Victory at the Stadium of Light last season ultimately gave us the points total we needed to survive in the Premier League.
How sad then that we return a year later all but relegated barring the most astonishing turnaround in the history of the game.

Looking across at the home dugout, I’m sure Steve Morgan will be wondering what might have been had he dropped the axe on Mick McCarthy back in November after a run of five defeats on the bounce.
Around the same time of course Sunderland relieved Steve Bruce of his duties, brought in Martin O’Neill and sat back comfortably in their chairs to watch the Black Cats storm up the table.
On the weekend O’Neill took over, Wolves won the reverse fixture at Molineux to move them away from the relegation zone at the expense of their opponents. Sunderland now have 42 points, nearly double our current total.
7 home wins, 5 draws and just 4 defeats makes the Wearsiders ground a formidable place to visit these days, so Terry Connor has a job on his hands if he’s to gain any sort of temporary rest bite.
The Team
We know there will be one change to the side at least with Bassong suspended. That space will almost certainly be occupied by Christophe Berra. Dave Edwards is also a doubt I’m hearing, so assuming he’s out, this is the side I would send out:

I think if recent weeks have taught us anything, it’s that our wingers are our matchwinners. The tactic must therefore be to get the ball to them in good areas as quickly and as often as possible.
Therefore I’d definitely play 5 in midfield with just a lone forward up top. Kevin Doyle was fantastic against Arsenal I thought, so he should definitely keep his place, assuming we adopt an identical system. That said, I’m never disappointed to see Steven Fletcher in the side.
Prediction League
Unsurprisingly most of you correctly said we’d lose against Arsenal. 26 pundits in total went for defeat and 6 of those got the 3-0 scoreline too.
Well done to Bagsy, Haywood Wolf, geordiewolf, Ade in China, sleachy and Philly Pete for all getting the maximum 3 points on offer. It’s a single for everyone else.
Call me an optimistic fool if you will, but I think we might get something this weekend. Only a point though.
2-2.
If you’re making the long trip up north, have a great time and get behind the lads as you always do. To the end.
Up The Wolves.

I think its more of the same…heroic failure! TC isn’t a manager by any stretch of the imagination…and he is no way ready to be pitted against the tactical nous that MON possesses…therefore I’m going with Sunderland 3 – 1 Wolves. With Sunderland now being safe…and thoughts turning to next season for MON…then maybe just maybe we might catch them snoozing…but only maybe…and I’m not willing to stake a claim on it! Relegation by Monday is far more likely…
We will lose by 2 goals, I’m gonna say 3-1 with one of our wingers getting a goal pointless other than to advertise their premier league quality to the other 19 clubs in the league.
Arsenal will also beat Wigan, meaning we have to go through another week before relegation is confirmed and we might just see some positive action from the boardroom to prepare us for next season. Unlikely tho….
From a Sunderland perspective we really need to win games like this (no disrespect to Wolves intended) so I am going for a Sunderland home win…..not sure about a clean sheet so I will say a tight 2-1…….as a football team I don’t mind Wolves at all…….good luck for the rest of the season and the future.
I don’t think for one minute Martin O’Neil will let his team take their foot off the peddle, so we are in for a torrid afternoon….again.
Can you loan him to us for next year, please?
Houston, Tx. Clive?
I’m in Rosenberg. Have been swapping messages recently with another fan in Clear Lake.
Yes, I live in Spring……Bammel Forest actually, corner of Kuykendahl and 1960.
Lets get together soon and drown our sorrows.
E mail Thomas or Ben to get my e mail address.
FOWB
First shot on target before 75th minute, but only just.
Sunderland 4 Wolves 0
Paperclipboard will play the same sorry assed team, with minor tweaks, without thinking about bringing in the kids for some experience for the future, coz he knows he aint got no future at The Mol………………….unless greasel is not fired.
Prediction for the future?
Molineux Estates, the latest in “In Town living”, luxury condominiums on what was once hallowed ground, formerly known as The Golden Palace.
This is morgan’s vision for the future, mark my words. The Mol is a prime piece of real estate, and him and greasel have a plan to carve it up into dwelling units.
Football?
Forget it, there hasn’t been any played there worthy of the name for some time.
Totally disillusioned over here………..I’m off to the baseball.
Is there a prize for using the word ‘future’ the most times in a blog, then?
Yes, and i won it!!
In future, I will carefully reed ovah wot I right, sews not to miss enni spellin or grummatikal errerz, sews I wont pissoff ennie reeders like ewe.
