As is often the case against the top sides, they just found the extra bit of quality to win a well contested game.
Salah’s finish was exquisite and while it was disappointing to concede a second from a straightforward recycled cross into the box it’s tough to begrudge Van Dijk his goal.

The Dutchman was colossal at the back for his team and the only moments of joy Wolves had came when playing around the giant defender.
Nuno thought we were worth a goal and I wouldn’t disagree, particularly after a 20 minute first half spell in which multiple openings were created.
Matt Doherty should have pulled the trigger after dancing inside from the right but instead opted to offload to Jimenez who was immediately crowded out.
And that move more or less summarised the performance – plenty of effort and invention but lacking in the decisive moments.
We found it much harder to get up the pitch in the second half and with Salah seeing more of the ball the back three did well to keep the score down when the gaps began appearing.
I thought Nuno got the tactics right but perhaps not the personnel. Without the energy of Gibbs-White our three man midfield was too static at times despite Moutinho’s typically neat use of the ball.
Neves is struggling of late, too often missing simple passes or surrendering the ball and he was second best to Saiss last night.
[interaction id=”5c1e2d1cfe9c8e5051ce0c65″]Traore did what Traore does which is excite and frustrate in equal measure but I don’t think he did too bad considering the opposition and the role he was asked to fulfil. Cav was tidy in his short cameo though and deserves a start in the upcoming games.
Jimenez was again superb, doing the work of a number 9 and a number 10 albeit lacking the finish his typically smart approach play warranted. He should have scored when that deflected cross span back into his path late in the game.
But he and the team should feel content enough with their efforts. They did enough to be competitive against the very best and on another night a break of the ball could easily have altered the outcome.
I would hope the majority of the biggest crowd Molineux has seen for decades would agree and morale remains high for a very winnable game at Craven Cottage.

Nothing to be ashamed of in losing that one. High quality opponents who have been at or near the top for a long, long time giving them the financial muscle to splash out for quality players in all positions. Given their defensive record we did well to open them up a few times and had Traore buried one of his early chances who knows what the outcome might have been.
Can’t believe the criticism Neves is getting on some social meia. He was up against quality opponents, he’s still young and learning and whilst he didn’t have one of his best games he still contributed enormously on the defensive side. Yes he was at fault for the first goal, but is that reason enough to slate him ?
Think I will be a bit harsh on Neves what has happened to him from last season ?
Think it happens to a lot of footballers when their family life is disrupted with new members and will take a while to settle down.
Easy to say now but perhaps we were set up too defensivly and should have gone for the 3 up front ?.
Anyway watching Salah in the last 10 mins against Boly perhaps it was as well he spent the majority of the game as a centre forward.
Overall cannot complain as Liverpool are title contendors and we at the moment are building towards that.
Need the 3 pts against Fulham now.
I was thinking the same about Neves family life, new baby, in a strange town, may be a bit unsettled, also maybe the step up to the Prem plus opposition wise to him; but has the quality to come back to his best soon I’m sure.
Thought wolves gave a decent performance had chances to score but the same problems arise as Gary Neville said we dont have that player with the instinct to score hopefully come Jan might get some one in.
Great game of football on a filthy night. Yes, we needed a bit of luck to convert an early chance to force Liverpool to be more offensive but they always had too much in their locker, as befits a top team. To even consider getting a result at this stage of the teams development is exciting. I think all players, coaching staff and particularly the unfortunates in the uncovered stand deserve 10/10 for their efforts. Well done and maybe Neves needs a couple of games out of the firing line to recharge etc. We now have confidence in our midfield replacements. Christmas greetings to all Bloggers!
Yep Salah has an almost 6 th sense of where to be to score. He almost ghosted in unseen to score that opener.
No doubt Liverpool were superb, Patricio & Boly with Coady did exceptionally well to keep Salah out in the 2nd half.
They are another level on cocksure on the ball, composed in tight situations & in front of goal.
We had chances but a lack of composure in front of goal meant it was nil points.
Neves didn’t have a good game but he doesn’t shy away from the action, he’s always in the tight & difficult areas of the pitch. I liked the line up & thought Traore was almost capable of upsetting their defence, who were prone to errors despite the £75 million prescence of Thunderbird 1 Virgil Van Dyck.
We can compete with these multi million pound elite squads, & at times last night came close to glory but…
Flat feeling as always after a defeat, but I am sure Nuno & the players will move on learn & deliver us more glory.
