Still endless takeover talk, still no press conference imminent. It’s as frustrating as it’s distracting isn’t it?
Being as I was relatively quick on the uptake when the Express & Star initially rubbished claims of Robin Li buying the club from Steve Morgan back on June 30, I have revisited my close contact who confirmed that it was all happening in the first place. He says to expect an announcement tomorrow. (Thursday July 14)
I must state at this juncture that this must be taken with a pinch of salt, being as my original post stated that this deal would be concluded during the week commencing July 4, many days ago now. There may also be a conflict with the recent Telegraph article which stated that Jez Moxey would stay.
So, my update from my contact, who gains his information from someone within the club, is that an announcement will be made tomorrow (Thursday July 14).
The dialogue I had was as follows:
Text on Monday July 11: “The deal is worth £40 million. Robin Li’s men will fill the board, five players will be announced at the same time and the budget is enough to gain promotion at the first attempt.”
I replied with: ‘When do you reckon this will be announced?’
His response: ‘This was the news I was given two minutes ago.’
Later that evening, he followed this up with: ‘They are saying that the Football League has ratified the deal and an announcement is expected soon.’
On Tuesday July 12, he followed this up with: ‘My mate has been in touch. It is Thursday for the announcement. Feel free to use it.’
I replied with: ‘Brilliant!!!! Thank you.’
‘You’re welcome.’
‘We may as well post now Ben. There’s a lot of shite being put about and it is doing the bloggers’ heads in. Everyone else is second guessing. If it turns out to be wrong, at least ours is from my best source and our intentions are good.’
I replied: ‘So it is definitely a done deal and it goes through on Thursday? I will write something first thing if you’re definitely confident.’
He replied: ‘He’s never let me down and I asked him if he minded you writing it up. He said yes, so that tells me it’s kosher. He’s given the ok this time.’
So there you have it folks. As I say, please take this all with a pinch of salt, but my source is confident for an announcement tomorrow.

Having an idea who the source is, this is probably kosher, but anything can happen. I missed the “Jez to stay” article/reference, I hope that bit isn’t true at least.
Whether huge investment brings instant success (read “if it comes to pass for any of my comments), who knows, but let’s enjoy the ride and give the new chairman, board and manger/coach a chance before we start weeping and gnashing teeth if things get off to a slowish start.
It’s going to be fun with so many new players and songs. Optimistic until the end and glad that I went for the early bird renewal. That said, nothing has arrived in the post yet – are price hikes legal?

It means we’ll have the second richest owner(s) in the country. It doesn’t mean we’ll be the club with the second highest disposable income, i.e. we won’t necessarily be the 2nd highest spenders, even if (when!) we get up into the PL.

Not sure where all this “second richest club in the country” idea comes from. If Li is also buying AC Milan it is clear a lot of his football resources will be spent in Italy. On top of that people seem to overlook Villa have just been taken over by a Chinese investment group with strong links to the Govt. RECON Group own many, many, many companies in a variety of industries. (Two of these subsidiaries alone are valued at a combined 4 billion dollars Heaven knows the values of the rest.)

Spoke to a VERY reliable source and they said at least 2/3 weeks as the football authorities are dragging their feet.
In Ben we trust – I mean surely having got £2 a month out of us all we wouldn’t be fed a bum steer now? lol
I shall be eagerly waiting in the morning – announcement, new players, new manager, new owner (ideally a new CEO too!) but above all a new dawn. Once more we can have ambition, have hopes, have dreams and look forward to the new season with anticipation rather than dread, or even worse, apathy. After all without hope or dreams or ambition what is the point? Might as well be forever locked in the 3rd division of the PL like the Shadow Dwellers where the extent of their ambition is finishing higher than 18th.

Whilst I am extremely excited by the prospect of a billionaire owner, I’m also concious that millions don’t guarantee success. A quality manager is as important as the transfer budget, and I hope the proposed new guy is up to the task. However, Li didn’t get where he is today without having the right people around him and making the right decisions, so I guess we have to trust his judgement when hiring the new coach/manager. It’s certainly going to be a roller coaster!! 🙂

After the ups and downs over the last few seasons this is just the best news I have heard for an age.
Whatever happens to KJ we owe that man a huge thank you. He took over when were on the skids and weeded out the bad that was at the core of the club. The lack of investment in players by Steve Morgan has been the main factor in where we finished last season. I firmly lay the blame at his feet.
Now I am intrigued at who these 5 players are !!

But I’m suspending all that in the glee of what might just be…….and all best wishes to KJ for bringing some sanity and hope back and having to front up so often when he’s as much in the dark as the rest of us.

