Will I ever be able to think about Sheffield Utd without thinking about 2003?
Probably not.
The Blades haven’t had too many opportunities for vengeance since with both clubs ducking and diving around the top three divisions.
But in our last two promotion campaigns, in the Championship under McCarthy and League One under Jackett, we’ve landed good victories at Bramall Lane.
They’re formidable opposition again these days so a third consecutive victory at this famous old ground would be another impressive statement of intent.
Sheffield Utd
Chris Wilder’s newly promoted team ran riot in the Steel City Derby on Sunday, overcoming their nearest and dearest 4-2 at Hillsborough.
That’s their sixth victory from nine matches and puts them in fourth place, just two points behind their opponents tomorrow.
To say that Wilder has done a splendid job for the club he supported growing up would be an understatement. Where various high profile managers failed he succeeded in getting them out of League One.
Now they’re back they look well set to push for the top six again, doing what so many others have done before, carrying that winning momentum into the Championship.
Midfielder John Fleck is earning rave reviews and he scored a belting free kick to put them ahead at the weekend. He’s one to watch.
Leon Clarke scored twice in the same game and we all know everything there is to know about him. You can bet he’ll be itching to make an impact again.
Wolves
Nuno may choose to reward the players who won us the game on Saturday. That would mean the following team:

I like Vinagre but Douglas is the senior pro and we looked much tighter defensively after half time with him down the left.
Saiss and Cavaleiro didn’t do much wrong but the impact of N’Diaye and Enobakhare was clear. That said, it comes down to what the head coach needs for this particular game.
N’Diaye is a bigger physical presence, whereas Saiss is more considered in possession. Some have suggested Neves needs resting, but I’d be loathe to leave him out.
Cavaleiro is the type of player home supporters dread seeing, all pace and quick feet around their penalty area. But Bright’s confidence is up so I’d expect to see him get a good chunk of the action.
They’re nice problems to have though and I genuinely don’t mind who plays. The tantalising prospect of Helder Costa’s return is also imminent. He might get some minutes tomorrow.
The betting odds
It’s no surprise that Wolves are 6/4 to win this one with a home victory fancied at 9/5. Visit the Ladbrokes free bet offers page for details about how you can enhance your winnings. An aggregate of all the betting sites still shows Wolves as favourites for the title if you’re interested in the longer game, while Diogo Jota for Championship top scorer still looks enticing.
Predictions
We have the best away record in the division and have also beaten Premier League Southampton in the cup so I shouldn’t be that nervous.
But I smell danger in this fixture. At some point we’ll come up against a fired up home team and will have to manage buoyant opposition and a hostile home crowd. This could be that test.
A 4 point return from the next two would be more than satisfactory and I suspect this one might be the draw.
2-2.
Up The Wolves!

like yourself I think we are due a draw, especially as the blades re also in good form
hope I am wrong and we scrape another 2-1 COYW
Good afternoon Thomas.
The chap who runs the Post Office in Brimington, our local village near the hotel, is a big blades fan, and told me I had the look of a worried man when I took the hotel`s post in today. I asked his opinion as to whether the Owls were very poor, or Utd just had a good day in the Sheffield derby on Sunday. He said frankly he didn`t care, they won, and fair enough I wouldn`t argue with that.
Barnsley I see are 5th from bottom in the championship and caused us real problems on Saturday, and until the last ten minutes or so our midfield was nowhere. However I don`t believe, well hope not that that will happen too often this season, but for me just being able to pass isn`t enough in todays game, you need mobility, pace and physicality. N`dye has to start for me instead of Saiss, and if Enokabare starts play him wide to link with Docherty, I`d even make sure that young Irish lad is in the squad.
Can Utd raise their game after an enthralling local derby, well we`ll find out. Wolves have the best away record in the division, and the home side haven’t drawn a game yet, so it could be a 0-0 draw. Can`t bear not to predict a win so its a 2-1 win, might as well keep that run of scores going tomorrow night.
