Remember the time when Dennis Bergkamp once shopped in Asda?

Granted, the Loch Ness style sighting might just have been a hoax – with a smart, lean doppelganger tripping through those revolving doors at the very same time – but didn’t it feel exciting?
Back in June 2003, nothing was impossible and aspiration reigned supreme.
It began within an hour of the final whistle sounding in Cardiff, where Joe Cole’s name was banded around the delirious gold and black masses as if he’d already put pen to paper.
After all, ex United, Liverpool and Inter legend Paul Ince had chosen us, so the prospect of us landing other household names genuinely sounded plausible, didn’t it?
Ten years on and we can’t even land Martin Paterson from Burnley.
It’s not that this particular player induces a Hitchcock sound effect and a Robert Taylor shower scene. Far from it.
It is more the complete by-passing of any sense of endeavour and ambition, which are words reserved for a host of other clubs bar our own.
We don’t even shop in Asda anymore, opting for Sanjay’s Supermarket scraps along the Birches Barn Road.
How it all came to this is a blog for another time, but the names being mentioned today are barely more enticing than Danny Senda, Jemal Johnson and Darren Potter back in 2006, when three years of Premier League trappings were but a pipe dream.
That we all wearily shrug our shoulders when Simeon Jackson signs for Brighton says it all. Job done as far as Moxey and Morgan are concerned.
To dream the impossible dream these days is simply not an option, not even when the dream is for a 37 year-old Bolton striker who’d probably prefer to go home to Chesterfield anyway.
Don’t dream, so don’t be disappointed if we miss out on Martin Paterson, it seems.
As we fester in 23rd place, with two wins in 12 and three first teamers on the sick bed, we have a few hours to take action, and possibly entice a few season ticket sales in the process.
Quite who we’ll sign is anyone’s guess.
Judging by our recent ‘dealings’, Asda is unlikely to be on red alert.

I have heard a rumour that Campbell Chapman has been seen outside the Asda. Not sure if he is on his way to sign for the Old Gold or if he is working at the Dinky Tram, but lets just say that both are possible.
I heard a rumour that Lee Chapman was with him (what a strike force that’d be!) He looked rather angry at being in Asda in the first place. ‘Something Lesley Ash should be doing,’ he was heard muttering.
You sound about as hopeful as me about our current situation.
Burnley have turned us down – Burnley! In no way do I mean any disrespect to them but weren’t we in the Premier League for three years, accumlating all the wealth that a position in that league entails? Far be it from another “where’s the money gone” point but we should have more sway or be more determined that this!
I dont think Dean is the right man for the job but whoever is, if they aren’t backed suitably by the board, they aren’t going to succeed. Whether Paterson was the answer or not is another question but the fact that we have not signed him and seem content with our situation is appauling.
I’m looking forward to recieving my refund when we’re relegated, although I suspect that it will be in the form of derogatory money off vouchers for over priced merchandise
Happy Easter fellow Wolves fans
I’m looking for full refund .. not a few pence off in Merchandise Vouchers.
They will be unable to refuse a refund since (if we are relegated) they have been unable to give a price for the product on offer !!
I`m one of the 34% who haven`t renewed. This latest story sums it all up, if ever proof was needed that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. As said above a remarkable lack of care and ambition. How many scouts and senior football men are there in our club, and this is really the best we can go for. Crisis – what crisis say Morgan and Moxey. Well survival – as in the first 2 premiership years – may yet depend on there being 3 worse teams that Wolves, rather than our own abilities.
I`m not going Saturday, I`m at queen tribute gig in Nottingham with a table for dinner booked for 6pm. Thats entertainment and stress free, so I hope we do get some new faces in who are better than those already in our squad, and we win the game on Saturday and Monday. Do`nt hold your breath.
It has been a wonderful two weeks off, reading about our national heros valiantly slaying those mighty footballing dragons, San Marino and Montenegro.
Watching Mark Webber and Schumacher # 2, Vettel, getting into it in Malaysia, and Tigger bonking all and sundry on the ski slopes.
