For a club that basks in a ‘long term vision’ as if it invented the very phrase, progress reports on recruiting Mick’s successor should barely sound plausible right now.
According to the Daily Mail, Steve Bruce won’t touch us with a bargepole after Jez and Steve unveiled a new-fangled concept to replace the outmoded old one: ‘The short-term strategy.’
If Paddy McGuiness wasn’t hosting his Saturday night game show, he could have been transported to our London hotel instead.

‘Let the tiddly, see the wink,’ shouts Paddy, as Brucey walks into the snug bar.
Cue footage of our mess of a stadium, Steve Morgan’s seething face at home to Liverpool and the rest was history.
‘No likey, no lighty,’ screams Bruce in terror as he joins Alan Curbishley in smashing his switch quicker than a contestant faced with Jo Brand.
Bad enough approaching the mingers that none of us would touch, worse still to offer them the island of Fernando on a 13 game holiday and get it thrown back in our faces!
Whether or not these custard pie rumours are to be believed or not, the fact that the bookies have Mick McCarthy at 25-1 to come back to Molineux tells its own story.
Were it not for the endless smug platitudes from Moxey up until now, some fans might view this appointment process with a modicum of patience.
But when Jez Moxey turned up on Sky Sports News last night to say absolutely nothing of any note whatsoever, such equanimity is harder to find.
Thirteen games to save our season, and a scenario of having no manager in place against Newcastle United, let alone a preferred one.
Some situation for a club that always saw the bigger picture.
After picking up seven points from our first three league games, Jez Moxey said the following:
“Nothing is by chance. You get what you put in in life generally.
“Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve, or what you put in. But when you get an opportunity, and this is a horrible phrase: ‘when preparation meets opportunity’ – or whichever way it is! – you get this offspring called good fortune, or good luck.
“And we believe about making your own good fortune or luck in life. But to do that you’ve just got to work your socks off 24/7.”
That Wolves appear to be having no luck in this most miserable of manager hunts tells its own story.
Thirteen games. Everything by chance. And barely a manager left in the studio with his light on.

As far as I can work out, nothing has been either confirmed nor denied – that article on Bruce turning down the job had no evidence whatsoever to support it and Curbishley turning us down was just a rumour too!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2103079/Steve-Bruce-turns-Wolves.html
No one really knows what’s happening except the board – and they’re being frustratingly secretive about it!
Agree! Wolves are usually very quiet on ‘behind-the-scenes’ matters, so I’m not buying into the paper talk.
Just got my fingers crossed that someone decent arrives soon!
I prey and hope ur right …still want The Curbs!
Oh my Wolves!!
Oh the irony of having to watch a team that Connor will lead here next Saturday, when Ive been bellowing to get Connor out for the last 2 seasons.
I would have preferred to keep MM but given him an astute coach! Now what?
But Im reasonably content today enjoying this north east coastline in sunshine watching a deluge of waves overwhelming unsuspecting but passionate surfers…. Hold on a minute, is there some sort of symbolism with the club I love or just coincidence!!!!
I refer you all to my comments on the previous blog-just to add this is moving in the direction of Sven Goran-Erickson. Who else is there who’s not in a job of any quality.
Classic fuck up by The Two Ronnies.
Surely our history should tell us we don’t need another ex-England manager arriving.
It a horrible position that we’re in mate, The fact that the fate of our club is in the hands of the 2 M’s is frightening! I feel that the type of manager that would come in and work for them is not the type of manager we want!!
As always, i will sit and wait to see what moronic decision will be made that clearly has the intersts of their wallets and not the club at heart. The only thing that could save this club is that if that slimey weasel Moxey went out the door as well. I still get laughed at by my Stoke fan mate for the fact we took him on!
I honestly fear for what lies ahead but i shall hope to be proved wrong!
Mick MCarthy is available !!
Patience please.
As difficult as it may be.
I think Wolves have behaved very professionally in recent times when addressing issues, such as player transfers, and have no doubt they will do the same now.
How about David Jones ? Think he was given meagre £4m war chest by hayward to keep us up and lost Murray and Lescott for the season. Still think he would have kept us up if Henri Camara had found his shooting boots earlier. Would prefer him to a few other names that have been banded around. I hope Morgan is aware of fans feelings towards Bruce.
Firstly if Steve Bruce has stated he doesnt want to touch us with a bargepole (and I havent seen any quotes to back this up?) then thats great as far as I’m concerned – so far talking to other WOLVES fans I haven’t heared anyone who wants this guy??