Can’t help but agree with everything you’ve said there Thomas. A point from the Blades is a good result the way they are playing. So fingers crossed for everything to click tomorrow and we might just come away with 3 points but I’ll be happy so long as we don’t lose.
1-1 WRITTEN al over it to be honest .
Welcome from India. Today was Simla to Chandrigahr on a toy train, tomorrow Amristar. The disparity between the rich and the poor is immense. I don’t want to see another curry this year, oh for steak and chips, and it is only the kg of imodium tablts that is holding my bowels together.
Anyway on to the important stuff. In my absence we struggled to beat Barnsley – so much for my 3-0 prediction. Sheffield away a far task and I’d settle for a draw, but ever the optimist Helder to come on and score a fairytale winner!
Just think, after a dip in form, we will be back up to speed and if we can get our noses in front it will open up. So my fellow bloggers 3-1 for me. COUW.
I can see a tense 90mins ahead. They have surprised me.
Should be a tight game but away from home on the counter I reckon we will shade it be a lot of defending to be done, but these are the games that shape your season there on form would be lovley to go there and win Cmon wolves.
You’re not Doubting Thomas, you’re right to smell danger. United remind me a bit of us when we came up from League One. I think we faced the three relegated PL teams in the first four games and beat them all. Like United today, we had momentum and form. Against that we have class now. Momentum doesn’t last forever. Form is temporary. Class is permanent. For that reason I think we can win, although Leon Clarke should be the latest ex-player to score against us. He was a bloody donkey for us and now he looks like a thoroughbred. Was it the coaching?
I’m torn between 1-2 or 2-3 to us. I’ll go for the latter as United are dangerous.
Yep, 4 points off the next two fixtures would suffice. Still I’m (not so) secretly hoping for two away wins. Just looked up “optimism” in the dictionary, weird I know.
Wolves are doing fine on the road, that last minute winner against Barnsley should be good for boosting the team’s confidence, and the Blades would be having a day less of rest after a derby. Not clutching at straws but in such competitive league it’s often down to the smallest. of the details.
I think that our set up is better suited to counter attack so tomorrow’s game could be a lot different to last Saturday.
We look excellent ‘on the break’ so I think that we might just sneak this one but it will be a difficult night.
I remember when Bramall Lane only had three sides, and when they were on tv, they put up a gantry for the cameras on the open side, to make the uninformed think it was a proper ground!
I will never, ever forecast Wolves to lose, but on form, it will be a tight game, so my prediction reflects that.
Blades 1 Wolves 5
And oh what a joy to watch Arsenal win last night.
I thought poolus was going to fizz up and bost!!!
Leon Clarke and Richard Stearmen this will be a tricky game but will take wolves to nick this
Too many people starting to bottle it. Stick with it guys it is going to be a few games before we lose a game.
Wednesday evening Wolves win , no problems.
If United want to play football then bring it on.
Bonatini and Neves the scorers.
I am there tomorrow and I have this gut feeling that I will enjoy it. COSTA will come on and show us all that whilst Dicko could not continue where he left off after injury, he can and will score a hat trick. So ………
Sheffield Utd 1
Wolverhampton Wanderers 3
Some of our star performers, the gamechangers, are being found out at the moment and will change their game accordingly which is why they are star performers.
Personally I truly believe Nuno and the squad learn every game and we will see a slight change in style to overcome the spoiling tactics.
We do have PROPER class as has already been mentioned and the wheels will not come off this wagon as has happened in the past.
Do not fear the blades fellow bloggers , on the up they may be but tomorrow night will bring them down to earth.
Oh and as for Leon Clarke…….do me a favour !
Leeds v Cardiff a draw. We beat Sheffield utd and we are top!
They are in form team like Cardiff we’re so it’s the toughest test yet.
