When you dispatch a local rival with an inferiority complex bigger than their entire ground with such ease, you know you’re having a good season.

When you then send a text and a ‘3-0’ scoreline is predicted after you’ve typed the word ‘Wolves’, then you know it’s a positively brilliant one.
As Danny Batth jigged along to his signature song and Jack Price kissed his badge at full time, the realisation dawned that only injury, suspension or something bloody stupid can stop us returning to the Championship.
A record equaling eighth successive win and sixth straight clean sheet made for an ultimately stress-free experience, like so many pre-season afternoons at the Banks’ when we indulge Walsall in a friendly.

‘We’ll never play you again’ sang the 3,400 Wolves fans (amongst other terrace chants), most of them with the purpose of ‘pecking order’ in mind.
Walsall – or ‘West Brom Fans’ Second XI’ judging by the mysteriously high attendance – know their place and will point to the amazing job that their Ginger Mourinho continues to do.
Judging by large sections of the game, Dean Smith deserves such plaudits, as there was little to separate the sides on a bobbly pitch amid a spiky atmosphere.
Indeed, this eventual 3-0 triumph was quite unlike our others of late, as we showed our top-of-the-league credentials in brief snapshots of decisiveness rather than sustained periods of dominance.
Take the opening goal, during a scrappy first half:
Jacobs – Henry – Dicko – GOAL!
Then see the killer second goal just minutes into the second period:
McDonald – Golbourne – Henry – Dicko – GOAL!
Those two strikes, in what must have been about 20 cumulative seconds, effectively won us the game.
And as if to underline the point, Sako smashed a free-kick into the top corner to completely kill off the contest, just when the ‘2-0 is a dangerous scoreline’ adage was creeping into our minds.
You could see what Dean Smith was thinking on the touchline, who will continue to gain plaudits for his humble demeanour, virtuous football ethic and general common sense outlook, no doubt.
Kenny Jackett on the otherhand – who has created fresh air amid poison, ingenuity for deadwood, wage cuts over profligacy and harmony over a near war – will probably be told all this was part of the script.

Kenny has done a marvellous job. He has created what we did not have for a long time now…. a TEAM worth wearing the old gold. Come on ye Wolves….
A great result and a lovely piece of film Ben.
Oh! I feel like the man I was when I first watched the men in old gold.
I wonder where he is.
Hi ho there’s a Silver Lining’. And away we go.
Solid, safe, super, whole team are putting a full shift in every week, we’ve been asking for this for eons.
Well done Wolves
I was listening to the radio a few days ago where the Chairman at Hull City was banging on again about changing the name to Hull Tigers… (A bit daft and I’m hoping the fans get their way as I hate the way clubs are selling out just for a few extra quid).
Then today after the game it dawned on me that Kenny has been bought in to do just the same… If we keep on this run of putting 3 goals a game away and not conceding, we will be known as “Wolves Three Nil”. Still it sounds better than Hull Tigers!
Added to this I’m curious how Thomas’s blog will evolve as every game is ending the same… The prediction league will become a farce with everyone putting the same prediction in and how “boring” 🙂 it will become everyone talking about how we’ve won 3nil again.
Everyone should grow a beard and show support for the lads…. Come on lasses you’re letting the side down.
Looking forward to next seasons Derby’s!
Great to read you’re prompt post Ben. I’ve been up since 4am (NZ time) watching how the game panned out. Mrs Twixfix was moaning (not groaning!) about being woken but she was ok when I woke her up again at full time to give her the score.
Got to get you’re priorities right eh!!
Great result though and with L.O playing Brentford next week gives us a great chance to inflict more damage ..points wise.
Superb video too mate went down well with my bacon and igg. .. cheers mate
The footballing gods are aligning THE black country derby stars, ready for next season.
We aint lost, nay dropped a point, in eight games, the shit aint won in seven.
Coincidence?
I think not.
The gods want us to wreak our revenge for that last game between us, and cannot wait until we get in the Prem, in a season and a half, they want the games to begin next season!
What can be said that aint already been said about this bunch, who proudly wear the old gold and black, and make US proud as well?
Tears of pride have replaced tears of frustration.
We are going up, and in style as well.
Yes, we may drop a few points on the way, but then again, we may not.
Fingers point to missed chances by our opponents, but so what? That’s their problem, not ours. We take our chances, and lately they are like Penn Road buses, non for a while then three together!
Smiley faces all over the ClivefromHouston estate once again, and when I’m happy, the dogs and the boss are happy!!
And today was the only day this season I was hoping for a Manure win, and they duly obliged without breaking sweat at the sandwell crem!
Happy Days are here again, La di da………
Scooped has given me your address .. looks pretty cool !! I’ll post it tomorrow my friend.
Many thanks, don’t forget to get your postage money back from Baldy!!
I’ve got as much chance of that as Sandwell Town have of avoiding the drop!!
