Claiming to have witnessed the worst Wolves performance in 30 years loses its meaning after a while, after saying it so often in recent times.
But that was, without a shadow of a doubt, the worst Wolves performance I have ever witnessed in 30 years.
On a day we celebrated Bully and Thommo’s magical milestone before kick-off, their modern day contemporaries blackened the shirts they wore with such pride.
Never mind ‘new manager syndrome’ for Paul Lambert. This was dead cat bounce of bottom-three proportions, doing absolutely nothing constructive other than cement our two heroes’ legacy further.
In this instance, Lambert brought it on himself by playing Conor Coady, George Saville and Dave Edwards in the same midfield. Not so much a recipe for disaster, but a lethal concoction to earn any head coach the sack before the ink has even dried on his contract.
It’s bad enough having one of your midfielders locked into your ‘worst ever Wolves XI’ side. It’s absolutely terrifying that there’s another one there alongside him, with deferential Dave Edwards shuffling between opponents with all the impact of a junior waiter between the Toby Carvery tables.
‘Everything ok for you sir?’ he’d politely enquire, after the ball has been zipped from whence he’d came.
We got relegated with Edwards as a mainstay four years ago and if Lambert plays that midfield for a single game ever again, then we’ll be heading the same way.
Back in 2012/13, the prospect of the drop didn’t dawn until February time. This season, that rotting stench is there already – and we haven’t even reached December yet.
Back then, we had Bakary Sako, Karl Henry, Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Foley in our squad. This time around, we are caught between two stools:
1. Play the proven dross that got Jackett and Zenga the sack
2. Play the batch of waifs and strays who are probably no better
My own opinion, for what it’s worth, is that option 2 cannot be any worse than 1. And I never want to see the likes of Coady, Saville and Edwards in the same midfield ever again.
On this latest performance, we need eight new first team players (unless Saiss, Oniangue and one or two others can convert into first team material).
Only Kortney Hause, Price and Costa looked anything like respectable against Wednesday, while Stearman also gets a modicum of sympathy for being largely fine, but still unable to eradicate the one howler-per-game that always ends up in the back of our net.
Bodvarsson looks spent – and starved of any service – Doherty looks half arsed, while Iorfa appears to be unable to control his own faculties, let alone the ball to feet. His shocking loss of form is arguably the most depressing sight of all.
The one paced plodders ahead of them speak for themselves and frankly, they’re not fit to lace the boots of Phil Robinson, Nigel Vaughan and Keith Downing back in the day.
It’s not like we’re hankering after those Old Gold heroes anymore – never mind dear Bully and Thommo.
So passionless, leaderless and rudderless is this side that I’d settle for Nigel Quashie.

Seems to be a lack of team spirit probably due to arrival of so many below average cast-offs from Jorge Mendes’s stable.
We are desperate for a leader and an experienced centre-back in the first instance.
Have a multi-million pound takeover and get considerably worse as a team. Appoint a new manager, and become the only club in the country to have no ‘new manager bounce’ (one 0-0 draw doesn’t count as a ‘bounce’). Only Wolves could do this. Finishing 21st is an achievement this season, and I fear we won’t. How’s Brucey doing at Villa?
What did we learn yesterday.
A radical cull is required in January
Not one but two experienced centre backs are needed plus one striker who can perform at this level (Crouch anyone)
A rethink of tactics is needed: could a 3-5-2 work? We have a surfeit of midfielders but cannot control this area, five in midfield might. But to make this work intelligent, sophisticated players and hours and hours of practice, every week are needed. Not sure that our present squad can meet these demands.
Speaking of the squad it may include good players but not a good team. Non of them communicate, support or play for each other.
Many thanks to Twixfix and the other bloggers who were so friendly towards me at The Parkview yesterday.
Lambert kept the team from the first game. A very defensive line-up. Things freshened up a bit in the second half when Dicko entered the game. A disappointing game.
Hi mate
It was nice to meet you and look forward to seeing you at another game soon.
Ian & Susan
Fire Shi . He may be well intentioned but seems incompetent.
I witnessed that shambolic lack of pride and performance of a team going nowhere but down if this continues.
I agree with you totally Ben on your verdict there’s was not one who could lace the boots of messers Bull and Tommo.
People may think its early days to have a pop at the manager- coach whatever they call them these days, but for me he must share a lot of the blame for what went on yesterday.
I know a lot a fans think we have to many foreign players but they are better than what we witnessed yesterday.
I can’t really add to what you’ve said already Ben but I’m more than worried with what’s happening to our club.
Lambert is another Hackett in my opinion, hope he proves me wrong.
I have already forgotten what football looks like. Can’t remember anything we did on Sat and I didn’t drink any more than I normally do.
Graham Turner, Mick McCarthy and Dave Jones made it look easy when they made us into a consistently top-end Championship team (at worst).
Sorry sorry sorry sorry but stop attacking the players and put the blame firmly where it should be, at the managers doorstep.
The brilliance of virtually the same players against Reading,Brum,Newcastle and Villa when Zenga did get it right.
Now even Mark McGhee 2 is blaming the players for being no good.
Why why why did he not tell the owners when he signed his contract ?
All week he has been telling the world that Wolves youngsters, are the best he has ever seen.
Its MM2 that is no good and is to blame.
How many times must football fans be told that it is the manager, who is responsible for bringing success to a football club and nobody else ?
Buying himself time through excuses.

Amanda, Jusy how old are you?
I have never read such absolute drivel as this. Lambert has been here just a couple of weeks, yet you in your infinite wisdom see fit to write him off. He did not select the dross from which he somehow has to conjure winning team. He simply inherited it as a consequence of the gross errors / negligence of others. No manager in the world could transform this rabble into a ‘” team “. A massive clear out of this overpaid group of non performers is surely essential.
If this is the best you can do, I suggest that you take up watching netball matches
Patience is running thin even from me who tries to see good even in the most unpromising of places. But our midfield yesterday was woeful.
The defence is weak, it can’t defend it can’t support the attack. Yet again we conceded in the first 15 minutes.
Dicko mooted as star man by Tim Spiers could’nt hit a barn door at the moment. Jon Dadi still looks good but he’s having to come too deep because his teammates cannot get the round thing near him.
A new team is needed, hope we can stay up but are there 3 worse sides in this league? You would think Rotherham, Wigan & Burton likely downward contenders but on yesterday’s performance I don’t know where the next point is coming from.
Hope Lambert et al can improve us & he has to be given time. But yesterday Wednesday were a league in class above us.
You can only think that the team that beat Newcastle, Blues & played Villa off the park has been captured by aliens & now orbits the outer galaxies of the universe.
The young girl sitting next to me with her Dad summed it up. She was reading the match programme her dad asked why she was not watching the match – “The programme is much better”, she was about 10 and I suspect her dad was hoping she was a young fan in the making, I don’t think he has a hope in hell.
My observations:-
The match = Abysmal
The train journey = Abysmal
My cheese & bacon burger = Fantastic
Wolves shop = Decent
My day out with my daughter = Brilliant despite the performance/result
I must now applaud those of you who are paying out week after week to watch the dross that the current squad continue to spew out – you have my utmost respect and sympathy.
How anyone can play Saville is beyond me, both him and Lee Evans are lightweight and should be nowhere near a Championship level team – oops I forgot on this evidence we soon won’t be!!
Joking apart Lambert has one hell of a job to get this mess sorted out. Presumably a mass clear out in January/loan system and an influx of 3/4 tried and tested players.
At the moment I don’t see where the next win is coming from.
Personally I think a key learning point from yesterday was that we don’t have the players to succeed in applying the tactics we employed yesterday. The Liverpool style pressing game may be highly fashionable at the moment and I’m sure this was the message that registered strongly with Pl during his recent time in Germany. But we don’t have the energy or the aggression or the mental guile to apply it at present and we currently walking a precarious tightrope. What we do have is youth some flair and most of all pace. I think we need to set up deeper and pull teams on too us then catch them on the counter attack. Bring back Saiss and Oniongue in the middle of the park and move Coady to full back. Take a look at our set up at Newcastle and the second half at Villa. We can start with Costa and Cavaleiro or bring them on after 50 -60 minutes when the opposition are tiring. We have pace options in Nouha, Ola John, and Joe Tex. We do have the players to provide a relentless pace threat. But we need to hold that centre of the field area. We need to apply it even at home against better sides until we establish discipline and confidence. We need to grind out results till we can get the right players to dominate teams. Don’t look to Liverpool and Germany for inspiration, look at Leicester last season and Portugal in the Euro’s.
