I want Sam Allardyce to be the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
As do 68% of supporters according to the E&S Poll at the time of writing.
He is the popular choice, the most qualified of the likely candidates and (as is my understanding), available and ready to go.
Lets be honest here, if the objective is success in anything close to the short term, there is no better horse to back.
To go with another experimental choice at this point in the season would be suicidal, so the likes of Marco Silva and Willy Sagnol should immediately be disregarded.
They may have achieved a level of success in Greece, Portugal and France respectively, but they don’t know the Championship.
Returning to square one with another coach who has to learn what the league is all about before working out how to win isn’t an appetising prospect.
Domestically, it’s hard to imagine Steves Cotterill or Evans making the fan base believe better times lie ahead.
The likes of Zola, Sherwood and Pearson might excite different sections but all would arrive with chequered CVs at best.
No, only Big Sam has the credentials, track record and personality to transform our motley crew into something credible.
He stands head and shoulders above the rest of the field.
Presumably those opposing his appointment would cite recent transgressions off the field as a reason to look elsewhere.
My own moral compass landed on the verdict that it was right he left his position with England, but there is no reason he shouldn’t be allowed a swift return elsewhere.
Allardyce’s perceived ‘brand’ of football is often used as a stick to beat him with, but given the choice, winning is my preferred brand and there certainly hasn’t been much of that in the last year.
Decisive leadership, a clear plan and a solid identity are what it takes to be successful at any level and only one man can guarantee all of these things.
Simply put, if he’s interested it’s the easiest decision anyone should ever have to make.

You ‘ve persuaded me Thomas.
No, no, no… Let’s play like Man U did in the old days. Ryan Giggs would develop what Zenga has started. The players fits so well to the old Man U style. Giggs represents continuety and new impulses at the same time.
Not Ryan Giggs never in the reign of pig pudding.
And without that OAF Moxey screwing up appointments we actually stand a chance of getting him!
Alllardyce would be a good choice or alan curbishley
I’d love to come but I want to sign my own players.
I totally agree now is not the time for another experiment especially were we are in the league
Big Sam would almost guarantee promotion this season
Fuson need to get this appointment correct and Big Sam ticks all the boxes
No brainier but who will Fuson listen too ????
Di Matteo is the best long term candidate in my view. He didn’t have success at Aston Villa. They played well but didn’t manage to score. Some managers need a certain type of players to succeed. When he was manager for Chelsea and Mk Dons on the other hand he did very well. The players he had at his disposal at Chelsea reminds me a bit of the players at Wolves. He knows english football and is a modern manager.
Did okay at Chelsea, but he inherited a team if world class players to start with. The teams foundations were built by another manager.
At Villa, how many tens of millions did he spend? His choice of players, but couldn’t get the working as a team really.
Don’t think he’s the man
Sam Allardyce’s record: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Allardyce
vs.
Di Matteo’s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Di_Matteo
Ryan Giggs would also been a solid signing. His experience with Man Utd, as player and manager, is experience enough.
Walter’s immediate sacking would make no sense if this was not the plan. Allardyce in now please. We have a season to turn around!
Go Wolves!!!
Made my feelings known on a recent posting. He is the obvious and only choice if we want to rescue this ‘car crash’ season.
I agree with you Thomas, he HAS to be given the chance.
If he buggers it up, at least we won’t be left wondering what if?
I had my reservations about Zenga and I also have them about Sam but he has a proven track record at this level so give him the reins and see where he drives us.
I emailed the PMDG’er earlier and said it was ironic that big Walt had been given the push on World Pasta Day, although I thought he was pasta his sell by date.
She replied:-
OMG ! I cannot believe what you have just Penne’d
That was a short Tripolini to Wolverhampton.
I always thought he was a bit of a Fagottini.
I wonder who will come Gnocchi’n on Wolves door now?
Does he coach the style of play that we need to get up to the top half of the Premier League?
Before alb@@@ get him?
He will be short term as well.
Forum need weigh up. Appeal in China, appeal to sign players, promotion priority.
I hope they thought about this before they got rid of WZ. Appoint new guy quickly tho.
Never a dull moment.
I suspect the decision has already been made but I wouldn’t be upset to see Scott Sellars be given a chance over the next few games. He’s done a terrific job with the youngsters.
This is likely to turn a lot of Wolves fans in Italy off. I fear we won’t be the biggest English team in Italy for much longer.
Gudjon and Petur would love to have Big Sam at Wolves.
Zenga was some character though.
Agreed Tim but we could be the biggest English Team in Dudley.
Not too sure what you are on about with your top half of the premier league comment,Tim.It took 19 seasons to get promoted to the premier not so long ago and we cannot just assume that promotion will be a given (like so many did after all the summer acquisitions). First job is to stop the slide to league one! We can worry about top half of the premier when,IF, we get there!!
I remember people saying they would rather be in the Championship than fighting for survival in the Premiership every game.
If and when we get there, I think I would prefer a manager who is coaching a style that can get us away from relegation battles every year.
And with more money, I assume we would be able to attract better players than what Mick could afford.
100% agree with everything said and it was what was said in the pub after the Leeds game. Get him in now
100% Big Sam.
Fosun want premiership football. He gets results.
We need an experienced and proven manager. Just look at Steve Bruce and Villa.
Allardyce is the outstanding candidate.
I just knew that WZ would get the sack today. I posted on here yesterday that I had spoken to Jeff Shi in a restaurant in Wolves on Saturday night and he was not a happy man and that I thought WZ’s days were numbered. As for Big Sam, as a ten year old his dad asked him “do you want to go to Molineux?”. His reply – “you bet I do,it is a magical place”. He trained with Wolves and he supported Wolves – could we do any worse ?
Newark, oddly enough I thought of your post about Jeff Shi, when I read about WZ being sacked.
Personally think it is connected to his jaunts to Dubai as much as anything else.
I’m not sold on Big Sam but whoever we get let’s hope we start winning!
