The Championship season begins in a fortnight.

Wolves haven’t as yet confirmed who their head coach will be for the opening day trip to the New York Stadium.
Tellingly, the new owners omitted any mention of Kenny Jackett in their opening salvo, which in itself suggests a change is imminent.
Nothing can be assumed of course, but it’s seems plausible that Wolves could start the campaign with a new manager in the dugout and a skeleton squad made up of players fretting about their immediate futures.
Hardly a recipe for success.
If this scenario plays out here, can we realistically hope for anything better than another season of mixed fortunes – at best?
Or do supporters believe it’s possible that armed with new found ambition and an undefined amount of wealth, it’s possible to completely reshape the squad before the end of August and be competitive in the higher echelons of the Championship?
Dissecting Steve Morgan’s closing statement, the commitment to invest an amount over two years loosely indicates a two year plan from Fosun International centered on consolidation and building this season, with a view to a more serious tilt the following year.
Pragmatic perhaps, but football fans by their very nature are impatient, particularly those who’ve had their expectations inflated by talk of big bucks, Jorge Mendes and Chinese conglomerates.

I also wonder how Wolves supporters would feel if the club appointed a foreign manager and went about a strategy of investing heavily in foreign talent, based on bitter recent experience?
Excited but cautious would be my best guess, given the failed Solbakken experiment that saw the likes of Doumbia, Peszko and Margreitter all fail to adapt to second tier English football.
The fallout from that muddled, disastrous season took some sorting out, a significant amount of which was handled perfectly by Kenny Jackett.
The recruitment, the man management and the football were all to be admired in that record breaking League One season. Similar can be said of the following campaign in which a tally of 78 points somehow wasn’t enough to make the top six.
If we faltered last season, surely everybody would recognise the root cause was losing all our best players and failing to adequately invest in their replacements?
For all the criticism of Kenny Jackett and recent recruitment, the likes of Byrne, Mason and Wallace would never have been anyone’s first choice if greater resources existed.
Following this trail of thought is the logic behind my preference for backing the manager to finish the job rather than taking another giant leap into the unknown.
That would be my hope, but I’m not sure what to expect.

New management team – Frank De Boer assisted by Denis Bergkamp. Get us playing ‘sexy’ total football, attack minded with flair and style.
Keep same system bringing kids through but add 2to 3 quality players with experiance
Kenny Jacket not tactically good enough need quality manager
Sounds to me that the 20 – 30 Million investment over the next two years is what they think will get us into the premier league. After that – and if we do get there- another major investment close to triple that amount would be required to be slightly competitive (ie mid table). So please don’t expect anything like top 6 premier for the next 5 years or so. But first let’s get a team who’ll stay up in the second tier this year.
I can’t say I’m too excited so far. £20m-£30m over two seasons…I’m afraid in today’s terms that’s not much. Bear in mind that the likes of Jordan Rhodes and Ross McCormack were trading in the Championship for £10m. Doing the maths, that gets you 1.5 good quality Championship players who are unproven at the top level per season.
Apparently there was a queue of people getting season tickets yesterday. We have 2 weeks, no players and a coach seemingly on borrowed time. The last time this happened Mick McCarthy came in and cobbled a team together that managed to make the play-offs. All the signs this year point towards a foreign manager who doesn’t know the league, so that’s unlikely to happen.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s all sorted and I really hope it works out well. There are just a lot of things that make me a bit nervous, including some of the recent reports questioning the legitimacy of our new owner’s business dealings.
But I think mid-table mediocrity would be an OK result this season.
I wouldn’t take the figures you mention as the total budget, more like the minimum investment. These guys are here for a reason and that isn’t going to be a middling championship team, they mean to get in the premiere asap; not getting there soon will be failure to them. The money is in the premiere league and they’ll do what they have to to get there.
Most of the words given in the Fosun statement, are most likely given to reflect the ‘baton changing’ words of Morgan. In reality they will do their own thing….. just you see.
I have worked with Chinese companies in the past and believe me they do not hang about with new ventures and the only way is usually ‘go for it!’
I agree entirely.A good 75% of supporters and the local reporters(Express and Star) have it in their minds that the plan is to spend between £20 – 30 million in the next two years. When this seems to me to be a minimum figure inserted as a contractual obligation. For some reason the public and professional reporters alike, don’t seem to be able to grasp this important point.
There can be no doubt in my mind that ‘Fosun’ will do all that is possible to get Wolves promoted as soon as possible.I ‘m sure they have not taken Wolves on to while away the time. The attempted recruitment of a well respected Manager Julen Lopetegui would indicate that Fosun are thinking big.
