You’ll all no doubt have a preferred choice as to Mick’s successor.
But equally, you’ll be harbouring that one name that sends a quivering chill of fear down your spine.
The man you categorically do not want as the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And that to me is much funner game to play.

So lets imagine your phone rings and it’s Jez Moxey (you’d take the call, don’t be silly).
He says he won’t let you pick the man for the job, but he will allow you to immediately rule out one candidate – no questions asked.
Who would it be?
My answer, without hesitation, Steve Bruce.
No thanks.
My reasoning is thus:
1. He wasn’t able to motivate a Sunderland team that, since his departure, has proven to be more capable than anyone thought possible under his leadership.
2. Too similar to Mick McCarthy and nowhere near as likable. Can another uncultured center-half really make a significant change, particularly with no time to bring in new players?
3. He could actually get the job despite the validity of points 1 and 2, so I wouldn’t be wasting my power ruling out the likes of John Gregory and Iain Dowie.
So there you have it – Steve Bruce.
If he does get the job, sensationally turn things round and prove me wrong, this post will live on forever as the proverbial egg on my face.
Incidentally, my preferred choice out of the realistic and available candidates would be Alan Curbishley.
Boring I know, but as he was quick to point out himself on Sky Sports News yesterday – his record stands up.
He never put a foot wrong at Charlton and has also proven he can get teams out of the Premiership mire with the salvage mission he successfully undertook at West Ham (with the help of an illegally registered Carlos Tevez of course).
And if you’re interested in idle gossip, I have it first hand as I write this, that he’s on a train from London to Wolverhampton.
Make my dreams come true Jez.

Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock – both of those are at best at the level of Mick McCarthy and I can’t see them confidently pushing us up away from the relegation zone… but admittedly that will be a big ask for whichever manager replaces Mick!
I think you should put up Hoddle as a “no s**t Sherlock” option, by the way! 😛
Curbishley would be my preferred replacement as well!
Curbishley would be the logical appointment.
He’s loyal, talented and has succeeded at both clubs he’s managed at.
I really hope the board see it this way. Replacing Mick with either Warnock or Bruce would be ludicrous.
Agreed and mostly agreed. I’d rather see Holloway, but Curbishley is a very good choice, is available now and seems very up for it. If he keeps us up (which I think he should) see how he does next year. Hopefully we’ll be shot of most of our players that aren’t quite up to snuff in the top flight and ready to challenge for the top half come August.
But in reality, anyone but Steve Bruce.
Always called for curbs. Fantastically under rated manager. I would feel very confident with him in charge. He record is astonishing given the resources he had. Imagine if he could find us a tevez-skilled player from overseas. Much better than any Irish lot which was about as foreign as Mick got!
Glad it’s not just me frightened by the prospect of Bruce (though anyone who used to put Robbie Savage in the tumble dryers an Man Utd’s training ground can’t be all bad). It seems like Curbishley is always linked with the Wolves job, so it’s be nice for him to get it once. There’s a Wolves connection, too; his brother (a music industry stalwart) has managed Robert Plant in the past.
I’m feeling very apprehensive want Curbs but can see greasy moxey going with Bruce.
FOSB and greasy.
‘Be careful what you wish for’. We should have kept Mick until the end of the season. Morgan lost his nerve.
Seeing the names bandied around makes me feel sick. Steve Bruce, Curbishley, Holloway, Warnock are all second raters. I’d sooner get Jones back or take a punt on someone like Neil Adkins.
Desperate.
Agree too many names are scarier than relagation. Bruce-no. Warnock-no. Curbs, the man has the potential to transform an ok team to good. But will or could moxy do the right thing for once
The timing is awful. If the board wanted rid of Mick, they should have sacked him at the beginning of the season or at Christmas when the transfer window was about to open.
What is indisputable (at least in my eyes), however, is that Mick just wasn’t good enough for the Premier League – as five wins in 25 testifies. That said, he wasn’t helped by a board lacking ambition and group of players that put in some truly terrible performances.
Sticking with the players, it angers me to hear some of them claiming responsibility for Mick’s dismissal and insisting he shouldn’t have gone. Had they played better, he’d still be in a job.
Up the Wolves.
Jesus Christ, I agree with you Dave on something! Admittedly not most of your comment mate (Dave Jones?! God no!) But Nigel Adkins is the name I like too.
Cheers, but it won’t be Adkins. We’d have to ask soton for permission and they deffo wouldn’t give it, esp when time is tight. Plus why the hell would he leave?