Virgil was Thunderbird II but I agree with everything else ?
If I’m truly honest I never expected anything from this match so ultimately had to walk away from Molineux and take heart from a wonderful evenings entertainment and a great performance in atrocious weather. It really is an occasion to come to Molineux these days and what a magnificent pre match light, music and firework show, I have to take my hat off to our owners Fosun for ramping up the atmosphere, we are light years away from where we were 2 years ago. Wolves started by playing with a high intensity pressing Liverpool hard and we had the brighter of the early exchanges with Traore in particular having at least 2 or 3 shots where we hoped he might have done better. However Liverpool were brimming with class when ever they had the ball and their little genius Mohammed Salah stabbed the ball home on 16 minutes from their first meaningful attack. This did not change the pattern of play in the first half with Wolves always pressing and looking dangerous but ultimately lacking that high quality needed to finish one of at least 8 chances that their endeavours created. With the second half underway and still with high hopes Liverpool finally began to dominate and although disappointing it was no surprise when Van Djik neatly flicked in their second goal when picked out by Salah. At this point I have to say Salah was magnificent and at the heart of every attack. He is truly a phenomenal player and in my mind the best in The Premier League and so important to Liverpool that I think Wolves would have got something out of the game without him. Along with VVD Liverpool had the best 2 players on the park and I believe they will win the title if they can keep them both fit. That all said Wolves had 2 further clear cut chances falling to Saiss and Gibbs White, both who should have scored and an unlikely point would have been secured. I have to credit all our players who all played their hearts out in continuous heavy rain on an atrocious night weather wise. So in all a memorable night but ultimately we come away empty handed.
As I read somewhere, last night showed how far we have come but also how far we have to go still to become elite. I thought it was a great performance against a very very good side. I thought the back three were very good although I think boly is a bit sloppy in possession at times. I was really shocked when Douglas went but Johnny is some player, I’d be delighted to sign him.
Getting to the next level is tough we have to buy top 6 players and they cost a lot of money and they also have to want to come. Salah and Dick Van Dyke were awesome last night but to prize players like that we would not get much change out of £200 million. I can’t wait to see if this next phase I’ve heard about actually happens and we go for it with top international players.
We are just short of the clinical finisher at the moment to guarantee 7th or 6th in my opinion but they are hard to get hold of. The recruitment has been excellent lately so I hope it can continue. I’m one proud Wolf.
Liverpool supporter here. Kudos to Wolves for playing their part in a really entertaining game played in atrocious conditions. You are building a really good squad and I would love to see you guys finish in the Top 6 – especially if that means you would be ahead of Man United and Everton! Have always had a soft spot for your club ever since Emlyn Hughes left us and joined you. Excellent pre-game entertainment as well. Good on you, Wolverhampton Wanderers!!
Thank you, Colin.
A Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Well said Colin, class comments from an honest fan.
Your team are a different class and it was a pleasure to witness our two teams taking it to each other, oh how I’d love to watch Salah and VVD each week, you are blessed.
Merry Christmas mate, I for one hope you guys win the league, youv’e set the bar very high.
Thanks Colin. You have my respect for taking the time to comment on here. I truly hope Liverpool become champions, you have consistently shown you are a class act. Looking forward to the cup game in the New Year! Best wishes for Xmas mate.
Thanks for the replies, guys, and the good wishes for Liverpool .. Merry Christmas to you all, and all Wolves supporters everywhere – oh, and to all Crystal Palace supporters as well! 🙂
One last thing – Adama Traore is a very good player, imo, principally because he really gives defenders something different to think about with his pace and power. Even when Salah, Firmino or Mane are having an off day, they still keep defenders guessing and occupied which frees up space for other players to operate in. Hope he improves his finishing as, if he did, he could be a real force.
Thanks Colin have a good Christmas
Nice one Colin, much respect and a Happy Christmas

Ho, Ho, Ho!!
On reflection, a fantastic football match played in appalling conditions, and not a single card of any colour.
Yes, Milner should have had a penalty awarded against him, and should have been arrested for theft, the amount of yards he stole during throw ins, but that aside, the difference was they took their chances and we didn’t.
What pissed me off was the commentary, which was exclusive to this side of the pond, with both commentators wetting their knickers over Van Dick, to almost orgasmic proportions.
He was good, but not the second coming of a messiah.
