Celebrating an impressive away win at Port Vale with a McDonald’s meal on the M6 was the most fitting conclusion to an away day to savour.

After our Scottish number 11 Kevin put in a virtuoso display to feast over, a bite to eat at the namesake restaurant was the least I could do to show my appreciation.
Make no mistake though, we’re not settling for a beefburger here but a prime steak, who was tastier than any other player on the Vale Park pitch – or any other Wolves player on a full league debut for that matter.
Thanks in no small part to the meaty man from Carnoustie, we eventually ran out worthy winners against a largely impressive Port Vale side, who will point to one or two missed chances, the width of the woodwork and an inspired Carl Ikeme with the score at 1-0.
For the first half there was nothing to choose between the teams, even if Wolves looked marginally more threatening on the break.
What appeared to be a stubborn insistence to make the wrong decision at all costs was the overriding reason for the stalemate.
That Wolves managed to shake off the affliction in the second half as the home side continued the trend explains the eventual scoreline.
A moment of genuine quality was required to separate the teams and when it came it was worth waiting for, as Leigh Griffiths worked an opening before lashing the ball high into the net past the keeper’s near post.
Our new number nine then etched his name into the cult hero ranks with a mock imitation of Lee Hughes’ god awful goal celebration, in front of 4,000 joyous away fans.
As the game became stretched we then unleashed another discernible touch of class, in the shape of Sigurdarson.
Siggy ran 70 yards to get on the end of a low Griffiths cross to hammer home the second and when the Icelandic marksman returned the same compliment to ‘that man’ McDonald to make it three, the game was well and truly over.

Sitting in the Railway Stand with a staunch Vale supporting friend of mine offered an insightful perspective from a different vantage point, while my five year-old’s celebration to Griffiths’ opener gave me brief palpitations, amongst some less enamoured home fans!
The one cause for concern on today’s showing the performance of Kevin Doyle, who was guiltier than any player of either making awful decisions in promising positions, or just making a mess of things altogether.
Compared to the triumvirate of Griffiths, McDonald and Siggy, he was something of an imposter who will not be catching any scouts’ eyes amid such company.
Scott Golbourne was also largely anonymous in a left midfield position before going off injured and if he is a replacement for Bakary Sako, then I’d also be raising an eyebrow.
But the positives far outweighed any marginal gripes in a memorable trip to the Potteries, featuring one bargain Big Mac to tickle the taste buds…
…Followed by another one at Stafford Services on the way home!
Highlights
Player ratings
Ikeme: One wonder save at 1-0. Commanded his box brilliantly all game, to the increasing annoyance of the home fans. 8
Doherty: Didn’t see him as an attacking outlet for the second game running. Made timely interceptions though. Solid. 6
Ricketts: Not his finest game featuring terrible distribution in the first half. Got forward well in the second half however. 6
Batth: Handled Hughes and Pope brilliantly and was a rock throughout. Did the dirty stuff better than anyone. 8
Stearman: Another who didn’t shirk the physical challenge, infuriating the home fans with his grapple-fest with Hughes in the process. A vital cog in today’s wheel. 7
Ismail: A genuine outlet who offers a genuine goal threat. Whistled one over in the first half and suffered from others’ poor decision making when ideally placed. Switched sides regularly. 6
Davis: Very good game and extremely easy on the eye. Another robust performer who broke up play and started counter attacks with minimal fuss. Well played! 7
McDonald: Sumptuous. A class act boasting mobility, skill, speed of thought and an ability to be in all the right places at the right times. Man-of-the-match. 9
Doyle: Poor. Off the pace and was the biggest culprit for surrendering possession or making the wrong decisions in promising areas, almost exclusively. Still showed for the ball and offered usual work ethic. 6
Griffiths: Cult hero! Busy, tidy on the ball and an insatiable appetite to hit the back of the net. Will be disappointed not to score after his first, too. Goal celebration worth the admission fee. 8
Golbourne: Not sure what to make of his performance, which lasted about 40mins. No bigger than Zeli and less of an outlet going forward. I see him more as a rival to Ricketts than Sako. I hope Kenny sees it the same and finds a genuine left midfielder if Sako departs. 5
Subs:
Evans (for Golbourne): Steady. Good in possession and had a hand in the opener. 6
Sigurdarson (for Ismail): Brilliant! Scored one, set one up. The perfect environment for Siggy, versus tiring legs, defending a high line. 8
Forde (for Doyle): Typically anonymous, although not on long enough to affect his anonymity 5

Doyle really gets up your nose doesnt he.
