The message coming from Molineux ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline is loud and clear – don’t expect much.
Jez Moxey has issued a statement explaining that Wolves won’t be making any significant moves, although he did hint that a loan signing could still happen.
Logic dictates that this one potential addition to the squad will be a striker, with cover up front in short supply, particularly with SEB limping out for a few months.

Who this mystery forward might be is intriguing.
The immediate assumption is that it would be a young player from one of the top clubs. Macheda from Man Utd maybe? Gaël Kakuta from Chelsea?
I’d be very happy with either of those.
Alternatively, the three M’s could be looking further afield and it certainly wouldn’t be a great surprise to see Mick take a punt on an unknown, unproven foreign player.
He’s certainly done it before, albeit with mixed success.
Whichever avenue they’re exploring, I hope a striker with pace is the deal they’re chasing.
If only one player is (maybe) coming in, you’d assume that means tadalafilhome.com nobody is heading out.
Nenad Milijas appears to be the only name linked with a move away before tomorrow’s deadline, but selling the skillful Serb at this late stage would be a terrible mistake in my eyes.
For all the paper talk, Wolves haven’t (publicly at least) received any offers for Matt Jarvis or Kevin Doyle.
Given the way the club does business, it’s difficult to see a rush-deal being pushed through for one of our best players, even if one of the big clubs does come calling.
All the same, it will be a relief to see the window close with both of the above players still sporting the old gold and the best squad we’ve had in over 30 years still intact.
You see, for all the huff, puff and bluster from fans (including this one) demanding further reinforcements, the reality is that we have an excellent group of players already.
So if tomorrow comes and goes with no new faces forthcoming, perhaps we should give Mick and the boys the benefit of the doubt.
7 points from 9 suggests they deserve it.

Surely we have to have a look at Dann. Although QPR and Blackburn will be offering a lot more in wages than we will.
I wouldn’t mind either of the lads you mentioned… Daniel Sturridge is another young forward who might need to be sent out on loan.
Personally I don’t see us making any more additions to the squad, hope I’m proven wrong though.
Can’t see us going for Dann. We’ve got 4 centre-halves already, so unless we’re planning to let one leave sharpish, it’s a non-starter.
Plus I’m not sure the M’s will be that keen on a player who gave them a public slap in the face two years ago by signing for Blues after having a medical at Wolves. That’s just a hunch though.
And to be fair, 2 clean sheets in 3 matches suggests sufficient improvement at the back, at least for this season.
Not that I wouldn’t love to see Dann sign of course.
Sturridge is a surely a complete non-starter. Came on leaps and bounds last season at Bolton so will be in the Chelsea squad for sure.
Chelsea have got a lot of strikers though – Drogba, Anelka, Torres, Kalou, that new lad Lukaka… Not sure Boas will put Sturridge ahead of at least the first 4 guys. Not that I think we’ll get him anyway but I see him potentially going out on loan.
Our defense has started well but we don’t have adequate cover. If MM is going to continue to play Stearman at right back then we only have Craddock as cover for the Centre Halfs.
But again – I still don’t see us signing anyone up this late.
Danny Sturridge, yes please! My dream signing for tomorrow. Should be starting for Chelsea IMO. Can’t see it though, and wouldn’t want to be third choice behind Doyle and Fletcher. Wouldn’t be beneficial for him or Chelsea.
At £5m Dann is an absolute bargain – but like Thomas I cant see it happening as the fat controller has said its loan signings only.
I really like the idea of Kakuta from Chelsea – he could bring some real pace to the attack and provide a different option to what we already have. (think I said something similar about the Hof providing an extra attacking dimension!)
Kakuta could happen as I signed him for Wolves on Fifa 2011 and he was a big success (he played in the same side as Bellamy, Anelka and golden boot winner SEB though! ha,ha,ha!)
Not to be a doom and gloom merchant, and not wanting to jinx us, I feel our problem is lack of strength in depth in ALL positions.
There will always be a drop in form for everyone over the course of a season, and all players are liable to get injured.
We have not got reliable backups for most positions.
Keeper, OK.
Right back, OK.
Then where?
