It must have been within seconds of the fifth goal flying in when that unfathomable thought entered my mind.
The brilliant South Bank in full song, the players in brief remission and some glorious gallows humour to numb the last remaining dol of pain left.
‘I am having my season ticket again,’ I declared.
The cathartic change in emotion as we capitulated to our third consecutive Sky Sports thrashing is what our CEO might describe as the ‘Wolves DNA’ kicking in.
It is only ironic that Jez Moxey’s definition of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ gene pool is the very antithesis of every indefatigable Wolves fan stood singing in the Jack Harris.

Like the subsiding levels of bile in those South Bankers’ tummies, there are similarly few bland platitudes left to do justice to this entire debacle anymore.
There is barely any ink left in Tim Nash’s biro for a start, let alone pages in his shorthand book.
In this unprecedented season of sin, the notion of aspiration was replaced with pragmatism months ago.
We can barely stomach any resistance to our tragically preventable decline to the depths of despair, so we are left with our chromosomes, a good old sense of humour and eachother.
The days of berating our chief executive’s salary defying amateurism, our owner’s twisted rationale and our manager’s weak submission can wait for another day.
Until that day, we will continue to shuffle into Molineux in much the same manner we did back in November with the ever sobering thought that our team is a lost cause.
We will watch Stephen Ward make the same mistakes that Steve Coppell gleefully exploited with Jimmy Kebe four years ago, witness incompetent defending from set pieces and groan at a flagrant disregard of the very notion of ‘possession’ in between.
When quicker, more athletic players like Danny Wellbeck sidefoots home a third goal before half time, we will shrug our shoulders in much the same way as our error-prone goalkeeper did at the time.
And when Ronald Zubar assumes clown like proportions befitting of our comedy club to get sent off, we won’t even bother arguing that it would have made a difference.
Any in-depth analysis of a passage of play – let alone the game itself – is as pointless as a ‘Scouse Mafia’ banner in the grand scheme of things.
Wolves have become a laughable rudderless ship, complete with the leadership skills of Francesco Schettino.
But when our battered wreck is pulled from the depths of the Premier League in time for more familiar voyages back to N-Power, one look at those weathered, wonderful souls in the South Bank will be enough to satisfy a numpty’s DNA like mine.

Maybe it is cus i iz a bit fick, but i day understand the above. Some really big words n stuff
It’s official – Wolves are holding the “flamme rouge” .
Recruit Fiona Bruce in the summer and the nightmare’ll be complete…………..
Acceptance of going down now. Enjoy the rest of the ride, nothing can hurt us anymore. We are Wolves
I believe the chant “We’re going down, but having a laugh” is quite apt…
The fans, especially in south bank, were brilliant. Mates who watched it on the TV said it sounded good. Feelin very shitty at the moment. Hopefully morgan and moxey are finally realising the complete fuck ups they have made and maybe they are the numpties and not the fans.
Great stuff as usual Ben. Sums the whole mess up beautifully.
Was Moxey actually there today. Didn’t see him on the box. Or was he watching netball again?
The noise of the Wolves fans was amazing and proved that, contrary to what some would like to suggest, the supporters at least are premiership class.
‘Cokneys, cockneys give us a wave.’ Magic.
As for the football, well what’s the point even talking about it.
Thanks Martin. I ain’t blogged in yonks so i forgot how nice it feels to get a positive comment from your good self. My Wolves Blog DNA kicking in as well it seems!
Acceptance of going down now. Enjoy the rest of the ride, nothing can hurt us anymore. We are Wolves!
We were always going to get a kicking today… That much was for sure. The argument remains however how we perform on and off the pitch, and as a club the platitudes from supporters about enjoying the remainder of the season along with sitting back and enjoying the rest of the ride are the stuff of absolute nonsense in my humble opinion and the kind of rhetoric the club and its management are banking on to ensure bums on seats for the remainder of the season and well into the fizzy pop league next year.
We are a pathetic shambles of a wreck, a once great club reduced to shuffling around like some pensioner attempting to live on former glories whilst uttering “wim a big club, wim a big club” over and over again.
The Owner along with the Chief Executive have seen fit to reduce this club to the condition it’s in – either through their own stupidity or non understanding of the position we appear to be in, or even a dangerous mixture of both which is even more disconcerting.
To sit back and accept the conditions based on the fact that we are Wolves and we can enjoy the rest of the season simply plays into these donuts hands.
The embarrassment of what Morgan & Moxey have managed to thrust upon this great club of mine over the past couple of seasons or so, and especially this season have made me sad to say I’m a Wolves fan – something I never thought I’d say!
Brilliantly put mate i am with you 100%
Well said m8 my sentiments exactly,This club was knocking on the door last season but what
did Morgan&poxey do, employ 1 player to plug the gap and what a waste of money he was.
So for me Morgan-moxey & McIdiot have taken this club to the abyss of this league.
Great post, sums the situation up superbly.
“…as a club the platitudes from supporters about enjoying the remainder of the season along with sitting back and enjoying the rest of the ride are the stuff of absolute nonsense in my humble opinion and the kind of rhetoric the club and its management are banking on to ensure bums on seats for the remainder of the season and well into the fizzy pop league next year.”
Well said that man.
Brilliant piece by Ben, all of it bang on the money. The pressure is now off we are not a premiership side this season, and in his last few games maybe TC can try something different. If Wolves stay up now after this poorest of runs and seasons then there are such things as miracles & Richard Dawkins was wrong all along, there is a God.
Thanks Allen, nice to read! Can’t see TC trying much different though. Swapping the Lucozade for Gatorade maybe?!
I’m not sure we’re going down. We looked solid previous to Zubar’s red card and Davis injury.
Their first goal was cheap I agree, but the match could have looked different and today no manager in the world could have saved us.
Davis looks class and Davis, Foley and Edwards looked really compact in the midfield before the above mentioned tragedies. I hope Davis will be ready for the next game, and that we dont make too many changes for the next match. I think the Connor team is shaping up. And the next 3 matches will be crucial.
Up the wolves
Davis has said on twitter that his ribs are broken – if that’s true then unfortunately we won’t have him for Norwich…
This is the funniest post I’ve seen for some time.
We looked solid yes…Davis is out….but, our main problem is WE JUST CANNOT SCORE…..feeble attempts, half chances, no creativity. That has been our downfall my friend. We just have no attack. We conceded so many goals from attacking positions this season ..why? because we just stop , think, look and dont know what we have to do once we have the ball…except giving it to jarvo ( or hennessey) and as the song goes….Come what may !
yep and ManU were strolling about in second gear
You are admirably optimistic, but we just looked so poor in the last two home games that all hope of staying up does seem pretty much washed up on the Molineux narrow pitch! Shame the new North Bank is Premiership class so are the fans & the attendances which beat most of the other clubs like Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, i.e those around us in the lower half of the table.
What I meant by trying something different Ben was that maybe he could bring back RJ, put SEB with Fletcher, surely that is more potent than Doyle & Fletcher at the moment. The midfield injuries are the worry though. Like to have Henry, O’Hara, & Milijas back, shame Davis is injured as well, but at times he did look vulnerable losing the ball in key areas. Looks like Foley will have to shoulder the midfield burden with Stearman going to right back again with Zubar out for a game at least I assume.
It is not rosy though is it?
The fans today’s the only reason I’m not seriously bummed out by the performance and the result – brilliant! We should be proud of that at least – we may be going down but that’s great support right there!
On paper we still have a chance to stay up (three points between us and B’burn) but realistically, it doesn’t look good… well, you never know – if we can beat Norwich, then maybe…
It’s a big ‘if’ though!
I know it was great the south bank sparked a bit of humour and i do commend them for the
lightheartedness of how they received the football bollocking but i could’nt i may be a bit staid
seeing our team getting beat even though it was Man U, just another crap performance headless chickens running around on a field,it just seems to me we have given up and lost all hope of survival when ALL the other clubs around us are STILL fighting for every ball, why i ask
my self what is it, are they thinking of their summer hols and when we go down i’ll get me another club so i’m alright jack and f..k you.
What i’d like to see NOW is TC get sacked and bring in someone in ready for next season and
take a long hard look at what player’s we’ve got and who’s up for the fight.
The sooner that happen’s the better i will feel.FOJM,TC.
Johnok I coundn’t agree more..
Whoever is going to be managing us next season in the championship needs to be there now… Its not conner, he should have gone with Mick, he has been part of the problem for 3 years not a solution.