North and South Korea squaring up for another non event, and that useless twat Obummer poncing around the middle east with all his muslim brethren.
Ah, the joys of not watching the present day Wolves.
On an aside, it seems that Steven Fletcher, him of ex Wolves fame, is now out for the rest of the season, and in danger of becoming one of few with the dubious distinction of having been relegated from the Prem 3 times in four years, with three different clubs.
Takes some doing.
Today’s trivia quiz: can you name any others with said distinction?
I understand global warming is having a profound effect over there in England, where it aint stopped snowing for a week!!
Love to all, I’m off to see Elton John this evening.
FOwb
Clive, I think you watching Elton John in America trumps Big Mark watching a Queen tribute gig in Nottingham!! (No offence Mark, I’m sure you’ll have a brilliant evening!!)
As for your quiz…I ain’t got a clue! Neil Redfearn? Andy O’Brien. Yes, gotta be Andy O’Brien. Bradford, Pompey, Newcastle?
Thought I saw David Furnish outside the Mol!
Only kidding.
An Elton take over, a gift for their son.
Mr Nobody wants to go to Wolves.
We are the Dracula’s Castle of the Championship.
Nightmare prediction that on relegation, M & M ‘lease’ club.
Redrow retains freehold of stadium and property, like at Coventry, new owner gets late on payments and Morgan bankrupts us…
You heard it here first.
Still hope desperately that we stay up….
But it ain’t looking good…
I agree Ben.
Why watch a queen tribute when you can see the real thing in all his glory?
What about Stephen Hunt? Reading, Hull, Wolves?
Wolves are going about their transfer business as they always do, looking for cheap, short term acquisitions and failing miserably! Having Burnley reject an offer tells us all how much Wolves are now respected.
One day Morgan and Moxey will wake up and realise that football is a non-profit making business. That balancing the books is not a requirement and that the playing squad demands constant investment to keep up with the times or get left behind, which is what’s happened.
Under Morgan’s ownership we have seen the rebuild of the Stan Cullis Stand (now a complete white elephant), the transfers of our best players to reduce the wage bill (and not being replaced) and those points aside, Morgan and Moxey both ignored the possibility that Wolves would not gain promotion immediately or even worse could get relegated again. Morgan is now wetting himself constantly as he will have to finally and not before time put his hands into his very deep pockets to pay the salaries of a lot of washed up deadbeats next season and maybe League 1 deadbeats too!
IF SERIOUS INVESTMENT had taken place when in the Premier League, the current situation would not have happened and the club would not be scratting around looking for bit-part players to make up the numbers. Also, if ambition was to be shown and in the right direction, a manager with a pedigree would have been employed ie Curbishley and not someone with limited experience who is unable to change fortunes around as it seems Saunders is incapable of doing.
Still Morgan and Moxey only have themselves to blame for the mess but they can walk away any time they like, unfortunately it is the Wolves fans who have to put up with the results of their cock-ups but then isn’t it always the fans who suffer most and never those who make the blunders?
we are where we are because we are what we are ..poor . cannot even get interested in anything wolves this season. so its hardly a shock noone is coming to us.”no-onelikes us cos were crap” the motto for 2013
i think the players should take acid…that would be an amazing game to watch-plus we wouldnt have to buy any new players then! rocknroll man!
Great idea old goldy….
At least they would provide an intentional comic show.
And on that theme (not Wolves) try my video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01y6DMpi0fs
Good idea old goldy…
I think I might have a couple of tabs left over from a particularly colourful party in the late sixties. If I can only remember where I left my Afghan sheepherder’s coat.
Is this guy really the height of our ambition?
Is he better than what we already have?
This shows the level we have sunk to.
Totally pissed off with the whole shebang.
Don’t know why I posted really – I get more and more fed up with the way this club is run with each day that passes. We have muppets running the show and a muppet managing the team. We may as well sign Kermit.
