Graham Taylor’s only full season in charge at Wolves was also my first as a season ticket holder.
I look back on that 94/95 campaign with great fondness, despite the fact it ended with crushing disappointment.
We won 15 of our 23 homes games that year and were only beaten on three occasions. Molineux was a fortress.
This victory under the same floodlights was eerily reminiscent of those happy times and as such it felt like a fitting tribute to the great man.
Villa fans might disagree of course but I thought their team contributed to what was a fast paced and open game of football.
Wolves were good value for the win, always looking the more incisive with their attacking play and always the more capable of creating chances.
The visitors enjoyed more of the ball but didn’t manage anything like a meaningful effort on target all evening.
Once Ross McCormack sent a header sailing over Carl Ikeme’s crossbar following a superb run from Jordan Amavi, Steve Bruce’s men failed to threaten.
They were already a goal down at that point after Joe Mason profited from Nouha Dicko’s forceful run and cross, which was just reward for a good spell of intricate football.
I suppose the only frustrating aspect from Paul Lambert’s perspective was that his team didn’t then go on to kill the game off with the opposition there for the taking.
Instead Villa got a foothold and started to exert a measure of control, but without the powerful Kodija or the tricky Ayew – both away on African Cup of Nations duty – they lacked the pace or guile to break through.
Even the introduction of Jack Grealish (a somewhat surprising omission from the starting lineup) couldn’t alter the pattern of play as Wolves coped with a degree of comfort.
Helder Costa was once again instrumental and opened up the their defence several times in another impressive outing.
Had Nouha Dicko had the presence of mind to offer a return pass when racing clear in the second half, the Portuguese winger would have had the tap in he so richly deserved.
Richard Stearman also enjoyed his finest performance in a long while with the specters of Mike Williamson and Kortney Hause no doubt at the forefront of his mind.
His aggression, desire and hunger to be first to every ball was characteristic of the whole team, which is testament to the job Paul Lambert is doing.
He said afterwards it was the hardest decision of his career leaving out Williamson, Lee Evans and a few other of the heroes from last weekend’s cup victory at Stoke.
I’m sure this precious triumph over his former club (played down unconvincingly in his post match summary) felt like more than adequate compensation.

Great win let’s keep it going.
Im over the moon yet can’t help but feel disappointed by Stearmans hairstyle, some one needs to sit him down and tell him he’s representing the greatest team in the world and that type of hair cut is simply not up to it.
I am white have dreadlocks and I’m 40yrs old. I stand by silly hair do’s on grown men as a luxury to be abused before it all falls out.
Great defense by the wolves with ikemes last punch soming it all up beautifully.
who cares about his hair cut its his football thats often been questionable, at least on Saturday evening he provided a clean cut polished performance and that is what matters, he can wear pigtails or sport a bob for all I care as long as we keep clean sheets till the end of the season.
Hear, hear, hair styles have no relevance to performance. I am 27 and have no hair, so enjoy being silly while you can!!
27?
27?
You lie like a dog.
You once told me you fought in The Falklands, so that puts you at least 87.
He has put the numbers the wrong way round – silly arse – and meant to say 72.
Okay, I was only 32 years off.
You lie too. I have NEVER been to the Falklands.
I agree that Richard Stearman, and his hair, was immense yesterday and DB was approaching his best as well.
Coady is turning into a very acceptable full back to boot. One particular tackle in the first half was a textbook example of pace, tracking the attacker and timing of the challenge.
Very Derek Parkin, I thought.
Doherty was pretty tasty as well.
Edwards ran several pairs of socks off to impressive effect before he nearly got his head caved in and I was impressed by Mason’s running and general movement.
Such a shame that Nuoah didn’t get on the score sheet but he linked well with Costa and looked sharp.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable performance, if slightly flawed by giving the ball away too easily on occasions.
And Big Dadi, when he came on looked back to his best.
The atmosphere at the ground was electric and the South Bank was in full cry for most of the time.
Lastly, but by no means leastly (?) is that a word? full marks to both sets of fans for the Graham Taylor tribute. Very moving.
If we could guarantee entertainment (and results) like that every week, we would all be very happy bloggers.
Wouldn’t we Amanda.
Magnifico! Great display from the team and a great tribute to Graham Taylor from both sets of fans.
Still, can we please kill these teams off instead of making me sweat it out for the last 10 mins? Thanks.
Great result and good performance. Even happier as Amanda’s motley crew got thrashed at Tottingham without even managing a shot on target or a corner kick all game.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again that it is interesting how we all watch the same thing but see something different. Grudgingly I will give my MoTM to Edwards for his no-stop running, tackling and closing down. Still can’t trap or control a ball to save his life but his energy was boundless and set the tempo for the rest.
I also thought Coady, Doherty, Costa and Dicko did well. Costa was heavily marked, presumably after he ripped Vile apart at their place, but still looked unplayable at times. Dicko frightened the life out of their defence with his pace and running though he needs a goal to help with his decision making as a couple of times he shot instead of passing or passed instead of shooting.
Disappointed by Price and Cavaleiro to be honest as the former gave the ball away too easily and the latter didn’t seem in the right mood which was a shame as I thought he would rip Alan Hutton to shreds. I also remain unconvinced by Mason. Yes I know he scored what turned out to be the winner but he looks a tad lazy for me and also tried things he can’t do too often.
