It takes a pretty sad Wolves fan to remember a 0-0 draw at Bradford City virtually 10 years ago to the day.

Back in August 2002, the vivid memory had nothing to do with an Ivar Ingimarrson debut or a grotty white Doritos shirt, but the buzz in the away end that transcended the dour spectacle…
…Paul Ince had signed!
As statements of intent go, not many have topped Dave Jones’ capture of the Guv’nor, who dragged his battle scarred team kicking and screaming to the Premier League – whether they genuinely believed they could or not.
With three days of the transfer window left and £25 million burning a hole in our pockets, what price a signature to recreate that excitement? To finally replace pragmatism with a crumb of aspiration for once?
However refreshing and laudable the signatures of Boukari and Margrietter may well be, they fail to quench the thirst of a fan still parched by the bitter loss of relegation, the recollection of ‘Novicegate’ and the loss of our three star players thereafter.
With a similarly dull draw against Derby still festering, now has never been a better time to show the rest of the league that we genuinely mean business. That to quote a slogan from one of Ince’s old clubs, we ‘come not to play.’
As I stumbled on the pronunciation of Bakary Soko to a wonderfully attentive new friend I made on holiday, I thought that if my untrained tongue had no chance of describing our latest transfer target, then what chance did my mate have to feign the slightest bit of interest?
As I scrambled to the nearest sports bar with Nick (as big a Leeds fanatic as I am a Wolves nut), he told me of the time Blackburn Rovers poached a bloke called Shearer from the club next to his house.
Not Alan, but Duncan, only this time nearly 20 years to the day.
With ‘Deadly Dunc’ plundering goals with the unerring poise of his namesake, Kenny Dalglish snapped him up for £800,000, more in a reassertion of a footballing ‘pecking order’ than any great desire to play him.
Little old Swindon Town lost their talisman and with it, any chance of competing with Blackburn Rovers which they’d once done so gamely.
With tick following tock on this transfer window, can we stop dreaming the impossible dream for once, throw the lyrics in the dustbin and start penning a new songsheet?
The name Ince again springs to mind, and the chip off Paul’s block called Tom.
‘Nah, we’d never get him,’ said a glum friend in the pub on Sunday night. ‘Why would he want to leave Blackpool and come down to play for us?’
It’s a sign of the times that most people would agree.
But with £25 million banked and a paltry 21,000 home attendance to ponder, now’s the time to issue a statement of intent.

Wise words. Interesting to see what they do with the money.
So big name=big success eh? Why not ask Cardiff City fans….?
Stale’s signings have been brilliant so far and have highlighted the averageness of the squad MM left behind.
I’m happy with the way Stale is rebuilding the team to his specs and I couldn’t give two hoots whether I’ve heard of them or not.
To be fair, I don’t think at any point did Ben suggest he disagreed with how Solbakken is rebuilding the squad.
It’s just a case of supplementing his foreign imports with players who we know can do it in this league and at the same time showing our rivals we mean business.
I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of using our financial muscle to prize assets away from rivals.
Ince is a great shout from Blackpool and definitely the type of player we need at the moment.
Or what about his team mate Matt Phillips?
Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield is another obvious one, particularly if there’s even the slightest chance Doyle could leave.
While I’m glad to see the club shopping from a wider pool of talent, a few domestic transfers, players already settled and proven in this league would certainly be welcome.
WEll I’m with most fans on this one – how are we to prise Ince away from Blackpool when;
1) We’re in the same league and WOlves are potential promotion runners – Blackpool will not want to sell to a rival club
2) As far as I can tell Ince will not want to leave Wolves, unlike Fletch, Jarvis and Kightly
3) I don’t think Blackpool are in any financial pressure to sell
4) to have any chance of landing him we will need to spend WAY over the odds, and Moxey/Morgan will not do that – no way!
