If you were still unsure whether or not Wolves did good business in the summer, I imagine this game provided a definitive conclusion.
Adama Traore takes the headlines for the most obvious contribution but his fellow recruits all showed why they’re worthy of immediate selection at the expense of last season’s heroes.
Rui Patricio excelled with a string of international class saves that were just as important as anything going on at the other end of the pitch. He has probably been the outstanding goalkeeper of the Premier League season to date.

Given his horror miss and the header he directed straight at Fabianski, you could suggest it was an afternoon to forget for Raul Jimenez but I’m still mightily impressed with his overall game. He’s always involved, always asking questions and most importantly of all, always getting on the end of crosses. I would say he has improved the team.
The same can definitely be said of Joao Moutinho who glides across the pitch, making neat contributions and seemingly improving each and every week. He was my Man of the Match yesterday for cumulative brilliance.
Jonny Castro is certainly no Barry cialis tadalafil Douglas, but what he does do very well is keep the ball, recycle possession and keep Wolves in the ascendancy. Not to mention being rock solid defensively.
That brings us back to Traore whose mere presence on the pitch creates an aura of inevitably that something is about to happen.
Funnily enough, West Ham had crowded him out well having obviously planned for his arrival. That is right up until he turned on the after burners to strike the decisive blow.
There was a lot of noise on his arrival at the club that it was an area of the pitch that didn’t require strengthening but none of our other wide players would have scored that goal.
The raw power and rapid acceleration mark him out as a standout performer at any level and as keen as we all are to see what he can do from the start, there can probably be no better impact player from the bench.
Nuno has used him intelligently to date resisting the urge to insert him straight into the eleven, but as with the others it’s clear he has the ability to take an already capable side to a whole other level.
Exciting times indeed.

That was a 1-0 thrashing!
Lowves, Mrs Lowves, Jen de Wolf, Rick Rak and me witnessed daylight robbery of the best kind, we pummelled them in the first half and struggled to put it all to bed in the second half. Up steps Moutinho, snatches the ball off Sanchez, lays it through to Bonatini who went off on a run and slotted a sweet ball to Traore who was already off on his run. Took his ball into the box and bish bosh bang, finished.
Squeaky bum time, thought it was gonna be a 0-0 but we grabbed it, how sweet that was.
Wolves 12th man were epic after it went in, scenes inside the lifeless ground and on the way to the coaches were unbelievable.
That was jolly enjoyable. Think I may indulge in several alcoholic beverages. It is all kicking off in the Queen Vic and Grant Mitchell is attempting to eat Dr Leggs surgery. Dott Cotton has thrown herself off a railway bridge. And Ian Beales chip shop is on fire. And there is a chap in the Square in a Wolves shirt giving them all the wanker sign. Massive win. Fabulous. Wolves ay we!
2mill paid off Traore fee already
Every body now has a little taste of the prem
Time to express ourselves and rip it up
Utw
Nuno had a dream,
To build a football team, with Chinese owners and a wonder kid from Portooooo,
With 5 at the back, and pace in attack, we’re Wolverhampton we’re on our way back…
Da da da da da da !lol
Welcome back, Young Christopher.
Ello Clive!
Aaaaadama Traoreeeee!
I see the sign is thanking us for our support. Can’t be for those not in the empty seats!
Fantastic to see us off the mark.
Fantastic wolves. Some of our build up play was excellent in the first half, but we lacked that clinical edge in the final third. In the second half some of our defending could be described as desperate at times, with Rui Patricio making 2 excellent saves (one with his head, we heard the slap from where we were sat).
I must admit I did get twitchy every time Arnautovic got on the ball, he looked their most likely outlet and their biggest threat going forward.
Traore again changing the dimension of the game when he came on, he’s looking more and more a bargain at 18 million.
All in all a brilliant away day and a well deserved 3 points.
P.S. I must mention how excellent again Boly and Bennett were. They were both superb at the back and if I could a joint man of the match I’d give it to them pair.
– Wilshere joined the wrong team. He must be gutted :=)))
Uuuuup the Wolveeees!!!
Thank god he did – not good enough for the Wolves
I’m so proud.
Thank you Nuno
Thank you Fosun
Thank you all the players.
Fan bloody tastic.
Couldn’t get a ticket. ..gutted doesnot cover it.
Especially as my son in law went and he’s a hammer ?
I asked him how we looked and he said we looked solid.