This sums up the pathetic situation we’re in. The decision to get rid or MM is reactionary in the extreme and based on the emotional impact of getting thrashed by the sh**. Brainless. They should have kicked him out before Chrimbo or stuck to their guns and seen it out. I can hardly see that our chances of staying up have increased since Sunday morning. At least if we’d kept Mick we’d have had the choice of (a) kicking him out in the summer after a skin-of-the-teeth relegation survival or (b) having a proven championship manager to get us back up.
I’m seriously p*ssed off about this whole sorry situation. As someone has already pointed out, FOSB and greasy.
UTW
Drearey Dave Jones ??? He has already proved to us and others since that he will take a team to the cusp of promotion and then bottle it EVERY time. Sorry but this bloke would be hard pressed to motivate a fight in Iraq!!
I have been a Wolves supporter since the mid 60’s but can safely say that if they were to bring him back I’d be done with Wolves until he was gone again.
Perish the thought and shame on you for suggesting him.
Curbishley is the man for me.
sigh, my point about jones was rhetorical
Dave V, How on earth can you say Curbishley is second rate? The man built Charlton up to a top 6 team (who can forget the 4-0 drubbing and a lesson in premiership football they gave us in our first premier season) and left West ham top 4. He is a man of principle, will not be dictated too by Poxey and knows how to set up a balanced football team. he believes in young talent and pace in a team and has a proven track record of success at premier league level.
I cannot believe he is interested in the job given our woeful performances this season, that said he see something we don’t as he is very keen and that fills me with some optimism.
Unfortunately Poxey runs the club and so in true Wolves style I am worried!
Agreed Tuba. i dont think they have the balls for this. Curbs could give us all something we could be proud of!
It could make Moxey twitchy, really show up his incompetence!
Lets Hope they do the right thing and get a manager with tactical nouse, ability to develop a good squad of players and play attractive football but not be afarid to get stuck in if needed.
NOOOOO – Warnock, Bruce, Holloway, Keane, Clark, Fat Waiter, NOOOOO
Nigel, sorry, typo
Neil Warnock without a shadow of a doubt.
1) He introduced Michael Brown to the game of football
2) He couldn’t keep QPR out the bottom 3 despite spending millions
3) I don’t like his face – nose too pointy, grins a bit like satan
4) Don’t think he’ll either sort out our porous defence or pedestrian attack within the allotted 13 game deadline
PS Hamlet, you’re not very good at counting to 1 are you mate? 😉
You mean to tell me that Steve Bruce’s secret identity ISN’T Warnock?? 0_0 Then who is he at night?
Since you pointed it out though… keep Bruce away from Wolves!
Surely Michael Brown played at City before Sheff Utd?
Got to agree though, he’d be my choice to remove from the shortlist too.
I stand corrected.
Here is Alan Curbishley’s manager stats in wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Curbishley
It’s just below 40%
If one takes in consideration the clubs he has managed his stats is quite good.
Sven-Göran Eriksson
Record
P W D L Win %
905 468 242 195 51.71
Roberto Di Matteo
Record
G W D L Win %
135 67 30 38 49.63
I would go for Eriksson. His stats are very good and very consistent. His broad experience from different cultures are very impressing, and could be what Wolves need now to steer clear from relegation.
Sven?!
He lacks the mettle to drag us out of the mire – didn’t exactly cover himself in glory at Mexico or Leicester, did he?
He’d expect massive money as well which they’re never going to pay.
Karlir i understand why you may have an allegiance to your compatriot. But you must remember to review Curbs stats in context to the premier league. Admittedly they went down after their first season in the top flight ( a similarity to a club we all love). But he did complete 7 consecutive seasons in the Premier with healthy finishes as 9th and 7th. he also developed so real quality players too. remember a certain Scott Parker? Apparently he’s a little known midfielder plays for a small club who are lying in 4th and also plays for a little known international team England.
Come on man, none of the other names mentioned could clean his boots!!!
Sven Eriksson has 51,7 percent average in 905 matches. Scoring so high is incredible taken in consideration the amount of matches played.
Exactly what I was saying on E&S. Bruce is ‘damaged goods’ and we should not forget his ‘Hoddlesque’ departure from Crystal Palace.Add Warnock and Billy Davies to the unwanted list as well. Curbishley would be my choice . Got the impression today that many of the McCarthy tributes today were from people who don’t watch Wolves. How many times have you left Molineux this season hearing comments and conversations about McCarthy and the dreadful football we play. Renewed my s/t today for 21st consecutive season and would have done even if he had stayed but I feel I am entitled to celebrate his departure.
Sky sports say there’s a 3 man shortlist, Curbs, Bruce n Warnock.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7521657/
interesting are the credentials they put by each one, surely not even cut-price moxey would want Warnock when you consider his record…
I wrote that Sky Sports piece, Sleachy.
