An unfathomable cheap signing, a decline on a player’s wage and the sale of a World Cup midfielder before he’s had the chance to speak to his new manager…

…Just when we thought it was safe to go back in the water.
Unconditionally accepting a West Ham reject who Stale Solbakken has not yet uttered a word about is one thing.
Refusing to back Stale Solbakken on his number one defensive target Vadim Demidov is another.
But to flog the only midfielder on our books capable of a player-of-the-season accolade – and two goal of the season awards for separate clubs – in the space of a dozen games?
And all that before Stale Solbakken has even had the chance to say hello to him – let alone see him on a DVD.
If the Norwegian’s temper tantrum with Pep Guardiola is anything to go by, you’d imagine he might be a bit peeved off right now.
With our local newspaper’s steadfast refusal to engage in the profession of journalism, it is left to us fans to speculate about the real motives that fester behind the corridors of Waterloo Road.
Jez and Steve vowed we’d never make the mistakes of 2010/11 in 2011/12.
Jez and Steve then promised to learn their lessons from 2011/12 in 2012/13 (with a director of football in place) and now they’re frantically undermining their new manager before he’s had the chance to go all progressive on us.
Selling Adlene Guedioura, without the Algerian ever getting the chance to impress his new manager proves one of two things.
- Our Continental, highly respected, multiple trophy winning manager is in fact fickle and doesn’t value his own opinion
- Our chief executive is again working towards a bonus with another asset stripping exercise
In the absence of any in-depth knowledge on the former and a whole heap of miserable experience with the latter, I know which one I’ll opt for.
Despite all the evidence pointing to the opposite, Adlene Guedioura might turn out to be a failure at Forest.
Frank Nouble could come in and bang in 15 goals in a 2012 ode to Big Chris.
And the lad from Sociedad could have turned out to be Norway’s answer to Serge Romano.
In a notion seemingly exclusive for the one Black Country club bereft of any footballing knowledge, it actually doesn’t matter.
Because if a logical footballing proposition came and slapped Jez Moxey around his numerous flabby chins, he wouldn’t have the first idea what it would look like.

Absolutely pissed off with this one. MM never really gave this guy a chance and I was really hoping that Stale would see what he was capable of and with correct managing he could have become a great player for Wolves.
We are always going to be getting crap like this while the Poxey Moxey is around
Norsk Wolf why do you rate him so high ? , because he shoots from 35 yards and scored 2 goals in a thousand attempts ?
If you think He’s the answer you dont know centre midfield , I bet you think Elokobi is the best left back going too !
Good for you Wanderer Will. On his day Gued was brilliant. His debut against Spurs was a case in point. But all too often he flattered to deceieve. he lost the ball too often and was rightly substituted at haldf time in one home game when he passed more to the oppositon than his team mates.
I am far from convinced he will achieve the consistency we need to get us out of the diviosion form Hell.
ah! 2 more persons who share the same view as I do. did. The fact is he isn’t deemed good enough, and he’s gone. Sorry Ben, we will never know! Moving on….
What an utter pile of steaming excrement. Gued isn’t Messi. He is a fringe player who probably wanted to leave. Two goal of the season awards. Big deal. He scored ONE goal for Forest which was the great strike that proves that every so often even a blind pig finds an acorn. Row Z is a lot bloody safer today.
Demidov chose Eintracht Frankfurt. Bundesliga Eintracht Frankfurt, and such a small club they have played in a European Cup Final and have a 51,000 capacity stadium.
They didn’t promise a DOF. They promised to look at it. They looked and decided it was a crap idea.
Of course it asset stripping by Moxey. Good God.
Listen to yourself and stop implying that you speak on behalf of the Wolves support with this unfathomable nonsense. You are right to slag the E&S, and yet you manage to engage in the same negative rubbish without fact and foundation. Perhaps you should apply for Tim Nash’s job?
I certainly don’t speak on behalf of the Wolves support. Crazy concept for a blog, but I actually speak on behalf of ME and nobody else. This is my opinion, so don’t imply I’m trying to brainwash.
Oh, and a clue in the title. One publication is a regional newspaper, in place to be the ‘eyes and ears of the public.’
The other is an unoffical blog, which by definition, is all about opinion.
If you struggle to grasp this concept , then there’s no wonder you unconditionally back the sale of a player who never got the chance to impress the new manager. Or the last one.
Is selling a midfielder sent out on loan as he was 17th choice asset stripping? you say the club is “bereft of any footballing knowledge” yet you don’t list any footballing reasons why you are so worked up about losing a “world cup player” who made 3 sub appearances during that world cup and played right back for them during the warm ups as he is so highly thought of.
Mick McCarthy would have seen plenty of Adlene though, and for some reason or another he decided he was not good enough, and to be honest I’m not horribly bothered about losing him ‘cos I personally don’t rate him…but that’s just me!
A decent player leaves to make room for a better one. 1 mill transfered to Mr.Steels transferbudget. Not bad.
And McDickwadhead was good enough that he got sacked.
Says a lot about his choice of player.
Yeah, sacked in the Premier League. He took over when we were favourites to be relegated from the Championship. He did shit didn’t he?
I lost track with this little section when Louie said we were favourites for relegation when Mick took over.
We were, in fact, between 7-10th favourites to win the league depending on your choice of bookies.
So in reality we finished a few places above where we were expected.
I thought it was old people who struggled with their memory?
Well, the bookies may have had us as 7-10th favourites to go down but given that we had only something like 7 experienced 1st team players when McCarthy arrived I think most of the fans had us as hot favourites for one of the 3 slots.
You didn’t even read what I wrote did you?
My apologies for the typo.
I was 11. So forgive me for that if I’m wrong.
However, people like you and Clive ignore the point when you go on like Mick never did anything good. He left us in a far better position than when he began, and gave us some happy memories that should not be forgotten. He wasn’t good enough for the Prem, we know that. Some people just need someone to moan about I guess, you’ll be on Stale’s back soon enough
How the hell can you realisticly be 7th-10th faves to win a league when you have 12 pro players on your books hahaha !
Mick done what he was hired to do , built a whole side n squad to get promoted in 3 years , kept us up for two seasons and lets face FACTS Wolves never got relegated under Mick and you cant say otherwise haha
All in all Mick was a major success for me , signed a few awful players but what manager doesn’t , a lot of games last season we could have got more than we did , Villa was a major turning point for me when Henry got sent off and Frimpong got his serious injury, if we could have kept those two and danny davis all season I think we would have survived but its all ifs buts n maybes , Mick turned this club around and I’ll always be thankfull for his time , very funny bloke in person too haha !
Hallo Louie.
Today is Tuesday.
I now expect the usual arguement from you telling me it isnt.
It’s Thursday where I am…. 😉
Bloody hell truth hurts hey! Gued had no intention of coming back, look at the facts facing you! and if you think he is better than any of the other midfielders then you really are living in cuckoo land, I have never liked him, yes he had a go, yes he would have a shot, but like one of the guy’s answered – 2 goals in ???????? does not make him Messi, and saying the manager is fickle is disgusting when he hasn’t been here a month yet, god help him when he has been here 6 months if we are not top of the league and tearing teams apart, some of you lot will smash him.
Ben,Guedioura wanted to leave. He wanted to go to Forest. He made that very clear at the end of last season . He didn’t want to stay to try and impress Stale because he wanted to leave and join Forest.
If you really think I’m calling Stale fickle then I give up. Not letting him assess a player before selling him is my fundamental problem – despite the club promising he would be able to do so. It’s the sale of a player (irrespective of whether you rate him or not) without him ever being able to impress his new manager which angers me.
PS: ‘Gued had no intention of coming back.’ A fact based on what exactly?
And if you think Milijas and Eggert Jonnson are better than him, then I rest my case.
