you could have done this without breaking sweat.
Unfortunately, you also had a money grabbing, greasy palmed, slimy pig of a fat controller, who would never have agreed to one percent of what has happened.
Unfortunately for you, but a big stroke of fortune for us.
Thank you for being an asset stripping scouse prick, without your greed we would never have met Fosun, Jeff and Nuno.
Obviously there is a long way to go, there are no guarantees of success, and I never thought I would ever say this, but thank you for helping underline our City’s motto……….
Out Of Darkness Cometh Light.
Now please continue to rot in the anonymity you so richly deserve.
Could you just run that by us again Clive …just to be more clear ..
Yes Twix. Not like Clive to pull his punches.
Agree Clive.
Haven’t been on this site for a while.
I began supporting Wolves in 1960 as a kid.
It is 2017 now and there have been plenty of changes in the world of Football since.
But for me, the team Fosun/Mendes/Nuno have assembled to play this Saturday is the best Wolves team in those 57 years.
Our ‘owners’ have one ambition automatic promotion this season.
We will be.
The club’s biggest problem is the fans.
We are all so used to being disappointed we almost want it, like it is part of the ‘Wolves psyche’.
Well, success is round the corner, whether we win Saturday or not.
Time to get used to it!
Hershey bar for Clive, he obviously doesn’t like M&M’s.
Houston,
We had a problem.
In the words of Clive of Hastings, “Not any fucking longer”.
In the words of Clive of India, give that man a curry.
How about Mario Balotelli?
He’s never scored less than one goal a season!
Clive spoke a lot of sense regarding Afobe – his attitude was disgusting and I watched as he strolled around whilst his agent manouvered a big money move to EPL. Sorry but once you disrespect the Old Gold shirt you don’t wear it again.
That’s a bit harsh on Clive Cheesy,
“His attitude was disgusting and I watched as he strolled around whilst his agent manouvered a big money move to the EPL”
He ain’t that bad,
Oh yes he is actually, he flew all the way over from Hastings to attend the Bloggers ball last year, only to P off during the night, not that we would bring it up again, Clive.
Lol
Just seen Leon Clarke in the KFC Wolverhampton. Is this the answer to our quest for a striker? Or is he just a fat f**king bustard?
Just in case anyone missed it, highlights of a bloody good game at last….
https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/07/31/wolves-1-leicester-0—match-highlights/
I think we already have the answer to our striking problem.
Wolves Women 10 – 1 Coventry Utd Ladies
Not bad after being 1-0 down.
And TWO hat-tricks.
Girls are go!!
Gray…….£20 million really…….I’m all for splashing the cash but……is he worth it……any thoughts pepz
Ummmm… A strange Blog these days where have all those Mendes Haters gone… Perhaps they will reappear if we don’t get off to a flyer…
Not me Nige. Fosun and Mendes are a dream come true whether or not we get off to a flier. If at first you don’t succeed (last season) try and try again.
Surely we can’t dick Ditcho.
I mean, ditch Dicko.
And don’t call me Shirley.
Actually it was Mendes doubters that drove me away!
Fair point, although nothing wrong with a healthy dose of scepticism when there’s so much mystery surrounding it all.
In previous posts questioning the changes, I also made the point that I hoped to be proved wrong.
I don’t think people were necessarily “hating” on Mendes, more trying to raise some legitimate points that we hope are answered with a successful season. This would show that fans’ concerns were completely unfounded.
So far, so good, but the real business starts on Saturday. As I tried to convey in this post, at least we have potential.
It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football really and truly is coming home……
40 + years of hurt, lies, anguish, scouser’s, portly pie munchers and jocks and now we’re big in Portugal & China too, but soon we’ll be biggin it up in the Prem.
Optimistic? Me? You feking bet I am!
Better get to The Stile earlier on Saturday and order two pints of Banks’s on entry as I’m worried it’ll be a big queue to get the second round in….. Pie man are you listening????????
On the Afobe front, I thought when he joined he was the best striker since Stevie the King, but I think once you’ve shit on your own garden, no one’s gonna let you go on the grass again.
