And Wolves make history…

Ok, so it might not be an ‘It’s Ours’ headline or a ‘Richards has done it’ Wembley commentary, but when Radio WM’s Mike Taylor uttered those words at The County Ground, it still felt hugely significant.
Our ninth consecutive win for the first time will be a barely noteworthy deal to anyone outside Molineux, who have no idea how utterly toxic our club had become.
For all Wolves fans who saw lifelong bridges burned to a crisp at Brighton last May, the rebuilding job Kenny Jackett has quietly undertaken is up there with any honour in the North Bank museum.
Nine months after walking through the doors to resuscitate a comatose club with the quiet efficiency of a New Cross clinician, Kenny Jackett can reflect on nine successive wins.
Winning 4-1 at Swindon Town is a red letter result in any season and despite a football fraternity all believing it to be part of the script for moneybags Wolves, we all know better.
Replacing idiocy with intelligence takes some doing when it’s ingrained to our recent ‘DNA’.
Doing it so quickly, while replacing huge earners Doyle, Ward, Henry, Johnson and O’Hara for these unsung heroes – on a fraction of their wages – is equally noteworthy.
As for those history makers who few of us had heard of before they came, the goals arrived thus:
0-1 (nine mins): Henry with signature cross-shot to Sako, who nodded in on the line
0-2 (19 mins) Sako beautully weighted pass to Dicko, who beat defender to drill home
0-3 (34 mins) Jacobs to Sako to go one-on-one, who dispatched unerringly
1-4 (90mins) Sub Leon Clarke raced through, finishing superbly from tight angle

Aside from Leyton Orient and Brentford’s continued form of their own, this was another near-perfect day for our unchanged side.
They’ll now be told to keep their heads down, as we hold ours high for the first time in years.
Being able to call them history makers as a result is definitely a big deal, make no mistake.