Need a good manager/coach depending on the structure of the management team and get cracking and expect a play off push this season at least. Why wait? If Mendes is advising and available players of commitment and quality are around then some could be bought in before a coach is in place. We have clear gaps for strikers, left winger and left full back which could be immediately addressed.
Thomas, surely if you knew you were to buy a football club for £45m, about two weeks before the start of a season, whilst the bureaucratic process was going thru’, you would work, behind the scenes to get everything in place, for when you took over?
I think so.
If Jackett was staying they would have told us Friday.
Fosun and Mendez are inextricably mixed and I cannot see the latter, not having a manager in waiting and some loan signings ready, now the deal is done.
We will know Monday.
A Sports presenter named Jacqui Oatley who supports Wolves, replied to a tweet I wrote suggesting Ryan Giggs as Manager, saying she :”Spent plenty of time in Paris talking about it with him!”
So my prophecy is Giggs unveiled as Manager on Monday and maybe Jackett moved ‘upstairs’ into a sort of advisory role.
Personally feel keeping Kenny may be difficult as he wouldn’t be given long by the fans or owners if he wasn’t challenging straight away. If they could line up a candidate asap it’s probably in the interests of all parties to move on.
I think Roberto Martinez ticks a lot of boxes and if we can make the same strides as Seansea did following their appointment of said mangers then I’ll be happy.
What’s just as important is that we bring in 3-4 first team players as the current squad isn’t good enough for promotion, so sorting out a manager fast is key.
I have been out of the country now for the best part of a month doing my best to keep up to date, and now ready with season ticket awaiting the start of the new season.
For obvious reasons given the choices Lopetegui has chosen Spain over Molineux, so we have Kenny Jackett in limbo who has known for best part of a month that the takeover was imminent and his services probably not needed. I admire the integrity of the man who has continued his day-to-day role without speaking out, and with his hands tied over transfer activity. Given the hand he was dealt to play with I doubt that anyone else could have done a much better job over the three years he has been in tenure.
If, as has been banded about, he will only have a treasure chest of 20-30 million over 2 years, ie enough for 1 ‘star’ in the Premiership, then Jackett is a safe pair of hands to buy sensibly and get us over the line 2 years down the line.
If we can bring in Portugese Internationals via Mendes connections and have money to burn then the likes of Frank de Boer/Dennis Bergkamp are a dream scenario.
Having supported the Wolves for 40+ years now with all the disappointments I prefer to be pragmatic and adopt a wait and see approach, I fully agree with Thomas and until we know better I’d say keep with the devil you know.
As it is we have 2 weeks to assemble a team – anybody know a decent striker quickly – Ross McCormack would be sensible.
Fingers crossed good times lie ahead – and the really good news is bye bye Pie-Man – I heard he’s been tempted by Delia’s cooking!
I’m with Thomas I feel Jackett did well till we lost all our best players and there was no replacements worth mentioning so for that I think he deserves a shot. I think a new foreign manager now would probably be a mistake. I’m nervous of a blues type situation happening at molineux but the fact is non of us will know what’s going to happen till its happened.
what do we want – or whats already on the cards …?
we’ve got to hope Lope-dog wasnt the only egg in the basket… if he was, and they have to fall back on Kenny then will they enforce the signings that Mendes has earmarked on him ? If not, do we rush another manager in with only a fortnight to go?
Both options sound very scary indeed.
Kenny is clearly not first choice to run the ship – if admissions by the new Spain manager are to be believed – so does he stick around knowing he is surplus to requirments having all his transfers forced on him ? Who knows – but he is still the most experienced known quantity we have – and certainly the best bet for a season of consolidation…
We’ve got to hope that the powers that be have considered the scenarios and have a back up plan.
In the meantime Im going to sit back and savour the day I worried was never coming…
… getting rid of beetroot AND pieman in one fell swoop !
YEEEE — HAWWWWW 🙂
I am afraid the ‘muddled’ would be good word to describe nearly everything Kenny did last season.
I like Kenny, and remember how ruthless he was when he came in at such a terrible time. After the League 1 season I reckon he’s had his hands tied by imposed financial constraints, and did bloody well to keep us in the Championship last season. But I also remember that it seemed the majority of Millwall fans were glad to see him go. It’s confusing I tells yer! But I think he has integrity and has the respect of most of the players and staff (KM withstanding) which is half the battle. I’d give him a go, and reassess maybe at the turn of the year.