Note to Clive….must do better in future.
You need to get out more, Kowloon, if all you gotta do is proof read the crap coming from Houston!!!
FOWB
I seem to remember you pointing out grammatical errors in the past Clive !
He’s right, Clive. You do point out grammatical errors. You’ve also done that “reed ova wot I right” comeback before as well 😉
Like my wife says ” you gotta get some new material”
No I don’t.
Should be a comma after the word past, though!!!!!!!
Just for the record, it’s me who liked both your replies!! 🙂
Sunderland 2-0 Wolves. One of these days I am going to judge the severity of our defeat just right!
Too little, too late – a 2-1 win. Where`s the matches for the waccy baccy? …..out of darkness cometh light…..where are you Morgan?…..nothing to say you prat……what have you let Moxey & MM do to our great club, now a laughing stock!!
2 – 1 loss.
Why change the habit of a lifetime?
what is the point guessing the result ..its a bit like someone thinking they have won some money when dying of cancer-sounds a bit like moxey with all the early birds!! this club seems to be slowly reversing off a cliff ..i mean dedicating a win to t.c.!!!!!! how about just all the players just keeping their mouths shut and doing what they are paid to do!! and another thing..if t.c. gets the job i will not be going again ! i for the first time EVER am so embarrased to say i am a wolves supporter and lay the blame at the owners door..a shambles!!!!!!
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But we’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats we saw that day. Then shall the names,
Familiar in this blog as household words-
Henry the Captain, Wardy and Zubar,
Stearman and Fletcher, Jarvis and Kightley-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And April 14th shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But they in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that plays for Wolves
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, (yes even you Roger)
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in Texas now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks
That played against Sunderland.
Wolves 2 Sunderland 1
Superb, Danny, now comes our winter of discontent…unless reflection and action from tip to toe occurs.
Moron will be at Wembley tying up a deal for Jarvis.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Moron is Bhattis in disguise-next thing we will here is relocating the ground.
Should be a nice little earner.
So fed up of this shambolic season.
Sunderland 3 Wolves 0.
Tomorrow is the day we get our first clean sheet since the beginning of time and actually win a game 2-0 Wolves!
2 teams with nothing to play for other than pride!
Stole this off the E & S web site, weird but funny.
TC was feeling a bit down after Wednesday’s match, so me and Mick decided to take him on a day trip to the seaside to cheer him up. ‘We may not be able to lift your team,’ said Mick,’but we can lift your spirits.’ So off we went, the glum fledgling manager fastened into his kiddies seat at the back and navigator Mick working out the best route for us to Conwy, North Wales. TC had hardly said a word as we cruised through Llangollen with its lush, green hinterland. As I looked in the rear mirror, I could see the tears welling up in TC’s eyes. ‘Gee, what’s up, TC ? We’re meant to be having fun today.’ Mick did his best to help as well. ‘Come on, lad, get a grip. Do something to take your mind off football. You haven’t even opened that I Spy book I bought for you this morning.’ Finally TC broke his silence: ‘It’s the fans. They said I didn’t know what I was doing. Now that hurts a lot.’ ‘But they’re fickle,’ insisted Mick. ‘Jekyll and Hyde. Hovis and Warburton. South and North bank. Now can we please stop talking about football ?’ Mick wound the window down slightly. ‘Mmmm, delicious fresh air. Hey, look, Tez, a black sheep. Worth 50 points in your book.’ Mick nudged me and leant over: ‘A few more than 22.’ it was probably a good job that TC didn’t hear this last remark.
I’d never tried it before, but there was something relaxing about crabbing in Conwy. The troubles of the football world seemed a million leagues away as we dangled our feet and lines over the harbour wall. I looked across to TC. ‘Lovely, eh, TC ?’ I felt good that TC felt good. ‘Super,’ enthused TC. ‘Reminds me of my days in Brighton. I was a cult hero there, you know ?’ Mick leant over and whispered in my ear: ‘Did he say cult hero ? He’s not far off being one at Molineux. Think about it, lad.’ TC glared at Mick. ‘Look ! There you go again. Talking behind my back and trying to undermine my authority.’ ‘Well you’re the one who brought the subject of football up again. Let it go, TC, let it go, lad.’