4 superb goals, all for different reasons.
Clarke impressed me, slaloming through the defence and curling it in from the tightest of angles…he may look like a big lump, but that finish was more Messi than Heskey!
Keep ’em coming!
Where’ve you seen the goals? I thought you were back in China?
Yes, you’re right, but I saw them on the highlights someone kindly posted on FB that were recorded from Sky Sports…wish I could have been there to see them live. I do think if I were back in the UK I’d be tempted to get a season ticket!
The sign below the scoreboard is quite fitting, especially how the words are masked further down so that we can add our own.
“Delivering Results Through……”
(Who’s going to finish this sentence first?)
Phil Shrews
As the great Stan Cullis used to preach ” There is no substitute for hard work”, so hard work would be a suitable conclusion.
All staff at Wolverhampton Wanderers have worked hard to achieve this record. Now we have a team that earns and throughly deserves its wages.
Stay positive, we WILL achieve the big prize at the end of the season.
Spelling !! “thoroughly deserves”. A ruler across the knuckles in my schooldays!
Actually I can make out the words “Exotic People And”…. Could the Exotic be our French connection and the and be Clarke? Well he did finish the job!
Up the beards
Fantastic achiement only Sako, Stearman and Ikeme have survived from that shambles of a team of inflated egos money grabbing I’m a Premier League player, selfish couldn’t care less bunch. There names and contribution will be remembered for all the wrong reasons and rightly so.
This team will be remembered for putting some pride back into a club who had made history for all the wrong reasons. And made supporting Wolves a pleasure again.
Well done KJ, players coaches all the back room staff.
Let us not forget the contribution and character of Sako, Stearman and Ikeme.
Ikeme has been loyal, waiting patiently and fulfilling his potential when the chance arrived, also, athe beginning of the season, keeping us in many a game.
Stearman I admire, for sticking it out thru the McCarthy era, and maturing into a fine centre back.
Sako, what a fantastic player. I think young fans will see him as the ‘Steve Bull’ of his time. Would like to thank him for sticking with us and being the fulcrum of a team, that has made me proud to be a Wolves fan again.
And well done Kenny Jackett what an intelligent man you are.
Incredbile really…simply incredible! Can’t get enough! 🙂
Standing at the match amongst the amazing Wolves support (again) you could feel the tension in tne second half from players and supporters alike. But the end justified the means, we’ve put the record to bed now, we have a piece of history. Now we can relax and drive on, this was to be expected nerves, tension but they kept their heads and got the record. Onwards & Upwards now.
Well done Wolves, well done fantastic fans home and away you excel.
A proud Wolves fan of 53 years.
proud———-wolves fan 60years
Outstanding result. We actually have players who are proud to wear the shirt and who want to play and prove their worth. Well done to KJ and his team for this amazing transformation.
Lets keep it going and smash a few more records along the way.
Out of darkness cometh light – and its feeling great!!
On another example of how far we have come as a team…..
After the match when Wolves were thanking the fans for the amazing support, Danny Bahatt tried to rally his colleagues round to go and give the Wolves disabled supporters in the covered enclosure by the corner flag a well deserved hug for their support. He went across and shook hands with every single escort and gave a hug to the fans in wheelchairs making their special night even better. Well Done Mr Bhatt a true Gentleman, hold your head high. You’ve got my vote.
Every time we go out on the pitch these days, This manager and group of players fill me with optimism, The Naysayers have been firmly shut up now. KJ has done a magnificent job something which I thought was impossible last May, KJ has made me proud of my football club again, Proud to say I support Wolves and proud of my Wolverhampton roots although I moved away a few years ago.
I’ve said a few times to take each game as it comes, But we’re cut from a different cloth than the rest of the division and we will see this through I’ve no doubts, All the worrying at the beginning of the season about how long we’d languish in the third tier has dissipated on this wonderful run. of form and long may that continue.
