If you believe this story from the Sky Sports site:

Steven Fletcher is on the brink of becoming a Wolves player for a walloping £7.5 million fee, with Wayne Hennessy and Chris Iwelumo heading out in the opposite direction on loan.
Should this be true, I’d be happy to see the player arrive, as I think the Scotland international is better than what we already have (Doyle aside) and fits nicely into the club’s ethos.
That being said, the fee is a lot more than I would have expected, particularly with two solid players heading to Turf Moor as part of the agreement, albeit on loan.
In the most recent Wolves Blog Poll, 43% of you thought Fletcher was the striker Wolves were most likely to sign, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to everyone if he does sign on the dotted line.
Interestingly, the club denied having an interest in the player a few weeks back, but perhaps that was a ploy to keep other potentially interested parties from sniffing around.
What do we all think?

Happy with this! Best write my letter to the big man as soon as possible before he goes!
Just read the price though…Bit steep.
he’s a proven goalscorer at prem level, they don’t come cheap. Moxey isn’t gonna spend over the odds for anyone, I think this would be an excellent signing. it will shut up all the boo boys who want us to spend £5m+ on someone, it will strengthen our attack, it signals an intention to play 442 and really have a go at this league, it keeps hennesey playing regularly and developing, just yes to the whole thing really. just hope its true!
well done mick, up the wolves
i think he will be a real quality signing, he’s already proven to score goals at this level, he fits in with our ethos, and i think this is a real step in the right direction , at least it shows were willing to spend the money, lets get this deal wrapped up alond with van damme !!!!!
up the wolves
More chance of kissing the Pope
I kissed the pope and I liked it. The taste of his cherry chapstick.
Plenty of school boys have had to kiss a member of the Catholic Chuch’s ‘Cherry Chapstick’, ‘Strawberry mini-milk’ etc.
And they get away scott free!
lmao. classic from stourbridge
Once again I thank you!
Something I would definitely not brag about, especially to those piss takers on this site.
Now kissing Katie Perry…………………again, thats another thing altogether!!!
FOWB
I think that this is a very good signing.
He was top of my list before the end of the season.
Having him enables both 4-4-2 (with Doyle) and 4-5-1 (if Doyle gets injured, or needs to be rested).
I think that Moxey denied that Wolves were interested so that it would not affect the inevitable parallel offers/ negotiations that he would have been having with other clubs for their strikers, which he has to do in case the Fletcher deal does not come off.
I have no doubt that the “£7.5 million” will involve cash, add-ons and also – importantly – the loan fees that relate to Wayne Hennessy and Chris Iwelumo. So the amount of cash coming out of the Chairman’s warchest will be somewaht less.
I agree – the one thing that kept us up last year (other than MM) was Kevin Doyle staying fit. You can’t hope for that forever.
He looked a decent player last season – good movement, comfortable on the ball and seems to be able to find the net at premiership level, so I’m ok with it – and at 23, like a lot of our lads, he’s only going to get better. (He looks more like 40 though).
He’s gonna be bald like Alex Rae
Great signing! Hopefully he’ll get a good start. He’s a typical MM signing. If Jelle signs we got two solid players signed. And Gary Hooper may be the next in line. I miss more creativity, player who can work miracles. Westham are getting rid of some players which might be interesting. I would like to sign up Hunt and Liam Lawrence as well.
From all reports Jelle is a solid boy. Milijas will provide that creativity.
I’ve wanted us to sign Fletcher ever since the rumour came out.
Any player who can score 12 goals for a PL relegated side must be a bit special and should Wolves sign him then he and Doyle should make us a team to be worried about.
Our goalscoring was poor last season as everyone knows but this would put that right!
IF Hennessey and Iwelumo leave, albeit on loan, I think both clubs will have got a good deal although the loans PLUS 7M seems a bit steep, hopefully the overall deal will amount to 7M and that sounds about right to me.
Just to stir the pot a bit, I think we should sign a new center back, on the cheap. We can play Craddock up front, coz he’s a proven Prem goalscorer, and center backs are cheaper than forwards, and my friend Moxey can have more cash for his bonus!!!

Forgot to mention tht it’s clockwork mouse watching time here in Houston.

