Matheus Nunes is signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pinch me.
Make no mistake, this deal is every bit as important as when we stunned/infuriated the status quo, plucking Ruben from underneath the European big boys’ noses in 2017.

Nunes’ signing goes beyond what he offers on the pitch (more on that later), it’s the fact that Fosun have delivered an almighty statement of intent, reigniting the dreams and ambitions of competing with the ‘big six’ that we were originally sold.
Season ticket hikes, backtrack on Molineux redevelopment, Chinese Government pressure, Fosun potless, Scott Sellars out of his depth, shocking recruitment, Vinny Clark doing his best impression of Jez Moxey – it feels like that’s all been extinguished with Nunes’ arrival.
Ok, one signing doesn’t solve everything, and the Club has rightly come in for plenty of flak (including from this writer). However, spending in excess of £85 million on Collins, Guedes and Nunes tells us that Fosun are as committed and ambitious as ever.
Thankfully Uncle Jorge is still on speed dial and we can rely on his influence to pull off the barnstorming deals of Guedes and Nunes, while the recruitment team provide us with the occasional gem in Collins.
Now for that striker and Bruno will have all the tools at his disposal to achieve his attacking vision for Wolves.
And what can we expect from Nunes?
A recurring theme at the end of last season, and in the second against Fulham on Saturday, was Wolves’ inability to play around or through defences hence the struggle to create any clearcut chances.
It doesn’t help that our creator-in-chief Ruben has to also worry about defensive duties. Too much on his plate and all that.
Ruben has been crying out for a midfield partner to lessen the load, and Nunes appears to tick an awful lot of boxes. Composed on the ball, likes a tackle, drives forward, plays between the lines, an eye for goal, the list goes on. He’s the perfect box-to-box midfielder.
I thought the days of excitement were over under Fosun – it appears they’re back with a bang!

Great piece Paddy – thank you.
We enter THE FINAL COUNTDOWN of the Summer transfer window. A window that, for Wolves at least, could have been described as underwhelming. A slow burn. Frustrating. Like an expensive multi shot firework. Impatient spectators muttering their disappointment under their collective breath as time ticked on and nothing particularly momentous occurred.
And then, as the smoke began to clear from the display’s hors d’oeuvre, the main course was delivered in spectacular fashion. Matheus Nunes, considered as out of Wolves relatively modest reach, exploded into view.
This is a 23 year old in superb form, described earlier this year by Pep Guardiola, as one of the best players in the world.
A 6ft box to box midfielder, dynamic, aggressive, versatile, wanted by West Ham and Liverpool.
Suddenly the whole complexion of Wolves situation changes. Rather than the tightly held purse strings being the impression of Fosun’s default stance, another view appears. Fosun will spend, when it’s prudent to do so. And spend big. All we needed to show was belief, patience and trust.
Fosun have said from the beginning that this project was long term. There was no expectation of instant success from the hierarchy, although that message is nigh on impossible to successfully communicate to the whole fan base.
Although Wolves’ overall trajectory has been positive, the last two season’s have seen a plateau of the initial upward curve. Progress had stalled. Mixed with impacts of COVID, changing the coach, more than our fair share of injuries and frankly, Wolves bosses learning on the job, it’s completely understandable that faith would begin to be lost. Belief in the project eroded.
FFP restrictions have only added to that feeling. The club using it as an excuse ? A smokescreen for them losing interest in their football acquisition ?
No.
There’s no doubt that Jeff Shi’s initial statement, his vision of making Wolves one of the biggest clubs on the planet, was perhaps a naive if well intentioned faux pas. It merely served to raise expectations among the supporters who had suffered decades of lower league struggles. The mid 20th century golden years a memory shared by few of today’s fans. But now there’s renewed hope. And it takes the form of a Brazilian born Portuguese international footballing magician.
So, back to the present. Two weeks to go. What do we need to get back to challenging for Europe and getting back on the upward curve ?
In short, a striker. Someone to cover for Raul and provide competition up front. Sign the right individual and few could say this window was anything other than a big success. And it will only be easier to attract the right player when they see the team we are building, the commitment of the owners and how we treat our own players – fairly and with respect. For example, Ki-Jana Hoever and particularly Conor Coady.
