Talk about deja vu.
Barely two months after losing at Bramall Lane with the final kick (or header in this instance) we’re back there doing it all over again.

It’s even the same terrible kick-off time on the same channel. But at least Mike Dean’s refereeing this time, so that’s something.
Wolves should view it as an opportunity to right a wrong after turning in their most disappointing post-lockdown performance on the last visit.
There wasn’t much between the teams, but it was always the Blades pushing forward in that second half and building up to a big moment.
That one stuck in the craw, so even with precious little preparation time, I’m hoping we see a more energetic, adventurous effort from the boys in old gold.
Sheff Utd
9th wasn’t representative of how well Chris Wilder’s team did last season. It was still a fantastic achievement but they should have finished higher.
They’ll know second season syndrome is a real thing. The element of surprise is no longer in your favour. You’ve been sized up, broken down and the opposition’s gameplan is that much more refined.
Still, it’s one thing knowing how to take on this intimidating Utd team and quite another to nullify their considerable threat.

I am surprised they didn’t prioritise bringing in a striker given that their tally of 39 goals scored was the fourth lowest in the division.
Perhaps Chris Wilder believes that to inject more venom into their attacking they need pace in the wide areas, which would explain why full-backs Max Lowe and Jayden Bogle were drafted in from Derby for a combined £15 million.
How those two are integrated into one of the most efficient defensive machines in the league will be interesting to see.
Bournemouth keeper Aaron Ramsdale is the other notable addition, replacing Dean Henderson who returned to Man Utd at the end of his headline-grabbing loan.

The home end
Some views from a pre-match thread on a Sheff Utd forum.
Hadn’t realised they have had no Pre season games. Will they be rusty? Loss of Doherty a factor? He always plays decent against us.
Clearly a positive that they had an unusual pre season, not that confident given that we’re normally slow starters under Wilder at the start of the season. Might level the playing field. 2-1 United, Mcburnie to score first.
Rusty or not they still have a hell of a good side so I am surprised how many negative comments there were. I would happily take a point from this one.
Mike Dean. Oh great. shouldnt his name be at the top in much bigger letters than everything else? He may refuse to come out of his dressing room if he hears about this slight.
Wolves
Despite signing three new players, it’s conceivable none of them will feature on Monday.

Of the trio, Marcal is probably the most likely given his experience. But despite reports linking Vinagre with a move away, there’s still every chance he could be preferred.
I feel that Nuno will go with the tried and tested as much as possible and maybe look to introduce Fabio from the bench.
Our record signing along with fellow Porto alumni Vitinha give us robust attacking weaponry and, assuming the above XI is correct, we’ll also have Podence and Neto in reserve. Options galore.
Traore at right wingback is never ideal for me and I hope Wolves go all out to bring in a really top-notch replacement for Matt Doherty before the window shuts. I’m confident they will. Porto must have somebody knocking around.
Predictions
As always, it would be great to see as many people as possible joining in with the Wolves Blog Prediction League for 2020/21.
If you’d like to join in, simply leave your prediction as a comment in the official preview to each league match (cup games don’t count), which will usually be posted the day before the game itself e.g. this one.
You get 3 points for guessing the correct score and 2 points for predicting the correct outcome. A note of caution: You must always use the same email address to comment and leave your predictions in every preview. Your email address is what ties you to your overall score in the table.
That’s in bold because 99.9% of the emails I receive from people claiming their score isn’t correct are down to them using different email addresses to play.
My best guess for this one is down below in the comment’s section.
Up The Wolves!
If anyone wants to join the Wolves Blog Fantasy Premier League, here’s the code: 5z2ksh

If you can’t be optimistic about game one, when can you be? Fabio with an 89th-minute scorcher.
I haven’t seen an up and coming Portuguese wing back, so we’re probably a bit stuffed there for this season. I’m sure we’ll get over it though.
Jesus Corona would be my pick. Be a massive coup if we can get him.
He plays for some unknown little side. I think they’re called “Porto”. Lots of talent there.
Diogo Dalot – and he came up through Porto
Blades to exploit our new/make shift wing backs and lack of preparation time/ match practice.