My big concern – and yes I know we kept a clean sheet again – is Batth and to a lesser extent Stearman. Batth’s distribution is still woeful and he always looks like an accident waiting to happen to me. I wasn’t at Stoke but from I hear Williamson and Hause performed better – they also kept a clean sheet of course – and maybe without so many heart-in-mouth moments?
Ikeme? Was he playing?
Subs Enobakhare and Bodvarsson both looked lively and great additions to the side at the right time again – well done PL. Saville also came on but I still can’t see what he adds to the picture at all. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
Looking forward to Norwich – I see their top scorer Oliveira was red carded yesterday so that will help our cause next week – and hope we can turn over Moxey’s boys.
UTW!
Saville, in my ‘umble opinion, doesn’t really add anything at all, BUT he doesn’t take anything away either. He’s tidy enough with the ball, although doesn’t do anything special with it, runs, tackles, covers and basically does every job that he’s asked to do.
He’ll get shoved on, for example, to deal with a particular threat, or problem. Which means we’ll have a bit less chance of scoring, (depending on who he replaces) but a much bigger chance that we won’t concede.
He knows what he can and can’t do, seems to have no illusions of grandeur, and sticks to his job to the best of his abilities. An excellent team player and appears to be a useful asset for Lambert.
By the way, I think that Dangerous dave does all this too, but he gets the goals, has more creativity, understanding and vision, runs more and has greater desire. Which is why he gets the game time.
Course I could be wrong and Lambert just has a thing for his boyish, golden curls!
Agression, desire, hunger from Stearman?
Yes. I agree with that. I have no problem, once more, in stating he played his socks off.
All I want now is for our strikers to finish off games, we had the chances, they just weren’t taken.
Brilliant result.
Would of been nice that we were near the top six as this run with Norwich coming up doesn’t seem to of moved us off our stable location of the league..
That means we have to keep winning and winning to break the back of our shite position..
I’m perplexed at Williamson being left out I still wonder if it’s a cover up as in he’s carrying a knock or Lambert is just playing safe..
Very very Strange as he is so much better than DB and Co and he played so well against premier players at Stoke..
I just can’t see us rotating no 5s ..it’s either in or out stuff for me – like a goalie..
Unless PL hasn’t the bottle to sideline our Captain and I doubt that too..
Anyway..how long do we accept Dicko not scoring and how long is PLs patience? Do we buy ? It’s almost that we are ok all round with the kids coming through too..
January’s transfer period is possibly worthless..
So ..great 3 points ..I fancy us down in my neck of the woods this Saterday too – Deliahs mob are loosing it currently so they are there for the taking..
Lambert has made such a difference I wish he would of been with us at the beginning …..perhaps we should throw the towel in on the championship and go for the FA cup instead..
Wembley one way or the other then..
COYW
Four clean sheets from five games.
Sounds like life in a bad brothel.
(Amanda, help me out here)
Very valuable three points, made sweeter coz we havent been beaten by a West Midland rival this season.
I loffed my titties off early doors watching that pathetic shower from down the road, ” playing” at White Hart Lane!
No shots on target, no corners, and obviously no goals.
Priceless!
However they must have had a good game as they only let in four!
When you read this, BOG, you are a bastid.
I hope it snows, you get a hurricane and the galloping gut rot.
Stop telling us what a great time you are having.
Not fair.
I have to go to work in t shirt and shorts, not lounge around a pool drinking myself senseless.
Ya bastid!!
Seriously, enjoy the trip of a lifetime and take a gazzillion pictures.
I’m fuckin’ jealous!
And who give a toss about players hairstyles?
Did y’all see Pogba yesterday, with a yellow stripe and a yellow PP on his dumb bonce?
What a tosser!
Remember the permed, coiffed hairdos of the seventies and eighties?
They were all the fashion then so there is nothing wrong with new styles now.
If any player has his hair interfering with his vision, I’m sure PL will be out there with a pair of shears.
FOwb
Clive, They only let in 4 because their goalie was at his very best. If they had gone in at half time 5 down they could not have complained.
Now Harry Kane, remind you of anyone? Just knows where the goal is all the time.
Hi Clive
Sorry I will no longer carry on about being sprawled on a Santa Cruz beach here in sunny Mexico. The boat sales at 5pm which means another few minutes to sink the 7th bottle of Corona (no not the fizzy pop from the 60’s).
Just need to improve the tan on the back – front is cooking quite nicely thank you.
Oops sorry did not mean to mention it’s 33deg C this afternoon. Did I really say that?
Anyway onto football matters – hopefully the Liverpool fixture will be live on board as we will be at sea on 28th January en route across the Pacific to Hawaii. Oppps did I mention the cruise again – my profuse apologies.
Apparently it’s only 28deg in Honolulu- rather cool methinks. Actually we are paying a visit to Pearl Harbour which will be a rather somber occasion considering the events in 1941 which effectively brought the USA into the conflict.
Anyway to end on a brighter note it’s looking better and better at all things Molineux as we look to build on 3 successive clean sheets and notably victories over the cups and saucers and the chim chim – o – need from Aston.
Yours in retirement
BOG.
I kept reading the team sheet 1 hour before ko and thinking “WTF Walter” and mostly I was proven right.