Delighted you spotted the (not so) subtle attempt to guide Jez in the right direction!
Haha great work then mate! have you had any success with this (not so) subtle approach to influencing the powers that be at mol?
If so, can you have a word about the chicken balti pies? the new ones are rubbish compared to the old square ones…
Steve Bruce doesn’t fill me with confidence, but then whoever comes in can only work with the squad we’ve got which – on recent showing – fills me with even less confidence.
Mine would be Neil Warnock, closely followed by Bruce. Why are we interviewing them? It’s been proved this season they can’t do it at this level. Ridiculous.
Bruce, god no, please no.
I remember reading this after he got sacked.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/nov/30/steve-bruce-sunderland-sacked?INTCMP=SRCH
Curbs is the best of a limited bunch. At least we might see some football at the Mol.
dear lord, i read the first half and had to stop as i was too scared to continue. anyone have moxey’s email address, he needs to see this!
No point in sending it, Moxey probably struggles with the red tops, so no chance he’d comprehend what this article is telling us.
If Warnock comes to Wolves, my time as a Wolves supporter is over. Anyone remember when he got the game abandoned against Sheff Utd and the sh*t cuz they were winning, so he told some of his players to feign injury so there were only 7 players left. I can’t stand the bloke, he’s a liar and a dirty cheat.
As for Bruce, why we would even consider his is beyond me.
Has to be Curbishley, his record says it all.
Jed me and you will be buying walsall shirts if Warnock or Bruce come.
I think general consensus amongst all wolves fans is we don’t want another relegation candidates sacked manager, so no to Bruce and Warnock. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Weasel got one of these in
Warnock is my worst nightmare.
I’d rather go for Soljskaer or Karl Robinson.
The bookies rarely get it wrong!
You have to bet £4 to win £1, on Curbishley getting the job, so it’s highly likely he will be in charge, by the end of the week.
Please not Bruce, nor Warnock….
bruce and warnock will save me thousands cos I won’t ever go again. The Boad have made manager mistakesin the past with thinking hoddle was good. If they do it again I give up my 50 years of support.. Curbishley fits the bill!
Neil Warnock is too similar to Mick McCarthy i agree. Their old school methods are what got both of them sacked in the first place. Alan Curbishey is the man for me, excellent managerial record at both Charlton and West Ham.
I would also like to thank Mick McCarthy for all he’s done for Wolves, especially that first season when Wolves had very few players and of course that fantastic title winning season.
I would also like to “thank” McCarthy for the worst result in my lifetime – something we, but not he, will have to live with, probably for decades until we can avenge it with a similar scoreline at the Crem.
I agree with pretty much all the posts on here, except I think Billy Davies could do a decent job for us and should be on the short list. I would much rather be linked with him than Bruce or Warnock. Warnock has about as much integrity in his entire body as McCarthy has in one of his discarded toe nail clippings.. Curbishley is the stand out candidate, by some considerable distance, but Spurs are going to be looking for a new manager soon and they may well want to put him on THEIR shortlist…
I’m putting off applying for my early bird season ticket until I am sure that neither Bruce nor Warnock have got the job. I know I have posted elsewhere that I will renew my season ticket come what may but everyone has his or her own sticking point.
Somebody with a game plan to get the ball forward to create chances and give the lads confidence and self belief. Holloway or Carl Robinson please
Holloway tried and ultimately failed – through hard luck or not. Fact he took Bpool down. C. Robinson unproven at this level and already ruled out of the running to due lack of experience (said by Moxey – the experience part). Curbs all the way. Get him in soon, give him time to change the training regime. Of course all the wolves players sad – they were all Micks yes men and now fear the loss of a job under any new manager come the end of the season. Some of the players free ‘ticket to ride’ may be coming to an end. Not Warnock or Bruce or any unproven manager – too old/past it (ala mick’s dinosaur tactics) or too fresh to be entrusted with survival. I have no idea how TC is still here. Hopefully Curbs or whoever brings his own backroom staff in and replaces that doe-eyed incompetent ‘tactician’.
Why not give Terry Connor the job for the rest of the season? See if he can prove himself.
I understand that it would be the least intrusive/unsettling move but I would wholly disagree. It’s for the same argument I don’t want Pearce as England manager. They have been around failed managers for a long time and if they were that good – why didn’t they ultimately rub off on the main man and come some good? McClaren was assistant manager and look what that clown did with the national side. The same with TC – he has been atrocious for a good while. The tactics would not improve if he were wholly in charge as his decisions have hardly paid off as it is – hence Micks sacking,
Haywood come off it, are you odemwinge in disguise?