Coady’s loan to Everton was not only the right thing to do for a player who’d been an exemplary servant for the club. A player who would struggle to fit in a back four. It freed up the Captaincy. Leaving Molineux is now harder for Ruben Neves. With an improved contract on the table, the Captaincy and oh, by the way, three excellent signings and more to come with a genuine ambition of playing in Europe. Well, he already loves our club. He’s staying. Fingers crossed ?.
But what of MGW and particularly Traore. Now we know that Fosun are prepared to put their hands in their pockets, it’s fair to assume that Bruno’s remaining 2/3 signings will be forthcoming.
But most Wolves fans have said many times over recent seasons we need more quality and quantity. Strength in depth. So those calling for us to cash in on MGW and sell off Adama. Well, perhaps we need to change our thinking. Now we can afford the luxury of a slightly bigger squad, having someone like Traore on the bench is a big bonus.
For the games where we are struggling, where we we need to change things up, bringing on Adama after 60 minutes to play against tiring legs and tie up 2 or 3 defenders is the type of player most teams would be crying out for. And it’s where his best performances have come from. Super sub. Well, he’s ours for another season if no one comes in for him, so let’s make use of his strengths.
For MGW, imagine what he can learn and the confidence he can build playing alongside Neves, Nunes, Moutinho, Guedes, Neto et al. He’s one of our own after all.
So, one big signing, one big statement of intent can change everything.
With the clock counting down, there still much that can happen. Man Utd and Arsenal fighting over Neto. He could go.
Gonzalo Ramos looks a fantastic prospect- wow if that comes off !
There’s plenty of time for more twists and turns.
The Final Countdown, sung by Europe. That is no longer an an unrealistic dream for the coming seasons but there’s still much work to do.
Isn’t it great being a Wolves supporter !
UTW
Nice one Muttleigh. So good it’s posted twice. Talking of quality signings you have certainly upped the tone of content on this blog, and put the effort in to become a valued commentator. Thanks.
Comment of the day, From one of the few.
No Wolves fan can be other than delighted with the impending Nunes signing and it will undoubtedly improve our midfield massively but until we get that striker we are still going to be horribly short in the goals scored area which is obviously vital to winning matches and even more importantly for me entertaining us fans .
Given the last couple of weeks I feel more confident we will sign one but if it is not till the end of the window after 5 matches we will be well behind in the League so let us hope it will be soon as we need some points from these next three matches before we face a very tough run of fixtures in September .
It’s quite feasible that Nunes was sold on the promise of Wolves being a useful stepping stone in his pathway to the very top of the game. However, with the addition of Ramos, or A.N. Other, we can hope that the strength of our squad can carry us to somewhere like dreamland. Especially if we can hang onto the cream of our current squad. This, in turn, can show Senor Nunes that he need look no further in his quest for a golden career. Far more satisfaction in helping a club reach the summit than in propping up one that’s already there.
Whatever the future may bring, for now I’m basking in the warm glow one gets when your club signs a truly world class player.
Agree ?? per cent
Another important thing is that a squad with quality in depth will attract more players with like talent and keeps the young talent at wolves instead of looking elsewhere.
Certainly exciting times ahead.
For those out there that have consistently slagged off our Chinese owners…maybe buy a Premier league club and give it a try.
I’m sure he has but if it serves our purpose then why not?
Just had a look at BetVictor. Wolves are 80/1 against for top 4, and 25/1 against for top 6.
For top Midland’s team, 8/1 against (same as Forest!). Had a few punts!
For a bit of a laugh you can get 1000/1 against us winning the PL but don’t expect to get more than a fiver on at these odds. Talk about chicken bookies.
So, the guessing game now starts about how we balance the books.
Assuming we get Ramos for 5 -10 mil loan fee plus a commitment to buy we will have spent over £100 million so we may need to sell 2- 4 players to off-set some of that figure.
The runners and riders (my thoughts) are Dendonker, Neto, Neves, MGW, Ait- Nouri ,Boly and Traore.
If we get into September having sold Donk, Boly ,Traore and either Ait- Nouri or MGW ( Assuming that we need to include at least one £30 -40mill player) then I would be a very happy bunny.
Thoughts everyone ???
Unless the player is very unhappy no way should we sell RAN or MGW, we need strength in depth to move forward. The deals are hopefully balanced by improved league position compared to fighting relegation.