I agree Thomas. Big Sam for me. That’s if he’s not tempted back to Slumberland. If Slumberland hire Sam, we could have Moyes! Simples! Life doesn’t work that way though.
There’s also proven promotion-winning coaches out there, like Nigel Pearson and Malky Mackay.
I feel weirdly positive about all of this. Wolves have acted decisively, accepted Zenga is wrong and got rid. This is far, far better than dithering with Zenga and sleep-walking to disaster next year.
Got a feeling big Malky won’t be top of any Chinese persons’ list of candidates
Oops. Now I recall some kerfuffle about Malky Mackay and dodgy texts about ethnic individuals… Oh well, there’s also Nigel Pearson. On second thoughts he’s not flavour of the month with ethnic individuals either.
Not a fan of Big Sam, Tactics Tim or Psycho Pearson. Wouldn’t say no to Zola though.
The coincidence that really jumps out at me though is that Karl Robinson left MK Plastics two days ago by mutual consent.
Underwhelmed? I would be.
Don’t mention Silvia sussess in Greece. Here in Greece the champion relies to matters outside the pitch. Get Sam allardyce now,
You can call for Big Sam all you want but it’s highly unlikely he will be Fosun’s first choice.
What we can expect is an appointment with Mendes influence so guaranteed a foreign Manager likely wit Portuguese roots…….
You have to wonder what the Chinese plan is for our club. Surely everyone could see in football Zenga was an almighty risk.
Sam in please
have begun adjusting my prediction league algorithms to take into account Dudley factor
meantime i think we can assume more revolving door activity come January and several Portuguese guys hearing ‘ Tchau!”
never a dull moment..
You can adjust whatever algorithms you like Marin, but you can’t beat the ‘Brompton’ factor.
Hmmmm
Last time I iooked at Prediction league table I thought I saw me in 4th place …and you lower down..and if sodding Costa had scored with last shot vs leeds I’d be top now….(and maybe Walter would still be with us!)
As I said, algorithms being fine tuned Brompton..hope to see you in April ’17 ( Cardiff or Bristol) and we can check on results then….
Like I said in a previous thread., I hope they are doing this because a better option is available, not because they panicked and are now looking for someone.
If they already have a good manager/coach lined up, then that will be a positive.
From what I have been reading, Wolves had a lot of positives this season and if they had better finishing touch in the final third, things would be much different.
Don’t all rush, I just got this email from Crystal Palace. See you there!
2016’s Christmas Sporting Dinners on the 7th and 8th December will be hosted by Wales legend Dean Saunders. The entertainment on both evenings will be compered by Palace fan Barry Williams, with Palace Legends and VIPs also in attendance.
VIP Premium Table: 10 guests – £1,500 + VAT
Standard Table: 10 guests – £950 + VAT
Here we go again. Déjà vu time.
We can only hope the owners THINK before they rush in. Probably wise to keep Mr Mendes out of the recruitment process as well. Finally another Alan commented on this site the other day. Very confusing. I hope I’m not writing in my sleep.
I’m with you Thomas, get him in quick.
I can’t disagree with your logic Thomas. Just a little disappointed that Zenga was only given 87 days. From what I saw, the team were competitive in most games but lacked firepower up front (and made some costly individual mistakes at the back).
That said, the deed is done and we can only look forwards. Big Sam (if he’ll take the job) seems the best fit but I imagine he’ll want some control over recruitment.
“lacked firepower up front and made some costly individual mistakes at the back”?
This description applies to every relegated team surely?
Exiled, whoever comes in as a manager has to be allowed to manage. It follows then that he should have some input into players, like everyone knows we are desperate for a No. 5 and a striker who scores for fun.
I’m glad the deed has been done now because, another loss and we were going to be on a very wet and slippery slope, we still might be but at least a plan to get a grip (See what I did there) on that slope.
Sam is my first choice it has a certain symmetry and after what he has been through it could actually be a match made in heaven. Those that say he just plays hoof ball i went to Bolton several times in his early years there and they played the best football i have seen at this level and i have seen a lot of championship football believe me !
Well, I didn’t think Forum would read my comment from the Leeds post… Maybe my final * point of the bottom three looking has made them jittery?
I do feel for Walter. An unproven manager with a bunch of unproven players and there’s only going to be one fall guy when it goes wrong, even if it is only after 3 months. His record precedes him with 16 clubs in 18 seasons, and stories of his regular flights back to Dubai to see family suggest it may be better for all concerned.
But in this day and age owners aren’t going to wait and see “if” he turns it round. 2012/13 is our own personal reminder.
Surely it has to be Sam? Okay he might turn us down, but at least try. As you say, an unproven foreign manager is not the way to go – otherwise we’d just keep Zenga.
Oh Wolves.
I’m in!??
That should say *Fosun and **looming. Thanks, autocorrect.
Sam has got to be the man, don’t make the mistakes of your predecessors Fosun. The man is proven in this league and above,to some extent so was Mick when appointed and we all know where that led us. Proven track record why gamble.
Did he not also take West Ham to their best ever premiership finish a couple of times?
What about the forgotten man Woy?
Woy is a top manager, respected throughout Europe apart from England where we love to kick our own.
Educated and has more success than any other manager mentioned so far. The only thing swaying me towards Sam rather than Roy is it’s on his CV that he has got teams promoted from the championship.
All you lot complaining about getting another foreign manager, and in the same breath clamouring for Sam.
He’s frum Dudlai, and yow cor get moor forrun than Dudlai, con ya?
I’m with the majority here.
Always liked him on the sidelines, chewing gum, tie askew, not giving a fuck to anyone.
What he has supposedly done wrong off the field pales into comparison with antics of others, and as the only thing that matters is money, throw some at him and let him out of the blocks, or whatever other euphemism you want to use.
A big thanks to all of your birthday greetings today, fellow bloggers, a big thank you to Fosun for firing Walt on my birthday, but thanks most of all to whatever power has helped Chalkie’s brother in his time of need.