We don’t have a good left back to start with, so back up is even worse.
Center backs, only Craddock is available.
Midfield, Milijas and Hammill will not strike fear in anyone, and until Adelene gets fit we have no bite in reserve.
Up front, we have no cover for anyone. If Jarvis, Hunt, Fletcher or Doyler get injured who is there to replace them? ( SEB out for a month)
Are our reserves any good?
There was a report of the Northampton game a few days ago which stated we were not that good, so will any of those guys make the grade, or even be given the chance?
I hope they do and they are, otherwise we could be in for a long winter if we get the aforementioned loss of form or injuries.
Of course, the fat controller will see warm bodies on the training pitch, and that will do for him.
He’s looking forward to the next 40 million pound parachute payment so he can get his sticky hands on some of it.
He don’t give a shit about success on the pitch….why have I started on about him?
Stourbridge, you mentioned him and off I go!!!!!!!
Loved watching Stoke’s goal from the weekend!
Still got a smile on my face at the bottom of the league table!!
FOWB
Not a doom and gloom merchant, well you got me fooled!
Seems most fellow bloggers agree with me!!
That’s a first!!!
‘We always beat West Brom!’ Quality. Shame we can’t sing that song..
i agree we are ok and wil be fine providing no injurys and suspensions, which wont happen i think we need cover if nothing else
We are two players short in my opinion. A measure of our progression this season is reflected on the fact I think our no1 priority is a striker.
Something different, a bit more direct.
I like the fact we have been linked with Emnes (and Maynard) even though we probably won’t get either. It may just reflect Mick’s thinking.
Remember when George Ndah rocked up? It felt like a bit of a leftfield signing, but his impact was the biggest breath of fresh I can remember. So bloody quick and direct.
Now I know those players don’t grow on trees, but a player like that (and fully fit!) would be wonderful.
Or, a big bastard.
Second off, we still need a left back. No way should this be seen as a betrayal to Ward and Elokobi either. It should be seen as the opposite – a player with a honed education in this position, who can supply some real competition, if not a pillar of support on the training ground when the inevitable testing times come. It won’t happen though.
Again, testament to our progression as I am not as twitchy about things if it doesn’t happen!
Totally agree – Ward has been great so far this season, but it’s a long hard season with much tougher right wingers to come.
Oh, and if we sign a big b@stard can it be one that can win (and direct) a header for once!
Well of course we had a big b@stard who was a good chef apparently, and he didn`t seem to fit in, never got a chance, probably only bought for Halfords long throws.
If we get only one signing – let him have genuine pace, so he can provide us with backup and something different. In the next two games we could have Lennon, and maybe Wright – Phillips running down our right hand side, and Ward never got within a yard of Ngodbia, who was shocking on Sunday, and those two are probably more direct and quicker.
Ward can play up frontish if we get short of strikers, so why not bring in a left back or defensive midfield cover. There`s no smoke without fire, so lets see who we get. Interesting times.
I can’t understand why this is a debate.
WE NEED A LEFT BACK end of!
Okay, who would you sign?
That’s an irrelevant question Louie, and one that maybe should be answered by those in charge at our club. I’ve actually been impressed with Stephen Ward so far this season (I think I need a sit down after that, I feel faint!) although not so much with his defending but with his attacking displays. Even the most loyal Stephen Ward fan will admit that he isnt really a left back and big George, although a thoroughly nice chap, is a championship defender at best. Therefore we need to sign someone, I don’t really give a flying fig who that person is as long as he is a) a schooled left back; and b) is better than what we have. If we don’t then expect most teams to target our weak left side, and that my friend will lead to more and more rants from the one and only Clive!
It’s not really. People bang on about left back this left back that but there really aren’t many left backs out there. Not qualiy left backs anyway, that would significantly improve our team.
Ward has been excellent so far, and is looking like a Premier League left back. I reckon people can’t handle the fact that he is proving people wrong.
You’re a smart lad Louie and I know you play a bit yourself so if you really think Ward is a Premier league left back then I guess you must be right. I mean who am I to question the fact that Ward is the new Roberto Carlos. Trouble is he is short on pace, which means he stands off players to the point that they are unchallenged and have all the time in the world to put in inch perfect crosses, he is positionally naive and he’s crap. On the plus side he is a reasonable tackler and has no problem using his body to block the ball.