I’m predicting a fast start and to get revenge for last season 2-0 utw.
Tough game for starter
Hope we can get Doherty replacement sorted out next week
Tellers,Esteves or ?
Tough game to start, followed by Man City. Almost feel like saying it is a must win!!!!!!! Only kidding! Our two new young players will need time to adapt so believe their benefit will be felt much more in the second half of the season. Marcel looks like a great signing, and a right back is a must. Both teams will be rusty so there is a bit of uncertainty here. Wolves to win in a tough one!
Difficult match. Shef U seems like they are well prepared. They’ve won all their pre-season matches against Dundee, Hearts and won 2-0 away against Derby. They did not concede a single goal during their pre-season campaign.
Smells like a draw, but if Traore, Jimenez or Jota can produce something extra ordinary, I think the Wolves could edge it and win the game.
Its crazy how this season is already starting. Barely seems like we’ve missed any football at all. I think Nuno will also go tried and trusted. I have absolutely no idea how this will play out so I’m gonna let my head rule my heart 1-0 wolves. Podence to get off to a flyer.
Good morning to all fellow bloggers from sunny, sticky, humid Houston!
I have a feeling that our Dr. Nuno has something special up his sleeve concerning our defense.
He would not have got rid of Doherty without a plan to either replace him or cover his position.
We don’t know his thinking, who else he has earmarked for purchase, or at what stage any negotiations may be.
And thank dog for that.
I am quite happy with all the paper/media talk and rumours, and their 100% accuracy failure rate, and Wolves quietly going about their business basically behind closed doors.
We will come out of the blocks flying on Monday and scare the bejesus out of Sheffield, and Pep, who will certainly be watching in preparation for next weekend.
Cor wait until lunchtime Monday, a few pints of Hopadillo IPA, a breakfast calzone, and our first three points of the season.
5-1 to one of this year’s top four.
Start of a new season on Monday.
Take a look at this pure magical moment from last season, they said, “they heard the noise all the way over in Penn”
What a night.
https://mobile.twitter.com/southbankmatt/status/1304674976172212225?s=21
Let’s kick off in style remembering all the good things of last year.
Sheff Utd 0
Wolves 3
Come on me Bambinos
Not feeling the usual excitement before the first game of the season. Hope it builds. One all dull game to match my mood.
Excited to be up and running again! My new season resolution is to remember to post my predictions! Tough game to start but I think we’ll be a tad more streetwise after defeat last time out. COYW!
Baffling transfer period so far – Nuno claimed we were short players after Sevilla and as we get ready to face SU we’re effectively three senior players worse off. It’s abundently clear Nuno had no intention of selling Doc otherwise we’d have a replacement by now.
However, we have brought in some exciting youngsters and when you look at the success rate of those before we are in for a real treat – in days to come.
Mendes’ meddling has put us on the back foot and I fear even impotent SU will capitalise on it.
2-1 to SU
Pre seaon practice game in the season for us so i don’t expect any thing adventurous.
A good run out and a clean sheet would suffice but so would a 6 -0 win.
Think it will be the former .
It may take a while to settle.
Lack of preseason will be a factor
It’ll be interesting to see what team lines up but I would expect us to start with the usual suspects. He may try Traore at wing back and I would not be surprised if he showed improvement there as he would need to… I kind of like Burr and Sanderson and would like to see them prove they are up to first team standard, but you never know with youngsters. I’ve absolutely no idea how this game will play out and would have preferred to be playing against a less physical team to start with as the Blades will be all guns blazing for the first game; sorry about the mixed metaphors. I’ll go for a two one win for Wolves. Absolutely hating not getting to games and the news of the big surge in coronavirus is dispiriting though expected, when you open up bars, restaurants and education establishments. Here’s hoping the hospitals stay empty and we all stay safe…
Traore as right wing-back. Vinagre as left wing-back. Just like many games last year.
I see no reason to worry. Maybe it’s not ideal but that is life.
I predict Raul will start as the/a striker. That’s as far as my front line predictions are going for this game.
We will win 0-2.