I couldn’t stick another season of us using one substitute at most every week. The man is lovely but tactically inept and inflexible.
It seems that a new coach was preferred before he chose Spain so we can assume that another new coach will be talked of soon ! Hopefully those making the decisions would have spoken of other options and it doesn’t hold things up too much , I understand the sentiment towards kj based on a couple of good years ( no pun intended) but I just think he struggles to inspire the more talented personalities that we may need going forward , Adobe , Macca ! Even in his first year he was dropping regular performing players which many of us on this blog ( myself included) took for ruthfulness , keeping me on Their toes , this was great of course as we were winning but when we start losing !
New manager for me , let’s not waste any more time
Utw
The timing and content all look a bit like special pleading for Kenny but its
also obvious that a lot of other fans feel the same way. Now last season has finished the floating voters also seem to be drifting back towards Kenny. I dont see him being able to spend the money that well or taking the club forward again that much but as they say what will be will be.
The new owners obviously didn’t want Kenny Jackett as they had Lopetegui lined up, now that’s fallen through I hope they have a Plan B which we may hear about on Monday. I’m sorry but whilst I quite like Kenny some of his tactical decisions last year beggered belief and even with money to spend I don’t believe that he’s capable of taking the Wolves any further, mid to lower table Championship is about his limit and I’m sure that Fosun want better than that. I just hope that this all, gets sorted quickly as the new season is very fast approaching and neither Kenny or the current squad are good enough.
I’d like to see KJ kept on in some capacity, either as he is (perhaps until Christmas?), or moved upstairs. Just thinking that some continuity might be useful. Otherwise Gary Neville or Roberto Martinez would be good shouts.
Given that we are only two weeks away from the start of the season I’m not anticipating a spectacular start. Hopefully, we’ll have a settled team and challenging for play-off positions around the end of the year.
So glad I got a ticket for the Reading game on Wednesday evening!
I’m not convinced about Neville following his stint at Valencia and his part in the England set up. Martinez did do it at Swansea.
Keep KJ I totally agree with Thomas. It amazes me how fans are expert in the how’s & whys of football management.
He’s been a good guy for us but impatient fans want success & they want it now.
I’d rather build solid foundations & get long term success not a quick in & out flirtation with the Prem. I think KJ deserves a go with money & backing.
I know my opinion is the minority one but it takes all kinds of views to make the best decision.
See that Vincent Tan is a shareholder of Fosun according to Wikapaedia. But let’s wait & see I’m looking forward to the season, I think it would be sensible for the new owners to keep faith with KJ.
Up the Wolves.
It is certainly the case that KJ was severely hampered by lack of resources last season. But the reality is that he did not make the best use of what he had. Team selections and tactics were endlessly confusing, not least to those players on the field. Worse, we saw petty tantrums from the coach which resulted in a key member of the side [ McDonald ] being frozen out, seemingly on the basis that he dared to voice any criticism. Results in the last half of the season represented nothing more than rank relegation form
KJ has in my view taken us as far as he can. To pretend that he is the man to front the new Wolves is folly. A new start with a coach of proven performance in the modern game is surely essential at this time
Agree totally Mike..!
I’m in agreement with you Mike.
When we first appointed Hackett I said, time will tell if his acquisition was right and to be fair he turned the club around with some fantastic football that I’ve seen down the mol for many a year.
I also said on this blog that if he was any good he would’ve been snapped up years ago.
I think last term he lost his way somewhat with his lack of tactics and team choice, playing player’s in the wrong positions and falling out with players didn’t help his cause.
I wish him well if he goes it was great for a while.Good luck.
I would like to see gigs’y and Neville it could work.UTW
Moyes / Rednapp/ Martinez for me it would be so retrograde to keep KJ..
The £20/30M worries me to death and it is so anti climax ….I fear Albion will be sticking their fingers up with £100M..
I really think it’s a fair point..
I agree Monday will explain every thing if Spiers and Co has the balls to ask the right Q as in – Mendes… are we still after £12M players and was Mendes linked only with lopetegui.
?Are we now dealing with 2nd best and no big signings and therefor less world dominance..lol
Moyes – deinitely not. Rednapp – I like his daughter in law. Martinez -No thanks. Stop banging on about that 20-30 mil comment. It’s bollox. IMO they will spend what they need to.
Come on you Wolves, let us consolidate and take the Prem by storm. I have learned to be patient and will welcome promotion in 2 seasons time – when we are truly ready.
Brompton, I think you are thinking along the correct lines. these guys did amass all their money by not knowing the price of fish. They will have money and a plan for us, there is no doubt in my mind.