Cannock Wolves if we sell 3 or 4 players just puts us back to square one with a very small squad and youngsters on the bench no one knows how much money Wolves have to spend its just what you read as every one knows we have spent nothing for 3 or 4 windows.
They will sell MGW if he doesn’t sign a new deal imo rather than let him walk in two years.
We need to get this deal done and fast then everyone can relax it will be a great piece of business by Fosun. I just hope we’re not going to start selling players or it will be a waste of time. Now for a striker Ramos has been mentioned witch would be a brilliant transfer window if we can get him.
I am rather worried the deal has not yet completed as Liverpool are showing interest .Would be a real blow to lose him now ….
I feel that if Liverpool were really interested, he wouldn’t be rolling up at the Mol for his medical.
Just click bait Nick.
Given Fosun`s well documented serious financial issues, I am astounded — and delighted –at the huge input of resources to fund these latest transfer activities.
I can only conclude that this must relate to Mr. Goa`s commitment to the Wolves project on a personal level. At a time when all Fosun`s trading companies are having to be self sufficient, that so much cash is being devoted to what, for Fosun, is a very small offshoot adventure, speaks volumes. A very big word of thanks is, I think, due to Mr. Goa.
Very perceptive comment Mike. I have also used the word astounded but for some reason after 2+ years of dismal recruitment it feels like 2017 all over again.
My nagging fear is that in Jeff Shi’s own recent words we have to sell to buy and we still need a proper CF style striker. So if the books do have to be balanced let’s just hope we don’t have to sell Neves or Neto in the short term; others are dispensable.
But as you say well done to Guo Guanchang for his personal intervention if that’s what has precipitated the second Fosun revolution. And I suspect your assessment is correct.
Agree PJB. Brilliant news, but hope the emergent rumours around Neto being offered to clubs is rubbish. It would be a huge backward step if he was to be sold.
We’re on the same page here Silverwolf. Exciting times but the jigsaw needs to be completed by Nunes and a striker and without sacrificing our best players, not to mention beefing up the size of a genuine squad which is far too small.
Losing Neto or Neves at this point would be counter productive. If we need to sell find other ways (MGW/Donk/Traore?). Also the wage bill must ave been slashed with Ruddy, Saiss, Macal, Hoever, Silva and Coady all off the books at least for now,
Me too Mike. Fosun’s £40bil of short-term debt becoming due is still a huge millstone for them. So they chuck £100 mil our way? It’s relatively minor. But not for us! It won’t be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Fosun. Bit like going down the pub even when money is tight. I’m sure our owner is getting much satisfaction and business spinoff in owning us. Aren’t we listed in the aptly-named Happiness Division within the Fosun empire? Relatively minor or not, I am still immensely grateful to our generous and shrewd owner.
Fasten your seat belts.
I am as delighted as everyone at the 3 quality acquisitions so far in this window. All add value to the first team and a talented striker would be the icing on the cake. Given the size of Gou’s empire, the investment in Wolves is relatively small and is ‘hobby money’ for him. He has clearly reacted positively to Jeff and Bruno’s requests. Once again, we have shopped at the top table virtue of the Mendes agency but must never forget Jorge makes his money by churning players and no doubt his fees out of the deals will be eye watering. I’m bracing myself for departures too, we should never regard players as irreplaceable for Mendes and the player will have ambitions. The club is always bigger than any individual involved and as fans we can but enjoy the good times and suck up the bad. It was always thus.
Yes; it sounds very good news. Maybe I’m a tad pessimistic, but seeing as he apparently flew over yesterday for a medical, I’m a little concerned that no official announcement has been forthcoming – YET!!! With all the publicity surrounding this acquisition, I really do hope that we haven’t counted our chickens before they’ve hatched.
Must just do one more check before I press the post button.
Still not our player yet! Everyone needs to calm down till it’s over the line.
And when he does play, let’s give the lad a break. I’m not expecting us to wipe the floor with Spurs or anyone else just because he’s on the pitch. We still need a proper striker and a strong bench IF we are serious about achieving top 6.
It’s good news, it shows ambition and when Pep comes knocking in two years time, there will be a nice profit for us and a wedge to Sporting and Uncle Jorge. Job done.
Anyone else heard the whisper about a 30% stake in Wolves going to a Qatar based company? Might explain the transfer kitty.