As far as transfer activity goes I’m happy with what we’ve done so far, especially if Sako comes – Stale has moved fast to replace our best outgoing players as well as (hopefully) shoring up the defence with Georg. We could get Ince if we are promoted and Blackpool aren’t but Blackpool will make at least the play-offs…
I can see Rhodes being a more realistic option though even though conditions are similar – he wouldn’t be as expensive as Ince – but I think our midfield/defence needs more urgent attention…
In my Daily Mail today it says that Savic, Man City centre half, did not come to us on loan this season, because we would not pay his wages.
It says it all really, prudence before footballing success.
I have faith Ståle will get us realigned so to speak, but more in spite of moxey, than because of him.
Three and a half days till the window closes.
I doubt, (hope I’m wrong), £10m will be spent by us.
Great finances at the cost of footballing ambition.
Depends what kind of wages they were – if it was something ridiculous like £100 000 a week then of course we wouldn’t have gone for him…
and I know this is a point we’ll never agree on but not spending big doesn’t neccesarily mean the players brought in won’t be good enough – Stale has made 6 signing already, that’s over half a team!
To have reached the point where the season long loan was agreed, they must have had some idea re wages. The implication is we pay too little and indeed the likes of Ince are probably earning as much at Blackpool as he would at Wolves. I may be wrong but wasn’t there a rumour Ince was offered to us, when we were in the Premiership, but we turned him down? Perhaps, one of the reasons Fletch and Jarvis got such good transfer fees was acceptable ‘wages’ were much lower than say Adebayor’s or even Savic’s. What Sunderland and West Ham paid looks a lot less when the ‘wage bill’ is taken into consideration. It is in the hands of Ståle to bring in the best, relative to our wage structure.
I can see where you’re coming from with that…
Big names = Big time Charlie’s, the tale of Roger Johnson should teach us that we should not sign people on reputation and appearances on MOTD
Whilst we are in a better financial and playing squad position than to need to go back to the “young and hungry” days of 2006, we do not need ego’s and massive wages.
On a slightly different note I only ever felt Ince performed when we were on the telly, undoubtedly a talented player and a strong leader but we have seen last season that two or three stars (Hennessey, Jarvis, Fletcher) does not help you progress. We need a team of 8 out of 10s not two or three 10 out of 10s.
If Moxey doesn’t have the ambition and the humour to put in a cheeky bid for Wayne Rooney, then it time to give up and retire to the golf course
Spot on here, Ben. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got your wish (or close to it) by the end of the week… We certainly need another midfielder.
I think some Wolves fans need to get real. They are embarrassing sometimes. We are now a Championship club. Why on earth Would would of the hottest talents in the game want to come to us. There are plenty of Premiership clubs who will pay double the wages we could pay and would do so quite happily.
This is my point Andy! Is it really that unreal to aspire for a ‘marquee’ signing when we have:
1. £25m banked (and well done to Jez Moxey for getting this amount – fair play)
2. Virtually all players on 50 per cent pay cuts from last season
3. Two lots of parachute payments to come
4. Bigger crowds / bigger club and better facilities than a club like Blackpool
5 Re Ince: A father that has nothing but admiration for the club, branding our fans as the best he’s ever played for.
The question should be: Why on earth would he not want to come. And if I am being ’embarassing’ then you’re making a far more succinct commentary on the state of our club than I ever could!
Sorry, the embarrassing term was inappropriate.
But, firstly we haven’t got £25 to spend at least half of that will have already been eaten up by ayers signed and wages. Remember when a player signs a 4 yr contract not only does the fee count but also 4 years of wages, so on what we have bought already, at least half of that will have gone already.
In relation to INCE, he is a talent, and IF Blackpool wanted to sell, which they don’t, then the Tottenhams, Evertons, newcastles of this world will come sniffing, he is that good. So Where would you go ???????
I think SS is doing the right thing at the moment. Time will tell, but I take on board the other point in your post, I would like to see him sign someone……a leader, on and off the pitch who has been there, done it, got the t shirt….. Even if that leader is 33/34 trs old.
Ben, I wish you are right, but I’m afraid I can’t see it. Having been relegated we’re not in a great position to sign Prem standard players, although it would be nice to get a second string player or two from big clubs on loan, and that’s a cheap enough option too I’d imagine.