Get real man!
TC should have gone 2 yrs ago and given Mick a fighting chance!
Whats up have you gone Raving mad,Terry connor have a word with yourself.FOTC.
….No, don’t think so!
Funny joke, nice one.
I was going to write a blog with the headline: ‘Pick me Nigel!’
One name that has gone under the radar is Nigel Adkins, and I want him. There., said it!
Born within a stone’s throw of Steve Morgan’s neighbourhood, a Scouser who plied his trade in the Liverpool district leagues and worked his way up to Scunthorpe, where he went from a physio to manager, to a bloody good one too.
Granted I am not selling him in, but having interviewed him during my time with all things JPT, something struck me about him.
A quiet, mild mannered guy, but a steely glint in his eye that told me he was destined for better things.
Got Scunny up twice without ever having a penny to spend, while openly acknowledging his club cannot ever compete in the CCC.
But more than that, he brought through young tyro Gary Hooper, gave Henri Lansbury a platform and allowed creative flair to flourish, as seen in Grant McCann in the middle.
Now he is doing it all over again at Saints, having brought brilliantly.
He’s young, hungry (just like the fat man says), he builds for the long term, operates on low budgets and gets his sides playing beautiful football. His ex-pysio experience brings about fantastic athleticism, and He’s even a Scouser. It all adds up to me!
This would be a brave and imaginative choice which makes it sadly an unlikely option. I also suspect Adkins might want to finish what he started at Southampton but money as we know don’t talk it swears. I do think Wolves should view this as our Hungary moment and look at the whole set up and not just the manager
Sorry Ben but i’ve heard a good one. Kevin Keegan .. the Liverpool connection .. with Sammy Lee as No 2 Heard it first from Twixfix ….
Manager of the Month in League 1, Nigel has a knack of winning games; could the fans at Molineux handle winning 10 games in succession?
OUT of all the candidates Bruce is found wanting Warnock is at best a championship manager so there is only one person Curbs even if he has not managed for 3 years hes still on the boil when it comes to the PL ON sky or at matches
Also we musn’t forget how important it is to replace Terry ‘Clipboard’ Connor. Personally I feel a replacement for him is even more important than getting the right manager in.
Agreed Jed. See my earlier reply to Edward shottons post for my reasons
Here here. He’s been half our problem.FOTC.
Christ. Bit of vitriol against poor TC here! Surely we can have little idea if he’s particularly good or bad at his job because his role is essentially to train the players – something we as fans don’t see as it’s done behind closed doors….i imagine i will get one or two strongly worded responses to that imflammatory happy-clapping comment
Ha ha very clever to wind this up.
If you have been following my posts for two season on here or on E & S. Connor has to go for me!!
The coaching/ tactics/ operational issue lie at his door and he’s found wanting, even with quality players. Come on guys get real.
imagine these players in a team being coached by a Hodgson/ Moyes/ or the likes: Hennessey, Foley, Johnson, Zubar, Milijas, OHara, Doyle, Jarvis, Fletch, Kites….. errr i dont think we would be in this position. Do you????
Curbs as manger ray butch Wilkins as his assistant Matt Murray or mervyn day gk coach .is anyone else excited that we might see some good football soon .fed up with being the worst footballing side in the league.if we stay up and curbs is in charge watch us kick on .our team will be unrecogniseable in a years time if we stay up from the players to the football we play.let’s get behind the team and give our all as fans cus I for one can’t stand being in championship again.
sounds good to me m8,i’ll go for that combo.FOTC.
Another i would like is Chris Hughton, got the experience of prem and doing a stirling job at
brum.
Graham Taylor suggests we need at least 38 points to stay up; I hope he’s right because there is no way we’ll reach 40. With only 21 so far we’ve got to pick a new manager who can get us a further 17 points. Looking at ‘The Good (Curbs), The Bad (Warnock?) and definitely The Ugly (Bruce), each would have to achieve a better PL win percentage than they have done so before. Curbs %age with West Ham would just about equate to 16 points, Warnock’s %age would be one point less based on his performance at QPR and Bruce would only manage 12 points based on his record at Sunderland. So back to the original question posed by Thomas; Moxey must saw ‘No’ to Bruce as his is the worst performance. By the way statistics can be made to tell you anything because if I apply the same formula for MM, if he had stayed, his record would indicate he would bring in 15 points also. Is anyone up to this enormous task?
Are you discounting all Curbishley’s performances at Charlton over the years which were more than impressive. They’ll do me.