I’m backing us to have learnt our lessons from last-ditch disappointments. There’s no doubt that a loss of focus and some dodgy VAR decisions cost us several points. All the difference between finishing in the top four instead of 7th. Hell, we only lost out on 6th place by goal difference To add insult to injury, this knocked the stuffing out of us for the Chelsea and Sevilla matches.
Revenge is on the cards against the Blades. I’m going for the full monty in Sheffield, a clean sheet and a couple of goals.
No clean sheets in the Full Monty ……. but yes agree with the prediction…
Funny old game. 2-1 to the Wolves.
The lack of a pre-season has been mentioned but this team are so well coached/drilled I hope this does not detract from a tough opener against a team who may play into our hands. Wilder will be desperate for a front foot performance thinking we are undercooked and this can play onto our hands. We have good forward options and I predict a win after a torrid first half of backs to the wall defending. On a different note how pleasing to hear old pros Carragher and Wrighty praising Conor’s England debut.
No sure what shape the team is in yet. Go Wolves!!
Despite only limited transfer activity we have options for almost every position with right half back being the exception. (Wouldn’t be surprised to see a signing announced on Monday. Maitland Niles?).
Hoping for, and predicting a win.
Anybody else think wolves can be a surprise challenger for the title!
Asking for a friend
Tough start and a hard fought point
They laughed at Carlton Cole on Talk Sport because he said Wolves could be top 4. Laugh at their peril. Once again we will be sailing under the radar. Great. They can all f**k off.
Stilton, there ought to be an icon we can click to like a post more than once.
I wholeheartedly agree with y’all.
Fly under the radar and watch them all far cough!!
Indeed…
Cheese‘s fan club…..
There is a way …. use a different device and like as many times …as you like…..
I’ve like myself no end….
I’m in love with myself. My beautiful self. Sex Pistols. ‘ No Feelings’.
Strange times, New season with no sight of being able to travel home or away. Like fellow bloggers have said, think we will have learnt lessons from last season. Keep flying under the radar, but kick down the big 6 door. Tough game to call but going for us to edge it 1 nil.
Nothing familiar about the start of this season. Empty stadiums, no pre-season and we’ve still Not recruited all that we need.
With all that in mind, the most optimistic I can be is to hope that we might escape from Bramall Lane with a draw and hope for better things as we go forward and our new signings bed in.
Empty stadium, so there’s no reason to fear this one with superior players in every position. Wolves to move up a level this season. COYW.
Will to win 2-1
The new season…
I am already missing the journey up from Wiltshire, usually the day before the game.
A great meal and a few drinks the evening before the match.
Matchday. Breakfast and then coffee in the West park Cafe with a few good mates before strolling through the park to The Golden Palace, to take our seats in The Steve Bull and soak up the Molineux atmosphere pre match.
Then afterwards, some beers and a cosy chat with fellow bloggers.
Absolutely perfect.
I’m SOOO missing all that.
I just can’t get so excited by sitting in front of a telly watching a game in an empty stadium with simulated fan noise.
And it must be as bad for the players.
If any of you out there are working on a vaccine, hurry up and get it sorted.
… I need my Molineux fix.
Echo all you say Doogooder, particularly the points about the vaccine and us all missing our fix.
Difficult to call this one with no proper pre-season.
Hope we hit the ground running and take it to the Blades, but that’s not really the Nuno way.
COMBs!
I can only agree with all you say DG.
They say you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone, but that’s not true.
I knew what I had and am missing it sorely.
Hear hear Doogooder. I too miss the trip up from Dorset (even though it takes 3 hours) pint in the Combermere and the banter in the ground.
Strange times indeed.
On a positive E&S reporting Nuno close to signing a 3 year deal.
Good news indeed.
Well Wolves start on minus 7 points due to VAR. And minus 14 behind ManUtd and the penalty stratosphere in which they and referees reside. So we are already up against the status quo. Being Wolves we have a mountain to climb but I reckon this time round we will do it and finish top 5. The vested interest can only suppress the emerging force for so long before we break through. This will be awkward and difficult but I see us prevail by 2 goals to 1.
They may as well put that ref on their fucking team sheet
Still were too good for them really
Hi London, hope all good with you.