I’ll echo others by saying that the best players in the division are from our rivals and the MMs won’t over-pay. When have they ever done that (except maybe for Johnson who proved to be money badly spent).
I think the best statement of intent for me will come when the transfer window has closed and the team can settle down and play football the Norwegian way without the disruption & uncertainty of it all.
Hi Andy. I take on board the wages factor, but doesn’t the hole left in wages of Kites, Fletcher, Jarvis, Guedioura, more than account for incomings, thus preserving much of the huge fees we’ve accrued.
Here’s a hypothetical one to encompass this blog theme: Robbie Keane for the last window, paying his wages for 2months to the sum of around 500k, or the signing of Eggert Jonnson?!
As I say, pragmatism replaces any hint of aspiration and we’re left with a useless SPL player who has cost us far more than a Keane loan, who could have galvanized us. Infact, Eggert continues to cost us every month when his wages are paid!
Totally agreed Ben, over recent years just how many economy players have we bought, who have had absolutely zero positive impact/contribution, but keep on taking every month. Its like buying food you dont like cos its cheap. Its why we still had so many players SS had to have a clear out. We got some “one for the futures” on the books that I had forgotten about. Keane for two months might well have saved us, I know he would have played his heart out for us.
Dont get me started but its the bloody guy Jez again.
Same with the academy, come on boys stand up and be counted, if they are going to be good enough I want to see them knocking on the door at 18/19
I don’t think it’s the academy boys’ fault that they don’t get opportunities, though. I think we have a chronic inability to bring young players through and I actually touched on this a few months back in a guest blog I wrote.
I am so sick and tired of people being brought in as “ones for the future” to immediately be farmed out on loan “to get first team experience” and then they are inevitably sold 12 to 24 months later. The same things happen with the academy boys – they are sent out on loan “to gain first team experience” at about 19 then a year or two later we sell them. Maybe they’re just not good enough, or maybe we just haven’y got the stones to take a chance and blood them.
We’re talking about sending Danny Batth out on loan AGAIN when we need a good central defender yet we still plough on with Stearman and Berra (who doesn’t even want to be here). Why not just give Batth a chance? He can’t do any worse than the lost who got us relegated last season and can’t keep a clean sheet – he was with Sheffield Wednesday when they got promoted for goodness sake!! Isn’t that enough of a triumph to deserve at least a fair crack at it when he arrived back at Wolves?!!
Look around the Premiership and you will see a lot of players who have come through Wolves and been offloaded without ever really being given a chance. It’s so, so frustrating. Yet we’re supposed to have one of the best academies in the known universe or something? Maybe so, but there needs to be some sort of new structure put in place between the academy and first so that we are the ones who benefit from the players which we have nurtured. I hope that this new U21s league will be a starting point through which we can do this.
A good topical article.
Find myslef agreeing most comments. To soon to judge SS signings but I have no reason not to trust him. Good to see him casting the net wider than Ireland and Scotland. Yes I would like to see him bring in some recognized names with some experience and some legs left. Every team needs a Talisman type player not neccesarily a Captain type but someone the fans worship. Example Doog with Bailey as Capt. We dodnt need many but a bit of experience who still wants to play and has legs is needed to help this team. But like who????
experienced player ? How about JAMIE CARRAGHER from liverpool ?????
I thing his legs have gone looked very slow last season
Ade, you say about football being played the Norwegian way but on Saturday they were still playing the McCarthy way. So it’s going to take a long time.
I’ve got every faith in Stale but of his signings against Derby only Doumbia played well. I thought Peszko looked isolated and Sigurdarson didn’t appear at all. I only hope the new signings eventually fit in as all our best talent has either already gone or (like Milijas and Hamill) is not deemed worthy of the bench.
To be honest I’m not bothered about a marquee signing as players like this winger from Rennes could have quite a surprise element in the championship. We can but hope!
experienced player ?? what about JAMIE CARRAGHER from liverpool ! top man !