Now I read the team sheet and say “WTF Paul” and he’s now proving me wrong.
Now we’ve lost the Mother in Law, Jen de Wolf is signed up for all the away matches again and she is blown away with the team improvement, attitude, performance, skill level, committment and all round feel good factor. Again the gates are creeping back up, the banter is amazing and the feel good factor on the terraces is back. Feck me, strangers are talking to each other again on the way out.
How it’s changed from a few weeks ago, even when we lost we were saying well the football is better.
We have no God given right to go to someone else’s ground and come away with 3 points, but it feels like we can again, it feels like that season in the 1st division all over again.
Reports tonight say Wolves have gone back with a second bid for Ben Marshall and expect to sort it soon, whispers also of an Utrecht Striker, if we can just tie down someone capable of sticking the casey in the onion sack, we’re gonna crack this football malarky.
Onwards and Upwards.
Bring back full terraces.
Great picture Stew, did you take it with your IPhone ??
Naw mate it was my new Eastman Kodak Box Brownie.
🙂
I heard they were good, my Dad told me my granddad used to have one lol
Though Stearman was MOM threw himself at everything, only niggle at end was the wolves lads need to get into the Icelandic clap better, Come on Ikeme you can raise both hands above your head (essentiall for any goalkeeper) and some of the other lads – no need to be shy !!!
Derby matches have the well-deserved reputation for being dour, drab affairs where two teams, both afraid to lose, strangle the very lives out of each other for 90 boring minutes. This was anything but.
Fast paced and open although lacking a little in clear cut chances, this was a most enjoyable soiree in the pub. Actually winning may have contributed to the enjoyment, of course.
Like many, I too was surprised at Williamsons omission, but perhaps he was being protected and brought back gently after so long on the sidelines.Batth and Stears performed admirably however and Carl rarely had to dirty his gloves.
Cavaleiro seemed to have an off night and it was no surprise when he was subbed. Nouha desperately needs a goal, and I’m sure when he gets it we’ll start to see the old Nouha once more. Everything else seems to be in order
We played, at times, some great, one touch, pass and move, exuberant footie which had we exiles cheering in the pub. Always a good sign.
Onward, with high hopes, to Norwich.
Just a few thoughts:
Not only do Wolves keep clean sheets Wolves do it with four different CBs which means I think that it is the system and attitude that have changed and you can see how much better communication is. Ikeme could have taken his wheelchair: Villa had one chance if you overlook DB ‘s tug on McCormack.
The midfield was full of energy going forward and did their bit defensively – Price I recall making a number of headed clearances.
Up front Dicko impresses and frustrates in equal measure. His run and pass led to the goal and surely once a goal comes his decision making will improve.
The substitutes looked well timed and competent.
Don’t see any real need to rush to buy. We ain’t going up and we ain’t going down. Better to wait for the summer and build on the steady progress PL has achieved.
Clever old tablet changed deckchair to wheelchair which I thought was quite good.
I remember the 94/95 season well
Went up there for a good few games
Exiting times splashed out on some decent players Daley Froggatt emblem De wolf Goodman got Stuart Walters and Deano on loan but sold my favourite cooky. Played wingers score more goals than u approach
Mem nearly leaving early v Sheffield utd to get two goals in stoppage time
Sheffield wed in the cup fantastic night
I have never forgive mcginley the bastard in the play offs still pisses me off and bully looked so gutted after the game.
Good three points on sat clean sheet onwards and upwards.
I just had to get the Icelandic Clap on film. Dicko (I think it was) was cavorting about like a flea on steroids.

And the Graham Taylor Tribute. Certainly brought a tear to my eye.

As a bit of an armchair supporter ( I’ve only been to one Wolves game this season) I always enjoy reading the blog, but isn’t it just great that as Wolves performances improve so the humour and entertainment on the blog goes into overdrive.
All the usual suspects were enormously entertaining this morning and I laughed my way through the boiled egg and soldiers.
Long may it continue (and thanks) Wolves and Bloggers.
Get yourself down to the A Park View Hotel for the last game of the season mate. You can meet all us motley crew there. be good to put a face to a name.
Things you would never have heard the likes of Dougan, Richards, Bailey, Wagstaffe etc say;
1 What do you mean I have to play 3 matches in 8 days! I can’t possibly do that, I’ll be far too tired and need a rest so please leave me out of the side for the next game.
2 Yes I know I just signed a contract for the next 3 years on big wages and you’ve just paid me a huge loyalty bonus as I’ve been here longer than 10 minutes but I have decided I don’t want to play for Wolves anymore and you can’t make me and if you try I’ll feign an injury.
Oh and before we get into any arguments with Amanda Hugandkiss before the Norwich game we have played them 28 times at their place in all competitions EVER with a record of W9, D9, L10. OK?
I wish Mr Stearman would give me some hair. Sadly the ONLY style left for me is grade 2 all over. So the record under PL is 15 points from 10 games. If repeated over a full season this might just scrape in to the play offs or fall just short. So credit to him for a clear improvement in results. A few quality additions in summer may improve the points ratio further thus ensuring at least a play off place. May be better. The feel good factor is back. As for the rest of this season I calculate 15 wins from 20 might scrape the play offs. A tall order because effectively you are looking at winning 4 of every 5 games. Realisticly, 5 or 6 more wins should ensure safety.