The left back position is our weakest position and has been for a number of years .We concede most goals from balls in from the left side which suggests that the left back position is our weakest position and has been for a number of years and repeat……
Left back has always been a difficult position to fill Louie, there is a shortage of decent left backs although every other club seems to have one, yet our first choice left back for the past 3 years has been a striker – weird eh!
There is a difference from saying someone is decent Premier League left back to comparing him to Roberto Carlos, why bother even saying that? You are trying to make me look silly. I’m not sure why, maybe you are just trying to be funny (you aren’t) or trying to look cool on the internet.
Ward is improving (he has backed off considerably less recently), he has started the season well and is looking like a good left back whether you like it or not.
And to say every other club has one is not true. QPR, Norwich, Swansea, Stoke, Bolton all have left backs that are either at the same level or not as good as Ward has been this season.
One thing you are also underrating is the impact of our new captain, Roger Johnson. This will have massively benefited Ward, and helped him with the defensive side of his game and given him some confidence.
I neither have the time nor inclination to make you look silly or to be funny, and the last time I looked cool was when Kenny Hibbit was playing and I was sporting a brand new pair of flares and a particularly nice cheescloth shirt.
I respect your opinion Louie and the ferocious and eloquent way you defend it. My opinion is Ward is a crap left back, I have evidence to support that fact and plenty of it. But at the end of the day it is my opinion and I’m sticking to it. The same as you will stick to yours.
I hope and pray that we are aiming higher than QPR, Norwich, Swansea, Stoke, Bolton because if we’re not then that would be a real shame!
I wonder how I could underate the impact of our new captain when we weren’t discussing him and how and why you would suggest that I was.
I really don’t have an issue with you Louie, I doubt you could say the same about me but I really don’t care.
I don’t have an issue with you at all Jed. The only thing I have an issue with is how no matter what Ward does people will still call him crap, slow, etc.
You have evidence to support that, well maybe you did for last season or the season before or the season before but he has had a storming start to the season and looks the part.
Time will tell Louie and if I have to eat humble pie I will gladly do so. Until then………..
…… FOMM? 😉
Now, now ladies, handbags at 20 paces please!!!
Louie, Jed is not me in disguise, though he could be.
For once I agree with MM, we have only played 3 games, lets not get carried away.
Blackburn and Fulham have yet to win, and Villa are still trying to cope with life after Young and Downing, with their manager getting his selection wrong on Sat, he should have played Albrighton from the start. He crucified Ward last year at the Mol.
Take off your anti Clive/pro Ward blinkers, Louie.
Yes, Ward has shown an improvement this season, he actually scored a goal, but he has only improved up front.
He is picked to play at left back, and he can’t.
That is the stark reality.
This blog contains only a fraction of the Wolves fans around the globe, yet we are 99% all of the same opinion, we need a new left back.
If we can all see it, why can’t our beloved manager, he’s supposed to be the expert.
And don’t we need to aiming higher than those teams you mentioned, Louie?
Jed, I remember your flares. Purple, wern’t they??!!
FOWB
Dann won’t be coming, he hasn’t the sort of personality Wolves are looking for.
I’d be more comfortable with more talent to protect the left side, we’re a little thin on the ground there I agree.
Whilst I share the sentiment that our squad is looking good so far so perhaps we don’t need more new blood, let’s not forget that only three games have passed, and that we claimed 4 points from the first three games last season, and then what happened!
although the squad has improved, Im of the belief that a left back, centre half and defensive midfielder are in order.
What we have is fine for a starting 11 but after that its very thin, i would have ward as a striker and although he has arguably been our best player this season still think we are desperate for a left back(is george going african cup of nations) the centre half as i dont fancy George stearman or craddock if Johnson or Berra get injured and there are no options for henry at the moment. With all the players who have left, gone on loan and our total outlay from players brought and sold being 6 mill i think we have a bit left in the bank, God i hope so, Regardless we will be better than last season and that will do for me
As Mick says “don’t get carried away it’s only 3 games”. Really great so far and I am really fired up with the current set up but is it me or are Blackburn shocking, Fulham away from home very weak and the worst Villa home performance I’ve seen for years.
