You could be forgiven for thinking the season ended last weekend.

Post Ipswich, most of the talk has been about planning for next year and coming back stronger.
I hope that hasn’t transferred to the players. Yes, Wolves are now an outside bet, but they’re still a bet.
As we saw last weekend with Derby and Brentford’s results against bottom half opposition, nothing can be taken for granted.
Forest and Blackburn won’t roll over for Ipswich, so it’s vital that Wolves do their bit and win both of their matches.
Wigan
The Latics come into the game still with an outside chance of survival. They’re five points off safety with two games remaining.
Interestingly, even a third bottom finish could see them safe if Rotherham have points deducted for fielding an ineligible player.
The DW has been the most prosperous venue in the Championship this season for visiting clubs. Wigan have only managed three home wins all season, losing 11.
Scoring goals has been the principle issue. With just 18 scored at home and 39 in total, only the two clubs sandwiching them inside the bottom three have managed fewer.
Giving Malky Mackay the flick so close to the end of the season suggests they’re already looking ahead to a rebuilding job.
Wolves
I was critical of Kenny Jackett for not changing things in that frustrating second half against Ipswich.
What I probably would have done for the final 20 minutes or so was withdraw one of the strikers and put an extra midfielder on, only because we simply couldn’t get the ball forward.
The problem Kenny Jackett has is that when names a team like the above, Wolves already have their best attacking players on the pitch. But sometimes personnel have to be sacrificed to improve the system.
Danny Batth is out for the season, which has been greeted by a mixture of responses. For me, he’s been reasonably consistent, save for the odd wobble. A 7/10 campaign I’d say.
It will be interesting now to see how Hause, Iorfa or Ebanks-Landell slot in alongside Richard Stearman. All offer more pace and physicality than Batth but lack experience.
The gaffer
Predictions
Winning both games is now the absolute minimum requirement. The ideal would be to win both handsomely in an attempt to overhaul Ipswich’s goal difference. That’s probably ambitious though.
I think it’s to our benefit that Wigan will go all out for the win, as it should ensure an open game, which suits Wolves down to the ground.
If the spaces are there, I’d like to think we can exploit and outgun a team struggling for goals.
3-1.
Up The Wolves!

Yes, going 3 – 1 as well.
Will be interested to see how DBs replacement goes. We’ve some capable defenders coming through.
Another frustrating outing.
Prepare for next season
Another frustrating outing.
Prepare for next season
I would just like to say to all the Wolves players and staff who read this blog (and that is probably most of them if they’ve got any sense) that the season is most definitely NOT over!
There are six points AND a bag full of pride to be fought for yet.
I think that, when all the excitement has died down and our personalised polo shirts are hanging in the wardrobe pressed and ready for next season, we will all agree that this has been a reasonably successful year.
A steep learning curve but one that the lads have climbed in a way that encourages for the next campaign.
There are improvements to be made and players to recruit in order to push on, but next year our young team will be more experienced and Kenny Jackett will hopefully have more fire power at his command.
So let’s have two performances of character and skill. Show the Championship (or The Premier League if things happen go our way) what they will be in for next season.
I will not be happy if I turn up next weekend for the Millwall match with nothing to play for.
It’s not a cheap weekend – I’m paying top prices to watch you lot, so I expect a bit of effort.
Starting tomorrow with a comfortable win over Wigan.
I’m with your optimism and focus DOOGooder …correct me if I’m wrong but a win tomorrow guarantees that nothing is decided until the last match of the season …
Then we’ll see who’s got a squeaky bum …
…’Wigan will go all out for the win, …should ensure an open game, which suits Wolves down to the ground’
Spot on, Thomas.
It’ll be interesting to see who Kenny goes with at the back, given he’s said he sees Hause’s future in the middle of the back four. That said, would he trust the young man given we’ve still got plenty to play for and can’t afford any slip-ups?
Hopefully our top four will mean we don’t have to worry too much about the other end of the pitch.
I’m backing Benik and Nouha to do the business and put the pressure on those above us.
I’m going for 4-0 because we need that sort of scoreline to stand any chance thrown our way by squandering teams around us. I think your team Thomas is about as good as we can hope for, my preference would be Henry for RVLP and that would be the team I have wanted to see for ages as Batth has definitely been off the mark for a wee while.