You should be so lucky mate, I would die for a grade 2.
Great win against a toothless Villa, despite all the money they’ve spent! Glad we never went near McCormack, totally over rated. Just seen Bamford is having a medical at Boro’, so surely Rhodes is on his way out this month!? I’d love it if we got him.
I thought Cavelierio was poor, but hes the kinda player you gotta keep playing cos he could be unplayable when he gets some confidence.
I think any run to the play-offs is too unlikely now, however if Lambert can mould us into a winning machine ready to go for the title next season then great. I think we should focus on the FA cup this season instead!
Lately I have been viewing PL’s lineups with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. On each occasion the players in gold and black have confounded my expectations, which says a lot for the team spirit at Molineux. My pride in the team extended to the way our fans (and Villa’s) honoured Graham Taylor.
The game was very good tv entertainment but my only concern was our failure to finish them off. I was on tenterhooks towards the end but luckily Villa had nothing going forward.
Totally agree about Pogba, Clive. Nice to see his hair matched the Liverpool strip. Perhaps he was enjoying a pre match hot dog and missed when it came to squirting the mustard!
Good to see the defence is generally becoming more solid as having to score 3 or more just to win a game clearly isn’t the way forward.
If it was such a tough decision to leave Evans out , then why not bring him on as sub instead of saville ( they both played well at stoke but Evans was the better of the two .
I think we still don’t have a ball winner who can create in our midfield .
Otherwise , brilliant upturn in our fortunes!
Great result. The growing positive influence of Mr Lambert is there for all to see.
However, I remain unconvinced at the Baatth Stearman central unit. Yes, they looked competent against the Villa, but there surely cannot be a less potent strike force in the Division than they had to face. Even then, they somehow managed to lose the powder puff McCormack to give him that one gift opportunity, which could well have cost us the win.
Williamson is by far the best central defender we have available. He is not only very solid and reliable, but he organizes and motivates those around him to great effect. His name would be my first one on the team sheet, with Hause alongside him. Their performance at Stoke, against quality Premiership class strikers was awesome to watch. In my opinion, the Baath Stearman combination is not in the same class.
Re DOOgodder’s observation on Cody and his similarity to Derek Parkin. I agree with the excellent tackle that prompted that comment. However, I well remember Parkin playing for Huddersfield a few weeks before he signed for us for £80000. He took down a sky high ball on his instep and the crowd purred knowing that he was the subject of a move. For me Parkin was a superbly balanced full back with great positional sense.
A superb and uncompromising tackler . If Cody is ever half as good as Parkin I will be delighted.
I agree with that mate.
Coady’s a way to go to before he’s in Squeak’s class, but it’s a decent start.
Really sad about Rachael.
Another link with Sir Jack gone.
She was a top lady, a tough cookie but a real sweetie – and a damn fine cricketer.
All sing together now
and it’s Heyhoe Wolverhampton ……
The defensive conundrum we all despair over may be getting addressed, lot’s of reports carrying the story today, that Wolves are looking at 22 year old Left Back Stephen Kingsley from Swansea as they (Swansea) are also looking at Martin Olsson. Also a second bid for Ben Marshall to Blackburn has allegedly been tabled and we’re supposed to be looking at a Utrecht striker. In my book that would tie up what PL said at the fans Parliament.
Perhaps he feels a push for playoffs is not too unrealistic.
We live Hope.
Hoping very much things improve like this under Lambert. First win I’ve seen for 3 months 3 weeks.
The difference is the commitment, team spirit & resilience. The players are also playing each & everyone to keep their place.
Very pleasing win that. Things do seem to be coming together & Lambert has identified his first teamers . Oninangue, Teixirea, Gladon & the majority of the baker’s dozen we bought or loaned at the start of the season don’t look like featuring again. Indeed youth takes precedence now it seems. That can only be a good thing. Am hopeful once more. Up the Wolves.
Well, we’ve played better and lost so can’t complain at keeping an expensive and (theoretically) talented Villa squad at bay for 90 minutes. Is our defense strong or are Villa toothless ? Probably a bit of both. Thought there was no stand-out performance, just a good all-round team effort. Having said that, I thought some of the decision-making by Doherty, Dicko and (to a lesser extent) Cavaleiro were strange to say the least.
Whilst not holding out any great hopes for the play-offs if we can carry on notching up clean sheets there is always a chance, however slim…
I know he’s not scoring, but we must keep Dicko. His work rate stretches defences & I am positive he’ll start bagging goals.
Whilst there are many encouraging signs, those describing play off chances as slim are certainly not exaggerating. The best team in the championship on points per game basis is currently Brighton with 54 from 25 I.e 2.16points per game. The team currently in the last play off place, Sheffield Wednesday, has 45 points from 26 games I.e 1.73 points per game. Assuming they maintain their current form, they will finish on 79 or 80 points. For us to get to 80 points, we need 48 points from 20 games I.e 2.4 points per game and only Chelsea have achieved that thus far this season including a record equalling succession of victories. So not impossible, but we would not just need championship title winning form we would need history making form for the remainder of the season. So COYW, who fancies making history? ?
Away from the game, wheres all the money gone from Fosun.
PL Said today on WM We can’t compete with Villa on buying power,OK they have spent an estimated 56 Mil on players this season,we a paltry 13 Mil on a couple of players + loans.