No more than my blogs get up your nose Colin…I just say it as I see it and on today’s performance, he really was poor.Port Vale fans around me shared my view for what it’s worth.
Your blogs dont get up my nose Ben. Contributing as you do is something of a thankless task and you are there to be shot at. I read every word avidly and it seems plain to me you dont rate/like Doyle. Thats fine but the consistency of your put downs perhaps shouldnt be presented as objective.
I don’t present them as objective?! Its a blog thus a subjective take! If I wanted to be objective I’d have stayed at the Express & Star. The fact Doyle is still not generating any transfer interest whatsoever (allegedly) probably adds weight to my opinion. My wife would say its a thankless task when I’m banging at the keyboard at 9pm (ooh err Mrs) but worth it when I get any comments, so thanks for reading! And commenting!
Don’t listen to him Ben your right! Doyle is a past it never was. About time he was dropped I think.
You are probably right Neil nearly all our big money transfers look a waste of money.
nearly? which ones don’t?
I agree – Doyle is overrated. When we gave him a new contract while in the Premier League, I remember many fans hailing the move as a great piece of business. Thomas even write a post in which he waxed lyrical about ‘Doyler’. At the time, I wasn’t impressed. He had one good season in the Premier League and has offered very little since. I, for one, won’t be disappointed if he leaves before the transfer deadline.
As for yesterday’s match, another great result and it’s always nice to see Wolves fans giving Lee Hughes a warm welcome whenever our paths cross.
Ben, Nice piece.
You missed Sigurdarson out of the player ratings, I would be keen to hear what you thought of him. I personally like him and think we are yet to see him shine at his brightest. I have only been able to see the highlights. How did he do other than the goal and the assist for McDonalds?
He’s in there US, under the substitutes section.
Thanks Martin. How could I have missed that. Sounds like he had a good run out.
E & S have stated that Sako didn’t play because he wasn’t in the right frame of mind! Wished I could avoid work, if I didn’t fancy it.
Cracking win by the lads and made up with the goal celebration.
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2013/08/31/wolves-turn-down-nottingham-forest-bakary-sako-bid/
Jackett said that if the window closes and he doesn’t go, Sako has promised to get his head down?! Strange one. The biggest irony was that Sako would have had a field day in that first half. We had so much space and its only when he’s not there you realise how much we miss him! I see Golbourne as a replacement for Ricketts if anything as he is more mobile. However if sako bails, I can foresee the club dressing him up as a bonafide left mid. I’m sure he’ll do well for us. Just a bit more conservative than Bakary on first impression. Hope his injury isn’t serious btw as we will need him! Still think we’re 3 players light. That’s not being greedy either, just realistic with the rough and tumble of a 46 game campaign.
Yes! if we can keep Sako and play Sigurdarson instead of Doyle we have a tip top team, even by championship standards. McDonald is a type of player we’ve missed for a long time. The team is performing better and better, and the quality and depth of the squad should give us a clear advantage in the race for the title. I’m concerned we’re going to lose Sako, but also relieved to hear that he will honour his contract if no one meets wolves valuation.
We need to hold onto Sako. He’s the sort of player we will need in the championship – I beileve we will go up at the first time of asking. We need to think long term which is something we haven’t done for some time.
Great result again yesterday.
I too hope Goldborne hasn’t been brought in to replace Sako.
Wouldn’t bet against Sako going out on loan if he isn’t sold. Think this one may be about wages but hope I am wrong.
What they say is one thing, what they mean is another. They didn’t want to risk him getting injured and ruining any sale they may be able to make.
I wouldn’t take the comment about his head not being into it as anything but an excuse not to risk injury and it was probably the team’s call.
For me, a player being ‘mentally not right’ smacks of his agent lurking in the background trying to get some transfer activity going…
As there arent many other comments around (crap of the day ?). Yes Griffiths is going to be a cult hero, the fans are amazing, i think we will get automatic promotion.
Thanks for the highlights . Havent seen team in action for months now.
Excellent blog, especially the video- very clever! Keep it up!