We’ve done well so far and the first 11 (out of maybe 14 real choices) will do better than last season if and this is the big if they all stay fit and unijured. It would be unsurprising if we had less than 3-4 players out by Christmas let’s hope they’re not Fletcher, Doyle, Jarvis and Johnson, because that’s been our kind of luck the last two seasons!
A happy but nervous fan!!
Lets not get carried away with the start we’ve had,its great to have 7 points on the board, lets face it we were second best to villa for alot of the match.
so to think we don’t need to strenghten is folly.
Roger Johnson has been a great signing for us,but its only one player better off from last season so to think we are going to be alright for the rest of the
campaign to me is stupidity..I think we need to get three players in for cover.
striker/leftback/midfielder all with pace, wishful thinking i know but if we want
to stay in touch thats what we need, me thinks.
on another note micks been slagging off the away fans again by calling them
numpties for the jeering at the villa match, he should have a word with himself, they paid the forty quid so they are entitled to disagree…
or a lot of the match.
A lot of teams will be second best at Villa Park this season and a lot of them will lose. I agree we need to strengthen, but claiming that point and not buckling on Saturday show we have a lot of strength already.
The point i’m trying to make is that we need to strengthen the squad.Last season we beat villa with the villa having a better side than one we drew with last weekend. If you look at the stats we were lucky.Don’t get me wrong
i think we are more resilient with johnson in the side but we need to get a few players in,meaning strength in depth, Rich..
The Villa said we drew with was much better than the one we beat (in y opinion. We are also a better side.
We don’t need anywhere near as much strengthening as eole are making out. A midfielder on loan (Lansbury has been rumoured) will do me.
In your opinion you say villa are a better side from last season,If you ask a
villa fan i bet he would’nt agree, with the loss of Ashley young,Alun johnson.
i don’t think so.
Like i said in my opinion with only one player in JOHNSON,How can you say we’er a much better side with one player.I don’t think so..
alun johnson?
You also need to remember they brought a banner telling houllier to get out, and that the atmosphere was awful. they played better on sunday than when we beat them, thats for sure.
we have added johnson, and a fitter Jamie O’Hara. Not only is Johnson a great defender, but an organiser and great influence. We’ve seen that with the appointment of hi as captain, the vast improvement in berra and Ward, two clean sheets, seven points out of nine. why can’t we be a much better side.
I’m amazed that we sit 5th in the table, looking a much stronger side defensively and collectively as a team yet we are finding ways to moan? Cheer up guys!
I know what you are saying,i really hope we keep on playing well,
but i’m looking at the bigger picture not three games in but thirty.
and yes its great to be 5th in the league but i still think we need to strengthen ( period )..
We have a decent enough squad, we are light on midfielders until Gued and Edwards get back but after that I think we will be fine.
If Johnson gets injured we have got the same despair coming with our defense as last season.
We are weak at left back though i hope ward continues to prove me wrong.
Will ward or elokobi stand up against quality oppossition or have rings run around them?
We need a defensive midfielder who is better than henry, giving henry a rason to fight for his defensive midfiield position. If henry has a few bad games, who will we replace him with?
These are my two main worries. I just hope i am proved wrong at left back and henry stays injury free and on form.
Fingers crossed, 7 from 9. Up the Wolves.
I think we’ll have trouble signing a quality forward on loan because we can’t guarantee league football with Doyle and Fletcher fit and in good form. I would be surprised to see Macheda, Kakuta or Sturridge coming in because they would want regular action.
I agree with most of the above, we’re thin on the ground in a few positions if someone important gets injured so fingers crossed until the window opens again.
We could always resign Leon Clarke. Looks like he’ll be looking for another home. I knew he would make the news at some point, well done Leon. Finally made the bigtime.
To be honest with Jed, Louie et al, the key person in our squad so far this season has to Ward.
In fact if Ward was injured we would be in a worse position than if Johnson was.