My question is are we going down the same road that we’ve just come from.??????.
just a thought.
John,
I don’t know how they work, but could it be down to the Financial Fairplay Rules (or whatever they are correctly called) and which Moxey always hid behind when it suited him and Morgan to say so?
Maybe afellow blogger could please explain how the rules work?
UTW!
I reckon if we get to the Prem Fosun will splash the cash. No point now cos we will probably be in Championship in August. It’s a mess at the minute. Good intensions last summer just misguided.
Cheese, it’s time to put my heart on that bloody sleeve again. We are no where near getting promoted. I don’t need to highlight any one or any single thing. All but a few of my mates from the old days are on the EPL bandwagon with the teams they support and follow, I just want my bragging rights back for a few seasons but, in all honesty I can’t work out when that will be.
There’s always one. Somebody who comes along with a great big bowl of freezing cold ice water and tips it down the front of your strides…
In this instance, it’s me.
Now I know we won, and I’m just as ecstatic about it as you lot, believe me! We never beat the villa, so to nail ’em was fantastic. But don’t let’s get too carried away here. They had no strikers on the field unless you’re counting Pinky and Perky (should that be Porky and Porky) who look like they are first in line for the buffet every day at Bodymoor Heath, so Dan and Rich had a day off from what I saw. Then there was the passing,.if that’s what you could call it, admittedly from both sides, but it was bloody dreadful. I dunno, maybe I’m expecting too much?
Then there’re the forwards. I thought Joe had a great start, scored an excellent goal but faded. As for Dikho, he tries hard but is starting to look desperate and that concerns me. We need somebody who can trouble the opposition goalies and fast. I mean NOW! The two we have can run and battle all day but it’s a ruthless business, this, and these guys either need to start hitting that area between the posts or find somewhere else to have a run about. Maybe we need to look at who trains the forwards?
Midfield: if anybody needs to see what ‘headless chicken’ Dave Edwards brings to the team, just cast your mind back to the difference between when he was there and when he was was gargling Nurofen in the dressing room. To a great extent we lost the middle of the park, I reckon it’s his contribution that glues the middle and keeps it together. I know he’s got a 1930’s coal miner’s hair-cut but we struggle without him.
Aside from that bucket of cold sick, it was a fantastic win, I just don’t want everybody getting too carried away is all. For what it’s worth I’d still have picked Williamson ahead of the other defenders. It worked this time but against a quality 9 and 10…I’m not so sure.
Luckily, Norwich are on a bit of a slide so I reckon we’ll do them n’all, even if it’s just to ruin Jez and that fat dancing twat’s night, but like I say, we can’t get too carried away, we’re still closer to the bottom than the top and as the representative from Sutton Coldfield above has worked out on his Christmas abacus, we have to play like demons to get anywhere near the top this season. In other words, it’s worth a tenner innit?!
Anyway, Sorry for being a bit of a misery, normal service will resume by next post.!
UTW
You’ll enjoy the games so much more Larry, if you invest in a nice pair of Gold-tinted specs like mine. Worth every penny.
Just watched Wolves U23’s give Blackburn a proppa spanking 3-0 at Telford. Morgan Gibbs – White and Sylvian Deslandes were epic and Deslandes got the first goal. Donovan Wilson came on in the second half and fitted in seemlessly with MG-W and scored two good goals . The third goal was a brilliant backheel pass from MG-W to Wilson to slot home past the keeper.
You can see the football improving in the U23’s as with the first team.
We enjoyed that.
The play Everton next Monday 7pm Telford.
Come on me babbies.
Just finished work in time on Saturday afternoon to watch the game, and what joy, A home win, three points, not the usual 2 goals per home game conceded, and our goalkeeper punching away a cross in he last minute. Oh and yes the lads can play, maybe a bit lightweight but Ben Marshall and our excellent manager can sort that out. My darling wife saw the following in a cardshop in the Wulfrun centre today.
Woman wanted, must be able to cook, make love, dig worms and have a boat. Any woman interested please send picture of boat. Maybe Amanda could include the picture on the blog next time she posts a comment.
A guy brings his best golf buddy home, unannounced, for dinner at 6:30, after enjoying a day of golf.
His wife screams her head off while his friend sits at the kitchen table, open mouthed, listening to all of her bitching…
“My hair and makeup are not done, the house is a fucking mess and the dishes are still in the sink. I’m completely exhausted! I didn’t get enough sleep last night because of your loud snoring. Can’t you see I’m still in my fucking pajamas? And, I can’t be bothered with cooking tonight! Why the fuck did you bring him home without letting me know ahead of time, you stupid asshole!?”
“Because …
he’s thinking of getting married…”
Dont really see that many people getting carried away. Apart from being pleased with the result guarded optimism with reservations still surrounding most of the players seems to be about where we are. Perhaps the good thing is we are getting results while there is still so much room for improvement.
Paul Lambert has instilled fighting spirit and renewed confidence in the players generally but none more that Batth, Ikeme and Stearman. They are now back to their best form. Recently it looked like Stearman would be sent back to Fulham and Batth dropped or loaned out. Ikeme was definitely short on confidence, probably because the others were as well. Lambert has turned them around. Ikeme was immense against Stoke, Batth and Stearman were resolute against Villa. They are like three new signings.