How does a Qatar investment change the FFP numbers?
I could see that resulting in a stadium redevelopment, though.
The jungle drums are reporting that Pedro Neto may be the the one headed for the exit side of the revolving door. Of course it’s all wild speculation but it would fit the Mendes template.
“What Jorge giveth Jorge taketh away!”
“He who sups with the devil” etc.
If we confirm Nunes, get a class striker in and don’t lose Neves I’ll settle for that. But Jeff please don’t let Mendes repeat the Jota deal. We will have paid top dollar for the incomers and we have a right to expect a fair price for those who leave. Gestitute will be handsomely paid their shilling for Guedes and hopefully Nunes; so make sure we get a fair deal if Neto proves to be the fulcrum for this major overhaul. And if he is we should wish him well.
Even football agents should have some integrity!!! It’s not a second hand car lot on Waterloo Road.
And so Jorge please find us a class striker before 31st Aug. It’s the final piece of the Fosun Wolves phase 2 jigsaw. Ronaldo for a season would suffice.
So roll on the second Fosun revolution and let’s hope we get it right, because for sure “the devil is in the detail.” If we wind back 6 years the detail has put us in a far better place than the pre Fosun Morgan era and long may that continue to be the case.
And in fairness the original Fosun Grand Plan was based on “world domination” in 10 years so were only halfway down the timeline.
Cynic in me says that this must mean Neves is on the way out. Most likely to Utd as a team with deep pockets and a need for a marquee signing to set the fans at ease.
But hope springs eternal that this the kind of investment we’ve been begging for.
If Neves has any sense he’ll steer well clear of Old Trafford.
And when the time for him to move on comes, hopefully after this transition is done with, that should be the time. And it would be good all round if he plies his future trade with one of Europe’s high fliers outside England..
Btw I think Neto is probably the one leaving.
– Selling Neto would be a terrible choice if we would sell to generate money. I’d much rather sell Morgan Gibbs for 45 mill than Neto. Neto has a much bigger potential. He’s our Maradona.
I agree 100%. MGW/ Traore / Podence by far the preferred options.
We’ve got Nunes,
Matheus Nunes,
I just don’t think you understand,
He’s Bruno Lage’s man,
He’s better than Zidane,
We’ve got Matheus Nunes.
Please?
His long range shots are rumored to be of the highest quality. So now we have two central midfielders with excellent long range shots.
Not sure Neves is of that calibre any more, last free kick scored was at Villa and took a big deflection. Probably my fave though tbh. He’s definately lost his touch. Hope Nunes takes up the mantle in future.
I’m excited and nervous in equal measures…
A very late announcement from the club, but Matheus Nunes is our man! Brilliant news.
That said, I hope that doesn’t mean we lose Neto or Neves.
Brilliant news Dougie.
Hope to see you all at the Newcastle match when I get back.
Look forward to it, Steve. It has been a while.
Dreaming is for free…
Nunes is for £42.5 million…
Welcome to the pack ..
Well done and thank you Fosun … I know I’m being cheeky but with Ramos over the line too it would be just amazing .. so just one final dip in the pockets Guo….
Excellent stuff. But the predictable sniping has begun. BBC sports news R5 this morning confimed the Nunes signing but couldn’t resist ‘yet another Jorge Mendes client’ And Nunes was ‘on the radar of several top clubs’ as it to say there is something dodgy going on. When Arsenal sign a player is there any mention of who the agent is ? Or the fact Citeh are funded by mega rich dodgy oil money? No. Let’s rejoice in the Nunes signing. He may have been on ‘top clubs’ radar but did they sign him ? WELCOME TO WOLVERHAMPTAO . And to the BBC Sports department and all the other lazy-arse sports journalists I say this : Fuck Off. With clogs on.
Well said Cheesey.
Ay least the Telegraph gave us a decent write up.
You can always trust a good old tory rag to come up with the goods. (lol).
Well Doog, i am chuffed The Telegraph did a nice write up us. I am somewhat surprised however that The Telegraph actually know what football is. Perhaps they thought Wolverhampton Dressage team had signed a new horse. ?