Take a 1-0
Due a clean sheet so it might as well be against a team hanging onto our coat tails. We do play some exciting counter attacking when we are travelling away and that’s how l (would like to)see it going tomorrow evening. Really would also like to see a little gap opening up between 2nd and 3rd places to start with. Then we can move onto applying that gap between the top two places. Rose tinted glasses are back.
I reckon the mighty Wolves are going to shite all over Sean’s Beans
Portuhampton. 2
Blunt old blades 1
I predicted a 1-1 score last game and N’Diaye scuppered that. Wouldn’t be against him (or anyone else) doing that again!
If Neves really does need a rest, I say start Price & bring on Neves when the opposition tires, to – hopefully – lethal effect.
we cannot play every game against the same players or same team, every game will be different, you can only play whats in front of you. So we’re going to see dips in form or changes in tictacs to deal with different teams.
We have lost 1 game and drawn 2 this season so far, I think we’re doing just nicely thank you very much.
Sheff Utd 1- Wolves 3 for me, we should be allowed to play again against a home team going forward leaving us to break out ourselves and play flowing footy.
COMBambinos
See you tomorrow mate. Be there around 7.15.
Looking forward to it buddy, hope it’s as good as the last one.
I think the way Nuno has us playing we could potentially pick up more points on the road than at home this season. The home team has to attack and we have the skills to take advantage of the space. Tough test but a win for me.
Tough one I’ll be happy with a draw from this one I’m not being negative but think they will up for this one due to recent history. COYW.
If Sheffield try and play then I think we can come away with a victory as our game is suited to counter attacking but not sure they will so I will go for a draw
I think this will be really tough. Chris Wilder is an excellent manager as his time at Oxford, Northampton and now Sheffield United proves. I watched them on Sunday beat Sheff Wednesday 4-2 when most of their strikers were out injured – they had to play Leon Clarke and a young lad called Brooks who looked about 12 years old. Clarke scored two plus an assist and Brooks was man of the match!
Like Thomas I believe N’Diaye, Douglas and Enobakhare will come in and I wouldn’t be suprised to see Jota rested for this one either with either Cavaleiro or Costa getting the nod.
Traditionally Bramall Lane hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for us and in truth I was going to say 2-2 but I just gave this feeling that this season we can pull out results no matter where we play.
Hopefully scumbag Warnock’s Cardiff cloggers and Dirty Leeds draw tonight so we can go 2 points clear at the top with a win. Thereafter it’ll be 2008/09 all over again. Altogether now – ‘We shall not, we shall not be moved!’.
OODCL
Thanks for the heads up, Bedford. Didn’t realise Cardiff vs Leeds are playing tonight. So, screw the Champions League, I’m invoking my miserable inner self and would watch that bore fest. Here’s a glass raised for a dull 0-0 game, and 3 sending offs per team hah.
My Leeds United supporting newsagent told me before a ball had been kicked that he fancied Sheffield Utd to be a surprise package this season, I thought he was mad at the time but having seen the game on Sunday maybe he had some inside knowledge.
I would take a draw at Bramall Lane but hope for a win.
With the Blades set up in a similar formation to us with wing backs I’m curious to see how we get along. Expect a stalemate with neither side creating much up until Cavalerio comes on as a super sub.
Few of us would have predicted at season’s start that Cardiff and the Blades would be the toughest fixtures we’d have faced at this stage of the season. But that’s how it is and I feel we will need to be on top form to gain three more points in this one.
But hey, when we’ve needed that bit extra this year, we’ve always come up trumps(except Cardiff of course) and the late, late show against Barnsley will have buoyed the team up no end.
They will, of course, throw the ‘kitchen sink’ at us and we’ll need to ‘plug’ any gaps in our defense. But if we can ‘tap’ into our ‘reservoir’ of resilience, their confidence will eventually ‘drain’ away.
I was going to come up with something too, but I could not think of anything and did not want to faucet.
LOL That’s actually pretty good Brompto’. For you.