With no current form to go on, I’ll sit on the fence this time.
Sheffield United 0 -2 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Hi Bedders, hope all is OK with you, don’t like the Lone bit in title, but love your score line.
Expecting a cautious start from the lads although I hope I’m very wrong and we smash the shit out of them, welcome back boys, welcome back.
Only thing I’m sure of is we’ll either win lose or draw!
Agree with Thomas’s team sheet with the exception I’d expect Podence to start in a front 3.
The Europa matches were our pre season and we should now be nicely rested. I’d imagine training will have been pretty intense since they came back so fingers crossed no ring rust.
I’m still predicting a win although a narrow one.
No pre season and we usually start the season slowly – hmmm.
Just have a feeling about this that we’ll come out the gates full pelt and be 1 up pretty quickly.
2 x 7th places for us on the bounce, it’ll be interesting how we’ll fare without Europe in the mix this season.
My waters tell me that we’ll be back there a year from now and a pretty good force to be reckoned with.
Would be good to have NUS’s 3 year contact confirmed to firmly settle the ship and then, hey, watch us fly.
Pretty well nailed the game and the result.
Hello Again everyone
can’t wait to get going
COYW
Tight game but should get there in the end
slightly concerned with our lack of a pre season and Sheffield United have so they will be all guns blazing. What ever happens no needed to panic we will soon get up to speed and we will add to the squad
2-0 is a popular forecast, I’ll go along with that. I’m pleased to see Morgan Gibbs White scored for Swansea; was quite happy to see him go though, as well as Doherty, who did great for us over the years and has got the deal he wanted.
The three new guys look like more Gold, and if we bring in Maitland – Niles that should be enough for now.
Personally I don’t think tried and trusted will be the mantra for this opening game…
Surprise and stealth is what I think we’ll be kicking off with, meaning that Traore will fill in at RWB and Neto up front….. can also see Vitinha in midfield alongside Neves and Moutinho …
Up front will be Raul and Jota…. a definite attack minded selection..
This puts Sheff Utd on the back foot and there they’ll stay pondering where the next Wolves attack will start…
No lack of preseason issues imo to worry about either… haven’t had tie to go rusty…
Jimenez and a Neves blockbuster to celebrate the seasons owner….
Opener…..
The new season is upon us and Wolves have invested in potential in Siliva and the other lad. In Marcal it’s seems on the face of it he is a replacement for the Doc but can he match his goals and assists time will tell.
Nuno himself has said that wolves are not finished recruiting but what we need now is ready made recruits who can go straight into the team when needed. Silva it appears is not going to start every game or even every other game I just hope he is not left on the sidelines to long and ends up frustrated like Catrone.
Although we have recruited three new players the squad is still short in fact it’s smaller than last season as it stands with injury to Jonny and departures. We need still three new players at least in various positions. I hope Nuno gets them and IMO he knows the squad is still short get another long term injury like Jonny and we are struggling.
I hope Sila and the other lad are successful it’s a lot of money to spend on players that are not proven at this level they could end up world beaters or expensive flops and time will tell but they need to be given a chance proper game time not 5 or 10 minutes here and there they need to be give the time on the pitch to prove there worth.
‘…Marcal it’s seems on the face of it he is a replacement for the Doc’
You may be in a group of one thinking that, seeing as Marcal has spent his entire career playing left-sided defensive positions.
I expect a rusty start to the season. Hope I’m wrong!
Greetings from Down-under. Hope you are all well in this challenging times.
I am hoping that the team plays more aggressively this season as we are too often the victim of a last minute goal in a close game.
Trusting in Nuno and that the lack of pre-season games doesn’t harm us. Jota to go on a goal scoring run after scoring for Portugal.
Some technical mumbo jumbo.
https://statsbomb.com/2020/09/wolverhampton-wanderers-season-preview-2020-21/
Having spent most of last season awol (not at her majesty’s pleasure either), I’m going to be decidedly boring, and change from my time honoured 2-1 prediction. But only because I think we’ll be a touch rusty, so go for a boring score draw.
Happy New (Football) Year to all bloggers !