Interesting article and posts. Like most Wolves fans (I think), I am enjoying how SS is rebuilding the team and intrigued to see what style of football we will become renowned for. There seems to be a pattern in his purchases: pace, strength and not yet reached their peak. They are unknown names and have to prove their worth in a foreign league and some will and some wont. I admire we are not just purchasing household names because we have the cash and the fact SS seems to be recruiting in the right areas (still need more quality in defense).
I don’t think we necessarily have to break the bank for a player proven in the championship but I would like us to purchase a player who we believe will be a great leader (like Paul Ince was) to connect the current and new recruits. Plus show our intent in the style of football we will be renowned for.
My suggestions:
1) Scholes (we never expected Ince so why not ,United have purchased new midfielders)
2) Kranjcar just moved to Dynmo Kiev – would question if he would be a great leader but someone like him in midfield being one of the main men I think would bring out the best in him.
3) Huddlestone – now experienced and would make a potential captain.
4) Kieran Richardson from Sunderland – reaching maturity and could help lead the next generation of wolves recruits. Looking for exit from Sunderland and a bigger role may suit him
does anyone know if the cardiff game is on tv anywhere ???
It is rumoured that Spearing is moving away from Liverpool, and Wolves are among the clubs interested. We need more depth in that position, so it would be a great buy. I’ve read Boukari also can play in a central forward position, which would be an interesting option if we bought in another wing.
Doyle could be sold before the transfer window shuts. It would leave us little time replacing him, and we know he can do the business for us in the championship. If he leaves, Sigurdarson and Nouble would gain experience, but the question is if they could deliver the goods.
I would pack Doyle off before his feet could touch the floor IF we could sign Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield. He’s scored goals galore for them and looks like the type of player that will carry on doing so as he continues to step up.
I haven’t seen Rhodes in action, apart from some clips on youtube, from lower divisions, so I’m not exactly qualified to comment on Rhodes. Generally I would rather spend money on players from european top clubs like Solbakken has done with Margreitter and Boukari.
Pezsko has already 2 assists which is very satisfying after only 2 starts. Remember Jarvis had only 4 assists last season :=O. And Doumbia has been very impressing. 8 millions for Rhodes is a lot of money.
what we need is 2 backs left and right a holding midfielder a forward proven goalscorer only then we will be up there at the end of the season but i think stale knows best come on wolves
Rather than a marquee signing, I would much rather us bring in 4 or 5 good quality players. Preferably at least 2 or 3 of whom are familiar with the English game, if not the championship. I like the way that SS has broadened our transfer horizons so much from the days of MM but I think the Championship is a dangerous league to be throwing a whole new team together that resemble the united nations! On a side note, anybody seen the quotes from O’Hara today on the news that he’s out for at least ANOTHER 2 months? Very first line reads ‘Sorry to disappoint the fans….’ He then goes on to talk about how he’s got a lot of his career left ahead of him to think about before he finishes by thanking the fans for their support. Sounds very much like a bloke taking the piss to me! Loads of us said at the time he got that stick off some fans last season that he won’t play for us again and I reckon that’ll be the case.
O ‘Hara played well when he came on loan, scored against the shit, but really did fuck all else.
After we signed him, that was it, never got a good game out of him.
Like Fletcher, a journeyman footballer, only in it for the money and bollocks to the fans.
He needs to be discarded ASAP.
To the post above who suggested Elokobi to have the left back spot….you’re havin’ a laff. He is actually worse than Ward, so that shows how crap he is. Built like a brick shithouse he may be, but he’s about as mobile as one, too.
I think a lot of y’all are missing a point as well. I often tell my American friends the old expression ” There are English people, and the rest are foreigners”
There is Wolverhampton Wanderers, and there are other teams!!
Of course anyone in their right mind wants to play for us, the fact that we don’t get them proves how many idiots there are playing football!!!
FOWB
He haven’t the amount of attacking fibers in his body to play as a wing back, as Solbakken wants the side defenders to play. Defensively he’s solid enough.