Unlike the mmers
Till next time ..I thank you
Exit stage lefto
Brilliant three points we are on our way!!!!
Nunno is King.
This is going to be an exciting season..
Lowves, Mrs Lowves, Rik Rak, Jen de Wolf, me and 2993 others witnessed daylight robbery of the sweetest kind. We spanked them in the first half, made heavier weather of it second half, but Nuno’s dogged tenacity for perfection, effort and more determination won the day for us.
Moutinho snatched the ball off Sanchez who fell asleep with boredom, clipped it through to Neves who picked out Bonatini. He set off on a run to atone for the absolute howler of a sitter he missed a few minutes earlier, he slotted it through to Traore who was already up to full steam. Traore picked up drove for goal and slipped in a sweet goal.
Cue he 12th man.
The place erupted in our block, he ground emptied quicker that Iv’e ever seen anywhere and we went into rapturesof Nuno had a dream, we sang it all the way back to the coaches and in the carpark it continued for ages.
Great day, thoroughly deserved by Wolves and loved by the fans.
Sod the international break, I want more, more more.
Strategic win puts us in the top half ..what a f++++g miss though
Rather embarrassing that almost as much as West Ham
Here we go then..
Need a striker ASAP
Lol. I see Stevie lad that you received a few dislikes. Just saying lol.
Missed the game as am at my youngest son’s wedding. After (so far) 11 beers, 8 glasses of wine plus a Pimms and a couple of glasses of Champagne – but the night is still young – I am breaking my absence from the Blog just to say ………….YES! We are WOLVES!
Get your arse back on here bedders, it’s only a blog, we used to have to walk 5 miles as a kid to call someone a prick, it’s just now you can’t smack someone 100 miles away.
It’s just a larf.
Presume you were there Stu
The noise from us was immense
seems like we just can’t finish the job give or take the last gasp which was really Fantastic..
If we had a great striker we would be up there at the top as we seem to allways make chances .
As always Steve, I do agree with you, we both fought long and hard to get our squeaky leaky defence sorted, well now it is. So lets move on with the rest.
Vinagre and Ryan Giles are more than good enought to fill the attacking wingbacks boots if required. Siasse proved yesterday he can compliment in a few areas and would be an automatic for Neves or Moutinho.
We have oodles waiting to play up front again and they are all capable of scoring from every angle.
BUT, we do need an Aguerio, Salah, Kane, or Mitrovich, someone who is a real threat, a real accomplished finisher who when on the pitch will take people away from Jota, Costa and Traore, leaving those guys to dance their Samba footy and lay passes into a red hot goal scorer.
But at the moment, as Clive said, “6 goals from 6 different scorers”, sounds really familiar. We went on to good things last year with that formation, but I do still crave that exciting individual who scares the shite out of teams just by being in and around the box.
Going steady on the booze then Bedders, get in their Wolves.
Yo, Witters, told you I was working on him.
Amazing what non shirt piss taking will do!
Oops, said I wasn’t going to mention the fact that I gotta new top months ago, seems like, and poor ol’ Bedders ain’t got one yet!
Need to work on the Newarks now as they are still not posting.
You do that Brompton he’s a lovely bloke who we meet at a few away games.
Really miss some of the absent posters on here who make this blog what it is …one on its own
And we won’t be posting Steve, sorry. Us “plastic” fans don’t count don’t forget – no season ticket ffs ! How can we comment on The Wolves when we only go to 15-20 games a season and only spend £2k on travel/tickets/hotels/meals etc – how shit is that ? We love you bloggers – and you know who you are but we are quite happy just to meet up at games now. Always loved this blog and tbh I still read it sometimes but don,t ever call us PLASTIC fans !
Yo, Mr and Mrs Plastic!!!
If you are plastic, then what does that make me?
There are those who have season tickets, up to date gear, tattoos all over themselves, call themselves Wolves fans, and then spend all game, and all night in the pub, slagging off the team, the manager and anything else their tiny minds can come up with to complain about.
Inverted snobs, I call them.
The type who bitch all life long about not being able to have a Rolls Royce, then gleefully stating, on their deathbed, “See I was right!”
That sort of mentality cannot be argued with, unless it’s a fist up the head, and you are well above that.
Take no notice of the detractors, you will never win against that sort of moron, and you don’t need to lower yourselves into their gutters.
No, come back on the blog, we miss you.
And, you know there is a better class of piss taking on here!!
We love ya.