KJ and his backroom staff deserve bloody knighthoods for giving us not only our club back but our identity back as well, WE ARE WOLVES, We’re a footballing institution in our own right and we will in time get back to where we belong, And it couldn ‘t come at better time as that lot down the road are hell bent on getting relegated this season. It really is a fantastic time to be supporting our club.
What a team this is.
Yeah, yeah, it’s only League One and all that but can you say with any degree of confidence that our Premier League squad would have dispatched some of these opponents with the swagger in which the current crop have?
I can’t.
Many have correctly pointed out a renewed sense of pride, work ethic and team spirit, but I think it’s also important to recognise quality.
The pace of Sako and Dicko combined with the culture of Jacobs and Henry is devastating, with Price and McDonald orchestrating the whole operation from deep. Behind that you’ve got a back four that are as comfortable snapping at heels as they are cantering into the opposition’s half and a goalkeeper that saves (nearly) everything.
For as long as Kenny can keep that XI fit and motivated, I can’t see any League One team beating us. We’ve got too much over 90 minutes for anyone to handle.
It’s perverse that winning this many games on the trot at such a late point in the season hasn’t all but guaranteed promotion. Credit must go to our rivals for that I suppose.
But 9 wins should (barring horrendous bad luck or loss of form) become 10 on Saturday, whilst Brentford and Orient slug it out with each other to avoid losing ground. That, combined with our games in hand on Orient, will hopefully shape a more pleasing picture.
So happy for Leon .. Terrific goal , his feet were so quick and clean , hope wolves fans don’t get on his back for being lazy as his style is similar to e banks .. Lovely goal . Just when the Swindon fans had finished singing abuse at him ( couldn’t tell what the song was as we drowned them out with top of the league ) .. Also great that sir jack was there eh ! Well done kenny and the team !!! FOWB
SHREWS ….I think Thomas has finished the scoreboard …… Delivering results through a renewed sense of pride !
Oh what a beautiful morning
Oh what a beautiful day
I’ve got a wonderful feeling
Everything’s going our way
Or, to quote Cool Runnings…
I see pride! I see power! I see a bad ass mother, who don’t take no crap off nobody!
Can anybody tell me what the best result for us would be from the Bees and the Os on Saturday?
The more I think about it, the more I think it doesn’t matter if they both bloody win it. They’re never gonna catch us!
Me and the present Mrs DG’er arrived rather early so had a pretty tasty cheeseburger and chips before strolling to the players entrance to clap the boys in when they arrived in the big black bus.
Kuddly Ken stopped to sign autographs and have a quick chat with a few supporters.
As the lady wife said “What a chucky egg he is!”
I think I know what she means.
Then we went and sat in the stand.
And from the moment the team came out for their warm up – applauding us few fans that were there at the time..
…Through the ridiculous cavorting of the Swindon mascot…
…Through a first half where we played some of the most sublime football I have seen, ripping Swindon apart…
…Through a second half when instead of going on to win by eight we sat back and started to play like the team we are all trying to forget…
…Through the whole game of fervent supporters willing the lads on to the record…
…Through Leon Clarke’s superbly taken last minute goal…
…Through the final whistle when the record had been broken and whole team came across to applaud an adoring set of fans…
..It was one of the most compelling evenings of my life.
…And I WAS THERE!
Nine wins on the bounce is a fantastic achievement for any team at any level of football.
Big congratulations to the players, management and coaching staff for setting a new record which hopefully we can extend into double figures!!
UTW
I didn’t like this fixture but look what happend..it really should be 10 on Saterday and a 1-1 draw for the London mobs would be nice..
We can’t (inc me) keep saying it’s only league 1…
I think this is history in the making and the roots were grown this season with what’s becoming a master squad for the master plan..
We must be a good bet for going up again next season ..I hope that KJ can demand that our players will not be sniped at in the transfer season too..
So let’s look forward to the final fixtures without crapping ourselves..