A new Manager needs as much time as we can give him to mount a challenge next season, what’s the point in waiting until the summer?
The humour is great from the fans. But this club is now a laughing stock thanks to Morgan and Moxey.
Who the hell cares about what Morgan is doing for the schools and the community. This is a football club ! or was, not a bloody charity. Let the council sort that S**T out that’s what we pay them for.
We pay Wolves to play Football, Nothing more.
If we don’t get next seasons manager in now we may struggle in the championship..
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
what the —- is going on upstairs? i wish m+m would grow some and make a change before we dissapear ……..something seriously wrong if they really think the right man is at the helm!!if we go down i fear we may go down again..or is it all part of the cunning plan????just tell the fans what the hell you are doing and why!!!!!!!!!!!! GUTTED..
well said..something seriously wrong ..way beyond the poor performances..
Just back from the mauling and hearing our magnificent fans.
Moron and Greaseball MUST act now and try to salvage something from this woeful season.
Clipboard cannot carry on we need some tactical nous. Who can instill some pride.
The injury and the booking ruined the day for us today – you are blind if you not see that. It was NOT something Connor could have influenced. Things are turning around – wait and see. 3 crucial games against teams we are capable beating follows.
No I am not blind-but do you really believe Clipboard can turn things round?
I will be at Norwich-where if we play like we have been doing we will get another hammering.
They are quick can pass and score-Think old goldy is right.
Blind? Are you serious?
We were behind before Zubar got himself sent off. We were behind due to Incredibly poor defending – something we have seen all season AND the two seasons before. That is the responsibility of Connor. He has worked with the team for years. But to me, it doesn’t look like they practise it during training. Defensively we are woeful and have been so for years.
And add to that that Zubar looked totally at sea today. Caught out of position, making rash tackles all over the pitch and in general looked like he had left his brains the dressing room, you can also criticise Connor for not taking him off before he managed to do so himself. Zubar doesn’t deserve another game in a Wolves shirt after today. He let everyone down. Not only can’t he defend. You simply can’t trust him.
Further, Connor sent out Guedioura on loan. How much do we miss him now? And to blame an injury to a 21 year old who got his debut only last week for our demise today is simply not credible. I just wonder who else we have running around in the youth team who can make a real difference. What about Zeli? Doyle on the wing doesn’t work and Kites is absolutely shite.
We are sinking into the division from hell. Fast.
I Zubar was one of our best players in my opinion before he was sent of. He has a problem and that is he’s too hot headed. Just throws himself into tacklings and all kind of situations and gets himself booked or injured. He almost always runs past his man. His crossings lacks quality, but we should remember he hasn’t played too many games since he returned from injury.
Doyle is kind actually supplement Zubar quite well. When Zubar plays as a wing back Doyle can move into the centre. Our defence did actually play well before the injury and substitution. One mistake on a corner that’s all. And the midfield managed to block shots from Man U.
I hope Zeli could get his chance, But O’Hara should be on his way back, and it’s not long before Henry returns either. Foley played really well in the middle today – played very confident. With only Jonsson and Edwards in the middle we were too weak.
I believe our next 3 matches will determine our fate. If we gets a couple of wins in those matches we will have a fair chance
Well, Karlir, I think we have to agree to disagree on the team and the game today 🙂
Nearly all the players you put forward as good, I think were absolutely rubbish.
But the fact is that we have lost 8 of the last 9 home games and won only 1 of the last 15, we have conceded 19 goals in 4 while only managing to score 3. And the team have fallen apart in 3 out of the last 5 – something that has never happened before during the reign of Mick McCarthy.
I have a hard time finding any positives anywhere.
19 goals in 5 obviuosly
The fact you thought Zubar was our best player IS the problem. He was and always will be a liability and an extremely poor right back.
I know we are a laughing stock already, but could we make a change of manager to lift the club from the lowest ive seen it for a long time. One more moan is thanks lads im getting so much stick from living in manchester
I was in a pub in a village outside Huddersfield (Yorkshire – not known for their love of Lancashire are they) you’d think you’d be safe in their as they look enviously on at the reds, wishing that someone with Yorkshire pride could get somewhere near their level. No such luck, full of tw**ts from Yorkshire supporting Manchester United – I can’t even offer them the excuse of being young.
I was proud of our fans today, hopefully its reminded a few people what great support we have.
All we can hope is that the team, coaches and management relax a bit now and we go and play with some freedom.
Are you out of your mind! We’ve just hired Connor!
Nice one Ben,
The word that you use that somes it up for me – rudderless.
I expected it today but it just doesn’t make it feel any better does it?
I was laughing at some of the South Bank songs but as time went on it gradually sunk in, the laugh is well and truly on us.
I won’t be renewing next season. It’s simply a life choice and I probably wouldn’t have even if we would have had a half decent season. I’ll miss it for the time being but I can honestly say, this season has been as poor as I can remember. I’ve probably renewed after worse but I’ve felt the pain this season mainly through the (if it’s a word) rudderlessness.
Anyone know the figures on the uptake of the early birds btw?
Someone at the ground said that 9,000 had taken up early bird.
If it is 9k it’s more than I thought it would be. Cheers Alf.
Oh dear Alf, Moxey will have to think on his feet to spin that one! He’ll probably asset strip galore in the summer (having said all season that we arent run like Pompey so would never need to) and blame the fans for Not buying into his long term vision.
Having blamed the fans, after previously blaming a Portsmouth landlady for screening live TV, he should be sufficiently vindicated and his arse sufficiently covered.
Cheers mate. I just felt an uplifting feeling today amid the scenes on the pitch…that in spite of Jez Moxeys arrogance, spin, and 1m + salary, Morgan’s fatal naivete and the team’s dire straits, we will always be here, long after obsenely paid chief officers have left.
I know that sounds a bit twee and obvious, but I did get that sense today.
And I haven’t told my wife ill be buying the ticket either!
Perhaps we are numpties after we have helped pull all the wheels off we start pushing.
I think we are going down just shame we couldn’t get behind the lads like we did today all season .why do fans love Zubar ? Hes average at best .just another mo camara in my eyes.
How many of our players can run past players and cross like he does? Jarvis, the one and only.
He’s strong, fast and enthusiastic, but a bit too hot headed.
I cannot remember such a poor run but despite the humiliation of yet another 5 goal slapping 2 things stuck out for me today; the support of the crowd, led by the brilliant South Bank, and the players didn’t give up. Davis was excellent, Jarvis had a go, Doyle was everywhere. We have little chance of staying up; I hope we do but my head tells me our season is over. However I still have great memories of games in the championship. Perhaps a season or 2 in the second tier, a chance to rebuild and lessons learnt by all including management, players and fans ( we contributed to the Swansea 2 all draw and not entirely positively ) is just what we all need. It’s not the end of the world. What’s important is that we keep supporting the team no matter what. UTW
“Sit back, accept the inevitable and enjoy the rest of the ride” I read above; I for one work too hard to waste my income watching more of the same for the rest of the season. ‘Enjoy’ is a strange word to choose as it has been months since I have honestly ‘enjoyed’ my day out at the Molineux. We haven’t even had a giant killing match to savour this season. Its a poor team, poorly managed and it is impossible to ‘enjoy’ a match with so many unforced errors and soft goals. ‘We shall not be moved’ it said on our flags against Doncaster, it also said ‘We are Premier League’; fortunately for the club ‘we have not moved’ but unfortunately for the fans ‘We are not Premier league’.
Unless the 2 M’s sort it out, the final match against Wigan will be meaningless as we will both have been relegated by then.
I remember another quote Ledbury: Mick mccarthy saying 3 years ago: ‘Just because we are a Premiership club does not make us a Premiership team.’
Watching hopeless, one paced substandard shit like today brings Micks words back into view.
He never said a more poignant word in his tenure and his inability to address that one sentence is one of the reasons we are in this dire predicament.
You used that quote back when we beat Fulham 2-0…
Good times, those…
ben i totally agree mate its just that i really fear for the club if we drop as something is wrong and i dont know what..you can say its the inability to pay better wages but i think its so much deeper…really poor p.r. and they wonder why the fans turned against everyone!! its due to a lack of information fed back down to the fans…..and poor leadership at the top!
get some1 in now just adifferent voice just to motivate them ,just go down with sum pride ,mass mass clearout needed, moxey out, sorry but terry you been in her to long, get sum football people in ,some 1 with sum brains ,the whole structure of the club needs changin, how many more kids are ready to play like davis, have we got waitin.we are relegated now dont even think 4 1 minute wel do it,the warning signs were ther e after qpr home game the whole club stinks of relegation and the plyers know it aswell idont think well get another [point this season ,hopefully this is hurting morgan as much it is the fans
Wim guwin dowun!

Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
if we want to give ourselves any kind of chance we need to get someone in, like Bruce or dare I say it, Megson. That said maybe we should just enjoy these last few games and get ready for the Championship. I have a feeling we will try and get Hughton, just as long as Birmingham don’t go up.
Stearman and Jarvis were our only decent performers I felt, some played okay in spells like Kightly, Doyle and Davis.
Megson?? Careful Louie. I’m not sure there is any manager in England that has been sacked more often. We need to be reinvigorated as a club, Megson sucks the life out of everything around him, he’s axactly what we don’t need!
He’s a footballing Dementor
Morgan and Moxey might be clever business people.
But why the hell are they involved in football.
Why are they both so THICK when it comes to footballing matters…??
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
So its Morgan out is it ? Who exactly does he sell the club to ? Which multi millionaire Wolves fanatic is waiting to buy us ? Do you remember the early eighties under the Bhattis ?
Yes I do remember the Bhattis very well…
Aren’t we now going the same way…… !!
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
There are no more points as long as Connor is in charge..
He was part of the problem not a solution.
He should have gone with Mick…
The problem is no one wants to manage us…
After a meeting with Morgan, managers run for their lives. He is clearly stating his vision of Building a stadium to house 50000 but having a team of league 1 players.
the whole thing is a complete mess because Morgan does not understand how much it takes to keep a team in the premier league.
The only person who appears to want it is Bruce.
Thats only because he is desperate cos he needs to feed his Wiskey habit…
And you are rerferring back to the Bhattis…… Things are worse now!!!
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
Just watching us on match of the day. So embarrassing. Basic schoolboy mistakes, time after time. Our defensive play as a team is disgraceful. If morgan persists in keeping connor, please bring in a defensive specialist coach to work alongside him. Or, remember when robson was struggling at boro, they bought in venables for the last few games and boro survived. If they do not do something different, we will not get another point.
Totally agree. There are no more points as long as Connor is in charge..
He was part of the problem not a solution.
He should have gone with Mick…

I’ve got to ask since no-one else has. Who the fuck is Francesco Schettino ?
Captain on the cruise ship that ran aground in Italy earlier this year.
Thankyou Clemens.
Yeah-who is this bloke?
Leicester City have a owner worth more than Morgan, and they can’t get near the premier league.
Why do we think we are any better. ??
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
I sat there today thinking that for Wolves this is no longer the Premier League, merely a pantomime, with our role as pantomime dame…
Please let it be over.
“Liked”. Yes, very well put. A pantomime. Big Bad Wolves 0 – 5 Little Red Riding Hoods.
Except that instead of shouting “Behind you!”, I was shouting “In behind you!” at Ward as Valencia skinned him time and again.
Another dismal performance.
Bassong wasn’t that bad…..
Ward is utter tripe.
God, the whole mess of Wolves in the 80’s, seems to be rising its ugly head again.
The worst part of the season for me was the indecisiveness of picking a manager.
It was theatre of the absurd, with a horror story of an ending, when Terry Connor was picked.
Morgan and Moxey must be thick, plain stupid and have no concern for the club at all, to have allowed this to happen.
It is a slap in the face of all Wolves fans our farcical board.
Btw Ben, good blog and Wolves DNA until i die!
Robin could I ask you to agree to… “True Wolves Fans DNA” otherwise for me it’s reading .. “Moxey’s running of the club DNA”
Forgottwix renewing if he remembers!
Scooped .. I said I’m Sorry .. what else do you want me to do .. give to Moxey’s bonus?
I don’t think I have ever experienced anything quite as humiliating as our current predicament in my forty years supporting Wolves.
I don’t know what to say anymore. Words elude me.
If Terry Connor says one more time he can turn this around I am going to scream. Even he cannot possibly be such an egotistical moron to think fans cannot see him for what he really is: inexperienced, incompetent and out of his depth. If he has any love and respect for this football club he would resign now and leave Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Morgan has destroyed 5+ years of hard slog and work by Mick McCarthy and set us back to square one. We are getting spanked for 5 on a regular basis and now have a worse record than we did in 2003.
How did we end up here? This was supposed to be the season we built some strength and moved up after last year, and instead we are worse to the point I’m not sure we would even be mid-table in the Championship.
How could you have let this happen Mr Morgan? How did you let us down so badly? Where are your promises of top 10 finishes now? Aren’t you even in the slightest embarrassed?
I’m humiliated!
McCarthy is more to blame than Morgan. This is his team, his players and he was sacked after we lost 5-1 at home to a bottom half of the table team.
Many people made mistakes along the way, and I’m sure MM made his share. But to me, sacking MM so late in the season and then failing to appoint someone *BETTER* was a mistake of irrecoverable and colossal proportions. And Morgan made that one. Plain and simple.
I will NEVER accept TC as Wolves manager. To me he was not a managerial appointment, but a lack of one. This is the point a lot of people are missing. TC was already there when MM was there. The whole pretence of appointing TC as manager is just smoke and mirrors that many unfortunately are falling for. Our current situation is just the same exact one we had previously, but minus MM (minus some discipline, minus experience, minus leadership). It’s no different than just saying there will be no new manager at Wolves and TC will be acting until then.
I said it from the moment I heard TC will be in charge, and I still think the same way: We will not win another game in the EPL until the end of the season with TC in charge. His failure will be profound.
Mr Morgan gifted the other relegation contenders by booking the bottom berth on the relegation Titanic. Wigan, Bolton, BBurn and Rangers must be dancing a jig for the extra chance we have given one of them to survive.
Morgan did that. Not MM. He did it all by himself.
He should be man enough to admit it now. And tell us how he is going to fix it.
A lot of truth in what you wrote Gowolves,i was one of the mm out brigade, but never in
a million years did i ever think TC would be in charge.
still think with mm in charge we would of still gone down, but i think mm would have
made a better fist of it in hindsight.FOJM.TC.
Agreed, MM should have gone before xmas if they were going to pull the trigger. Give the new man even the chance to bring in fresh blood and the players to pay his new style. After January the club should have stuck with MM to the end of the season. Now we have MM light TC, light of personality, light of motivation, light of tactical nous and most importantly and unforgivably light of experience.
JM Out TC Out
Great blog Ben!
The real pity for me is seeing this coming all season.
The first couple of games where we’d played well were a huge false dawn, I think everyone can see that now.
It then became quickly apparent that we’d bought badly and hadn’t progressed as a team. Frankly we were very lucky to stay up last season, so you would think that everyone at the club would take action to avoid this again, but it wasn’t to be.
Now that Mick has gone we are merrily laying into Morgan and Moxey, but I think all of them are guilty.
Mick bought badly – the fact that Nenad Milijas is being hailed by many as being our ‘best foreign player ever’ demonstrates this perfectly. I have nothing against him, but he hasn’t even played half the time so he’s not exactly a Cantona is he?
But who funded Mick’s purchases? The management.
Couldn’t they see, or did they even care, that the type of players that Mick was buying over and over again just weren’t capable of the creativity and flair that’s needed in the Prem?
Half of them we bought then sold off, probably at a loss or are currently out on loan. What a WASTE of money.
Did the management, at the end of last season, demand better this season? Why did they not ask questions and continue to back Mick until after bloody January?
Why did they not see that he was playing players out of position?
The fact that TC won’t play Johnson shows that even he probably didn’t agree with Mick’s selections, so why was this never voiced?
Urgh…there are just so many things that are wrong, it’s really sad.
The ‘whys’ of this travesty may never be answered (certainly not by Moxey), but my one grain of comfort is that a great portion of Mick’s successful Championship team will perhaps be intact after we go down.
Let’s assume Johnson, O’Hara, Doyle, Milijas and Fletcher go. I’m not sure if there would be buyers for any of the others to be honest (and Johnson leaving is wishful thinking for me, as he is VERY shit).
So you’ve still got a team that used to be able to compete well in the Championship. SEB will be pleased, ‘cos he may be able to play and score goals again soon!