When someone’s health is at risk, everything else is irrelevant.
Good on yer, Cheatin’ Boy!!
FOwb
Feel sorry for Walter. He didn’t have a preseason and had to deal with 13 new players. I also think we were unlucky in quite a few games.
That said, I was a bit underwhelmed when we appointed him. The club needs a massive lift and Sam would deliver that. Get him in…NOW!!!
If we get some other foreign unknown, I may cry.
Yes Sam yes yes yes……. but no no no… it won’t be … it will be that Portuguese bloke back from Greece … nailed on…..mendes does it again ….. you watch …..
hope I have to eat my words…..
I’ve just seen Big Sam Allardyce in the KFC on the Penn Road. I said ‘alright Sam’ he said ‘Wolves ay we’. Surely this must be a sign?
Just spotted him in Asda, buying a sleeping bag.
He’s going to camp out tonight, ready for his interview first thing in the morning.
He better get behing Berahinio. That’s his tactic
Fosun MUST keep Mendes out of the recruitment process. Its ok letting him unload a few players on us but management is a completely different kettle of fish.
I’ve never been a fan of Big Sam, but if Fosun are this ruthless I could tolerate him. Let him get us promoted and if he can’t take us to the next level, get someone in who can.
Struggling to think of any other contenders with recent success at Championship level.
Got to be the guy off the wrenna for me. Hopefully Mendes has benefited from some previous transfer dealings with Sam so won’t foist another foreign manager with no experience in England on us. Listen to the supporters Jeff. We know this division better than anyone and what it takes to get out of it!
Who’d have thought it, we’re back in the shit. 18th place in freefall and now another upheaval at Molineux. Me I don’t really give a damn who they appoint as long as they recognise our short comings because poor old Walter couldn’t.
Big Sam, I care not if he get’s it or not, I don’t think he is any more tainted than half the football managers in this Country, certainly more honest than the sponsor on the front of the shirt. Someone said earlier today, “it still depends on what the FA are yet to do to BS” so maybe that might be a factor to consider.
But FFS let’s get it done soon, find a couple of strikers, get Kompany and Schwienstieger in to shore up the dam and drive on to whatever the Footy Gods have in store for us.
As I said a couple of posts ago, “we’re a team in Transition” tried to tell you, but some just took the piss.
Mendes laughed at us with his Zenga Clown
Well who the Fu@* is laughing now.
(I don’t mean that about WZ, but was looking for a new chant for the South Bank).
Once again, Happy 65th you Ugly Texan wannabee.
Well said Stu, I’m with you…
Another ex England manager? That always worked out so well for us in the past…
Would love this to be the case but i seriously doubt it. Fosun will get one of their men in who they can control.
As I said on a previous thread, this is now a cold hard business decision. We have put up with 10 years of bollocks from SM/JM etc and our new owners have the financial capability to take us to the premier league and to stay there. We have had the euphoria of the takeover, the slight bewilderment but blind optimism of the Zenga appointment and the dark realization that this season is going horribly wrong. It is now time for common sense to prevail and we need to appoint the (only) obvious candidate – get Sam in sooner rather than later – we can worry about whether he is the man to keep us there at another time. OODCL
mmm..
what did I say, what did I say in KJs time too, even DG said I might have my day regarding the bloke and that’s some comment..and now hey presto it’s the Sam show..
I’ll tell you why it is.. it’s because he’s a safe bet to know what to do ..he’s in a spooky position via the England debacle and for him he could just have his status back when we go back up..
Throw in a shit load of money and gazillians more in the PL and it’s a mouth watering prospect with wages that could be on par with England if we go up..
#Mr Shi listen to the fans who know, we are such a good experienced cross section here,we really really want a manager who knows this league and he has the pedigree to get us out of it..
No crap CVs here.. he did exactly that for West Ham and (saved face) regarding the Olympic stadium that was pending at the time.
I know he would give some balance re the Mendes influence, and wisdom, and would probably look after Fosun’s money at the same time..
What better situation do we need than this..it’s as if it was meant to be..
It would be a genuine travesty if he doesn’t come and the reaction here on the blog does incidentally say it all..
But where is the comment Steve Showcase said it ages ago?
COYW
Steve.
You said all this a couple of seasons ago mate, your missus said “you’ve got crystal balls”
According to Tim Spiers on the long, long, long drawn out video for the E&S, Sky Sun is the footballing brain of Fosun amd not Jeff Shi, so maybe we need to appeal to him.
I bet they both read this blog anyway, all the people in the know do……..
I can well understand the clamour for Big Sam. His record speaks for itself. But two facts mitigate against this.
He could well yet face sanction from the authorities regarding his little faux pas before the hidden cameras. To appoint a manager we then lose again a couple of months down the road could spell disaster for our season.
He would surely, and quite rightly, expect full control over the recruitment of players and I don’t think that will be on offer.
Sam generally takes over at clubs in trouble with meagre resources to get out of trouble. That’s why his teams tend to be so ‘pragmatic’. I’m sure given our financial clout in the transfer market, he could produce a far more attractive style.
Dougie Freedman odds slashed and now favourite. Oh dear.
That’s for Wigan I think you’ll find.
I’m in the Algave as I write this and I’ve never known thunder and lighting like it, I don’t know I go away for a week and this happens .
I have some sympathy with Walt especially if has been muted they were not his players I think the clear out should also include Mendez or at least until we reach Premier.
One thing must happen who ever takes over from Walt, they should be in FULL control of player recruitment and I hope it’s Big Sam and when he gets us to Premier then if you want Jeff get a big name in from abroad, Big Sam for now though
Dougie Freeman slagged us off when he left Wolves said he wished he had never signed for us, well here’s wishing you don’t for one thing has a shit track record.