I would like to see a proven manager from the English leagues, someone who has really been there and done that. The Spanish guy must be highly rated to land the Spain job, but he could have easily flopped in the Championship.
I’m only saying this because I read it earlier this morning, Steve Bruce who we all know has been at logger heads with the owners was apparently asked to start the season with just 13 fit players, talk about impossible, not a prayer.
I think that hindsight is wonderful and we should have had him a few years ago but not now. Who do I fancy for the job, I really don’t know ATM.
Yes Steve I agree with your summary of the Mendes situation.
He is not mentioned anywhere in the official statements.. so I and many others believe that bid fell short.. Something to do with the purchase of the land opposite the ground its rumoured. Hence as soon as our owners were revealed Lopetegui took the Spain job. He was offered it 3 weeks ago and if felt so strongly could have taken it then.. I believe his agreement with us was not with these owners.
Interesting to see what develops but One thing is certain on Monday they better have some kind of plan..
Spot on Mike , kj is on a hiding to nothing if things start slow but a new vibrant coach , fresh ideas , and a few new faces will be given more time by the masses , you don’t need to hit form in the championship until Xmas so we have time but if we need to change the manager mid season I think could be more detrimental to this campaign !
‘… new faces will be given more time by the masses , you don’t need to hit form in the championship until Xmas..’
Tell that to Solbakken…!
Bruce quits hull
Anything in it ? Or Martinez ?
Yao gorra admit it’s all exciting stuff ay it
KJ had the resources in our League 1 season and we walked the league playing, at times, exhilarating football. Many of the players he bought in were unknown quantities, at least to me, but the blend worked wonderfully. So well, in fact, that with a minimum of additions we all but gatecrashed the playoffs the following year.
Then Morgan lost interest. Top players were sold and we were repeatedly outbid by rivals for adequate replacements. Terrible injuries to Dicko, Graham and later Zyro, and long lay-offs for other key players completely hogtied him. My guess is that Morgan instructed him to ensure at all costs the we were not relegated as that would greatly diminish the value of his investment. Thus the drab, depressing football we endured at seasons end as we eked out enough points for a mid-table finish.
I feel that Kenny has done all we could ask during his tenure here, and in the absence(I presume) of a replacement chomping at the bit to take over, he remains the man for me. Hell, he deserves it.
Unless Del Bosque fancies it. 🙂
Wolfstoker,do you really think KJ is premiere league material because that’s where we want to be and compete.
I also think he would’ve taken us down if we hadn’t picked up a few points at the start of the season.
The last 20 or so games were abysmal. sorry but in my opinion i disagree.
I don’t know if he’d cut it in the Prem, John, and neither do you or anyone else. But he knows the squad better than anyone and he knows the division we’re in and with the wrong manager, likely to stay in.
How many times have we said we need people with Championship experience? It’s a unique league. If, with a capital IF, promotion should be ours, then think again and weigh up the situation. If not, he’s failed and he gets the big ‘E’ anyway.
Sure, the end of last season was dire, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear and Kenny, by then, was simply trying to maintain our status in the league.
I would love to see Ronald de Boer as manager brink some of that Dutch flare and the Dutch top league is not that dissimilar to the championship, may be Giggs we need someone with personally and charisma look what Kauman did to Southampton.
Someone with drive and ambition someone known to British and European players alike. Kenny blew it for me last season I’m convinced his brief was not to get us promoted but also not to get us relegated and yes he may off been following orders, but what does that tell you.
For all the good he did and I’m not glossing over his achiements, I’ve never seen a Wolves team as good going forward as that League One side was, Gouldbourne bombing down the wing Jacobs as well and Sako he totally killed last season with his chopping and changing, tatics lack of subs when needed players played out of there best postion I think it’s time to say thanks Kenny for the memories and move on……..up
The topic of this blog is Realistic Expectations.
Dont know about anyone else, but I expect everyone associated with the club to expect to win every game.
Otherwise, why bother turning up?
I expect a new manager, with new and obviously better players, to be fired up with the promise of unlimited funding and support of the new owners, to come in guns a blazing, take all the players by the scruff of the neck metaphorically, and inspire them to superhuman efforts.
I expect the Molineux to be finished and full to its 60,000 capacity every home game.
I expect the fans to scream and cheer the team to victory every week, home and away.
I expect total football, played in the purest fashion, totally bedazling the opposition, and a shed load of goals every match.
Y’all will think me deluded, but I expect that as well!
Expectations?
Yes
Realistic?