So what odds on a quick return to the promised land?
Oh, I forgot to mention the game…and I’m not going to bother at length. We were dire, as usual. Bad times.
Excellent comment Ade. Don’t get me wrong though, I despise SM and JM, but I’m not sure it’s for the CEO to tell MM that he’s playing player ‘x’ out of his best position without him micro-managing the team to too large an extent. I would agree though that the board should surely have raised alarm bells about the end product (results) much earlier than they apparently did. MM (and TC) should have been gone before Christmas.
Also, I can’t blame the board about not vetoing any signings MM made. I thought many of MM’s signings were pretty good at the time they were made. The larger problem has seemed to be that the signed players under-perform (Johnson), or lose pace (Hunt), or form (O’Hara), or everything (Guedioura), after a few weeks/months at the club. This suggests poor management and coaching within our own ranks.
I reckon Hennessey, Fletcher and Jarvis will be wanted by other clubs when we go down (no ‘ifs’ about it now). Doyle and Milijas, not so much, but they might want to jump from the ship anyway.
I know little of the current Championship teams, but unless we get somebody new at the helm, I reckon we’ll finish in the bottom half of that league next year.
If we keep the majority of the squad, and get a half decent manager (Connor won’t be manager next season) we will be play offs atleast. Get Hughton in and we’d win it.
my friend….the most we will manage in the championship is mid table obscurity. But…we will have the new stand…..empty….like probably the feeling of every Wolves fan at the moment…..and….dont know if its true….but, they are dishing out a free hospital check up appointment with every season ticket. We surely need it.
Hey mate, are you going to the 7s this weekend?
I am, but either way if you’re out do you want to meet up for a beer in LKF or wan chai?
Ade! Thanks for the invite. I’m not at the Sevens, but could meet up for a beer. How could we get in touch though? (I don’t really want to dish out my phone number or email address here – it might later get swamped by sh!t fans). Maybe Thomas or Ben (if they read this) can PM you with my email address …?
Hey, well it promises to be carnage – I’ll be in with the fancy dress lot, so I have no idea what state I’ll be in (and will probably look like an idiot), but a beer would be good!
Thomas has my email address, but you can send me a PM on facebook – just search for ‘Adrian James Leighton,’ you’ll see my profile pic is me and the wife.
I’ll be in HK Friday night, Saturday & I’ll be coming back to Shenzhen on Sunday night – so we have plenty of time to meet if you like.
Wolves blog…connecting people
Ade just to counter your point the majority of McCarthy’s signings made sense when we bought them. Unfortunately, he was restricted to the bargain bucket by JM and so the majority of the signings were gambles. Some paid off like Doyle and Fletcher, some were ok in short stints O’hara, Guedd and Milijas and some flopped Van Damme and Johnson. As for the bizarre loans I have a sneaking suspicion that certainly in Guedd and Hammil’s case we have been paid a tidy amount of cash of which JM gets his cut for arranging the moves, nothing else explains it.
TC is a classic example of WWFC blinkered save money at all costs principle he should have gone years ago but we stuck with him because he was cheap and nobody wanted him.
Yes MM should have gone before Christmas but pulling the trigger then would have meant making some real money available to the new manager to buy in players not 300k for a “prospect” midfielder so it was never going to happen. You pay peanuts you get monkeys.
TC & JM out
Oh, I don’t disagree – financial constraints enforced by the ownership no doubt led to certain signings, BUT we actually did spend a relatively high amount by Premiership standards and look where it’s got us, so something went wrong regarding the judgement of which players to sign. Was it all Mick, or partly? We may never know.
But I think he has to take some blame as how he, a good international defender in his day, could reside over such a shit defence (and not improve it either with training or signings season after season) is anyone’s guess.
I agree with you on the defensive training it is a joke, but partly I think that’s down to the ethos at the club of don’t change anything if it costs money. Mick hasn’t changed the coaching staff by choice since he’s been here, how many other managers do that? It might be that he thought that it was perfect when he arrived but its more likely he was told he had to work with what he’d got. On playing personnel at the back Mick was interested in Bertrand and Onuha this summer both who would have been an improvement on what we have now but both weren’t signed as wwfc wouldn’t pay the wages.
There was a blog on here a few weeks ago of MM unsigned 11 the majority of which went elsewhere because we wouldn’t pay up, the squad look decent and had a lot of premiership experience in it. The classic examples are Scott Dann, Craig Gardner and Leon Britton all players Mick wanted years ago, all that have proven themselves (in bursts) to be quality players and better than what we currently have. MM hands were tied by our clubs wage structure. He did well with what we had to keep us up as long as he did.
Tempted to embroider this blog on a Wolves shirt, frame it, and hand deliver it to the buggers.
Fantastic Blog Ben .. I hope the South Bank chorus of songs clearly shows to the many that Wolves fans aren’t fickle and that all they want is to have something to cheer about .. (generated by action on the pitch!) Please keep your promise too and apologises about yesterday’s lack of a fix.
I’m aiming straight for Connor and Moxey here.
Quote from Mark Lawrenson MOTD 18 Mar, .. “A good coach would sort out the Wolves marking and defensive frailties in 5 mins. .. What’s Connor been doing for the last 3 – 13 years? He’s the equivalent of Captain Smith sailing the good ship WWFC .. and we’re just about to hit the iceberg! I’m afraid that we will suffer the same fate and founder.
As for Moxey .. he’s the equivalent of the peers of White Star Line. Convinced that they have got something that cannot fail to deliver/be a success, when all that was needed was to step back and look at themselves in what they were promising. (A modern, state of the art unsinkable Ship!) The rest is history.
If Moxey has any accountablility (and I doubt whether he would admit to any when it’s getting F*@*ed up like it is) then he should quit after all the cock up’s he’s handled .. not to mention his egotistically fat underserving salary.
So come Steve Morgan show us true fans that you can sail the SS WWFC better and get rid of the money grabbing, restrictive and damaging CEO who carries far to much control of our once great club.
I like your theme twixfix, its just a pity they don’t read our posts.there’s a great deal of truth in what you say.FOJM-FOTC.OR TC RESIGN NOW.
Thank goodness Mothers Day duties and a bit of common sense told me not to drive the two hours over to the match. Couldn`t bear to watch MOD either, just knowing the score was bad enough.
We need a director of football who has a plan, a strategy to develope a style of play, and help whoever is the manager to get the players in to fit the plan. Do it the wba way, not a smug ceo who knows diddlysquat about football, or a manager so out of touch with the league his team is in, that his signings mostly aren`t fit for purpose. That should stop Morgans money being wasted.
My lad watched the game and said Ward was at fault for at least 3 maybe 4 of the goals, well TC makes him captain, as Ben`s blog said deja vue from 4 years ago. Radical changes needed, if we are to recover form the impending disaster or rlegation.
Yes, I agree with you. WBA aren’t the only similar team who we can look at for inspiration, but they do (regrettably) embody a club who are doing ‘the right thing.’
I think Norwich and Swansea are also impressive in what they’ve achieved and the football they play, but it is only their first season so in my opinion the jury has to stay out.
However, back to the Tesco…they have signed a manager who has proven to be VERY competent with a medium sized club. We could, but didn’t.
They have bought wisely in the main – some players are better than others, but you don’t see them dishing out millions on players who then don’t play and subsequently get loaned out to Championship clubs like us.
They play to their strengths and play players, shock, in the right position. We don’t, we’re just dreadful.
The result? They’re solid.
The regret that I, like many Wolves fans, have is that COULD have been us!
With the money we’ve spent it’s criminal to see the wheels falling off so badly and I hope Morgan, who has seemingly shown that he cares, really takes everyone to task next season no matter if we’re in the Prem or not.
Norwich were worth a point at Newcastle.
Swansea looked like Barcelona at times.
Arsenal are in good form.
Man City vying for the title.
Wigan pissed all over the shit, and were unlucky in front of goal.
Everton, Bolton, and a couple of others…………………
And there are STILL some clappy happers who insist we’ll get another point this season!!!!!
Well, for all those of blind faith and trust, I have some fabulous oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you!
That performance was, for me, the worst of the season, because NONE of our lot were up for it.
When a top team comes calling, the very least that should be done is rise to the challenge, have the seige mentality, “they shall not pass” of the underdogs. And, feed off the skill of the opposition, play out of your skins.
Us?
The same old garbage, no pace, no thought, no defense, no punch, no bottle, no clue.