I feel sorry for Zenga to some degree, I think he should have had up to Christmas to turn it around, if we had been more clinical with our finishing he might still be in a job. Have enjoyed his time here, he was vocal, passionate and gave it his all, he had to make the best of what he was given in regard to players and time to get them to gel alas time was called and he has gone. Who will Fosun appoint next is anyone’s guess, will they be guided by Mendes again, how much power does he weld or will they venture out and appoint their own man, will it be another coach or this time a manager. What is undeniable is the importance of the next appointment and getting it right for the team, club and supporters. How good would it be to acquire a manager in the ilk of a certain Stan Cullis who ironically was born 100years to the day, someone to lead us to the promise land. Fact is there is no one out there fit to lace his boots,
What does it say on his statue? Something like:
“You only have one life, and I gave mine to Wolves”.
Oh to have someone who has those sentiments now!
Nope Bedford. For us.
Odds moving around but he is definitely favourite on Skybet.
Allardyce second favourite (fingers crossed!).
What do bookies know?
They never got it right when I used to have a flutter, always kept my money.
Wonder who they think will win the election over here?
Happy Birthday Clive The President, Secretary, Vice President and sole member (I think ) of the Lone Star Wolves supporters Club unadulterated Ltd Co. No profit organisation backing neither Hilary or Donald . All rights reserved.
I seem to recall he said the England job was his dream job. He also said below that playing for and managing Wolves was his childhood dream. Can we make his dream come true, (again)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/sports_talk/forum/1360531.stm
It would unite 90% of the fans and really put some belief into our supporters and players.
He’s the kind of manager big clubs like Newcastle, Sunderland and West Ham would and have had. Shit he even managed Bolton and is still liked round here so he must have something.
Can we compete though? Come on chairman, open your eyes, this is the playing field, level it and push forward.
Freedman is 5/4 favourite and I don’t think hardly any of us would have even considered him as a worthwhile candidate. Next comes Sam at 3/1, Marco Silva at 6/1 then Steve Cotterell at 12, followed by three at 16 (Marion Pahars, Nigel Pearson and Willy Sagnol).
I just hope that the bookies have deliberately shortened Freedman in an attempt to attract bets. If not we may be in for a long hard season!
After plenty of thought, the best I scenario that I can think of now is
Big Sam
Big Sam
Big Sam
He’s a fuckin yam yam
A yam yam a yam yam
And that’s the way we like it
We like it we like it
In fact we fuckin love it we love it we love it
Whoa …..
And that’s the best situation that could come out of this now
Matt – Bully’s do on Friday 18 November. Meet you and your good lady outside the WV1 Suite at 650pm. Dress code is lounge suits. Guess your better half can wear whatever she likes. Bar closes at 1230am. Me and my two fellow Bedfordians are staying at a nearby hotel overnight (the one by the big crossroads that used to be a Travelodge – 3 minute walk away). Make a note of my mobile just in case 07709491138. See you there!
Oh god no. We really have a poor record under recovering England managers. Taylor did a lot of good in terms of the academy. But he set up the hoof ball footprint that we’ve struggled to get rid of ever since.
I don’t want to go back to the premier league to see us get stuffed every week because we have a team of workhorses who can’t pass a ball. Been their done that twice, it didn’t work then it won’t work now.
We need a possession style manager, our Eddie Howe. We need to build on the foundation that jackett started but was forced to abandon when Morgan closed the tiny purse he’d given him.
Selling K Mac was a mistake. What would we do for his assiredness on the ball right now.
Jackett should have stayed and built the team and style of play we saw forming two years ago.
Well that was a shock, just woke up here in sunny Indonesia. I was expecting this to happen in about a months time.
We will now see if Jeff and Fosun have learnt anything in last few months, surely they cant go for another European coach with no English experience ?
Agree that Big Sam is the obvious choice if they want promotion, but two things stick in my mind; firstly he will want full control, whereas the club has not been set up that way, secondly the scandal, with all the corruption crack down in China currently, I’m sure he wont look good to Fosun. Hopefully they will concentrate on their investment and make the obvious choice.
What a fucking load of bullshit.
Oh well, I’m sure the next manager will be an instant success after 3 months.
Well done Jeff.
C*nts!
Scott Sellars. Let him step up to the plate. He knows the players, at least.
Freeman has already failed to deliver at several championship clubs if he gets the job what does that say about our ambitions ?
Well when I said we are in the shit on Monday and things arnt looking good I didn’t think Zenga would been given the gooner two days later, I don’t know what to make,of all this
I hope fosum have a plan, I want them to seriously take there time in recruiting a new manager, leave Edwards and, sellars in change to steady the ship
I reckon price, will.be,drafted back into.the squad now and I think he should
I did say the other day I don’t know who should be the next one but I suppose I wouldn’t mind big Sam
I also would take giggsy with his philosophy of the game plus we would automatically get first choice of utds up.and coming players so we will.see chaps! Up the wolves
Let me,say one thing though, this time last year we had morgan moxey running the show, now we have extremely rich owners who obviously want quick success so I’m happy about that we all knew we were in for a rollacoaster ride, so buckle up.boys.
When Zenga was appointed I said the Chinese would not put up with failure and that he would be gone in November if we were not in the playoff places at least. Well they had less patience than I expected but am not surprised.
Where next?
Big Sam is the obvious choice even with the baggage he currently carries around, personally I don’t think anything more will come of that or the FA enquiry. They gave him a good pay off to save their faces I reckon, they had realised that he was too much his own man and not a southern softy they thought they could get him to become.
Whether Jeff & co will appoint him is another matter, the Chinese brain sometimes works in mysterious ways as I sometimes discovered in my working life.
If Mendes is involved I suspect we will end up Silva or AVB, if that is the case we should be starting an anybody but AVB thread, he would be a walking disaster the same as at Spurs.
We have to get a British boss who knows the game and preferably the championship. Choices beyond Sam are very limited. Probably the only contender would be Pearson but in my opinion he has shot himself once too often at Derby.
All logic points to Sam but when did logic ever rule at the MOL.
– Some of his previous teams have also struggled with their goalscoring record. I think nobody is very surprised. As a manager he was a real gamble, and the timing for the appointment was the worst.