Like Doogooder, it costs me a lot of money to support you lot (wolves players reading this blog) tomorrow is no exception away games are not cheap. So if you want me to sing my heart out for the lads, then you have to play your heart out for the fans.
Don’t Feck these last two games up, and maybe, just maybe the luck Gods will smile on us.
I still agre with Kenny that some of you under achievers are playing for your futures over these next two games, we don’t just judge you on two games, a few of you have been to inconsistent, that was fine in League 1 but it hasn’t cut it this year and that’s not good enough, happy as we are with our lot this season, it could so easily have been a repeat of last year but for some terrible deliveries of the ball to opposition players.
So.
Come on you Wolves, Earn your corn the next two games, prove your worth the Magnificent support you get week in week out.
🙂
Su Wolf,
It’s not just the money, it’s the emotion and passion. Sometimes, I wonder whether the players fully appreciate just how much it means to us. I haven’t been to a match since Blues 0-0 because I am a professional sick-boy these days. I have early-birded. I will come next week if I can, I will give you a bell.
It’s not cheap to travel for me either, but it is worth the money and the time if the lads play with belief and conviction. This is what I expect to see. We can do this, with quite a measure of good fortune, but not if we capitulate.
Money means absolutely Zilch to me Jerry, never has and never will. Life is far too important to worship money, but it’s a principle with me and I am 100% behind you. Give me passion on the football field every Saturday and that will suffice.
I commented in support of Doogooder because that same morning I had read about Livepool fans wanting to boycott the Hull away game as Hull are charging them £50 a ticket. And if you read the minutes from Ben’s Fans Parliament then you will see as Iv’e noticed how certain teams have “Taken Advantage” of our fantastic away support and hiked the prices up. Moxey has been fighting our corner on that one.
We are being ripped off from Dawn til Dusk by greedy profiteers in football and I do believe there is a campaign in place to try for a single price (£20 is plenty, I think it’s called) . Even now when they have zillions from Sky some clubs refuse to drop their prices. It makes sense to stand amongst a full stadium that spurs the lads on, as opposed to an empty one that is lifeless and is devoid of atmosphere.
Greedy people never learn.
But we turn up in our Thousands as today at Wigan followind pipe dreams.
Hope you make it next Saturday, lot’s of folk were concerned for your health when you went into hospital so it would be great to see you at last. Give me a bell as you say, come and meet the “Leg End” that is Clive,he’s a nice guy like the rest of the bloggers on here.
Stu.
🙂
Well, this is certainly it, the defining moment. We win and Ipshit lose leaving everything on the last game of the season. Who would have thought that? All of us of course, because we am Wolves ay we!
Whilst Wigan have everything to play for, I do not believe they have the capability to hurt us, and whoever is put in DBs place at the back will want to show that they should stay there and defend to the death. I also believe that the Magic Boys will come alive too and score for fun, so:
Nothing at all wrong with a degree of rampant optimism Brompton. 🙂
I think you are very silly, predicting a crazy score like that.
I would NEVER do anything so daft, week in, week out!!
No dreamin of beach holidays tomorrow I hope … as Kenny says they might as well not get on the bus if that’s the case.
Personally I’d go for Ebanks-Landell at centre back, for experience alone..
Won’t be easy though without Batth but hope we just get over the line and keep our chance of the play offs still alive.
Mental or what .. wrong way around WOLVES TO WIN 2 – 1….
Too late mate, your first one will be recorded lol.
What are you doing on here?
You’re in NZ!!
Tuesday ….. I can still blog when I’m there too …. not that you’re a bastid …
Said by the man, whose Dreaming on a Beach in New Zealand.
Pot Kettle, Kettle Pot.?
Or am I thinking of Doogooder’s stash in his Kettle.
We’ll shout them on for you, you just enjoy the sunshine and don’t worry about us poor Wolves fans standing in the rain at Friggin Wiggin.
🙁
Top Bloke Stuey … I’ll be listening for the ‘Five for Clive’ chanting on the radio …..