Like others i am already looking forward to being back in the championship (although its not all done and dusted yet). Last season was such a miserable experience starting well then just capitulating at every turn until relegation was inevitable. On top the wages paid for that dire performance has dropped a 30Million pound bill on the door mat. Now i think we can look forward to locking horns again with bigger local rivals and those wank clubs from the north west who get smaller crowds and bigger national media love. I slagged the appointment of Kenny off but what do i know i didnt want Steve Bruce either. All i can say at this juncture is THANK YOU KENNY.
For the sake of a feeling of purity think via my touch screen i have inadvertnly liked myself.
Oh happy day! What a result! What a team! What a gaffer!
Doesn’t sound like we blew them away, pretty even contest all things considered, just our clinical finishing the difference. And how good it is for that to be the case.
A disgruntled saddler tweeted “does it feel good being able to buy the third division”. I responded that it did, especially given how little our signings have cost!
Difficult not to smile, so I won’t bother trying. I wouldn’t be surprised if my shit eating grin is visible from Houston.
Only negative I can think of is: I’m flabbergasted KJ didn’t win manager of the month. On Football Focus Nigel Clough (who did win it) said he didn’t think he’d get it as the performance in their first match in Feb was so poor. The performance in all of our matches have been exemplary, and King Kenny deserves every accolade going as that is entirely his doing.
The Mrs is at work this evening, so time to roll a victory number and enjoy a glass of the good stuff while watching MOTD. I hope the a****n are on first.
UTW
I sat and watched Arsenal v Everton and shit v manure, flicking back and forth between the two games.
The shit were worthy of their name!!
Makes great watching for all us Wufflers fans!!!
Result and a half again…I’ll be happier when we beat Stevenage and Crawley – our games in hand ..then I reckon we are on our way..
Is this squad good enough to get to the top of the championship ? Probably……I understand KJ has a big player he is tracking for next season too..then there is the academy players coming through…it’s all mega positive .
.so.. Win this crap league then watch the World Cup..
Here’s to next season…
Just saw that Middlesbrough had gone 12 hours without scoring before putting 2 past Ipswich today. That was the kind of thing that used to happen when MM was our manager too. Just saying….
Meanwhile up on Teeside it was let two in and no shots on target for the away side. How I used to dread that scenario every Saturday. Not to diss the great achievement that same coach managed for Wolves earlier in the century but that statistic and similar almost destroyed my love of the beautiful game week in week out.
Another good result. For me some of the pics i have seen tonight say it all. There are pics showing the team celebrating the goals, I can count 9 players in frame that friends is genuine team spirit. Everyone looks genuinely happy for each other. KJ has indeed created a team with team spirit and the will to play for each other. Nothing won yet keep it going guys.
Brilliant day: we won and got another 3 points, we set that record straight with Walsall about who’s top dog, baggies lost by the same scoreline, and best of all, the team is now in the best possible form, fitness and confidence ahead of the games marathon we have coming up. Bring it on!
I actually think this Wolves team can still turn it up a notch or two more. Just keep watching them gain confidence and see what they can do.
Go Wolves!
Lest we forget!
I’ve watched all the matches this season since my holidays and our twelth man (Wolves fans) deserve a special mention, your support spurs this team on and make the old gold package complete. Stand up and feel proud, let’s sell out all our away games for the rest of the season, the atmosphere home and away is amazing.
Onwards & Upwards.
Lets not get carried away remember Torquay and the Sherpa Van, lets not get Complacent that what’s really impressed me about Jackett he doesn’t get carried away or let the players get carried away in his words we’ve achieved nothing another thing that impresses me is he doesn’t wines the oppersion up and give credit to them when they’ve played well he’s gracuious enough in his post match interviews unlike a certain former manager. He inspire confidence but is not cocky.
No lets follow his example and not temp fate again remember Dave Jones and the Golden Tit season, no softly softly catch monkey.
Well done KJ, players and away support. I nearly forgot…….AWSOME…….
Great result on a small bobbly pitch which hampered Wolves game, just didn’t seem to be much room out there.
Wolves players showed their appreciation to the mass support at the end of the game and they were genuinely pumped up , brilliant day in a real venomous derby atmosphere.
PS Ikeme looked like he was getting a torrent of abuse from the Walsall support behind is goal in the second half – then they complain on WM about his conduct – tossers!
Were on a roll UTW
The sun is shining and Wolves continue to win – It’s great being a supporter of the best team in the world.
🙂
Another great result, didn’t think it would be another 3 nil job.
Well done to Kenny and the boys.
Can’t say a lot more except Let’s beat the club record of 8 straight wins in our next match.
March is going to be crucial, if we can keep the players fit, and no suspensions is ours to lose.
Orient and Brentford play each other next if I’m not mistaken, so let’s keep it going Wolves.
Great team spirit and togetherness is really apparent when you watch Wolves.
I can’t believe the transformation Kenny had achieved to this great club of ours in such a short space of time.