Exactly four years ago this month, Dougie Freedman left Crystal Palace for Bolton. Palace were in top four of the Championship. He was desperate for Premier League football and felt he had a better chance of that with Bolton… The newspaper reports are still on the internet. He was in his final year of contract at Palace.
Everybody makes mistakes but I have to query Freedman’s judgement. I hope Fosun are aware of this.
I’m in would be a good signing despite recent events .
If it is to be Freedman (please please NO) then we can all sit back and enjoy yet another season of mid table mediocrity.
His managerial record at Palace, Bolton and Forest is ridiculously similar in that he both wins and loses circa one in three games.
Why would they appoint Freedman?
Surely this can’t be right?????
Big Sam for me.
Don’t think it will happen tho.
This appointment will give us a clear indication of how Fosun really view the ‘project’…
I’m sorry but if freedman is appointed I won’t be able to take fosun era seriously again. Ridiculous appointment and smacks of the old M&M era. I hope Fosun do read this blog, you are about to make massive mistake and another missed opportunity that this club has become all to familiar with. Back into the darkness of nowhere we go if that is our next appointment.
If they appoint Freeman it’s a step backwards, his record is shite.
He wouldn’t be able to take the pressure it’ll just another payday for him There’s only one candidate and that’s Big Sam he knows who’s arse’s to kick and he’s not scared to do it.So come on Jeff give fans what they’ve wanted for a long time.
The more I think about this the more obvious it becomes that there really is only one choice here. Sam Alardyce.
This is not a choice for Fosun, it’s an IQ test, and there really is only one answer. Get this one wrong and consequences could be calamatous.
Walter Zenga was a mistake. Learn from it. Several players bought and loaned have been (expensive) mistakes. Whoever is advising Fosun is I’ll advising them, or just plain doesn’t understand the Championship. Mistakes are human. No problem, so long as you learn from them and don’t repeat them.
Appointing Freedman now will be like Saunders after Solbaken. We all know where that ended up. Freedman will be fired by Xmas and we’d be relegated. Similarly, appointing Silva will be a double Zenga. Same outcome by Xmas and league 1. And procrastinating with Rob Edwards in charge is the Terry Connor episode of horror all over, after which the best opportunity will likely be gone.
There is only one choice here. And it is perfect. For once the stars have aligned and Alardyce is actually available. Grab him now before it’s too late! He was the ideal manager for England for crying out loud. What better credentials can you want. England’s loss will be Wolves’s gain. And before anyone jumps on their soap box about the money thing – like I said, mistakes happen, learn from them and move on. He paid the price by losing the England job. Now let’s give him a break and let him do what he’s undoubtedly good at.
A lasting success can only be built around solid foundations. Keep appointing the wrong guy and we’ll keep wasting our time and money. No rocket science here. Just one easy decision.
Sam Alardyce. Now.
The rest will follow.
Make it happen Fosun. Make the decision that will take us to the Prem, and give you the returns you doubtless seek on your investment.
Go Alardyce! Go Wolves!
NOW!
Freedman would make forest fans laugh untill the end of their lives ..
I just hope Jeff Shi listens and the FA too as they would have to sanction Sam with no more of a case to answer..
It’s almost written (outside Mendes world) ..these are certainly more edgy times – what else with Wolves?
Sam,s case to answer in the states they call it entrapment, It does not matter one jot what he said or did, he was set up. That show what the press in general in the UK think about anybody and their lives.
Well folks,a new name has entered the fray in Vitor Pereira. He’s available (last seen at Fenerbahce) and Portuguese to boot! Got to be a better option than Freedman surely.
I got his name sent to me this afternoon also, looking like a runner chucked into the mix. He states “he is not the typical noisy Portuguese manager like AVB & Morinhio but likes to do his talking through his tactics on the field”. That will do for me…..
I must say after singing Sams tune previously this is an avalanche of yes opinion here on the blog..
If Fosun are cute enough and I really do think that the social media threads
are being screened inc here then football opinion speaks for itself .
Add our incredibly experienced and talented gurus to all this and Fosun have a free British football league consultancy..
We can’t all be wrong anymore than England were when they appointed Sam..
On a selfish note we need him and I think he could need us..Tim spiers opinion although in agreement said that if he did f**k it up then his career would be down the pan ..
But think about it ,take on Sunderland again or go into the stratosphere with Fosun with all that money….(.Sam….)
Paul Ince has tweeted “Take me home”.
Noooooooooooooooooooo!
A hell of a player but manager?
I don’t think so.
Looking ominous. Two clear front runners. I checked the odds at 11.50am.
Freedman is 4/6 on with BetVictor! Big Sam is 11/10 against.
They are well clear of the pack. Next up is Silva at 6-1
I can imagine the Chinese not wanting to risk any scandal if Big Sam is subsequently banned.
The powers that be, or think they are the powers, have taken a ridiculously long time in deciding if they have the authority to stop a person earning a living at his chosen profession.
They dont own the sport.
IF Sam screwed up, and its a big IF, then surely a fine and the sack is all they can do to him?
I say sign him up, because of all his positive qualities, and damn the torpedoes!!
Jeff, if you are reading this, listen to the fans, who only have the best interests of their club at heart, not to an outsider, who only has the interests of his wallet at heart.
Have to agree with you Clive. Sign Sam!
Freedman would be just another gamble, like Connors, Solbakken, Saunders and Zenga.
87 days was hardly enough to settle in to a new team and start achieving results.
I wasn’t a big fan of WZ but still think he deserved a chance to turn it around.
Most games we played really competitively, and we were unlucky in a few games, but still whoever they appoint better be good to fix up the mess.
Up the wolves!!
Has anyone else noticed that Butti has gone as well according to the E&S. To my mind this points in one direction only.
Big Sam if appointed would theoretically have been reporting to Butti. We know Big Sam likes to be his own boss and pick his own players.