I think the lack of pre-season (enforced of course) might hinder in the way the new talent gels with the rest of the team. I think I would be quite happy with a draw.
New season, new cycle, hoping for some more goals from the squad this year.
Boring 1-0 win will do nicely.
Have to be positive
Wolves 2
Blades. 0
I have no idea! Heart wants a win. Head will settle for a draw. Early season nerves (mine).
Hi everyone from worst air quality in the world
Last. Wednesday sky was red/ brown at 8 and got darker during the morning ….like a total
Eclipse .,. with no
Birds singing
Cars driving with headlights on at midday
Ash dropping from sky all
Day long
Thankfully fires are 40+ miles away
So
Far on West coast they have burned the same land area as Wales
However
I watched all the games today and the Reds v Leeds game was epic. So good to see Costa again and he looks bigger and faster than I remember
The lesson?
Leeds were like whirling dervishes
No Obvious pattern of passing / lots of skill and aggression and fast! Lots of zigging and zagging even
on throw ins
Yes shambolic at times but so much fun to see Van Dyke and others discombobulated
I hope we can
Learn from that and skip
past the Usual cautious first 45 mins
Have a go lads… from the start,
Looking to see Podence and Traore start and Neto and perhaps fab fab Fabio in
Last 30 mins
Lovely to hear Guardian podcast’s Barry Glendinning predict us at 4th place and Lamps fired
That says 2 points a game average all season long….at least!
Why would we be rusty on Monday … they only just stopped playing?
12 points from first 6 games please
Starting in Sheffield
Just looking forward to having football back, win, lose or draw it will be great to see the boys back in action.
I hope we can get revenge and that second season syndrome bites them on the ass.
Debut winner for Fabio!
Hi all great to be back, pity the first game has that plonker Mike Dean in charge. No doubt he will insist on being the star of the show as usual.
Hard to call this one but after last season we should at least know they will play the full 90 mins and not switch off at the end. No idea who will play at right wing back but have to trust in Nuno’s ability to pick a decent team.
Hard fought close game but I think we can just about win it.
Pleasing to see we have moved 4 places up the table and we haven’t played yet . I like it.
A look back in time…..when we could actually attend football matches.
Bramall Lane – I have vague recollection of Yorkshire CC playing county cricket matches at the venue hence the three sided stands for the football and a huge open expanse along the one touchline where the summer sport was held. How on earth the record attendance of over 68,000 crammed into “the Lane” for a FA cup tie in 1936 is beyond comprehension. In 1973 fourth stand was built over the cricket pitch to fully enclose the football pitch.
Early doors in March 1976 five of us crammed into a Morris Oxford belonging to a mate from work (Martin Oliver – he did not sup ale) and set off for a titanic relegation battle v The Blades. As it happened both clubs were relegated come May but at the time both were scrapping for their first division lives.
As usual we stopped at our favourite watering hole when going to watch Wolves in Yorkshire, a belter of a pub in Clay Cross near Chesterfield, a small town around 18 miles south of Sheffield. (Clay Cross council became notorious for some type of corruption scandal in 1973 and eventually went bankrupt).
After consuming a few we headed off to Bramall Lane about 2 o’clock I suppose, and took our place with the relatively few Wolves fans who made the journey.
Both teams were in the bottom 3 at the time so a victory was absolutely imperative if we were to stand a chance of avoiding the drop especially as games were running out.
Wolves threw caution to the wind and ran out 4-1 winners with Steve Kindon (2), “Zico” Palmer and John Richards scoring the goals.
Consequently it was a happy journey as we headed out of Sheffield and at about 6 o’clock (opening time in those far off days) we decided to celebrate at the boozer in Clay Cross.
“Just the one” Martin insisted “I have to get home”.
The landlord “asked us to leave” (threw us out) about 10 o’clock – 4 of us were steamboats. I mean steamboats.
I suppose I must have climbed into bed about 1 o’clock Sunday morning and then had to climb out of the pit at 9 o’clock (Sunday football) with a right throbber.
In memory of another GAD I take Wolves to win tomorrow tea time…..
4-1!