Fowb
Don’t know who said what, and frankly who gives a damn, they’re obviously wrong. If your one of us, your one of us, and we will all stand beside you should a show of strength and solidarity be required, you don’t even have to ask.
Plastic is for spending or for not throwing into the sea, Wolves fans are loyal and for life, get yersel back yam and where you belong. There is a sense of community and family here that others don’t have, and as other bigger personalities on here have already said you’re missed.
Don’t be a stranger, and don’t let the idiots run the asylum we all know that’s never a good thing, and may I be the first to welcome you back and look forward to your views on every game, this is your site too, don’t you dare give up on us.
Don’t take it to heart mate. I have recently been called a plastic fan as I have got a Season Tkt for the first time, but I ignore the comment. This blog brought us all together, so I will continue. Hope to see you at the Burnley game mate. I will be in the APV pre and post match buddy.
Well said Brompton very sad Newark feels this way we are all Wolves fans, sorry we can’t meet you at the APV we enjoyed meeting you at the bloggers bash, having to travel up and back to matches on the same day at the moment.
Take care mate.
Wolves Aye We.
Same here mate. I am only going to APV for coffee and meeting other blogggers.
Well said indeed, Brompto.
It used to be the only thing plastic about you was your tent, but even that’s been upgraded to canvas this summer!
Hi Mr Mrs Newark very sad to hear that from true Wolves fans, we do not have season tickets for same reason as you work and family commitments, we are members, l would not let who ever it was spoil your brilliant relationship with this blog.
Hope you are both keeping well.
Mr Mrs Dorset Wolf.
Post when we’re winning
You only post when we’re winning.
Seriously though, welcome back Bedders.
Meanwhile, have another drink!
Think you hit the post with that one doogle.
Welcome back bedders.
Good to see you on here Bedders.
Welcome home Bedders. You’ve bin missed.
At last. It has been coming. Pity it’s the international break next week. COYW.
That’s the way to do it.
http://www.nowsports1.com/2018/09/01/video-adama-traore-goal-west-ham-0-1-wolves/
The defender tried to trip Traore but was just too slow.
Fantastic result.
A classy goal with a nice assist from Bonatini as well as a deadly finish from Traore. Difficult to pick a MOM. A very good team performance.
I have come to the conclusion that Nuno is a Zen Master.
He remains so cool during press conferences and interviews no matter how inane or stupid the questions fired at him are.
And he keeps the mantra of ‘constant improvement, playing each match with our style no matter who the opponents are, forgetting the last game and concentrating on the next’.
And although he is searching for perfection, he recognises that he will never attain it because there is always scope for improvement.
Today was typical of that. We did superbly but can, and will get better.
To quote a character from the 70s TV series ‘Kung Fu’:-
“Patience Grasshopper”.
I’m off to do a spot of meditating over a rather large Remy Martin.
See you all in the next incarnation.
Burnley at home I think.
I find his answers to questions are just trying to avoid actually saying anything useful so they won’t ask him any more questions.
Very unprofessional.
And if you listen to most of the inane questions he gets asked, it is quite understandable why he doesn’t want to answer them!!
Nuno is the height of professionalism, a really class act.
Can you imagine the grunting responses people like Colin or mcDickwadhead would give?
Remind me to cancel your invitation to my ‘Zen Wolves on Tour’ celebration.
I do agree Tim, except I think it’s very professional rather than unprofessional.
What do you think about when people asked him about Leo’s goal giving him a confidence boost and him saying the only thing that matters is that he (Nuno) has confidence in him? What an arrogant comment!
And instead of congratulating Adama on scoring his first Premier goal, he said what really matters is now many goals you score. He wants to keep all of the glory for himself.
Patricio makes great saves. It’s his job.
Neves has a great game. It’s what I tell him to do. I’m the coach. Praise me.
You have always got to find something negative, something to bitch about, don’t you?
That sort of thinking was for the dinosaur era of greasel and morgan, when most of us couldn’t see any light on the horizon.
When are you going to embrace and enjoy the new order?
When are you coming out of your cave?
Having a different opinion is one thing, and I applaud you for it.
Being utterly negative about everything is pathetic, and more in keeping with the sandwell shadow dwellers.
Open your eyes and live the dream with us!
If you won’t or can’t, then there is little hope for you.
Hi Tim
I’ve followed your comments over the past few weeks from afar.
I agree with Clive’s comments that you are absolutely entitled to your own point of view, but why be so negative, mate?