Gued apparently tweeted “Wolves is my past and Forest is my future” when he was at Forest. I’m pretty sure he wanted to leave and I don’t blame him. I dont think he’d get in our midfield either, Henry or Davis will play with Milijas, JOH or Kightly as an attacking midfielder. I’m not too bothered, although he was a decent player he did have quite a few stinkers.
Paddy, There is a trend in your comments. The club are always right, and those fans who criticise are always wrong.Pathetic really, always supporting Moxey:the iron fist of football failure.
I’m with Paddy on this one
Can you give me one solid reason why we should keep Gued ????
2 goals out of hundreds of attempts !
ONE awsome game against Spurs but centre mid is a position you boss a game and I cant remember him doing that besides the Spurs game in all of his Wolves games
We can recoup the same amount if not more for a player that id disruptive in training ( chineed hunt )
And He is not going to be first choice with O’Hara , Henry , Edwards , Davis , Milijas n Jonsson
He has also had a serious leg injury and always has niggles so all in all we should really have kept him hahahahaha
None of us can know for sure what goes on behind closed doors. All we can do is compare what has happenned in the past.
Jez moxey was instrumental in the abortion that was last season. there is no reason to believe his actions will be any different this time round, so i am inclined to believe Ben’s view that he was sold to bolster Moxeys bonus.
Under Micks policy of “Favourites First” he was never given a proper run in the side – how dare you slag him off – at Forest he will become the player many of us believe he is, and when he DESTROYS our defence with his pace and finishing I cant wait to hear what the Paddys and Wills have to say then.
Also, please do try to get the irony in attacking fellow Wolves fans for simply wanting what’s best for the club.
Selling Adlene is a mistake – and it wont take long for that to be proved.
“Selling Adlene is a mistake – and it wont take long for that to be proved.”
What would make it a mistake with the midfield players we already have?
Ohara – slow, cant pass, past sell by date.
Hunt – slow, cant pass, past sell by date
Henry – aka backpass, aka red card, aka why bother
Milijas – 2% David beckham 98% missing in action
Jarvis – on his way
By my reckoning only young Davis, Hammil and Kightly are worth anything, and besides, letting one of your better propsects go to a team who will be directly competing with us for promotion – idiotic.
O’Hara had a crap season ‘cos of injury and he’ll be much better if fully fit. Milijas and Henry are both solid players for this level, Henry especially who I don’t think gets enough credit…Neither are world-beaters but they aren’t crap either – in fact I’d have viewed Milijas similar to Adlene. I reckon we need to bring in at least one other midfield player should we get promoted back to the PL
Do agree with you on Hunt though, and Jonsson (not mentioned) I don’t think would be ready either… still crossing my fingers on Jarvis but that would be naive to expect that he’ll definitely stay – he’s more likely to leave than stay… Dave Edwards I view similarly to Guedioura – wouldn’t be bothered if he left…
Scratch that – rate Milijas more highly than Adlene but like I said, no world-beater…
Hmmm,
Gued – Headless chicken, shoots alot (wide and high as a rule), gives ball away
Moxey obviously has his little evil plan though so why get the sale of a totally overrated and redundant player (Dennis ‘never given a chance’ Rossa MkII) in the way of making a stick to beat him up with.
PS I heard they rebuilt the North Bank so they could build an Evil Lair for him to plot Wolves down fall, the secret password is Pie and Pint……
Guedioura
Awful shots to goals ratio
Fights in training
When he starts a game he goes missing more than Milijas
Positional sense is woeful
AKA thanks for your time Adlene but on your way old pal , not needed !
Hear hear. As Admant says “None of us can know for sure what goes on behind closed
doors”. Who knows therefore whether Stole has had a chat with Moxey and Morgan on
this man or not. Regardless, we cannot keep a “massive” midfield when it is unlikely
that he will play. Offload, and regroup. I hope that he does well at Forest, as I would
say for any player that leaves us. We should look at building a team that will compete
at the highest level in the Championship and obtain players that will take us beyond
that. I await in anticipation to see how we fair next season, but I trust in Stole! UTW.
How dare I slag him off ??
Maybe the fact I do not rate him is the reason for that and for the same reason your sticking up for him
All I have heard is he will do a great job in the championship , this in the championship that in the championship , he was one of many players last season who could not pass the ball from A to B , was often out of position , none of you have said what he does better than O’Hara/Milijas as both of those have more assists and goals in games to assists/goals ratio so where is your argument ?? , has he got more potential than Anthony Forde ????
He isn’t Steven Gerrard or David Silva for gods sake
Also you have NOT accepted the fact Adlene WANTED to LEAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!! , MM loaned him out for chinning Hunty , is that acceptable then ??????? , SS obviously doesn’t rate him whetehr as a player a person or both , why wasn’t Adlene with the squad when training started ????? , why because he is hugely disruptive and good riddence I say ……
And you have given your reasons and I have given mine , all I hear from the pro Adlene argument is he can hit a ball from 35 yards and put a tackle in lol I give him his dues in the fact he can put himself about but shooting , dont make me laugh , I caught half his shots in the south bank when he played !
Enpough of you slag off Ward n Berra etc etc well I’m slagging off Adlene so get over it !
John, I think your ‘nobody is saying the club is always right’ is a reply to my earlier post.Like you I’m 63 and been a regular at Molineux for many years.I kept going in the Bhatti era ,went to one of the Chorley games. Was delighted when under shrewd stewardship the sun started to shine with Bull and Co.It seems to me you are satisfied with just supporting the Wolves ,whereas I long for our football club to re establish itself in the top flight of English football. For the last 12 years under Jez Moxey there have been a no of wonderful opportunities but we have failed despite the generosity of Sir Jack. This failure has been largely due to a failure to exploit these opportunities in the transfer market[which could have been achieved without breaking the bank} .Last season was our worst ever in top flight football, seems to me that our Chief Executive, should at least partly be held responsible for this failure.
Nicely put Chris, we are same age. I agree totally.
What amazes me is that the West Midlands market is still wide open Villa had their moment in the sun. To be truthful a lot of Midlands fans are quite fickle. To be honest whoever puts a good product on the field and can regulalrlry challenge will drag a lot of people in. Many so called Brum, Villa and them up the road fans would easily switch loyalty. I beleive this was in Morgans mind when he bought us and started the development.
Although I can no longer regulalrlry attend games I really admire and take my hat of to our fans who have turned out for the last 2 years to see us struggle from defeat to defeat and more importnatly putting a very bad product on the field. First year in Prem was a thrill and a bonus.
Just think what would be happeneing if we were challenging in the top half of the Prem.
Mr Moxey you have reached the limit of your abilities, just like Mick time to say Goodbye
When have we ever known any facts,i for one never beleive what comes out of our club anymore least of all what Poxey spews and its the same what comes out of his arse we all know what that is,even all of us pathetic five year olds..FOJM
As for Adlene i wish him well he did’nt really get a chance under the last pair of so called manager’s..but on the other hand never thought he was a prem play but could have done a job in the championshite and i think he’s done that at forest…
Spot on Paddy. One of the best posts I have read on here this year.
My theory on this episode is that there was already a deal in place for Guedioura to move to Forest in the summer way back in January when he was loaned to them.
It was probably a case of Forest deciding they wanted him, Forest coming up with the money and Guedioura himself deciding he wants to go.
Well, we knew all along Forest wanted him. New owners came up with the dosh. And if I were Adlene, I would probably have fancied the move too.
The whole way this has been handled reeks of trying to push the news through the back door. Deal announced late in the day, no official statements from the manager, chairman or CEO. No explanation at all, nothing. Just gone.
Whether you rated the bloke or not is actually kind of irrelevant. The principle is that we were told every player would be given a chance.
In fact, I’m quite sure there was an article dedicated specifically to Hammill and Guedioura returning at the end of the season to be assessed by the new manager.
He never even laced up his boots.