Yes jackomac … well said . I absolutely agree
If you were to pick a Beatles tribute group from the Wolves’ squad picking Coady, Savile, Edwards, and Price would give you four Ringos. Yesterday’s game had the feel of a Ringo tribute concert but without any boogaloo. Unless Lambert can find a John, Paul or George we’re snookerood and it’s good night Vienna.
Sometimes it seems that managers are playing crap players just to prove a point to the owners. Perhaps mainly to keep them in the shop window, keep their value up, although I can’t see any queues forming to take on any of our poorer performers.
Let’s hope it has worked. Lambert has said he wants a clear out. He’s also said he rates some of the youngsters, and I expect him to include some in the next few matches, and I’m still hoping that some of the new signings can be managed into displaying their undoubted skills.
If there was any doubt we were in a relegation battle there shouldn’t be now. Where the wins are going to come from I have no idea.
In a way I can understand Lambert’s plan to build from a strong base but playing 451 at home with a supposed winger that is Saville and a striker who looks like he’ll never have a shot again, let alone score, is highly questionable.
Why not play Caveleiro and Dicko from the start? We’re in big trouble, let’s just hope Lambert can inject some inspiration from somewhere.
While it was bad, I don’t know about worst performance. Anyone who was unfortunate to witness Brentford at home last season or Ipswich the year we went down will know they were at least some contenders.
Rich, I said this weeks ago.

I didn’t see the match so I can’t comment on it.
But I respect your opinion Ben and it seems from your report, and that of other contributors, that things can’t get much worse.
Mind you, we’ve been saying that for over a season now.
But I must call into question a couple of things that The Cape of No Hope has said.
1) How many times must football fans be told that it is the manager, who is responsible for bringing success to a football club and nobody else ?
That is one of the silliest things I have read in a long time. I don’t think that I can even be bothered to begin to list the reasons why it is errant nonsense.
So I won’t.
But if you take that argument to its logical conclusion, We’ll pick a Wolves team from the bloggers (bags I in goal and Amanda can be the midfield clogger), get Jurgen Klopp to manage us and we’ll win the league.
Oh! Hang on. Now I’ve put it like that it makes perfect sense.
Silly me!.
2) In the last thread she said:-
‘Get out your petitions as you embarrassingly supported against Money Shop, which was the stuff of hypocrites as you wear the shirt.’
I don’t, and never will, wear that shirt.
and:-
‘Remember the future is bright the future is orange like the home kit you wear.’
I don’t, and never will, wear an orange shirt (or a puke green one).
My shirt is Old Gold and has no sponsors name on it, just the old Wolves badge.
On a brighter note. The Bonzos were brilliant!
A load of old men having a bloody good time.
A bit like a good proportion of contributors to this blog.
Keep your orange shirt on Doggydoo in the defence of your sanctimony.
My god that Sanatogen brain tonic certainly creates fire and vigour.
Your logical conclusion which is errant nonsense, is that many of you self acclaimed forum experts, do pick the teams and even do advise what formation to play.
Doggydoo go back to August onwards and see some of the child like take-over tripe, that you joined in with.
Who then if not the manager, is responsible for training his players, team selection, the formation they play and making the substitutions ? You in the forum ?
Bournemouth,Watford and Brum did,nt have money to spend but have damn good managers.
When Morgan and Moxey could,nt find that elusive manager, you and others on here sniped and abused them, in addition to the embarrassing Wolves terrace protests.
Now it won,t be long before it all begins again.
What Jezz Moxey brought to Wolves and was copied at other clubs, so fan ego,s could have their ten penneth was the Fans Parliament.
Sadly the Chinese do not do democracy and would not listen anyway .
So remember it is their business and not yours so be patient, until they appoint a proper manager that takes Wolves to success, as like me I,m sure that is what they think too.
As they do Doggydoo.
Ananda FFS learn how the keyboard works. You are doing my head in.
cape of no hope..
What Jezz Moxey brought to Wolves and was copied at other clubs, so fan ego,s could have their ten penneth was the Fans Parliament.
so yo are a moxey fan then, hmm, the dickhead who gave the southbank to the tescos and then he gave the managers job to his brother inlaw”clip board” and we know what happened then dont we. not to mention his involment with countless dross managers and players.HIS LEGACY IS ONE THAT STILL LEAVES A BAD TASTE AT THE WOLVES IM AFRAID.
A new Coach, he needs time to settle in and find his best 11 they said, more of the same Shit to follow for a while, end of the tunnel now moving in the wrong direction, I cannot find an excuse for that team selection, that team would never have produced a result if we played all week, they are last years players that were poor then and can’t cut it now.
What the answer is I know not, better people than I are involved in team selection, but we have given PL a gun with 1 bullet in and his first one drew the bullet and he well and truly shot himself squarely in the head.
If as suggested he is playing politics, then he needs horse whipping and flogged (to some one else) all this bollocks that we go and consolidate against a good side don’t hold water with me. They were a poor, average side who were gifted two stupid passes and when our heads went down they looked better than us. Well, loooking better than us is Fuck all to brag about because we are truly bad, definitely worst game of this season without any shadow of a doubt, Paul Lambert WTF man? WTF?
Well said Stu, couldn’t put it better myself. We were absolute shit yesterday and I spent near on £200 this weekend in Wolvo to watch it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never watched the game, but I read somewhere that “Forestieri was instrumental in Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, winning and scoring the penalty which put the Owls in front at Molineux and starting the move that led to Kieran Lee’s winner by stealing the ball from Richard Stearman’s toes and picking out Lucas Joao, who supplied the cut-back”. So ……………….. Stears is still shit and his mistake led to a goal lol.
I had a good afternoon walking down Northallerton High St with the missus. It was made even better when I bumped into your nephew in the pub. Two Wolves fans who had better things to do than watch Wolves lose!
See you at a match sometime soon Stu, not sure when as Coroners are involved so no funeral date yet set.
hope all turns out for the family, they do have a case. Get back on track soon buddy, love our chats when there’s fuck all happening on the pitch.
Glad you bumped into the Nephew, genuinely one of the nicest humans I know, and he’s not bad either.:-)
We are live on TV on Thursday night so everyone can have another jolly good laugh at us…
Against Hollaway of all people..
Sorry Amanda But I have to disagree with you on this one.. these players were never, aren’t and never will be good enough for this level..
League one players, I can only assume they want to go back there..
Doesn’t matter who is manager if the players can’t or won’t play..
Was anyone from Fosun actually at the game ?
Lamberts outlook has gone from “top 6” to “relegation battle” … after just two games.
Multi-billion pound owners, 12 new signings just to see Kennys donkeys and Kennys donkey tactics on display …
It seems its the blind leading the blind – and as pathetic as the players might be you really have to point the finger a little higher to those in suits who sanction these recruitment decisions
im pretty skeptical at the best of times but not even I would have thought pumping millions into the club would cause such an implosion.
Positives. well, looks like the hammers might be back in for iorfa – being sold would at least ensure he doesnt get into the side.
just remembered another positive – Zenga tweeted recently that he would like to come back one day – how does thursday sound ?
What are the odds of Fosun putting the club up for sale before the end of this season?
Two weeks ago PL says let’s give it a go for the play offs, not impossible. After yesterday’s dreadful performance PL says relegation a strong possibility. Problems he has inherited 1 To many basic errors by every player (who ever is selected) in the back four. 2 Yesterday’s midfield performed no better than fit park players. Big big mistake selling Mac Donald.3 Dadi will never score goals in the roll he expected to play, he has no support or service. Could go and on, criticise individuals, but this is a team game so over to you Mr Lambert, the clock is ticking.
Loose big Sam as we did and run the risk of a replacement that will struggle at first to get it right..or not..
Zenga would prob of played a Portuguese midfield and exposed the back ..PL plays our second rate players and we still get exposed and of course Steers drops one of his pearlers ..he rates with me with DB EEL as part of our suicide squad and as much as EEL has gone currently ..Steers and DB are capable to take us back to league 1 on their own ..
Add Iorfa who is infected too and yesterday Doherty, then regards my favourite subject not conceding..suggests now we are in a very serious state here indeed..
My whining regarding Sako is because we haven’t a game changer except perhaps Costa ..Bod the ice man is being infected too, Dicko is well ..I’m not sure to be honest…
Being cynical we could need 10 players and with the irony of us having money now,the Wolves fan syndrome is dominating all fixtures as in we always seem to struggle in the end….
currently this is almost as bad as it gets..