The dream is still on. This news is more than Fosun simply protecting their investment. It’s New Wolves Mark II. As I said before, there was a reason for the summer clear out. The revolution under Nuno had run its course and petered out. Coady leaving was a result of that. Bruno had a season to bed in and get to know the squad. He proved he was up to the job. Now Fosun are backing him just as they did Nuno when he joined, but now with bigger money and a different plan from Bruno. The alternative was for Fosun just to tinker with the squad, to protect their investment, but that would have probably meant just surviving in the PL. The original dream of Fosun taking us into Europe season after season is still there, and probably not far off course. In two weeks time, 1st September, we will have a much clearer idea.
Half page article in today’s Times regarding how well suited Nunes is to Wolves and what a good destination Wolves are for Nunes.
After Nunes imminent signing was in the media saw a piece regarding Liverpool supporters reaction. They were “embarrassed” , “typical of Liverpool” to miss out. “too cautious” , ” insufficient investment”, “owners not interested”. You get the idea, all very familiar to readers of this Blog. Where have all the moaners gone? Don’t worry, just like Arnie, they’ll be back!
What next ?!
Even the most sceptical of Wolves supporters can now take a deep breath, smile and relax in the afterglow.
Perhaps we’d be forgiven for having to pinch ourselves . Look over our shoulder. Check our phone one more time. Then once again smile to ourselves, maybe as we brush past a Baggies supporting work colleague. Still not quite believing what has transpired this week – and it’s only Thursday !
Yes.
It did happen. We have signed Matheus Nunes for €50m. It’s not just the fee. A fee that frankly a few years ago would have had even the happiest of happy fortune telling clappers shaking their heads in disbelief. Absolute denial.
Oh no.
It’s the caliber of the player. 23 years of age and one of the most exciting prospects, not just in Europe. On the planet.
€50m was a snip. No wonder the Sporting fans are in shock. Mourning the loss of their crown jewel. Stolen from under their very noses just before their huge game this Saturday against Porto.
Rumour has it the fleeing suspect was wearing a black and gold striped top and a huge grin.
After playing Sporting Lisbon earlier this season, Man City manager, Pep Guardiola described Nunes as one of the best players in the world.
This is what Tim Spiers said of our record breaking superstar:-
“Nunes is a lot of things. He’s a box of
tricks – pirouetting past some players,
dinking the ball over the heads of others
but he’s also combative: he wins three
interceptions per game on average. He’s
quick, he’s direct, he’s thrilling and his
range of through balls belongs in an art
gallery. He doesn’t shirk his defensive
duties either, with an average of 22
pressures per game in the past year,
which is higher than Moutinho and
Neves albeit Wolves aren’t under
instruction to be the biggest pressers. He
will tackle and he will track back, he’s a
bit of a unit at 6ft, but he’ll also average
three completed dribbles per game.
You can see what Guardiola is getting at.”
So, what next ?
Obviously no one other than the Wolves/Fosun hierarchy really know. But, we can speculate.
It’s been said, repeatedly and with full justification. Wolves have been hampered by having a squad too small for maintaining a push in the Premier league, let alone cup competitions and Europe. The first two seasons back in the top league saw us enjoy a remarkable run of virtually no serious injuries. That could most definitely not be said of the following 2 seasons.
Now we are building a bigger squad of higher quality players. The bench, embarrassingly lacking experience and proven quality at Elland Road on match day one, could soon be boasting players that would have been our first 11 last season.
Surely, Wolves cannot now contemplate selling off our very own Crown Jewels just as we have made our signing of the century. If it’s within our control, we cannot say hello Matheus, bye bye Ruben, adios Pedro, ciao Morgan.
It would make no sense. The financial and emotional investment in Nunes would be a waste. A complete and utter nonsense. Worse, the message that would send to the rest of the squad, the club, the supporters, the rest of the footballing world, would make us a pariah and laughing stock all in one. No one else would want to come to a club with no apparent ambition, vision or sense.
Matheus would be back on the phone looking for a move in the next window before he’d even kicked a ball, and Guedes and Collins would be asking themselves what on earth they’d signed up for. It would be a disaster. A PR disaster. A sporting disaster. A financial disaster. Fosun aren’t stupid. It seems they have accepted that we cannot move on without more investment.
So. In for a penny, in for a pound. Wolves have to tear up trees looking for a top notch striker. Otherwise the goodwill surrounding much of this window’s long anticipated, long overdue, longed for investment will be lost.