Great story Bog, they light up this blog and take us back in the day. Give Dave a hug from me. A great season will do us all the world of good, in these terrible crazy times. Xxx
Cheers Witley
I hope you and family are well.
I will certainly pass on your regards to Dave – not sure about the hug!! He may get the ‘ump!!!
No fans for a while but at least we tv coverage which is something I suppose.
Take care
BOG
By a ‘right throbber’- are we led to believe this was a headache? Great story though.
Ha ha ha
You are right
Could have be construed in another way back then (but unfortunately not these days).
Can’t believe it was 45 years ago….
So the season starts almost before it’s ended, yet it’s still late. Weird times folks. Weird times.
The team will probably be similar to that which finished last term. Except I think Marcal in for Jonny and Oscar Buur in for The Doc.
Tough start against the Blades but I think we have the tools to blunt them and We certainly have plenty of weapons up front should we need to step it up second half.
I suspect all Porto fans must by now hate Wolves with a passion.
Or now they can have an obvious team to support in the Premier League.
They are selling their players because they need to, not because they are being coerced by Wolves.
No pre-season game but then we have not realy had a pre season, it seems only a couple of weeks since the last game.
Hard to know what the meastro will come up with .
Let’s go for a positive start, 2 – 0 Wolves
Very true kiwiwolf. Sorry I did not respond to yr earlier post, the site was full. I walked home from the Laf many times via Prestwood Avenue in the 70’s- no money for taxis in those days- to our house in Bealeys Avenue. Happy days. Pity we did not correspond 12 months ago, I would have liked to have met up and shared a beer/memories in the beautiful waterfront in Auckland. We had a great time in yr new country, so many genuinely friendly folks and brilliant atmosphere. Perhaps next year.
So is Nuno really saying there is going to be a big change in style or is he saying he wants more goals and more possession while still playing the counter-attacking style we have been playing for 3 seasons?
I can’t see how we can play the same style and dominate games the way he seems to want the team to.
This is the most intriguing thing for me.
Optimism, in a word Tim.
When we were in the Chump we could either dominate possesssion or play the counter-attack game depending on the opposition and the situation. Thats the trademark of a quality team.
1-3 to Wolves, Jimenez brace and a Donk goal.
An uncharacteristic sloppy game from United lets us take an easy by-the-numbers win.
Tricky start but I think we have the firepower
Too soon for us
Watching Doherty lineup for spurs as I write this. But we are looking to the future, and should be optimistic from the start. It’s still going to be a tight game though. Lets edge this one lads.
Hope you’re right Dom, but I think a draw is on the cards.
Sheffield United 1
Wolves 1
Can’t be any worse than Doc’s first game….. like a fish out of formation! I’ll take your draw, I’m always far too optimistic for my own good.
Get in ! Nuno is in this for the long term . Just signed a new three year deal WOW Made my Sunday plus the shite getting well truly thrashed at home
Now just need a couple more additions and we will be flying !
Tight game tomorrow but I have a sneaky feeling we will edge it
COYW
New contract for Nuno confirmed so I’m a happy bunny!
Lack of pre-season is a worry but let’s face it things aren’t normal right now. New season does lack excitement knowing you’ve no chance of being at the Mol & cheering the lads on, but 110% behind them all the same.
Going with the tried & tested prediction & I’ll be watching tomorrow with my new Raul shirt on.
COYW
Thank Dog for that, it was my ONLY worry for the future, he’s committed, so will the team be On that news.
Photo courtesy Of Clive from Hastings.
Got to start the new season with 3pts.
And good to see WBA thrashed today
Come on you Wolves
Well well well . Spurs were utter crap. We will finish above them.
Three more years
With a simple signature, our future is secured
Nuno’s dream continues
As does ours
(Isn’t that a Haiku? If it isn’t it damn well should be).
What a day Sandwell lost spuds lost and Nuno signed for 3 years pity there’s not a lottery draw on Sunday’s.
Yes mate. Sandwell score med my afternoon. Gonna gov em s***e at work. 6 fingered scrote.
And another 2 places up the league in to mid table. And the s***e got smashed 3-0 and are already joint bottom. Gonna be a great season. I can feel it.
I see us edging a goal fest.