Still, it proved we need a striker with Salah’s instincts……………….and we shall get one.
By no means a wake up call, on another day we would have got at least a point.
Negatives, I still don’t think Traore is good enough, and Neves needs a goal.
Positives, Raul Jiminez! He is colossal!
Love this guy.
Rotherham need a win today.
Iv’e nicked the PC wishes as you will spot on Facebook.
Shame about Rotherham, the shite are having a field day up to half time.
I agree re: Traore. All pace and no brain for me.
He was, in my view, our best attacker against Liverpool. Could have had an assist and a goal. Both work rate and movement have improved since the previous matches and he looked like a threat again.
Yep, I agree Karlir. This was a much improved performance form Adama.
Seems that like me most are giving credit to the players who worked and created all game. But not the game man behind me who spent the entire game knocking every team member. “Saiss is a headless chicken” “the defence gave them too much space” “the midfield can’t create.” And so on and so on in an endless dirge. If you read this mate and recognize yourself please give it a rest.
We were competing with statistically the best team in the league. Maybe in Europe and the main difference between us – they had Van Dyke and Salah and we didn’t. So congratulations to Nuno, Fosun, all the staff and everyone involved. I had one of my best nights ever at The Molineux from the show before KO right up to the final whistle.
Two teams intent on playing good football. One of them a great team.
And the other one Liverpool. 🙂
Exactly Wolfstoker
December in Panama City is usually sunny and mild. But not this year. Friday saw sheeting rain with temps not that much above freezing, so watching the game on the box was not so much different from being there inside the Mol. And did I enjoy it
I saw my team competing against the best side in the land, and giving them a real test. No parking the bus and hoofing the ball up field, just lovely constructive football by a fully committed team despite the atrocious conditions. Yes we ultimately lost. But this performance shows just how far we have come in such a short time. Thank you to all who have made this transformation possible.
The Christmas turkey will be the more enjoyed this year in the belief that Fosuns`s vision — and cash !! — plus Nuno`s outstanding coaching abilities, will in 2019 propel us to yet greater heights. Enjoy your success now while you can you scousers. Your time at the top will be short lived. We re coming to get you.
Good game , the difference for me was Salah, had he been wearing the old gold last night we would have won .
Not too disappointed though , the Liverpool fans by and large are pretty knowledgeable and they almyto a man acknowledged our potential.
We are a young team, learning all the time and the future looks huge ,
Early prediction, Liverpool need a point on the last day of the season to secure their first premier league title, we get an early goal and they have 47 shots, 15 on target but we hold out and finish sixth, just ahead of Man U !
Utw
Fwaw
From the moment it was confirmed that Jota would not make the team I suspected that we would be taking part in a fencing duel armed only with a baguette. Despite some tremendous performances and a wonderful competitive spirit this sadly proved to be the case. Whilst we can compete with England’s best nearly all over the pitch it seems currently that it is only Jota who has the key to open top defensive doors and create real chances for Jiminez and Doherty. Slightly disagree with Thomas as I feel the midfield trio were exactly the right choice to start the game. Saiss was immense and for 15 minutes at the end of the first half we really looked to be wrestling the game away from Pool, but could not reinforce the foothold with a goal. But absolutely no disgrace in that performance or result and yet again pride was reclaimed as I later heard Nuno’s honest post match comments. In the battle for most charismatic manager, Nuno wins easily.
Why did Nuno go after the reporter who asked why we played with no wingers? Are wingbacks wingers in common parlance?
Oh what a spectacle, oh what a show, what a night. No disgrace losing to that team, they soaked up our best efforts in the first half which I believe with all my heart we may have shaved in our favour.
Second half, Liverpool upped a gear and in my opinion we picked the worst day in history to play Liverpool because VVD and Mo Salah were amazing, they both stepped up to the plate last night and they WERE the only difference between the two teams.
Please guys and girls get behind the whole team, they all gave their best on this occasion, if their best was not good enough, come the January sales then they will be fighting for their places, because without any doubt in my heart, we shall buy quality players to take it up a notch.
It was a night to savour, the lightshow and fireworks were so good the whole lower Steve Bull applauded (Liverpool fans)
We out sung them apparently, (from our spot in the Northbank, all we heard was Liverpool for long periods of the game) but I understand we were the only ones who couldn’t hear the Wolves fans dominate the noise.
I’m happy with that spectacle.
Nuno’s disappointed with the decision making in the final third.