He chinned Hunt , why does he deserve a chance
Shame your not in the know like some , that is the reason he got shipped out on loan , he was not wanted at Wolves , and personally I dont want players like that in the squad , 100% players yes but scrapping in training is so 80’s , hardly a great role model for the likes of Forde and Davis to look upto is he !
Oh yeah he can shoot from 40 yards , 2 goals out of 202 attempts !
There was an article on that but if Guedioura had already made up his mind and he didn’t want to be at Wolves then there’d be no point keeping him would there?
I don’t think it was as if he was sold without having the chance to impress Stale – rather he was offered the chance to impress Stale and he declined for Forest!
Thomas,he didn’t want to be given a chance by Stale. He wanted to join Forest Read his comments at end of last season.
“every player would be given a chance ” True,if he wanted one. Guedioura didn’t. Since his transfer has he made any reference to Wolves, any regret, any kind words, any appreciation of the fans. No,not a word. His silence speaks volumes.
I wouldn’t get yourself too worked up about it, Ben. We’ve got a shed load of midfielders on our books and the player may have had his reasons to move on. He wasn’t always consistent for us and he was playing in quite a shite team at Forest. Plus with the new foreign owners up in Nottingham we may have managed to get a good deal for him.
A big mistake, he is a class midfielder and if nothing else a manager not checking him out is professional incompetence. Forest team came strong at end of last season and with backing this season will be competing. Are we in any position to call other teams shite?
Hilarious! You do realise you’ve called me a ‘numnets’ in the same sentence as an endorsement of Eggert Jonnson!!!
And I know he hasn’t checked him out because he hasn’t! He didn’t go to Ireland, the players got back two days ago and Guedioura was sold yesterday. You do the maths.
Numnuts indeed…
He watched every video of last season if I’m correct ? , so does that not mean he checked him out ? errr ( 10 times he appeared was it ? )
I added Jonsson for numbers reason as we have 6 players for 2 positions , but ok scrap Jonsson put Anthony Forde in instead , more potential than Adlene Milijas n O’Hara put together !
He didn’t go to Ireland because he’d been given extra time off after playing for Algeria after the season finished.
you seem very bitter will. perhaps your anger isnt football related. seek help.
Right, like this blog post is a barrel of laughs…not a criticism at you Ben, just pointing out the irony of this comment…opinion is obviously divided on this – good! Debate is good! 🙂
i was actually referring to Will … but you are right, it hasnt taken much to get the opposing factions warring already…
Yeah, I know you were – just no avoiding things getting nasty as far as fans’ opinions are concerned… :/
Cheers Hamlet. Its gone down rather well hasn’t it?! (insults aside)
nothing else seems to distill the optimists from the pessimists with such ferocity as Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Do you suppose other club’s fans are similarly divided?
Yes I am bitter because Ward n Henry get sh!t loads of abuse but both have done more for this club that some Algerian who likes to crack a shot from 40 yards every now and then and not very accurate with it either …….
You lot will be suicidle of Big George gets the chop lol
This article is a disgrace, have you ever thought there may be q reason neither manager wanted him also he would not get a match aswell as it leaving space for us to bring somebody else in. You only like him because he shoots far out and tries skill. If.leaves space for another signing then its a goo. Move if not it allows us to offer more to other players who’s there such as Fletcher and Jarvis!! RQNY OVERb
lets just forget the last few days and hope the manager does not take he eye off the ball we still need a new defence and a left back just keep watching the vids and dont fall in love with our brilliant super defence we trust you to make the right decisions get rid now super quick
Something obviously went on last season (possibly the rumors of gued chinning Hunty were true) and so I think it was always likely that Gued was going – the takeover at Forest made it more lilely, SoD being their new manager (and having experience of Gued there) made it more likely, Gued obviously enjoying his time there made it more likely.
The optimist in me thinks that perhaps STS was prepared to give all the players (including Johnson and Gued) their chance but this was more of Gued’s doing than Moxeys – and he wanted to go.
I think the real test of our ‘new era’ will be Fletcher and to a lesser degree Jarvis staying or not allowed to leave!
UTW
Now I am not about to try and make myself sound like someone who has been working under Alex Ferguson for 10 years with facts and figures about this player and that but I do have a close pal who fingers crossed will get a good crack in the first team this year in Danny Batth !
And word got back to me that Adlene dropped the nut on Stephen Hunt and that was the reason for him being loaned out , now the fact he plays in a position where we have more than enough cover and he could recoup the £2m we outlayed for him AND the fact he has had a serious injury too makes it a great decision to let him go !
Couldn’t agree more with Paddy on all of his points especially the Demidov one , Frankfurt are the German version of Wolves really , had success in their history with a large following but they play in a higher level than us so he would be silly not to choose them !
Also put it this way , none of us know the exact amount we got for Adlene , imagine if it was 2.5m , then we got Sigurddsson and Nouble for him , sorry but thats bloody good business in my eyes !!!!
Now stop being a defeatest before SS has even had a chance to show his worth , jeeez some Wolves fans make me so angry sometimes !
angry? sometimes? seems like all your posts are nothing but.
some fans also quickly forget the horror and incompetence both moxey and morgan displayed for all to see just a few short months ago.
its way too early for anyone to be commenting on whether we’ve learned from our (many many) mistakes last season, so lets just wait and see before blowing each other out the water.
Ad Mant, Thank you. I like positivity. Let us wait and see – after all WE can’t do anything, but our new Manager can! Let us hope (and I apologise if I come across as naive), that Stole has the strength of character to “advise” Moxey of the footballing requirements of the club!
You dont sound to have let it go though do you !
Everyone at the club made mistakes last season , board / players together !
But Moxey and Morgan have done more good for this club than bad , giving the Albion the south bank was bad yes and should have either sacked MM earlier or given him til the end of the season , but I remember where this club was at when Morgan n Moxey took over , maybe some of you lot should remember the same !
Another disgraceful u turn by the club. We were told that Gued and AH would be available for the new manager to assess.
An extended rest after INTERNTIONAL duties
I heard it on TalkSport driving to work last night and i was pretty pisseed off i have to admit. It’s not the end of the world, i’ll admit that and yes we really need to offload some of the squad BUT i was really looking forward to Gued getting a chance and a good run of games in the Championship to see what he could do. I feel we only saw glimpses of his best and he never got a decent run under MM. Forest fans absolutely loved him last season and desparately wanted him for keeps. Surely this says something!?!
Whilst Paddy is so keen to defend the love child of John Prescott and Jabba the Hut, everyone is fully aware of what Moxey’s doing at the club (again!) but perhaps we wouldn’t be so angered by his actions (those of us who are) if he wasn’t so underhand and damn two faced about it. If he’d just be open and honest about what he wants to do, we may not be happy about it but perhaps we may have the slightest shred of respect for him.
Back to the original topic, sad to see him go as there are others i would have liked to see leave ahead of him but we do need to trim the squad and we do have a shed load of midfielders. Hopefully he won’t come back to haunt us and i really hope that Hammill doesn’t go as well. Would defo like to hear what SS has to say about it all.
Some supporters do have their favourites, have to be honest I tend to agree with the suggestion of negativity around this blog and others. Truth is we plucked him from a nothing club in Belgium, he showed glimpses of real quality, but never maintained a consistent level of performance. When he started games he failed to influence and gave away possession far to cheaply, the simple fact that he has left to join Forest is indicative of his standing, no premiership clubs swarming round to pluck him from a club that does not appreciate him. Not too concerned about the training ground bust up, that happens all the time, some of the worst tackles I have seen were in training, we have a squad of 50 players and need to trim to 23, I suspect the manager has a number of targets in mind so we effectively need to get rid of 30 players, this is one of many who will leave, and without knowing facts I would prefer to give the manager and owners the benefit of the doubt at this stage instead of making quite sweeping statements about the running and future of the club, just my opinion of course !