If it were up to me, I would drop all of them, put in a team of youngsters/reserves/ trainees/tea ladies and tell them to enjoy themselves.
None of that shower yesterday deserves to pull on a Wolves shirt ever again.
The positives to come out of the match?……………………………………………
…………………………………………………………………………………………………….
…………………………………………………………………………………………………….
I’m with you Clive, it’s painful when there are NO positives. I think anyone predicting wins from here on out needs their head looking at, which is sad, but true.
I’m with you Clive, it was embarrassing how easy we made it considering we were the home team. But i’d argue last week was worse because of how important a game it was.
For all of McCarthy’s faults and our shit defense it was rare that we got hammered and then the game after we didn’t respond with a performance lucky or not. TC has had four games to change things, but if anything we are much worse, we are now unable to score as well as defend. TC would be out of his depth in a paddling pool, and has been shown up for the shit tactician and motivator we all suspected he was. He’s another example (not just in the fact of being appointed manager) of WWFC doing things on the cheap, we could have had a good No.2 years ago but stuck with him despite his lack of ability.
FOTC and JM
What went wrong with Roger Johnson after the first couple of games? Is he still having health problems?
Why doesn’t Jody Craddock get a chance?
We were definitely looking not too bad for the first 20 mins or so, but the defence don’t really know each other well enough, and the sending off and Davies’ injury were fatal.
We seem to be able to play proper football at times, then stumble back to cluelessness, slowing the game, doubling up instead of moving the ball forward.
Don’t blame TC, he was here during all the good years, he can’t make silk purses out of pigs; we need some class players in, not shift workers.
I do blame TC, because the one thing you could expect out of MM Wolves side was hard work and battling performances especially after a heavy defeat the week before. TC side have looked toothless in attack, despite starting 4 weeks ago with Doyle looking better (against Newcastle), Fletcher in a purple patch and Kights looking better. And are abject at the back, we have conceded 14 goals since his appointment with two 5-0 shut outs. Prior to him taking over we had only conceding 5 in two games all season.
When he took over he said he wanted to do things differently, well he’s managed that, he’s torn the hope and determination out of the players, he got us defending worse and looking even more toothless up front. Well done TC
What was the score in MM’s last game in charge? What were the win, draw, lose stats for his last 22 games ? The wheels had come off long before he was sacked. TC has had no luck since the promising result against Newcastle, but there’s still time.
I’m not arguing that MM record at the end wasn’t poor simply that TC’s is worse. The players generally fought for McCarthy, this season that had slipped (particularly at Liverpool and a****n) but not as abjectly as the capitulations against Fulham, Blackburn and Man Utd. Generally following a defeat we had a fight back performance in the next game even if we didn’t win.
Under TC we look like a team who can’t score or defend at least with Mick we were grabbing a goal or two to give ourselves hope in games.
After not being sacked before xmas, if the club hadn’t got someone lined up with premiership experience ala Curbs, Mick should have stayed till the end of the season. I know it wouldn’t have been a popular decision after the Derby but it would have been more sensible compared to the joke situation we have now.
Good blog, well put. I had already renewed before yesterday, but I had a really good time supporting Wolves. Its a shame it took all of the boo boys to leave at half time before we found our voice, even if it was Gallow humour.
I don’t get the Morgan/Moxey out brigade, yes we look terrible on the pitch, yes they have made mistakes. But we still have experienced what we have in the past 3 years. Premier League Football.
For people to say they are worse than Bhatti’s and that we are going back to those times is a bit much. Keep singing-We have a nice stand at least.
One part of me is angry that deficiencies that have been in evidence for years, (not months) like an inability to defend set-pieces, a tendency to leak late goals and an inability to retain possession have not been addressed. Another part of me says – what the f**k ! Do we really want to be part of a League in which we will forever be simply making up the numbers with never a hint of a chance of ever winning anything ( like Bolton, Villa, Fulham, Stoke etc etc) ? The Premier League has ruined the competitive nature of football in this country and I for one don’t care if we don’t buy into the project. At the end of the day we’ll all follow Wolves regardless of whether we can go to every match or of what division they are in.
As i agree on the first part of your post,i don’t agree on the part where you say ,do we really want to stay in the prem,i for one want to stay in the prem its the only place to be IMO.
You ask anyone outside the the prem where they want to be and there will be only one answer
Premier league.what we want is a manager with Vision and nous, don’t ask me who because
i don’t no.
The prem for me anyday.FOJM-FOTC.
This may seem heresy, but as a Baggies fan, I am backing you to stay up, provided you do 4 simple things
1. appoint a manager not just for the rest of the season. No-one can be expected to succeed with the present arrangement, whether its Terry Connor or Sir Alex
2. stop buggering about with team selection. You have 2 good wingers (Jarvis, Kightley) and 2 half decent strikers (Fletcher, Doyle). Play them every game.
3. get a defensive coach to sort out basics at the back, like marking at set pieces, defending from the front and midfield and getting your keeper to organise whats in front of him. You do not need stars, you need organisation
4. don’t give up. Remember the Great Escape?
From memory, The Great Escape included Steve McQueen getting fucked up by barbed wire, Donald Pleasance going blind and getting shot after being in a plane crash, David McAllum getting killed on the railroad tracks, and 76 other escapees getting machine gunned from the back of a truck!!
Now I know we are shit, but that’s a bit excessive, don’t you think??!!
Or were you refering to your great escape a few years ago under Robson, in which case we’ve already done that….twice.
Can we borrow Roy for a few months, please?
That was a film. This is reality!
Yes, you were the one that got away last year, but as Steve McQueen implied, you should not have been there in the first place.
Yes, the Robbo year is the one. Look what happened the next year! Get a grip and appoint a manager. TC seems like a really nice man, but he is no local hero and has been put in the dead mans seat.
thanks for the kind words intruder, perhaps if you ever return you would do us the courtesy of blanking out the swear words like b*****s and a****n…
to take your points in turn:
1) i suspect that Morgan and Moxey will feel that by replacing TC they’d look weaker still, and so will persevere with their 5th choice for the post (besides… who else would want the job?)
2) we’ve tried playing 442, but i don’t whether you’ve noticed we aren’t very good at defending… losing that extra man in midfield would guarantee us getting outscored every game, even with the enhanced firepower up front. in fact, they’d be rendered redundant as, as well as not being very good at defending, we also can’t string more than 3 passes together, so we could have rooney and messi upfront but as we can’t get the ball out of our own half they wouldn’t score either.
3) we had mick mccarthy as manager for 5 years, he was a distinguished centre half who played in the top flight and international level for many years. he’s the one who signed all of our defenders and oversaw their training.
4) balls to it, the premier league is full of shit and i’m looking forward to winning some matches next season. you never know, we might even get awarded a penalty!
Steachy
In order
1. it doesnt matter. You need a manager who is new and give him time to work, even if you go down. I hear that Lee Clarke is a right little bleeder, but might just stabilise matters long enough to keep you up or get you back up next season
2. I am not proposing 442, more a 352. Your full backs are hopeless, so why not go with 3 central defenders, 2 wing backs, a couple of holding mid fielders and 2 up front. At the worst, you would go down fighting
3. Forget Mick and start with the keeper. Hennessy is a great shot stopper, but could not command a Cub Scout Troupe. He needs to boss his defence, a la Harte, Vorm, Krul and dare I say it, Foster. After that, it is down to drill, drill and drill again. As old and limited as he is, Craddock applies this
4. nothing wrong with the Championship, but without 1,2,3 you will not win many
thanks intruder for not taking the piss mate,as i have always said how great it would be to have a really strong bunch of midlands teams in the prem..as it was back in the day! if only our ceo would have the same ideas as you maybe we wouldnt be in such a load of trouble.you speak sense mate ,,,,it really aint rocket science eh?
First of all, let me say that the two chaps running this blog are doing a stellar job. While I disagree with a lot of what you say regarding the club, you have created an excellent forum for Wolves fans to discuss their thoughts. Keep up the good work.
Like most people on here, I thought that the opportunity for a battling draw was there with the confidence of Manchester United low after being humbled in Bilbao on Thursday plus Wolves’ excellent record against the club at Molineux.
I was at the game yesterday and I did feel that before Zubar’s harsh sending off, there was a chance that Wolves could’ve nicked an equaliser at some point. However, playing with ten men against arguably the finest side in the country was always going to be an uphill struggle.