Nuno’s the Gaffer.
Fosun have the money.
Hold on to your hat’s boys and girls, we’re not done yet.
Footnote.
James Milner went across to his own fans and gave his shirt to two young lads who were there with their father. They refused the shirt and asked the stewards to pass it to an old guy in a wheelchair.
Milner spotted this and sent a message to the father of the two lads saying, ” what a fantastic gesture and he will send two shirts to the lads” “if they then pass them on, he will get the message”
Picture attached…
No disgrace losing to the Champions elect. With two of the best P.L. players in VVD and Salah in their ranks, this is surely got to be the year they top the Premier League. A very watchable game in atrocious conditions. Can’t wait for the January window to strengthen our team.
Proud to be a Wolves fan excuse the pun considering the weather but Craig Pawson you are a SHOWER SIR.
Merry Christmas everybody.
Another fabulous atmosphere at Molineux.
And a match worthy of the biggest home crowd since 1981.
Two teams intent on playing football – and succeeding in the foulest of conditions.
Salah, who looks more like the bloke in your local kebab shop than a footballer, was absolutely superb! His movement, pace, holding up of the ball, flicks and touches were simply unplayable at times.
And he has the natural instinct for goal of a born striker.
In the end, that was the main difference between the two sides.
Dick van Dyke also put in a massive performance. Much better than he was in Mary Poppins. And he even matched Traore for pace during one of our second half breaks.
We started brilliantly but, once Liverpool came to terms with our high pressing game, at times in the second half we were being given the runaround. But, overall, if we could only have put our chances away… we could have easily come away with a point.
For us, Neves looks a shadow of the player he was last season and is really starting to worry me. Traore had what was probably his best game in an Old Gold shirt but still didn’t REALLY convince.
Jimenez once again did the work of two men up front and Saiss was a rock in midfield.
In the final analysis it was the kind of match that I didn’t mind losing too much.
We gave everything but were faced with a Liverpool that looked the complete footballing side.
I came away from Molineux proud of our performance but full of admiration for the job that Klopp is doing for Liverpool.
And a big hand for the Molineux fans, who were superb throughout.
Would be interested in other opinions as I am unable to make up my own mind.
Given a choice would you have preferred a scrappy 1-0 win to Wolves (from a deflected shot) or the excellent display but ultimately pointless performance last night?
I’m ashamed to say HW, a scrappy 1-0.
scrappy for me too, 3 points always priority, although we know that we can play quality football, but scrap it out if required.
View from W2 Billy Quiet Upper.
Wolves gave it everything and maybe with some clinical finishing…,,..you never know. However there was an undoubted gulf in class – maybe to be expected when the ‘Pool goalkeeper cost more than our entire squad.
Wolves MOM – Saiss by a mile. Must start at the Cottage.
Mentioned in despatches – Coady, Jimenez, Doherty,
Did ok – .the rest apart from……
Room for improvement – Ruben Neves, very disappointing season after last term. Can’t quite believe how many times he gave the thing away and was also caught in possession loads last night.
Overall MOM – Salah- absolutely outstanding. Most impressive player at Molineux for eons. A joy to watch.
Any team that finishes above Liverpool will clinch the title. However I hope they do it – a class act from manager onwards.
Wonderful pre-match entertainment appreciated by the Liverpool fans as well.
Nice to meet up with Wolfstroker beforehand to hand over Bedford Wolf ticket and thanks Steve for meeting me so smartly afterwards to hand it back enabling me to catch the last train to Euston via Milton Keynes.
BOG.
No thanks required Mike. My thanks to you for putting yourself out so we could get it done. Otherwise I would have missed this amazing occasion. Glad you got your train OK.
No shame in losing to what looks like the champions elect as Cit….ty have lost to Palace today I really think this could be liverpools year.
Its frightening to think Liverpool have not won the Premier or League for 20 years I thought we have had a tough time.
Anyway on to FUL…….OF……THE…….HAM. This is not a given either there are no easy games in the Premier hopefully Jota is back I think if he had played last night we might of got a goal.
Really missed Jota last night. He, on recent form, is the closest thing Wolves have now to Salah. Traore played well but his style just doesn’t seem to fit. Maybe he can develop some more skills because he has some raw talent that is rare. He has to learn that the more people you try to dribble around, the more of a chance to lose the ball.