Fect-orf-worstbrom
I think Afobe was sold a pup by poxy and moron.
A bag full of bullshit to get him to play and they hoped he could do it on his own and we all know thats not how it works.
I dont blame him for one second for bailing out on that pair of lying cheating arseholes.
Football careers can be very short in some cases and he knew he was on a sinking ship with those two in charge.
If he would come and shitemouth would let him, we should grab him with both hands .
He will get a bag full in this side in this division .. no doubt on that.
Could he cut it in the prem after that ? who knows.. who cares.. its now we need him.
Jeff .. go and get him and stop pissing about.
We will all forgive him after his tenth goal in four games.
But if he goes somewhere else jeff..??????
fowb
We now have a Brazilian Striker in our team, Bonatini signs on the dotted line.
OMG, this Mendes is such a feckin nuisance, 11 players he’s dumped on us and 3 in the U23’s.
No wonder the football was so shite Saturday.
Come on Fosun sort this feckin club out FFS.
I’m Lovin it…..
Sorry Nige, not a dig, honestly,
I truly am Lovin it
No Offence taken Stu… I’m with you all the way…
Mendes will come good, he has to..
Having him on board was always a master stroke… It takes time and money…
Roll on Saturday.
Here’s the interview with Leo Bonatini, very smart young guy, no bullshit, level headed, good command of English as with all the recent signings.
Key Words to note.
Ambience, Step by Step.
Typical Brazilian / Portuguese expression, I taught in Portugal for about 3 years and this is typical of them, shows me he likes what he sees at Wolves and ain’t gonna be gung ho, knows what he wants and willing to fight for it.
A balanced club now springs to mind.
https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2017/08/01/wolves-confirm-loan-deal-for-striker-leonardo-bonatini/
Andy Gray will partner him.
Andre Gray will partner Bonatini.
We do not need Dicko or Edwards.
Robin.
You could be right mate, just had a text from my mate he’s been told we’ve put a bid of £18.5 m in for him (Andre Gray)
Obviously there are others in for him, but if we’re starting at that price we’re up for it.
Hang on to yer feckin hat.
Would be a really good addition (although, only in today’s crazy transfer market is he worth that kind of money given how long he’s got left on his contract).
However, given that with the exception of Bennet – who I think will have been a Lambert signing – and the two ‘keepers, all our other signings have been from overseas, I’d be surprised, but very pleased, if we went domestic for a top striker.
Talking of which, given how fast and physical the league is, I do think we need a bit of domestic experience to the spine of the team (CM and upfront).
Dicko….
Thunder Clap Newman. Something in the Air.
Might even be, Bay City Rollers. Bye, Bye Baby, baby goodbye.
I would be disappointed if Dicko left. Having said that, I do have faith in Nuno and if he does not see Dicko having a future at Wolves so be it. Having been watching him on youtube banging the goals in, when he was fit, I would like to see him involved. There is a rumour going around that he has a broken toe, don’t know if that is true. If it is then we can expect another striker joining this week or before the window closes.
Yes, excellent news. I hope Leonardo has had something of a preseason as we need him to be up and running.
I’m salivating just thinking about Saturday: a rocking Molineux and a catch up at APV (pre and post match).
There’s been an U23’s game today, an unknown Danish defensive winger and another unknown winger were being trialled by Wolves, how many players can we play at one time?
The defender is 19 year old Danish right back Oskar Buur who’s a free agent
https://twitter.com/Wolves_Academy/status/891593065625944064
The winger/ striker is Toyosi Olusanya who was with @AFCWimbled
Thanks buddy, my mate just had a call about it, didn’t know who they were.
What’s Duckens Nazons status at the club? Do you think he’s close to being promoted to the first team squad? So far it’s obvious he’s progressed in his development as a player. Strong and clinical.
He started slowly but after finding his feet he did produce a few good moves and I saw a few good goals at Telford from him, he needs to get more games in my opinion, but look how quickly Conor Ronan has settled in.