Are you JIWAL in disguise?
UTW!
Hammers fan maybe…
Jiwal; there’s a horror name from the past. The old ‘TeamTalk’ days!
Didn’t JIWAL write in ALOB or am I getting mixed up?
(John Ireland Whinge A Lot) shows how old it is!
Correct! I have one or two old copies somewhere and he did appear in there…
Yep, Burnley at home Mark. See you there.
Brilliant result. I felt for Jiminez when the ball got stuck under his feet. People will give him grief for that, but things like that happen. I rate the guy, he fits in to Nuno’s system well. When we all gell together I anticipate even better. I agree, patience is key.
Wolves ay we.
Despite his unfortunate miss, I felt Raul had his best game yet, and he’s had some good ones. Great player.
And I will reiterate wot I’ve said before.
I would rather have no out and out strikers, who can get injured, suspended or go off the boil, and have the goals spread around.
Six goals this season so far, six different scorers.
My cases are rested.
Cant say i disagree with you clive brrr….did i just say that ????
Agree wholeheartedly mate.
No need whatsoever.
My first trip to the stadium but it is a long day to get there, mini-bus > underground > central london spoons in baker street > underground > walk > walk around stadium > the endless stairs & steps
Then after the game repeat in reverse > result:
1) i’m proper fect
2) 3 superb points that made it all worth while
MOTM – Bennett, closely followed by Jao, Johnny, Wily, Rui & Adama and as always 12th man
+ some compliments from “ammers” fans saying how good we looked & that we’ll do well in the prem…..
proper FOwb Wolves Ay We
Little Johnny was in his Jr. High school civics class when the teacher asked the class what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up, fireman, policeman, salesman, etc. Johnny was being unusually quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.
“My dad has had a hard time finding work after getting out of prison for child molestation but he works part time as an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret. He also makes meth in the basement for me to sell here at school and sometimes, he pimps off my mom and my 2 older sisters.”
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other students to work on a reading assignment and took little Johnny aside to ask him, “Is that really true about your father?” Johnny answers “No, he plays for West Bromwich Albion, but I was too embarrassed to say.”…
Good joke but I find I don’t have much time for lower league teams.
Someone wrote this on twitter and I couldn’t agree more….
A Rolls Royce footballer. @JoaoMoutinho plays the game with a grace and style that is a joy to behold. An absolute pleasure to watch him play for @wolves. He could play in carpet slippers and smoking jacket, glass of brandy in hand. Such a thrill that he plays for my club. #wwfc
Spot on Stu. He reads the game so well – his positioning is excellent and always seems to be in the right place and has the skills set to go with it. But of course he and Ruben are far too similar to play together (my arse ?!). I think Ruben will learn so much from him this season. UTW!
Bloody eck Geoff, not seen you on here for ages. Welcome home. What a time to be a Wolves fan.
It sure is mate.
Great to see the team gradually improving in the Prem game by game.
Need to get Cav fit now, which may help in the final third to convert those chances.
Only downside for me was my inability to get an away season ticket, so like yesterday, I had to rely on scraps from my mates and my nipper’s mates.
UTW!
It’s all been said above really. I, like everyone, am bloody ecstatic about the way we are performing. But I would add this.
Yesterdays saves and others in other games, especially against Citeh last week, means for me, Patricio has more than justified his transfer fee already.
Absolutely Wolfie what a brilliant intelligent signing.
He’s cost nowt so far, but if you mean he would be worth what we offered which was what 18mill Euros, then yeah I would agree with that.
He is defo up there and a lot smarter than John Burridge
Watched the game on hesgoal channel . good picture but about a minute and a half behind which when your listening to the live commentary on the radio can be a tad like knowing whats going to happen in your life before it happens. very strange.
Wasn’t a good game to watch , too many stray passes and a complete lack of effort from west ham who as shearer said later on motd seemed happy to just stroll around.
Wolves tried to get the game going but the ammers just killed it.
They are in big trouble . i get the impression the players dont like the old silver fox.
Nuno master class in substitutions which totally changed the game in the last 10.
Bonatini makes such a difference to that side and the addition of vinagre and traore just made west ham give up. mind you it was hot out there.
Bloody international break , what a load of cobblers. We are just starting to get to grips with the demands of the prem and could really do without it.
