While I am not one for engaging in salacious tittle-tattle, I have enough faith in one or two contacts to report on the ongoing rumours surrounding the club’s ownership.
The Express & Star didn’t appear unduly excited by reports that Spaniard Julen Lopetegui will be our next coach, reporting that the club has ‘categorically rubbished’ the link, as well as talk of a new Chinese billionaire owner in Robin Li.
Far from categorically rubbishing claims myself, I am told that there is such mileage in both rumours that an announcement will be made as soon as next week on both scores.
Indeed, respected Spanish football journalist, broadcaster and author Guillem Balague has just tweeted to say Lopetegui will be installed ‘sometime next week if all is agreed’, before going on to give an account of the way his teams like to play. Exciting times.
In addition, Spanish newspapers Marca and AS are both reporting news of an imminent Lopetegui arrival and they seldom pin their colours to a mast unless they’re sure of the source.
One of my two sources has been saying that a big change was imminent for months, going on alleged information from inside the club.
Then, on June 19, I received a message adding some more meat to the bones, from the second source.
It stated: ‘Richard Skirrow and Rita Purewall from the accounts department met at a London hotel with a Chinese businessman called Mr Li. The accounts department have been putting together information for him. These were extra projections which is ‘out of the ordinary’ and they were told that it’s nearly at an end.’
Following on from this, I have just received a message off my first source who was so adamant that big changes would be made.
He has just tweeted: ‘Definitely true. Both announcements could be made next week.’
The only discrepancy in the two rumours from my contacts is that both, at completely different times of the year, claimed that David Moyes would be our next manager.
That we are supposedly about to sign up an ex-Porto manager of some repute instead might perversely add credence to the Moyes claim. I.E we are genuinely looking at a big name to move us forward. Maybe just not the name of the Scotsman.
We shall see what happens in the coming days. But with the cat being let out of the bag by more than one source, I thought it only right to share what I have been told in recent weeks.
With that in mind – and the credibility of the people I have been speaking to – there is more than a hint of truth in these accounts. An announcement expected next week, I am told.
Ben – your report mirrors what I have been hearing. I also think if you read Moxey’s rebuttal statement on the official Wolves site it is not a denial more of a “we can’t say anything right now”. Knowing what Moxey is like, and as you rightly pointed out previously you have to check the semantics of everything the slippery so and so says, I am daring to dream once more.
I agree the jungle drums are starting to make some music,so, if you were a betting man something IS likely to happen and with true proper money behind them…
We just could,just could, be embarking on real change a real future and if course the promised PL land..

I’m naturally pessimistic about stuff like this, but agree the club’s official response didn’t deny anything. I think there’s some chess going on and I hope Wolves aren’t just a pawn in an ultimately bigger game.
This all sounds very exciting and is exactly what we have all hoped for. If this is all happening we can expect some big changes at Wolves for the better. Hopefully it will be done soon so we have enough time to sign some players. Maybe the Berbatov roumours are real as well…. Just imagine…

I have heard some mental stuff . They want to build a out of town asda . For more land at the mol to build state of the ground . Tie up with European team poss milan like at Watford with udinese. C’mon DG. If you were a Welsh player who would you rather face in the latter rounds, England,(who had already beaten Wales), or Iceland? (Leaving myself open to a riposte), I know which I would choose. Wales would have celebrated if Iceland had beaten Germany or Italy because it would mean one less potential winning team between them and the trophy. People will always support the underdog. There will always be sporting rivalry and the closer it is to home the more it intensifies.
It is a magnificent achievement for such a limited squad to beat Belgium and reach the semis. Give them some credit.