Has someone (Jeff) at the Mol seen the light or am I just deluding myself (quite possible) that it will be the big man from Dudley who gets the job.
Onwards & Upwards
I won’t be disappointed if we don’t get Big Sam.
Personally am not so keen on his way of playing football.
Agreed and the recent corruption story doesn’t help either. I think he would be a retrogressive appointment. We’d be back to playing a pragmatic, no frills game again and I would favour a continuation in the progressive, creative and attacking direction which I think the majority of our fans would like. In fact, fans from all clubs would like their team to play that way really I reckon.
Don’t know who you have been watching Pete but it doesnt sound a bit like the Wolves of the last 25 years or so i reckon.
Yes, I see your point Colin, but that’s exactly why I don’t want to see us go down the predictable pragmatic route again. We’ve had so much of that in recent years and although it’s brought success occasionally, (McCarthy took us up and he’s from the same school as Sam), in my opinion it’s always been boring.
By contrast, although Zenga has been fired, (and I can see why Fosun felt they really couldn’t wait too long before pulling the trigger), there were times while he was here when the fans saw an exciting, attacking brand of football and I think they loved it. I’d like to see us continue to go down that route.
The thing that worries me most is that it appears that our club is being run by an agent. It was Mendes who persuaded Fosun to hire Walter for sure and he’ll no doubt be pivotal to making the next appointment. Given that he’s certainly earning a payoff every time we buy one of his chores, (players or coaches), that’s not a good scenario.
If we cannot get Sam think i would go for one of the foreign contingent. The other English candidates look like a who’s who of managerial has beens (or never has beens) out of work losers or just half wits. I think some of these guys must get into the betting by putting 300 quid on themselves.
As I have stated before, I don’t think the new manager will have that much of an impact on the results unless we sort out our deficiencies on the field. And if the new manager has no say in who comes in then we will be in the same position we are in now. How is Big Sam going to stop the occasional disaster at the back (which inevitably leads to goals against). How is he going to replicate the stars in midfield performing the way they did on YouTube? Reading the above comments I notice there has been umpteen suggestions to Fosun as to who should be our new manager. That should take them a few weeks to decide. In the meantime – good luck Rob Edwards. Maybe two good results and we will all change our tune and want you as our permanent manager..
I agree.
Not to go against the grain but Big Sam?
With the players we’ve just signed?
Please No.
His brand of football is outmoded.
I will be interested to see how Rob Edwards does.
Whoever it is we should get behind the team.
Interesting comments vicsmith because surely the whole point of being a manager is to,”sort out our deficiencies on the field “.The other stuff, such as giving good soundbites to the press is purely secondary.
Well the deficiencies on the field were fairly obvious and we all pointed them out on this blog. It seemed to me that the Head Coach had no say in bringing in new players to bolster the defence and attack. That’s why I am saying that whoever is coming in cannot change the situation as it’s already out of his hands. What was needed was not a change of head coach – but bringing in a couple of solid and experienced defenders and a proven goal scorer!
Duggie feckin freeman !!!!!
What a joke , that will never happen unless fosun like watching wolves in front of 15 000 fans
Not Fuck*n Freedman – PLEASE.
Yes no brainier it has to be Big Sam. If we went for someone else I’d want someone like David Wagner currently pulling up trees at Huddersfield.
Dougie Freedman no way but history has a repeating itself ring around this club. He’d be Dean Saunders the 2nd.
If Fosun want success they have to appointment a proper Manager. Only Big Sam on the list fits that bill.
On the Zenga sacking well Fosun should have given KJ a go. My heart sank when Zenga was appointed, but was willing to give him a chance. Managers should get a year at least but Zenga with his Dubai shuttles, his erratic team picks & tactics took us too near the drop zone. He had to go. Fosun said they wanted to be smart! Now is the time to show their smartness. Big Sam or David Wagner. Appoint unproven or tarnished goods, then watch attendances plummet. This team has got talent but it needs badly sorting out.
There’s plenty of good German managers available. Problem is most of them are what they call ‘fire brigade’ managers – the sort you appoint when you are slipping towards the relegation zone and theres only 12 matches left.
In the vain hope that Jeff Shi reads this blog and takes notice of what fans say let me just the following;
If the Club really is serious about promotion and becoming a force again in English and European football then right now there is only one appointment that can be made. Sam Allardyce.
We do not want small time people like Dougie Freedman.
We do not want serial losers like Paul Ince.
We do not want some highly thought of, up and coming foreign coach who has no experience of England, English football or the Championship. Athens or Lisbon on a balmy September afternoon is not the same as Wigan or Burton on a freezing cold Tuesday night in February.
We want grit and experience. We want someone with the nouse and know how to complement our highly skilful foreign players and mould them into an effective force. Personally I do not think we are too far away from being a great side. Certainly we are leaps and bounds above the dross served up last season.
Please Me Shi – appoint Sam Allardyce. You know it makes sense.
P.S. Tony Pulis could be in the frame. Apparently he’s bored at Albion and wants to try his hand at something different. Football.
It’s also possible we will take on a manager in a current job, not just those out of work.
Big Sam, wherever you may be Come on back home to the Black Country, You can catch the number 1 Up by the art gallery And in just half hour Um in sunny Dudley —————————- a couple of bursts of that song at Blackburn on telly could clinch it…………
I think we were suffering delusions of grandeur when we were linked with lupeedoo, silva and avb. So it was told when bam! zenga beamed up. Probably going to be same again, plenty of links to big names then 3 weeks later, some no mark from a 2nd rate foreign league arrives. Lets enjoy our delusions for a while longer.
We’re in a second rate league now ourselves.
The clamour for Big Sam seems to be gathering pace and l can understand why. However l believe he would not want the job.
Why, because he is his own man and would not agree to be the manager of any club if he does not have the last say on transfers. Jorges Mendez hanging around in the background using Wolves to offload players who can’t quite cut it, is not going to attract many bosses of any standing, let alone Allardyce.