Clive & Carl right on about O’Hara. Played foor his contract then went awol apart from spraying the ball around and running into trouble. Ol Arry knew what he was doing when he shipped him out to us. He aslo looks like a shifty spiv, according to my wife and she is a great judge of men!
COMPLETELY disagree with regards to O’Hara’s attitude – the reason he was so poor last season was because he was playing through injury – idiotic in itself I know but if he was only in it for the money he wouldn’t have even thought of doing that! I’m guessing you don’t follow his twitter acount either ‘cos he’s extremely complementary to fans who are supporting him through his injury and considering he was mobbed by a bunch of idiots last season whilst with his wife and kid I’d say there’s enough evidence to show he cares.
Let’s see how O’Hara plays when he comes back from injury
What we need is players with quality, nerve and skill, sod the he can do a job types, we have loads of useless tat like that already, and we cant get rid of them. But we must, cut them free if they SS doesnt want them.
For me, I’d like Rhodes too (I would have either or both of Philips and Ince too if we could get them, but I suspect we have no chance at all), plus a creative midfielder and a full back, maybe another centre half.
I would prefer the young and hungry kind, but with some experience, the young lad from Man Utd we have been linked with would perhaps be a good buy. Not sure of any others that spring to mind tho.
Any ideas ?
Regards
Andrew.
Rhodes for me, would be the signing that this blog is alluding to. A statement of intent! I’m sure they value him far too highly at something like £8m and it won’t happen.
I just think we all need our spirits lifted a bit and moreover, there is scope to lift them in the enviable position we find ourselves in financially!
Why not try and get Ince (presuming we’d even want him in the first place!). If we are serious about getting back up, then the mindset of ‘nah, he wouldn’t want to come’ would have no place in Steve Morgan’s head.
Why not get a big name talent to supplement Peszko and co? Am I being too greedy?!
to clive how many players are not in it for the money pay peanuts get monkeys.not just ohara what did any wolves player do last season .nothing fletcher.doyle two top goalscorers yer right .jarvis not bad.who else ourabout defence laughable.midfield did we have one.we need quality stale knows best dont you stale
Just to remind everyone about paul ince. He accused the wolves board of racism because they gave the managers job to mad mick instead of him. This accusation hurt the board, and although i think the board is useless, i do not think they are racist. There is no way tom ince would be approach by wolves. Not a chance.
Keep the faith and believe, not in “you know who” but in Ståle. He does have a vision, I just hope he has the strength and stamina to get his way or at least as close to it as he can get. After the dismal end to the previous managerial regime I for one am more than happy to give Ståle my full and unequivocal support.
We must look to the future not harp on and on about the sad times. As a group we will never agree on why or indeed how it was allowed to happen and who was really to blame for our catastrophic collapse, but we are where we are and a dog eat dog world we are certainly in.
Can we not mention certain personnel so as to give the impression that they are no longer around ?
Make no mistake mind if this regime is allowed to be frustrated and eventually unable to achieve its aims because of certain internal issues, then I will be with you boys who have always voiced your disapproval in far more colourful graphic language than I would.
As ever UTW !!!!
Are you Mr Morgan ? or Mr Moxey ???
Nice one Nige !!! but just to clear up any possible misunderstanding, I am neither. Like you I am concerned about our lack of progress on the transfer front, especially as there is a ” war chest ” to be spent. Who coined this phrase, Mick, Bob or was it “we know who ??? ”
I know we have different perspectives on certain internal club issues but I am deeply concerned with the image which emanates from the heirarchy within the club though I am unsure as to who is responsible for what appears to be a lack of enthusiasm for spending a shed load of money inc parachute cash as a sign of intention for our rivals.
Ben, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head a couple of posts ago. If Morgan were really serious about getting us back up then splashing out £6-£8m on a really good quality player or two would be more than realistic, especially having raped us for £25m+ lately. However, Morgan and the fat greasy prick have been running our football club in such a way over the last couple of years to have sufficiently lowered our expectations to the level so that even a player like Thomas Ince makes us all go ‘Nah he’d never want to come to us’. Morgan is more interested in getting those new houses built over Compton Park. Once these are sold and the building work on the ground is completed I have little doubt you will see him sell us on for several million times more than the £10 for which he purchased us. What division we’re in won’t matter too much to him. He’s more interested in how Liverpool are doing on the pitch than us. C**t. And in the fat greasy prick he’s got the ideal accomplice to his heinous crime. W****r. I hope Sir Jack is around for a long time to come yet because if he’s not, at some point soon he’ll turn in his grave.