I wish I could just walk away and support someone else but like the rest of us on here I can’t. Wolves is my team and I hate to see what is happening to them.
After I’d ranted at her for half an hour about the plight of Wolves, my Mrs came out with the classic: “Why don’t you just support somebody else?”
“If only it were that simple” was the reply that led to a silent dive home.
Remember Step, “tough times don’t last, tough people do”
Haha. Good comment. I think we are all going to end up in the same ward by continuing to support the Wolves.
The same what?
Please use another word to describe a hospital room!
Exactly what crossed my mind Clive, perhaps Steppenwolf said the dreaded wo(a)rd on purpose…
Paterson’s a decent Championship player, but that apart this tells us all we need to know about where the club are coming from.
Wasn’t it only a few days ago that Saunders was telling us he was waiting on certain Premiership clubs to ensure their safety before approaching them to borrow some players ? So why, pray, are we trying to loan players from fellow Championship clubs… ?
He currently plays at the left wing for Burnley, which explains why, now as Sako is out with injury, Paterson is an interesting transfer object. Burnley rejected our bid – end of story.
Saunders is interested in covers for Edwards and Sako: a midfielder, a keeper and a striker. I hope the striker he brings in can add power, strength, pace and has the ability to score. The defensive enforcements Saunders brought in have done us good. So I believe Saunders has the ability to bring on board a decent striker also. He’s done remarkably well on the transfer market at his previous clubs.
So then…Wolves are unprepared to take in any extra wage bills. The cost of another relegation…vs a couple of extra wage bills…
I can’t agree with that. I really can’t.
We’re most likely to end up with supermarket sweepings rather than any bargain loans.
No Sako for the rest of the season means I am very afraid, but while there is still hope I’ll keep hoping.
no reason for the circus to end now … im sure Steve Moron has much much more up his sleeve
We “damaged” Bristol City though, didn’t we ? As well as the tactics board and Ikeme’s mit. True, you can’t just support another club which is the retort of most unaffected females but what happens is even worse. You can lose interest in footy itself and I can’t believe that at 54 yrs. I am allowing that to happen. My weekends are almost finished.
i feel exactly the same….only a matter of time before we stop completely. its killing any enjoyment in football completely.
Hi everyone. Greetings from the sunny climate of Atlanta. Springs in the air which is more than I can say for the snowy midlands. Hearing rumors that Brian McDermott is in Wolverhampton for something. Doubt it whether its true or not, would certainly be a good pick up I think, better that what we have today. Keep the fingers crossed for a Win this weekend but, not quite that optimistic.
Cheers.
I heard that Mark Hughes was spotted along with Slavan Bilic and Stanley Cullis.
Didn’t think for a minut we would sign anyone… and I actually just dont care any more.
And you all thought we wouldn’t sign anyone:
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2013/03/28/wolves-sign-wigan-winger-nouha-dicko-on-loan/
From the Premier League no less…
Good or bad, the South Bank will have a field day with this guy’s name.
Although this guy looks like he has a decent record in the champ, it’s very disheartening to think we are signing players on loan from Wigan… players they don’t need in their team… what a terrible couple of years its been. Wigan.
Thomas, what’s going on??? The blog looks all different. White ‘n’ stuff
We’re having technical problems of late and I’m struggling to find the solution. Apologies to all if you experience slow down or bugs.
bens on acid! man its so cool!
I’m very happy with the new recruits. Too bad we couldn’t strengthen the attack though. Who knows, maybe we end up signing this Dicko fellow permanently if he does well? Only 20 years old he’s a great prospect. Pacey and french
Thank god it isn’t permanent then – was beginning to worry that it was!
…and it goes back to normal the instant I say that!
So the Dick signs Dicko!
If only we could get a Messi-ah to sign Messi.
Seriously Saunders fucking do one you turd.
Btw I don’t think we could sign Messi before someone accuses me of having my head in the clouds.
Elegantly put… way to add to the discussion…
I still think Saunders is making the best of a bad situation here. Why blame him for a situation that we were in long before his appointment? Can we get a bit of perspective?