Perhaps not, but then again, why not?
The Olympic bollocks about taking part blah, blah, blah is just that. Bollocks
If we turn up for a match, we should expect to steamroller the opposition, whoever it is.
Never mind remember the Alamo, remember Leicester last season!!
And whoever takes over down the road in sandwell, they can fuck off as well!!!!
Very well put Clive.
Spot on as usual Clive.
Well said
Is that all…meagre
Having been a wolves fan for over 50 odd years I can safely say iv seen it all . But the situation we find ourselves is not new remember SIR JACKS words I’m not a cash cow we have to think more clearly now . Having just heard Steve Bruce has just resigned at hull it wouldn’t be a bad idea to look at him with his experience .As for the new players let him see what what he can do hes done it before.
Steve Bruce would be a great option imo
Strange. I don’t recall many wanting Brucie when Mick went. Me included actually. But he’s proved his worth in recent years for sure.
I predict the Express and Star will use ‘inscrutable’by the Monday evening judging by the Eastern Promise headline on tonight’s paper
Steve Bruce lives in Birmingham so think a move to the Wolves rather than Sunderland would be preferred – let’s have somebody who has been there and done it before – when we get to the promised land we can review then.
Forgot to say, a big heartfelt welcome to all the new contributors on our wonderful blog.
We have some fabulously varied opinions, thoughts and comments, hope y’all stay on board for the ride.
It promises yo get REAL interesting from here on!!
And, welcome back to the M62 tent, Chalkie!!
F o west brom ?
Or even
To get……
Damned small keys and big thumbs!!
Why would anyone want that horrific little shit Ryan giggs ?
He could have any woman he wanted so he chose to hang out the back of his brothers wife .
What sort of a man would do that ?
A Weird and Untrustworthy horrible excuse of man
Sent him down the Albion with Moxey
LWL
Please refrain from foul and abusive language…… the a – word and the m – word in the same sentence.
Fuckin ‘ disgraceful!!!!!!!
To my way of thinking, a spend £20-30M over two years is a sensible statement to make by the new owners.
When Sir Jack was ‘The Golden Tit’, every club knew that he spent big and every player cost a lot more as a result.
The money’s there, I would suggest that if there’s a bargain to be had at slightly more than the allotted amount, it will be found.
With or without Kenny Jackett and based on our our existing squad plus three or four new signings:- Centre back, creative midfielder, striker, winger – top six has to be the target.
Finally, a big welcome to Mr Sky Sun.
Is there a better, more positive name for a club representative?
Things move fast on the Wolves Blog.
I posted this on the last one and no bugger is going to read it now so I’m posting it again on this.
After all, what’s the point of writing something if no one reads it?
If a tree falls in a forest will anyone hear it?
What’s the sound of one hand clapping?
Why couldn’t I have been a fly on the wall when JM got his marching orders?…..
Gutted that over 100 other bloggers have commented before me on what is one of the biggest sporting events in the whole history of sporting events.
I was chilling out yesterday evening in the campervan on Freshwater West beach with only the PMDG’er, a few seagulls, a couple of spaced out surfer dudes and my new Cajon for company.
Some alcohol might have been involved as well but the days of the ‘waccy’ are behind me now for obvious reasons.
Welsh bloggers will need no introduction to Freshwater West – one of the most beautiful spots on God’s Earth.
Fellow percussionists will need no introduction to the Cajon – how much fun can you have beating the shit out of a wooden box with a hole in it?
I think that most relevant, and irrelevant, points have been raised and put to bed by the 100+ previous comments.
Suffice to say that the roller coaster is on the up and is approaching the summit.
Let’s just hope that it stays on the rails when the exciting bit starts.
Hands in the air everyone, and no screaming!!
One thing worries me though.
If Kenny Jackett goes, what am I going to find to argue about with Steve Showcase?
Oh! Never mind. I’m sure we’ll think of something.
Steve Bruce?
As I recall, he got bored with waiting for Morgan & Moxey to make a decision after Mick McCarthy was sacked.
He’s got the experience to get promotion without huge investment so he’ll do for me.
However, have to feel a little sorry for Kenny Jackett. Poor bloke’s likely to lose his job this weekend and he hasn’t done a lot wrong. He deserves our thanks and best wishes.
Having said that, I don’t think he’ll be reduced to shopping from the bargain shelves at Asda.
Expectations? I’ve just put a tenner on a top-two finish!
Harry
K mac gone to Fulham
Kevin Mac going to Fulham is the first decision made under the new ownership, and for £1.25m makes no sense to me.