A further 15 points will keep us up his year in my opinion
I like Curbs but 2 things worry me;
1- He’s a bit quiet. After the presence of Mick he’ll seem a bit meek to the players.
2-He said he’s always wanted to get back working in the Prem. So if we go down will he be off? If we sign him it needs to be on a long contract. We’ll need him to get us out of the Championship. If we end up in the Championship needing a new manager then the standard of who we can get will drop.
All the best Mick.
I hadn’t considered that but if he can’t keep us in the PL then he may be good enough to take us right back up!
Hopefully.
Definitely not Bruce or Warnock or McLaren. Let’s make sure the Express and Star and, more important, Morgan and Moxey know how we feel – I’m sure we need Curbishley, Adkins, or perhaps Lee Clarke from ‘uddersfield. We do have some very good players and others with hearts of gold, who can pull off the big wins we need to gather those points.
One thing that I cannot understand in all this is how in football you can fail a lot but someone will always give you a job. It is strange how people would rather have a high profile, media trained, failure than take on a relative unknown. The other thing I find crazy in all this is that apart from perhaps the man with the cash, the manager is the most influential person at the club and will have the biggest bearing on the future of the club, yet we are going to spend less time on the recruitment of this person than we probably would on the appointment of someone in telesales team. The club was/is obsessed with stability but they are going to hire a million pound a year football manager in 14 days. Quite incredible for me.
My number one choice is Benitez. That izzafact.
I’d pay him £1mil till the end of the season with another £3-4mil bonus on keeping us up.
He wouldn’t come to us long term but short term I think he might just mg consider it. He’s ruled himself out to an extent but we know how little that counts for in football.
I’d agree with Tom, Bruce is an absolute no no as is Warnock. Colin is quite simply a total wanker.
My more practical choice is Curbs. His plus points are outstanding.
1. Never been sacked.
2. Vastly experienced.
3. Saved West Ham from an infinitely worse scenario, to avoid relegation albeit with the help of Tevez.
4. In his last and only full season with WHU he finished 10th. That elusive respectable finish that I’m apparently a fickle and bad fan for wishing for.
5. He created a dynasty at Charlton. Let’s remember Charlton are probably a lower Championship side at best in terms of size and support yet he took them to consistent finishes in the Prem for nearly a decade.
6. He’s probably spent more time in the top half of the Premier League than anyone still working bar Ferguson and Wenger.
7. He was interviewed for the England job in 2006 when he was genuinely considered by many to be a contender. Unfortunately England chose the Wally.
Yes he’s been out of work for about nearly 3 years but so what, if he hadn’t been he probably wouldn’t have to resort to a job like ours where our position is so perilous.
The fact he’s interested and available means he could be in charge before the weekend giving him a whole week to train the side.
And then you never know, maybe, just maybe, when we kick off against Newcastle we won’t pass the ball straight back to Hennessey!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with this completely. The main point is he hasn’t failed anywhere. Why managers who have failed get jobs is a testament of the lack of balls, bravery and creativity of most football chairman’s. In any other industry Steve Bruce would never work again.
Thankyou Kwolf. Spot on. Nuff said.
A very important point I missed out – He topped the E&S poll.
The fact he’s the popular and for me, right choice, makes it a no brainer.
Completely agree – he seems by far and away the best choice available right now.
While it would be interesting to take a chance on a young ‘up-and-coming’ manager, I think now is the time for someone solid who has done it before.
Bruce and Warnock!! do me a favour, I would rather keep Mick as these 2 are no better..
If Benitez would come great, but Moxley would have to open the cheque book..
I still think Curbishley is a risk, he resigned at the beginning of the 2008 season. So thats really 4 years out.. A Big Risk.. Although he looks the most likely.
Dont Forget Hodgson… He has not committed long term to the S**t. Wonder why ?
He stated last week that Wolves had a wonderful owner… I think he wants the job, we are a bigger club than them with greater history and he knows it..
Get someone to keep us up for 13 games and he might be knocking the door in the summer..
Noooooooooooo. He’s pig ugly and only one person linked to the S**t ever came good!!
Out of the so called 3 on the short list which Sky Sports have come up with it has to be Curbs! I just think that Mick’s sacking came 1 month too late though!
I hope I’m wrong and that whoever takes over can keep us up.
Rodger Johnson Quote “Wolves captain Roger Johnson said the players should take the blame for Wolves’ poor showing this season. ‘We have let Mick down, the club down and ourselves down,’ said the central defender.’
Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2101206/Alan-Curbishley-interviewed-Wolves-job.html#ixzz1mOkAA0E3
What about the fans Rodger, Don’t you mean Mick, The Club. Ourselves and the Fans…
Thinking about it though No you probably don’t…
First job for new manager, drop Johnson for Craddock give captaincy back to Henry for now..
Like reading my thoughts. Exactly what I said when I heard him say it. He has done very little to endear himself to the fans since arriving. Give it to Craddock.
The biggest mistake Mick made in his entire Wolves reign was making Johnson captain. Whilst others have been saying FOMM, I would prefer FORJ!!
The biggest mistake was signing the waste of space.
Based on that one comment? He shouldn’t have said it, but Roger doesn’t hate this club’s fans and he has improved since his horrendous run of form!
That is far from his first contemptous statement towards Wolves fans, Hamlet. ‘Disgraceful, disgusting, it stinks’ being his first salvo. He needs to concentrate on trying to look like a premiership footballer. Sooner he’s gone the better for me.
He has improved, but he’s still not putting in performances commanding £40k a week. He was at fault for the 2nd goal at the weekend. His clearance was laughable. And I agree, not his first verbal volley at the Wolves fans.
An inverse blog. Who do you not want? 🙂
Of the managers mentioned on the shortlist, I’d say Warnock would be the one that I don’t want.
Curbishley for me. I like his attitude. Quiet but when he says something, it is worth listening. I think he is clever enough to keep us up although it will be a massive task.
Looking at our fixture list I think we will be hard pushed to get to 30 points. I think we can “look forward” to the championship.
I think 35/36 points will keep us up this year..
The problem is that to get to 36 points we will need to get 15 points out of the next 13 games (so far we have 21 from 25) – that is 5 wins out of the next 13 games (so far we have 5 from 25).
I like your optimism, but I just can’t see it. In every relegation season there is one game from which a team never recovers. In 2004, it was losing to Bolton at home. Sunday felt like the game from which our season won’t recover.
I know we should never give up hope as we all know OUT OF DARKNESS COMETH LIGHT…..
if we do go down Curbs would be the man i would want to get us straight back up and start building the legacy we have always been promised.
COYW
Get Curbishley in, that’s all I have to say on this matter. Anyone that opposes what I’m saying can do one because mark my words: IF we get Curbishley in now we will avoud relegation and within two seasons will achieve a top 10 finish. That’s how confident I am, trust me.
That will do nicely WWolves..
That is the next Level..
I still think Crubs is a risk for being out of the game for 4 years.. But then again if your gonna stick or twist you might as well go for it..
Are you Jez Moxley ?
Well, that’s gotta be a first.
70 comments on a hot topic and not one from me.
Clive, you are slipping.
If Warnock or Bruce are appointed, then thats it for me.
No more Wolves mug for my coffee in the morning.
All Wolves stickers off my truck.
All pix of Bully and JR put away for the duration, and no more screaming “Come on you Wolves” as I jump into bed.
Either of them would be a massive step back into the Jurassic age.
If Bruce or Warlock are given the job, then I’m going to start a campaign for McCarthy back in!!!
Curbishley is the best on offer without a current job.
Re assess in the summer, and make whoever is given the job aware of this up front.
No smokescreens, tell it like it is.
If we stay up, you keep the job and get nice big fat “Moxey”.
Fail, and your days are well and truly numbered.
Why would we want Hodgson?
There have not been many in our history who crossed no mans land from sandwell to The Golden Palace, and as far as I can remember, only one had a small modicum of sucess.
I do of course refer to His Royal Highness, The Almighty, Sir Stephen George Bull, OBE.
Oh how we could do with the number of goals he scored in his first two full seasons for us.
I hope he never goes into management, as he would end up at The Mol, and eventually get sacked, and his legacy is better than that.
As y’all can probably tell, I’ve had a few tonight, she who shall be obeyed is in Calgary, (thats way up North in Canada, Hamsterlet) so I get to play on the ‘puter all night!!
FOJM
As Clive would say: FONW and FOSB.
I am also going join Clive’s “FOMM”-type campaign and I am going to say FORJ – In this case Roger Johnson. He is a disgrace, and the biggest mistake of McCarthy’s reign – including Greg Halford and Stefan Maierhofer.
All i have to say is whose on ASDA watch.
Not sure how many of you will have seen this, it isn’t on newsnow, but a mate posted it on Facebook and it’s defs worth a look if you ever had any fondness in your heart for mad Mick.
Clive don’t watch it, you might crash the site with ur ranting afterwards!
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/blogs/mirror-football-blog/Video-special-The-madness-of-Mick-McCarthy-the-ex-Wolves-boss-s-best-bits-article864857.html?fb_ref=.TzrsWMdfXeQ.like
That was brilliant
It’s got to be Curbs. The only question is will he take it on the terms offered.