When you get within scoring position, take a quick peek to see if there is someone to pass to and if not, hammer it on net. He doesn’t have the scoring flair of Jota or Calveiro.
Jimenez did well, too but can’t do it alone. Paired with Jota, though, it might really come together. (I know it did already but I am waiting for more games just to verify what I saw).
Patricio’s kicking seemed way off. It was occurring so often, you would think it was part of the plan.
Let’s hope for some good news on DJ and keep looking for points next week.
I will admit I had far too much lager pre match so I can’t remember fuck all about it. That said the highlights on football focus showed we did have chances but as is our failing this season we dae tek them. Not worried. For me all we need to do this season is stay up. The way the bottom 3 are shaping up another 3 wins and a few draws will be enough. Ten points from last ten games is not brilliant but keeps us ticking along after the excellent start. I think we are a better side than that return suggests. There are numerous games drawn or lost we should have got more out of with better finishing.something to think about in the January window.
It was a terrific evening’s entertainment, not least Barbara’s story of Exiledwolf being taken away on a train he didn’t intend to catch. I thought the match would probably be an anticlimax after that but no, it was a superb advertisement for top class football.
OK, we lost, but we could all see why our opponents are currently top of the tree and likely to stay there. Shame they felt it necessary to blot their copybook with blatant timewasting from the 20mins mark, but maybe we should look at that as a compliment.
There were a whole team of heroes in Old Gold and it was the unsung ones who stood out for me.
Saiss was immense throughout, closely followed by Doc, Ryan and Jonny. Adama had probably his best outing in a Wolves shirt and Willy won everything that came near him, barring a few aberrations in the last 10mins. Every man jack of them played outta their skins for the shirt and the fans responded in kind. It made me kinda swell up with pride inside.
Also a big pat on the back to the club for the pre-match festivities which were, in short, absolutely triff, and much enjoyed by the away fans too as Stu has pointed out. Talking of Stu, I had a great meet up with several on here, including the aforementioned, for a pre-match swifty or two as organised by Lowves. Thanks Ken, it was brill.
Finally, thanks Bedders. 🙂
A couple of pieces of great news:
1) Wolves must be the most improved team over the last 2 years
2) Cheesie & me don’t have to run around Gornal in our pants (which may have been a requirement had we won!)
As to the game, pre-match was superb & made me loff when someone said “under big M little organ & Poxey, we’d have seen 2 Catherine wheels & a family pack of sparklers”…. and “our Dave spinning a couple of 45’s on a decca radiogram”
I had a couple of mates text me the only difference in the game was “Salah & Van Dyke” and agreed they were immense.
But we gave them a game, only plaudits from the Scally fans I spoke with before & after the game.
A pleasure to go to that game & ultimately come away with nothing but memories, but give me this over that 1:0 win over Rotherham from 2 years ago when we really were shite.
Special mention of the 12th man, I thought we were superb last night. Looking forward to the January cup upset 🙂
Loud & proud in Wolverhampton
Yeah , Nah, Yeah we deserved a goal. Nah we were never going to score one.
A great game of football which was a credit to both teams in those conditions. As someone said earlier this showed how far we have come and how far we still have to go but we are getting there. Proud to be a Wolves fan with performances like this.
Yeah, you’re right.
Nah, you’re wrong.
Last night was an honour to watch football as it should be played. No parking the bus, playing hoof it and hope, defend in numbers and try a score a breakaway goal.
Well done to a very impressive Liverpool side that included starman Mo Salah….. how this guy caught the eye.
No shame or blame in that performance…. we gave it a huge shot but were beaten by a great team who, imo, will go onto become league champions.
All of our players deserve praise and, whilst some choose to knock him, I’m supporting Reuben Neves to the hilt.
A lot of his current work goes unnoticed, he’s playing against 3 international midfielders most weeks… so maybe isn’t quite firing on all cylinders… BUT .. this guy has a lot of talent.
Current musings are that we’re going to strengthen in January with some marquee signings … so can’t wait for that.
McCarthy, Jackett, Lambert….. no thanks …. NUNO …. yes please.
An outstanding performance, winners all round despite the final score!
The traore syndrome….
His hold up play has improved no end the ball is now sticking.
He is now looking up for the pass .
His unbelievable pace is getting more unbelievable.
This gives him in my opinion 15 / 20
NEGATIVES
He really has to realise that his immense pace is more often than not going to leave him one on one with the keeper .
He has to hugely improve his end product .