Not a good start.
So the rumours about Messi and Neymar wont placate you??!!
Why are Wolves fans so bloody good at being miserable? Is it the natural default position of all those born in the Black Country? The perennial glass half empty syndrome?
Since the announcement all I’ve read both on here and other Wolves sites is moaning and whinging. Why wasn’t it Li? They’ve only got £9billion? No Lopetegui? Only investing £20-£30m in the next two seasons (even though that’s more than we’ve spent in the past six years under the tosser Morgan)? We don’t want Bruce? We don’t want Giggs? We don’t want to believe it or be happy.
For dog’s sake!
For the past couple of days I have been walking on air. Ecstatic. Over the moon. Excited. Hopes and dreams reinstated. Ambition restored. Once more I can dare to dream of my beloved Wolves dining at football’s top table. Playing in Europe. Winning trophies. At the end of last season and ever since we have none of that. No hope. No dreams.
So come on people!!!!!
Morgan has gone. That weak, pathetic, timid, money grabbing apology for a man who was bleeding us dry and sticking all hope has gone! Rejoice people, rejoice.
Moxey is going. That horrible, despicable, arrogant, pocket lining liar who has held we loyal fans in contempt is going. Rejoice? Feck no, let’s have a party and celebrate!
Thelwell must be going – a man charged with recruiting players but who wouldn’t recognise a talented footballer if he fell over one. Goodbye.
Jackett is surely going too. I really find it incredible that there are Wolves fans saying he should be kept on. Did you not watch us at all last season? The man is lovely, a gentleman and has principles but he is tactically inept. He has reached his level. Remember him standing there on the touchline, arms folded, motionless and emotionless as games slipped away, as the opposition made changes to tactics and systems and personnel while he did nothing? Sorry, xalmist nothing. I mean he occasionally bring on one substitute in the 85th minute. Two subs? Never! Three? You’re having a giraffe!
Good times are a coming. New owners, new CEO, new Head of Recruitment, new players. We will be spending big and we will be back in the Foreign Money League within 2 seasons. The difference is that this time WE will have foreign money too – and people running the club who understand. Understand that being in the top league guarantees you a minimum £180m a year!
Be happy. Be positive. Be in your face, up yours, we’re coming for you so watch out ecstatic.
We are WOLVES!
Well said Bedford,I’m a blackcountry mon from wolves and I’m egg static too.UTW
Brilliant Bedford.
Agree completely.
Am sure, while the deal was going through it’s ‘bureaucracy’, Feng Shi, our new ‘owner’s rep’ and his ‘team’, worked out their strategy for the beginning of the season –
New Manager included –
I’m dreaming like Clive and Bedford and hopefully, what they announce Monday will further feed my enthusiasm!
I’m guilty as charged. In my/our defence, we’ve been put through the wringer so many times it’s very hard to be upbeat. An average promotion/relegation/cup win every 3 years in my life as a Wolves fan and 19 consecutive years of that were stuck in the 2nd division constantly threatening but failing to get out suggests the rest has been a very bumpy ride indeed with every high followed almost immediately by a low. We finally get there and fail to invest and get relegated. We get another shot and 3 times fail to invest then make the worst managerial appointment in the history of the Premier League to kick start a double relegation. All of which pales into insignificance compared to the dead midtable seasons with no redeeming features, of which last season was the worst yet. Even the sale, dragging on as it did, promised so much and, after weeks of checking twitter every 5 minutes, then managed to deliver an anticlimax with our billionaire owner turning into an investment company and our supposed manager in waiting ducking out at the 11th hour and Moxey leaving turning out to be staying for at least 3 months (which leads one to worry it could be longer and/or could impose the same crippling wage cap that guarantees you break even and break hearts), wiith 2 weeks to go until the season starts and a squad that was not good enough last season only further depleted. I dared to dream we’d be a billionaire’s plaything and they would stop at nothing to build us a new ground, invest in players, put us back near the top (I’m thinking Chelsea and Man City). I’d reconciled that we could crash and burn but the alternative (failing to invest, failing to compete, failing to entertain) was so bad it had to be worth a shot. What we’ve got is an investment company, who will only invest to make a profit. That might get us to the Premier League and might keep us there (I was always baffled why we didn’t invest a fraction of what we might earn just to stay there) but it’s no fairy tale. So, call me cynical by all means, because I certainly am and, as the saying goes, a pessimist is never disappointed 😉 Having said all of that, I’m glad to see the back of Morgan, I’m going to believe that Moxey will stick to his word and leave (in the meantime I might try to get Moxit trending on twitter just for fun), I’m going to assume that with a proven Championship promotion-winning manager like Bruce suddenly on the market we will push the boat out to get our man, invest in at least 3 proven goalscorers and another few midfield maestros before the transfer window shuts and if any of that doesn’t come true I’m not going to say I told you so. Hang on I’m just about half way down this beer. I think it needs a top up. Actually, I’m not going to top it up yet, I think I’m going to wait until it’s half empty 🙂
An excellent and very erudite reply. I understand completely and from the sound of it we are of a similar era as I have experienced 9 relegations and 8 promotions in my time supporting Wolves with 2 cup wins – well 4 if we count the Texaco Cup in 71 and the Sherpa Van in 88! Keep that glass half full mate!