If we score early then we could rout them..my personal player of the season Afobe walks on water for me..is worth a hat trick, but should in theory compete for the chances also with Super Dicko who’s also had a good season…
Our defence could be at its strongest ever and K Mac and co should be moving up the pitch..easy then..
That’s in theory…
I feel that Ipswich will slip up so here’s hoping..
It’s my phrase of the season..
COYW
Up we go – Optimism reigns with the rising moon….
Beware of “Creedence Clearwater revival”
We’ll make it into 6th on goal difference…stop laughing, it might happen!!
Sounds like you’re in Brighton already TW
Just had a look at the table. Anything can happen at the top. I had to chuckle when I looked at a possibility. If we beat Wigan and Millwall it could be that we are the team that confirms their relegation. If we also get into 6th spot and the results see both Boro and Norwich leapfrogging Bournemouth, and we end up playing and beating Bournemouth in the play offs what a season that would be. Another record possible – relegating two teams and stopping a team that has been top for most of season from going up.
Now that would most definitely make me smile.
Close, but no cigar
Ever hopeful 4-1
Going for a win and hopefully still hanging in there ahead of the last match.
Agreed Exiled
COYW!
It’s costing me a friggin’ mortgage to get to the last regular match of the season, so you lot stop whining about spending a few quid!!
I have every confidence in the lads to do their part in sinking Wigan pier back into the obscurity it deserves, and then follow up the next week putting the sword to Millwall and their obnoxious fans.
On another topic, and many of you wont believe this, but I read an interview with Tony Pulis, and he actually came across as a normal person.
Funny ol’ game, innit?
Still, FO wb
When he was at Stoke some friends of mine asked him a question ..
He was too busy to contemplate an answer because he had far more important business …. you’re wrong Clive …. he’s a dick he@d …
I aid he came across as a normal person, but what normal person would work at sandwell crem??
He does a fantastic amount for Charity, runs marathons, cycles and takes part in all manner of things. Comes across as a really nice bloke.
Come to think of it, So did Jimmy Saville!
🙁
Since last Saturday I’ve pretty well resigned myself to another season in the Championship, and it’s so disappointing when we could so easily have many more points if only………… if only!
Still, we should play with no inhibition in these last two fixtures and improve the goal difference, and I suppose it’s just possible we may get a top six finish after all.
Thanks Ben and Thomas for the great blog, which has added a lot to my appreciation of the Wolves’ season
A good attacking game with little real pressure will provide us with the 3 points. Then we can see what we need to do (along with others) next week.
Anything other than a clear win and our season is effectively over and as I’m not prepared to accept that situation until the fat lady is actually performing vocal gymnastics, then I have to predict a clear win.
I think it will be interesting to see one of the youngsters stepping in as centre back and I have few fears about the prospect. Ikeme is injured but I thought TK did well during his tenure so I’m fine with that too.
Although my prediction is more in hope than expectation, there is an element of expectation included.
I’m predicting a win ’cause we HAVE to win. Afobe and Dicko as scorers. Then we hope we score a bundle in the last game at the Mol.
We can still make the plays offs so it’s all to play for here. Let’s have 6 points please lads.
I agree with Thomas team wise but I would replace VLP with Jacobs personally.
UTW
As we all agree anything but a win and the season is over.
Whilst respecting Thomas’s view of the team I would make a few changes.
Bring in Doherty and move Iorfa to the middle,
No Van le parra or Sackho (played like a Jessie Last week. Instead use Henry & Jacobs on the flanks.
As always FOWB
Lets hope Sako gives us a couple before he buggers off to Villa or wherever
We have to win, they have to win. I think I would rather play against the top teams rather than those fighting for their lives at the bottom.
I hope I am wrong but I see it being a repeat of the Mol match.
Agree the players have still got to believe but personally i have got my flip flops on. Still think it has been a satisfying season with progress made.
Another season in the Championship will give the younger players and Kenny a bit more time to develop and build. I expect us to continue looking for new players in the transfer market even though we are not going to get the financial firework display some fans crave. We were all miffed when Wigan raised the stakes for Delort but he went back to France without scoring a goal and they took Leon Clarke on loan instead !