Yes. Perhaps it can be explained by the fact that he has better players around him. Sellars said in a recent interview that they’ve never played better football than against Rangers. And it’s a bit exciting to follow the u-23 up and coming stars also. No wonder with the likes of Goncalves and Seedorf.
Was it Dave Wagstaffesson????
If theyr’e half as good as him theyr’e 19 times a player of Lambert’s standards.
I’m not sure about these rumours of Dicko leaving. I think Nuno rates him highly as one of our main striking options. I do too. Dicko is class. The only way to my mind that Dicko might be loaned or sold is if there are doubts over his injury record and prognosis.
Dances.
I can tell you that there is definitely a “Thunder Clap Newman” going on at Molineux / Compton, the place is on lock down for info, all the usual suspects are not answering any questions on Dicko. So something has happened and they are really scared to talk about it. My mate knows really (impotent) folk up there and he’s concerned.
Time will reveal all.
Something in the air, Stu? You’re normally very prescient in these things. I would be concerned too if it’s injury-related in Dicko’s case. That’s the worst case scenario, and in which event we will surely bring a replacement in.
On the other hand if we are going to sell or loan him, that suggests we have a big-name striker already coming in. In today’s inflated market, what’s a fit Dicko worth? If we got £3mil for Bod, Dicko must be worth at least double.
Call me a suspicious old fart, but I’m a suspicious old fart. I see Johnny Evans has a 2 match ban for messing with the enhancing stuff, (allegedly)
It’s out there, there’s new players coming in by the dozen (when we sign the new striker) maybe it’s been all too much for him after fighting back to the team and looking like he will sit on a bench.
Somethings gooin on we know that, veil of secrecy better than Maggie Thatcher’s cover up in the Falklands.
But that’s me just looking for an explanation, no info on it so don’t quote me on that one.
Life is certainly not boring at Molineux anymore. It was the last few seasons……
Surely we can’t dick Ditcho.
I mean, ditch Dicko.
And don’t call me Shirley.
I don’t know why this got posted where it did, so I’ve done it again.
I am like a kid counting down the sleeps ’til christmas, I cannot wait for Saturday. I was talking to one of my Forest supporting mates today and I said “this is the year” to which he replied “you talk a load of bo**ocks Wingy, you say that every year” ! Yes, I do but, I mean it this time. Looking forward to seeing some of you bloggers for my birthday weekend in Wolvo. Sue said “wouldn’t you rather go somewhere special for your birthday ?” I said “we are going somewhere special – WOLVERHAMPTON”. Thank god I was a fat kid. 🙂
Two things.
1. I was more than pleased that Conor Coady was given a pivotal role in the team cos he brings a bit of scally lift and vitality to the team. This pisses my mates off who have a downer on the guy but I reckon he was wasted last season and used as a stop-gap for the out-of-his-depth Lambert. I’d have the guy as captain, he reminds me of old crazy horse Hughes who was our last properly successful skipper.
2. What is it with a section of our Marty McFly fans, always calling for the return of this player or that one, not realising that we day win nuthin with these lads in the team. Let Numero uno Nuno do his job suckling on the sinister teat of Jorge (the goat of) Mendes’ portfolio. I gotta say, after Saturday I ay complaining.

I’ve nominated Captain Coady. I met him before the Fulham win in London. Great guy, he spent time talking to me and asked me why, as a Londoner, I supported Wolves. He’s a shrewd judge of football. I tipped Fulham to win the playoffs, he tipped Huddersfield. Remember, Fulham thrashed Huddersfield 4-0 at about this time. In my opinion he can make the transition to the PL. He’s been misused at Wolves, but no longer, Nuno sees his value in the right position.
Bang on mate! There’s something about this fella that gives me good vibes. I watched him arrive at Anfield when we nailed his mates and he signed autographs and had a chat with the fans and looked as cool as you like. Top bloke, I reckon.
Carragher was very disappointed when Liverpool let Coady go to Huddersfield. Very highly thought of.