Never really rated Guedd I think he was a player (like Milijas and Hammil) who’s reputation with the fans benefited form not being in the team. All I remember of him was him constantly running into blind alleys and not being able to make a four foot pass to feet. But my my did he have a strike on him, yes it troubled more fans in the cheap seats rather than the goal but it was impressive.
That said based on his form at Forest last season he probably was capable enough to do a job at this level where there is more space and time for midfielders than in the Prem. Either way its suspicious that he has gone before pre-season, can Stale have seen enough in those videos to have decided he’s not his man? Or is Moxey behind this one?
As for Demidov I have to disagree with you there, wages may have had something to do with it, but I think top flight football and a 51000 capacity stadium and top class training facilities may have been more of a lure. I think even if we had retained our top flight status it would have been a tough decision.
Nouble I’ll give you, however is a classic no risk signing we haven’t paid anything so if he comes good its brilliant if not we turf him on after a year. Its not an area we are exactly short of players in is it anyway?
The way I see it, Guedioura had already made up his mind about moving to Forest – I doubt there would have been anything anyone could have done to keep him here! In addition, there are already a plethora of midfield players at Wolves so some of them would have to go… Henry, Milijas, Davis, O’Hara – off the top of my head – would all do better in the midfield role than Adlene…personally this is no great loss to me!
As for Demidov – maybe money’s not the only factor here! Maybe he just didn’t like an England move or something – we don’t know exactly why we lost out of him but even if it WAS money reasons we have to remember that we’re not a PL club anymore and that we might not have that kind of money to splash out.
And let’s at least give Nouble a chance before dismissing him as ‘an unfathomable cheap signing’ – okay, he doesn’t look like a star player looking at the other clubs he’s been to but from what little I’ve heard so far he could surprise us all! And remember we still have Fletch (who could be leaving) – we’ve got a much more exciting prospect in Bjorn, Doyle is a great players when he’s on form and SEB was brilliant in the Championship! That last point might have changed but Nouble’s fairly low-risk as far as I’m concerned! Jarvis (or was it Kightly) was a cheap signing if I remember…
agree with your comments 100% Hamlet, trouble is there are to many fans who are just waiting to jump on everything Jez or the club do.
Guedioura told the forest fans at the end of last season that with a bit of luck he will be seeing them next (this) season, he also posted on his twitter page – before! the transfer came to light that things were going to happen and ended with “secret”, to my mind he used the “extra” week to get his move sorted, he had no intention of re-turning – has far as I am concerned good riddance and like you I don’t see it has a great loss, I also see that he has thanked the forest fans who wanted him back – but no mention of the Wolves fans who wanted him!
As for Dermidov apparently it was a close run thing but according to our manager it was probably about wages plus bonus’s and that we offered him a good deal, the player also wanted to be nearer his girlfriend.
Now for Noub-le – we have to give this guy a chance, he is only 20 years old for gods sake, going back to our manager, he has said that players will have to leave for him to bring in his own like Tarik Elyounoussi for example who by the way is a striker from Norway?
We will be seeing a lot of players going that the fans “won’t” be happy with, but has Stale said he is being paid to build a successfull team – maybe we should leave him to it!
Mind you we all know it’s Jez’s fault!
According to Tim Nash, fee was £1m – so £1m loss on him iirc!
UTW
What I do know is that a mate of mine who is a Forest fan is buzzing about this. Says he was one of the best central midfielders in the Championship last season. If the player was determined to go, then fair does, but I would have liked to have seen what he could do for us. I just hope this isn’t one transfer that comes back to haunt us.
It almost certainly will… that alongside offering RJ a fresh start.
That’s 2 bad decisions the Wolves board have made in a short space of time.
A little alarming.
The board? Nope, neither were the board – both Stale’s decision!
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2012/07/24/wolves-sell-guedioura-to-forest-for-1m/
Not the most reliable of sources but I’m inclined to trust them on this – Stale didn’t rate Adlene, he was happy to let him go and Adlene was happy to go back to Forest…
Basically, if you want to blame anyone for the selling of him blame Stale!
What I really want to do is see us signing a LB and at least one CB. Gedioura must be rubbing his hands together with glee at the prospoects of waltzing past berra, stearman and that sack of shit johnson en route to goal.
tick tock. its clear the natives are already getting restless.
…which is a bit of a shame seeing as how we haven’t even had the Aldershot game yet!
And you forget about Danny Batth – if he gets into the first team then he’ll do great for us I’m sure! Either the Roger Johnson we thought we’d bought last season – if Stale can coax that out of him – or a new CB like you say would do for me partnering Batth! I’m most excited by him at the moment!
Abd as for the LB situation, Ward and Elokobi are good enough for this league but I agree that that are needs strengthening!
Sorry Hamlet – That post was not meant for you lol – It was to Ad Mant mate.
Yawn……. just when I thought you were becoming positive. What will you say if he failed
at Forest?
I think the major problem is we have a hugely inflated squad of mediocre players which needs cutting down. Unfortunately other clubs are always going to want our better players.
IMHO Adlene was a good player, not a world beater, I’d rather have seen him given a chance and got rid of Edwards but nobody in their right mind will pay £1m for him. Plus it should not be forgotten that like a number of players Guedioura was in the final year of his contract, is it worth giving him a year to prove himself, finding out he’s not all that and then release him on a free?
My concern is how are we going to get rid of the dross e.g. Stearman or Elokobi, players who are not good enough to help us win promotion but will still be on better than Championship average wages?
Whenever he played for us he wouldnt pass just have a shot from no mans land. Glad his gone , hope he breaks a leg
where is the “dislike” key – that is a terrible thing to say.
Without doubt the most disgraceful comment I’ve ever seen on this blog.
That is a disgrace !
Noooooooooooo. Bad call mate bad call!!
We need to trim the squad.
He wanted to go.
I’d prefer Guedioura to leave rather than Fletcher, Jarvis, Kightly or Milijas.
There will be debate as there will be players leaving for we have far too many.
The announcement and E&S journalism are poor to say the least.
However we must trust Solbakken as I think he must have known, when taking over, Adlene was on his way to Forest, possibly Elokobi too?
I like Guedi he had a run at the opposition/have a go attitude which I think was lacking in our other players. Control and positioning wasn’t always much cop but if we look at Hunt or Jonnson I would rather have kept him rather than either of them. He had very limited play when fit and that he then bust his leg meant he never really got going with us and honestly hasn’t had enough play to judge himn fully. A bit of discipline and training on his alleged temper may have yielded a more controlled and considered player-we’ll never know now.
Those who say he had a chance and was considered are wrong he never played one kick in front of Solbakken as he returned after they went to Eire. One can only assume there is more to it than has as yet been stated.
He wasn’t near PL standard but there again how many of them were!? But we aren’t in the PL now and the hard attritional style play of the Championship I think would suit his mode of play better. I hope we don’t live to regret this one-time will tell.
I do however wish we would get off our arses and sell some of the undeniable dead enders we still have collecting a wage for sweet.. fa.
My for starters sell off list:
Hunt
Stearman
Elokobi
Johnson
Jonsson
Ebanks-Blake
And sack Moxey!
I agree with all your sentiment, except SEB – I think he will thrive once more back at this level and we will need all his goals if we are to push for promotion.
2 Defenders needed ASAP.
Do this and do that. Every player get’s a clean sheet under Stale. I propose we adapt the same mentallity and give the players a new chance. If i’m not wrong it’s a very long time since we beat a team 5-1 away in pre-season.