Again, I must take umbrage with the South bank, I was absolutely flabbergasted yesterday! While people on here seem to think it’s fine to sarcastically applaud and cheer the players because they pay their entrance fee, I genuinely think it is bad for morale and is in effect worse than actually booing the players. These so called “supporters” need to take a good look at themselves and grow up.
Even an optimist like me realises that Wolves’ schedule in April is brutal and I am just hoping the fans can put aside their petty gripes regarding Morgan and Moxey and get behind the side as I fear our premiership status will be determined in that month of months.
I was just wondering whether we’d hear from you today Mr Shotton, and whether you would be eating humble pie after the fantastic display yesterday from our fans. But alas you have chosen to take umbrage with your fellow supporters. Perhaps the blind positivity with which you follow the team needs counterbalancing with hatred of the other fans?
For the record, Zubar’s sending off was fully justified.
So another one who reckons it’s the fans fault we are where we are.
Is your name moxey?
No it’s the same one. He comes and slates the fans then doesn’t respond to any of the comments he provokes.
Where are you teddy? Come on and tell us again how we’re all so terrible
Is Shotton for real? Unbelievable stuff!
As my previous post stated, I am offering my opinion. If this is in contrast to yours then all I can do is apologise and hope (most likely) against hope that you wise up very soon.
Fans were magnificent-looking forward to making more noise at Carrow Road.
If I were a season ticket holder in the South Bank, the last thing I’d be doing is ‘celebrating’ the demise of our football club. I understand it’s a coping mechanism for the team’s abysmal failure this season, but there is no way I could bring myself to clap and applaud a side that has brought nothing but shame and ridicule to every Wolves fan.
rob mate..totally get where you are coming from mate but if there is anything the fans can do to push the players towards maybe (dare i say it?) winning a game then i will sing till i lose my voice!! i am so fed up with the way this great club is being run and fear more trouble ahead if things dont change..
I don’t see what is so magnificent about singing at 5-0 down yet in the games where it is a closer contest and against our relegation rivals creating a poisonous atmosphere? Good support makes the difference in close games not being laugh out loud hilarious at mocking and applauding at 5 nil when the contest is over. The Brains Trust in the South Bank are all giving themselves a pat on the back for singing yet the sad truth it is their total lack of patience in most games and players fear to pass a ball sideways or backwards which is why we will always struggle as a club.
What else have we got left in this abysmal season.
UTW
FOTCJMSM
If the players were technically adept and had sufficient confidence in themselves and their team mates, then they would pass the ball wherever they wanted. Sadly, the former manager’s lack of desire to buy technically proficient foreign players (or buy them and ship them out on loan) and stick to hard grafters with little or ability, has left us with a squad barely capable to play to any discernible pattern. Couple that with a man who is visibly crumbling under the pressure of being a amanger in the PL (Not his fault, he’s just not up to it) and you have a receipte for disaster. Yet still, STILL, people think it’s the fans fault, if the players are scared to keep possession because of (alleged) noise from the crowd if they do, then they should not be at the club.
There are people to blame for our current predicament, the fans are not the guilty party though
FOJM and FOWB
Although I never like to hear a supporter criticising fellow fans, there’s definitely something in this particular accusation.
There’s not enough patience in the stands when the team are trying to build an attack. Even the best teams have to go backwards and sideways to keep the ball and move the opposition around.
Of course I can understand people getting frustrated if it’s the last 5 minutes and we’re chasing the game, but there needs to be more understanding the rest of the time.
You can hear people screaming “forward, forward” even after some neat interchange that’s created space, like they expect a killer pass through the heart of the opposition’s defence every time.
In this respect, I always thought Mick’s direct approach galvanised supporters when it was effective and getting results, but of course made us look pedestrian when it didn’t.
It’s a valid point Thomas. But I’d argue it’s more of an English football thing than a Wolves ‘Molineux Factor’ issue. I was at the Man Utd v Basel game and Rio Ferdinand was getting stick for sidewards passes!
Admittedly, some clubs like Arsenal, Swansea of late, and dare i say Albion, have come to embrace a more patient style and the fans have bought into it over a period of many years.
But do you think those fans are fundamentally different to Wolves fans? I doubt it. Arsenal are a good example – the fans revelled in the 1-0 wins under Graham but now take pride in attacking possession football after Wenger. If Pulis had taken Swansea up then those fans would be celebrating their route one style instead!
Basically, the change has to come from the pitch – from players brave enough to put their foot on the ball – and the fans (any fans) will follow.
What do you mean Thomas,Forward, sidewards, more like backwards, are you watching the same team, its more like can we put two passes together, i don’t think so.
its more than frustration when fans start fighting with each other.wolves fans are passionate to say the least and thats why we sometimes boil over.
Patience we a’nt got, pedestrian the team are with TC at the helm, as it was under M.M.
Time for a major clear out got to get rid of them ALL.
Sorry Thomas, I have to disagree.
Yes there is Patience and passing football by some of the best teams in the league…but it more often than not, leads to something. A chance, a shot at goal, something..
When wolves do it, it ends up with us giving away possession everytime…
Our only attacking threat is with Jarvis down the left to cross the ball, and 9 times out of ten nobody there for it.
We do not have the players to play patient passing sexy football. It always ends up with the opposition gaining possession.
Our players cannot trap a ball,
Cannot control a ball with one touch,
they have no pace,
they have no awareness,
and they have no skill.
Apart from maybe Jarvis and fletcher.
The rest of them are average championship players at best.
It will take years for us to recover from this McCarthy era.
Football has moved on apace, Wolves have not..
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
Totally agree Nige. The last three years have been a very painful wasted oppurtunity.
Football is evolving at a pace. In the meantime our team has evolved to the extent that Ward is now considred one of our better players and wears the captain’s armband. A one paced forward playing out of position, a very obvious problem which has been unaddressed for 3 years. Just one of the unfathomable decisions during this time.
Morgan was ‘given’ the club so he could move us onto another level with a £30m headstart. Instead we are a hopeless team without a manager. All very sad.
The Muppet show continues. I doubt Wolves will win another Premier League game. What the hell are they thinking, Conner is way out of his depth. A complete overhaul required and pray we can stay in the Championship next year, the current team minus the ones that are going to leave( Doyle, Fletcher, Jarvis, Johnson etc) will struggle to survive the second tier, i have been watching almost every game this season and Wolves cannot compete with the top half of the championship
It is imperative we hire a top quality manager, regardless of cost.
I disagree, I think we would be a solid Championship team and should be aiming for play-offs at least, but only if we get a decent manager in.
Got a horrible feeling were stuck with Roger Johnson for the next few years. Unless Liverpool want a drinking buddy for Andy Carroll.
much as i’d like to see it, I can’t see a new manager being appointed in time to make any difference. TC has a contract and that would have to be paid up.
I have a horrible feeling that we will start next season in the championship with TC at the helm
His contract only lasts till the end of the season anyway. Place him on gardening leave and get someone else. Could probably put the defence and midfield coaches on the same leave without any detriment to our performances.
If that happens i’m going to stick my swipecard,ie season ticket straight up moxey’s arse.
FOJM,FOTC.
Oh my god, thats one of the funniest stories ever. Matt jarvis says in the express and star, that he and the lads are ready to ‘go to war’. He should be ashamed of himself for making such a statement when they cant be arsed to run round a pitch after a football. These group of wolves players are really pissing me off with there twitter, facebook , media statements and then when it matters they do
fuck all.
Don’t believe what you read in THE E&S,Its full of spin where wolves are concerned,if it is true
its probably been quoted by poxey.FOJM&TC,RESIGN.
” Be careful what you wish for ” a quote from Mark Lawrenson before Mick’s dismissal – which was ill conceived, poorly timed with no firm plan a, b or c.
Any one of us who thinks for a nano second that Steve Morgan, Jez Moxey or Terry Connor don’t care deeply about Wolves and desperately want it to be successful are either kidding themselves or have strolled through life completely oblivious to what makes people tick, especially successful people. Of course they care. They are driven individusls and like us all want to succeed. However, that doesn’t mean mistakes haven’t been made; big ones too.
Those that are calling for Steve Morgan to go, yes, he has made mistakes – show me someone who never made a mistake and I’ll show you a liar
but he has put his money where his mouth is in supporting wolves financially. Jez Moxey may not have the people’s touch but he strikes me as a good business manager who has handled the club well over recent years and Terry Connor seems like a really decent guy trying to do his best. Let’s have a debate starting with those basic assumptions first please and stop calling for everyone to fall on their swords.