Against a dour, boring Ipswich hard-man team intent on just closing the game down we were stifled, yet we almost pulled it off. There just has to be a more exciting and open game tomorrow given what’s at stake for both teams. If so, this will suit our talented front line. We’re almost playing just for pride but amazingly we still have a chance of the playoffs. Just go out and play without fear or tension. You can do it lads. Some you will be playing for your places too.
I’m one of those who think the enforced defensive changes may be a blessing in disguise for us.DB has had a poor time of it lately and I’m unconvinced he has the pace or concentration against even Championship players.
Hoping we can deliver in what will be dog-fight against Wigan and then head for a last day lottery with all to play for.
Come on the lads and let me really enjoy my Saturday night pints.
I hope its back to business after the last 3 results.
Still in with a chance after last weeks results,I would love it if we pipped that big nose bastard to the post ,just love it.
Anyway its been a halt decent season, but still can’t why we didn’t invest when we had the chance.
Not going to start with any recriminations not just yet,not until the seasons done one way or another.UTW.
Season is finished.. best not to delude ourselves. Wigan will probably win this 1 0
Keeping the faith! We will just sneak into the play offs. Tickets for Milwall bought and I will fly in and watch it so expect that we have all to play for.
Will the bloggers meet up before the Millwall game for a pint or 2?
UTW!
Yes mate. Already planned. Will be in A Parkview Hotel prior to the game and certainly afterwards too. We are expecting quite a few bloggers to be there mate.
I should be there after the game if i am not detained. I have heard someone is doing an american style barbeque on the rear car park and RB might turn up. Just rumours.
B should be P apologies Planty see you soon mate.
Great. I look forward to it!
I understand Stu has been in contact (so he told me at Wigan today) so I look forward to meeting you on the 2nd mate. I am sure you will enjoy the atmosphere at the Bloggers Ball!!
Clemens.
Well done mate, you kept your promise, we shall all be there having some fun on the evening before the match morning and hopefully after the match. Lets hope for better than the last game.
Tell us your program amd we can meet up and give you some Wolverhampton hospitality. I thoughtlessly left you in the lurch on your last visit. If you haven’t booked your hotel yet we can help you there also.
Stu Wolf
Hopefully a lot more to celebrate this time – if not a championship!
Thanks a lot – I have booked everything already but I appreciate your offer! Unfortunately due to private commitments I am only able to fly out in the afternoon from Denmark so I will drive up form London and arrive at around 10pm on Friday night. I will stay at the Premier Inn at Broad Gauge Way this time.
I will be happy to join up for a beer on the Friday if you are still going strong at that time. Otherwise I will join you before/after the game. If you have a number I can reach you at it would be great – you can e-mail me at clemze@ofir.dk
Flying out Sunday evening 8.30 from London.
From where are you flying in from, at?
Denmark, so not exactly travelling around the globe for this game. Last game was the Derby away game which was painful.
As has been said before, we need to win so will expect nothing but two wins.
Too little too late. Overall we are where we deserve to be. If you buy donkey clarke instead of Afobe to start, and skimp over callum wilson, it’s what you get. An “almost”. I would be happy with 8th if I knew we wouldnt lose key players come end of season. If we could keep our front line and use next season to strengthen the back and middle, then I would be much happier with our chances of making it in the big league. We’ll see.
Go Wolves!
I didn’t know Afobe was available before we actually bought him. I’m surprised someone else didn’t snap him up.
Wolfstroker
In andwer to your wuestion and proof Kenny reads this blog, thiswas posted today.
http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/04/24/wolverhampton-wanderers-boss-kenny-jackett-explains-why-he-did-n/?
Bloody Hell.
Trying to write on a moving Wolves coach en-route to Wiggin, honestly.
In answer to your question and proof Kenny reads this blog, this was posted today.
http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/04/24/wolverhampton-wanderers-boss-kenny-jackett-explains-why-he-did-n/?
Yeah, I’d seen that Stu. That explains why no one else bought him until he’d proved his fitness. Proving to be our best purchase in many a long year though.