Lambert needs to act fast …or ring up big Sam for advice..
Things are getting serious…
We never LOST big Sam. he CHOSE not to come. I agree with you when you said ALMOST as bad as it gets. I can get worse, like it probably will on Thursday!!
Do I go to London for the game? No.
Do I go to the pub for the game? No
Do I watch/listen to it on the net? No
Do I check results on the web at Full Time? Probably
Do I expect us to win on Thursday? No
This must be bad, as I have never been so negative in all my life. Come on PL …. get this feking sorted out – DAMN QUICK!!!
I wouldn’t wait till January to have a clear out pay them off now, Fosun can afford it the longer these useless inept pretenders hang around the harder it will be to motivate those that want to play.
I would expand the clear out to the back room staff as well and that includes Rob Edwards popular I know but when you consider he’s been coaching since McCarthy was in charge have things improved……..? Yes may be with Jackett but that was in League One and I suspect that if Lambert had his way he would of brought in a bigger back room team than he did, I believe Edwards was politely forced on him.
I know I might draw flak for that but hey, that my option like it or lump it. Therwell is another one. Partric Veria is director of football at Man City he’s played the game at the highest level if he recommends a player you listen, Therwell and for that matter Mendez what level did they play to………none.
Therwell is an administrator like Moxey he from the same mould couldn’t spot a decent player if he kicked him up the arse.
And Fosun you’ve made a right balls up so far but…….don’t do a Morgan and abandon us like he did you’ve stared something and is your duty to finish it, my advice seek advice from REAL football people not those on the make, the one saving grace is I believe Fosun are honourable it’s in there DNA and they won’t walk away and cut us a drift but and it’s a big but they need to wise up and fast to the hangers on and charlatans that are out to make a quick buck.
Lambert PLAY Dicko from the start he needs games to get fit and his form he might not be the player he was but he’s the best striker on our books and for fuck sake NEVER play Savile again.
Pretty sure Lopetegui hand a hand in selecting who was brought in. Is that good enough for you?
I make no apology for repeating my main comments prior to the Sheffield Wednesday debacle.
“Too early for PL to get to grips with the inadequacies within the squad. After last week’s shut out against Preston we were hailing the improvement in the defensive performance. One game is inconclusive.
There remains a lack of creativity from midfield leading to few chances to score.
What few opportunities are being made are not being converted by an impotent strike force. We need to be more deadly in front of goal.
There is no evidence yet to convince me that we can score, never mind score more goals than our opponents.”
Sadly, I think the players went on to prove my point.
We are entering December in a few days and there should be no more excuses from players or management for the dire performances that have not improved from last year’s pathetic efforts. SHAME ON YOU – WHERE IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL PRIDE? SHOW SOME FIGHT AND SOME BOTTLE FOR DOGS SAKE!!
The large number of supporters attending the Sheff. Wed. game will not be enticed to return to Molineux if this is the standard of football that continues to be played.
If, as we are led to believe, the boss of Fosun is ruthless and determined to get Wolves into the Premier League sooner rather than later, then I wouldn’t want to be in Jeff Shi’s shoes at this moment in time.
Ok we all have the same target, time to back owners players and manager or we gonna self destruct once more and piss off the owners as we did with Steve Morgan & Sir Jack the only thing that has never changed is the fickle fans. Look at Chelsea last season they were looking at the bottom of the table and now are back at the top
I recall my last visit to the dentist was more pleasurable than the extraordinary spectacle I watched yesterday. I mean extraordinary in a very bad way. There were interesting cloud formations over Whitmore Reans and my feet were very cold. I even mentioned that I might bugger off up the pub and watch the rugby should the ‘entertainment’ not improve. But stay till the bitter end I did. I agree with Ben. I can’t recall a worse display. Even the hapless team of the Bhatti era used to put a bit of effort in. Any way as the heady excitement of Fosun takeover recedes I think I am going to play one of my favourite Joy Division tracks ‘NEW DAWN FADES’…. ….. Oh and just to finish. Does anyone know where the 11 wins are coming from to avoid relegation ?
Thelwell to go
Dicko to play and to always play 2 up at home at the very least give jon dadi at least some support.
Saville dropped Division 1 standard at best, why he and Wallace were purchased who knows perhaps a thelwell choice ?
Cavalero to start
Sort Iorfa out because as a regular wolves supporter we all know that if he did leave he would be brilliant for any other team – why do so many wolves players have to leave to become better players and play in prem ? Sako, Afobe, Stephen Ward, Sam Vokes. There is something inheritantly not right at the club
Why wait to bring on the subs yesterday ? at least with Zenga he had the bottle to use all your subs in most games and some after 45 mins – have the bottle if it aint working change it.
Always thought the full backs jobs were to stop crosses into the box.
Where are the wingers to get our crosses in ? use Cav and Costa
Reading are 3rd with a foreign manager but perhaps Scottish counts ?.
Oh yes yesterday really hurt, perhaps they were overcome with the large crowd, bull etc but we need the team to embrace the pressure not go flaky – we are waiting for a response on Thursday guys
Hey Bash, along the same lines to what you are saying, it’s not that when players leave Wolves they become better, i’ts players coming to Wolves become worse! Look at Tex and Bod. Both of them had at least 3 games each where they were voted MOTM. Look at them now. Tex has been the biggest disappointment. These last couple of games he seemed to be intent on getting booked asap. He even argued and sneered at the ref to make sure he did.And he seems very lethargic on the field. Bod is so lonely without Joe up front. Defo needs a partner up there. Some people are saying we need to change just about the whole team. What then – a couple of months for them to gel and get used to each other (if they work out at all). By then it’s too late.
11 completely different players couldn’t do worse than that excuse for a team on Saturday. They did not support, encourage each other or communicate.
I’ve got the nod from a mole in Molineux that there’s a top Serbian striker that will solve our goal drought. Thel(notvery)well has had him watched and he’s mad keen.
Keep shtumm everyone.
Any Premier League scout watching this clip will be chomping at the bit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-nmIOLnFfo
Doog you……….I genuinely though you were on the level. Actually I saw that clip on Soccer AM.
Sign him up..!
Ben, a fair summary, all round criticism was justified, but you omitted to give some credit to Wednesday. They were on a poor run and everybody seemed to underestimate them before the game. Some wild scoring predictions were made here.
This is the best Wednesday team for a good few years and they will be in the play-offs. Forestieri, I hate the bastard, done good and his penalty wasn’t a dive.
I personally look back fondly on the SEB/Iweluma/Craddock days. As Ray Davies sang “Won’t you tell me. Where have all the good times gone?”
BTW I noticed Gornal Athletic did better yesterday, only losing 2-1 at Bridgnorth. Their record now is P18 W0 D0 L18 GF8 GA70 GD-68 PTS0. I’m sure a win for tem is just around the corner. I wonder who’ll get there first us or them.
Well Ben, thank your lucky stars you haven’t had to watch The Wolves longer than 30 years!!
I am not surprised by yesterday’s result.
Our new manager inherited 100% of the current playing, and I use the term loosely, staff.
If Fosun have learnt the lesson about appointing a manager with experience in this division, I hope they have also learnt the same lesson about buying players on the say so of people like Mendes and Thelwell.
Neither of them having played at any decent level, one of them only interested in lining his pockets and the other one slavishly toadying to all and Sunday just to keep his job.
Lambert needs the next few weeks before the transfer window opens to sort out who he wants to buy, and who is going out of the door.
He inherited this shower of shit, and pigs ears and purses of silk come to mind.
Yes, we all hate when we lose, but for fuck’s sake, give the bloke a chance.
If the signings of the summer haven’t sussed out this division yet, they never will and need to be fucked off asap.
And I am one of the “once they leave, never bring ’em back” brigade.
Sako?
Sakoshit more like. Giving away needless free kicks.
Might as well get Hennessey back, he only let in 5 yesterday!!
We need a complete overhaul, and we have time to improve.
Lets face it we cannot get any worse!
Again, give the bloke a chance and fuck off all the deadwood, in management and agency areas especially.
Oh, and fuck off Amanda as well.
FOwb
I have only just calmed down from the drivel that was witnessed on Saturday. I was never a Paul Lambert fan, ok the players must take some blame but any half decent manager should realise that George Saville is not a winger, start with Cavalerio its a no Brainer. How Saiss cannot get into this side is behond me. It upsets me to see what is happening to our beloved club. We don’t have the best players but we have enough to do half decent, we need the right person to know what to do with them. The Newcastle result was not a fluke we can play well, if we lose to that dick Holloway on Thursday and he plays that waste of space Saville again I think you may just see a grown man cry. Therwell must take some blame, he is in charge of recruitment – what he has got in are not just cutting it. We should give Lambert more than two games but I can tell you my patience is wearing very thin. I hope and pray a turnaround in fortune its all up to you Mr Lambert, all up to you. If you get my club relegated we all will never forgive you.