Anyway our first win is on the board and here”s to plenty more of those .
utw
I was watching it live on a foreign channel in a local boozer by me. The channel was about 2 minutes behind so we knew we had scored before the goal came on the picture. Strange that you know the goal is coming but nice in a way because we also knee the final whistle had blown and we had won with two minutes to go on the telly!
Well we needed that win, will keep the confidence building and the extra points put us into the top 10 where we should be.
Unlucky game for Jimenez perhaps he was thinking of his mexico internationals and a trip back home.
Has Patricios fee been decided or will him buying his contract up mean that he will be on a free ? if not when will the decisions be expected ?
When you watch the Liverpool goalie getting too confident and the possible fee we may pay – what a bargain.
Wolves Ay We.
I’m very pleased Traore won the game for us to spare Jimenez’ blushes. I don’t think he’ll make many misses like that; after all, running sideways/backwards, and trying to kick a ball while turning is not that easy. I know it’s what strikers are expected to do, usually, but Raul will be scoring lots more difficult goals than that in the weeks to come.
I’d bet he be our top goalscorer this season, although goals will continue to come from all the team.
I’ve only just stop crying my eyes up….. I was the only one who predicted a 0 v 0 and after 93 minutes I was seemingly on my way to 3 prediction league points when up pops Traore the Tank and fires us into the lead…… GET IN….
My prediction league title hunt will have to wait…
Not bothered though as a Wolves Win away takes precedent…. can’t wait for Man Utd away providing I can get a ticket….
Just had a horrible thought Clive mate … it could be Traore v Wardinio next up… whooo whooo…
Jen de Wolf is doing her walk for Dementia on Sunday next week, she’s roped me in to support her, if anyone feels like the can support a cause close to her heart, please donate through the link, anything will do.
Thanks in anticipation.

Ryan Bennett for England ! ! Another outstanding performance — and we got him for free. ! !
Good to see Leo returning to form. He mad a big difference when he came on.
Wolves could have been playing against 10 ment again yesterday. And Kompany could have been sent off last week.
Interesting pattern.
Wasn’t there & MOD didn’t mention a possible sending off for West Ham.
But as the Everton & Leicster games proved it’s tough to play against 10 men& thus far we’ve not been able to cash in the advantage.
It was a punch to the head, or face.
The commentators mentioned it and they even showed replays of it and noted that he should have gotten a red card.
The stream I watched showed clearly that Cresswell launched himself into an aerial challenge on Doherty and led with his forearm to Doc’s face. The commentator (Terry Gibson, ex Man U and Coventry) said immediately that it was a clear straight red card but that the ref had missed it.
Totally agree with the lead article on the new signings. All brilliant, with my favourite Moutinho. That guy just oozes class.
Must’ve been brilliant to be there. Just wished more away fans were allowed to travel. Why not give us 4-5 thousand tickets?
Great to get that first win. A very satisfying start for Wolves.
Long may this continue. The MOD pundits seem to think Wolves are in the league to stay. Beautiful feeling when Traore’s goal appeared on my twitter feed as I waited to go into the cinema to see Spike Lee’s Black Klansman.
The lift & the joy you feel when your team wins tells me how important your team are to you.
Yes it’s only a game, there’s more to the world than football etc. But there’s just something magic about getting a hard fought win. A spring in the step, a golden glow. The world seems a slightly better place.
Quality Wolves.
Bugger
Just write a post and phone died
Where was I?
I was saying that the next weekend off is not a bad thing
Nuno is making a difference to this new squad.. so an extra week is good
defensively we are getting better
Keeper is a keeper
Midfield bliss
Now we need more time on set pieces and through balls that get slotted into the the net ..don’t care by whom
A la Traore
Feel Jimenez is going to be good and way better than Afobe
We should take 4 games at a time …5 points from the first .. next four let’s have 7
Meantime 5.30 am start for Burnley .. another game for no mercy
Sam Lord no mercy
Be afraid Burnley, Manure. Southampton and Palace
Be very afraid
We are WOLVES
Great overall performance from the boys. Our first, of many, wins 🙂
Onward’s & Upwards
That post match glow is still going strong on Monday morning. We have most definitely arrived in the Premier League.
The international break comes at a good time for Nuno as it allows the team to pause, take stock and set the team up to go again. Not so good for us as we have to find other ways to amuse ourselves. Roll on Burnley!
PS, Thomas: I know others have already mentioned that we are having to enter user name and email addresses each time we comment, e.g. on IPad (no biggie) but I did see that on my Android these details come up automatically.