The good thing about leaving it so late is the oppurtunity to have someone on a temporary basis til the end of the season. Keep us up and talk about a permanent move then. That’s why it’s got to be someone not in a job now who has nothing to lose.
Curbs achieved a great deal on modest means at Charlton which will suit Moxey of course. He also insisted on complete control of transfers which might not. Ultimately he resigned and won compensation for constructive dismissal for them reneging on that agreement which i applaud.
Mick was always too happy to toe the line for me. We need someone who won’t settle for mediocrity.
Things may not work out but it’s the first time for 18 months i actually feel hopeful again.
As to the question who not? Not Benitez and not Bruce. If Curbs doesn’t come, i reckon Warnock could do the quick fix and then appoint someone log term.
I may be proved wrong but i think we will all be astounded by the improvement we are going to see. The quality of football has been dire for so long. There’s so much room for improvement.
Our last two blogs, THANKYOU MICK
NO THANKS
I’m hoping the last blog when we finish nicely out of the bottom three will be
THANKYOU SANDWELL TOWN!
Think Jody Craddock has got a part to play in this-think he would be good bridge between new manager and team. It’s just a thought-I would feel that fans would feel much happier with Jody having a say.
Curbs of the candidates is the only one for me.

What really pisses me off is the whole attitude coming out of the club and especially from the portly stoat Moxey, is that the manager must fit the club. What he means by this is the manager must be answerable to Jez and tow the company line. I have two problems with this, firstly, Chief Execs are ten a penny – especially in the current climate where a lot of those sort of people are being made redundant. The person doesn’t have to have footballing knowledge at all, they are businessmen who coordinate the day to day running of the club as an organisation. Good football managers however, are fairly rare in comparison, as such the managers roll in the club is infinitely more important. Secondly, if you look at the two great success stories of the modern era in the PL – Wenger and Ferguson, they set the tone for the whole club. They know the club upside down and are very influential in the footballing direction the club will take – so why the hell do Wolves have to settle for a yes man to ensure Moxey is happy in his job?
I’m not advocating giving a manager free rein, you only have to look at what Harry Redknapp did to Portsmouth to see how that can pan out, but he should be given a budget to work within and given the opportunity to really build something worthwhile at Wolves. Ideally this should be a young manager, with sound footballing principles and bags of talent. Instead we are going to appoint yet another old fashioned manager, who is desperate just to stay in a job and so will play Princess Leah to Jezza The Hut.
You’re right about Curbishley, in that he is the best from the available list, but if I was Morgan and I truly had ideas about building something great here, I’d appoint an interim manager with the sole function of keeping us up. I’d then take the chance in the summer to identify the best young managers in the market, tempt them away from their club and give them a long term goal here. As it is I just can’t get excited abouty whoever Jez has in mind, or whatever he perceives the clubs DNA to be. Because ultimately, he only cares about his own pay packet and not about the club or it’s fans
I meant “role” not “roll” – I’m pretty hungry this morning
Is there such a manager out there who comes in on interim basis to make teams start winning? I am not sure they exist.
Admittedly it hasn’t happened yet – I just don’t see the point of handing out a 3 year deal to someone we’re going to appoint in a hurry. Get someone in ona short term deal and if they impress they’ll be considered in the summer when we look to appoint long term
If you want to appoint a manager quickly it isn’t going to be one currently with another club…it takes time to make an approach and to agree compensation. Either way in the bracket of managers who would come to us (which rules out Benitez) Curbishley is by far the best and fits all of our required criteria…that of having staved off relegation, survived relegation to win promotion back (if the worst does happen) and more than survived in the premiership – on limited budgets. He also has the added ability to successfully bring players through (Scott Parker) and use his scouting network to identify up and coming players. This really is a no brainier!
So I expect our board to do its usual…and appoint someone else!
Thomas it is true that its more interesting to pick who you don’t want but its harder. I could pick off the top my head at least 20 managers currently employed or available who I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. Many of whom have a had a stint with us already Mr McGoo and Hoddle please stand up. But out of the ones being put forward by the press Bruce is probably the most dangerous. For all of his many despicable faults at least Warnock has a track record of getting teams promoted if the worst did happen. Bruce is a quitter and feels he belongs chasing the Wengers and Fergusons of this world rather then looking at his own relatively poor record and thinking of building for the future.