Welcome Paul, glad you made the transition from Rumours to fact and some very good bloggers to boot.
StuWolf.
I don’t pay lip service to anyone but yesterday really was the worst performance for a long long time.
There were 10 headless Wolves chickens on the pitch yesterday and to decide on a man of the match would be impossible….Every outfield player in a Wolves shirt was shockingly bad.
I’m not about to criticise Lambert …it’s only his second game but boy does he have a task ahead of himself to stear us away from the drop zone.
I also agree with the criticism of his team selection….which if repeated will cast questions about his ability immediately.
Wot an absolute shambles of a performance…take Texeiras entrance …within minutes I was expecting a red card to be waved at his forearm smash on Kieran Lee.
Some decision making was brainless…referring to the Doherty challenge on Forestieri for the pen…and Iorfa …what’s happened to this man… and while I’m on wtf is Hause doing well to justify his place….not much from where I sit.
Coady Saville and regrettably Edwards deserve no place in this team and like escaping a place in the bottom three we have no-one better to replace them.
Where we go from here is anyone’s guess …but no doubt Amanda will come up with some smart arse answer….probably Not recruiting some top notch , nameless coach who can’t wait to come to Wolves….. but hasn’t been asked…
Great to meet up with Cotswold Wolf …along with some familiar faces and Commiserations to Wolfstroker for having a soggy fish….
Thanks Twix. My fish was nowhere near as cooked as our goose.
If I were to write everything I wanted to say about this club at the moment it would be the longest entry ever posted on this blog so I’ll just stick to two points.
The manager: I’m puzzled people are knocking him already. He’s only been here three weeks! Give the bloke a chance. I haven’t met him unlike Thomas and Ben but I think he is a good manager and could be a good manager for us if given the time and the tools to do the job. Unfortunately like Jackett twelve months ago he has realised the only way out of this mess is to grind out results.
The players: I have defended these in the past and think that most of them are decent and as individuals could do a good job for better teams in this division. But collectively the balance is wrong. We have too many followers and not enough leaders. Sadly a major clear out is needed and at least half of the squad needs to go to be replaced with a handful of streetwise proven Championship performers.
Some big decisions to be made in January or a second relegation to League One could become a reality.
Dear Amanda.
So Morgan and Moxey couldn’t find a ‘decent’ manager Eh?
How many goes did they have at trying?
I’ll leave you to answer that.
Does that make them a success during their Wolves tenure?
Not in my book.
THEY kept picking duds.
Nobody else did. Not the fans, not us decrepit bloggers, not you (obviously).
It was all down to them and nobody else.
And another thing. You keep maundering on about how we need a good manager but in spite of everything you have never actually come up with a name that would fit the bill and be prepared to come here.
Is it because, if someone came and they were not successful, we could all call you delusional?
Perish the thought!
Sorry for this rant but I am pissed off now.Look at the top of this article and you will see Iorfa, Hause and The doc – all wearing base layers under their shirts and fucking gloves ! If you ran around a bit more you wouldn’t need this “protection” against the elements. I don’t seem to remember seeing Geoff Palmer or Derek Parkin or Frank Munro or John McAlle wearing anything but their WOLVES shirt. Yes, I am old but I love WWFC. I spend a fortune watching this football club and those young lads earn more in a month than I earn in a year. Get your fingers out your arses, put your iPhones down and realise you are playing for one of the most famous football clubs in the world. Us fans will be here still long after you have moved on to your next big pay packet. And – Amanda Cape – if you want to comment on this article. please do like they used to say in Viz – PISS UP A ROPE FUCK STICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ian,
I knew there was a good reason I like you.
Well said that man, get their fingers out their arses indeed, spoilt brats and prima donuts, I gave my life and family for my work, they don’t give a FECK for us.
Amanda Cape……
She’s just an annoying boil on the arse of a tramp.
Thanks Stu
Pity me and Sue didn’t meet up with you yesterday. We are going to the shit (Forest), Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich away if you are at any of those games ?
Ian,
Jenny and I have Grandparent duties on a Saturday now, my Grandson plays in Derby every Saturday now so we have to do the round trip every Saturday when we’re at Molineux. Away days, should catch up with you and Sue.

One has travelled the world from Southampton to South Africa and I can honestly say that one recognises the above language. It is not English, French, Spanish or Italian, no, it is TWATISH – the language of THE TWAT !
Newark Wolves,
I think I may be able to help you out a little. I’ve lived in the West Midlands (Black Country) for a few years now and I believe I may be fluent in yam yam and I am quite often mistaken for a local when I try hard to blend in. The first thing you should know is that this language is really more of a spoken language and it is difficult to write down clearly or consistently, particularly by the people who speak it themselves; we have a similar problem with writing ancient Anglo Saxon. Useful source material is the set of humorous books about a couple of locals known as Aynuk and Ayli.
There is, in fact, a rigorous syntax within the language which may not be immediately discernible. You’ll need the translations of simple common words to begin with, for instance these words: bay or bae (aren’t), cor (can’t), doe (don’t), day or dae (didn’t), wo (won’t), shor (shall not). These will help you a lot. You will, no doubt, have noticed that there is a clear tendency to emphasise the negative within yam yam. This is generally present within the psyche of the yam yam himself or herself. You may have also noticed it in a number of comments posted here on this blog. So, most sentences begin with a negative. I give a few examples “Day yo goo …. to the match?” (direct translation “Didn’t you go”). This question would perhaps be more often posed in a positive manner outside of this area as, “Did you go …. to the match?”, “Day the Wolves lose?” meaning “Did the Wolves win?”, note the excessive negativity. Another example is “Cor yo spake proper?” meaning “Can you speak correctly?”. The footballers Danny Batth and Steve Bull are fluent yam yams, their variant being Tiptonese, I believe. You could try coming down this way and mixing in occasionally with a large group of yam yam speakers to discover more of the beauty of this language. I would suggest you go to West Bromwich Albion Football Club on a match day. Going to South Africa or Southampton will not help you.
The commenter, in this case, seems to be bemoaning the recent performances of his beloved football team. I think this is the Bilstonese variant.
I don’t wish to bore you but there is a lot more to say about this rich, exotic language such as exchanging or vowel sounds as in rot (rat) and there are particular expressions you’ll need to know such as “Yome saft” meaning “You are an idiot”.
Candy
Bully is definately Tiptonese DB on the other hand speaks in a Brierley Bonk variant
Thank you Tipton Exile for the correction. I knew that Mr Stephen George Bull, MBE, spoke Tiptonese and was aware that Mr Daniel Tanveer Batth, ex CB, was from Brierly Hill, I remember hearing a ritual chant somewhere. I didn’t know that Brierly Bonk was a distinct yam yam variant, instead I though it only a sub variant of Tiptonese. I stand corrected.

Mate good try BUT THAT AINT BLACK COUNRTY by a cuntry mile.
That’s a good accent. Bulgarian ?
Is tony daley still there? Thought so
everyone else has been changed. No fitness no team.
Lambert does need some time, but if you think fosun will spend spend spend I think you are wrong.
Hi mate. Hope you are well.
Let`s get real. Paul Lambert did not recruit the rabble that now dares fill our shirt. He simply inherited this dross, and he must be simply amazed at the gross incompetence of those players now at his disposal. Any finger pointing should not be directed at him but rather at the self styled guru Thelwel et al, who created this crisis
I disagree with those who claim that Mr Lambert has serious ability available to him within our ranks. Evidence clearly proves otherwise. We are abject just about everywhere, as is evidence by yesterday`s team
Central defenders, Steerman and Hause, are hugely error prone and fall into mass panic mode at the mere hint of an opposition attack. Iorfa at right back who appears unable to get his brain to give any meaningful instruction to his legs and feet. A left back who can barely stand on his left foot let alone control the football with it and whose positional play and tackling ability is no better than Sunday league standard.
A midfield with zero constructive ability amongst the lot of them. The concept of making a forward pass to the feet of a colleague appears to be foreign to all of them. How anyone can consider the likes of Saville to be a Championship standard footballer is beyond my understanding. The fact that some on these boards hail the selection of Price as a major improvement is the most severe indictment that can be made. Price is no more than an average Division 1 footballer, who would not get a place in the majority of the teams we have hosted a the Mol this season, yet he is seen as some kind of savior. Utterly ridiculous.