I went today and thought in the first half we were dreadful. Your comments about decision making sum it up. And I thought the final ball in particular was very poor.
Good to see Griffiths really enjoying himself and the team generally seeming to want it more.
I thought McDonald was great but Sigurdarson really caught my eye.
I can’t agree about Davies though. I don’t think he breaks the play up well enough. Golbourne is no Sako. And I’d still prefer to replace Stearman. But I can’t see all of this happening before the end of Monday.
After 4 years of shit results and awful performances, albeit punctuated by the occasional bright spot in the first 2 and a half years, it is an absolute joy to once again follow a winning and improving team.
Luckily I have been collecting Wolves tops more or less my whole life, so i’ve plenty of spares cos the way i feel at the moment it could be a while before i fancy wearing anything else.
I can’t wait to go to a game and revel in the atmosphere of our magnificent away following. The last time i witnessed a win first hand was the 2-1 away at QPR (which we only won cos Cisse hit one of our players and got sent off when we were being played off the park at 1-0 down), and every match i’ve attended since (starting the following week with the home hammering from the unmentionables and including the 2-0 reverse at Brighton to send us down) has resulted in 0 points.
Anyway, at my mate’s house and everyone else here is partying and having fun so I suppose I should join in really, just wanted to gloat with like minded souls for a wee while.
UP THE WOLVES!!!!
Totally agree about Doyle. However I hope it’s just a bad day. Start Sig every game for me
Yes one way or another Doyle is coming to the end of his time. But as one of the big buys we all hanker for over fruitless projects like having one of the best stadiums perhaps he should be villified less than Johnson , O’hara , Hunt etc.
He shouldn’t be villified at all, say what you want about his ability but he will give it his all! Doyle’s a strange one though – he seems to be there more to harass the other team than to score goals
A wolf becomes a fox
Doyle goes to Leicester, while Waghorn is on his oposite way:
http://first4lcfc.blogspot.no/2013/09/leicester-city-bid-for-wolves-strikers.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+First4lcfc+%28first4lcfc%29
Griffiths goal celebration. Feckin brilliant. That is all.
Got to agree BW. Griffiths’ version is better, don’t you think ?
Disappointing news about Sako but I suspect KJ might be pleased to see him go anyway. Siggy aside there is a xenophobic pattern starting to appear and as much as I’d like to see some Latin or Gallic flair in there somewhere (and I believe we have some in the academy) I think he is probably right to adopt this policy, if the results to date are anything to go by. If history is anything to go by our track record with trying to pick a foreigner is shakey at best and but even when we get a good one they quite understandably, struggle to adapt. Probably a cuisine-based issue in most cases.
3 more points keep ’em coming lads :-). Griffiths’ goal celebration was class and Its great to hear that Big Mac played well too.
Any of you that know the West coast of Florida, and the town of Sarasota in particular will know the famous old restaurant, The Columbian.
Magic Mojitos to drink and parchment wrapped salmon to die for!
As you can guess, I was imbibing of the aforementioned booze and partaking of the salmon when the final score flashed on my iphone.
I upset several ajoining tables and their respective diners with my whoop of joy and relatively muted “Come On You Wolves”
Absolutely brilliant result.
Dont care how bad we played in the first half, although it could not have been too bad, we didnt concede a goal, did we?
Final score is all that will go in the record books.
Nice to see Peterbro losing as well.
On a slightly different note, after dinner, we wanderered around the local, ridiculously expensive, shops, and in one, encountered a young ( fit ) lady who hailed from Leeds.
When I asked her if she was a football fan, she said yes, so I proceeded to check the score from Elland Road.
Really scary.
Leeds lost to QPR 0 – 1 and the goal was scored by C. Hill…………my name!!
How scary is that??
Anyway, Kevin Porter, sorry to disappoint you, but no swear words today.
So, Bollocks to you.
Well played the lads! Not looking too shabby at all.
Great August, wasn’t it?
Are we going to wear the purple kit for every away match?
Think we’ll be wearing it until the club shop has sold all the stock.
Great Blog. Thank you for the video too. May the feel good to start the week continue.