He is proficient in several positions so gives MM options when it comes to substitutions.
He is a player who has come on tremendously since the last Ireland games and I wonder whether Trappatoni’s influence has affected his play.
I criticised him like everyone else but right now, credit where credit is due, without Ward we would not have 7 points.
As for a signing? – Unlikely and I hope Milijas stays!
So…. there’s some speculation that Wolves have made an inquiry about Celtic’s Gary Hooper. Can’t see us making such a big signing so close to the transfer deadline, it isn’t Wolves style, but it would certainly be an interesting signing if it did happen.
First rumour of the day, Celtic’s Gary Hooper. Scored goals for fun in Scotland but then so could I..
Anyone seen the Leon Clarke – Di Canio bust up from last night, brilliant scenes. Guess Hoddle was right about him.
Saw it Rich, very funny! Can’t see us going for Hooper. Not unless one of Doyle or Fletcher move on. I’ve interviewed Hooper when he was at Scunthorpe in 2009. He strikes me as a lad that wouldn’t take too kindly to sitting on the bench! (nor should he in fairness to him – always impressed me greatly)
Very singleminded young chap.
Glen Hoddle wasn’t right about much – but I’ll give him that one Rich. Still doesn’t cancel out the “missing piece of the jigsaw”, or dumping us a few days before the start of the season, or swanning around like he was doing us a massive favour the whole time he was at Wolves.
Still he hasn’t had a managerial job since Wolves – so I’d like to think that we ended his career.
Shame Di Canio didn’t plant one on Clarke (I think he should consider himself particularly lucky given the Italians nazi links!). I’ll never forgive him for his “ssshhh” to the South bank – cheeky 50p-headed f*cker!
He should have given the shhh to the Billy Quiet. I’d have laughed at that and thought of him as a bit of a funny guy.
I wouldn’t have minded if he bagged a last second goal v the Baggies or something of that magnitude, but it was some limp finish against Plymouth in the FA Cup, with about 7,000 fans inside the ground.
Worst bit of all was he’d then start banging them in down the Bucks Head and I’d think he would come back in like a crazed beast, only to see him wank it off for the umpteenth time.
I’d fancy Di Canio in a bare knuckle fight, even if he lacks in reach, height and weight.
Being on horse back (wearing a hood) would surely reduce the height and reach differential!
Forgive an old fart, but what the fuck are you two on about?
You sound like those wankers on the Electronic Telegraph twittering and googlerizing all over the place about sweet fuck all and the lack of transfer news, just wasting time and shit like that!!!!!
Haven’t you got work to do, Benjamino?
Fair point, well made CFH!
Don’t you ever, ever say the words ‘fair’ and ‘poin’t to a Clive post SW. You can say ‘well made’ though. Will give him that.
The only “fair points” I am interested in are tits on a blonde, the bigger the better!!!!
How is your mom?
That boy used to drink in my pub all the time. His usual was double vodka with a wkd. Poncin round like he owned the gaff, no time to talk to the wanderer behind the bar though – too busy chasin skirt.
Ah well, at least he has his intelligence to fall back on…
Maybe he’ll get reincarted as a football manager …
Just thought I saw a Spurs defender at the Molineux. Turns out it was Hutton dressed as Lahm.
Once again, another transfer window bites the dust, and no new left back for us.
Oh shit.
However, I firmly believe we have done the best bit of business in the whole of the football world this summer in signing Roger Johnson.
All those flash harrys who have gone to the likes of chelsea and city are only after the money, flatter to deceive, and when the going gets tough, they run away, see Nasri and Clichy for starters, and that wanker Adeybayour who no one wants coz he is shit.
Johnson is quality, pure and simple, and he has already made his mark with the improvement of our back four, especially Berra.
Is anyone getting excited by the prospect of England playing this week, coz I aint!!!
FOWB
Well, guess MM gets the benefit of the doubt – I’d be happy to give him that! 🙂
Though I have a feeling that with the first undeserved draw/loss that we suffer there’ll be people saying that MM should have done more…
Maybe its not MM who says yah or nah but the fat controller.
still can’t believe we have’nt brought somebody in,time will tell us all.