He realistically could have had two goals last night.
I still believe that at the moment he is a last thirty minute player not a starter.
Overall ….. I like him … He is still raw but Nuno I am sure will hone him into a great footballer.
What a weapon to have on your side players with his pace dont generally stay fit very long …. but he is different.
He will come good
The club did probably buy him as a long term prospect. If he has the right attitude, he could develop into a top player. I really think it’s the perfect club for him as a player to develop as a player in. Nuno has so far given him playing time, and he’s a coach which know how to get the best out of players. Traore played some really impressive football for Middlesbrough – was unstoppable at times.
Can’t add much here to what’s been written ( nice one Clive btw)
Delighted to see that we can go toe to toe with the best team we’ve seen so far and look like we belong
Agree with Barbados sb… Traore could be so much better
He cost what 18 million? Salah and aubameyang….. Three times more I think?
Its PL currency.rates and Jimenez looks great value for 30 million or so.. but raw talent can be refined and if Traore can be upgraded then he’d be a bargain.. hope a New Year resolution for Nuno
Meantime… only last 30 mins please for AT
Would love to have seen MGW start.. hopefully he runs the game at Craven Cottage on Boxing Day and we receive a late Santa delivery of 3 more points
Merry Christmas to all … excepting
Sandwell folk
Good old MOTD, never let’s you down Analysis of Liverpool with deservedly most attention on VVD. But then no comment whatsoever on Wolves contribution to an excellent game. Pretty typical I’m afraid.
They’re still blind (or blinded) by the revolution going on …
Suppose when it finally dawns on them .. we’ll be playing Champions League footie…
Let’s move stealthily forward….
Another very good performance from our boys. We are still learning in this division and will improve. Saiss was outstanding, he has grown into a very decent player.
Adama has an abundance of talent and I am seeing an improvement in his game, Nuno will get him right.
Watching the match on Sky it was like Liverpool v Liverpool, so biased and scant regard for Wolves. Disgraceful coverage.
Sending you all my best wishes for Christmas and the new year.
🙂
Onward’s & Upwards
We are rising steadily up the leagues. Slow but sure. Well, not that slow. But it’s not spectacularly and erratically—and that is good!
If we can finish 11th or 10th this season and 6th or 5th next season, that would be an excellent achievement.
Those of us who bet on the top six this season should write off our rash gamble and get foursquare behind the team.
We are on our way back to the top!
Maybe you can let those of us who have faith in Nuno think what we want.
Strange remark, Tim. If you have faith in Nuno, of course, you will be foursquare behind the team. My comment was supposed to address the tension between people being disappointed about losing their bets and supporting the best interests of the club, which could occur for those who bet on a top six place.
In my opinion, this tension has serious damaged the club in the past, especially when we escaped relegation on the last day of the season after losing 2-3 at home to Blackburn Rovers, then managed by Steve Kean, possibly the worst manager in the history of the Premier League. Before the match both the owner, Steve Morgan, and the manager, Mick McCarthy had said it was a “must-win” game. Morgan had hinted the previous week that, if we lost it that would show we had not improved that season. At half-time we were 0-3 down. It was a disastrous performance that should have had the fans demanding that McCarthy be sacked. Instead, the fans were delirious, many of them because they had won bets that Wolves would not be relegated. McCarthy was not sacked. This failure, despite the fact that Wolves had done worse than the previous season and performed lamentably in that “must-win” game, led to serious negative consequences for Wolves, eventually resulting in an embarrassing interregnum after a 1-5 loss at home to the Baggies and in a double relegation.
Wolves fans should have been appalled by Wolves performance but, instead, they were seduced into delirium at winning their bets. I hope this kind of awful mistake never occurs again.
I assure you I am firmly in the “In Nuno we trust” camp. There are some nuts on Twitter who are already starting to get bolshie. My message was addressed to those Wolves fans who might get on Nuno’s back if they look like losing their bet that Wolves would be in the top six.
From what you say, Tim, this does not apply to you. Of course, you have the right to think Wolves will finish in the top six, and you could be right.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL WOLVES FANS…
As usual, I’m a bit late to the party here, and most of my thoughts have been said already, but here’s a couple of thoughts to summarize my perspective.
Liverpool have an incredible team this year, way better than any other in the EPL, and perfectly capable of knocking 2-3 past anyone on a good day, be it Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, …, I’d be most surprised if they’re not crowned European Champions by the end of this season. No shame in our result whatsoever.