I’m not sure what you’re basin that on Brompto’.
From what I saw Wednesday battered United in every area other than putting the ball in the Onion bag, coupled with defensive howlers and it meant an exaggerated scoreline at Hillsborough.
I don’t think we have anything to fear from a team whose strike force consists of one of the laziest players I’ve ever witnessed. Easy win for Wolves!
Crikey, I hope youam right!
Hope the team have been practicing defending set pieces.
Hope Leon Clarke is as crap as he used to be.
Hope!
I’d snap your hand off for a draw right now. Given our recent form I can see a tough night and a narrow Blades win.
I’m hoping this will be one of those games where everyone steps up to prove we’re the real deal this season and dominate against a decent opposition.
It it a tricky fixture, this one, but I reckon we’re still playing better away than at home. As long as we get back to controlling the game with our possession I fancy us to win but I am nervous. 2-1 to us.
Really hope I’m wrong but this is a very tough game. When Neves is on song our whole game looks better and with him being off the pace at the moment I think we’ll struggle. Bonatini to get our goal
I think there’ll be goals galore and so a repeat of the Hull score line!
Why the confidence I don’t know, probably because I’m nervous as hell of Sheffield!
This could be a similar game to Bristol City with both sides going for it. This will suit us and our free flowing counter attack football. We do seem to be more comfortable away from home. I take us to pick them off in a high scoring game. Win 3-2.
We often play better away from home, and also play better when we have a bit more of a challenge, so , no relaxing, let’s be at it from the start, let’s have some goals. We need to be beating the teams just below us if we’re truly top two class.
Got a bad feeling about this one.
Me too Adrian.
Let’s hope we are both wrong!
It’s a big test this one but, saying that Sheffield Utd team is basically a league one team over achieving so going for a win.
I’m thinking of a similar scoreline to Saturday’s but a more controlled performance from Wolves – and a lot more movement going forward.
Jota back to his best after a bit of a breather.
This was Freddie Eastwoods digs when he played for WOLVES…..hope for a win ,take a draw against S.U.
A tough game but I think our class and experience will see us through. Away win.
I thought Cardiff/Leeds was going to be tighter than it was but look what that turned out to be. I think this will be tight so will contradict myself and go 3-1 Wolves. Sheff Utd will want to play but I think we can can play better, up the Wolves!!
Still need to get more clinical up front, I think.
We are playing well away from home and racking up great results… but we will have the occasional stumble where things just don’t turn out right…
Sorry but can’t see us getting anything out of this game on the recent form.
Another good side ripped. Not by the blades though, I’m rather hoping the wolf bares his teeth again.
An tough first half with both teams scoring, wolves to go up 2-1 in second half with United pushing for equalizer but on comes Costa make it 3 -1 final score to wolves
I fondly remember Jan 1997 and a cold Friday night sitting on wooden seats with my nephew for his first ever away game at bramall lane. Bully scored the winner (last minute! and the gold/black army went fekin wild!!!!) and Bully celebrated with a tee-shirt stating that we’d done the double over the Shite only 12 days before & their manager Alan Buckley had been sacked – he had to wait 12 days to get his tee shirt out after surprising not hitting the sprout sack against Bolton the week before. Probably one of my fondest WWFC memories too… was still smiling from the double and their sacking….and then 3 points on 88 minutes 🙂
This game I think will be tight, sheffield won’t know weather to park the bus or use the tram
But if only for nostalgia i’ve gotta go with the same result – 2 : 3 to the mightly wanderers
COMB FOwb & su
Sorry, we haven’t been convincing lately, especially in the final third.
Reading all of the negative predictions just makes me feel even more optimistic. Maybe I am a contrarian, by nature.
0-3.