We are therefore likely to get a Zenga mark 2, some Foreign manager who took an obscure Greek side to a Cup Final 3 years ago. and is happy to ‘coach’ the players that he has been given.
I still say we are in a bigger mess now with The Fosun Group, Jorges Mendes and wads of cash, than we were under Morgan, Moxey and perm any one from Jackett, McCarthy etc. (No, not you Dean, l do draw the line there!).
Premiership this year don’t think so. Next year? Probably not either.
Its all a little depressing.
I think your post is somewhat more depressing than the actual situation.
A new manager coming in like Allardyce, who l still think is a long shot, will want to bring in a number of players. However we are already far too top heavy with players with at least 25 first team players on our books. It doesn’t give a great deal of room for manoeuvre.
I still think Mendes is calling the shots and will want to continue doing so when the new guy is appointed. I just don’t think Big Sam would work under Mendes.
Looks like a re-run of Kenny’s appointment (has anybody actually seen Jezzer in Norwich ?).
While the club is making due diligence noises Freedman’s mates and people in the know are all lumping on at the bookies. Strikes me this is exactly the sort of appointment Morgan would make and the way he would do it. It looks like those left from the old regime were also at odds with Zenga and were confident enough to take him on.
If i was Jeff i would not be a happy bunny a bold move is needed. After all the big talk we will just be another stuck in a rut championship club like Forest or Leeds. But then Leeds are a dozen managers further down the line and in Gary Monk might actually be coming to the end of there woes.
I think Mendes will back the current appointment of Big Sam for a planned short term contract of 2-3yrs then he steps in for the big appointment for the top of the PL..
You never know the special one could eventually turn up at new molyneux..
Crystal ball gazing….
Jordan Graham back in January.
Who’s the coloured lad with Jordan? Looks a healthy sort of chap……
“Coloured lad”? Really? How old are you?
W2Steward,
Having never met you or conversed with you to date, I don’t know if you are really taking the piss or whether you are genuinely a complete “tit”.
I hope it is the first one, taking the piss is ok with me, getting personal pisses me off.
Here’s a thought – Nigel Clough. He’s worked wonders at Burton, maybe its time to step up again.
Last year I would’ve said yes,but what’s at stake here and now I think he would be a liability. sorry mate.
If he’s half the bloke his Dad was, Yes in a heartbeat. George Best and Brian Clough sadly lost to the bottle, two great football ambassadors in my lifetime.
As said I would love big Sam to become manager and I mean Manager of Wolves, having said that does Big Sam want the job.??????.
I would imagine that Big Sam actually Knows Mendes quite well.
Sam is good friends with Sir Alex and Sir Alex is quoted as saying Mendes is the best agent he has ever worked with.
I don’t think there would be any problem there at all.
My worry is would Sam want the job.
As for Feedman, some is having a laugh at the bookies to wind Wolves fans up !!
I don’t think Freedman is a contender, its probably a wind up,but with this being wolves you never know.
If its true I sniff a poxey involvement.
Sam Allardyce as manager – with Paul Cook as his assistant?
Great combination, I would love that.I only hope that Our imperial owners are looking at the blogs.
Sponsored by Money Shop, managed by Allardyce. Could this once proud club sink any lower? Let’s just change our name to Greed is Good FC and be done with it. Sickening.
A lot of fans are still debating as though they dont understand the significance of the 8/11 odds on Freedman so here is how it works. He is very short odds because the bookies have taken some big money bets that he is going to be the next Wolves manager. This isnt Wolves fans having a large flutter on Freedman because he is there obvious candidate this would only come from people who know that he has already been offered the job. So unless the club has a change of heart thats it.
Just seen a ‘SUN’ articule on net saying Wolves want to Speak to Sam could be totally made up but i think this shows the social media is having an effect. This Blog is leading the way KEEP IT UP WE ARE WOLVES.
So many names have been put forward for the manager’s position, mostly Big Sam. He seems the best of the unemployed so why don’t I throw in another name as is my prerogative. If we are able to convince Sam to come to us then we should be capable of bringing out the best ever manager out of retirement! My vote – we try and get Alex Ferguson. There I’ve said it!! I feel a lot better now 🙂
Father and son team with Darren as assistant. I bet they are mates with Dougie so he could make up the dream team! I should stop now.
Over the last few years, the club has been trying to instil a manner and style of play throughout the squad and various age groups. Based on maintaining possession of the ball and thus controlling the game, this ethos has been followed throughout the age groups enabling a smooth transition of youngsters from the academy into the first team picture.
Evidence of this policy in the first team may at times be hard to see, but I for one would want to see this trickle of talent up from the academy become a torrent. I see no future for this policy if we appoint a manager whose success is based on a totally different style of play from that which we have been cultivating over recent years.
Maybe Big Sam (who I admire greatly) can play this way, but I’ve not seen much evidence of it myself. I’m glad I don’t have to make the call on who we should choose.
Sam Sam Sam Sam wonderful Sam,wonderful sam-am,wonderful Sam wonderful Sam -am..sam amm
Sam amm sam amm Sam amm
Saaaam wonderful Sam..
I’m having sam I luve it I’m having sam Sam Sam Sam and Sam!!!
I’ll keep it up Colin (for all those Monty python fans out there singing to the spam song)
Much as I want Sam Allardyce I accept that he is not the Messiah. He’s just a very naughty boy.
(Would make a good chant)
E&S statement suggests no Spam but we going down the route of British managers who have got clubs up or in the play offs but there arent any available who havent been sacked since so Edwards has got 2 games to prove himself then its probably Steve Cockerels if he wants it. Now going off line and putting my head in a bucket of cold water ( Lwl says it works everytime).
I’ve been sticking my head in the sand lately . That works col
Sandy
Can’t you see?
I’m in misery
We made a start
Now we’re apart
There’s nothing left for me
Time for Mr Shi to tell Big Sam “youre the one that I want”.
Ooh, ooh ooh.
What have they done to Ethan??!!!