Well Said Carl..
I couldn’t have put it better myself..
Neither he or Moxey have any connection with Wolverhampton,
They are just business people running a business, in it to make money.
The Football comes a long way second.
Just wish more people would wake up and smell the coffee..
Stoke have gone from strength to strength since Moxey left..
As for a marquee signing.. forget it we all now that is not gonna happen.
Nothing will change while Moxey is at this club, and we will always make do with not playing at the top table.
Yes Sir agreed.
Agreed Nige. And please don’t get my negative views mixed up with being anti Solbakken which I’m not. I would hazard a guess he’s been led up the garden path by this pair of crooks as well with their promises of grandeur. From their point of view he’s a dream appointment. Relatively cheap I’ve no doubt, certainly compared to the level of British manager that the fans were demanding. Nobody had heard of him so nobody could really criticise him. If he turns out to be a raging success then brilliant work by the fat controller but if he doesn’t then they’ve got a great scapegoat. I really hope that it turns out be the former and I quite like the look of the new signings but I have my doubts about a foreign manager and a large influx of foreign signings into the championship. Time will tell!
I agree.
I hope he does turn it around and does well.
But it would be inspite of Moxey not because of.
Gut feeling tells me though he will only be allowed to go so far, before Money comes before football again.
It seems very clear to me, and the fact that neither one has made a positive footballing statement proves it fer sure. What owner or CEO wouldnt want to rise to the challenge and give the faithful fans a rallying call and hope for the future.
Well theres two of em.
One correction. His name is greasel.
Agreed to most of the above. The way poxey and Morgan will fatten their collective war chests is by wolves succeeding …. Why don’t they realize that .bringing in quality names ,along with the young and hungry raises the profile of the club. You reap what you sow. If we could all get on the same page.
Great example of stoke. I know they lured one or two bigger names , then it didn’t seem such a bad to others. I realize we are in the championship now but is trying to buy the best in it such a bad idea???
Meant to say it didn’t seem such a bad idea to other big players to come:)
Two points about the above blog comments.
1. Am I wrong, or did Morgan appoint SS without any interference or knowledge from greasel?
2. Do they not know that the old adage is very true: If you build it, they will come.
If you build a succesful winning team, they, being us faithful, will come…..in fuckin’ droves!!! Thus, more money in yer pockets, you dumbfucks, and happy, clappy customers as well!! Not fuckin’ brain rocketry, is it, greasel and bob?
FOWB
You think they DON’T want a winning team in Wolves? 😛
The winning or losing is irrelevant to those clowns.
It is nothing but a business, and as long as they show profit, they are happy.
They know that there is always going to be be a hardcore base of fans who will attend, no matter what happens on the pitch. As long as they keep them coming through the turnstiles, and milking them for as much as they can, they don’t really give a shit. If the company is in the black, bob can sell it as a going concern whenever he wants…..which will be about the time there is no more company real estate to build on.
They are and never have been interested in the football, its all about those magical pound signs.
FOWB
3 days left. Come on morgan/moxey, do something that will put hope into many wolves fans. After a year of disgraceful attitudes and performances we, the fans are still here. Please reward us with a couple of decent signings.
Why all this talk of a striker when we’ve got a fat little black lad who’s going to score us 25+ this season?
Have we signed somebody “under the radar” or are you hoping fatty Blake will be as good as he was 3/4 years ago?
Keep dreaming!
A new midfield of Peszko, Sako, Doumbia and Boukari.
Four strikers to choose from in doyle. blake. siggurson. nouble.
Johnson and margrita in central defense.
Two attacking wing backs in ward and zubar.
Sundays game against cardiff will be interesting in ss squad and formation.