Watching the Villa game I was impressed with the non-stop energy of Wolves. I’d love to get a new shirt sponsor, like Duracell. The Duracell colours are gold and black and, as we all know, the Duracell bunny just keeps on going. A match made in heaven?
Dave Edwards’ agent should get him his own personal sponsorship with Duracell!
UTW!
I’m with you there Dances. I’ve often thought Duracell would be a good fit – unless the team was a little flat (sorry couldn’t resist that last bit).
I just wished I knew about football !
Then maybe I could understand why we ve let Prince Oniangue go but kept hold of Saville and Evans . Could someone please explain this to old thicko here
Because Prince has been out since PL came in and needs first team outings to get back up to speed. Until he has those games, any judgement on his abilities would be premature.Mr Lambert has faith in Messrs Saville and Evans and knows how they play and how they fit in with his team plans.
I’m sure that he’ll have people watching Prince during his loan at Bastia with a view to making more long term decisions in the summer.
So there. 🙂
Duh ! Fanx geez a !
Matt there is a very good question in there. I have seen Evans play quite well but what does Saville bring to the party ? He has ‘ghosted’ in to score a few goals but he can do that because the opposition generally dont know he is on the pitch. Most of the time he just seems to pass it back to whoever passed it to him.
I know . We see the same thing
A lot of people in football really rate him . They say that technically , he’s got everything . I haven’t seen it yet
. Like you , I see that Evans has the better prospects. He tackles , he’s relatively quick and he seems more positive with the ball .
I liked the look of Prince tho as he seemed to get to grips with this league quicker than most of our imports .
Agreed Matt hope to hook up sometime before end of the season got a lot going on at the moment that is all new to me !
Sound ominous Col .
It would be great to meet up mate . Look forward to it !
There are increasingly more and more things in life I don’t understand. Facebook, Twitter, reality TV, the celebrity culture, my car’s built-in Sat-nav, how Jonathan Ross gets work and bottled water to name but a few.
I can now add one more.
We loan out Prince Oniangue and keep George Saville.
It gets worse. Not only do we keep Mr Saville but we keep him in the first team squad. Now if we were hanging on to him because he was good at sweeping out the changing rooms or he always brings in Mars bars for everyone then fair enough. I doubt that’s why we are keeping him though so I ask…..WTF?
Gotta agree Beds i thought Prince adapted well to the rigours of championshite footy, but what do we know.
I feel we have in PL a coach who is a steady eddy and not a flair type,so imo he will struggle to impress as far as excitement goes and maybe he feels or been told he must work with what he’s got for the time being.
Then having said that we did play with flair against the clay heads.????
Lincoln City 1 – Ipswich 0
Sacked in the morning
He should be sacked in the morning
The footy Gods luv us?
Tee Hee Hee.
Lincoln are the nearest club to Newark, playing against our old manager so I had to have a flutter. Did a double with Sutton United and have just picked up my winnings which has paid for my Norwich tickets.
Happy days.
Ian,
Bamford’s mum was spot on with her intel, he was at Boro yesterday having a medical and he’s up there sorting terms out today.
When we get to Naarrich I will phone you, we are meeting Stevie Showcase and we can all sit together, (I don’t think it’s a sellout).
Stu
Okay Stu, it is mine and Sue’s fourth consecutive away game and we haven’t conceded a goal in any of the previous three so hope the run continues. Missed out on Burton though as I see they are now sold out. Enjoyed going there for the friendly not long ago.
Wow that was bad even Clippy fecked off.
OMG
RIP Racael Heyho-Flint, Wolves ran through her blood.
So Sad
Sorry, Rachael Heyhoe-Flint.
What a gentle lovely soft spoken lady, Bully will be devestated.
RIP Rachel.
My wife is gutted Rachel was her PE teacher at Northicote Grammar. Apparently was the first in the pub with the 6th form.
No record that she paid for the first round
A lovely lady with a great sense of humour.
Rachel was PE teacher to the girls at my old school The Municipal Grammar just down the road from the Molineaux. She was hugely popular but kept good discipline.
RIP Miss Heyhoe
Really saddened by the news . She was a good friend to London wolves . Had the pleasure of her company on a couple of occasions . One quite recently
A massive loss to all including Wolverhampton city itself .
What a great shame .
I posted this in the wrong place (senior moment) so I’m doing it again.
Really sad about Rachael.
Another link with Sir Jack gone.
She was a top lady, a tough cookie but a real sweetie – and a damn fine cricketer.
Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, oh no, so sad to hear that news. What a lovely lady she was. Had the pleasure of meeting her several times over the past 27 years and she was always so flipping nice. First time I met her was in the ‘green room’ at Tyne Tees Television in March 1990. She was one of the ‘celebrity’ panellists, along with Lionel Blair, John Junkin and Liza Goddard, and I was one of the contestants on a quiz show called ‘Cross-Wits’ hosted by Tom O’Connor. I spoke with her for ages (it was only a couple of months after we’d won 4-1 at Newcastle with Bully running riot) and she was truly lovely.
Please don’t say 2017 is going to continue like 2016 with much loved and respected people from showbiz and sport passing away all the flipping time.
RIP Rachel. Never really met her but I know Wolves were always in her heart. She always seemed to be the force behind many good deeds organised by WWFC in support of the sometimes less fortunate amongst our Wolves family. I trust there will be a fitting tribute at the Mol.