I was at the game yesterday and we did play some good stuff at times. All the players put in a shift and anyone thinking they don’t care watch their body language as the goals go in and at the final whistle. Zubar deserved to be sent off but he’d shown some real promise with 2 great surges down the left. There were some good performances.
The support from the majority of fans led by the south bank was great. It wasn’t derisory it was magnificent and I think anyone at the game would agree. I think it helped stop 5 goals becoming 7 or 8. Man utd not scoring after 61 mins was to do with the crowd lifting our players and the wolves 10 not giving up, not sir Alex’s team taking their foot off the gas.
Whatever happens we all want Wolves to do well. Things are grim at the moment but that will change in time. In the meantime lets all be careful what we wish for and get behind the team. UTW
Claptrap..
Bottom of the league with 22 points after 29 games.
Possibly these idiots are over seeing the worst Wolves team for many years…
Morgan only cares about making a buck from his building projects.
Moxey is only concerned about his own paycheck and bonus.
Neither of them know anything about football.
Connor has been part of the problem for the last 3 years and is well out of his depth.
Curbishley : When a decent football manager comes along and tells these guys actually this is what you need to do to build the club in the Premier league and how much it will take…
They start running scared and say NO NO NO we can’t do that… So he is on his bike and no decent manager wants to touch us, cos everything has to be done on the cheap…
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
Agree completely.
We are far from a shambles and far from being a laughing stock.
There appears to be an outbreak of mass hysteria going on here. Yes, we are struggling badly but relegation isn’t the end of the world
Because we will be back, having learned some valuable lessons in the meantime.
Morgan and Moxey do care about this club but they have made some mistakes which they will learn from.
Why should Wolves bankrupt themselves just to satisfy the spending lust of wannabe Wolves managers?
We are one of the best financially run clubs in the country and THAT MATTERS
And we will always be one of the best financially run clubs in the championship..
Where we will remain.
No footballing ambition to be anything other than another average championship team.
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
The S**T up the road are also one of the one of the best financially run clubs in the country and they currently sit in 12th place safe with 36 points, with a squad that cost less money than ours…
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
You are really not on this planet, are you?
Morgan bought the club for ten quid, and has not had to put his hand in his pocket coz all the incoming revenue has financed the club outgoings, and he is milking it for all he can.
He has, however, had to take lessons from, nad bow to the master skimmer, moxey, who is getting as much out for his own weasel self and family as he can.
moxey cares not one iota for the club, and especially the footballing side of it, which is really the side of importance, isnt it?
No, greasly weasel wants only to see a bottom line profit so his fat unearned bonus is safe, and relegation will suit him just fine, coz of the parachute payments.
You watch, that fat fuck will “resign for personal reasons” once we go down, as he will be set for life off the back of OUR club, and our money.
You are sadly deluded my friend if you think otherwise.
FOJM
Weren’t Zubar’s surges down the right side the cross went out on the left…………
Totally agree Nige. These happy clappers are doin my head in. In the first half before he got sent off, zubar ran down the right wing and cross the ball so badly it went out for a throw in. The people around me clapped him. It was a rubbish piece of football. Some wolves fans seem happy to settle for third rate football. I dont expect champions league football, but what is being served up at the moment is shocking.
For a club with such a proud history it saddens me to see so many so called supporters on this blog now accepting that its not a bad thing for us to be once again banished from the top table of English football.
That actually the 2 M’s aren’t all that bad and are keeping the ship afloat and out of the muddy waters of debt.
Christ, I really thought Wolves fans didn’t surrender that easy.
Maybe they worry about the cost of the season ticket going to high. They don’t want to sit at the top table and dine with the best cos it’s gonna cost me a few bob more…
Such a fickle lot… as my Man city supporting Brother in law says (he’s From Manchester by the way)
You Wolverhampton lot always want something for nothing…. Judging by some of the comments on this blog, he is right.
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
“You Wolverhampton lot always want something for nothing” – in return for my £400 season ticket, approx £210 worth of away tickets this season, £35 return train journey for every home game, spending on matchday food and beverages (which I’d rather not estimate), time spent at said matches and on trains, and most importantly significant emotional investment, I’d quite like a team that stays up, works hard and doesn’t concede 5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches. I don’t expect it, but I would like it. Is that really ‘wanting something for nothing’?
And a tip for you Nige – don’t take your brother-in-law’s advice on how to finance a football club. Unless of course you enjoy paying astronomical sums of money to watch crassly overpaid mercenaries, while pathetically pretending they harbour some sort of loyalty to your locality. If you hadn’t noticed, Man City are making football really really shit.
Well said!
I think you have it right on the button!
I assume then that if Shiek Mansoor or whatever his name is, decieded he wanted to buy up Wolves and invest 300 billion or whatever.
You would politely tell him to Piss off…
Fair play I suppose.
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
My point exactly…
for an established Top half Premier league club, double your outgoings, my friend…..
That’s what it takes….
To pay the overpaid mercenaries, who don’t pathetically pretend they harbour some sort of loyalty to the locality. they are some of the best football players available from around the world, and want to earn as much money as they can and win as much as they can.
We will carry on with our minimum wage failures who pathetically pretend they harbour some sort of loyalty to Wolverhampton..
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
SM the successful businessman has been on a steep learning curve this season. I think , no, I hope that he is now a little bit wiser about running a football club. Personally I believe his heart is with WW but his naivety regarding the intricacies and finer details of club management has led to major mistakes being made which have damaged the integrity and confidence of the club, the players and the fans. I also firmly believe that TC does have the correct DNA but unfortunately his opportunities to show his own managerial skills have been severely limited during his time with WW. He always was a competent “First Mate” but not a “Captain” Some comments have been made suggesting that TC should have ” fallen on his sword ” and refused the offer. Are you serious ???? 13 years in the wings and then the offer comes along to try and do things his way for a club he loves.
With hindsight we all realise that MMc should have been shown the door a lot sooner but that would have been very expensive ( obviously too expensive for the owner(s) ) since any new man would have demanded funds to do things their way. I’m convinced that TC was in a catch 22 situation and SM and JM knew this and they have exploited this episode to generate a smoke screen to try and hide their own shortcomings. They don’t mind TC taking the flack, because whatever happens he will be blamed by certain sections of the media, fans etc. I for one will not hold him responsible for this sad state of affairs which has yet to be resolved.
9 games left, 10-12 points to find. Keep the faith UTW !!!!! and FOWB as always.
Yes, the poor bloke has that “deer in the headlights, 1000 yard stare”
It’s not his fault that he’s useless, in the same way that Ward is blameless for being crap.
The blame lies squarely with the owner and his tonto.
They kept McDickwad on way past his sell by date, and he in turn kept his yes men around him, Connor, Foley, Ward Henry, etc, etc.
Connor is in a no win situation, and I don’t envy him.
If we go down, he’ll be fired.
If we stay up, an experienced manager will be brought in ( I hope!! )
Just do your best Clippy, it’s all we can ask.
If we go down, the fans all know who is to blame.
FOJM
Don’t know about you guys but I’ve had my fill of Conner & players in the E&S paper telling us how they’re gonna do this & that! Talk the the talk but can’t walk the walk. How about shut the fuck up & get on with the job! Fair play to the beloved fans for having a laugh at our own expense but it’s a sorry state of affairs when we do it on live TV in front of millions. Something stinks in the state of Molineux & it’s not just the team. As for the likes of Morgan & co telling us to get behind the lads well we tried that & look where it got us. Hey Moxey & Morgan how about you come over to my six year old sons school where he’s the only Wolves fan but every day he defends his club! You haven’t a clue of the pain we’re in coz of you. Why should I go anymore ? You don’t come & see me when I’m bad. They can shove their Early Bird where the sun don’t shine! Still Old Gold n’ Black forever!
PS. Get well soon Fabrice.
I don’t understand why the club and some posters on here appear to think it is a straight choice between watching decent football and moving the club forward or financial stability. Swansea and Norwich haven’t broken the bank, but are doing great things under young progressive managers. But Jez doesn’t want a young, progressive manager with a strong character like Rogers or Lambert, he wants someone who will toe the club line and keep Jez in Krispy Kremes. I’ll say it again – what is Jez bringing to the party? Why is he always in the press – he loves the limelight too much and wants to be the centre of attention.