Soon the bucket was full and crabs were clambering over each other to get out of the bucket. I suggested putting them back, but TC wouldn’t hear of it. ‘No, I’ve got an idea. I’ve been counting them and we’ve got 11. Let’s develop a team. I know it’s football, but I can’t let it go and I thought that…’ Poor TC was in a world of his own as we dutifully followed his suggestion of making a seaweed pitch. We then lined up the crabs in a 6-3-1 formation and watched them crawl around aimlessly. The fun ended as a group of cheeky kids started singing insensitive songs at us. I think they were from Liverpool, because they gave us a rather original rendition of Walk On: ‘Sideways, sideways, with a team full of crabs, and you’ll never score again…’ it went.
Llandudno is a busy, bustling seaside resort. We had lunch at a seafood restaurant on the front. TC had by this time gone right into his shell and demanded a total ban on football talk. We drifted towards the pier in the afternoon and spent the 5 pounds Jez had given us in the amusement arcade. Mick offered to pay for TC to have his palm read by Gypsy Sammi Lee. I don’t know why, but TC suddenly lost it and stormed off to the end of the pier. Mick looked at me in amazement. ‘But it’s got nothing to do with football,’ I confirmed. ‘Quite right,’ agreed Mick. ‘The fortune teller would probably have told him that he didn’t have a future in it. Then she would’ve concentrated on other matters.’
It took fully 20 minutes to coax TC back to us for the return journey. He cried all the way back when he found out that his time wasting had done him out of an ice cream.
3-1 to Sunderland. Our only remaining points this season will come against an Everton side focused on a cup final, in a glorious Molineux farewell to the Premier League.
Taken from the BBC website..
Says it all really.. Wonder if The 2 M’s knew this?
Did you know?
Terry Connor has taken one point from his first eight games in charge; the only manager to make a worse start at a Premier League club was Mick McCarthy, who earned no points in eight games at Sunderland in 2003
Morgan OUT!!! Moxey OUT!!! TC OUT!!! Johnson OUT!!!
What my kids really like about these blogs is that you can sing them to the tune of the hokey cokey.
ps. Clive really works in Bilston library.
There is no library in Bilston, you have to have patrons who can read!!
I actually work in the C… & Trumpet, Sunday mornings with Tommy Burton and Reg Curle.
Anyone else remeber those days???
i can almost see the tumbleweed blowing accross molineux with only moxey and morgan there….get it sorted you pair of clowns and try to save the only shred of dignity that is left!!!! i am sick and tired of the pantomime that used to be called the mighty wolves….moxey you remind me of little red riding hood-its just that this wolf WILL get you!!! keep the gold flag flying high..
We extend our beaten run with ease and aplomb.
Sunderland 3 Wolves 1
Sunderland 3
Wolves 1
Our team often played worse back in McCarthy’s time – but one thing has remained consistent – we’ve had a lot of bad luck and bad decisions go against us. So on the basis that it surely must end soon, I’m going for 3-1 to Wolves……….
….Terry Connor today insisted he has strengthened his position as a managerial candidate despite Wolves’ perilous position… asked if his record had weakened his position, the boss (TC) said: “I think I’ve enhanced it. (express and star)
I thought TC was just deluded but after so many losses I think he’s losing his mind; he actually thinks he’s doing a good job! I guess we should be thankful he’s not doing a bad job.
Perhaps becoming a PL record breaker is his aim, so inevitable failure again tomorrow, going for Sunderland 3 Wolves 0.
I’d really like some of what TC’s on
He’s lost it-too much MM in his thinking. God this club is in a mess.
Lets build a new stand-what the f*** were they thinking.
Hitler in his bunker.
2-1 to sunderland. I can’t see them shutting us out completely but I think we all know a win isn’t on the cards.
Relegated by monday?
Should be a surprise result somewhere along the line so maybe a draw 2-2.
Two personal observations:
1) I dont think west brom have cut there prices for next season just out of the goodness of there hearts.Helped by the referees the Premier league is in danger of just becoming a show case for the Champions league contenders.
2) While most Wolves fans hate the ground redevelopment, like they hate most things at the moment,i think having one of the best stadiums in the Midlands might have helped us long term.Spending money on a couple of big time Charlies not good enough to interest bigger clubs certainly hasnt helped us much in the short term.
3-0 to sunderland
Another loss!
Sunderland 4-0 Wolves.
The result doesnt matter that much does it ? Hope the team spirit holds and surely next season we will start with a new manager and backroom staff !
I still don’t fancy us to hold out long enough for a win. 2-1 to Sunderland.