15th July North Queensland Fury (a) 2-1 Win (Keogh, Craddock)
18th July Kidderminster * (a) 0-0
21st July Walsall (a) 1-0 win (Surman)
22nd July Port Vale * (a) 1-2 defeat (Jarvis)
25th July Bristol City (a) 0-2 (Defeat)
25th July Hereford United * (a) 0-0
28th July MK Dons (a) 1-0 (defeat)
29th July Crewe Alexandra * (a)
1st Aug Doncaster Rovers (a) 1-0 Win (Malone)
Mmm…Please bear in mind that it was a weakened team of part timers who had played 90 minutes the day before and lost a key player to injury early in the game. I don’t think we can read that much from this. I’ll wait until we have some play against better english league opposition before forming any opinion. If we beat Walsall, Southampton, Shrewsbury and Aldershot by any margin then it may show an improved attitude. One thing I don’t need to do is wait to see this to know Elokobi and Stearman are remotely consistent enough to be regular starters if we are to gain promotion.
Elokobi is a beast of a man but far too slow, and Stearman is soooooooo prone to error. He can do well but that good period of play will inevitably be marred by a horrendous gaff. I would be “chuffed” to bits if Stearman left us, but whilst I do not rate him at all I dont want him to break his leg!!
I suppose I am surprised and disappointed that Guedioura has been moved out but I think the reasons go back to last season when there was talk of training ground bust ups and players not getting on with each other. Perhaps this is an attempt to regain dressing room harmony by moving out some of those involved. I did hear talk of other players involved in bust ups but not by name. Does anyone have any idea of the other players involved. Think Steven Hunt may have been involved.
I may be naive but I am pretty sure if Stole had wanted him to stay, as he had seen his potential , then he would have tried to talk him out of the move. A new team is required which blends the best of the old team with some new recruits so lets give Stole a chance to do just that.
Gutted about this episode, whatever the true background is. Feels like *nothing* has changed.
Crikey, the hornets’ nest has well and truly been stirred. Talk about passionate debate. If the team shows half as much next season we’ll be quids in !
Good morning, campers!!
Wow!
Woke up, turned on blog, and bingo!
5 gazillion comments, fellow bloggers out for each other’s blood, murder and mayhem in the air……………and I haven’t written a word yet!
This has got to be a first.
As y’all know, I am not given to rash, opinionated statements or abuse of fellow Wolves fans.
Let me just say this.
Disagree all you like with each other, that is what we are all about on the blog.
Leave personal insults off these pages.
We are Wolves fans, a cut above the rest.
If you have to resort to poorly spelt obscenities, may I politely suggest you fuck off to another blog, one that will accomodate your one sylable or less rantings, like WBA of Glasgow Rangers.
As to the AG transfer, I think it will bite us in the arse all season, as he helps Forest become a very good side. And the other midfielders we have? Give me a break, slow ponderous and pedestrian. Perhaps we can convert Fatty Blake to midfield, he’s slow enough to fit in with the rest of them!
Just my opinion though!
What a moron you are Clive ! What a numpty and a ‘numnets’ (not to sure what that one means though) Lard-Arse Blake in midfield ? Just an opinion ? Thanks for lightening up this blog as it was getting a little bit OTT. Fact is No. 34 has gone and thats end of. Nothing from my mate Johnwolf but plenty of time yet.
Sorry Clive the last insult should have been numnuts but it should have a b after the m.
Judging by the spelling and the insults you can see that the school holidays have started over here. Most of this lot should be out playing in the park.
Dont give out abuse to people that may or not be as illiterate as yourself then you tool !
You couldn’t make this sort of stuff up!
Adlene Guedioura – World Cup player. Deary me, on that premise lets sign up Rory Fallon, who started 3 games rather than a player who made 3 sub appearances.
It appears that whenever Wolves sell a player on, he immediately becomes Lionel Messi.
People were pissed off we moved Leigh Griffiths on, and for some bizarre reasoning decided that Mendez Laing still deserved a chance. I know you’ve not mentioned that here, but some of our apparent fans seem to think anybody we let go will turn into a superstar and score 8 against us when we match up again.
It’s pretty simple to see what has happened regarding Adlene. Staale said he wanted to take a look at our squad, Adlene could easily have come back yesterday into training and try to impress Staale, but he’s evidently wanted to move to Forest.
We have to move players on, especially in central midfield.
Get over yourself!
I’m astounded by people’s reaction to this.
How is this good news in any way, shape or form.
And why is ‘chinning’ Hunt a bad thing?
The guy’s a prick and Wolves’ worst signing in the history of the club.
Ben, sorry not to see eye to eye with you on this subject. But do you think that Stale didnt see Adlene in the DVDs. Now he has a big number of midfielders and he cannot wit until September 3 to make up his preferred squad. If you told me thar it was a mistake to let him go in January I would agree as we were short of them last season with all the injuries and suspensions.
And do you think that if a verg good midfielder is available Stale won’t go for him?
Another thing how can Moxey sell a player without the manager’s knowledge.
So let the new management work on their planned programme and from what I have read on different websites things on the playing pitch are going to improve one of the tactics will hopefully be discarded that is the big punt upfield by our goalkeepers when the ball is 95 per cent certain to be won by the opposing defenders.
Don’t say sorry Alfred! I take your points on board and respect them. Agree with some of those points.
But I do feel that Moxey can sell a player without the manager’s knowledge. He did so with the Akinbiyi sale under Colin Lee (prompting Lee to call up Radio WM to say so)
I don’t think SS could have formed a lastig opinion through his vault of DVDs, as AG never played! If he did, it was something like 4 starts – some of those out of position. Are we seriously saying Stale would make a judgement call on any player with such little knowledge on him?
If O’Driscoll is purring over AG’s footballing capabiities – along with scores of NFFC fans – I simply don’t believe Stale has decided he doesn’t rate AG, as there is literally no visual basis! (apart from NFFC DVD since Jan, which I doubt Stale has watched)
Thus, I think too much power still resides with the wrong people at Molineux.
Just my opinion on an unofficial blog (which isn’t libelous folks!)
Ben,the bottom line is Guadiora wanted to go . He didn’t want to play for us, he wanted to play for Forest. If after watching the DVD’s Stale had thought he was the best thing since sliced bread it wouldn’t have made any difference. He didn’t want to play for us !!!
What DVDs though mate? He didn’t play for us last season as he was marginalised in favour of others (unless my mind is playing tricks on me) Didn’t he play 4 times or something stupid? Last seen shunted wide right of midfield v Wigan?
I do vividly recall the Millwall League Cup game though, when I paid too whack to watch a 30yd screamer and 2 great assists with 7,000 others.
Where has all this ‘he didn’t want to play for us’ stuff come from anyway? People slag me off for not knowing the intricate truth about this deal, yet band about lines about AG ‘not wanting to play for us? which they simply can’t know is true.
Totally agree ben what you have said, how does anyone know what he wanted only those close to him know that…what does insain’s quicker brother know the same as everyone else who’s fuckall…FOJM
It’s not that ‘he didn’t want to play for us’ but that ‘he wanted to play for Forest’ that people have been saying and that you have continually ignored!
So Ben apart from the Akinbyi sale when has Moxey sold a player without the manager’s knowledge? Also if Guedioura wanted to go to Forest then there was really little chance of stopping him.
Whilst I am no fan of Moxey and have slated him in the past is offering high wages really such a good idea one of the small pieces of good news is that Wolves are debt free and will be in a better posistion when FFP kicks in next season
I don’t know Pete, and stress its only an opinion. A hunch based on no copper bottomed fact – as we don’t know what happened here. Both sides of the fence have to presume to an extent, hence the blog above.
Most regulars know I loathe Moxey, no secret on that score, but won’t rake over old coals.
But forgetting the underlying point of my blog, we’ve made a £1 million loss on AG, which can’t be good news.
It’s been reported that beyond the RJ episode, plenty more went on behind the scenes last season that the fans will never get to hear about.
Pure speculation, but don’t you think Gued’s loan without a recall and then sale at the earliest opportunity (without even coming back for pre-season to be assessed by the new boss) is related?
If it’s good enough for all parties, then it’s good enough for me.