Having said that, I think Wolves gave as good as they got for most of the game, and for some better or luckier finishing, could have nicked something from it. I think the commentator summed it up well at half time when he said Wolves did everything but finish, and Liverpool finished exquisitely. That was the difference, really, and that will improve with experience and time. We just have to get better at taking chances first time at this level. Players still try to control and set up every chance, but by the time they do that, they are crowded out by the defence. There were so many chances that warranted a first timer, like Salah’s, but the extra touch saw the chance disappear. It’s OK, it’ll come.
I really thought it was a cracking game of football, actually, and although I didn’t like the result, I really enjoyed watching two teams play football without any drama, malice or negative tactics. End-to-end stuff, as every game should be played. I’d watch this game over any World Cup game we saw this summer any day of the week. No diving, no theatrics, … just an honest game of football. There was this one instance in the second half when Salah was through on goal and out of nowhere in came Coady and took him out, ball first. Salah just got up, dusted himself and gave Coady an atta-boy pat on the back in appreciation of a great tackle. Can you imagine if that was Neymar? He would have rolled over like a roly-poly for about 10 mins or until he got a penalty, whichever came first. Kudos to both Wolves and Liverpool for their no-nonsense, highly entertaining game.
And on a final note, I wish everyone would get off out players’ backs anytime they have a slightly off game. I think they are all giving their honest best, and off-game just happen. They are all very good players, playing as a team without ego. Let’s keep supporting them as they continue to improve. I write this as I watch Spurs put 6 past Everton at Goodison Park. This is how cut-throat this division is if you don’t bring your A-game. So far I think Wolves have done us proud in all games. We are 10th and getting better every game.
Bring on Fulham!
Go Wolves!!!
GW, fully agreed.
We’ll always have a few that feel that they can bemoan when we don’t have 7/10 players across the park.
I know I’m not on my own here but believe Neves WILL become great again very soon. Will score a screamer very soon. Costa to find his mojo (althou I’m stilll not fully sure of what a “mojo” is) very soon.
As far a Traore, if I’m right even the Egyption King Young Mo, wasn’t retained at Chelski & therefore we should keep the faith in Nuno cus we can trust in the starting 11 in any match he picks.
But, & it’s a heavy but! I think that Jan 19 & June 19 will see a number of new starters (loans rather than signings) & we’ll see a few go out the club that might not have been expected.
With Fosuns backing, we will continue to spend with improvements with each signing.
Merry Chrimbo all bloggers & wishing you all a very happy points filled New Year
This premier league is actually 3 leagues in one. A top six. A middle six and a bottom eight ( in itself divided in to two sub sections). Very rarely a result will come in that catches the eye.Palace at City. Leicester at Chelsea. But more often than not scores go according to plan. Spurs 6-2 at Everton. Liverpool at Wolves. And so it goes. The secret is to not get down hearted at a defeat against the Big Boys. More often than not it will happen. If you get something brilliant if not move on and target your fixtures. Our next four games include Spurs and City away. Fulham away.palace home. A tough run. I would be happy with 4 points out of that lot. Knowing us the 4 points will come at Spurs City! Wolves ay we .
Well we are nearly into Christmas and where are we? 10th in the premier league beating or at least giving a game to the top dogs.
Who would have taken that at the start of the season? I bloody would, and said thank you very much.
Trouble is our expectations grow and now we want to beat everyone including one of the best teams in the premier so far, Liverpool, and am disappointed when we don’t, that is a measure of how far we have come.
Getting ahead of ourselves? Maybe, but with a couple of signings from uncle George’s stable in January who knows………….Nuno knows, we only guess, but I would be happy if we stayed where we are or moved up a few places and really kick on next season.
Have just watched the Everton v Spurs game, when the 6th goal went in Mrs Lowves said to me “God we’ve got these on Saturday” I replied “yes but this is Everton we are Wolves” hows that for confidence?
Driving down to London on Christmas evening, staying in Uxbridge with Stu and the lovely Jen for Fulham, till after the Spurs game. Twix and the lovely Lillian joining us on Thursday to take in a show and the visit to Wembley.
It’s no longer a hard life being a Wolves supporter!
Well I for one am bloody jealous, ya bastids.
I’ve got my dear old mother in law in town for the week, and with two televised games while she’s here, I ‘ll get her into a Wolves shirt yet!!