There has been some discussion about Adama Traore and whether he should be in our starting eleven.
I feel Nuno’s plan is all about teamwork, every player fitting seamlessly into an overall team shape and ethic. Diogo, Helder and Ivan have all been within the group for a period now and are fully conversant with all the nuances that make our team tick.
Adama is a newbie with immense potential. His individual skills are almost unmatched in the sport and, when properly utilised by both player and manager, he will, I have no doubt, be a fantastic asset for our football club. Balanced against this is his individuality and the fact that, as yet, he tends not to be up to speed with the rapid passing and movement which makes our team such a scary prospect to play against.
This will come, I’m sure, as Nuno and the team work on him, but I don’t think it’s there yet and I foresee him being supersub for a while yet.
We’ll know when the time is right. He’ll be in that starting eleven.
Stoker you’re right. Continuity is the mark of a successful team whether the coach and his staff, or on the pitch.
We had that last season, few injuries/suspensions and consistent selection all of which I am sure contributed to our success.
So if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Traore is huge coming of the bench and, eventually, events will require his selection.
How lucky we are to have genuine debate as to who starts.
Yet another great performance. Like the other games , this game could have ended differently as the Hammers had some really good opportunities and only some great defensive play saved us on a couple of occasions. Don’t get me wrong; we deserved that win, but winning in this league is down to very fine lines at times.
Nuno’s ‘up and at ’em’ philosophy is spot on to my mind; we may lose a few games in the cut and thrust but we shall win games and gain points on other occasions where a more conservative approach would gain nothing in my view.
And it is fun!
The great thing with the Wolves is that a win just gets everyone buzzing. Went up to see my old man yesterday. He has suffered 3 heart attacks and a stroke. He is 89 and still bangs on about Honved and Billy Wright. He pretends he doesn’t know much about football these days. I asked him if he had seen the goal at West Ham yet.Oh yes he said. He watched it on MOTD Saturday night AND again Sunday morning. Life in the old dog yet!
Provide wrong with my prediction
Brilliant win I had to sit in West ham end with 3 hammers mates
Still got Ivan and dendonker to come in yet
Let’s build on this first league win
Question. Why do opposition supporters always say we played rubbish and that’s why we lost. Was Saturday’s result due to us playing very well and stopping West Ham playing or was it because they were really crap as was indicated by the pundits on MOD. If you look back at the Man City game, we made it difficult for them to break us down, our pressing game frustrating one of the best teams in Europe, City’s excuse was they are still not 100%. We were unlucky against Leicester with an own goal and a deflected shot whilst we hit the woodwork three times. What I am trying to say is are we the real deal, are we underestimating how good we really are or is it because we have been fortunate meeting teams in transition or in trouble. Only time and results will go some way to answering my question but I think and hope I know the answer already.
Sort of related, Looneytune…
just listening back to 5live’s Monday Night Club…major inquest on West Ham. All about them being in crisis, little mention of them coming up against an excellent Wolves team. Ince hammering their central midfield but not seeming to recognise that they were up against real class in Neves and Moutinho.
I went to the Olympic stadium last season and sat with the Leicester fans to watch the two sides draw. I was surprised by the lack of quality in midfield for both sides and even then was confident about how we would match up and we’ve obviously upgraded since by swapping out Saiss for Moutinho.
Obviously, the stats don’t usually lie, and they apparently say that West Ham aren’t covering as much ground as other teams. But West Ham won’t be the last team that Wolves make look ordinary or poor given the quality, plan and work ethic we have.
We are the real deal. We are organised, hard working and talented – a lethal combination.
Regarding Raul’s miss on Saturday, look back at the highlights and you’ll see how hard he sprinted to get into the position from which he should have scored – having arrived at such speed he had no time to adjust his body position or feet.
Kudos to Nuno as well for bringing on Vinagre and playing him effectively as a winger to stretch WHU’s tiring defence (just as he did v Everton). ‘Zoltan’ needs to work on his step-over tho’…
Bit late to the game here, so to speak. Been a long holiday weekend this side of the pond, and certainly enjoyed a few drinks celebrating our first win this season in the EPL; surely the first of many.
My running season has restarted, which sadly means long runs on Saturday mornings during the games, so I can’t follow live, but the score’s the first thing I check as soon as I get back. Brilliant result! Our season has started!