I really hope I’m wrong as the misses has been itching for a United win in this fixture for ten years! I’ve been to see them a few times this season with her and as a result this has got banana skin all over it for me. Wilders team love playing against possession heavy teams, they are aggressive on the break. The teams that have beaten them this season have generally scored and then shut up shop (Norwich time wasted their way to victory a week ago), wolves just don’t seem to be able to do that at the moment. Clarke being in form is an ominous sign as as well he does have a habit of scoring important goals against his own team.
Hoping for a wolves win or draw but I won’t be surprised if sheff united nick it tomorrow night.
I understand people feeling that a draw would be a good result, but in conversation with myself I asked what result I felt Cardiff would get at Bramall Lane. I think they will win there. Leeds may not absolutely be the real deal but Cardiff put a marker down last night and I would love to match it.
I think that slowly we are finding a way to deal with teams that want to scrap. But for our youngsters it’s going to be a lesson learned every week. We will need to score at least two to win tonight and I think we might just about see it through.
Blimey it’s getting congested at the top.
Well looking at the table a win by three clear goals will put us on the summit.
So that’s it then!
Wolves to win 3-0.
Several predicting defeat for our heroes tonight. By a team with Leon up front and Stears at the back. Do me a favour! Many on here couldn’t wait to get rid of ’em.
The blades will be blunted tonight after their derby exertions, keep it tight first half then a couple of changes for the last 25 will be the difference with Marshall and Costa on
Utw
Already looking forward to the villa game
Like 2003 at Wem-ber-ley Blades nil the Wanderers three.
When Wolves scored the first goal against Barnsley, I thought my 1-0 prediction was secure. Couldn’t see anyone scoring again. Oh so wrong Victor!! But I am going to persist with my 1-0 prediction. If we score first I think we will win the game. More than 2 goals and we would be top. Would love to see Costa/ Bon/Jota forward line at some stage.
Should be a tough game tonight be interesting to see how the emotions of a Derby win affect them. I expect Bright, N’Diaye & Douglas to come. I would be pleased with a point.
Like BOG I would like a 3-0 so WWFC go top!
However as United play the same system as Wolves I think there will be few chances and both teams will negate each other.
Wolves have much better players and a couple of sparks of brilliance will secure the game.
I reckon we might just surprise everyone tonight. We have had an extra day of recovery time and the players will have to respond to Nuno’s inevitable criticisms following the game against Barnsley. Fingers crossed anyway.
As my good chum Bedders has already said, Chris Wilder is an excellent manager.
I was at Wembley when Oxford United (my home town club, so I’m allowed to have feelings for them too) regained their league status and he had turned them round from a bunch of no hopers into a pretty decent team. Same at Northampton.
Having said that, Sheffield Utd were League 1 last season so I expect them to struggle at some point after the initial adrenalin rush has worn off.
We need to up our game from the last couple of outings to get a win here and my head tells me that a draw, in the present circumstances, would be a good result for us.
However, my heart has over ruled my head yet again and I am going for a narrow win.
Didn’t Norwich, Southampton and Leicester continue the adrenalin rush from League One to the PL? I wouldn’t discount Sheff U yet. They looked like an in-form Leicester in the game against Sheff W. Still, Clarke is no Vardy. I’ve also gone for a narrow win.
Simple. We must win this one if we are serious about automatic promotion. Kill off these pretenders.
Fancy a draw which wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Agree, coz sandwell is the end of the world!!
Oh lord its Leon again, he has the habit against us so much he’s been signed twice before we finally realised he’s just not good enough.
We have the better players, we need to be able to play against a big physical team, we didn’t do too well against the cheating Cardiff anti-footballers let’s hope we learned that lesson. I’m hoping Nuno has, but again like many, we’ve been resilient, much more than I can remember probably since Merlin got us promoted last time, thats a good sign.
Yes we’re the best away side in the league, and its suits our players exploiting space and breaking quickly.
I’m going to go mad and break the habit we going to remain second on goal difference with a clean sheet and a hard fought victory. Doc and Batth will be the scorers
As been said above – hoping for the win but thinking a draw is more likely.