If this is true, its a very big step in the right direction. Don`t forget prices have moved in the last 12 months, what would we have to pay for Doyle today. For me however the deal is structured £7m for a proven goal scorer in the prem who looked a good player last year is a bargain.
Now for the defence……
Good afternoon Clive in Houston and Scooped in shropshire. I`ll catch up with you renegades later tonight, FOWB
Out tonight mate. Got a hot date with Stephen Ward! Catch you over wkend.
I like the sound of Fletcher. The more slap-heads the better! Like the sound of Lawrence even more so lets hope the Fat Controller can close these deals before his annual monthly July vacation!
You survived the M42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuckin’ A
Get all the slapheads in the team, polish their heads, turn on the floodlights, and blind the opposition with the dazzleness!!!
You could do that on your own, Scooped!!!
Give Ward one up the proverbial from us all.
FOWB
But all that dazzle would count for nothing if you were there with your great gut which is big enough to block out the sun let alone our dazzle assisted floodlights!!!
Great night with Wardy. Wanted your address for some reason. Something to do with Ira (a cousin??) paying you a visit….
But if the floodlights are on, there won’t be any sun to block, you dummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOWB
Its a comparison mate. It goes like this – if your grotesquely obese belly is big enough to block out the sun (in the daytme) what chance would slap-head induced floodlight dazzle (at night time) have? Doh!!! You’ve been in the mecca of dumbing down for too long, its obviously rubbed off!!
Interesting to read what the Burnley fans are saying about the potential deal:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/F17485205?thread=7527563&show=50
All seem gutted he might be leaving, most think £7.5 million isn’t enough and none seem thrilled about getting Iwelumo in any kind of part exchange.
Iwelumo is quality at CCC level.
This signing doesn’t excite me at all.
The bloke had a decent season, but I also saw lots of games where he was totally anonymous. Would prefer someone stronger, quicker and with more skill on the ball.
I play football with a bloke who goes home and away with Burnley and he seems to think £7m is about right – I thought you could buy the whole of this grim town for that amount!
Plus I wouldn’t pay a penny more than £4million. The only good point of the deal is we might get rid of the only goalkeeper I know who is frightened of getting his shirt dirty!
Unfortunately this is the level we are forced to compete at given our wage structure, meanwhile Blues are signing players from Man Utd and Athletico Madrid
Still think Hanhemann is better than Foster. And Zigic isn’t that great a player from what I’ve seen (he was from Valencia not Athletico)
Still better than Maierhoffer though 😉
Totally agree SB, seems like an early panic buy to me
Lets home Zigic ends up being Birmingham’s Hoff!
Foster’s signing could go one way or the other – lets hope he’s crap! Hart was excellent last season and probably earned blues at least 10 points. Without those 10 points, and with an aging squad, maybe those blue-nose f*ckers might not be so smug 2010/2011.
Two players + 7.5 million?
way way way too much in my opinion. But then again I don’t run a football club, who knows we may have money to burn
It’s not 2 players – esp when you consider the potential improvement for WH – it’s loanings.
I don’t see our goals increasing massively with Fletcher and 7 mill is way too much. He may be a willing runner, but too much like Doyle. We need a proper selfish striker to get the tap ins.
Unfortunately that won’t work till we’re an established mid table club. The ball must be within tap in range to be tapped in.
To be fair, i saw plenty of crosses go in the box last season with no one on the end of them.
Point taken Rich, but it is my opinion willing runners will do the job better – which proper selfish striker were you thinking (ie players similar to…) of
Moan moan moan – good player and will do a good job for us, and why is anyone worried about how much he costs? 7 mill is not a lot in this league for a striker,
Give him a chance!
Jed, good to see you commenting again mate. I hope you’ve been reading along in silence and not completely neglecting your duties as a vital cog in the Wolves Blog machine.
I must admit the fee did seem on the high side to me, but the more I think about it, the more I’m inclined to agree. £7 million just seems a lot because Wolves have only ever spent that kind of money once.
I’m still about Thomas! Your blog is set up as an RSS feed on my toolbar, so I read every post. I’ve just got a bit lazy with comments 😉
Good to hear Jed.
My stats tell me there are quite a few regular visitors who read but don’t comment. Want to get as many people involved in the chit-chat as possible.
Your still in the top 6! 🙂
And then there are those who comment but don’t read!!!
You know who you are!!!

I think the price is way ott? Doyle was a regular starter for Ireland and one of if not their best player when we signed him. He’d also scored double the prem goals in a season than Fletcher has. Yet he cost £1mil less?!?!? Fletcher can’t get in a woeful Scotland side! I thought inflation was negligible these days or is football immune? Our lack of goals is due to our negative style of play/ team selection. Where are all the chances for this guy going to come from?
Great player, but 7,5 mil and two players on loan seems like a lot. Still would like to see the deal go through.
So heres my conundrum.
Our keeper, I’ll call him USA coz I forgot how to spell his name, is in the America squad for the world cup.
I am English, living in America.
I don’t want USA to play against England coz a) he’s a fuckin’ good keeper and could cause us problems, and b) I don’t want to see him let in a hatful coz he’s our keeper first, America’s second.
What do I do?
Methinks my best bet is Howard plays the first game, lets in a shedload against England, gets dropped and USA plays a blinder for the rest of the tournement, until America go out, as they surely will, coz they are crap.
That seems like a plan.
All comments will be read in the order they are received.

I like this move if it is made. Fletcher will add quality and should be ready to prove himself and keep Wovles up after just being relegated. I also don’t see a problem with the loans. Hennessey should play every week which is what he needs after losing his place to the American. Also, if we plan on staying in the Premier then I really don’t see Iwelumo having much of a future with our squad, and if we do so happen to get relegated then then we have a young GK and a proven Championship striker coming back to the club for in return for nothing.
KWolf raises a very good point, if we play 4/5/1 to protect our defence, even Ronaldo would have problems scoring from our lack of service.
Sad man I am I watched the highlights dvd of our promotion year on Saturday night – well it was that or Eurvision song contest. Conclusions were, Ward was shite at left back, we really did miss Kightly`s assists in the premiership, Hennessy is a wimp – if only he wasn`t scared of crosses, and a big thanks to Chris Iwelumo whose goals in the first half of the year were sensational. The two he scored at Sheff Utd were top class, glad I was there, and considering MM played Collins and Ward much of the season – how the hell did we go up.
Possibly playing Craddock and Berra did improve our defence in the second half of the championship winning season, and they were just about ok last year. Although they haven`t got the pace to sort out the Blackpool front two. Flecther adds some height which we desparately need. We could not take a corner (or a long throw) without the two central defenders up there last season as our strikers lacked height. For me Fletcher yes, but i`d still want a centre half as Craddock can`t go on for ever, and Stearman who I like has not got the experience, but has the pace.
Still plenty of time…….????
I see Zubar as a possible future replacement. He’s strong, pacey and can jump. He played as a centre half in Marseille. He was, in my view, one of our best players. And Foley would re-enter the first team as a right back. Jelle is an other alternative, besides as an alternative as a left back.
I agree Zubar was one of our best players last season. Why did it take McCarthy so long to make him a regular?