What excites me more than the result is the big picture though. If we thought we had a special team last year with Neves, Jota, Costa, Cav, etc., I am still pinching myself that players of the highest international calibre of Moutinho and Patricio are now playing for our club. Can you believe it? For those having a dig at Nuno in some of the above threads, please, show some respect! These are players of legendary status. The highest calibre who could be playing for any of the top European teams. But they play for our beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers because of, and for no other reason whatsoever than, Nuno Espirito Santo. We have a Champions League calibre manager, attracting top, European Cup winners to play for us. How can you not find cool in that! Beyond cool. The revival of our club to once again rub shoulders with the elite. Living the dream.
When Nuno says there is still work and improvement to be done, he’s not being negative or trying to take the glory. He’s right, and he’s just being focused and professional because he knows the challenge ahead. Finishing, for example, as many have remarked, remains one area that needs improvement. I’m not knocking Jimenez for his miss. Stuff happens. It’s a general comment that if our finishing improved, we would have even more points and be even more deadly. And Nuno will get us there.
One way to think about the West Ham game, is that if it wasn’t for Traore, we wouldn’t have won that game. If the pass was to Costa or someone else from the team, instead of Traore, would they have finished it and would we have won? Or would we all be talking of another unlucky miss? We need all our forwards to finish with the same deadly clinicality as Traore finished his chance. In the EPL, defences are going to be much tighter than the championship. Players need to adapt to that, and given half an inch of space, they need to take it and score. And Nuno knows this and will get them there.
So personally, I’m not just happy ‘cos we won a game. That goes without saying. I’m just thrilled with the caliber and ambition of our owners, manager and players, and can’t wait to see what lies ahead as we continue to improve under Nuno.
Congratulations Wolves!
Calling all ‘PLASTIC’ fans.
Come on chaps, let’s be ‘avinyou.
In my opinion, a regular blogger needs three things:-
Two fingers to type with (and occasionally lift at people with opposing views), and a thick skin.
It’s all been said before but everyone is entitled to their opinions and should be allowed to express them.
They should also be prepared for other people to voice an opinion that they might disagree with or, in the case of most of Clive’s missives, find slightly offensive (telling everyone I’m 85 you bugger when you know I’m barely into my thirties).
Most digs at people on the blog are made with tongue firmly in cheek (unless your name’s Amanda Cape) and should be treated as a bit of banter.
Life’s too short to hold silly grudges.
We’re all batting for the same team here.
Let’s all stick together and stick it to the rest.
Wonderful comments DOOGooder… and ones I’m standing right behind you on .. (Coz you’re taller than me.)
It did remind me a bit of Eddie Grant …. I’m gonna rock down to Electric Avinyou.
Life’s too short for moping.. as you and I well know.. so let’s all of put aside our beliefs and high standing morals, not to discard them, but to stand side by side with bloggers that understand what we’re about and to embrace the revolution that’s happening at WV1.
Christ above we’ve all journeyed through the shit years with Moxey and Morgan …let’s enjoy what’s in front of us…..
And as for so called plastic fans … they’re bigger and more fanatical supporters than me.
I spoke to Paul F recently and he’s a fantastic Wolves fan … might not see all the home games but boy … Gold and Black coursing thro’ those arteries…
Well done to you too Mark and Sue … Wiltshire isn’t the next county to the West Mids but boy do you love the Wolves … see you soon …and obtw it’s your turn for the coffees..
Xx
Well said Lord Twix without us meeting Mark and Sue we would never have known about the blog and the brilliant wonderful loyal Wolves fans on it.
Good to see you and Mrs Twix the other week against City.
Cheers Twix!
I think I owe you three or four coffees – but who’s counting?
See you soon.
Driving up to Chesterfield later where we have booked a hotel, have lunch then on to Scunthorpe to watch the kids in the Checkatrade trophy.
Back down to the hotel for the night , then off across to Manchester Airport in the morning for our flight to Malta.
Thank God for the international break, but still busy, busy, busy!
Thoughts on Doherty? I was impressed with him this season, he could have at least one goal and 2 assist so far.
I missed one home match last season – Preston North End when we won 3-2. The reason for this was a wedding and after surreptitiously checking my mobile yelled out “YES” after we had scored the third. Trouble was this was midway through the pre-dinner speeches (a break from tradition) and this outburst caused my wife a good deal of embarrassment.
Fast forward to last Saturday – my wife and I were kindly invited to Dave’s (Bedford Wolf) youngest son wedding. The service was at 1pm then we drove off to have coffee and refreshment before returning to the church hall where they had prepared for the post wedding meal and evening celebrations.