A week ago Bruno had told us to be patient and trust in the process. We will only recruit new players that improve our team. Top quality additions. 3 or 4 more will come. Well, one has arrived. Or rather exploded on to the scene. 2 or 3 more to go. I’d be happy with one. A top striker. And keep everyone else.
Realistically I think we may lose one key player. Rumours persist of Arsenal and Man Utd eyeing up Ruben and Pedro. Who in their right mind would go to Man Utd at the moment ? Forest and Steve Cooper are still hoping to lure MGW away. Someone may well come in for Traore. Spurs ?
The thing these 3 players have in common is they have not signed new contracts. I wonder if at least 2 of the aforementioned are reconsidering that now our BIG FISH has been landed.
Why move on when Wolves are going places ?
So, sit back, try to relax, and enjoy the roller coaster ride that is Wolverhampton Wanderers.
We’re on our way back baby !!
UTW
Well Fosun cetainly shut us moaners up, for sure (unless we can put a positive spin on it by saying our moaning got to him 🙂
Now we can drool over the possibility of having a 4 -4-2 formation aginst the Big Teams, featuring Raul and Ramos/Bathuyai up front and a midfield of Guedes, Nunez, Neves and Neto. Of course as many different formations as you like are now available.
Do we have to sell anyone? Not sure if MGW will be getting much play time and might want to try elsewhere. Personally, with these new additions, I wouldn’t mind seeing Traore back in action.
Whatever happens, the addition of these guys has suddenly fired up all Wolves fans and dare I predict that Clive will score a 3 pointer in the Prediction League this season
Only one?
Let’s not be too optimistic, Clive.
OK, maybe two then. (I’d be happy with that – especially if they are against Leeds and Arsenal).
Widespread reports that MGW is on his way to Forest for a staggering £42.5 million including add ons which looks like good business to me. If that’s the only other major departure in this revamp I think we should all be very happy.
Did your lights flicker the other night?
“Another one bites the dust
And another one gone,
And another one gone.
Another one bites the dust
Hey, hey!”
great business Wolves …
MGW … 48 premier league appearances
1 goal
1 assist
35 to 45 million
good riddance.. been wait too long to see what all the fuss is about .
Cmon Ramos … you know where the dotted line is
MGW going to Forest for £35 million plus £10 million add ons effectively means we’ve exchanged him for Matheus Nunes. at no cost. That is an absolutely cracking piece of business !
Not quite Bilko, the guaranteed fee is only £25m with £10m in likely add ons and a further £7.5m in unlikely add ons, but still a great deal for a player that is refusing to sign a new contract. Seems they learnt their lesson from the Traore shambles last summer!
Some Portuguese football “expert” says Wolves would have blown up their pay structure for this.
And me … I’ve just bought a Wolves shirt at 27% discount …
Does anyone know if the Chinese government changed the rules again so our chairman can start spending?
I haven’t seen anything about that in the news.
I did read something a while ago about Uefa sanctions ending, however.
Did I read somewhere about some Qatari investment coming into the club? Maybe this is responsible for the recent splurge.
What rules?
The rules people on this site are always referencing about the Chinese government restricting how much money can be taken out of China for business purposes.
MGW to Notts Forest for THAT PRICE has to be the biggest heist since The Great Train Robbery. Well done on this one Wolves.
It was telling when Bruno criticised MGW for his clash with Mitrovic of Fulham. Bruno said something like they both deserved to be sent off. Maybe there were questions about MGW’s temperament. Also, when he wouldn’t commit to a new contract, his card was marked. We’ve learnt lessons from the Traore nonsense. Good luck to MGW but that’s quite a notch for the Wolves academy.
If flogging MGW for such silly money helps to keep Neves and Neto, all the better.
Surely you’re not allowed to flog people even when they are really annoying footballers who think flicks and tricks are more impressive than making successful passes, or assists or, even, scoring goals.
Spot on’
If someone had to leave he would be top of my list, possibly even above Traore.
we wont miss him !
As poor as the deal structure for Coady was, this appears to be the exact opposite, so well done to Jeff and Scott on this one again, alongside Guedes, nunes and Collins. Sorry to see MGW go and whilst this could come back to bite us, it has the feel of the Steve Daley deal of yesteryear about it more so than the Jota deal of recent times. Hope this takes us a step closer to signing the longed for striker, in which case, it becomes an even better move.