I’m having a few weeks touring around Europe at the mo’ so have been completely out of the loop about these rumours surrounding the ownership and all that. I agree that it’s all very exciting, if it’s true, but that’s the burning question.
I’ve promised myself, after past disappointments on this subject, not to believe anything until it’s signed, sealed and delivered. But putting that natural scepticism aside temporarily,the omens look somewhat more than promising, with so many stories coming from such a variety of normally reliable sources.
The choice of manager, if true, is a bit dubious, in my opinion. Do we not say that we need a manager that ‘knows the division’ ? He certainly isn’t that but I guess money can cure all ills. Frankly, and I guess a few of you will disagree, I think KJ would get us up if given the resources that may be available.
During our search for new owners, I’ve always thought that our name would be a big plus for oriental investors, where image seems to be so important. So Chinese investment isn’t so surprising. And I would imagine that our name, and our golden shirts are safe. Hopefully the Molineux will keep it’s moniker too.
Anyway. None of this matters, ’cause I don’t believe a word of any of it.

I spoke to a friend of mine over the weekend who works part time scouting for the academy. He told me that the talks are in an “advanced stage” but nothing has been agreed just yet. Supposedly one sticking point is the new owner wants a new manager but Moxey wants Jackett to be given a chance. Not sure if this is because the last foreign manager we tried who had no experience in England – Solbakken – turned out so badly or because he feels Jackett deserves a chance after doing well in his first two seasons before Morgan pulled the rug away.
I don’t mind Jackett staying after any takeover as any manager will eventually be judged by their results but hopefully this will spell the end for Moxey.

On the basis that there is no such thing as a poor bookmaker here is an interesting fact that has just been reported on the E&S (ok I know ‘fact’ and E&S don’t often go together);
Wolves odds to get promoted have been slashed from 16-1 to 4-1, our odds to win the Championship title from 40-1 to 14-1 and to make the play-offs is now just 6-4. This morning we were the 14th most fancied team to be promoted but now we are in the top 4 fancied teams.

Everything I am reading, seeing, hearing and listening to – and deciphering and reading between many, many lines – seems to point to there being an announcement made on Friday 8th July. Not before. Announcement will be takeover by Robin Li, with new manager, Julen Lopetegui. We will just have to be patient and wait another 2-3 days lads.
The bookies continue to believe something is happening as the only clubs above us in their odds are now the 3 relegated clubs from the PL and the 3 who lost out in the play-offs. It wasn’t so long ago that we were amongst the favourites to go down!

Sorry DOOG but I couldn’t disagree more if I tried. And I am very trying or so Mrs BW often says. This myth that Moxey is a good financial manager – he isn’t. He adopts the same financial management techniques as Gordon Brown did. He cuts back on everything, sells off the family gold to balance the books, runs everything on the cheap, is devoid of vision and incapable of seeing let alone understanding the bigger picture. In short his financial management, or mismanagement, is concerned with the minuteae and echoes the type of man he is – small minded. As the late and very great Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill said to his Chiefs of staff in WW2 “the higher mind need not concern itself with the strict regimentation of figures”. If Moxey had been our wartime leader we’d all now be munching on bratwurst and sauerkraut.

The Daily Mirror is now reporting that Robin Li is one of 2 parties who have signed non disclosure agreements with Morgan whilst developments are on going. An announcement in ‘next few days’.
I’ve got an horrible gut renching feeling that Moxey somehow is involved in some capacity to either be part of the takeover or have his fingers still in the pie, if Li or whoever takes over.

If rumours are right then you are reading it right. Li was part of a consortium to buy AC Milan, that was the rumour right at the beginning long before the Spanish sports writer did his job (Dim Tim Spiers seems incapable of doing) he leaked it to the World. Also it was always the story we would be Li’s sole aquisition, this would keep us free of the problems of him owning two clubs and there being any conflict when or if we ever met AC Milan in a competition.
The other point made in the previous leak was middle of July for completion, when the latest rumour came out it was specific, 7th or 8th July, guess what?
The next 24 hrs is make or break for me. (And Bully) he’s got involved this morning saying, “they need to be open and up front with us the fans.
I’m expecting tomorrow, but hoping for today. (Don’t want much do I) only the 2nd richest bloke in China to take the club over.