Up front just who is supposed to score the goals.? Unless Dicho can somehow find some form we have no natural proven goal poacher. Jon Dadi is used as a one man strike force, left alone to his own devices. Is it any wonder that his form has so deteriorated ? We are doing to him what McCarthy did to Doyler, and just as Doyler was overcome by work overload, so will be Join Dadi. He must be given some support.
There can be no immediate solution to this train wreck. All we can do is to get behind Mr Lambert and hope that in the weeks up to January he can somehow conjure a few points on the board, before he is allowed to get rid of the dross with which he is encumbered and get in players with experience sufficient to let us escape dreaded relegation. Importantly decisions in this regard should be his. Thelwell should keep his moth firmly shut. Then, who knows, next season may be a different story.
There’s a (crass) old cliche that says you can’t make chicken soup from chicken sh*t. So not really sure why they continue to try. Reality is that we don’t have a single player in the squad today (not one!) who is Premier League quality, so why do they continue to talk about promotion?
The fact that our defense is inadequate was established a long time ago. We were leaking goals in the same fashion last season under KJ with the same boys we have in defense today, when it was deemed necessary to bring in experience and strengthen and the old boy Williamson was brought in, in an attempt to do so. Only problem is, Williamson was injured and injury prone, Newcastle laughed all the way to the bank, and we were left with another wage packet hobbling around the gym, and the same old inadequate defence to play with. Result: we’re still leaking goals and the defence is still poor.
The fact that Saville and Coady were not good enough was established many seasons ago. Why they still draw a wage at Wolverhampton Wanderers baffles me. They weren’t good enough then, and they aren’t now. If they are still the best we have, why is it a surprise we continue to struggle?
And once you have a leaky defence, and a piss poor midfield, you could have Johann Cruyff up front (showing my age here) and he still won’t score cos there will be no service for him to work on.
That, in a nutshell is a summary of our predicament. It’s exactly the same players we were playing with in Division 3. Except for the new recruits, and here is where Paul Lambert has to run his rule very quickly. Are they all really as crap as the old guard from Division 3? I’d like to think not. I know they are not necessarily the players Lambert would have chosen, but I would like to think that Costa, Teixera, Saiss, Bovarsson, Cavaleiro are all a bit better than George freakin Saville and Connor Coady, surely!
So come on Mr Lambert, figure out the new crew and how to get the best out of them. Forget Saville and the Div 3 crew. Start working on a list of 2-3 quality defenders for January, clean out who you dont want, find a new Paul Ince to marshall our midfield, and get Dicko and Bovarsson scoring again.
Step by step. Clean out the trash, bring in some quality and stabilize our team and build some confidence for the championship. You said the relationship with the fans is key … well, you’re going to have to do a lot better than whatever the f*ck that was you did on Saturday if you want to impress us.
I’m not going to cry out for Lambert’s head after 2 games … that would be pathetic. But I expect him to get his act together fast and hold fort until the changing of the guard in January. Plan well … time will be short.
Go Wolves!
i prefer the “you can’t polish a turd” anology … but I agree with your sentiment.
Things is PL had 2 weeks int. break to watch videos, suss out the players in training … and he begins his tenure by shoving players who’ve proved they are not up to the task all of last season.
The mind boggles. What dont we see that he does – or vice versa
This has not been a good start for PL – not just the results, but his setup and his team selection have been piss poor.
I didnt call for Zengas head – we saw some creativity, sublime passing and what has to be said best football ive seen from a Wolves side in a long time – I felt it was too soon, but these two games have been so bad, he has got it so wrong, that I am beginning to doubt this appointment already.
Brilliant GoWolves I’m of the Cruyff generation as well in fact Wolves actually tryed to sign him in late seventies he even visited Molinuex…….. A lass he chose America……..if only sums up Wolves…….if only !
We need a lift and I think 1 major signing could do this Lampard or Gerrard in midfield would do it. If fosun have the money they should get either one on board. Remember the Emelyn Hughes days he took the club forward on his own, and by the way Thelwell out and Redrow signs down and burnt.
Unfortunately Gerrard announced his retirement a few days ago. Frank Lampard, on the other hand, would be a decent signing but I doubt he would be interested in coming to Wolves.
What must Fosun be thinking?
As a youngster I was an okay footballer. I Captained my school teams from the age of 11 to 18, played for the District, played for the County and was even offered a semi-pro contract with Colchester United in 1975. Paul Lambert on the other hand was a million times better. A full international who played professionally for several huge clubs and even won the Champions League. No comparison. He was far better than me.
In later life I was a pretty successful coach/manager in local youth football and in 14 years my teams won 11 league titles and 9 cups. Paul Lambert of course was/is far better than me, managing at the highest level in the professional game and guiding Norwich to promotion to the Premier League. Again no comparison. He was and is a trillion times better than me at this football management malarkey.
It therefore follows that he knows what he is doing and someone like me doesn’t really have a clue. I’m just a supporter and have been for 56 of my so far 60 years. Through thin and thin as I always say.
But here I am on a Monday morning feeling confused nay baffled. More than that I feel depressed and badly let down.
On Saturday I witnessed a horror show. Throughout the game I was messaging Clive in Houston and my eldest son Daryl in Dubai. My pre-match comments about 28,000 and the place buzzing gave way by around 4.25pm to ‘Cold’, ‘Miserable’, ‘Fed up’, ‘I hate football’ and finally ‘I don’t support Wolves anymore’. The last two comments were meant as a joke of course although thinking about it I am getting to the point where that might be the reality. Do I enjoy watching football any more? Do I enjoy watching Wolves play?
I therefore need answers.
I need to understand why it is when your first choice keeper is fit enough to sit on the bench that he isn’t re-instated to the starting line up. Why play the understudy when the first choice is available?
I do understand that defensively Mr Lambert is having to work with the tools at his disposal and unfortunately those tools are not great by any means. Some might say that they are simply tools. However that doesn’t explain why Iorfa was played at right back when he is very clearly to my mind not a full back but a centre back. It doesn’t explain why Doherty continues to play out of position at left back. Why is this Mr Lambert? I need to know so that I can understand.
The midfield was particularly baffling. Why did we play a central midfield three who are all workhorses, runners, holding players? How can you play a central midfield threesome without any flair or creativity? We can all argue as much as we like about the relative merits, or other wise, of Price, Coady and Edwards but none of us I would venture to suggest would ever claim that any of those three are fabulously blessed in the flair or creativity stakes.
The role of Edwards was of particular concern to me. Now I readily admit that Dave isn’t my favourite player for lots of reasons but I accept that on occasions, and certainly of late, he can do a job and you definitely cannot fault his effort or commitment. However in Lambert’s 4231 system Edwards was cast in the ‘number 10’ role just behind the striker. Jackett used to do this as well. Forgive my ignorance here but in what way, what manner, what shape or form and indeed on what planet is Dave Edwards a ‘number 10’? Unless I am as clueless as I now think I must be a ‘number 10’ is a position created specifically for a creative player. Someone with flair and vision. Someone who can pick a pass bisecting the defence, someone who can run at a defence and dribble past players, someone who can curl in a 25 yarder. Edwards is not that kind of player.
The wide players and striker – and here we come to the most baffling of all for me – playing George Saville on the left wing. George Saville. I will say it again as I am still trying to believe it myself. George bloody Saville. On the left wing. A player who is at best of 3rd Division standard and not blessed with any pace is played on the left wing. In a 4231 system which is wholly reliant of speedy wing-play. Played ahead of a £7m record signing – an actual left winger with blistering pace – who has looked one of our few bright sparks in recent weeks when introduced from the bench.
Add to that the decision to stick with Bodvarsson over Dicko. Bodvarsson has been excellent for us this season in my opinion but he clearly looks knackered and somewhat disillusioned. He gets no service and his role seems to be to be there for a high chipped pass which he is expected to win, control and hold up play to bring in others even though no-one is ever within about 25 yards of him. Meanwhile Dicko, one of the very few of the ‘old guard’ who is worth keeping in my view, sits on the bench. Why?
For me it can be summed up by Dave Edwards as captain of Wolves. Dave is 100% committed. Total effort. Never stops running. An ‘engine’ that seems to go on forever. Always tries his best. Happy knack of sometimes popping up in the right place at the right time to glance home a header or bundle the ball home. But, and it is a big but, the captain of my beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers is a man who cannot trap a football or dribble past an opponent or make a great pass or shoot from 25 yards or show any kind of skill as I know it. We are Dave Edwards. We are someone who isn’t very good but tries his best.