I didn’t much like the way we played in the 1st half on Saturday and neither did Nuno.
I think he should reward the super subs and I am hoping for a much more up tempo performance.
can’t be too worried about a team whose main striker is Leon Clarke, surely?
Hopefully Costa gets some minutes, surprised he didn’t play in the U23’s the other day to get some match fitness.
Could be a tough one but believe (hope) Wolves ability to score on the break will see them through. Going for 2-0 win because I usually do.
Blades 2 – 3 Wolves
Against Forest and Barnsley we didn’t play great but we stuck at it and got the result in the end. This could be the same sort of game with hopefully the exact same score.
The way we are playing we have a chance against anyone in the league regardless of form or position in the table, it’s just down to how it goes on the day and whether the final shots/headers are on target. I’m going for a decent win tonight but would not be surprised to see us drop points – some or even all of them – next time.
Last time I went to Bramhall Lane it still only had three sides – and we won.
win by 2 and we go top
Can’t see this being an easy match, suspect a draw but I’ll keep optimistic & go for a win. We have the players now & need to keep ahead of the game.
COYW
We’ ve been dicing with death at the moment. Playing with fire. Riding our luck over recent games. I hope I’m wrong but our good luck cannot last. We are due a drubbing. I have a feeling Blades will be too sharp for us and will cut us to pieces. I pray we do the slashing but for the last two games we haven’t slashed anyone. I don’t have a good feeling about this. But really I hope I am wrong
Soaking up the Sun, Tuborg and gin and tonics out here in Turkey …. Life is tough at times
Listened to the match on Saturday, now I have no fingernails left. Hopefully I won’t have to start on my toenails tonight. 🙂
A draw on the cards, that will be a decent result for me.
An interesting piece to follow up what Twixfix and I heard Saturday. A limo had pulled up just prior to us passing reception at Molineux at the Barnsley game, about 6 of the top Chinese bosses got out with Guo Guangchang (Mr Fosun) and a young fit athletic looking coloured guy / Player. Thelwell was waiting at the door and Jeff Shi gesticulated to him to sign him up.
He was sitting along with them at the game, so perhaps there’s some mileage in this p, especially if Tim Spiers is mentioning it now.
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/reliable-journalist-delivers-exciting-wolverhampton-wanderers-transfer-update/
exciting news, good to know Fosun are still doing all they can to improve the results.
Anyone suggest some names of free agents ?
Seriously? It’s black.
I’m not even going to reply to that Tim…
Wolves TV clearly still
A work in progress
Picture was so bad at times it was impossible to see which team was which… and no sound!
Eventually picture improved and I opened up separate window to get commentary..but the commentary was about 2 seconds ahead of the pictures. Then I’m watching Cav receive the ball knowing he is about to let it run out of play
Meantime agree that today’s game won’t be easy.. but we haven’t had any easy ones yet..at least we have Burton to look forward to.
Now is the time to grind out another three points and install ourselves in top 2 for remainder of season
Two teams which are likely to largely cancel each other’s 3-4-3 out. But we have a litle more class up top than them. I reckon Saiss will start to give us solidity but would love to see Helder get a run out.
I think it will be unspectacular but solid, Bright to get another late winner
Tim Spiers in a second report states, “ we’re looking 2 targets”
No names.
Nice one Fosun
Would happily take a point from Brammell Lane tonight
Come on me babbies
Looking to keep the ball rolling with a another win ,all though it being a tough place to go on a dreary Wednesday night.
I know the blades are on a good run of form lately but so are we.
So on that basis I’m going for a 2-0 to the WOLVES UTW.
tight game close result maybe
This predicting mullarkey gets harder and harder…..
I seem to get more muddled every time I consider the options.
If they score first? …could we get one back or even two.
If we score first ..will we sit back etc….
How will we start…sloppy, vibrant. ??
