A lesser writer might have plumped for the old ‘Christmas cracker’ line when summing up a highly eventful encounter at the New York Stadium.

Not me though.
Even if a massive chunk of this Wolves performance could be described as distinctly Yule Log, I’m determined to avoid any lazy festive analogies.
But if I was going down that icy road, I’d have to say Danny Batth’s early goal was a wasted gift because in the time it takes to eat a mince pie, Rotherham had carved us up to restore parity.
I might also suggest Nouha Dicko was Grinch-like in his performance, sandwiching Kieran Agard’s goal with two of his own to leave Wolves looking like a plate of stodgy sprouts.
Others could rightly point out that amid the season of goodwill, it took a charitable handball to bring Wolves in from the cold. Either way, Bakary Sako was a grateful recipient.
James Henry lit the pudding with a tasty finish, ensuring a sweet conclusion to what could have been a real stuffing.
Leigh Griffiths could even have completed a yuletide miracle, had he not stumbled over his own feet like a drunk at the office party.
Still, like an ungrateful child on Christmas morning, we should gather up our haul, be pleased with what we received and hope for better next time.
Merry Christmas!

Sorry for the cack report guys. Hungover from my own Christmas party today. It’s a miracle I got out of bed 🙂
Yule have to do better next time mate. I don’t care how sleighed you got last night, it was rudolph you to cobble together a load of festive puns and try to pass it off as an article.
Just checked with Santa, he says although this would be enough to get you on the naughty list, you do so much good stuff for your brother and sister Wolves throughout the rest of the year, you’re still gonna get your pressies.
You did ask for points for Christmas, didn’t you mate?
I’ll be honest, I lost hope at 3-1 down but I’m glad Wolves proved me wrong on that; this team has the skill but it also needs to have fight and for the second half at least that showed!
The Orient game is going to be massive!
Listened to the game on the internet, I too had given up hope at 3-1, then thought we was going to win it after Henry’s goal.
I honestly believe we are going to have to dabble in the loan or transfer market in January now the top of the table is hotting up. A ball winning midfielder in the Alex Rae mould (not sure about the spelling) would be good and Kevin Phillips may do a job in this league for the rest of the season and as a striker coach long term.
This could of been the 1 point needed to auto promotion..as much as it pains me (still) to see this sort of fixture as an important match – the end of the season will tell..
It was nice to see the response after trailing 3-1 and get a draw..we now need to win the nxt two games and that includes brushing aside Orient…
The Griffiths miss was unforgiveable. I was there (on the front row) and it was gilt edged. His mistake was to look up to see whether or not he was offside – he took his eye off the ball and then lost control with his next touch.
I think it was also the last time we’ll see Sigurdarson. He was dreadful.
Need some serious midfield clout adding in January. To all the Mcdonald doubters, I felt he was badly missed yesterday.
A cracker of a write up Thomas.
Yule have an easy time totting up the PL points this week.
I was beginning to go win cold turkey at 3-1 down, and thought we may get a stuffing before the gifted penalty decision.
But up stepped one of our three wise men to shepherd the ball home.
I looked skyward in the hope of a miracle. And the promised one arrived from Henry’s boot.
There was time left to steal all the goodies but it was not to be our fairy tail of New York.
Merry Christmas to all of my fellow bloggers. From US Wolf.
A gem of an article…..Season Greetings from one of the numerous Malta Wolves fans…Up the Wolves…and thanks a lot guys…keep it up.
Thomas, thanks so much for not stooping to any lazy and cheap Christmas references.
It’s so refreshing to read a good solid piece of journalese.
I’m off to jump into a vat of Yellowtail for a couple of days.
I hope everyone gets the Christmas they deserve.
Hi Doog..
I’ve got some photos and stuff i want to send you from Cyprus but i seem to have lost your email address(new computer), so could you please send it to me.
Oh, and a very merry christmas to the Doogooder household.
Merry Christmas to you and yours too Martin.
Email on its way to you.
Have a good one mate!
Merry Chrismas to all Wolvesbloggers.
I only hope that The Loan Ranger and Twoton can join in the Christmas spirit and give us some
signings we all deserve.
UTW. FOWB.
Happy Christmas all!
Just a few musings about the Wanderers´strike force:
Kevin Doyle – really should be hitting the back of the net more often. Is it just three goals this season? Irrespective of the supposed linking up of the play that he carries out, and his ability to keep the ball on the deck, he really should have a better goal return, especially at this level.
Leigh Griffiths – things don´t seem to be falling for him at the moment on the pitch. Whenever this coincides with off the field rumours it doesn´t augur well, and I wouldn´t be surprised to see him playing his football north of the border soon. Would love to see him succeed, but if we do get Phillips in, surely they couldn´t play together. Big, strong striker to play off, would surely be more to Griffiths´liking.
Sigurdarson – not heard much about his performance against the Millers, but like Cassidy, failure to hit the back of the net mustn´t be doing much for his confidence. Would not be surprised to see him return back to nordic pastures, which is a big shame as seems to have most the attributes to succeed. Our pressures to make an instant return to the Championship, unfortunately means we can´t be too forgiving and allow younger players to bed in to a team that is expected to win every match.
Hopefully Jackett´s got his eyes on a striker or two. Heard Kevin Kyle put one in the onion bag yesterday, so I´d be up for a swoop of him! (tongue firmly in my cheek).