Cheesy,
Ask your wife if she knows my mate Mick Bird, she was his PE teacher also.
Stu
It was my wife just not cheeses.
She knew a Bird not sure the name was Mick.
Did he have a maths teacher Maddock-Jones
Sorry mate don’t know how I did that, oh but then again I do, I’m a dozy prat I will ask him,
No mate not a name he recalls, sorry.
Yes RIP Rachael what a lady,Lady Wulfruna through and through. Bully looked really upset.
Rachel Flint ….. A truly Wonderful lady who was my PE teacher in days gone by.
The remarkable thing about her was that I met her at a function in Sir Jacks, told her I was a former pupil and to my amazement she knew my name…and no not through dishing out the cane.
She’ll be up there with Sir Jack having a right old laugh and looking down on us to follow their beloved club’s fortunes.
RIP Rachel….you will receive rapturous applause for your services to the country, community and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Do you know Mick Bird, he’s about our age.
If I’m honest the name doesn’t ring a bell…I would probably be a lot younger though….
Hiya Stuey…I’ve just booked our train tickets for Liverpool….can you try and get me 2 tickets with our supporter numbers…ta mate….
According to the website, you have enough points to get yours on Friday, I will pick them up then matey and let you know.
Stu
How do you know how many points you got? Do I apply Thursday or Friday or Saturday? Need to get two tickets using mine and BOG’s STH details. If I have to wait till Saturday will there be any left? Why are there so many questions? If I get tickets shall we meet up beforehand? Will get train to Liverpool Lime Street arriving 10.44am then……..? Was thinking taxi to Arkles pub near the ground.
Beford.
How many away matches have you done?, we all start on 1120 1 believe then we get 10 after each away game has been attended.
Try tomorrow after 10 am there are for 1100 points which you may just have, they wont let you buy tomorrow as there are none until Friday anyway so they put them up for you if you have the 1110 points.
YOU WILL BE DEFINITELY 100 % ELIGIBLE ON FRIDAY MORNING 10am as you definitely have 1120 + points. If you don’t want BOGS I will GLADLY buy it off you for my grandson he’s 12 and would just be £5, but any queries just get an adult ticket, Obviously that’s if no one else has asked you first. If I dont get his now we wont be able to stand together and as a 12 year old that woulfd be a pisser.
But as I say if you promised it elsewhere your cool, give it to them.

Hi Stu
Thanks for that info. I will check and see what I need to do.
I have sort of half promised the 2nd ticket to someone already sorry.
Bully’s do – sorry about that but if it helps I didn’t even get to go myself in the end!
Also meant to say that Brompton is my plan B back-up plan if the person I have promised it to doesn’t come through as he was begging me on here a week or so ago and I felt sorry for him as I don’t think he gets out much apart from when he is on manoeuvres.
….. when he is on ……
should read, “when he was on” …. I Retired lol.
Twice
My wife wants to know if you went to Northicote as well.
1961-1968 are the relevant dates
Yes between 58 and 63…..
HERE’s THE LIVERPOOL MATCH TICKET DETAILS FOR EVERYONE GOING.
WOLVES GOT 8300
http://www.wolves.co.uk/documents/liverpool-facup4-a67-3526301.pdf
Walk on through the rain….and in our case storms..should be fousands going…
COYW
You want a ticket npbuddy, I can get one Monday I would imagine.
Hi Bloggers.
I really need two tickets for Anfield, can anyone help. By the time I become eligible to try to get one the 8300 would have sold out.
I wait patiently in anticipation.
Two? I might have one going spare if the person who said they want it lets me down (as they are likely to do). Would one be ok and has it got to be two? Downside is you’d have to sit/stand next to me for 2 hours!
One minimum. I was going to take my son in law, but he will dip out lol. Be an honour to “stand” next to you mate.
Hi bloggers
Me and Sue can’t go so if anyone wants me to try and get two tickets using our numbers let me know. Can’t promise but I will try.
I would try mate as I am certain you will shift them. I certainly am looking for two and if not sold out before I get a chance at 9 a.m on Sunday and you have managed to get two I will buy them from you. Bedford has said that I may be able to get one from him, but nothing confirmed yet.
Ment to be getting weimann on loan from.derby
I don’t get it don’t think he is any better than we have, hope it won’t be like alf, Graham or the kiddy from Hull who was shit
Lambert does know him from villa so we will see
It is confirmed mate. He has signed on loan till the end of the season. As long as he starts banging the goals in, I don’t particularly care as the strikers we have aren’t doing their job just now.
Another loan who record stinks from Derby while Derby sign Nuggett………..echos of Morgan and Moxey deals.
Disappointment again in January just as it seems the team are finally starting to gel instead of adding some quailty ie Nuggett like Derby have………….same old story.
As for me, Paul, I prefer Weimann to Nugent, who, as far as I can see, is a lemon. Weimann may or may not be the answer to our prayers, but he’s a lot better than no-one—worth a five-month viewing! Welcome to Wolves, Andi!
Even our supporters club are having to allocate Liverpool tickets on loyalty Points ( amount of away games with L W this season ) Most of those guys never miss a game . So I am now doubting that I will get a ticket .
I thought we were allowed 25 % of capacity for the fa cup . That’s 13500 not 8000
Matt.