This is the death of a thousand cuts. I really hope we get relegated as soon as possible, so we can all plan for the future. While not mathematically certain, we all know we are the worse side in the league. TC saying he has enhanced his position has cheered me up though. The whole club from top to bottom is delusional. I really cant wait for this embarrassing season to be over. Hopefully moron has got some ginger bollocks and puts his hand in his pocket and finds them. No more points for wolves. 2-0 sunderland
2-0 to the black cats. Mon’s tactical nouse will prove highly effective. Bendtner and Richardson for them.
Paul Ince wanting to manage wolves! It’s like Frank Spencer wanting to help the Three Stooges!
Yet another loss? I’ll go with 2-1 to the Black Cats.
Against all sense and logic… Sunderland 0 – Wolves 1
seems to have become like watching the eurovision song contest this season..and when someone votes for the uk we all jointly go NO!! it was really funny being bottom of the table with nil points and you ,you silly great sod have just ruined every englishmans /sorry , british mans evening..really !! unfortunately the great wolves situation isnt funny at all but i reckon moxey is treating it like the said song contest ; sitting there every saturday with his colouring book for when the little lad gets bored and pork scratchings and can of pop…morgan when he can bother to show up being his surrogate father…ahhh , what a lovely scenario..bet hes got a little flag to wave madly at half time whilst morgan helps him to stand on his little kiddies chair……so im voting soonderland tres points and voolves nil points xxx
Sunderland 3 Wolves 0
My god this is painful and it is going to be another month full of pain. I am under no illusions that the useless twats running the club will make just one sensible decision this side of the summer.
They may consider hiring a new manager by the beginning of August when they can be arsed. Amd then it is probably going to be Gary Megson.
Good lord I don’t want Gary Megson, Sheffield Wednesday have improved tenfold with his sacking.
We can do better… you’d hope.
Sorry Morph, that plainly aint true. Wednesday have got no better or worse since GM’S departure. Like him or loathe him, facts speak for themselves. He left them in a very good position. We can do better? With who? I’m no Megson lover but I think we have to be realistic. This club is run on the cheap.Players will leave in the close season, maybe 5 or 6 of them. The club needs rebuilding from the bottom up.Which big name is going to come here to manage? Face facts. We are left with the likes of Megson,Lee Clarke,Gus Poyet, etc.Take your pick.
Well at least I’m old enough to remember the ggod and the great times.
What is it? 15 points in the last 30 games i think. And they’re all still doing a good job apparently. It’s all part of Baldrick’s(sorry Moxey’s) long term plan. TC was the right man for the job and is doing it very well too according to, well according to TC.
This all follows on from McCarthy’s refusal to any accept blame for results and his indignant outrage at criticism from the fans, his customers.
They remind me of tinpot regimes around the world. You can deny the truth for only so long. Ultimately it ends in tears.
Which is what we can look forward to again today, more tears and perhaps a 3-0 defeat.
Express & Star Monday 23 May 2011
“that took 20 years off my life” jokes Morgan
Jez Moxey today admitted relegation would have been “a huge blow”.
HELLO….. McFLY (Biff rubbing Mcfly’s head with knuckles)
I’m goin to see mee babies.
I hope the team decide to play their own game, can’t see it.
Sunderland 2-1!!
Some absolute gems of posts today.
I was born under a wanderers star!
sir jack, sir jack..what has happened to our great club…you will always be the man that saved us from extinction but what will bungle and zippy and manager george be remembered for? please forward your answers as i am slowly losing the will to live- cant think what to use the programmes name for as a Rainbow is a symbol of hope whereas these three clowns give me as much hope as getting a free pass for a lifeboat on the Titanic!
Karl henry says that wolves had a psychologist for 3 years and it really helped the players. The psychologist was removed from the club at the beginning of season for no reason. I dont know if to laugh or cry. Any sign of cost cutting by moxey and morgan, or players lookin for reasons why they cant pass the ball 10 yards to a bloke wearing old gold and not takin responsibility for their disgusting attitude this season. Everything that comes out of the club makes us more and more a laughing stock. This smacks of a weak leadership organisation. The nutters are running the nuthouse.
Interesting! Being in the psychology profession I was really left wondering at the start of the season what was going in regarding to the mind set of the players as a whole and individually and the resulting dynamics between team members. Given what has happened to wolves this year and the axing of psychologist it could be argued ‘minds have not mattered’ to those in the club’s heirachy and we have payed the price . Very disappointing.
The karl henry article is the main piece in the Sun footy section and has a picture of terry connor on a psychologists couch. Even the Sun is now takin the piss, while the shit still dribbles out of every orrifice of the club.