Great result and whats even more great is the fact that now we do turn things round, crap first half and then we go for it which is great. I have a feeling that by the end of the season , we would be thankful that we were relegated,…great new manager, kids with passion given a chance and a great wolves team again. Great away support! Economically all the teams are happy with Wolves being in League 1 ! Record attendances wherever we play !!! A bit of position tinkering here and there , maybe a couple of loans and I think we will have the finished article…Macdonald….a gem of a player. Up the wolves!
Another good result keep it going lads.
Ok we are not global brand you can export to south east asia but what a great bloody football club.
wolves has been a GLOBAL CLUB for more than sixty years mate ! supporters clubs all over the world !! AND IF YER KNOW YER HISTORY ITS ENOUGH TO MAKE YA HEART GO OOOOHHHH !! fwaw !
Great result ,considering local Derby’s often end up with a draw..amazing support from the faithful…people like me (there are thousands) who are currently watching at a distance with one eye (from shock of the double drop) are starting to believe in our new manager..the 2nd half needed getting hold of …we all naturally expect Wolves to go straight back to the championship and this result is the way to go..griffiths looks like a star ..
I sense a FA cup run too..the fans truly deserve a pay back …
Great report Ben thanks. Its great to have a number of different players able to put the ball in the pack of the net, gives you more flexibility. McDonald looking a good bit of business. Does make you wonder where we would be had Griffiths been recalled last season though!!!!! Another welcome 3 points lets keep it going.
Really? THAT is how Lee Hughes celebrates? Bloody hell!
Who cares about him though, four wins on the bounce, still unbeaten and we are playing some seriously good stuff here! I can’t remember losing – is that normal??
Great write up as usual Ben.
For what it’s worth i largely share your view on Doyle. He doesn’t see the killer ball and, even now at this level, he doesn’t score goals. And that is fact not opinion.
Very helpful to post highlights for those living abroad as well. I’ll be in Cyprus(if they haven’t blown it up that is) where it’s difficult to get BBC these days, so it would be a big help for me.
The marks for players is interesting too. Just one quibble though, shouldn’t Ismail have got more than 6? I’m pretty excited about him.
Good to hear McDonald played well. We’ve lacked a composed and creative midfielder for some time.
Disappointed to hear Golbourne didn’t impress on his debut. I’m also worried that he will be employed as a left winger when it’s clear he is a left back. If he is Sakos replacenent I fear shunting him into a left wing position will infuriate fans and become a ‘McCarthy square peg round hole’ scenario. We have to bring in an out and out left winger if Sako leaves.
For all his endeavour Doyle doesn’t do it for me either. I would much rather see Siggy play up front with Griffiths. If Doyle does go then I do think we would need to bring in another striker to compliment Griffiths.
I’m concerned and not convinced we will be able to bring in any new players, if Sako and Doyle get sold on the final day if the transfer window. I still think we need 3 players to add to the team.
As we’re having a bit of a Doyle bashing session I want to stick in my 2 pence worth:
What I find most frustrating about him is when he works so hard to get or keep the ball in an advanced position and lays it off to one of his team mates, instead of racing into the box and leaving it to his team mates to retain possession and deliver the ball he hangs around in the channels looking for a short pass. That’s not his job. Strikers score goals cos they get in the right place, and for all his industrious qualities Doyle is never in the right place.
I do love his attitude though, and when he finds his form I think he will be unplayable at this level a few times this season.
Kenny knows the craic anyway, I trust the tiny-eyed one to continue making the right choices for a while yet.
Now, for a truly successful weekend… Come on you Swans! FOWB!
The tiny eyed one?! Not sure if that’s a term of endearment but I like!
Well they’re hardly big are they? He looks like he’s built to go at speed without a windscreen. No flies on King Kenny. Or at least not in his eyes anyway.
Thanks for the write-up Ben. Being sat (or rather stood) in the wolves end yesterday made for the best Saturday afternoon watching wolves in years!
Agree with you about McDonald, my MOM, he got the ball down, controlled the midfield and rarely, if at all, gave away possession. Special mentions for Ismail, Batth, and, of course, Griffiths as well.
Can’t agree with you regarding Doyle though. He is far too underrated by some Wolves fans (not all mind, given the deserved chants of “there’s only one Kevin Doyle” when he was substituted). In the current system he links up play between the midfield and Griffiths and our wide players and his effort is faultless.
Also, a word for the travelling support yesterday which was incredible.