So I need answers. Please! I never ever want to see what I witnessed on Saturday ever again.
Allowing for my current mind-set here are my player ratings for Saturday;
Lonergan – not a lot to do really, not sure why he played ahead of Ikeme 6
Iorfa – not good enough, Bambi on ice, no confidence, not a full back 4
Stearman – not good enough, didn’t do much at all really, looked nervous throughout 5
Hause – not good enough, Bambi on ice Mk2, no confidence 5
Doherty – not good enough, out of position, no left foot, no confidence 4
Price – not good enough, constantly caught in possession and gave ball away 4
Coady – not good enough, laboured all game 4
Costa – blessed with pace and skill but seems to be fading now the bad weather has arrived 5
Edwards – not good enough, played out of position, 100% effort 5
Saville – not good enough, no idea why he even gets in the squad let alone the team 3
Bodvarsson – tired, no service, disillusioned, lacking in confidence 4
Total score 49 to give an average per player of 4.45
Stupid old me is going to QPR on Thursday night. God only knows what I will witness and how I will feel as I make my way home from that particular West London hovel of a ground.
Me, who doesn’t know anything at all, would pick this team (assuming all are fit) in a 4231 system;
Ikeme
Doherty Iorfa Stearman Silvio
Saiss Oniangue
Costa Texieira Cavaleiro
Dicko
Subs: Lonergan, Hause, Coady, Ronan, Enobakhare, John, Bodvarsson
Great summary Bedford – encapsulates all my negative thoughts since Saturday’s debacle.
Wish I had had a ticket for the Bonzos like the DooGooder!
I too am cursed with having a ticket for Loftus Road – any idea if I can get a refund?
I like your team, even though you and I know nothing at all.
Oh well, can we get any worse? I suppose the answer is yes, if PL persists with too many of Jackett’s dross. Let’s try and play on the deck football on Thursday for goodness sake!
COYW!
Spot on BW. Nowt to add really.
As we remarked on the depressing drive home after the game how can we put in sterling performances v the likes on Villa, Newcastle, Brentford, Birmingham and then trot out that utter crap on Saturday? Add on performances v Leeds, Wigan, Derby, Barnsley et al and there you have the conundrum that is Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. And the frustration is not helped in any way that those shell suited, pig ignorant, XXXXXL sized cretins from the Handsworth hovel are on the brink of Euro football for Christ’s sake. And don’t I know it with emails/texts from former Black Country “colleagues”. I also see that prick Jack The Hat is back on the Wolves E and S blog after being released from the institution. As on guy put it given half a chance he would dearly love to rub his smug features in a pile of shit. Mind you the pigs could win the Prem, FA cup, Champions League and the Intergalactic trophy but we will never ever be in their shadow like they are in ours.
At time like this I hate the bloody game.
Once we conceded our customary early goal I am afraid it was game over. Sitting right in line with the incident it was a stonewall penalty. I made a note of glancing at Paul Lambert every time a pass went astray or we failed to control the ball or defensive errors were evident and he shook his head in total disbelief at the ineptitude of the squad he has inherited. With you there Paul, along with 28,000 others pal. But we have to give you time to sort the dross out. Best of luck with that me old mukka because at the moment even passing 5 yards to someone in the same colour shirt is beyond their collective competence.
Anyway to Thursday BW, I vowed never ever to set foot inside the hell hole that is Loftus Road after last season. Not having visited for a few years frankly I had quite forgotten that the upper tier of the away end must be the worst stadium in the country for visiting supporters and dammed if I am going to hand over another £30 or so to a football club that cannot provide a decent view for visiting fans. Bloody hell it is far worse than Rochdale in the old fourth division where we spent the second half leaning on the outside toilet wall watching Wolves win 3-0. QP fecking R go to hell. So I ain’t going to the game, I will simply buy some Boddingtons and put my feet up in front of the television.
Anyway I have pencilled in March 18th and Fulham at Craven Cottage when I return from “darn under”. At least in the away section you can actually see both goals.
Hells bells if my calculations are correct – a big if – a Wigan victory tonight by two clear goals and we are in the bottom three. Granted Huddersfield should muller those tossers but similarly Newcastle “should” have hammered Blackburn Rovers!!
I cannot comprehend that another relegation battle stretches out before us over winter. What the hell is the matter at Molineux? If we do down again (perish the thought) will Fosun bale out?
Anyway see you on Friday evening.
BOG
Where you going darn under BOG ?
Hi Twix.
Well it’s our “retirement cruise” originally planned for 2015. We had to cancel this with P and O as I had a total knee replacement. (Bloody football and running marathons).
We embark at Southampton on 2nd January and disembark in Sydney 7 weeks later. We are planning to spend 3 weeks with the Sheila’s and prawn barbies driving around in a campervan taking in Melbourne etc before flying home via Dubai. It’s a one off never to be repeated trip.
I should be back to accompany Bedford Wolf to Fulham on March 18th.
I fervently hope when we get back the team is out of the relegation mire.
All the best
BOG.
And now you tell us you are going to Oz, while we have to suffer that crap in Old Gold and Black.
Ya bastid.
Oz is top of my bucket list but Mrs CFH is still far too young to retire ( someone’s got to work in our household) so we aint going for a while.
Cheeeez, you and Twixfix troggin’ off all over the place.
Not fair.
That sounds impressive mate….I’m sure you will enjoy that ..especially catching the summer “down under”.
It really invigorates the soul to have 2 summers joined together…..as well as avoiding the current football dross.
What is it with you lot in Bedford?
Is there absolutely nothing to do, so you all have to write War and Peace for every blog entry?
Cheeez, y’all need to get out more!!!
Ha ha ha – BW has no excuse as he is still working.
At least I am retired so I have an excuse for writing essays albeit a load of ?
Must be something of a shock for such a shy, quiet and retiring chap who wouldn’t say boo to a goose and is seemingly always lost for words such as your good self.
p.s. I didn’t say much after 4.25pm on Saturday did I.
No, you problee drained yer bat tree!!
Yes but lambert said he’s going to play the same team v rangers on Thursday .
He is not the manager for us . We’re so in the shit !
I agree with you Bedford.
How come Saiss and prince do not play?
We certainly are a better team with them.
Perhaps Lambert cannot speak their language and so he sticks with Coady and Price, both hugely overrated.
What has Saville done that he gets a game ahead of Cavaleiro?
I felt WZ should have been given longer but nipping off to Dubai during International Breaks obviously was not endearing.
Nevertheless, Lambert needs to get his act together or people like myself after decades of ‘distant’ support for Wolves, will start losing interest.
I’d prefer to support a team that loses with some excitement than the absolute drivel witnessed on Saturday.
If Lambert picks another team of Jackett losers and fails to play our best players, (who happen to be foreign), then I shall await the inevitable defeat and will lose interest in getting depressed by following the game.
From what I’ve seen so far wish we had appointed Pearson, at least he’s got some balls.
Totally agree with you Bedford!
It’s amazing how many fans can see the same things, yet the supposed ‘expert’ highly paid managers can’t. As soon as I saw the line-up saturday, I knew we’d lost. The body language from the players was awful too. Saville should be no-where near the team. Coady for me is overrated, he imbalances the team, and doesnt have as much impact on the game as he should. Waste of a position.
I couldn’t believe the substitutions PL made, bringing on attacking players too late, and replacing attacking players. Did he forget we were losing 2-0?
As someone said in the E & S match report comments, forget seeing 27,000 for a long time.
I wasn’t a great WZ fan, but I’d I have him over PL. I don’t like to judge a manager so early, but I’m defo nervous about Lambert. He might not get to xmas with performances like that.
Dad to young son who was misbehaving on Saturday at Molineux. “If you don’t behave I will bring you here again”.
Brilliant Bedders. 🙂 🙂
As I walked away from the ground on Saturday, cold and dispirited, I wondered if it would be OTT to think that the worst Wolves performance I’d ever seen. Having read the opinions of others, I now feel my feelings fully justified. We were awful. All over the pitch. Just dreadful. However, I would disagree with some points made here.
I think blaming Lambert, after two games, is just plain silly. He watches them in training and picks his team from that. With little match experience to draw from and a clean slate for everyone, that’s all he can do. Now if he picks the same eleven on Thursday, that’ll be a different kettle of sushi.