Looking forward to actually being able to stream some of these games. Might even pay to watch some.
There’s a half hour behind the scenes documentary on wolves on sky sports after the friday night match (10.15) should be worth a watch.
Is it on Sky Sports News? I get that free but don’t subscribe to the other SS channels, paying for day passes when Wolves games are showing.
It’s on Sky Sports Football Exiled, and is being shown several times over that weekend.
Don’t think so Exiled, Sky have messed around with the channel numbers it’s on Sky Football 503 or 513 on my Virgin cable.
Ok thanks guys. Maybe I’ll catch it sometime.
A few random thoughts – not that I’m at all bored.
I am allowing myself a wry smile – I am honestly, I know you can’t see me but it’s definitely wry, perhaps bordering on the smug – because of Connor Coady.
From day one I had a soft spot for the lad – and no it’s not the old joke e.g. I’ve got a soft spot for Dave Edwards, it’s a swamp just off the M62 – and have always rated him.
Some people (no names, no pack drill) slated him, called him a donkey, couldn’t play etc etc.
Well blow me down with a warm flannel if all of a sudden young Mr Coady is now elevated to almost God-like status. Funny old world ain’t it?
Talking of a funny old world – it was me just now! – we are being touted as the Championship’s big spenders, Mr Money Bags, trying to buy our way to promotion, etc etc. Strange then that Saturday’s opponents Middlesboring have spent more on two strikers than we have spent on all eleven of our new signings put together.
Saw the squad numbers revealed this week – no numbers for Deslandes or Vinagre but Gibbs-White got one. Bit odd?
As a big fan of crosswords and quizzes – harrumph! don’t mention quizzes, I did once but …..etc – I was doing a general knowledge quiz in a national newspaper the other day. 6 really hard questions and I usually get 2 or 3 out of 6 and once got 4! I got this this one though ; Which second tier football club has just spent a record £15.8m on Ruben Neves? We are back to being famous again!
My prediction for the season;
1 WOLVES
2 Middlesboring
3 Aston Villa
4 Norwich
5 Derby
6 Hull
Relegated – Bolton, Burton and Sunderland
Are we gonna sign Andre Gray? Imagine it! Not so long ago we were beset by misery and austerity and were lucky to sign one or two new faces and then only if they were cheap or, better still, free. We were shopping in Poundland and Costcutters (Nathan Byrne? Remember him?) but now whilst not yet in the Harrods or Fortnum & Mason league we definitely frequent Waitrose and M&S. Great innit!
Can’t wait for Saturday. Can’t wait. Should I be this excited at my age? I am 10 years old again. We have Waggy, the Doog, Bailey, Knowles. We are going places and there is a buzz about everything Wolves. We are all over the papers. We ARE Wolves!

You’ve got my top three bang on. Villa a distant third but up through playoffs. As a founder member of the fictional Conor Coady fan club, glad to know of yet another fan.
And now we have a super computer
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wolves-finish-above-aston-villa-13423616.amp
I’d take 2nd spot but have to say 1st is so much sweeter.
They could mention what kind of data they used. If they fed the computer the players passing stats, tackling stats, shooting accuracy – everything – then it would be pretty interesting to follow.
If indeed it’s true we have bid £18.5 m for Andre Gray, love or hate the lad, that’s a statement to fans. He’s being touted by many clubs, but the fact we have started with a £18.5m bid excited my loins and that takes some doing these days. If we get him, I feel whatever baggage he carries will be best discarded by scoring goals, goals, goals. In previous seasons, our poor Dicko and Bod were starved of any meaningful supply and suffered badly. With a confident striker and the phenomenal supply I saw Saturday, I could feckin score.
Me, I’m 65 years old and excited, (don’t tell Jen de Wolf)
Me I’m looking forward to bigger crowds at Molineux. If we pull bigger crowds Lorry van pimple said, “he’ll get a safety licence for the temporary seating in the corner of the Sourrf Bank.
Money is no object, footy is looking improved a 1000 fold from Jackett and Lambert.
What’s not to like.