Forgot to put score…..!
Nice one Paul!
Very nice……classic that tank badge says it all….!
Spurs looked rubbish against Everton. Doherty stood off against Richarlison and allowed him a totally free shot which missed by a whisker. The commentator said he was just strolling about. Doc subbed soon after. His poor late season form has continued.
Agreed mate. Spurs were awful. If I had been sat there watching that I would not have been happy. Nothing to be scared of there.
Good point Dances. A couple of Blogs ago I said Doc looked unfit towards the end of last season. As I said then maybe Wolves backroom staff had picked up on it or maybe he is carrying an injury. If so selling him for £15m would have been good business. Wolves seem to have the knack of moving players on at the right time. Barry Douglas, Afobe, Costa, Cavaleiro and Weimann for example.
Guys, thanks for comments. Many of us thought that Doc went off the boil at the business end of last season. That cost us invaluable points and Europe.
If Nuno and the staff picked up on this and thought it was time for the knackers yard, then that explains everything about the sale. We have may have stitched Spurs up on that one! He he. It could be that Houdini Nuno has done it again…
Regardless,I think Doc, even if fully fit, will not be used correctly at Spurs and maybe we can buy him back next summer for what WE paid for him originally! He might be good in the squad for Europe next season!
Doc the full back =15M
Doc the wing back = 2 * 15M
Can’t work out your comments Jim.
Spurs lost. West Brom lost .Nuno signed.sun shining. Modicum of wine consumed. Very happy.
Until we meet again which is a constant pain like a stone in a shoe.
Be happy with top six when you look at the competition.
A tight game, but returning the compliment.
Congratulations England cricket team. The convicts collapsed in a heap from a comfortable position. Sets it up nicely for Wednesday.
Slow start for both sides. Decent point though
Very excited for the new year, hoping for possession in this one. Predicting three up top with Neves and Joao in the middle. Would love to see a late game Silva appearance. I think wolves get off on the right foot with a 1-0 , 2-0 win. We are going to need a player like Corona or Telles to compete for a top 5-6 finish. Hoping we get on that soon.
Well worth remembering where we came from and where Nuno wantsto take us.
Happy memories.
https://mobile.twitter.com/Wolves/status/1305230410306195457?ref_src=twsrc%5Etwitterkit
I am concerned that we start this one without much preparation, and with Jonny & Doc out and uncertainty in (Traore or Burr RWB? Vinagre or Marcal LWB?)
Great news re Nuno
Agree with posts that pre season won’t be missed (yet) as old season not really finished for us – just taking a breather. May be more of an issue by Christmas, but hopefully squad will be expanded and new players inducted in Nunology by then.
Still reflecting on the fact that we made the last eight of the Europa League and only lost to a late goal against the competition winners. In the end beaten by a lack of euro mouse and fatigue. But the experience will have grown the team.
Sheffield will be tough but I think we will be able to handle them.
Feel really strongly that Jota will kick on from his debut international goal and thrive from two up front.
Always a good read Jacko. Agree with playing a top two. But could we se Silva from the start I wonder?? I think we should throw the usual out of the window, with nuno signing a new contract and hinting at the need to play a different way. But I’m probably jumping the gun a bit…. tried and tested most likely.
You get an extra like for euro mouse. Made me smile. Bring back the edit function!
Another tough game, like the last visit
Our last two trips to Bramall Lane have not ended well. Its not so much that we were unlucky to lose both as that the Blades really didn’t deserve to win either. Neves penalty miss in the Chump was a turning point in a game where, even with 10 men, we looked like getting something from the game. Last season was simply a case of two seemingly impotent teams unable to carve out chances against each other until that desperate last minute mix-up in our box.
Its probably going to be similar tonight – two well-organised, hard-working teams largely cancelling each other out. Against us we have had little pre-season time together as a squad, let alone as a team. On the plus side we have fresh blood available and, assuming they’re selected, the unpredictability of Podence and the pace of Neto to add to our game.
Still, a tough one to call.
Come on Wolves, let’s get off to a great start.