As you see above, Newark has two tickets, (with more than enough points on), if you get the ST number off him I will get you one tomorrow without a doubt.
Text me,
07710-449440
Stu
I did not know Newark was a STH. If not then he aint gonna get a ticket until Sunday (if any are left by then)
Thank ou stu
I’ve been in touch with our travel sec today and I’m pretty sure I’m ok .
Thanks tho stu . Jolly nice of you
The rules have changed London. It’s now 15% I think so long as there are no segregation issues.
Oh !
What can I moan about now ?
******* BLOGGERS UNITE *******
Thanks, thanks and thanks. I have now got two tickets for the match. Thanks Bedders for releasing the ST for me, thanks Twixfix for releasing the ST for me and thanks Stuwolf for arranging that.
This Blog is awesome. Myself and my Son in-law will see you at Anfield guys (I WILL have cash to pay you all)
I am sure our new striker will show the others how to put the ball in the back of the net as we progress to the next round. Come on me babbies.
Steve – what time you arriving and you going pub beforehand? Am told Arkles is the away pub about five minutes from ground. Trying to link up with London Wolves Loyal and the Twixfix duo to arrive together.
Was planning on driving down and getting there about 1100 hrs. Will look at train timings though to see if that is practicable. Meeting up at Arkles sounds good, just need to look it up and make my way there I will be with my son in-law Paul.
Not a Brown envelope surely ….
I am having a long day at work Mike. You completely lost me on that one …. haven’t a clue what you are on about.
Thanks for the phone call mate. Totally understand now lol. Everday’s a school day!
Talk about being out of touch! Just picked up on the passing of Rachael Heyhoe Flint (in my defence I am still struggling with this Queen’s Cough thing).
I had the pleasure of meeting her in 1969 when she presented the Sixth Form prizes at Graiseley School (near St Luke’s).
Not the best of birthdays so far but I’m determined to make up for it tonight with a nice meal with family and friends.
Anyone know,the,latest on Jordan graham?
Lefty
Here’s the latest.

Here’s an interview with Andreas Weimann losn striker from Derby. Most interesting oart for me is Conor Ronan & Morgan Gibbs-White in full training with them. Bring on the Naaarwich
https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=U6JfIJFMZoc
Yep ! Ticket got and train as well !
Matt – what time does your train get into Liverpool Lime Street? I’m on the train too and be good to coordinate arrival times so we can share taxi to pub/ground. Twixfix on the train too and trying to tie up with him and Mrs Twixfix as well.
We get into Lime St at 09:21…. we’re then going to Weatherspoons just down the hill for brekkie….so we can meet on the steps of Lime St at yr arrival time.
Will give you a ring Dave in next few days when tickets are all sorted.. best wishes to missus..xx
Only know what time it leaves at the moment . 8 07 out of euston , but keeping arrangements close to station sounds good . Dare say there will be a couple of hours spare .
I reckon 2 and a half hours train eh ?
Just looked it up Matt…arrives 10:21…..
Matt & Twixfix – what time trains you on for the (celebratory) return journey home afterwards? Looks like my train will get in at Liverpool Lime Street 10.11am but not sure what train to book for the return.
Hey bedders ! 17 47 return train . ( much cheaper apparently)
I read this on the E & S site, and make no apologies for copying it.
Could not have put it any better.
“One of the few occasions when I find myself in agreement with Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey.
Rachel Heyhoe Flint is one of the true daughters of Wolverhampton whose name will provide a beacon for the city for as long as Wolverhampton exists.
Along with Sir Jack, they are both champions of a bygone age in which they excelled with dignity and respect, attributes that include Graham Taylor – a trio of the great and the good who once graced the corridors of Molineux, and who have now sadly passed away.
In an era where the on-field exploits have not matched the off-field presence of these 3 individuals at the club, the club and the city have been enriched by their association.
We are poorer for the loss.”
Egert jonson. Any other anonimous /ghost Jan signings?
Bloggers,
Meet up at The Arkles sounds good on the 28th:
The Arkles
77 Anfield Road
L4 0TJ
See you there.
Trains? Robbing barstewards. I must have a bit of jock in me as I aint paying those prices to travel from Darlington to Liverpool.
I am driving down instead and restrict myself to 5 pints!!!
I will be parking opposite the Arkles pub if plans go well.
Get the train you miserable old git! Me, London Wolves Loyal and Twixfix and Mrs Twixfix are all training it and converging on the Wetherspoons right near Liverpool Lime Street for bacon rolls etc and a drink or two before getting taxis to Arkles/the ground (depends on how many drinks the Twixfixes put away as its only them what drinks as both me and London are tee-total as you know).
If we can afford the train then a multi-mega-rich oligarchical type such as your good self must be able to rustle up a few spare squids surely? Maybe Clive will ‘sub’ you? You know all them Yanks are rolling in it and probably even more so now they have a new President. I hear Clive has got the contract to build that bloody great fence to keep all the Mexicans out so that must be worth a bob or two.
pmsl. Let me know what time you are arriving at Lime Street. I (we) will meet you all in Spoons for brekky. I am driving down, much more flexible and it stops me “hanging one on”, I know you southern lot – I will save that up for the end of season bash.
My mobile is 07464970597.
There are a number of Wetherspoons near Lime Street. Which one is it?