That said from the point Mick going became inevitable, Ive been a staunch supporter of Curbishley. He has a track record for getting the most out of teams; his Charlton and West Ham teams were a force to be reckoned with. If they go for Warnock or Bruce iIll be gutted id rather have Mick McCarthy.
i agree
Warnock and Bruce are hopeless failures
my season wont be renewed if these get in
lets give Curbishley a chance
see if he still has it
even if we have to go down for a year
Bruce or warnock mustn’t come anywhere near the molineux. Warnock, like mick would excell in bringing another team up from the championship. Bruce is just rubbish.
Also gonna hop on this little bandwagon and pledge my support for curbishley as manager. Definitely the best option at the moment.
I have watched this blog for ages without posting any views, however that’s about to change. Way back in the 1950’s my long dead old man was a Ba$$!£$ fan because he did not know better as soon as I was 5 or 6 years old I followed The Mighty Wolves just to be different, No telly then only “wireless” and the Sports Argus. So over the years I have seen the best and the worst of teams and managers. My best mate these days is a Chelsea fan so we have lots to talk about. My predicion rate with our last few managers has been spot on. Moxey is a big problem someone said CEO’s are ten a penny but are they necessary? I think not. It’s time to take stock get a manager on board now with the brief to keep us up, then discuss the future give the man a budget and let him do the job. Morgan in the dressing room will have gone gone down with MM like a $hite sandwich as it would with anyone in any level of authority. Well we have a few interesting weeks ahead but it is a big ask it was left too long before this action was taken, and lets remember last season, MM did not keep us up Tottenham Hotspur did in the final minute of the season. MM was not the man for the PL so lets get someone who will step up to the mark. One final word on this it’s mentioned that we pay the lowest wages in the PL. Peanuts and monkeys spring to mind.
Right on, sheffield wolf. Picking just one you don’t want is an impossible task. I’m very close to those who won’t renew their ST if it’s Warnock or Bruce, but I think I have to say that my no.1 no is Roy Keane. Even though I thought that for the sake of the club McCarthy had to go, Mick does not deserve to be shit on like that.
Ince and Connor for me. Both know how much it means to the fans and will surely be able to motivate them for a tough couple of months coming up.
Connor ? As in Terry Connor ?
I agree they’d both have the heart.
But that’s not what we need. We need a good footballing brain to get us out of the mess. Neither ince nor Connor has that I don’t beleive.
This blog and these comments have made me think. When you think carefully about ST sales, it makes no sense at all that Bruce and Warnock are being seriously considered. “novice” usually means somebody with no experience at all, i.e., someone with no managerial experience AT ALL. Maybe Jez was choosing his words carefully while throwing up a smoke screen. Perhaps it will be a young, bright manager after all. Ever the optimist, that’s me!
Ron Atkinson has an interesting take on Curbishleys suitability as a short fix appointment to get us out of the shit we are in. Does he have the personality to have an instant impact on players and fans ? Can he light the blue touchpaper ? For me he has less charisma tha a toilet seat. Maybe long-term not short-term.
Lee Clark has left Huddersfield….
Please Please Please whatever it takes get LEE CLARK NOW
The Bookies have suddenly had a lot of money for Lee Clark to be our next manager !
Tafkag says he’s left Huddersfield.
If he comes to us I’d say a bold, forward thinking move…..
Odds slashed from 25/1 to 10/3 on Stan James – still behind Curbishley at 1/3. More likely to go to Leeds but I agree, would be very forward thinking – young dynamic manager. It would be gutsy, but Jez certainly has a large gut
Think we might see Morgan more active than Jez in manager picking.
It’s a chance for the chairman to show his ‘concern’ and involvement…
Lee Clark for Wolves? How does that go down with you guys on here? Huddersfield fans seem surprisingly glad to see the back of him!

Wow – weird that. On paper he’s lost 3 games all season and they’ve shown genuine progression since he’s been there in terms of league placings. But as some external reactions to Mick’s sacking show, the fans know their club better than anyone
It would be great if he could replicate with WW his run of 43 games unbeaten, however PL is a totally different challenge and he lacks that experience
Wouldn’t want Clark at all. Spent plenty of money at Huddersfield, poor football and lots of draws. May not have lost many, but neither did Twaddle.
I would go for Curbs! But it would mean what most supporters want. Great football. It would have to be a big change from scouting, youth, all coaching set up…. do they have the balls????
I’m too long in the tooth and have seen it before. Unless there is an overwhelming NO from fans, we will end up with Bruce.
Say nothing and it will happen. There is no point in moaning about it afterwards. You know the record and its well and truly scratched, resulting in the same introduction of the tune being repeated over and over and over. You can’t repair a scratched record and it can only get worse. Give Ince a chance to the end of season, can’t be worse than the alternative.