Great post Ben and I saw it pretty much the same as yourself. Distribution in first half was wayward at times. Sorry but dont quite agree with you on Doyle. Admiitedly not one of his better games but he does play further back than Griffiths and brings in players coming fwd from midfield or gets it up to Griffiths on a break. It was music to my ears to hear a Vale fan behind me declare that we would go on to win the league! Loved Griffiths goal celeb in front of the Vale fans .. genius. Big Mac was awesome too (not the burger variety tho’ although I am partial to one on occasions). I’m in the conspiracy theory camp that Sako was kept out ready for sale thus potentially weakening our position .. still Moxey wont give too much of a shit about that. I’m not getting too carried away tho with the result .. Vale did hit the woodwork twice and drew a top class save out of Ikeme ( one vale fan called him “i’ll.kill.me” ) Plank. Never easy sitting with the home crowd !! result is all that mattered and had a good drive home with 2 sad Vale fans.
I think Doyle is our ‘Heskey’. Doesn’t score much, gets a lot of stick but you miss him when he’s not there.
Great result. Also great to finally have a centre midfielder that gets into the box. I think we need a target man, and left midfielder (if sako goes) and then we will be well placed until January.
So you worked for the E&S Ben! explains it all then has apart from Nash the rest of the so called Wolves reporters are garbage and certainly no friends of WWFC, I along with many other Wolves fans hold them part responsible for our demise with their nasty vendettas against certain people at the club.
I didn’t go to vale but listened to it on the Wolves Player (and before anybody asks – yes I have a season tkt and have done for 40 odd years) and the two guys on there certainly put it different to you, they were saying how well we played in the first half and then upped our game in the second half, they also said how well Golbourne had played up until his injury mind you they weren’t sitting with the vale fans.
Has for Doyle – he is not, not an out and out striker, he is a provider for the other striker/strikers and does the donkey work for them, look at his profile over the years you never know you might learn something, it amazes me how some so called Wolves fans run players down all the time, why can’t you man up and just say you don’t like him! same with the cretins who keep on about Moxey/Morgan, they run the club better than any of their so called haters, yes they make mistakes but name me someone who hasn’t.
Has for sitting amongs the home fans! ashamed of your own fans are you? I have mates that support the unmentionables – but sit amongst them NEVER!
question? someone on here said that he prefares siggy to play with griff? but then goes onto say that we need another striker to play with griff????????? so what happens to siggy?
It’s a good job the manager doesn’t listen to some of our experts regarding players – we would need a squad of around 200! for f***s sake we are second from top, playing well (not champions league stuff for some of our glory hunters) and still you moan!
HAS for you johnwolf, hilarious.
Whats up with you Johnwolf it seems to me all you want to do is antagonise people on this site why don’t you just stop using the site and stop trying to wind people up.
And as for Ben you should be thankful to him and Thomas for the great blog they orchestrated,so have a word with yourself.
More nonsensical ramblings from Johnwolf – my advice to all posters is to ignore such drivel and engage with people who know how to debate issues without resorting to insults.
Johnwolf, you are still a tosser, arent you?
Great write up, great performance, great result.
I am so glad that McDonald has shown his class.
A real piece of prime Scottish Beef with no trace of horsemeat.
Which reminds me, what HAS happened to O’Hara & Johnson?
I am starting to get really excited about our progress and have decided to grace the Molineux with my presence again for the visit of Sheffield Utd.
Have you booked the hotel yet Martin? Not many rooms left.
Thanks, i’ll do it now Doog.
A good summary Ben,
It’s a shame golbourne got injured and didn’t make an impact, I can understand your frustration with Doyle but he is one of my favourite wolves players, never been the same since he got that injury in our third premier league season, but he doesn’t give up and I think he will get back to his best by the end of this season if kenny jacket spends time with him.
As for replacing sako I don’t think we have a problem, that is if the coaches are good at developing players like forde, Evans, and zeli. This might not go down well but Ohara is still on our books and if he gets real and knuckles down you might see him being brought back in from the cold.
Don’t worry too much though I can’t see Johnson sliming his way back into a wolves shirt shaking like a shitting dog from the night before.
Back from a great vacation Outer Banks N.Carolina, refreshed and awaiting our next visitor from UK, unfortunately an Albion fan but the thing is winning in the Third the way we are brings all the pride back. Winning is winning, sure i want us in the prem but getting beat most weeks simply aint good for anybody as Albion are about to find out in my humble opinion.