I always thought that people in Wigan probably wore wigs. Last time I went there nobody wore a wig which sort of scuppered my theory. But on the balance of probability I expect at least 2 people to wear wigs when I next set foot in that town tomorrow. On the basis that 2 people in Wigan wear wigs I suspect Wigan will get 2 goals. Wolves will get 3 via ‘The Magic’ for no other fuckin reason than I love Wolves Fc.
Business as usual on the blog – stoking up the hopes, revising the calculations about who needs to do what, all of that getting increasingly desperate! And in the last three games our hopes have been particularly cruelly dashed and our calculations thwarted. So it’s certainly time for that killer run to come to an end and our hopes to be amply rewarded. I’ve predicted on that basis, but the gap between me and the top of the PL is similar to the gap between Wolves and whoever’s now top – and there’s no playoff place to fight for in the PL! And whatever, we’re going to get some clues about back fours of the future tomorrow! Sako should be aiming to fire us towards the Prem, at least to give himself some choice over his future.
Triple whammy ; DB out, CI out and Rotherham deducted 3 points giving Wigan everything to play for.I sense seasons’ end tomorrow.
I remember feeling trepidation when I heard the first team selection that involved Iorfa against one of the top teams (that South coastal team, was it?) and look what a success that was. So maybe it’s KH or E-L + TK in and a great success, Wigan know it’s shit or bust and neglect Afobe and Dicko and we get what we need! Oh that hope drug!! COYW!
I’m strangely looking forward to this one sorted the coach this morning so will be there with 4,497 other Wolves fans, my brother and his young lad included.
We always have said through out the years we’ve being watching Wolves away that we hope to score a least once so we can go mental for a minute there nothing worse than losing away and not scoring.
I’ve gone for 1.1 I don’t know why I think the players heads have gone to be honest, Sako’s is thinging Villa or WBA, and the rest are probably thinking Europe or the Caribian.
And Jacketts thinking how much am I going to get for new players will Morgan sell the Crown Jewels Afobe, McDonald and Dicko.
Me, I’m thinking if only, what if, will we………………….
6 minutes from Chastity, I’m the steward on Coach 9 today, stick your head through the door and say hello.
P.S
Kenny please plat the strongest team lose Van Parra bring Jacobs back.
If wishes were pounds we’d all be on footballers’ wages
They get paid so much because wishes cost.
We live in hope. Optimism – it’s the only way to be.
come on me babies, it aint over not just yet
I do like how you reach your predictions cheeseburger….
Based on 2 people in wigs you expect 2 goals…. So is that a 2pee? (Sorry the toupee gag may be taking it a bit too far)
Hopefully take the play off battle into the final game. They have to win which should give us space to exploit on the counter attack.
Henry or Jacobs for me rather than Van la Parra.
No brainer – comfortable Wolves win.
if we had been offered this situation at the start of the season I’m sure most would have taken it so let’s be positive go for it and carry on until the last game
No problem as long as Ipswich/Bentford falter. Henry instead of VLP and E EL at CB for me. We might still make the play-offs.
Tally Ho
Evening shrew wolf. 2 p or not 2 p. That is the question…. anyway wolves ay we. Win or lose still on the booze !
Well after attracting comment for being negative last week I’m going all out happy clappy bring it on with a 3-0 win. Too little, too late? Maybe, maybe not. We’ll see.
Iceni,
Nothing meant by it in any way, just trying to pump up the troops with false hopes of beating Ipshite. But I do like your new score
I knew that … Accepted it in the same vein but thanks anyway
let’s smash ’em!
come on me babbies
We are consistent at dropping points against bottom 3 teams with a head scratching performance.
Wolves to win. ….
slaughted so gorra be brief!!!!!
We should hit them on the break a few times.
I posted several weeks ago that I thought the first words off most fans’ lips as the final whistle blows after Millwall will probably be “if only”. A good season but not a great one, a good team but could become a great one in time, a good manager who may become great in time and a proven pair of twats who have still failed to grasp the basic fact that when momentum is with you that is when you should make your biggest investment otherwise momentum will be lost.
I’m hoping we’ll out score them & do our goal difference some favours. Maybe having to reorganise at the back will focus the mind & we’ll get a clean sheet. Come on me babbies!
MUST end the season with a bang!