However Curbs has to be the man – likewise if we are all to believe a ‘tweet’ by his son saying his Pops didnt think it went well then we really are clutching at straws for info.
I feel we will do the deal with Curbs and we will get our man.
Connor has to go – never rated him and goes back to the dark days of McGhee – our style of Football under him has been woeful and hopefully we will get the change we all want.
Big massive thanks to Mick though – I have to say top guy and the place will be a lot duller without him – wish him every success whereever he goes and he will ALWAYS be welcome back at Golden Palace.
The fact is we’re all desperate for positive news-that has not yet come. We want anyone who could guide us to safety an progress next season. If Hitler was available Im sure he’d be in the running too.
I find it interesting that:
A. the players came out and said it was their fault
B. they said they would be 100% behind a new manager
If they’re admitting it was their fault, why the hell weren’t they 100% behind the guy who is best qualified by far to get us out of this current position.
i personally wish that i had read in the news last week that Morgan had resigned and that Wolves were actually looking for a man who was willing invest in the players of his club and the manager that got them and kept them where they.
Agree completely (Howling Wolf is also a brilliant name)
If Steve Bruce needs 3 years to keep us up this season it just doesnt add up to me would rather take a chance on someone with untapped potential.
Moxey spoke of hiring a manager that fits the club’s DNA. How can a manager, like Bruce, already less popular than Mick fit the club’s DNA? Bruce turning down an offer from Wolves are the best thing that’s happened! I’m so relieved, so happy! :=)
It’s well documented that Hodgson hasn’t committed to another contract yet. We should move heaven and earth to get him. We wouldn’t see straight away the free flowing total football that Albion destroyed us with
last week as we haven’t the same calibre of technically gifted player but my god he would get us organised quickly and add some tactical nouse which we lack.
I wish they would get this deal done. It is dragging on, and the club is starting to look amateurish. Someone needs to be in to lift the players & sort out the formation & that defence. I’d have either Bruce or Curbishley now, and I agree, if it is true, with Bruce that 13 games is no deal, he is right the players would not be with him as he could only be there for a short period, & it would be very damaging to him as a manager.
I really cannot comprehend the anti Bruce vitriol. Whoever gets it he needs backing from the fans, board & players. He needs a proper deal not a temporary one. Ridiculous! As for Hodgson, his tactical nous was he put Odemwingie against Ward who does what he does gives away too much space so the winger can run onto him & we are on the back foot all the time. It ws farcial against the Baggies, but the resultant search for a new man has been just as bad, if not worse. Despairing stuff. Lets have one of these guys in place by Monday evening please or preferably tea-time today!
I read the story about Bruce and thought “so he hasn’t got the job, but wants a nice story about him turning us down rather than the other weay round when the next managerial jobs comes up so it doesn’t ruin his chances.”
I’m all for being thorough but I can’t help feeling if there was one outstanding candidate, words like ‘second interview’ and ‘process’ wouldn’t be getting thrown around.
Was anyone else even interviewed for the Sunderland and QPR jobs?
The only thing that would justify such a pantomime would be if the two Ms were working tirelessly behind the scenes to rip some promising manager away from his current employers.
But I don’t think this is the case.
I still fully expect Curbishley or Bruce to be named as manager on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Agree, mate.
These lines from Moxey stood out:
“This job requires a certain type of manager and someone who is going to give us complete commitment and enthusiasm.
“We would only ever appoint somebody who clearly demonstrated to us that they really want the job.”
That sounds worryingly like they’ll give it to the guy who wants it the most. Which would logically be the person who is most desperate and has the worst CV.
I think the legacy of Hoddle is still haunting the club.
Enthusiasm alone isn’t going to keep this team up – tactics, selection and coaching might.
I don’t think so based on information emerging today.
Controversially I’d rather appoint TC for the rest of the season now and leave the appointment of a new manager until the summer.
At the very least I’d like to see TC pick the team for Newcastle anyway – we might be surprised by both the choice and the result – gives the players a good reason to step up and be counted.
What on earth would Terry Connor bring to the table that wasn’t already there when MM was?
I seriously think you have no idea about the situation the club is currently in and what it will take to get out of it
Really? is this a serious Wolves Fan???????
Moderator have a word!!!
If things were going badly for you at work and you had three months before you were demoted, and you needed inspiring, would the spectacle of Steve Bruce’s face raise your morale?
I was talking to Thomas about the most uninspiring managerial choice that we could possibly go for, and Steve Bruce’s face aside, I came up with a couple that would make Brucey look like Jose.