Jez Moxey brokered the imminent takeover. Jez Moxey will remain as c.e.o. Jez Moxey is an employee and will do as he is told. Someone else will decide who we sign and for how much. However there was another offer which was also accepted but Li’s bid was preferred. Jez Moxey would have left the club if the 2nd bid had been chosen and I understand it is still on the table.
Yes David .. but from what we are lead to believe , robin Li is the more western orientated investor. People are saying that ding lie , although much wealthier , is a bit of a ruthless sketchy character .

Mike – re the crest on the shirt, I agree wholeheartedly with you however a friend and fellow Bedford Wolf (Rhys ‘Lightning’ Price) always bangs on about the crest every single time I see him and a couple of years ago got the opportunity to raise the matter personally with none other than the current CEO. He was told that even if the club wanted to use the crest – which they apparently don’t – they wouldn’t be allowed to because of some copyright issue with the City Council. No idea what that means to be honest but that’s what he was told. Personally I’d also like the colour of our shirts to be more old gold than they seem to be now as we seem to have wandered in the realms of amber or even orange rather than old gold.
Moxey’s Money Shop sponsorship needs to be removed from the new shirt. I don’t think our town/city crest would be relevant or desirable to the prospective owner even if there were no copyright issues. The reason I say this is that an essential part of our attraction to Robin Li is the name Wolves, but not the place name of Wolverhampton. He has urged his employees to think like wolves, for example. We could brand our shirts with Robin Li’s Baidu logo, which would be valuable exposure on Chinese television.
My ex was vehemently against tattoos, so when I left the cold, frigid bitch I went staight to a tattoo parlour and had the wolf head logo tattooed on my left shoulder.
That is reason one not to change.
Readon two is much more important, it is instantly recognizable to the vast majority of football fans, which is not something that can be said about most others.

The club should at least make a statement as regard to not buying any players. They can’t honestly expect to sell season tickets based on the allure of our mediocre depleted squad, and on the face of it still selling experienced first team players. Our current squad will be lucky to stay in the championship, which is worrying with 3 weeks to KO. I’m fed up of the club treating us like mushrooms. Morgan may own the club, but it’s not his. The fans, the stadium, the badge, the history will always be there long after hes gone. He’s just the custodian although treats us like his toy and he’s been bored with us ever since we dropped out the prem. Do you remember when he was racing round Europe picking up players in his private jet, just to get them back a bit earlier for a key championship game? I bet he wouldn’t entertain the idea now. And for a guy whose fortune went up a few hundred mill to £880mill recently he can’t even spare a bit of loose change to keep us ticking over in the championship – Instead Jackett is being made the scapegoat despite having all his best players sold and no sales proceeds to use.

Methinks The Torygraph may well be right when they said it would take 3 weeks+ and as long as it does go ahead then we’re just going to have to wait.
My only concerns are that waiting that long brings us right up to the start of the season with no new players and if it does fall through at the last minute I’m afraid that we are gong to be up the proverbial creek without a paddle and probably back in League 1 next year.

Well the time has come and gone and our information has proved fruitless and on the basis of it saying it would happen today, it has been proven untrue. This blog is only one of many where Wolves fans are trying to gleen a crumb of information to let us know one way or another what is happening in the takeover.
Many of our stars past and present have commented in the media and tried to eliviate any fears and calm the situation, but we are all hungry for the Golden ticket we have been promised.
As the publisher of the blog and this particular post, Ben is now getting the stick for the information not coming true today, this is unfair and not deserved in any shape or form, but one up man-ship does seem to be popular amongst other sites.
Many bloggers on this site already know it was MY source that gave us the lead, a lead from a person within the Molineux, as we said it would happen today, this proved bad information from a source I trusted.
I am 100% sure that the loyalty from fellow bloggers on this site will prevail and I know you will understand Ben is completely blameless in this instance. I offered the information and Ben trusted my word and posted.
So please let me say to new people coming to this site, Ben is blameless in this and I take full responsibility and regret any adverse reaction that has been directed toward Ben. This is a fantastic blog and the people posting here are both knowledgable and passionate on all thigs Wolves.

I wish you well in the future, I shall not post again but I encourage anyone looking at this site to join as I have enjoyed 2 great years on here, there are some truly wonderful people who post lots of Wolves history and share fond memories which makes this a truly great blog.

Stu. Don’t feel bad. Thid is just a blog. We are all Wolves fans. We all predict things and in my case they usually don’t happen. But I am not going to stop using the blog and neither should you or Ben or Thomas. You posted in good faith and you made it clear it was not 100% fact, it was based on sources you know and know well. So DON’T take any blame and nor should Ben. This is a fantatic blog with great people on it who we either know personally or just get to know merely through comment. The Spanish manager had signed some agreement with Wolves but in the end the chance to manage the Spanish national team proved to great. So here’s looking forward to see who will be next . 🙂
