Some results seem obvious in hindsight and this defeat slots snugly into that category.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true and a 14 point lead over Peterborough sounded bloody marvelous to me.
As it is, Posh have clawed back valuable ground, whilst Orient’s useful late point was enough to again usurp Wolves from the summit.
That’s more like the real world.
Still, Kenny Jackett can reflect on some poor fortune and missed opportunities as Wolves finally surrendered their undefeated away record.
Mark Little opted to catch a Sako cross early on, which somehow failed to suitably convince the ideally placed referee that a penalty should be awarded. Kenny probably knew what destiny had in store from the point on.
In a scrappy game of few chances, Sako was the major threat, bursting into good positions but never quite finding the right final ball.
Posh struggled for invention, but struck the one decisive blow. It was a well hit free-kick from Michael Bostwick, but the sight of a scattering wall is something that will no doubt feature prominently in Monday’s postmortem.
Carl Ikeme’s been saving shots like that all season, which have often been the difference between victory and disappointment. A victim of his own high standards, he might feel he could have kept it out.
The defeat is a painful one, but with a two week gap to regroup and a formidable six point barrier still providing top two comfort, things could be worse.
What’s important is that one bad result, from a game that could have drifted either way, doesn’t turn into a slump.
A repeat of the 11-game unbeaten run that followed our last league defeat to Walsall would do nicely.
But even without the gift of hindsight, that’s probably optimistic.

Disappointing result by all accounts, just watched your match viewing, seems it was a stonewall peno,he must have been got at not to award that one,but we had done enough to at least got the draw, equal top still so can’t really complain. It was gonna happen sometime.
Pitty we didn’t get that striker we needed.UTW
got to be more ruthless, want it more
The trouble is Cliff with who ?still think we should have got someone in before the window shut.
true so true, this club must get to the premier league,
where it belongs
Hi to all you Wolves fans from a Posh fan. Just thought I would give a quick plug for my weekly sports podcast I do as I have a Wolves fan on this week. It also covers a bit of general sport to, with a few lighter sections as well, this week it’s football related Christmas presents. I do the show with a disabled lad with a slight speech impediment but he’s a top lad with a massive sporting knowledge and enjoy a good laugh producing the show. Any support you could give us by listening would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

Down to earth with a bump but not the end of the world you’d say. Never going to win every game in this league.
KJ seemed concerned with the inability of the forwards to go direct on goal. From the highlights you’d wish Sako would just look up sometimes & find a player in a better position than him to score.
The key thing though is we’re at the summit almost & 6 points ahead of the chasing pack. I read a report that said McDonald had a good game in the middle of the park, thats good as he should be a key player for us.
Just need some goals & decisive interventions from the front men. Siggy & Cassidy never seem to do it for us do they?
Agree with Kenny we have got to stay positive but disappointed nevertheless. Not only given Peterborough hope but Brentford and Preston also took a step closer. In recent weeks the goals have been drying up and this needs addressing.
ALL I WANT FROM XMAS IS A STRIKER…FULL STOP
Hoping that Dave Jones sacking by Sheff Wed doesn’t mean that RJ’s loan will be terminated and he has to return to Molineux.
That’s a very interesting (and almost too horrible to think about) point you’ve made there WJ.
Just when things were going so well.
A Derby supporting friend saw RJ being useless in their easy recent defeat of Wednesday. He was probably on his way back anyway. Be afraid!!
Poor performance and two weeks to stew over it. I posted last week that I was concerned that we have had so many unconvincing performances this season and sounds like yesterday was another one but the difference being we didn’t get the rub of the green as we have had in some games. It is clear that another striker is needed – anyone else feel that Griffiths isn’t quite the player we thought he was? Is he going to be able to carry us through the season? I doubt it as he is not clinical enough. A target for January needs to be identified now and M and M must support KJ in bringing him in at whatever cost.
Is SEB still training with us? Could be worth a punt for 6 months if he is. He will score goals at this level
Couldn’t get tickets for this one.. Glad I didn’t.
Listening to the commentary paint drying comes to mind.
Seems we thought we could win the game by just shooting from 35 yards out at any angle..
Did the false dawn of Tuesday night go to their heads ?
It was clear that Tramere put all their efforts into the Coventry game they surrended the 3 points to us.
This is the business end of the season. We need to show more in front of goal.
Roger johnson gets another manager the sack. I wonder how many managers he has been through. He has made a lot of money off the back of one good season with bham (in which they got relegated). Please please do not come back to wolves. We have danny batth from brierley hill.
Shame to have lost but six points ahead of 3rd is still a very very good position for us! Here’s to bouncing back quickly!
how on earth has he not given a peno for that
It’s hard to critisize when we’re top with a 6 point gap with the third placed team .. BUT .. This is wolves all over. It’s so frustrating that we didn’t do more to work their keeper and win a game that probably could have gone either way. It’s clear to most that we are light up front and it’s frustating to see that we chose to stay with the current squad. Probably Moxeys decision! Sure there are budgets but we don’t have any real strength in depth/firepower on the bench.Thisvarea needs to be addressed quickly or the points cushion will soon go. Gutted and annoyed in a big way.
Although a loss is always disappointing, I see nothing to worry about here. We’re not going to win them all, and this was one of those games when perhaps lady luck looked the other way. We’ve certainly had our fair share of results going our way so we cannot exactly complain.
This game sounded like it had 0-0 written all over it from what I heard and it looked like at least a point would be ours if it wasn’t for Mr Stearman’s gift to the opposition. What can I say; it’s not the first time he’s gifted the game to the opposition, and I have no doubt the guy will continue to do so. He’s never been Mr Reliable has he? I’d like to see Doherty back at right back and Ricketts in the center with Baath, with Golbourne on the left.