Glenn Roeder being one.
Lawrie Sanchez another.
Oh, and Avram Grant for good measure. And Phil Brown and Iain Dowie!
In fact, the more you think about it, there are some bloody god awful managers out there!
I just think that a new pair of eyes, wherever they are from, will surely have some sort of positive impression on the squad.
I am trying to be positive here! If Bruce comes in, surely he can see a player and look at things objectively, which would result in a better points haul. (despite my objections to him coming here)
EG: Champions League centre back Zubar playing centre half
Stearman not going anywhere near the right back slot.
Hammill nearer to the action than Hunt.
No more hoofs from the goalkeeper from kick off and 100 times thereafter.
The change is too late in the season IMO, but it still might galvanise us, despite my downbeat view of proceedings above.
At least Phil Browns face would match the shirt
I’m assuming the original plan was to do interviews Thurs & Fri, agree terms and make appointment over weekend. For it now to be dragging out and after moxey’s non interview on Saturday, its all getting worrying.
Deoxyribonucleid acid.
DNA.
From which we get genes, the building blocks of life, which are copied and inherited across generations.
This is the latest buzz expression from Jeremy Derek Moxey, that well known football guru, who actually played basketball as a younger man, and ran a sports marketing business. ( akin to selling programmes on match days?)
He states that the next Wolves manager has to have Wolves DNA.
I put it to you that Wolves DNA is slightly different than what dear Jeremy has in mind.
To me, Wolves DNA is the pride, the passion and the pure essence of being part of something special, indefineable and intangible, but there all the same, in all true supporters.
The excitement and raw emotions and pure love for your fellow supporters, especially on match days.
The euphoria that transcends all other feelings when we score, or win.
The sense of belonging to a very exclusive club, and a lifelong commitment to our team.
To me, men such as Major Frank Buckley, Stan Cullis, Billy Wright, Ron Flowers, Derek Parkin, Steve Bull, even Graham Turner had Wolves DNA.
They did not run away at signs of adversity, their tenure was durable, honest and long.
I put it to you, fellow Wolves fans, that what Mr. Moxey actually wants our next manager to have is Jez DNA.
A person in it for what he can get, and who will do and say exactly as he’s told, and do things on the cheap.
We’ve lanced the boil, he is quoted as saying.
Have we indeed?
But what about the cancer in our club?
Mr. Moxey, if you wish to start using medical terminology, at least have the good manners to use the correct one.
Cancer, and that is you.
The cancer that picked up a 2.5 million pound bonus, as we got relegated in 2004.
The cancer that said there was no way we would not do at least the first 2 stages of redeveloping a ground only 20 years old, and then declares that stage 2 is on hold indefinitely.
The cancer that helped plan and augment a redevelopment of our brand new training facilities in Compton, to somehow include luxury houses and a church?
The cancer that has found employment at WWFC for his daughter (so I’m reliably informed) who will obviously have a huge football knowledge, passed down via her dad’s DNA. The beginnings of a dynasty?
The cancer who is reportedly the highest paid employee of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mr Moxey, there is only one 100% cure for cancer, and that is swift removal.
For the last 12 years you have raped the finances of our great club to feather your own nest, and pushed your “young and hungry” agenda until we are sick to the stomach.
For young and hungry, you mean “gullible and cheap”, don’t you?
You sit up there in your gilded Perton Ridge cage, thinking you are untouchable, looking down on us mere mortals….but actually your customers and your financial life blood.
Well, Mr Moxey, your time has come. You are the most unpopular person in Wolverhampton, and you must surely feel the walls closing in, the walls which are us, the fans.
The club will survive, we will still be there through thick and thin, but you will be gone.
It may not be today, tomorrow or this year, but you will go.
So, in the polite spirit this column has been written, please do us the first and only decent thing you’ve done in the past 12 years, and resign as soon as possible.
The vitriol and hate you saw directed to our most recent manager is nothing compared to what you have coming.
Go, Mr Moxey, and take your beloved DNA with you.
Clive. most unpopular person in Wolverhampton? On what basis do you make that comment. Speak for yourself, not on behalf of those that you know nothing of thier views.
All decisions of note at not made by JM without SM or previously JHs agreement, how long do you think he would have lasted if he went against the wishes of the clubs owner.
Elequoent as you write you talk b******ks
At least my spellin an grammur am proper, like!
When you’re losing a arguement, pick up on spelling and grammar.