This lad seems a genuine talent at this level and god knows we could use one. Shame he and Sako won’t be playing together. Two talented french wingers could do us a world of good.
As ever, we live in hope.
“Why blame him for a situation that we were in long before his appointment?”
What? We weren’t getting relegated before he came in, we were nearer the play offs than relegation.
How he’s getting away with rewriting things is unbelievable.
Kello and Dicko eh?
I’d assumed we’d be signing Dodo and Lemming.
In Memphis, just driven here from Nashville.
Our club is in a shocking state. Dumb and Dumber fiddling while Rome burns.
Whole first team need to go. Fearing the worst.
I was prepared to give Beano, the benefit but enoughs enough.
Don’t know anything about Dicko, but if he’s any good we’ll have to see starting with middlesborough.
Its a bit worrying what Deano said on the radio WM tonight, saying he’s only got a small budget
to get player’s in, after all the money we got from the transfers, close on 30 mil.he also said we don’t want to bankrupt the club, sounds like moxey all over again when will he ever get his priorities right.
what ever happens to this club god only knows but one thing is for certain moxey got to go once and for all,he’s dragged us down far enough and its going to take us decades to get us back again to the prem if we ever get back.FOJM.UTW.
Yes, but how much did MM pay for Jarvis and Kightly? The prize doesn’t necessary say anything, especially not if it’s a young player. The question is if he’ll succeed at Wolves. If we were a mid table team the end of the season would be boring. If we escapes relegation we’ll end the campaign celebrating. I love it, the thrill of it all ;))
He also said the cold weather had ruined our preparation for Boro despite the fact the cold weather hasn’t just affected Wolverhampton (funnily enough) and that we’re the only side in the league with under soil heating on our training ground.
So the reality is we should be at an advantage.
Not for Deano though. The guy’s a grade A pleb who’ll find an excuse for everything.
So without wanting to defend the all evil axis at the helm, ignore the pleb. Just do what I do and pretend he doesn’t exist.
Kello and Dicko for Wolvo – its like the fuckin Beano, Deano! Go Pronto!
Outside property development Morgan has got
no faith in himself or our club its just a plaything to buy the company of football people.
Typing this at 1.15am, when I should be asleep, in a nice, warm, ultra comfy bed.
Somehow, I can feel the cold wind blowing from seaside clubs such as Scunthorpe and Hartlepool. Mind you, I will be able to jump on a bus to Bescot.
You couldn’t make it up could you. Forget the Fans Parliament tosh about being pig-sick. Not as pig-sick as we are at the lack of ambition etc. And before they come out with the rubbish about how much reveue they have lost, they are about to loose a whole lot more.
At this rate, I could imagine seeing Moxey in Asda, buying the match-day pies……….
SACK THE FATMAN.
They said they wouldnt bankrupt the club when it came to buying players and paying their wages. But they are going to bankrupt the club by not investing in players. If any fans still believe the lies that flow out of molineux anymore, you just look at the signings since jan that shows the ambition of morgan. Words are cheap. Actions and professional footballers aren’t.
Please, Karlir-Johanarnt Kristjanson, can you tell me what you are taking?
You are unfailingly optimistic and cheerful and I would like to sample some of what is making you this way.
I can’t decide whether you are barking mad or a wise soothsayer.
Whatever it is, don’t change, it’s the one bright spot on this blog at the moment.
:=) the last results and team performance are two factors. At least the end of the season is interesting, I choose this viewpoint instead of pitch black attack on the board for not spending money, for in the recent matches we’ve done well and managed 2 victories in 3 matches. And now we’ve signed Kello, a decent goalie, and Dicko, a pacey and powerful player that can play in a striker role as well as a winger.
There are eight games left and we have to have faith that we can survive.
Think SEB and Hunt will be pivotal to our fate, Both match winners on their day and quality shines through in the end.
I really believe we will be alright failure is just not an option.