Have only seen the goals but Doyle is a bit of a worry, I hope those you say he is a key component are right it just seems very noticable that he has lost his scoring touch.
McD seems the real deal though. Not worried yet about Golbourne its not easy to step straight into the team after just a cple of training sessions.
Thks Ben for a great write up they mean so much to us ex pats.
PS great to hear Griffiths winding em up its wrong in a way but spells confidence which is what striking is all about. Stick em in the net and celebrate boys.
Winning with Wolves!!! The babies are on the way back.
By the way looking forward to seeing how Moxey tries to get out of the O”Hara and Johnson hole he dug.
Nice management skills Jez, you did it you fix it!
I am sure morgan is looking forward to your excuses with interest.
Great three points away from home ,no complaints from me,a wins a win and that’s all we have to do to get out of this league, its nice to play great flowing football but as long as we win and get out of this division I don’t care how we play,i’m sure when we do get at least into the championshite we will play the football we all crave.UTW
Scumbaggies lose again! They still can’t score! Heheh.
Good performance from the lads. Pity that last shot was not saved, if not I would have doubled up in the prediction league :(.
Fancy the derby being in the championship next season?
Premier league table makes good reading today!
Great result lads,keep it going.
Here`s my Doyle fourpennorth, the man has been a hero, when we were playing crap football,he was the lone man up front(even at home). The hit and hope ball generally in his direction was more often than not was successfully chased and held up in anticipation of a team mate appearing on the scene,it rarely happened.
Maybe playing that role for so long has affected his current form, give KJ a little time with him, let`s give all of the team our support.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have probably posted too many comments this weekend but its just been reported Leicester City have made bid for you know who with Waghorn possibly coming the other way.
Just seen on a leicester web site they want Doyle and offering someone called waghorn in exchange if true sounds a crap offer. I personally hope Doyle stays he may not score enough but makes the room for Griffiths and gives a bit of needed composure .
Great support yesterday , spoilt a bit by those security guys down by us looking for confrontation especially the two big bald ones they could’nt wait to go in. Clearly nightclub bouncers not football stewards.
I felt this was a real banana skin but the lads did brilliantly. We look really potent going forward, a bit unsteady at the back at times but there is no doubt we are moving in the right direction.
I keep telling my son the best time I had following the Wolves was in the old 3rd and 4th division with messrs Bull, Mutch etc – history repeating itself? Griffiths looks like a natural goal scorer to me and I am not saying he is another Bully but he knows where the goal is.
This could be fun – hold on to your hats!
Whenever the latest glory hunter I’ve met stares at me wide eyed and says “Wolves? Really? Why?” I always tell them that when I was a kid I got took to see Steve Bull play, and he scored 102 goals in 2 seasons, won us 2 leagues and a cup and played for England. And then I say that when I got old enough to understand how the league system works I realised I’d been had.
Hopefully a new generation of kids will get similarly duped this season, and we can nurture a new crop of happy clappers and miserable moaners to keep the blog interesting.
And just for those of you who don’t follow the South Bank Molineux on Facebook, or some chap called @toddo08 on Twitter…
Lee Hughes does a 5-1 salute to wwfc fans as he leaves the pitch…he did it with one hand, the 6 fingered murdering bin dipper!!
A good solid win, pity we didn’t keep a clean sheet but 3 points is like gold dust, keep it up lads and the fans will be flooding back.
FC Copenhagen are the latest club to show an interest in Sako.
Squeaky bum time!
On another subject. I have just watched some of the footage on the E&S website of the clashes between Wolves and Vale supporters on Saturday.
I doubt very much if there are – but I would be interested to know if there are any contributors to this blog who were involved, or get involved, in this sort of pathetic behaviour?
I’d just like to know what they think they are trying to achieve and what sort of satisfaction it gives them to look like a complete twat!
Also, I may not have too many left now, but maybe they’d like to borrow a brain cell or two.
You never know, they might come in handy one day.
Another good result, Onwards and upwards we go, We’ve put ourselves in a fantastic position we just need to build on it one game at a time. It’s such a refreshing change to see our football club winning games regardless of the division.