My mobile was confiscated from 3-5pm. “This is a wedding and not a time to keep checking bloody football scores” emanated from she who must be obeyed. However Dave did not have this problem and periodically kept me updated.
About 4.30 we arrived back at the hall ahead of the bride and groom so we sat in the car. At approximately 4.35 wife scurried off to powder her nose and natter to some other guests so I immediately switched on 5 Live (WM does not carry into deepest Bedfordshire). The featured game was boring Chelsea v boring Bournemouth with updates from other grounds. It went something like this…..
“Still 1-1 at Goodison, Palace still behind to Southampton and West Ham and Wolves remains goalless so back to Stamford Bridge”.
My old ticker was hammering away 20 to the dozen……you all know what its like.
“Still goalless at West Ham”.
Blah blah bloody blah.
Maybe it was 4.45 or 4.50……… then the words I had been dreading/eagerly awaiting in equal measure.
“THERE HAS BEEN A LATE GOAL AT WEST HAM – ITS ACROSS TO THE LONDON STADIUM” or words to that effect
My head sank into the steering wheel, all I could hear was a huge celebratory noise blasting from the car speakers – for a split second I was sure West Ham had netted – and for what seemed like eternity I died inside until the commentator at the London stadium yelled “AND WOLVES HAVE SCORED. TRAORE SURELY HAS WON IT”. The noise was the Wolves contingent having a mental.
It was an unbelievable and quite magical moment – I leapt out of the car and yelled across at Dave (who had just arrived) “YES GET IN -ONE NIL – WE HAVE JUST SCORED TRAORE – OH MY GOD”. I have no idea what the other guests thought of a 65 year old lunatic dancing around a church car park at 4.50 on a glorious summers afternoon.
Unfortunately my wife had also appeared, which was a little unfortunate, and proceeded to glare daggers and it was all picture and no sound for a while.
Not that I really cared bloggers – we all go through these emotions with Wolves whether we are 5, 25, 65 or 105 – and we always will.
It was a lovely evening but due to the fact my wife’s lower back was playing up we did not go through our Northern Soul dance routine but Dave and I swapped dozens of knowing glances “WE BLOODY WELL WON”. Priceless.
Good to see Bedders and Newark back.
See you all at Burnley and then onto Old Trafford where I am sitting with in the Upper Tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson stand surrounded by home fans.
Have a good break until a week next Sunday.
Football – aint it great!
BOG
Brilliant post (as always) mr Bedford old gold, yep we are all the same, regardless of age apparently!
You may have to resist throwing a few northern soul shapes around in the sir Alex Ferguson in a couple of weeks though when we score our last minute winner?
Utw
Cheers Marney
You are spot on – I have been asked/warned not to make it bloody obvious I follow Wolves at Old Trafford as the Man U fan whose ST I am borrowing may lose it if it has knowingly been loaned out to an away fan for the day…
No last minute heroics at the “Theatre of Dreams” Wolves will be out of sight come 4.45. Guaranteed!
Well maybe……..
What we all gonna do this Saturday? Bloody internationals.
BOG
We love you yeah, yeah, yeah
It’s gonna happen soon.
I nearly choked on my Cisk when I saw these pictures, the look on his face had us in stitches.
Get back to your painting!

Man of the Match performance from @ConnorRonan10 tonight on his @WFCOfficial debut. Plenty more ? to come for him this season. Big smile on his face, happy to be playing regular football again. Could be a huge signing for Dean Keates! #sadders #wwfc
I’m curious. How is Brexit going to affect foreign players being able to play for Wolves?
Brexit is like the shit winning the Prem.
Never going to happen.
If all of the European players have to leave, then Cardiff will be in the top 4, if they are still around then.
Cardiff will only be top in Wales.
Dear Wolves Bloggers,
Tomorrow morning, bright and early (well early anyway), the PMDG’er and myself will be setting off on our annual trip to Portmeirion, on the edge of Snowdonia in the depths of North Wales, to see lots of people playing musical instruments quite loudly and imbibe rather too much… well, everything really.
I would be pleased if nobody would post anything of significance until next Tuesday as we will have no WiFi and the mobile reception can be pretty poor.
Thanking you all in advance,
TheDOOGooder.
PS. Bye bye and speak to you all soon.
Have a great time, but be careful, you don’t want to become Prisoners. The youngesters won’t have a clue what I’m talking about.