This will be my 8th game away at Wigan. Awful ground for lack of atmosphere. Let’s hope 4500 Wolves fans are celebrating that the season is back on, come 5pm.
Few twists and turns to come yet. Can they do it? Or are they burnt out already?
Lost my rose tinted glasses around 1:15 last Saturday. Everything is looking a bit more grim this week
We were the form side going into the last 5 games of the season following 5 wins on the trot. We’ve picked up only a single point since and I see no reason to see why things will change this afternoon. A gloom has set in over Finsbury Park and it will take a lot to lift it. I love Wolves, don’t get me wrong. The 13 hours spent attending home matches is a pleasure, greatly enhanced by the London Wolves and I look forward to it more than anything. I sometimes reflect on how frustrating it is to be a Wolves fan, especially when we lose, but it doesn’t diminish my support or desire to see us succeed. I sometimes think I’m the only one who cares as I don’t live or work with any Wolves fans and perspective gets distorted through isolation but match day always demonstrates as a reminder of what a wonderful, passionate, vibrant club I support full of brilliant, opinionated fellow fans.
We have a poor record at Wigan and I don’t really believe we’ll get a positive result today but, just like the majority of predictors here, I’m putting a Wolves win in the hope it will come true and there’ll be something to play for against Millwall. I’m more confident of Ipswich, Brentford & Derby all screwing up today than of us taking all 3 points but I’ll be tuned in at 3pm making every kick, header and tackle as always.
Come on Wolves, now is the time.
With all the away fans there it should sound like a home game with that I hope the players do us proud that’s why I’ve gone for the win COYW
Feeling optimistic. It’ll be interesting to see who replaces DB. I think he’ll go for Ebanks Landell as he has a little more experience than Hause at this vital stage of the season. And Afobe is aiming to get to 35 for the season, so we can count on him making an extra special effort to get at least two.
I for one think it’s been a very positive season, and another season building a robust, competitive and skilful team in the Championship wouldn’t be a bad thing. Next season in the top tier is, I feel, too soon. Leicester ran away with Championship last year, but it looks at this moment we’ll be entertaining them at Molineux in 2015/16.
It might be a bit late, but winning the last two games would still be useful – a lot can happen, as we know – in the event of slip-ups elsewhere.
Its a pity there is a rule that says someone on loan can`t play against his own club. Wigan are not prolific, but with Leon in their side, couldn`t see them scoring at all today.
Normally I wouldn`t consider going with Clive`s score prediction, but as I`m looking forward to seeing him next week, and we need the goals and the three points, why ever not. Wigan will be going for the win, so will we, an entertaining game with lots of opportunities for our pacey front five to cause havoc. I`ll just finish my cup of tea, then down to the station for the 11.17 to Wigan. Come on you wolves!!!
good preview there mate and one I agree with. A few of us, near where I sit in the south bank have been discussing batth all season so its interesting hearing other opinions. I think a 7/10 season for him is about right and good progression for him. Shame his season has ended in injury. Id like to see Iorfa slot in at CB with matt Doherty at right back. It might not work but could be worth a try. As for today I really cant see any problems. If we dont make silly mistakes at the back we’ll score at the other end and the rest will take care of itself.
A Clive score and a 3-0 win to Forest would be the perfect day today.
That would put us back in 6th barring a Brentford win because we’ll be level on GD by will have scored more goals.
Five for Clive… Five for Clive…Five for Clive… Five for Clive…Five for Clive… Five for Clive…Five for Clive… Five for Clive…Five for Clive… Five for Clive…Five for Clive… Five for Clive…
Can’t argue with the team that Thomas has put up but I would like to see Jacobs on the pitch at some time. Just the sort of game for another Jacob’s cracker.
Bit of a too little too late after the last few games ????
We can still do this
Big win for us, in vain I fear
It’s simple, we’ve got to win and I think we will. It’s not over yet
Easy.
Next weekend, Derby Ipshite and Brentford to lose, and us to win 20 – 0
No pressure then.
1-0 will do it if Derby lose and Brentford don’t win.
The lack of investment is starting to look as if it could be very costly.
Brentford play Wigan when we play Millwall IF Derby loose and we win Brentford 6th on GD..,
Tragic.