Maybe it’s easier to sell Pay Per View tickets in China to a team that is in the top half of the league than 18th place.
What Fosun has gone and done is put their initial lack of success in England on display in China and now is worried about the optics.
I think the powers that be will take there time and the man at the top of Fosun the billionaire will not want another public failure because it reflects on him and the Fosun Group as a hole.
So what ever your name is…..I will call you Mr Fosun Get Sam for get the rest Big Sam is the Best candidate at this moment in time all the others have been hit and miss, mostly miss at there previous clubs especially Fremantle, that DOUGIE by the way not MORGAN…FREEMAN.
Presumably, Tim you are suggesting that Chinese optics are poorly made and that the Fosun management are hitting the spirits so hard because of Wolves predicament that the said optics are in danger of being irretrievably damaged?
Here’s one for you a bit left field…..Patrick Veara ex Arsenal genesis now managing New York City…….I’ll let you mule that one over all answers on a postcard to Molinuex Stadium WV1
What about Woy & Wyan as his assist.
Just a thought?
I notice your surname just happens to be Hodgson. Coincidence? Lol
Hes my Dad, & Wyan was a good friend to my wife??
Seriously though, it would not be a bad combo. 2 yrs of the elders knowledge then a full take over. The educational pass on could be really beneficial.
To me sounds plausible?
“IF” they could work together that is?
There isn’t an awful lot of choice out there you know?
Big Sam isn’t the answer, but he probably is the better of the bunch?
None of the names mentioned rocks my boat at all.
A bit of a dilemma for Fosun I think?
Woy & Wyan?
Wubbish…
Somebody mentioned Paul Clement a bit earlier. Now assistant at Bayern, but he might want to run his own show again. Was doing ok at Derby until, allegedly, his philandering upset some in the dressing room. Ancellotti and Hiddink rate him highly and I guess after his times abroad he may be able to communicate with our Portuguese group.
I’m looking forward to watching a Rob Edwards team on Saturday
One thing that was bugging me on the occasional times that we got the ball forward was how complicated the football looked at times . Amongst a lot of other sensible comments, he said how he wanted to simplify the football and work harder to defend . If he can get that right we ll all be laughing
Good luck to you rob ‘!!
I see Pearson is now being acclaimed the favorite. This particular statement from the E&S must have been glowing on his resume to make him an attractive proposition:
“Pearson won only one of his nine games in charge at Derby and said he was disappointed his tenure had come to a ‘premature end.”
Are Fosun kidding? Is this serious? They want to replace one manager who found it hard winning with another? Why do Wolves always have to complicate things?
There is nothing hard here. Nothing to think about. It’s easy. Sam Alardyce. Hire him and move on!
GW
Wouldn’t it be bloody fantastic if Wolves just did the obvious….
Who ever is in charge we seem to be tarnished with mistakes and f ups..
Surely this time the obvious is staring Us all in the face inc Mendes.
Even if he wants to go again later on then Sam could sort us in a three year contract..he would of built the rock to build on…
Comprendo?
On a side note I was down ipswich way today and an influential tractor boy said they were pissed off with Mick Mc….’the club was going knowhere’ and he could be sacked by Xmas.
Ipswich. Wasn’t Deliverance filmed there? Or somewhere like it.
Pissed off with our Mick? Ungrateful rednecks. League One but for Mick n’ Terry.
I see that Sam Allardyce’s first job in management was in Ireland where he won the league with Limerick.
With that in mind………..
There once was a chap called Big Sam
Who did rather well at West Ham
He came from Dudley
Was large and quite cuddly
So come on Jeff he’s your man!
Please not Pearson,please, please
🙁
On the Samwatch live webcam no sightings but he will be aware of everything going on. If he was not interested by now he would probably have come out and said so with an acknowledgement of the support. Good to see the odds shifting which suggests it is an open search this time.
My money’s on Marco Silva. After all, if he doesn’t come to Wolvo’, he could end up slummin’ it at Inter Milan.
Jeff and Fosun seem to be engaged in a genuinely open minded search hope
we can all stay onside. You can see from the comments whoever they pick some fans wont be happy lets give them some backing aswell !
Does anyone on here do the Sky Super Six game?
If so has anyone created a league for them and their family/friends?
If so does anyone know how to change the name of the league?
My one is called the Walter Zenga Appreciation Society League so I need to change it to the ……………?????????????? Appreciation Society League.
To save similar problems in future, just change it to:
“The Current Wolves Head Coach Appreciation Society League.”
As we’re trying to recruit our third head coach in as many months you don’t want to keep tinkering.
One for Matt in the Bath:
Hes Coming Home
Hes Coming Home
Hes Coming Home
Big Sams Coming Home
30 years of hurt never stopped me dreaming Big Sams Coming Home Coming Home Coming Home Big Sams Coming Home…(repeat)
Colin mate ..
If it turns out to be Pearson , then I think I may be sealing home ( on saturdays )
I’d rather Rob Edwards had it !
Dont know what to make of Pearson Matt quite like maverick or big characters. Think i will try and get behind whoever they chose as long as they winning matches i will probably come to like them if they losing they wont last anyhow. Still think they might turn to Sam in the end.
As of 12.50pm Pearson’s odds with four bookies are:
7/4
Evens
Evens
15/8
Big Sam is next up but much longer odds.
I’d say it’s not inside info as Freedman was heavily odds-on and has drifted.
We want premier league then its Alladyce to get us there. Once we are there we can have a rethink.
In the long term. Top players sign for top clubs (not us -yet), with top managers (not us-yet), paying top wages, with guarantee of euro football.
We want to get to the top. Chinese proverb “the longest journey starts with a small step.”
If Rob Edwards wins the next couple games, give him the job ’til the end of the season.
That’s a massive IF K’ford!!!
Exactly.. he’ll deserve it!! 😀
Please god not Pearson, he is just some sergeant major type psycho. Sam would be good if we could get him.
Agree about Pearson absolutely. A real loose cannon.