Sorry. I had to get that off my chest. You’re right to call us out on this. Now is not the time for moaning. I had already picked myself up on this. In case the previous post came across as sarcastic, it’s not. I’ve given myself a pep talk and decided to be optimistic for a change. New manager, new players, more realistic wage cap to enable us to compete, sensible investment decisions instead of austerity. Happy times ahead. COYW
Bedford, My glass is never half anything. If it’s more than half full, it usually means it’s just been pulled. If I’ve had two sips it will always be less than half full. I used to do 4 pints at lunchtime in the Great Western, it was just the norm and usually managed the Steak Pie and chips in the same 50 minutes or so.
During the darkest days of last season, in the bleak mid-winter didn’t some of us say on this blog that whilst we will always be here, the 2 MM’s will one day be gone. 21st July marked the culmination of the Peoples Revolution with the help of our Chinese conrades. Surely the arrival of Fosun can only be greeted with excitement. The Chinese government are actively encouraging their successful business people to go out and seek opportunities to help put China on the map as a football super power. They will NOT sit back and allow their global acquisitions to meander in the footballing backwaters. They will want to see them compete with Chelsea/Man Utd and embrace global TV audiences. I believe we are in for some very excting times ahead. Oh and a massive FOWB !
Yes it was said that “we were there before they came and we’d be there after they’d gone “… Took a fucking while tho eh ? !
I just realized that I am now a shareholder in WWFC
Everything I buy is made in China!!
Fluck off west blom!!!
Like it Clive. It woe be long before Wolvo is besieged by Chinese tourists enquiring “scluse me. Weh is Wolf glound”. After they have took photo’s of Mander House, the Carribean Arts Centre, the train station, me having a shit on the bog in the Billy Wright and the mon on the oss.
Sad to see KMac go. He’s a fine player on his day. Good luck for the future Kev and thanks for injecting some cultured footie into our lives.
Pleased I went to Crewe last week and got to see KMac in gold and black for the last time, he may have had a few off days but on a good day he was sublime, particularly some of his long passes. Not sure who is making the decisions and letting him go but I hope this means replacements a plenty just around the corner.
As for Kenny, despite the many good days in League 1, I cannot forgive him for last season; at times he seemed as clueless as Roy H and the football was the worst we have experienced in many years. He obviously has many supporters still but when was the last time you heard the ‘Kenny Jacket’s Barmy Army’ chant in the South Bank?
He has proved to be a ‘Yes man’ and more irritating than his lack of tactical know-how last season was his pre and post match comments which increasingly became just the same meaningless words whatever happened on the pitch.
‘Change is inevitable’ and ‘Everybody resists change’ were two famous quotes from Edwards Deming, the guy who turned round the Japanese motor industry – change is happening and it needs to continue in all aspects of the way WWFC approach what they do both on and off the pitch.
October First
Mark it in your calendars
Wolves v Norwich
Wonder if that fat fuck dare show his greasy face
If he does, give him the right round of fucks he deserves, without reservation, he can cause us no more harm, the bastard.
Hope he cant sell his house as well
McDonald going is a loss .
Something tells me that We must have players ligned up don’t you think ?
Yes, that’s what I am thinking !
Monday’s press conference will hopefully shed some light on the current situation and clarify a few things,
Is Steve Bruce’s departure from Hull a coincidence or is there more to it?
Was the rumour the other week about David Moyes accurate ?
Or will the new owners stick with KJ?
Let’s hope they sort something out soon because it’s getting pretty damn close to the start of the season and we only have one signing so far.
It’s interesting that McDonald has departed. I would be surprised if they have left him go without lining up a suitable replacement. Disappointed he has gone because on his day he was head and shoulders above anything we have had for a long time. Good luck to him.
Monday will be an interesting day
Maybe I should put a few $ on Steve Bruce being hired over the weekend.