3-0 to the black cats
When you look at relegation, careful you must be … for relegation looks back. Sunderland 2-0 Wolves.
After seeing this so called lineup
Hennessey
Foley stears Berra ward
Kites Henry Davis force
Fletch seb
I can easily say that we will lose 4-1 and claim that a point is in the bag.
Its 14:35 Saturday afternoon. This is what I like to refer to as the OPO (the optimum point of optimism). There is, I’m sure, some formula for this that involves the time elasped since the last ball we kicked in anger and kick-off time + 5, when reality kicks in.
Oh goo on then I give in, 2-0 to the mighty Wolves, Doyle and Fletch.
Like the team Thomas. Makes more sense than the one TC has put out. No Zubar, Doyle or Jarvis which is odd after the midweek performance. Foley in midfield in a 442???? Davis and Henry protecting back 4 – not sure who will link up between midfield and Fletcher and SEB.
Great selection TC – You the man 🙂
First clean sheet since last August – time for a celebration.
Manager search on hold until after Cup Final. Moron too busy.
0-0 half time!
What a result…….
That’s not a result that’s half-time. But know what you mean!
0-0 !
Well played the lads!
True, they looked like they’d already knocked-off for the season, but we battled hard. A relief to break the run of defeats, at least.
I meant Sunderland looked like they’d knocked off. Not us ….
Point at last-sounded as if we battled. Pity it’s all too late.
UTW
Didn’t watch for a change, pleasantly surprised at the result.
Shame. This kind of result would have been useful if results at bolton and blackburn had gone our way.
I remember saying to my dad at the start of the season “it’s been the best time to be a wolves fan for a long time.” How much things have changed in one season. So sad.
Bloody hell a clean sheet.
anyone for tennis? where IS the bleedin fast forward button? this season has been worse than trying to stretch my foreskin over my head…..
0-0 was the game called off? clearly terry connor is going to be our new manager..nice! this seems to be a good time to start taking drugs…farewell old gold girl.
A meaningless clean sheet but good I guess to halt the run of losing before we end up with an unbeatable PL record. It would be great to go down with a little dignity by getting off the foot of the table but I’m afraid it’s not going to happen.
End of Season League Places
Wigan 35 (Scrape a point from all their remaining matches bar Arsenal)
QPR 32 (Lose against Spurs, Chelsea & Man C. but take a point off Stoke)
Bolton 32 (3 draws at Spurs, Villa & WBA but go down on goal difference)
B’burn 30 (Draws at Norwich & Wigan bring them two further points)
Wolves 27 (Draw at Wigan but WIN against Everton [farewell performance]
I’m sure many will not agree but cannot work out any realistic combination of results that would see Wolves improving their current footballing status.
Good chance of a cricket score at Molineux next Sunday
I have to agree with Ledbury. Good to halt the run of defeats and nice to keep a clean sheet. The players showed good spirit but it is a useless point.
I was disappointed that TC did not go for it. He is so afraid. What was the point of bringing on Zubar for Foley? We needed a victory and he made a change at right back? I was perplexed. Was it an injury?
We faced a poor side today but we were as poor as them, so I don’t take any positives from the match bar the things I already mentioned.
And that TC in the post match interview claims that we have deserved more from the 4 or 5 games prior to the one today just underlines that he is as deluded as he is incompetent. I saw nothing today that has changed my view that I do not see us win any of the remaining games.
Henry played very well.
0-0 a result.
Goes to show how low we have sunk.
SEB should have scored.
Hope in the summer the whole management structure changes.
I am just thinking about next season now and there is a squad there to work with and some young players who will have more opportunities to break through – appointing the right manager is key – would like to see the back of Johnson and o’hara.
A clean sheet is great news. Davies showed he is not out of place well done. Some great link work between Fletch & Seb.
The biggest shout out has to go to all those who turned up to give the place some atmosphere, let’s face it the home crowd were as quiet as their team. Big shout out to Mark who flew over from New York, and was a real character.
Morgan and Moxey you are far from excused.
I eat humble pie as i said we would not get one more point this season. 2 points from a possible 30 (?) since Connor says it all. At least the clean sheet stopped us extended the worse run in over 100 years for consecetive games without keeping a clean sheet.
Think its time for Moron to come out of the bunker and communicate with the supporters,
about the shambles witnessed by us all.
I would let Jarvis have a move, he’s earned it and deserves to be playing in the prem, as for O’hara and Johnson i would let them know they’ll be championship players next season and promotion will be the only chance they will have of changing that. F them if they don’t like it!