Merry and a goal filled Christmas to all Wanderers fans!
You haven’t heard much about Sigurdarson because there was nothing to say about his performance. He was totally ineffective and failed to have one single meaningful touch. I would expect that to be the final time we see him in a Wolves shirt.
At this time of the year anything is greatfully received, not to unhappy after all,a
point is a point.
Like others i thought we were dead and buried at 3-1 so happy with the point. Kevin Phillips is an interesting one an arch rival who always seemed to score against us and made a gesture to the North Bank after doing so in the play offs. But inauspicious beginnings can sometimes lead to something deeper. His son now plays in the Wolves academy (kevin moved him from Birminghams) and the club seem to have ear marked him as someone they are interested in as a player and potential coach……..manager ?
I remember in the Prem when KP fell over with no one near him to gain a penalty for Southampton against us and yet that night on MOTD only Robert Pires was getting panned for doing the exact same thing on the same day ! Add to that the fact that yes our net appears to become hot and the ball becomes a heat seeking missile whenever he would take the field against us. So maybe signing him is the only way to turn these events round in our favour. But then look at Steve Claridge. Prolific at about 150 other clubs till he got to us. We soon knocked that out of him.
I don’t know about anyone else on this blog, or any other Wolves fan out there, but my Christmas has started early.
Two years ago we were rock bottom of the Prem.
Last season, we were down among the dead men at Christmas…and Dean Saunders.
This year, we are top equal on points.
Much has been said about how we are not playing well, not scoring as many as we should, blah, blah, blah.
If some one last May had told us we would be in this position at Christmas we would have bitten their hand off at the elbow.
Other teams around us are having good runs, and the early season front runners are losing a few.
But they aint above us.
I think that the others in the top six or seven are scared of us more than we are of them.
Lets face it, chaps, we cannot be better than first.
it don’t matter who we play in this division, or what our heritage is, it is still the friggin’ third division of English football, and if by playing badly, luckily or dirty we get out at the first attempt, who cares? We don’t want to be in it.
So, you can play all the tippy tappy football you want, fellow third divisioners, but as long as we scrape by you with scrappy goals, lucky goals and questionable penalties I don’t give a shit.
We will get promotion this season, coz Santa promised me, and that is why Christmas has come early for me.
Having said that, on a very serious note, I wish to offer heartfelt thanks to Thomas and Benjamino for once again producing this fabulous blog, and to say a Very Merry and Safe Christmas to all fellow Wolves bloggers out there.
And in the spirit of Christmas, I will not be cruel to our fellow football fans from Sandwell by signing off in my customary manner with dots after w and b, but will be 100% polite, and spell out my salutation in full.
FUCK OFF WEST BROM.
Coming back from 3-1 down away from home to a form team is no mean feat, especially when we’ve been in poor form. So I hope that whatever Kenny has done to get the team to grasp the mettle once again lasts, and although the points cushion between us and others in the play-offs has been eroded, let’s not forget that the same can be said about Orient.
We’re not the same team we were, even last season, so I think it’s unrealistic to expect us to steam-roller every opposing team this year and finish top with a huge points difference to everyone else (we can but dream). A lot of our players are young, and new to the team, so to be doing so well so far actually speaks volumes about the progress that we finally seem to be making in my opinion. It’s a gift indeed for me to be able to feel so positive about the Wolves for the first time in a long time. Roll on 2014! UTW!
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my fellow Wolves fans wherever you may be!
?????!
‘Coming back from 3-1 down away from home to a form team is no mean feat, especially when we’ve been in poor form’.
My thoughts precisely. That has got to be good for confidence. Now, if we can turn over Crewe we can go into the Orient game feeling a bit better about ourselves.
It was turkey time when Henry smashed in the equaliser .. I burst into song .. “3 1 and you fucked it up.. 3 1 and you fucked it up!! It was beginning to look like we could snatch a winner but sadly Griff smelt the sherry and lost his composure. Great fight back and bollocks to Steve Evans ( Miller’s mgr for doubting the penalty .. twat!) the player was trying to punch it away! We need to build on this momentum with 2 hone games to come. Hopefully Poxey and ginger will dip into the coffers for some more personnel.
Merry xmas to Thomas,Ben,Scooped,Clive, Big Mark and all the other bloggers. Fowb
Yes….
Merry Crimble, as John Lennon used to say, to all at Wolves Blog.
Thomas and Ben, your efforts have kept me amused for hours.
A Merry Crimble and New Year to the team…..
May we be in the championship this time next year!
Happy Christmas one and all!! Thomas has kept this blog going single handedly as I have tried to make a go of being self employed. I’ve been a bit preoccupied. Thankfully for both causes, things are looking good! A big cheers to Thomas. And don’t fret folks, my irreverent, insightful musings will be back soon…I’ve sent Thomas a blog about Kevin Doyle today. Nowt like getting into the festive spirit! Up the Wolves and thanks to everyone who comments
As ever, Merry Christmas to all fellow bloggers.
And a huge thankyou to Thomas & Ben for another fantastic 12 month’s of fun.
Good result from coming down from 3-1 down.
I think if we can sign a few players in January we will be OK, that’s if the two at the top will release the necessary funds.
One point is an improvement over the previous two games, keep the faith, six from the next two.
Kevin Phillips could be a useful asset in the short and longer term.Still able to poach a goal or two.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And a Happy New Year.