But it’s all good. Few points dropped, but still up there to continue our push. We’ll put it right next game.
Go Wolves!
Let’s not forget that Peterborough are, on paper, one of the strongest teams in the division having been relegated with us.
That, and the fact that teams will raise their game to play us doesn’t fill me with dread for the rest of the season following this defeat.
The penalty that never was would potentially have changed the game, so this was not a drubbing by any means.
2 weeks now to rest, come back refreshed, and bounce back.
I think we’ll be OK.
The next 2 games will be critical to us 4 points needed to make Xmas a happy one… Sako very senior at Peterborough today ….
This is a home report from the Ipswich Telegraph,
“Posh ultimately emerged victorious thanks to a late strike from a free-kick by skipper Michael Bostwick and because referee Bobby Madley – who had sat on the sidelines for the previous fortnight following a terrible penalty decision in a Premier League game – failed to award a rather blatant spot-kick in favour of Wolves in the sixth minute.
Mark Little virtually caught Bakary Sako’s deep right-wing cross and walked out of the penalty area with the ball tucked under his arm, but Madley, who may well have a background in rugby union, spread his arms out wide and waved play on”
Says it all and explains why the twat, sorry ref, bottled it.
We were unlucky, didn’t deserve to lose but shit happens. I agree we do need a new striker but don’t point the finger at the man who’s already scored 12. I’d say he’s doing his bit.
No team wins them all. Don’t panic, we’re doing fine.
Well said Martin.
We’re not panicking yet in the DG’er household.
On the missed penalty decision…
How many times can you handle the ball in the penalty area before the referee blows his whistle?
Not only did Mark Little give a master class for goalkeepers in ‘How to deal with crosses in your 6 yard box’ (Joe Hart take note) but then proceeded to bring the ball out of the area like an American League basketball player.
Kuddly Ken is quite right when he says that we need to be more ruthless and kill off games we are dominating, so I hope he’s got them all in this morning doing shooting practice.
Also, as an ex keeper, when you position a defensive wall it is meant to stay where you put it until after the kick is taken; not scatter, or run off in all directions, like a load of turkeys who have just looked at the calendar.
I think that this is only a glitch in the upward movement of the team and I would still put a small wager that Cassidy will come good eventually.
It’s a confidence thing with strikers.
All he needs is a goal.
Annoying not to have picked a point up & that those below all got results. However its only the start of Dec & we have to keep it going until May.
KJ will pick them up & have them chomping at the bit for a win again, no need to panic just yet.
I agree though that more strike power is needed & as I’ve already said give SEB a shot. We know what he can do so let’s use him to our advantage!
It could happen. He is unattached so it won’t cost any more than a wage per game played. Surely that must appeal to Moxey. SEB could be devastating in this league and a few goals would get clubs interested so he has everything to gain as well.
Difficult to be too hard on Griffith when he is far and away our leading scorer.
On the subject of SEB, Moxey said in the programme for the Tranmere match:
“Kenny has already stated publicly that we are unlikely to make Sylvan an offer to remain with the club . . . Kenny is of the mindset to move on and continue with the building of a new and fresh team without looking back.”
Personally I’d love to see SEB given a chance, but he’s unlikely to be fit before Jan anyway, by which time the transfer window will be open again.
It is a bit of a worry how the goals are starting to dry up. I don’t think Wolves played very well on Saturday, from what I heard on the radio, but even when they do play well, as against Tranmere, they find it difficult to score. The first goal should have been saved, and although Dave Edwards did well for the second, those headers from corners are more likely to fail than succeed.
Wolves are a bit unfortunate that with 43 points they’re not miles ahead. The top team in League 2 after a similar number of games only has 34.
Well lets face it we all know that Moxey can’t see past the end of his nose where football matters are concerned, certainly unless there is a large pie there!!!!
I think a pay as you play offer to SEB would be ideal, put him up front with Griffiths and in theory you would have an unstoppable combination.
Like you says goal are starting to dry up and we need to be playing better and scoring more. Ok maybe Cassidy just needs one on target to kick start his season but its worth looking at other options such as the one currently training with us.
But it would mean paying out money I guess, something which Mr Moxey is not keen to do!!
Fatty Blake was supposed to score a shit load of goals last season, after his 3 years Prem experience.
He didn’t.
It would be a huge retro step to consider him again.
O Hernia was given a try, and found wanting, and I’m sure that would be the case with Fatso
Blake.
If we bring him back, why not Wardinho, Johnson, both now with Championship experience, and put an offer in for Henry from ‘Arry.
No, KJ seems to know what he is doing and we do not need to go backwards.
Good to see the shit slipping nicely down the table, we’ll be playing them in league games next season, mark my words.
I agree that KJ knows what hes doing, but I still think we need more fire power, will he be allowed to spend in the Jan transfer window? Ward, Johnson etc were never much cop and didn’t really want to play anyway, ditto JOH once his contract was signed.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, thats whats makes this blog interesting and so much fun to be part of.
Yes the result of Sandwell Town was nice to see, lets hope for more of that!
With that I’ll leave you with UTW and of course FOWB!!!
Having read the reports of the Tranmere game and then gone to Peterborough, it felt like the players believed too much of the hype about the Tranmere game being like an easy training drill. There was no cutting edge and little creativity from midfield, though there rarely seemed to be options when we did (frequently) bring the ball out. MacDonald was the shining exception, regularly bringing the ball out of defence and being the main agent of forward movement. Most of the rest of the team had a very average day out. Peterborough were worse, with my Posh-supporting friends crying in anguish at several bungles. So the decider was the free kick -when it should have been a penalty. But still with a cushion we must be delighted with.
KJ not worried about transfer kitty….there isn’t one.