Iv’e never in all my time as a Wolves fan witnessed such a spectacle. Needed the loo at half time, thought I’d leave it till nearly ko for second half. Went down under the stand and it was heaving wall to wall singing , dancing fans bouncing up and down to “theyr’e magic you know, Dicko, Afobe, Sako.”
The actual floor was bouncing up and down like the millennium bridge in London. It was rising and falling at least 3 – 4 “. Just an incredible feeling. What a day, buzzing again.
Result poor for our needs but 3 points in pocket and all is still not lost. Got to go through it all again next week.
Trying to get tickets for my nephew, but struggling to get 5 together, now that’s a great sign.
🙂
There’s been many a haircut style… but Afobes new ponytail is… well… I’m lost for words…
I believe any new haircut has to have a name… I think this one is called “The Stears”.
I think shears would be more appropriate.
StuWolf… Regardless of whether Wolves make it this season, will not take away the memory and feelings of this game for you and all those others that went to Wigan.
Every few seasons you get one game and think that all the financial outlay of tickets, travelling, bloggers shirts, etc… was worth it for that moment.
Hopefully getting the playoffs spot at home will be another of those moments and even more supporters will share it.
It will be so hard to swallow getting 78 points and not getting a playoff spot, but equally as difficult to accept not going all out for a win against Millwall.
Jacket could relegate his old team (where he is held in high esteem) and put us back on the path to promotion in his final “league season ” game, joining Watford, another of his managed clubs. What a mind bender for him.
Can someone tell me why people always blame lack of investment? Does this mean that if a miracle happens next week and we sneak into the playoffs and then go up that we invested the perfect amount? If you feel wolves have invested badly try supporting Derby. Full of expensive loans who will leave in May!! I just don’t understand It. I think they have invested the perfect amount to build a side capable of challenging. The fact we will probably finish short is because we threw away a 3 goal lead at milwall or because we made a mistake against Blues!! It’s all ifs and buts but the fact remains I think we have a good squad and I’m happy with the progress we are making
You’re bang on the money there, and money is not the answer all of the time! Like you I am more than happy with the squad & the progress this year. Look at the youngsters KJ has brought on.
Afobe was or is the missing link, its all might have beens because we needed him at the season’s start. It may well have been a completely different story then.
But thats life thats football, you don’t always get the breaks. Next season should be a good one, if we don’t make it on Saturday courtesy of some freak results.
But I have enjoyed this season, and the Wolves from where I am sitting look strong & on the way to better things.
Footballs a gamble on players be that loan players or buying players. Every club in the land gambles when buying a player from Chelski to chesterfield. So to say Derby have balls up by having expensive loan players is wrong.
That’s the hole idea having them on loan so if it doesn’t work out you send then back.
I agree mate. We are probably going to miss out on goal difference or possibly by a point or 2. Only 3 teams can go up and the other 21 could say we should have invested more. I would suggest we have one of the lower wage Bills in the top teams maybe Brentford and Ipswich less possibly. I cannot understand what people want? I want us to get promoted this season not just because I want to see them in the premier league but because I want to see where the people who complain about the investment all the time take there argument then?
Also it’s easy to sit and say we should have invested more but harder to suggest who we should have invested in. To find a player like Afobe in the January transfer window was a master stroke but no praise will go to the board for that one. Jackett always said he would only buy players who will improve the squad and those players are not easy to find, especially not in January and without spending silly money. Our current squad is young, hungry and perfect to have new players filtered into slowly to improve it. we also kept hold of sako which was good business in itself. Shows me the squad is tight and happy together and It will take a real head turn move to leave. Can’t wait for next season whatever league we are in
The optimist within keeps whispering in my ear…….Bakary may give us another year. It’s not impossible.
My point is the way we have invested means that next season we can go again with mostly the same squad. Having already spent a season together that spirit and unity could be the difference next season. Where as Derby will say bye bye to their best players unless they get promotion and can spend big money buying them. I feel as though if neither of us get promotion then out investment strategy has worked out better than theirs and the fruit of this will be shown next year
Fair point Ben…. and those players we wanted on loan may come to us (if they are worthy).
Not Wood I hope!