Unlike some, I unfortunately saw no obvious lack of effort in our players. This is, perhaps, all the more worrying. If this was an example of us at full throttle, then January will be both interesting and vital to our chances of remaining in this division. Hopefully, Fosun have given Mr Lambert ‘certain assurances’ regarding the transfer window and our squad for the second half of the season will be radically improved. Boy, it needs to be.
Stearman of course will get the blame for the second goal, but the pass from Iorfa was telegraphed and therefore suicidal, with the Wednesday forward racing in behind Stears before Iorfa even made the pass. Lonergans kicking was, at times, comically bad. Bodvarsson desperately needs help up front.
Either Mr Lambert needs to amend his preferred system to suit the players at his disposal, or roll on January so we can get the right players for the job he wants them to do. Otherwise, on this showing, the unthinkable could become reality.
I’m with you here AGAiN Lupuslover.
People will start to talk.
How can you blame Stearman for that goal? It was a God awful pass from Iorfa. Yes, he was then beaten for pace but some people run a lot faster than others – that’s the way it is.
That’s life baby.
Nothing you can do about it.
A bit like being a Wolves supporter.
You’re lumbered with it.
You know DG, I know you missed the game because you were going to a gig. But there were times on Saturday that I thought it was actually us who were watching the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. It was the only possible explanation.
Never liked Bonzo etc Band and having met Viv Stanshall thought he was a pretentious prick but would have watched BDDD band all night if it had got me out of being at The Mol on Saturday
At least November will be finished before the next game, have we ever won a match in November?
A good point well made Bardwolf.
I hate negativity, I try to leave things a day or so before posting if I think it is counter productive but this was a game not to lose ,
First home game ,
Big crowd
Lots of potential, so pl picks a kj team that we all already know aren’t good enough !
I had bad memories of him bringing on defenders at villa when they were losing!!! I really hope I’m wrong but is this a case of
Johny foreigner not being good at training,
And johny English not being very good at playing Saturday?
Didnt Lambert say the squad was too big? Sounds like sales in Jan not purchases.
I think the only way we’ll sell most of ’em is with a BOGOF deal. You know the thing. Buy Iorfa and get Saville absolutely free. Free with every Coady, one Doherty. Soon thin down the squad that way.
@wolfstroker pmsl.
nobody likes food thats off “there past there sell buy date”
When I heard it was half price tickets for Saturday, I thought there would be a catch. Of course, that’s it. We would only have one team to watch. And it wor us!
Terrible luck for young Nial Ennis.
A second fractured fibula in a year.
He must be absolutely gutted poor lad.
As if we need any more proof that PL is in some strange place other than on Planet Earth. Headlines are, “he is going to watch Walsall vs Sheff United tomorrow to take a look at EBL”.
One foot in the grave springs to mind here.
I don’t believe it.
I don’t feckin believe it.
Who the Hell is advising him on all this shit?
The good old Express & Star said the rot set in some time ago – well for once they were spot on.
KJ said he wanted to build a team full of pace, and play a passing game with movement like Swansea, so he (or somebody there) signs Saville for £1m. Utter waste of money, too slow and lacks mobility, looked good against Rotherham in the first game, and where are they in the table today? they are surely getting relegated. Where were these pacey players then?
Morgan and his asset stripping, selling quality players at this level to save his own wallet, a class midfielder like big Mac, and didn`t replace him. Sells a 30 goal a season striker Afobe, and we get a lightweight from Cardiff – Mason looked good is spells but too weak and lacks pace.
The new owners, surely they should have asked someone at the club, what positions in the team do we need to strengthen immediately, instead of getting in Benfica rejects and other dross. Did they do this and ignored what the staff at the club said? – or just didn`t ask the question.
The two matches Rob Edwards had in charge were a complete shambles, did the owners ask him or Thelwell what players do we need? or are they so arrogant that they thought £10m influx of players is all the club needed. Quantity but no real quality has come in.
Having a cull of players in January is only going to work from a position of strength, who the hell is going to take any of our players of us given the performances on Saturday and in previous weeks.
The new owners may have deep pockets, its a bloody good job they have, and it may be a part solution in Jan. But the manager has to work with this shambles, he`ll need all the luck going, and who can say whether he can do it or not.
As others have said, the midfielders we have are too slow to get forward and support the front men, as our defence needs protection as well. No creativity, no pace, no ability. Over to you Mr Lambert.
Kenny Jackett has resigned from Rotherham.
Is he about to get his old job back?
Only joking Steve.
I see Hackett has resigned from Rotherham – just saying
Predictive preferred Hackett to Jackett
Is that a wind up Stu…?
if EBL comes back I’ll lead the way for PL to be sacked…he makes Stearman look like a wold cup international superstar…
It can’t – can’t be surely.. we can’t replace an uncordinated shufflefoot half back with a clogging side footed misfit like EBL it’s the joke of the century..
PL please note your reputation is on the line
Stearman IS a world cup international superstar………………………
Check it out mate……
http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/wolves-boss-set-to-cast-eyes-over-player-in-action-on-tuesday-night/
Reputation intact then mate. My eyes almost fell out of the sockets. Shirley he ain’t that naive.
Is he?????
There is a thread on Molineux Mix ‘Lambert Out’. Things move fast these days.
Just seen Wigan beat Huddersfield. They look well organised and motivated. Jacobs and Byrne in line up. Very worried.
Surely there’s nothing wrong in Lambert taking a look at EEL as I imagine that he knows little about him and would rather form his own opinion by witnessing him playing first hand. Time to worry might be if he recalls him. Definitely time to worry will be if Saville ever sets foot near the first team again.
The last time Kenny Jackett resigned from a job at Millwall he had another one lined up…
Just saying but what if… Alex Neil gets sacked at Norwich and Moxey gets KJ in…
What if he got them promoted !!!
Its OK folks the Missus as just woke me up…
I was having a right nightmare apparently..
Huddersfield 1 Wigan 2 on Sky.
Wigan deserved the points.
Any idea why we let Jacobs go?
I simply mention this as I asked the same question at the time.
The useless tossers wearing the Wolves shirt are no better that’s for sure.
So we are out of the bottom three by virtue of one goal.
On current form we are by a country mile the worst side in the division excepting Rotherham.
Well done to all those associated with playing, managing, fitness and coaching at this blighted club.
You have succeeded in converting this normally genial individual into a raging and bitter lunatic. (My missus saying this not me).
We are heading for the third tier as it stands AGAIN. That’s right – relegation.
DOES ANYBODY CARE – APART FROM THE FANS THAT IS!! ARE YOU COMATOSED IN THEBOARDROOM?
FOSUN – FUCKING ACT IN JANUARY OTHERWISE YOU CAN SHOVE YOUR SEASON UP YOUR ARSE.
ITS NO IMPROVEMENT THAN UNDER THE TWO FAT TOSSPOTS. GET SHUT OF THELWELL TO START WITH.
Sorry about the rant bloggers but probably like you all Wolves remain a huge part of my life. Yes far, far worse news reaches our ears everyday from around the globe and football pales into total insignificance. But……! I can’t help it guys!
Off to bed – how disappointing is this after the August optimism.
Maybe I should not take Wolves to hear so much. Or – grow out of it. (‘Er indoors).
Or – maybe get a life.
BOG
Rant excused, mate – I feel exactly the same!
UTW!
Thanks bud – no more rants until Friday morning….!
Unless we actually turn up at Lifeless Road and win.
Then I will be sooooooooooooo happy.
BOG
Reasons to be cheerful part 3 – well the wheels have come off while there is still time to get them back on. There will now surely be some sort clear out. The January window is not to far away. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Keep the faith. Good night Mary Ellen.
Ive noticed it still hurts when ones head is banged against the wall….but….the difference between the gloom experienced now and in those shit times before is that we have real money behind us with Fosun and they do not intend to be embarrassed..(tough titty at the mo)
In January we’d better spend our way up the league that’s all..and it’s going to take a big
big spend ..we apparently were good value to buy (cheap) so I’m expecting £50M min to save face….realistic..
Changing the subject a little, having been shafted by an optician, a dentist and the feckin taxman all in one friggin week and with what I witnessed on the pitch on Saturday I feel that it’s time to take a stand and kickback.
Feck it why not. The whole world seems to be against me and my fellow Wolves fans.
Story 1……
I went to visit the Mother in Law today in her care home where she has advanced, raging dementia. On arrival my lovely Jen de Wolf and I were greeted by the sight of an optician’s assistant fitting my M I L out with two pair of new glasses, one pair for distance and the other pair for reading.