Thank you Sky for recognising our quality. They are preparing for next year already!

All the above will fit, but especially the word down. I believe we are where we are because of him. Thank you for coming Sir.
UTW/FOWB

Don’t know where the last two words came from. Must have been my notes!!! lol
Dare I say – we’re looking unbeatable.
That really was a ruthless first half performance, we could have had 5 or 6. Second half we stepped off the gas and they came into it but we stood firm and always had bodies blocking shots. I was really impressed our MF pair: Jack Price, he keeps it simple and always finds his man. Supermac’s passing was a bit wayward but he put in some good crunching challenges when needed to and always tried for that quality ball. The finishing was excellent first half, a bit hesitant in the second saw us waste a few good opps – but Clarke’s goal was the icing on the cake. These are good times, enjoy them!
And what I thought was nice, was Sir Jack being there.
Some slag him off. Some say he should have spent more. Some say how stupid he was for selling to SM.
Either way, he is still a Wolves man. There on a record breaking night. And there shoulder to shoulder, not in a fancy Directors Box with other certain people…..
Just been doing a little research, I believe the all time record for consecutive league wins in England’s top 4 divisions is 14, is it possible?? We’re almost 2/3rds of the way there!
Most consecutive wins: 14, joint record:
Arsenal (Premier League between 10 February 2002 and 24 August 2002) (Top-flight record)
Manchester United (Second Division, 1904–05)
Bristol City (Second Division, 1905–06)
Preston North End (Second Division, 1950–51)
2 more that May or may not be achieveable
Most points in a season (3 points for a win): 106, Reading (Championship, 2005–06)
Most wins in a season: 33, Doncaster Rovers (Third Division North, 1946–47; final record P42 W33 D6 L3)
Breaking records in league 1 sure feels better than struggling for draws in the premiership UTW!!
Just worked out that if we win 10 of the last 12 games we will be promoted automatically regardless of anything. Obviously that will change after Saturday but that’s how it stands at the minute. Then again maths was never a strong point. Out of darkness cometh light….never has our club motto felt more fitting (apart from 1986/87 perhaps with Bully et al ?).
Agree with all the sentiments so ably posted above. So proud to have been amongst the fans at Swindon last night to see history being made. Every one of the Wolves goals was superbly crafted, showing that all the forwards have now taken on board KJ’s message that we needed to be more clinical with our finishing to win games. Well they are certainly doing that now and with style.
I was particularly pleased for Leon being able to show his goal-scoring ability, made even sweeter by the fact that he shut up the Swindon boo-boys in the process.
It was certainly a very special evening for all the Wolves fans who turned up in such good numbers to see the ninth successive win, giving this special group of players their rightful place in Wolves history. Well done to all involved – especially our loyal fans.
Right , that’s it … Enough is enough . I am going to games expecting us to pummel the opposition and we are doing , I was annoyed that Swindon scored a goal against us as I hAve been telling the London folk that a team won’t even score against us let alone beat us for the rest of the season , now I realise what it’s been like to support Man U all those years, I am now an arrogant prick , SACK THAT JACKETT !!! Bring back Saunders . Bring back hoddle , fuck sake !!! I don’t even know who i am now
Apart from when I was between 8 and 11 paying my shilling to get by the wall in the Waterloo Road enclosure and thinking my team could do no wrong, and would win every week,I never thought that feeling would return.
But here it is,and what a great feeling it is.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s great to get the record but we can’t be complacent. Saying that we should easily beat Shrews on Saturday.
The huge challenge will be Sheff Utd on Tuesday. They are on a more incredible run than us, they have won their last 10 games, including winning against Fulham, Forest and Charlton in the FA Cup. If they get passed Preston on Saturday that will be 11 straight wins. They have conceded only one in all those 10 games, in the 3-1 win against Forest. This will be a juicy affair with the winner having the potential to chase down the elusive 14 game winning record. A fantastic bit of extra spice to fire up the lads before the game!
United’s on the Saturday, Putney. We’ve got Crawley on Tuesday.
But i agree, it’s a more incredible run even than our’s i reckon.
It will be a proper test of how far we’ve come.
Ah yes, well hopefully we’ll be on an even bigger run by then. It’s an early KO too so hopefully be some coverage.
I just hope you are all grateful…….
New Zealand mail is faster than Sako!
Twixfix posted me a card on Saturday, and it arrived today, friggin’ brill!
Thanks, Twixo, it is in pride of place behind the mantle clock, and I am bloody jealous that you got to go there!
You will all have noticed that my usual immediate response to yet another Wolves win has been missing since Tuesday night’s massacre of Swindon.
Reason being my eyes have been so full of tears of pride and joy at our wonderful team, history being made, and the awesome sound of not hearing greasel spout drivel!
Nuff said about the 9 bouncing wins, the goals were all great, but then again, there is no such thing as a bad goal. However, when they are crafted with such skill as wot we did, it just brings despair and gloom to them on the opposing side.
When lucky goals are scored, it makes opponents roll up their sleeves and try harder. When skillfully sublime goals are scored, it knocks the snot out of them, and they give up!!
Bring on the shrews, and the blades, who must still have nightmares about Cardiff!!!
A week ago, Citeh were bragging about a quadruple.
Now they gonna be lucky just to have the Tea Cup on their shelf.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer club, except manure, or the shit, or leeds, or…… fill in the blank!
Happy Days again.

Traditionally a Wolves supporter never feels at ease when the team is only one up but I’ve never felt so tense when three goals ahead the other night. It was so obvious that the record meant so much to everyone that no one dared talk about it until the final whistle went. Knowing the new team as we do now, we shouldn’t have been nervous but we’ve been disappointed so many times in the past that it was difficult to take on board what was happening. Though noisey initially we did go quiet at times in the second half and you really could feel the nerves both on and off the pitch. The goal in added time really was the icing on the cake and made for a perfect end to a memorable night. The best bit – my young son saying “this hasn’t happened since 1877 and I’m actually here”.
I finished work early to get home and listen to the match live in the crazy 26 degrees spring sunshine here in Virginia.
Couldn’t believe (yet could) my ears as we coasted to 3 up before the break.
Then sat uncomfortably for the second half as we appeared to let our foot off the pedal.
Saw all the goals the next morning, and what a sight that was to behold.
Each was a well worked team effort with a superior individual finish.
I must have watched them 20 times over already, and shared the link with all my stateside Premier League adopted club friends.
Wolves are gonna get ya, I proudly proclaimed.
Sheer class, pure brilliance, the exact opposite of the dross we have had to endure recently.
Beautiful football. The likes of which I haven’t seen our team play for years.
I told my boys just now after showing them the goals again, this Wolves team would give anybody in the world a run for their money right now.
A straight forward 3_0 to us.No pressure,bring it on.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