IMO his resignation today of all days is more than coincidence. Steve wanted the job last time round. Can you just imagine where we might be now if those fools had got their fingers out.
Costa Rica, if Bruce had come back then, we would probably still be under the “stewardship” of
greasel and rudolph, with no investment on the horizon.
And for the same reasons that Bruce has quit Hull today, he would have walked away from us and we would be hugely worser off.
A little concerned that k Mac has gone because who sanctioned the move , surely the new guy would want to see all the current squad ! Kj was the only one at the club who felt we were better off without him in the team last year so this looks like kj is staying ! Also there would appear to be no advantage for moxey to offload him now either !
Very strange really , unless he just wanted out and in that case good ridence , anyway roll on Monday Utw
If anyone feels a little saddened by the takeover as we have joined the foreign owned money brigade – and despite my euphoria I too have had a few pangs of regret – just think on this. Unless you are in the Premier League you are nothing. Certainly in the eyes of the national media. Stories of our takeover have been few and far between. Try looking at any of the major websites like Sky or the BBC and we barely get a mention.
Also to put it all into perspective Man Utd are spending almost 4 times what it cost to buy us on one player. His wages will mean he will earn more in less than 3 years than it cost to buy us!
It really was a case of now or never and the old saying about if you can’t beat them then join them never rang so true. 14 of the 20 PL clubs are foreign owned – 70% – and now 11 of the 24 Championship clubs are also foreign owned. Sad but further evidence that money rules nowadays. Unless you have a rich owner you are stuffed, you are nowhere. The sort of wealth required is not found in the UK anymore but in Russia, USA, the Middle East and China.
Each year the gulf between the PL and the rest widens. In a few years that gulf will be virtually unbridgeable thanks to the new TV deal guaranteeing every PL club £180m a year. We had to do it and now we have to get up and soon. I out my faith in the new owners to understand all of that. To understand that if they spend big and spend wisely and bring in the right manager and players then their £30m to buy the club could be multiplied by 6 in 12 months time. Not a bad profit!
Up the Wolves!
P.S. off to my eldest son’s stag do in that London today so my glass might be half empty a few times as I toast the departure of Moron and Toxic!
I totally agree Bedford we’ve got to be among them and join the club..
4th richest owners in football sounds good to me ..
I now have a theory that Moxey delighted in an almost mercenary statement ‘(£20-£30M in two years)’ knowing some of the fans potential disappointment, I just can’t believe that Fosun wouldn’t do whatever’s necessary to get us there and that inc the right manager too and incidentally Ground improvements and upgrades..
Chinese culture is based on pride not loosing face..I should know I have had a Chinese wife for 14 years..
We now have the money and ambition even Mendes with some luck ..Monday is such an event I just hope all the pertinent Q will be asked so we can get behind the team and totally rape the championship ..
Personally I hope jackett stays, I think that he’s the only manager that I would trust to get value from a £20 million pound budget. The majority of his signings on a shoestring have turned out well (even Ferguson signed a few donkeys) and his bigger money signings have generally improved in value. Last thing we need is another golden tit generation.
In my opinion (underlined), the departure of K Mac is a strong indication that Jackett is staying as manager. Chatting to Kenny last week, K Mac was going nowhere, he’d had some offers but he was determined to stay and fight for his place because he loved Wolves. K Mac could have been viewing the takeover as an opportunity for a new start under a new manager. To decide to leave so soon after the deal is done seems to point to Kenny staying on, a situation he would have struggled with. The players will have probably been given some details of the new setup on Thursday and/or Friday so for KMac to make an instant decision to exit seems to suggest that Jackett stays and his footballing opportunities would remain limited. Very disappointed to see such a naturally gifted player leave, I’m sure he’ll do very well at Fulham.
Just woken up to the news that the road to Dover is jam packed for miles.
Apparently there’s a big hold up on the A11 to Norwich as well.
An abnormally wide load.
Can’t think what that is!!
Bruce it is then…#moyes at Sunderland
The plot thickens..

If as I’m expecting our new owners will Not spend Big on Quality experienced players. Instead we will try getting young players on the cheap. I wouldn’t keep kj as manager my choices are Chris Coleman 1st or Steve Bruce. I feel kj would do a great job with the under 21s and I’d offer him this job. Whoever is the manager he will require major financial backing. Our squad is threadbare and Every Wolves fan knows this . My prediction for the coming season with little financial support for the Manager if things stay as they are at present . We will be lucky finishing between 13th – 16th at best.