Nothing Feckin strange there Stuey boy, apart from the fact she is registered Feckin blind. We, the punters of this great nation of ours are forking out £200 notes for said specs. Feckin robbin bastards, we sat there listening to this thieving fraudulent woman explaining it would take two or three days for them to kick in, then he presto the M I L would see again.
We put the glasses on her and asked her to tell us what she could see, she said a picture on the wall but she couldn’t make out what it was about. Well that Feckin picture was a 42″ TV that was actually on. The other pair, we showed her a book with massive font and asked her to tell us what she saw, she couldn’t even see the book from 4″ away.
Story 2…..
Last week Jen de Wolf had toothache and went to our regular dentist. He informed her the tooth filling was shot and that on her next visit he would drill it out, put a plug in and screw a new tooth in. All for the princely sum of £400 notes. On Friday the tooth got worse so she popped back to get it sorted, her regular guy was away but the senior partner had a look. He found a gum infection, gave her a prescription for Amoxicillin which probably cost £3 maximum. Robbin feckin Bastards again, £400 to £3 is a bit of a saving.
Story 3……..
5 years ago I took early retirement after having done all I wanted to and planned time with Jen de Wolf and since then I have lived off my Graduated (NHS) Pension. I hit 65 on Oct 1st and so 2 weeks ago I recieved my first State pension. Last week I had a really nice letter from the tax man saying as I was now getting both my State pension and my private one I was getting more than my personal allowance. So, they are now taxing me an Extra £168 a Month. To say I am rather underwhelmed is an understatement , having paid my tax on my pension and wages all my life I was not expecting that kick in the botox.
So onto Story 4……..
With a chance to get some sort of recompense, retribution, payback or my share of wonga from this corrupt World of ours I intend letting the cat out of the bag and I am going to the West Midlands Police to lodge a claim against Nobby the gateman on the Northbank turnstiles, I’m positive he’s the slimy pawed toad that used to Roger me in the changing room back in the 60’s along with all the young Wolves players and visitors like myself. I told that Bill McGarry but was he interested? No, didn’t want to know he just fobbed me off to that fuzzy haired bloke Geoff Palmer cause I knew his brother Roger, that’s twice, he Rogered me too.
Well you may think I’m exaggerating a little here, but Feck you, Iv’e been sniffing beer mats and smoking kippers to try and supress the memories but it has affected me badly. At this stage I have to point out, It is still going on, every match I go to the gate and get my Season ticket out and Feck me in broad daylight that feckin Nobby makes me spread my legs and his hands are all over my like measels. I’m not kidding here, if you don’t believe me turn up against Fulham and watch me, he’s a twat and he’s blatantly grope, grope, groping me. If that’s not bad enough, I go up the stairs in the Northbank and when I go for a drink or pie they shaft me. When I take my seat I have to sit through 90 minutes of abuse as when the team comes out I’m sure they are suffering at the hands of someone from the Wolves backroom staff as they are all limpwristed and look well sha*#ed.
Reading now that PL is stalking that EBL with a view to using him to shore up his rear is rather worrying, judging by all the comments on this site since Saturday, a lot of fans are also suffering at the Molineux, so lets kick back. Where there’s blame, there’s a claim.
Whoever is responsible for this crap we are enduring…..
HANDS OFF our team.
And Nobby,
Get yer HANDS OFF our fans.
Excellent Stu- cheered me up before I get the morning rag and summon up the guts to look at the league table.
I can certainly identify with your Story 3 Stu.
The government pay thousands of pounds to lazy spongers who have no intention of working and tax the poor suckers who have worked all their lives and paid their dues many times over.
The Beatles had it right back in the 60s.
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
Cos I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me
Taxman!
The world is shit mate. I have just received a quite tidy bonus from the firm I work for. I felt really chuffed as I have only been in this new post since January and the bonus was quite substantial which made me feel that the work I have put in has been recognised. Thank you to my firm. Then ………….. the feking barsteward, robin, tax twats come on the scene and take away a third of it!!!!!
That coupled with a letter I got yesterday stating that my military pension and my current income is way over what they “estimated” and that I have underpaid a large amount of tax and that they are taking it back – through my tax code though.
So ………. My company thank me for my commitment, and the tax people say “Feck off” you earn too much so you aint getting it – Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..
I might just retire.
Watching Wolves amounts to the same …….. Taxing.
Well done Stu, ay least it brought a smile to me after that dross last Saturday.
Btw exactly the same happened to me as in your Story 3 – underwhelmed indeed!
UTW!
You been drinking the same ” I must write a book” pills as that lot in Bedford??!!
I retired 4 years ago with Fuck All and now I’ve got even less…..
Is is possible to have a negative interest rate …YES ..cuz I’ve got mine in one …..
Still I wake up every morning and thank the Lord I’m here for another day…. even on Saturdays when I can see my beloved WOOLIES…..
Life’s a bitch Stu…then you marry one (yours excluded) then you die..
The positive thoughts of a Wolves fan..
Nearly right Steve.
First you marry one, then you divorce and she takes all your money, then you die.
Divorce can be nasty. Always remember, that whilst together you will both be happy dining on beans on toast, but when you divorce She will want steak.
Yeah …through the heart..!!
And if you are really, really stupid, like me, you will not only divorce, you will marry again, and again and again until you get it right, finally, you hope!!
Fourth time lucky.
It’s amazing, this EEL thing. I can’t believe PL is bothering to go take a look at him playing a competitive match. He’s only got to read this blog to see how crap he is.
Yes yes, I hear you all say. Sheff Utd are desperate to keep him, at least for the rest of the season or preferably permanently. But what do they know? They only see the youngster play every week in their first team in a league we could be in ourselves if things don’t improve.
Ridiculous.
Sadly im wishing for Jackett back again, even though we stayed in one spot it was better than scraping at the bottom of the barrel.
Just when you think it can’t get any worse I read somewhere yesterday that Lambert wants to bring back James Henry.
What,as Wolves fans, have we done to deserve all this gloom, doom & despondency?
Aren’t we owed a bit of happiness after all we’ve suffered?
Out of darkness cometh relegation (again).
The scary thing is that we’re level on points and goals with bottom-three Wigan! And, Wigan looked streets ahead of us in beating Huddersfield last night.
Kenny has now “done a Millwall” at Rotherham (leaving a relegation-bound Championship club). What’s his next job? MM’s at Ipswich? Ian Holloway’s assistant at QPR? Could he even be coming back to Wolves? Anything is possible.
Was Paul Lambert’s previous success at Norwich a never-to-be-repeated flash in the pan?
I have no idea, but I hope not.
Oh please. He’s had two games and no transfer windows. Bit premature don’t you think?
Condolences to the families of the Brazilian footballers etc killed in Columbia today.
On a brighter note, it seems prick Pulis has got to pay back a lot of money to Crystal Palace as he’s been found guilty of being a lying, cheating rat.
Goes without saying he will keep his current job though, as he fits right in down there among the bottom dwellers!!
FOwb
Looks like he could have to pay back up to £5 million!!!
Oh Dear! What a pity!
Never mind!
The greed of these people beggars belief.
More bull shit from Edwards in local rag. Sick to death of the broken promises ” we love playing for Wolves ” bollocks here another one ” it’s a privilege to play for Wolves ” to fucking right it is Dave………wel here’s a thought START FUCKIN SHOWING IT were it matter, you know the big green field with White lines painted up and down and across it.
Well said Paul.
Used to be an old adage:
“Actions speak louder than words.”
Maybe Dave Edwards and the rest of the Wolves F.C. should remember this.
Perfectly put, Paul.
I think Lambert has gone to Sheffield to look at Leon Clarke.
Well, we do need a highly rated goalscorer, dont we??!!
Just got back um from the Damned 40th. Not only quality punk rock but a lesson in working class passion. How not to be UKIP and racist fucking wankers
Nice to know but what’s that got to do with the Wolves,Cheesy???
Nice to know but what’s that got to do with the Wolves,Cheesy???
Must visit the opticians, I’m seeing double (definitely nothing to do with the Wolves)!
You’ll be lucky to get an appointment at the opticians.
Plenty of football referees ahead of you. Hopefully.
Reading this blog has become like watching Wolves, depressing. Life is imitating football.
Even the deepest wounds heal over time.
It’s been a few days now. Has anybody got anything positive to say? Any early Christmas wishes? There is always the FA Cup.
Which came first, destructive criticism or the club’s self-destruction?
Altogether now sing me to sleep until January 2017,
“Always look on the bright side of life”