Could not agree more and we bought Andy Gray with the Steve Daley money.
Shrewd – having or showing sharp powers of judgement; astute.
MGW sold for a maximum circa £45m (more likely £35m by all accounts as some of the add ons are unlikely to be achieved.)
Matheus Nunes bought for maximum circa £42m.
That’s shrewd business.
I would have loved to see MGW play for us this season to see how much he’d improved. Unproven at Premier league level, it was heart warming and, as it turned out, astute of Wolves to hold on to their homegrown talent. Rejecting bid after bid. They squeezed a huge fee out of Forest.
Bravo.
Wishing MGW well, I don’t think it’s disrespectful to say he won’t be missed because, frankly, he had been out on loan for 2 seasons and only came back into the fold for preseason 2 months ago.
When he was with us under NES he had limited chances, but wasted what opportunities he was given, hence being loaned out.
Great bit of business by Wolves, but please let’s not end up with a small squad come September 1st. We need quality AND quantity.
We need those 2/3 more quality signings.
We need a quality striker.
UTW
If Carlsberg did transfers, we could buy Nunes and sell MGW for about the same money!
In my dreams. Hang on…
I never really thought MGW fulfilled the early promise. Compare him to someone like Robbie Keane who just cut the mustard as soon as he stepped on a pitch. And everytime he stepped on a pitch. I suppose MGW had limited opportunities and now Bruno seemingly has (most) of the tools he wants, perhaps it is best if MGW moves on to pastures new. For that sort of money the pressure will be on him to shine. I wish him well.
Problem;
What will the South Bank sing now that they can’t do;
Nuno had a dream
Five at the back
The Conor Coady
MGW – One of our own
Si Senor (if he’s not playing)
Joao Moutinho ( ditto)
Time to get creative folks.
Wot bored with ‘Bruno’s Barmy Army’ and ‘We’ve got Neves’ already?
I suggest you try the Portugese National Anthem, or ‘Guantanamara’.
Btw, where’d our quota of home talent go? That’s Nathan Collins then. Or am I missing something?
Un Amore y Vamos los Wolvos.
mgw would never ever sign another contract at wolves no names no pack drill but it came from the horses mouth.
No loss he was never there anyway hope he does ok with his ex england boss.
Nunes almost paid for … cracking business well done to those involved whoever they were now please finish the job and i now have no reason to believe you wont .
Things are looking up …at last
This a funny post on another site:
Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses to what they describe as being a serious mugging wherein the victim was relieved of £25m although this figure could yet rise to in excess of £40m . The Police believe that the perpetrators come from the Wolverhampton area . Police say that it is inconceivable that no one witnessed this act and so far they say telephone lines have been busy with people who refuse to give their details but simply say they are Wolves fans. A Police spokesperson said ‘The victim may have been somewhat complicit in this act as they have been throwing money away wantonly for several weeks. ‘
Reply (from me)
Lets be careful out there. The mugger is still at large (geddit?) and trying to nick £25mil for a fast geezer called Adama who keeps falling over..
As good a business as it is, MGW departure reflects badly on the club and Bruno imo. Limited gametime under Nuno, only starting 11 times in 4 seasons. Bruno allowing him to go out last season was a huge error given our shortcomings and is possibly the main reason he won’t sign a new contract, why would he trust the Wolves hierachy. All the superlatives from Bruno while the window is still open would’ve been meaningless if he felt he could end up warming the bench for most of the season as before, dropped again after a couple of below par performances. All too often Premier League clubs tie up promising young players as ghosts in their squads, as if sitting amongst the Premier elite is some sort of compensation for not playing competitive football, Nuno was serial offender at this, it must be massively frustrating and frankly insulting to the young players when the manager has no intention of using them. Good luck to MGW at Forest and i hope he realises the potential we all know he has and fair play to him for not putting up with any more BS from us. It could also be constructive if Wolves weren’t offering him anything like what he could get elsewhere. He was the only ‘one of our own’ anywhere near the first team, personally i would like to see more players coming through the ranks. As well as the Portuguese contingant has served us, our continued reliance on it doesn’t sit right with me, there are 113,000 professional footballers worldwide, Portugal has a couple of thousand of them at most.
Neves has not signed a new contract either so he could be on his way too.
All hail Nunes the new messiah. Lets hope he’s as good as he looks.