He did show flashes, granted. He was only one of a few in my years of watching who helped put the Albion in their place. However, it’s consistency. It’s not as if he was a youngster still learning – by the mid-20’s you should have established yourself by now. And if he was that good, surely someone higher than Forest would have been in for him, once his availability was known.
My dear brother did say yesterday that there’s some similarities with Chris Marsden. A bad egg, granted, but he did go on to carve out a Premier League career. We shall see.
I`ve mixed feelings on this one. We have to unload players as the squad is still far too big, and for the likes of Hunt, Ward, Mijas – who on earth is going to be interesed in those .
Guidiera was very talented, but very inconsistent, and was not one for putting in shifts. The fact he won anything at Forest really means diddily squat, they were shocking last year, and it was easy for our loan players to look good playing in a side flirting with relegation all season. I bet even Ward would have looked a decent player over there last year.
And he wanted away, pissed off because of MM, who maybe found a diamond and didn`t have the nous to polish and get the best out of what he was. Too many struggles of our own to play a loose cannon in midfield, who on his day was infrequently superb, but when not on the pace was an absolute liability.
i`m sure Moxey`s bonus isn`t an issue right now, but is he actually going to get money for some off MM`s dross, ie Hunt, Ward, and the other players in the last year of contract like Berra perhaps. At the moment we are a selling club, even Johnson is on good terms with the heirarchy apparently, albeit no offers for him – no great surprise there.
i like the fact that Stalle won`t buy unless the player involved is better than what we have, or fits into the new system. At least there seems to be a plan under the new regime – thats progress for me, and on balance i`m ok with this sale, even though he may yet bite us on the backside in the matches next season.
“Unconditionally accepting a West Ham reject who Stale Solbakken has not yet uttered a word about is one thing.”
Stale will have seen the videos for him that the scouts will have looked at, and will no doubt be impressed with him by now.
“Refusing to back Stale Solbakken on his number one defensive target Vadim Demidov is another.”
Bundesliga > Championship
“But to flog the only midfielder on our books capable of a player-of-the-season accolade”
We have four better centre midfielders, you could even add Edwards (who has done better in the Premier League than Addy, imo)
Just another chance to moan about Jez?
Hi Louie. I appreciate we usually agree to disagree (and long may this continue!) but this isn’t another chance to moan about Jez.
I fervently believe that Guedioura has been sold without Stale having any sort of input. (I also contest that we have 4 better central midfielders for what it’s worth. This opinion would presume we’ve seen enough of AG to decide, which we haven’t. Not a run of games in his correct position)
When a hierarchy is responsible for last season’s ‘novicegate’, not to mention the utter mess that represents a stadium redevelopment, I simply do not trust them. I do trust the judgement of SS , and I don’t believe he’s been allowed to have one.
I’ll now get the pelters about being into conspiracies, while the same people talk about AG punch-ups on the training ground, bad attitudes etc etc. Talk about irony!
The same people used to see Mark Davies up Walsall every night drinking. Another one who ‘couldn’t wait to leave.’
I personally think the truth is somewhere in the middle and I’m convinced we don’t know the truth behind this sale. And we never will!
I think we will have said to Stale, Forest have come in for Adlene and he wants to go to them. Stale will have seent he cup games, the league games he played for us and Forest I’m sure. He’ll have decided that it’s not worth having someone who wants to be elsewhere, because he clewarly enjoyed his time there!
The top dogs made some big mistakes last season, they seriously fucked up but until then they had done well for a number of years. We got three years in the Prem, we had only had one in a very long time! However, by ignoring the obvious and appointing SS they’ve won some points for me, and I think they will let him mould the squad how he wants.
On Mark Davies, pretty sure that Mick did all he could to keep him at the club (I think Moxey, or someone, wanted to sack him for his behaviour, attitude) and then Davies threw it back in his face by rejecting a new contract offer and signing for Notlob.
Hey Louie, are these the same scouts who brought us AG, now sold without a decent run in the team, especially under McDickwadhead, who found Hunt, Elokobi, Berra, Ward, et al???
Those same scouts who should have been sacked along with the aforementioned McD and Connor?
And four better midfielders?
Are these the ones who were constantly overrun all last season, coz they have zero pace, the one asset a midfielder MUST have over any other?
And please stop refering to greasel as Jez, as though he deserves respect from any decent Wolves fans.
I take it you’ve been to the new mega-club-moxey-bonus store, to get the latest version of this season’s rose colored spectacles!!
Have fun on your summer hols.
Love the bit about our scouts. Just ignore that we also found the likes of kightly (25 fucking thousand, insane!!), Jarvis, Henry, Milijas, Foley. As with all clubs, you can’t get every transfer right. all listed have had some impact on keeping us in the prem prior to last season. Hunt’s legs are gone and he’s knackered, Elokobi isn’t really a footballer (but has cult hero value, ha), and Berra and Ward were fairly solid last season, though the latter’s form dropped a lot towards the end of season.
On the four better midfielders, I genuinely believe we do. I think Mick assembled a pretty good squad, he just wasn’t up to taking us further than relegation strugglers tactically! Henry we know can be a good defensive midfielder, O’Hara is a mid table footballer when fit, Davis and Milijas are great back up for both!
I’ll keep calling him Jex though as it clearly winds you up 🙂
I haven’t been to the new megastore, but the gold-tinted spectacles I have right now are in good condition so no need to go!
Its an absolute fabrication, I was not, not I repeat, not ever out drinking in Walsall every night. Give me some credit Ben, would you take youir missus out for a drink in Walsall, no… neither would I !!
Talking about Walsall, my dear 86 year old mum lives in Walsall – she says the pubs are crap but I don`t believe she`s been in many. I`ll see her on Saturday before the pre season game by the M6. Anyone else going, don`t mind doing a match report either, need 2 buses to take the squad over…..mmmm
Ben, i’d just like to congratulate you on what seems certain to be the fastest century in Wolves blog history. Good on you mate. You certainly got a few knickers in a twist didn’t you!!!
Cheers Martin. It’s a Gilchrist blog! And out of all of the posters, I know you’re always nearby, having a good read! Been on a bit of a blog sabatical of late due to a mental few weeks at work, but this has my juices flowing again.
Just shows that we all care massively about the club and, insults aside, we (me and Thomas) really appreciate every single person who takes the time out to read.
I too am having very mixed feelings about recent developments and statements.
Not ready to get into slagging yet, lets wait and see.
I rated AG early on, thought he was a developing asset until he had his leg broken by Villa in 2010. After that he never really got a chance or a run in the team. When he did it seemed (as with so many Players) that he felt he had 30 minutes to make an impression. This really impacts players and it is hard to see that we saw the best of him in this situation. In the circumstances probably best all around BUT I do think yet again we have let a player with potential slip away.
It has been a constant concern for me seeing good players come to us and then lose their edge, likewise player leave and show better form. This can only be coaching and lack of proper development.
Lets face it MM was a chop and change guy, no one apart from Ward could ever me sure of their place. Always seems we never had a really settled team. I do recall a very succesful Manager/Coach saying “To play good football, you have to play good football”. Meaning to be really sharp and match fit you had to have a run in the team playing at the highest level.
I do see warning signs over the loss of Demidov, and the recent olive branch for Johnson suggesting the old hierarchy are still firmly in control. Maybe they see SS as just the figurehead and so far he seems happy to play the party line.
I appreciate what MM did for us, and having someone to balance the books is important. But many accountants can do that. I still see a lack of creativity from our GM
Just read through the whole blog if Wolves kick off with as much passion we should have a good season.
Some Things never Change
Thats the title of the Blog..
Quite correct too, They never will while Moxey stays at the club..
How many times does it have to be said.
Moxey OUT!!!!
The best one of all now is They are letting season ticket Holders take a friend for FREE! to the night match against Barnsley..