Am I correct that he didn’t win manager of the month? After winning 8 on the bounce, what’s that all about, anyway I’m glad he didn’t win it, as we all know it’s cursed.
Up the Wolves. ..
I’m glad KJ didn’t get manager of the month it always seems to be accompanied with a down turn in results. The national media seem to be ignoring us, that’s ok too we’ll just carry on doing what we are doing and sooner or later they’ll have to take notice. Again we were 3rd on the Football League show there was a bigger game Swindon v MK Dons. They’ll soon come crawling when we go through the finish line.
It was good though to be able to see what Swindon are like as we’re playing them on Tuesday. I should think we’ll beat them -3-0 ?
I somehow knew it was going to be a good day yesterday, drinking my costa coffee and listening to the Rolling Stones greatest hits driving down the A38 from Nottingham in the sunshine.
Thank you to my team for putting a smile on my face again, greta display, great support, and as I said to you Ben before the match – if Brentford can`t beat us, no-one can. And Clive I may struggle to call you today with a match report, you don`t really need one though, Ben`s blog says it all for me.
Great to be there amongst the Wolves fans yesterday. What a great show of support for the team again. And didn’t all the lads show their class in this league yet again. Walsall made a good game of it in all fairness, but Wolves are at last showing that clinical edge in front of goal which we were missing earlier in the season. KJ deserves all the plaudits coming his way for the change of culture within this team, they all do look as though they are enjoying their football whilst getting these brilliant results.
Am now looking forward to going to the Swindon match on Tuesday. Dare I predict another 0-3 scoreline for our team or is that just being a bit too optimistic? Bring it on! COYW
Thankyou WOLVES and KING KENNY for bringing back PRIDE to our great club once more.
Time will only tell if KJ has built a truly table topping team who’ll go on into the championship
and perform the way we’re playing this exciting and passionate football of the like I haven’t seen for a long time.
I predicted a bit of a thrashing but the first half proved a bit of a hard game but class showed through once again especially in the second half.some great goals scored with sako’s fabulous strike, really pleasing to watch.
So roll on Tuesday at Swindon and hope we keep this ball rolling to a nine straight win…UTW.
Great blog Ben.
What can we say,the boys in old gold are saying it all.
It`s been years since I`ve felt this optimistic about our clubs future.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes.
It has been a great turn around.
My only complaint is I keep predicting 4-0 and they only win 3-0!
Let’s hope we keep winning whatever the score…
Thanks for the write up Ben.
I listened live as usual and it sounded touch and go for much of the first half.
Then, like county and other recent games we seemed to assert our dominance.
Great result, great performance, and what’s more, the lads seem to be enjoying it and relishing Our current dominance of this league.
Barmy Army.
Wolves Ay We.
Thanks for the report.
Another fantastic result.
3 – 0 away – don’t get a lot better.
Good blog, and good to see Ben back on duty!
Really enjoying being a Wolves fan these…as for ‘buying the league’ what absolute nonsense. We’re blatantly a big game for many of the teams and they raise their game to play us, so we still have to be committed to get the results.
Roll on the next game! 🙂
Just going through the team list for tonight’s u21 against Manure.
We have Flatt in goal, Hausse in defence and Tank (is he in the airing cupboard?)
I’m guessing Kenny said he was going to “build” a team with good foundations and Morgan backed him in what he knows best! Flatts and Hauses!
The house that Wolves built.
Was it on Floyd Street?
Bobby Mason for the build. Bill Slater and Mel Eves for the roof. Michael Oakes and Michael Branch for the timber. Eddie Clamp for the joinery. Graham Stack and Colin Brazier for the Heating.
Adam Proudlock for security. Danny Batth for the plumbing. Add Derek Clarke for the paperwork, Don Gardener for landscaping, Jimmy Seal for weatherproofing, Martin Patching for snagging and not forgetting delivery driver Barry Stobart. Kenny has worked a Mark Lazarus in rebuilding.
Must get out more!
Just to be more embarrassing! I forgot to add Willie Carr parked in the driveway.
What about O’Hara, Ward, Johnson and Henry for the septic system?
They are all shit!!!!!
Agreed. Henri Camara could take the pictures.
Actually, Willie Parkes his Carr in the Parkin space……………..
What colour would you paint it? Andy Gray? I’m sure Old Gold would be a Mutch better colour.
And all sponsored by Whathouse!
Construction machinery courtesy of Robert Plant.
I must lay off the vino!
Classy follow up Lynx…
Just reading back to your 1st follow up… Prob just have read “The house that “sir” Jack built”… Morgans moved in and plumped for an extension with a leaky roof!
Touche’ but there are golden Ron Flowers in the garden. Hic!
The sceptic tank is prob on the Waterloo Road side!
Don’t forget, there could be a Pye in the kitchen, a Farmer and a Gardiner tending the Flowers and the Moss in the Woodfield, and a Crowe on the roof, near the Norman Bell!!
We need a life!!
Brill memory or research ! Echo an active life or is it “wife ” ?