FOYFGW
… You Fat Greasy Weasel?
Ha ha – bingo sleachy
Do I get a prize? Can it be a new midfield? Please don’t say it’s a pie and a pint…
It’s George Elokobi back on loan and raring to go
I enjoyed reading this article. Numpty bait: http://www.sportsnewsireland.com/soccer_irish/95606/?
You’re not very clever are you?
Rose colored hindsight is a wonderful thing.
so full of shit i had to stop reading. it was the bit about not being a regular club in the top flight for 50 years that finally did it.
the bit before that about the meager resources MM had in the prem was another falsehood.
seriously… do people make a living writing crap like that? I’m a salesman and even we don’t get away with such barefaced lies!
‘ That was a party political broadcast on behalf of the EVERYBODY LOVES MICK MCCARTHY PARTY(unless you are a long suffering Wolves supporter).
What amazes me is how wonderful all these people say he is but i don’t see any other premiership sides queueing up to ask him to run their team. And not likely to in the future either.
And is this statement true? ‘Mick McCarthy had the best winning percentage of any Wolves’ manager since Graham Turner in the mid 1980s’. i don’t see how it can be considering the last 3 years it’s been a percentage of once in a blue moon proportions.
Adam B what are the stats?
win ratio of 40.9%, which is the same as McGhee. I don’t think Mick’s a bad manager and he did great job with us. I reckon he’ll be back in international management within the year.
this season’s gone tits up, and I would have fancied our chances much more if SM hadn’t blinked, but we’ll be in good shape to come up again.
So Jez reckons he’s still “learning lessons”. I’d have thought £1.3m a year quite a generous package for a trainee?!
Still, he’s only been here 12 years so its early days I suppose.
There’s an allegation that Moxey and TC are in-laws going round. Anyone shed any light on that?
Scooped .. have you read Moxey’s comments that “We should ALL eat a bit of humble pie”
Taters to that , like yourself, I’ve only been supporting Wolves for 50 plus years . What have I done wrong for me to eat his humble pie. As far as I’m concerned he can shuv the whole thing down his own big fat gob (all at once preferably) for all the cock up’s he managed.
Where was that comment Twixfix? i’ve got to see it to believe it. Perhaps a couple of twix bars rammed up his annus horribilis for afters.
Monday’s E & S in quotes. Generally about how far we have come as a club .. not mentioning that we will soon be back where we have just come from! Also omitting to comment that all the other shit run clubs (and in dire financial straits) like Sandwell Town, Swansea, Norwich, Fulham will also be playing Champioship footie next year. (In comparison to how WWFC operate .. wages, transfers and hey QUALITY OF FOOTBALL !!
How some fans get sucked in by him beggars belief.
With the same personnel throughout the club things aren’t going to get any better.
With Dumb and Dumber still running the club mid-table champ, is about all we can hope for.
Houses will be built and new restaurant doing roaring trade mid-week.
Asset stripping carries on. Bhattis at least didn’t hide their agenda.
Moron the man who could have bought Liverpool for £85 million and tried to knock them down.
Wake up happyclappers and smell the coffee.
I’m one of the thousands who hasn’t been early-birdied.
Will support club my way-not their way.
The only way to make the owners realise their responsibilities to the club and the fans is for the fans to stay away. Loud, rude and ignorant demonstrating fans before, during and after matches are not the way forward, they wrongly make us all out to be of the same ilk, and we’re not. Hit them where it hurts most, in their pocket. This always works. Once the coffers start emptying faster than filling they will realise that something is wrong. They will still blame others for the deterioration but then thats just human nature..!!!
Keep the faith. UTW..!!!!!! and as ever FOWB.
The last demo has led to us losing O’Hara. I doubt we will see him play again in a Wolves shirt. Well done for that. Genius!
He hasn’t been fit since he signed full time…
Strange that, cos he had his fair share of injury problems at Spurs too..
Did we buy a crock. ??
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
This is getting Embarrassing now – cant wait for the season to be over.
Ben I dont blame you for reconsidering your season ticket at all. My brother has had one for 15 years and is not going back next season as its an effort rather than a pleasure now. I wont be renewing my TPS even if we did stay up (which we wont).
Bunch of clowns at the top, club a laughing stock.
The club is a laughing stock.
The chairman and chief executive got it badly wrong.
There is little point in contributing financially to their arrogance.
After all it must have been their conditions, which put off everyone off having a go at managing Wolves.
If Moxey and Morgan had eaten a ‘little humble pie’ and accepted Wilkins offer, we might have stood a chance.
However Moxey, Morgan and Connor care nothing about Wolves other than how it affects their bank balances.
Don’t go to matches, don’t pay them, they will get the message.
The season is over and we are down…..
There have been mistakes at managerial and executive level but apart from nolonger being up for a scrap many Wolves fans are still in the 1970’s.
You set very low expectations of the management of a Premiership club(with all the tv millions) which was handed to them in excellent financial order, good ground and excellent training facilities. Oh and with a large and passionate fan base.
Personally, i don’t think they could have cocked it up any better.
Morgan OUT !!! Moxey OUT !!! TC OUT !!!
I just watched Blackburn beat Sunderland 2-0..
How depressing.
How S**T are we.
Back to where we seem to belong, The championship
and by the posts on this blog where some of the fans are happiest.
Where the board seem happy for us to be too cos its cheaper..
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!!
I really don’t want to see Wolves in the championship. The Premiership is the only place to be. Yes, it’s been a shambles but can’t see how getting relegated will help.
Wolves are S**T
Morgan OUT !!! Moxey OUT !!! TC OUT !!!
Poxey ‘s said the door is open for TC to bring someone in to help, what he should be saying
TC the door is open for you to walk because we have dropped a immense bollock in appointing you,i hope he would be saying. But the real reason is that season ticket sales have
never been so low and they have just realized there won’t be enough money to pay the tea lady let alone poxey’s fat overweight pay packet.
It may be to late but the sooner we get Wilkins in if he still wants to come that is before it really is to late.FOJM.& TC.or resign.
Any official news on early bird sales?
Rumour 9,000.but i heard it was closer to 4,000.sorry to say just goes to show how pissed off we are.FOJM,TC Resign.
I wonder if Sir Jack would give Morgan His Tenner back….
Probably not worth that at the minute.
Never has a football club died such a humiliating public death…
Morgan OUT !!! Moxey OUT !!! TC OUT !!!
Interesting about Leeds v Forest.
Warnock, who a few wanted at The Mol, still yet to get a win, and Forest, who looked doomed before January score 7, one of which was a “wonder” goal from 35 yards from…..Adelene G, who we considered surplus to requirements, and who went out on a non rteturnable loan.
If that doesnt stick in yer craw, I dont’ know what does.
Fuckin’ useless McCarthy, still fucking with our club.
Adlene’s was a 35yd rocket which was still accelerating when it hit the net. We don’t any of that nonsense at the Mol do we.
Most of my friends are Forest fans, they say Gued has been bossing their midfield but they have also commented that he likes to shoot from everywhere and this is the first one that went in! (Sound familiar!) Also, bear in mind he scored this goal 4 minutes after giving away a penalty.
He sounds like he’s playing well because the traits that cost him in the premier league aren’t being found out in the championship, but I guess this championship experience will be invaluable for when he’s our midfield maestro next year!
I don’t think anyone’s saying he’s the new Iniesta. But we could certainly do with a bit of ability in the middle of our midfield right now. The decision to send him out on loan was a terrible one – Super Mick my arse!!
I don’t think Mick, had a choice in letting him go in the same way that I doubt sending out our 2nd choice winger when were already short in midfield was TC’s choice. Moxey’s money grabbing is at the back of it i’ll bet, nice bonus for securing the loan fees.
If that’s the case, I guess the conversation between Mick and Jez (they sound like 80’s DJ’s don’t they ?!) would have been along the lines of – if you’re not going to play him, send him out on loan to save cash. If that’s the case then obviously the portly, donut munching weasel is in the wrong, but also so is Mick. Guedioura has obvious ability and creative spark, which we’ve been crying out for all season
Don’t think it was Mick’s choice to send him out on loan, same as I don’t think TC had a choice in sending Hammil out. Moxey’s probably gained a nice fee for arranging the loans and saving the wages.
What a goal by Guedioura last night…