And there’s still 4 weeks left to offload even more of our deadwood, (yes believe it or not even after 10 departures, we do have some left)

It would be very wrong of me not to.
Stu,
that made me loff, however, I’ve studied the picture a bit further:
there is no photo-shop going on there! They are genuinely TWAT’s and WANKER’s.
interesting though, it’s taken at the same house (or same garden) which means if the father & son’s washing – stay with me for a minute….
so the father is the Sadwell sympathiser just look at the first pair of jeans – lardy wanka
then when the mother (who’s also his sister) pegged out the next lot of washing it confirms that the son (incidentally who’s also his father’s brother!) is the Assole Vile mongrel by default.
PS, according to google maps – the house is located in Cape Hill which is the border betwixt both set of delusional inbreds
PPS, just used live google earth and looks like the sister (who is also their aunt) washing is currently on the washing line and i think she’s a Blue Nose – no not a BCFC – just that shes been sniffing a smurf’s arse. and her washing spelt out “Steve Bruce as got a big fat ed”!
PPPS, Bedford, you think you’re bored!!! 🙂
Roll on Saturday…………………………………………………………………………….
RickRack, remember that white powder that you found in the plastic bags when you were busy rodding your blocked drains after the police raid on next door’s house?
Well, I think you should have handed it in to the peelers rather than snorting it up yer hooter.
Whatever you do, don’t eat the Brownie Cakes that you discovered stuffed into your wheelie bin the next morning.
You already have?
Thought so.
You already have?
“You already have?”
So good I asked it twice.
And now thrice.
Doog,
Why can’t I eat the brownies cakes from next door?
Bary Merry lives there and sometimes Baul Pollywood drops by.
I’m sure they make exceedingly good cakes, oh arr missus…..
Tried to post this a couple of days ago !
I’m useless at predicting results on a weekly basis so I’m going Straight to the end game
Top two wolves and boro , not sure which way around yet !

Rest. Don’t care
Oh feck it. Wolves champions
This year may be an up and down year with plenty of surprises.
Wolves may dominate games against top teams and flounder against lower table teams.
Some teams will have a style that stymies Wolves offense and maybe does well against our defense.
Some clubs will determine, after watching us play, how to neutralize Neves or others.
I feel, after watching the preseason games, that the style will be beautiful and skillful and, ultimately, we will be one of the better teams.
Let’s just hope we can get into the automatic promotion spots because anything can happen in the playoffs.
I tend to be of the persuasion that if you score more goals than the opposition you will win and if you don’t concede any goals you won’t lose.
But that’s just me.
So, in other words, you love sitting on the fence!!!
So in other words Houston, you like people sitting on fence’s that way you Americans can fleece em erecting new one’s. Sneaky, are you Chinese?.

Just had a very disappointing email from APV.
Even though I’d booked a table for 12 for dinner in the restaurant at 8pm on Saturday 25th November they have just informed me that they have subsequently booked out the WHOLE restaurant for a private function! Therefore my booking has been cancelled. Also means anyone staying at the hotel that night can’t eat there.
To say I am annoyed is an understatement. I am furious.
Needless to say I will be cancelling our room booking.
Will have to rearrange the trip for my good lady to meet you all – am thinking maybe 2 weeks later on Saturday 9th December when we play Sunderland (assuming that game doesn’t get moved for TV). Thing is am not sure I want to go to the APV now.
What do people think?
Thanks.
Wow … I’m speechless.
I’m going in there on Saturday so suggest before anyone cancels I seek some answers as to wtf are they playing at…
I think that would be a very good idea Twix.
It’s really not like Sat to do this. She has gone out of her way to accommodate us before. I’ve emailed APV to let them know that they are risking losing a LOT of future custom by doing this.
We’ll see what the response is.
I think it is disgraceful.
That place has had a lot of business, thanks initially to Mr. and Mrs Doogle, and to cancel a booking to accommodate a bigger one smacks of outright greed.
However, I am not surprised.
A hotel that insists on payment, in full, months before the room is booked for, is greedy.