Smacks of Desperation I’m afraid, If you can’t sell the Tickets then give em away, at least they might buy a couple of over priced pints or a pie…
Some things will never Change While Moxey sits on his throne, he will always Deliver S**t
Moxey OUT!!! Morgan OUT!!! TC OUT!!! Johnson OUT!!!
Y-you’re kidding right?? The club are giving tickets away for free – that’s FREE – which personally is an act of goodwill from board to fans in my eyes… yes, how DARE Moxey makes a Wolves game more accessable to the fans, the bastard!
You can accuse him of so much more things but this isn’t one of them by any stretch of the imagination… I honestly can’t see how this is anything other than a good thing ‘cos let’s face it – we’re in the Championship now, of course tickets won’t sell out…
Who is kidding who Here ?
We have gone from a premier League team with some (a little, if not a lot of Ambition) back 5 years to a championship club with no ambition.
The last 3 seasons who would of dreamt of giving away FREE tickets when the likes of Man U etc are coming to town.
Shows How far we have fallen under the 3 M’s….. And as a fully paid up season ticket Holder I look forward to the midweek match against mighty Barnsley..
If The Fat B*****d really wanted to give the season ticket fans an offer, he could have let us all use the new Corporate facilities for the game… To see what OUR money has been spent on..
As well as bringing a free Guest to fill up the empty seats.
Moxey OUT!!! Morgan OUT!!! TC OUT!!! Johnson OUT!!!
Cant anyone who gets these free tickets go to a mate hey give me a tenner or buy me a couple pints and you can have it ?
Use your noggin and make a couple quid off it lol

Fascinating reading!!!
Sums up McDickwadhead in a nutshell….didn’t have a fuckin’ clue!!!!
And a year later we were promoted
Eastwood plays in league 2 now..
Absolutely Clive McCarthy didn’t have a clue especially in 08/09
Of all the players we sould be shipping out Adlene was one that should be given a chance (especially in the Championship).
Just hope they use the money to keep Jarvis and Fletcher (like that’s going to happen!).
Still no defenders signed, still need two left backs too – could be another long hard season of mid table football if we dont move quickly.
Footballing Decisions.
Paul Butler, that solid but unspectacular center half, wanted a two year extension at the end of his contract, but was only offered a one year deal, so he left. This was a footballing decision, ie supposedly sanctioned by our then manager Dave Jones.
When Jones got fired, Butler came out a said that Jones had nothing to do with him leaving, only Moxey.
When Akinbyi (spelling?) was sold to Leicester, we were informed it was a footballing decision.
ie Colin Lee, our then manager, sanctioned the deal.
Colin Lee went onto a WM phone in to tell everyone that was an outright lie, it was all Moxey’s doing, and promptly got fired soon after.
Now we are being told that the AG deal to Forest is a footballing decision. How can it be, when our new manager hasn’t seen AG play live? DVDs? Has he watched all 19 from the games AG played for Forest, and who, by the way, apparently got voted player of the year, even though he’d only been there half a season? And we let him go to a direct competitor in the same division where he was a big hit last season.
Were we not informed that EVERY player on the books would be assessed by our new manager and he would be the one making any footballing decisions, no one else.
Anyone beginning to see a pattern here?
I think the AG deal was done in January, when he allegedly smacked Hunt during training. Now, Hunt being Irish and one of McCarthy’s pets, is untouchable so AG’s fate was sealed. Why else did we NOT have a recall clause in his loan deal?
I think this deal is going to come back and haunt us this season, and Moxey has already got his fix in to blame SS.
And where is all the parachute payment money we supposedly got for finishing last in the Prem?
I have been told it was as much as 49 million pounds. Where is it, or has it been earmarked or spent on building projects unrelated to The Molineux?
I fear that we now support a company that builds and develops construction projects, and has a sideline which happens to be a football team.
Ben, your blog title is spot on, nothing has changed, and never will as long as Moxey is around.
Have a nice day, y’all.
Well blogged, Clive. And yes, where is that parachute money?
Hoddle crapped on us, but I wonder what made him lose interest so quick.
I always remember Dave Jones saying after we were promoted 2003 “Jez and his boys now have to do their bit, they got work to do” We all know what happened.
Personally I dodnt think it was Sir Jack as much as Jez, I also remember Jez being shocked after his first Prem meeting and admitting he was struggling with the numbers.
Sorry guys I do beleive he is in over his head. My son in law good do better, and he is the all American boy who knows Buggar all about footy, but is a great accountant/finance guy.
If there was indeed no recall clause in Gued’s loan to Forest last season it probably means they paid us a fee for the loan. If so then we’ve financially covered ourselves for his cost, but of course I would like to see more players come in now using the mythical parachute money.
It wouldn’t surprise me if a big chunk of it has been put aside to cover ongoing wages etc assuming attendances drop, which they probably will.
I have heard it said that paying 5.5 million for Alfie Akinbuyme finished Peter Taylor’s reputation as a serious football manager. As for Paul Butler and the other players who claimed there poor performances were due to contractual uncertainty they nearly all disappeared without trace after there exit.
Are you seriously bothered about Akinbyi and Butler say ???? , Akinbyi who we got 5 million for and showed how rubbish he turned out to be and Paul Butler who was an average centre half yet you seem to sound like you rated him , jeeez no wonder you look like you never kicked a ball in your life haha !!
I’m sure all Chief exec’s make decisions that overstep the standing of the man or woman but all I do know is Wolves are in a great financial state and we have hardly been shy in spending money so just lay off the bloke , I’ dont say I like him but we have spent over 40m/50m in 3 years in the prem and dont owe a penny , He’s rubbish aint he that Moxey haha
You do spout spome shite Clive just to get your point across you dont like Moxey and would prefer to trust a footballers word that lets face it will do anything to keep a good guy image over a bloke that works his backside off to make sure the future of the club is always secure and that my friend is more important to me than any bollocks a former player comes out with !
Oooooo we have to be so so so worried Wolves fans , really shit your pants time
We got rid of Paul Butler and Ade Akinbyi and now Guedioura
IT SPELLS THE END OF OUR CLUB , OHHHHH MOXEY I SHALL NEVER FORGIVE YOU
Hahahaha what a load of old tosh !
I’m far from panicking at this sale. I like Guedioura, but other than being someone that puts in a shift I’m not so sure he was the missing piece of the puzzle.
Anyway, the club’s statement is that Staale sanctioned the sale as well as the ownership, so regardless of IF he wanted to go or whatever it’s a moot point.
It was a shame to lose out on a CB because we desperately need to strengthen defence, but he won’t be the last player we lose out on.
I expect more signings with the money Staale presumably has at his disposal, if not then we all know how far the club has progressed.
Wow!
Logged on around half an hour ago and it’s taken me ’til now to read all the comments. I think Ben that you have opened the proverbial ‘can of worms’. I don’t think I have anything new to add to the argument – just didn’t want to be left out!
I think I did Doog! My point still remains the same. Namely, that this transfer was negotiated without the manager having a say in it.
Whether AG is good, bad or indifferent is pretty much secondary to this point.
All I hear is that Stale made his mind up by watching a DVD? How on earth is this supposed to sit comfortably, if we believe it?
What, a progressive Scandanavian tactical genius (we are told) doesn’t actually value seeing a player in the flesh first? So he’s the new John Gregory, judging some video footage to make up his mind on a player? Maybe this is why England never do well in major championships…The manager spends too much time training players instead of watching them on DVD.
Then I hear: “AG wanted to leave.” Since when? The same people who knock me for a conspiracy come up with that? On what information? Personal friends with Adlene?
Or better still: Ah, but he punched Hunty!!! Great one. I hope Hunt has a granite chin because Adam Hammill was punching him last season wasnt he?!
And the best one of all: People on twitter arguing that we didn’t pay £2 million for AG in the first place. An assertion based on…Erm…Jez wouldn’t do that, so stop quoting £2 million.
Ben, my brother is Forest supporter.