Hi all,
Making my re-appearance after a season of quiet contemplation. I just got tired of all the interweb stuff and decided to take a break. As a result I had a 100% record in the prediction league so that’s a Brucie bonus!!
Anyway, back now feeling refreshed and pretty happy with recent transfer events. I’m a bit concerned about the RWB situation (Adama can’t tackle a fish supper) but we will still be too strong for SU and I’m going for an away win.
Welcome back mate.
So the new season is upon us.
Feel frustrated that we still can’t be there to watch this fantastic squad develop. First game is always hard to call. We go to Sheffield with plenty of optimism.
The signings are exciting and the best signing of all was announced yesterday- Nuno is more vital than any of the players. I hope we quickly see evidence of his call for more possession and attacking prowess. He sees what the fans see and he has called it right, again.
I’m expecting a win (we owe them one) and I hope for a couple more signings in the weeks ahead.

Nice start to the season with the announcement of Nuno’s contract extension. Let’s couple that with an opening win. WGH
Net from the bench.
I meant “Neto”, sorry
A short hiatus, but welcome back everyone.
A tough one for starters, more so given the absence of a preseason (as already been mentioned). I’m looking forward to seeing our new boys in action, but they are probably not bedded-in enough to play from the start. I’m also wondering if we’ll see Campana sooner rather than later.
A new season, new name – I’m not exiled anymore.
Nor are you West Park Wolf. I would not have known had you not stated . I must say I like this better.
Cheers mate…..and congratulations on the correct score. A good win for the boys.
A very happy new season to all bloggers.
What a time we’ve had as Wolves fans over the last three seasons. Times which have restored for me the enjoyment I used to get back in the 1950s. There was some great stuff on display back then, but, for me, it’s been improved on many times over by Nuno’s team. A team of players with great skills and the confidence to use them effectively.
I ‘m assuming that Nuno has got everyone looking forward and putting last season behind them. I take for granted that the football will only get better still.
There’s just one feature from the fifties that they have yet to reproduce and I hope they can put that right this time. I can still remember us putting 9 in against Fulham, 7against Burnley, 6 against Chelsea and 5 against Arsenal. Last season would have ended differently if just one or two of our games had ended with a Clive. My hope would be for fewer wins by one goal and more by three or preferably more.
For this evening I’m hoping that we can do better than the last few visits and get us off to a great start. 3-1 to the lads.
COYW
Looking forward to seeing how we get on this season without the distraction of the Europa League. Doherty is a big loss, but if the new guys can fulfil their potential then we could well push for a top 6 finish .
But for this game- two good defences. We have the better attacking options but I think the lack of a pre season may cost us some fluency.
Interesting line up. Neves on bench. New bloke Marcal straight in.
Tough one to start with, imagine both will be rusty and can’t see there being many goals!
I believe that Wolves and the Blades will cancel each other out.
One moment of brilliance by Podence will give Wolves the result!!
For the first time ever I am joint top of the prediction league, hurray, however I am also joint bottom.
At least I am predicting before the match starts.
2 more goals top of the league ay we
Not a bad start!!
By the way lads, We’ve got over £100 million worth of talent sitting on the bench.
Come a long way in 3 years eh???
Marcal a new signing my arse.
Looks like he’s been here for years,
Marcal I am happy with. Solid no nonsense performance. Saiss my MOTM.
Great start lads
Iv’e been a fan of Chris Wilder for a while, these last two weeks he’s been using Fergie tactics In saying, ” they had the edge and Wolves would struggle through having no pre-season friendlies, they won all theirs”
Sorry Chris, nobody told Nuno.
Oooh! I went all moist when Raul put that goal in.
Why a superb finish!
And well done to Saiss.
A goal, a very good performance.
And no yellow card!
Yeah Raul took it well.
I, yes I, even thought Saiss was outstanding.
Great performance 2 goals in first ten minutes never before we can out the traps at 100 miles an hour Blades didn’t know what hit them.
What a weekend.
And YOU were not expecting that!
Massive win. Massive start to the season. If I had one moan it would be retaining the ball. For a while it kept coming back. But Sheffield ran out of steam second half and we cruised through at the end. A fantastic win against a very awkward opponent. Absolutely over the moon.