Will Clarke or Stearman score … will they have mares or blinders..??
Are we beginning to fatigue..?
My conclusion is therefore pure guesswork….. tough game, both sides cancelling each other out
We need to play to our strengths and play Costa 1-0 up half time…
Then bring him on…
Comon you Wolves..
Happy with a 0-0 point, but I’ll never predict it!
Stearman not playing, Helder Costa starts !
What a forward line, Jota, Bonatini, Costa, how can we not win. !
Absolutely love the team selection. The strength of the bench is unreal and I think that is what will win promotion how much quality we have. Got to fancy a win with that 11
Tight game. Like Thomas I smell danger in this one. Hate predicting anything other than a win for the wanderers but I will go for the draw. Really really hope I am wrong and we graft for three more points.
Costa’s back. All is well with the world.
Coady’s off ! All’s wrong with the world ………………..
how could we not win ? By having only 10 men on the pitch !
We’ll do well to win this now.
Costa off looking bit of a disaster what was Coady thinking ¿¡
Why do teams ever sell Leon Clarke. Bloody keep him just to stop him scoring against you.
Honestly if ends up with a couple more clubs he’ll be twenty goal a season striker.
It all gone Pete Tong……….didn’t someone called Tong used to play for Sheffield Utd…?
I said at the start of the season let us see where we are after ten games. Well 20 points from 10 I think most of us would have took it. Listened on radio tonight and a fair start but the sending off and obviously the Pen miss summed it up for us tonight. We move on, can we get to 40 from 20?
and Saville scored two for Millwall yesterday – what is it about our ex-players improving when they move on ?
Now then, Burton Albion, lost 3-0 to the Villa, why wouldn’t we beat them ?
They aren’t being coached by Jackett or Lambert.
Is it worth risking going down to 10 men to save a goal that early in the game?
2-0 Sheffield. No surprise. Loss was due considering our recent performances. Neves has been poor and it affects our game. He is losing possession all the time with poor passing and resulting in inviting the opponents to attack. Are we putting too much trust in a 20year old? I would say so. Give him a break and let Price have a go.
Jota is also young and is losing steam. Glad to see Costa’s back coz Jota needs a break as well.
Bright has scored recently but apart from those goals he doesn’t contribute enough to a game. I would try Connor Ronan. I feel that overall Ronan is the better all round player.
What’s happened to Cav? He seems to have lost his passing ability just like Neves. How many times has he lost possession with bad passes?
The recent laboured play is showing that we lack dynamism. We are lacking speed and strength and dare I say it – desire. There is no rhythm to our play and no one that can dictate the pace.
If we can’t play a passing game due to poor form of our star players then we need to change our tactics but we don’t have a B plan.
I think we are in a false position right now. We had a good start and some jammy games but if we don’t improve we’ll be mid table come Christmas. It’s a bit of a dejevous from last season.
I hope Nuno can stir the players to play to better. We have a match against Man City soon – could be a rugby score if we don’t improve some how. UTW
For 15 mins we dominated bonatoni managed his now customary scuffed Miss when through.
But seriously did wolves not see Clarke’s first on Sunday. The sending off was a carbon copy. Long looping hit and hope ball which Clarke bustles past last man. Coady was stupid 11 men and a goal down is better than 10 with 75 minutes to play. The way we we had kept Utd chasing us for that first 15 it was only a matter of time before we forced an error or an opening.
There first was the result of sustained pressure as a result of wolves having no out ball. Bonatonis one touch link up play can be sublime, but as a lone striker today I’d have preferred a front man with strength like Clarke.
Nunos second half changes made a positive difference but you can’t legislate for missing a pen. Even one as hard hit as neves, in pretty sure that post is still vibrating.
The second as a result of poor zonal marking was well taken and killed the game and we were spared further pain by some great last ditch tackles.
The result is gone. We just need to pick ourselves up and beat villa and all will be forgiven.