He told me that Guedioura said in the local newspaper, on several occasions, he preferred Forest to Wolves. It was toward the end of last season. My feeling is that Solbakken knew, when he took over, that Adlene was, more or less, on the way out. The fact that the E&S reportage on Wolves is crass, only reflects the state of 21st century journalism in general. We get ‘Newspeak’ even in the E&S on Wolves. What is more interesting, midfield/forward wise, is whether Staale has enough charisma, to convince both Jarvis and Fletcher to stay and play us back to the Premiership. If he does, as far as I’m concerned, then whoever else goes from midfield/strikers I don’t care. personally think SEB has seen his best days, like Hunt, O’Hara & Doyle.
Hi Robin. I am guessing he would say that as he is being interviewed by a local paper, being as he was asked questions about the club he was playing for and attempting to make an impression. I’m sure I could find Danny Batth saying something along the same lines at Sheffield Wednesday.
If he’d have done a Henri Camara then I would accept the point, but for people to idly snatch the moral highground over a point they are completely speculating over is just wrong!
They did this with Mark Davies, and even Adam Hammill last season.
I agree with a lot of what you say though, and the ‘newspeak’ you allude to is why a blog like this does so well!
If he keeps Fletcher and Jarvis I’ll be amazed, personally. But there again, Jez said we are completely debt free and in rude financial health, so we shall wait and see…
Keeping Jarvo is vital IMO, although much depends on Kites’ fitness. He could have a huge impact!!
I agree Ben with your points, but we must wait and see.
It is how the next few weeks unfold that will be interesting!
This blog will far surpass the Olympics propaganda, over the coming month.
Especially with this response to this ‘Adlene crisis’.
If and I hope not, Fletch or Jarvo go, the blog will be inundated!
Ben what proof do you have that this was done without Solbakken’s knowledge?
What proof have you got that it wasn’t? I am deducing that it has been done without his consent (not knowlege – 2 different things) due to the reasons stated above.
If a highly respected manager with trophies galore deems it not necessary to watch a player in the flesh first – before making an informed decision on him – then I give up and bow to you, Jez Moxey, and everyone else who salivates over him.

And here we are moaning about a bloody Algerian who has hardly played for us lol lol lol
FFS Stale aint even had chance to bring in a couple more of his own yet so who knows who will go n come in , what I do know is there is not 3 other sides with a squad that big with a good amount of decent players in it for this level !
Be interested to know where your “decent” players are.
Ward in your first team?
Sez it all, really.
Well seems as we dont have another left back itts hard to choose one ! , but if I remember right Ward was the left back that played for the majority of the season we got promoted from this league ??
Anyways if reports are true he has his eyes on a left from Scandinavia so you worries might be over !
Like I said lets wait and see who he gets in , my point was we have a big squad already and I think the players we have could quite comfortably get us out of this league as I for one back players who give there all and have a proven record at this level which Ward does ! , premiership quality obviously not but championship most deffo so if we cant get a new left back I wont be disapointed with Ward being picked !
He probably means that AG had blood on his forehead after he nutted Hunt!!!
Fair point Wanderer Will.
We can afford to get rid of a few.
i`ve just checked the FIFA rankings and I see the Republic of Ireland (despite a very poor European finals campaign) are at 26, Algeria are 35th, followed by the USA at 36 and Wales at 38.
For me the headline on this blog about a world cup player for Algeria as part of his cv is irrelevant. He wasn`t a first choice either, as another correspondent said he played right back or substitute.
If only we could sell all our Irish and Welsh internationals, as with the Algerian, simply not consistently adequate for wwfc.
Forest`s new owners are Arabs, so how do we compete with that, we couldn`t – so lets hope Moxey got the best deal he could. He`s experienced enough as a negotiator, even if he had few cards in his hand.
We have to sell some of our inflated squad, we can still field 3 teams as a contributor above says. Apart from those in the development squad, the others are broadly championship winners, but with a few notable exceptions are not up to premiership standard. The new manager has to say everyone has a clean slate, thats flannel of course, those 40 videos don`t lie, and I`m sure Stalle has a get rid of list.
i`m over the Guidiera sale, and frankly Forest are going to be a poor side again this year, good luck to the Algerian if he is their star player – means diidly squat, as does the fact he was a world cup player in an irrelevent side.
Some good points about AG leaving. We must move on but I think we failled to get the best out of the guy. I just find it amazing MM decided he didnt need him in the mess that was last year. The guy was obviously agrieved and wanted away.
The die was already cast when SS arrived. What upsets me is the standard line of bullshit we get fed. Clean sheets, no one will leave untill assessed.
Please Wolves management just tell us the truth, we dont need anything that can screw up deals, but do not openly mislead us. A simple statement indicating that he wanted to leave and that we had accepted his decision, and we expected him to leave.
I think it was effectivley a done deal just awaiting Forests change in ownership to fund.
My guess and fervent hope is that SS saw no reason to rock the boat, this time.
My prayer is that like all good leaders he will choose his battles carefully, and when he is ready to fight for a player Jez is not going to know what hit him.
Talking of hits so AG slowed Hunty up a bit did he? Unforgivable!!! Especially as we all now what restrained gentleman he can be.
Just seen reports from Shropshit Rag (E&S)? About offering certain players extended contracts.
Emphasis on considering!
Whats all this about? Are these the guys that will be the future core of team.
So goodbye to the much vaunted 50% salary cut. What I dont get is why if the guy is some one we want with only a year left are we just considering it .
Looks to me to be a make news story wih no real detail BUT might b some interesting clues here. aybe these guys have tested market, nothing good going on so just looking to fix th 50% clause.
I think now its time to draw a line under this epic blog Ben,i think you nmade your point
and i totally agree with the post you wrote. But one thing i know for sure is as long as Poxey’s
here he comes first then us the fans are off the radar..FOJM..
I disagree, johnok, I think we should keep posting bollocks until we hit the 200 mark at least!!!
What is the record, by the way, Thomas or Benjamino?
You’ve gotta ask yourselves did adelene really have a fair crack of the whip? If so then maybe it’s no great shakes he’s gone. But if not then I think we’ve missed out. Personally I believe he didnt reach his full potential under MM but could’ve done so with Solbakken . Different managers achieve different results with different players & I really think AG would’ve proved a force to be reckoned with under Solbakken.
Let’s hope your logic works for the other underperformers from last season.
I know what yer saying. I hope so too. Just think our new gaffer can give certain players the boot up the arse they need mate.
With reference to some of the comments above nearly all football clubs operate at a financial loss and the Wolves owner is virtually the only one not to saddle his club with some sort of debt.To suggest he is syphoning off the club money to build starter homes, luxury apartments and medium sized new towns is inaccurate and probably libellous.
So De Vries is next. Whats the thinking on this?
With Wayne still out I guess Ikeme is the man. Seems to leave us more than a bit exposed, back there.
Do we have any young gems to help out.
I suppose Wardy could fill in!
I find it quite funny how people are screaming about Guedioura never got enough time to prove he was good enough, yet poor Eggy has been written off after 5 games?
I can’t believe how much disagreement there is over AG and others. WW has a large contingent of fringe players and yes they have to be paid and often they must be moved on. The problem is the number of players moved on who have come back with other teams and then scored against us is now getting longer. NF are our rivals and SoD is a canny manager(from Ashmore Park, like me !!!). This may all end in tears.
We must wipe the slate clean for this season and Stale is the boss but just as in every business when expenditure/recouping of funds is required, the people with the money must be convinced that it is worthwhile for the club moving forward not backwards. This process is the domain of SS and his asst.
As ever UTW, forget last season, it’s gone and stop giving JM an authority that he doesn’t have.
It’s up to the manager to put a water tight case to buy or sell because if it’s not then it won’t happen. Unfortunately DJ’s comment from several years ago about JM and his crew is always at the back of my mind.