Any one else coming in?
Henry I feel will still be included in some way – he is the captain after all! I’ve heard suggestions that Sako could play the role Stale had Kightly playing before he buggered off to Stoke in a 4-4-1-1 formation. Still, this midfield – if Stale has chosen his signings right – will be brilliant!
With so many games per season as in the championship+cups, it will be a major advantage to have the possibility to rotate without weakening. With the signing of Sako, will Wolves sign Spearing? I read that Spearing can cover more than one position, is he also a winger?
Boukari can also play as a centre forward
Seen we`ve just signed Sako, he`s the one the manager really did want it seems.
I agree with the idea of a marquee signing, someone who van be vocal and provide leadership on the pitch, although it seems that who ever that may be will have to speak French, and possibly a few other languages !!
It seems the board are playing ball, but where is the left back to provide the pace and mobility which is arriving everywhere else, and who is going to be the skipper, someone else yet to come in?
Exciting times perhaps??
Sako!! There’s yer statement of intent, Ben. A cultured, left footed continental midfielder!! A household name in his own household! I haven’t been so excited since – um – when Nenad signed …
I’m sick to death of the trolls who have taken over this Blog. Their relentless negativity about anything and everything Wolves is totally depressing . God ,what sad and miserable lives you must lead.
I reckon I’m speaking for quite a few people on here in saying I’m actually quite positive about what’s going on on the pitch and quite like the new and refreshing approach that the new gaffa has introduced. However, the negativity is aimed at the way that the club is being managed at board level and it is this management that will ultimately govern the longer term success/failure of our club. We don’t go to the golden palace and boo the lads on a matchday, we get behind them 100%, it’s thanks to this blog that we can have our say about the shite that we believe is going on behind the scenes. It’s all about opinions.
Not sure if I am classified as one of the trolls referred to here but for sure I have voiced some negatives regarding the way the club has recently been run and the lack of anyhting to suggest this has fundamentally changed.
I am not goingt to dwell on history but our lack of consolidation in the prem. and the debacle and string of poor management last year would suggest we might have a point.
Just to clarify not one comment I make on this site detracts in the slightest from my life long love of the club and enthusiastic support. Absolutley I haave never ever booed the team, even when I felt they deserved it. I would never do that, if the guys in Gold out their playing for us he gets 100% support. Does that stop me saying afterwards that he had a nightmare, no of course not.
Like carl I am quietly pleased with the new manager and rebuilding and am hoping that this time we have got it right. I think we might have a good guy.
I am less convinced Jez has learned his lesson or changed much but hope I am wrong.
I can not sit back like we all have in the past and just view eveything they have done as wonderful. Because we all know they have made some bad calls that many people did not understand at the time.
Its a bit like family, I could bully my sister, and fight my brother but just let anyone else pick on them and see what happened.
I have a bro in law you is a die hard Villa supporter and a late friend who supported Tescos, even in our darkets days would I utter a negative word to them about us. Even when we couldnt pay the Co-Op milkman
We are all great fans on this wonderful blog, and all have our opinions, lets all kiss and make up and all support the teams efforts.
But I would just like to hear SM or JM come out with some positive ambitous statement of intent. I just feel Jez aims low and still misses.
Totally agree Uqb. There’s still rumblings of discontent even with a new manager and 6 new signings. I’m sure some people refuse to see what positives there are so as to focus on the same old gripes which are history. By all means think it but don’t keep putting into print.
As ever UTW !!!!
Super Troll here.
Has it not sunk in, UQB, that it is BECAUSE we are diehard fans that we feel so strongly about our club and the way its run.
If we were your prawn sandwich Utd fan types, we wouldnt give a shit, and just move on to the next passing fashion.
There is a reason we scream “Come on me Babbeez”, its our family.
It’s 7 new players now and people are still having a snipe tut, tut. No matter what we think as supporters about internal matters, I have never heard a serving or departing or arriving player express the sort of criticism read on this blog regarding the money side of football, and don’t forget some of these newcomers have upped sticks and gone to a new country with cultural and linguistic challenges. Could you do that ??