I think the owner will quickly find out there are other hotels in town.
I will not be surprised if you struggle to get your money back, Bedders.
I thank you for the heads up, I will find alternative accommodation upon my next appearance in Wolvo.
Got any spare rooms, Cheesy??
Oh, and while we are on the subject of your boredom, Bedders, and Mrs. Bedders being quarter Portuguese, your task, if you choose to accept, is to inform us all of the Portuguese for “Come On You Wolves”, and of course ” Fuck Off w…b…
hiya guys,
living in Fordhouses (yes the stockbroker part of Wolvo) I don’t normally need to use a local hotel… honest wifey…. however, have had guests/clients/colleagues stay at the Novatel just off the ringroad, walking distance to city centre and back down the ring-road to the Mol, never had any complaints and reasonable pricing policy – £41 for a double on the 25th Nov Bedders if it helps…. plus 10% off room rates if you join as a member…
check out as below guys cus I’d be the same and say a great big FO to anyone that shit on the Ode Gold & Black… how very dare you…

I do believe the fat kid from Newark and the Gorgeousssss Sue stay at the Novotel when they attend games.
Feckin PVH, cheeky bathplugs, to all those meeting up there on Saturday before the Boro match, Jen de Wolf and I won’t be there, they can feck off and they can do without my £4-50 for a coffee. (As a Scot, that’s a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, I could get 4 coffees in McDonalds for that)
I shall insread, be in the Northbank bar for around 2pm paying almost real prices.
Just a thought for next year. Goodyear Pavillion on the Stafford road have 3 function rooms, and one private small room all serving good wholesome and plentiful food, they don’t charge £22 for a whole sea bass that suffered badly from anorexia or apple pie and custard in portions fit for a six week old baby. Wolves DSA Disabled Supporters Association use the place for our meetings and they are always very accommodating and Polite.
Just a thought, because they wouldn’t demand £10 deposit a head, 6 Months before a meal.
FOwb,av,bc and pvh
You forgot to add that the coffee is 50% froth and served in half size cups.
Those coffee prices have gnawed away at me for ages ….!!!
I reckon the true cost of the ACTUAL coffee in the cup is …..£15:00 …..
ONE BIG RIP OFF ……
Hi mate
Sue and I have stayed at The Novotel about 50 times now, and we will be there this Saturday. Never had a bad experience and the staff are lovely. Does your price include breakfast as if you book on the “Wolves Deal” for £65.00 it is included plus various other extras.
Hi newark,
the price of £41 was straight off the internet for Bedders date of 25th Nov – i didn’t take it through to checkout but don’t believe it included breakfast
I can do a mean Beans on Toast for everyone in the back of my van, as long as you don’t all want to eat together.
We’ll all nosh our beans round the campfire.
It’ll be just like that rather tasteful, and musical, eating scene in Blazing Saddles.
I know that APV is a bit pricey but I’ve always found them to be brilliant hosts and they usually go out of their way to go the extra mile. Plus, I never pay for my room booking until I check out.
But this is not acceptable.
I will have a word with Sat and tell her that she could be losing a lot of business in the long run. It won’t make any difference but it’ll make me feel better.
I don’t know Wolverhampton well enough to suggest an alternative venue which serves decent nosh in pleasant surroundings so I’ll leave it to others to come up with somewhere else if they can.
Bedders, as far as two weeks later is concerned, I’ll have to have a chinwag with the PMDG’er to see if we can make it. She’s Entertainments Officer and wears the red coat.
What a bummer!!!
Bedders,
Let me know if you can cancel as I believe that if you do your money is not refundable ?
Told you all it was shit there !!
Let’s get the biggest awning we can , attach it to the side of wolfstrokers bus ( chalky … sew some of your old tents together , and let’s pitch up near the north bank bar on a Friday afternoon till about Sunday ,
Who the fuck wants coffee ?
I can make coffee London. Not that I do very often.
This might interest some of you if you are totally stoked and waiting for the beginning of the season.