Solid second half in both defence and attack by the sounds of things, we are never going to boss every match but 3-1 will do nicely. For you guys abroad, I used to live in Japan and I visit there every year with my wife n kids – to stay in touch when out there I use the Wolves player on the club site, it has everything you need, it’s only £4.99 a month for live commentaries and video highlights, and yes there is an archive of these too so you can catch up.
All this fuss about the blue plaque – send it back , it’s should be old gold and black!
well its half 11 and we havent signed anyone for the first team but looks like weve kept sako and doyle. that should be enough to really push for promotion.
Suppose we will find out how committed Sako is, and whether or not is head is affected.
Also interesting to see that of the 3 players on Prem wages, no one was interested. Funny that. Wonder who has cost the club so much money negotiating those sort of contracts?
Either way, think that I’m glad we have kept Sako and Doyle – think we should pay the other twqo off. But then its quite nice to think their ego’s should have taken a hammering. But if I was on £40K a week, that would cushion the blow!!
Glad to see Sako and Doyle are still at wolves now looks a solid squad.
Delighted Sako and Doyle have stayed.
I felt that we still need a bit of cover in central defence.
Odd that Margreitter was never going to figure this season . . . . . . . but guess we always have Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s got no squad number so we couldn’t play him if we wanted to. Thank god!!
I’m just hoping they cancel his contract by mutual consent so he’s not a drain on funds. Part of me thinks he’s just going to sit on his fat arse, drink and sit out his contract and never play football again
And there are them that say he hasn’t played football since he first pulled on a Wolves shirt!!
Cynic?
Me?
Nah !!!
I think you’ll find he did have one good game ……………….. just trying to think of the one!!
I’m baffled by the number of posters who are glad Doyle stayed. What does he do to justify £40000 a week in any division never mind league 1. He’s a striker who does not score goals. All he can offer is to “work tirelessly”. If we could have offloaded him it would have allowed us to bring someone else in at a fraction of the wages, been just as effective and maybe score some goals.
Totally agree. We need goals not work-rate esp in this Division
Whatever the feeling about Doyle’s value to the club:-
I might be wrong but wasn’t there a clause in his contract that halved his salary if we got relegated from the Premiership?
I would think that it would still apply in Division 1 so whatever he’s earning it certainly won’t be 40K a week.
That will be what he’s after to move to a Prem Club, but not what he’s costing us.
I understand he’s the exception. The local Leicester rag claim Wolves and Leicester agreed a deal. He was happy to go but wouldn’t accept a cut in salary. But even if he was “only” on £10000 per week for me he is still not worth it. I repeat, he’s a striker who doesn’t score and doesn’t look like scoring.
I dont get to see enough games over here anymore to have an opinion on Doyle. I used to like the guy and still think he is a good guy. But that only goes so far…………….. His lack of goals speaks for itself especially now we are popping em in.
I always saw him as what I call a sniffer someone who needed to feed of a a big guy who could knock em down for him to tuck away. For sure he has not had anyone like that since Fletcher, but from what I have seen he seems to have lost that skill.
I will defer to opinion of you guys who see him every week.
Whats the latest on the O’Hara , Johnson saga all seems very quiet. Has it become a waiting game to force them to accept a reasonable buy out.
Wriggle out of this one Jez.
Got to say winning is great whatever the level. Especially with Albion crapping out he he.
W ith our current youngsters doing all they can to prove they should play
E very game, it makes me smile to see so much change in such a short space of time.
A bit of me at the start of the season felt that we would not be able to get rid of the real
M ess we found ourselves in, yet here we are in 2nd spot having not lost a game so far.
W e mustn’t get too excited though, as we still have a very long way to go and I feel we will
O nly be able to judge what the outcome can be nearer Christmas time. I have been
L istening to a few friends of mine who judge us as Champions already. I see their point of
V iew but still feel it is too early to make that call. I feel there is still some way to go to
E nsure we have a very successful campaign, and by that I mean promotion. We are not as
S harp as we need to be and should be finishing teams off a lot easier.
A mazing as our position may be we still have a lot of work to do, but I honestly believe our
Y oungsters, supported by our experienced players, can get it right and make this happen.
W e all are shouting about Doyle and Sako. IMO Doyle is an “attacking midfielder” who works
E xtremely hard – glad he stayed. Sako is key to our wide play – glad he stayed. UTW/FOWB