Let’s try not to infect their obvious delight and enthusiasm for new opportunities with dead news. Their first impressions of their new environment will be crucial to our clubs development over the next 1-2 seasons. Don’t spoil it for them and us !!
As ever UTW !!!!
Arriving players won’t have a swipe because they’ve only just been sold all of greasel’s spin, serving players don’t dare because they’ll be dropped/fined, and departing players and managers usually have a clause in their contract when they get paid off that prevents them from making negative comments about the club. I’m sure if you had a really open and honest conversation with Fletcher about his opinion of the Wolves hierarchy it’d be interesting! And as for the question of could I up sticks and work in a new country with cultural and linguistic challenges? For £10K-£25K a week – hell yeah!
Added to which players and agents are not dumb enough to bite the hand that feeds them. There is a very strong unwritten code of not bad mouthing a club or Management. You never know where they will turn up next or what might happen. No need to burn bridges.
Credit where its due Mox does seem to have a good reputation for hand shake deals with players, resigning and being allowed to go if we dont achieve.
Thats about as far as I will go about the guy.
Good point Carl and NY Wolf. I suppose I’d move for £25K a week and keep my gob shut about what’s happening, and I’m not quite sure about JM. In some ways he’s earning his crust but why am I not totally convinced of his motives ??
As ever UTW !!!!
I also am not sure how trollish I’ve been on the blog but im sure We all love and care about the club…. That’s a given in my book. Even when I don’t totally agree with all posts I still enjoy reading them. We all have our opinions on the footballing side of things. But the business side is the most contentious . This blog gives fans the opportunity to have that debate online that we would have anyway on sat night in the pub ,and for that I am forever grateful to Thomas and Ben along with all others involved….. Especially bloggers! I’m more excited about the new manager and signings than I have been years . It’s a change of direction we needed. Pity it didn’t happen this time last year or even a bit before that…. We are and always will be WOLVES!!!
another french signing today , if we keep this up expect to see gold and black berets in the club shop and a string of onions around every programme sellers neck!!!
we’re outgunning the gunners 🙂
i hear trezeguet has been mentioned????
I’ve just been reading that rumour in a few places. He would certainly fulfil Ben’s wish of a statement of intent! Highly highly highly unlikely but I wouldn’t write this one off altogether because: A. He would appease the fans if we sell Doyle and B. Although he would cost astronomic wages, he would bring Greasel shit loads in merchandising, extra ticket sales, media interest, etc!
Please obey the rules, greasel is spelled with a lower case g!
Sincerest apologies.
If we sign another two players who look the business i want to form the greasel appreciation society with Clive as our honorary chairman for coming up with the name and Ben and Thomas as Vice Presidents. I wonder if he ever gets called greasel by any players. If he doesnt, do we have a plan.
Hey guys on a lighter and perhaps more positive note, I have just seen a picture of Sato in the daily Mail sitre, holding up his Wolves shirt. Not sure if its at the Mol or Training ground but in the background on the walls is what appears to be a repetitive mantra about possession of the football. I am assuming it is new and something SS is brainwashing the players with. That is good, now all we need is for them to read and take note.
Maybe it should be in French and German as well.
Good point, not forgetting irish.
I have not given up on a marquee signing or even two just yet. I have a gut feeling, its all so quiet in terms of statements or comments.
Drogba was seen in London yesterday……………..
Any sign of anelka with him:))
Just looking at earlier thread. I’m not sure of how trollish I’ve been but I recognize that there is a common bond and love of wwfc between all bloggers.we all have footballing opinions but the business side is the most contentious . This blog let’s us have the debate that we would anyway in the pub sat night, but with more people . So grateful to Thomas and Ben plus everyone else involved, including ALL bloggers! Ss plus the new signings are really exciting . It’s a direction the club needed…. Pity it didn’t happen this time last year , or even a few months before that. We are and always will be WOLVES!!
Looks like I’m repeating with similar comments. IPhone told me first comment not published . Had to rewrite . Sorry.