As Bigbadwulf put it (the comments you ignored) you speak for you and yourself only. Others may join you, but don’t think for a minute you speak for everyone in Wolverhampton.
You’ve moved on from your ‘FOMM’ rants, and calling Mick McCarthy ‘cancer’ to hounding Jez Moxey and describing Moxey as cancer 8 times.
I think you need to get a grip
Reply to Clive…Mate thats the most true article i have ever read you have put it over so well and so true..as long as he is here we will be doomed…nasty cheap slime ball..
Couldnt agree more except you didnt mention Moxeys DNA incorporates a bare faced liar trait!
For him to talk about Wolves DNA is the biggest blasphemy I’ve ever heard! Its a grotesque perversion of what our history and heritage stands for and just how on earth that man continues to run our beloved club is beyond me.
Whoever we get will be pushing a very big stone up a very steep hill while Moxey is chief exec.
I`m old school and want to see us return to playing proper football. Having watched wolves for nearly 50 years I`ve got to say the rubbish MM has served up this season is very depressing and I agree with an earlier poster lets go for Roy Hodgson. As much as I hate to admit it albion gave us a footballing lesson, yes they have superior players to our bunch but they play the game the right way. I saw them on MOTD against Newcastle away earlier in the year where they broke at pace and scored three goals to win and thought then what the hell will they do when they come to our place. I got my answer on sunday when they looked like barcelona and could have scored 10.
MM took us backwards and only bought one palyer who would grace the albion side, taht being Fletcher.
If Hodgsons not feeling wanted down the road, lets roll out the red carpet and prize him away and perhaps then we`ll stay up and see some proper football as well.
Give me one reason why Hodgson would leave an in-form Albion team that beat us 5-1 on our turf – to an out of form relegation contenter Wolves team, who trail 8 points behind the team he currently manages, who have lost all manner of confidence and may not possess the ability needed to stay in this league??. Please I would be intrigued to know!
Bigger Club..
Better History…
Ambition…
Bigger Fan Base (more Money)
One Club One city, ( Sandwell town are merely Birmingham rejects) Birminghan post code Birmingham Phone number…. and they claim to be part of the Black Country..
Come on anyone can see why Hodgson would perfer Wolves…
Yeh we may or may not be a bigger club and the historys about the same.
Ambition? sadly baggies win there, already got a state of the art academy, sack a manager with a better one ready to sign, buy quality players who make ours look league 1 at best.
No sadly Hodgson wouldn`t join us but I too would love to see us play the sort of football they produce at times.
My History Books tell me we have won more silverware than they have.
The Academy clearly isn’t doing them much good they remain in the bottom half of the table.
If you want to watch their football then I suggest you buy a ticket there, but have only got 2 wins and 2 draws at home all season, less points at home than us.
The difference over the whole season is their 2 wins over us. Not because they are playing special football..
Exactly seven days after watching the debacle at Molineux last Sunday, I’ve just watched a team of players that could teach every Wolves player a lesson or two; the attitude, spirit, courage and at times ability shown by the Stevenage guys was a pleasure to watch. If a young Championship or League One manager can bring some of the above to the Golden Palace; I don’t care if they lack PL experience, one thing they certainly would have is the full backing of the fans. We certainly don’t want anyone who doesn’t want us so time I think for Poxey and Moron to be brave and go for an ‘informed’ selection rather than an ‘enforced’ one.
I saw the game too Ledbury. They looked great didn’t they? No shortage of ability there either. On a complete tangent, I used to play against Ledbury as a youngster, on that sloping pitch in the town. Used to play for Leominster Colts, an under 12 and 14 team. Not sure what this adds to the debate, but there you go!
Leominster Colts U14 team not unlike Wolves in some ways: they keep losing at home!
Behave yourself! We had a great record at Fortress Leominster Rubbish Tip back in the day!
It was always Tupsley Pegasus and Lads Club who’d smash us, that’s all! (and occasionally Ledbury!)
Souness in by tuesday .believe me
Really? Any source?! Souness called Moxey a liar when he allegdly bid to take over the club when Sir Jack gave it away. Can’t see that happening as both Morgan and Moxey won’t want that sub-plot surrounding things? Interesting if true though!
utter b*****ks, go away you annoying t**t
No need for the expletives mate. I appreciate Souness can induce such language but no need for that! (Mind you, refraining from typing out the expletives in full softened the blow, at least)
You might aw well say that we got messi tevez and Klose up mfront all managed by Guardiola.
I think that is a better way of replying to the unfounded Sourness statement!
When its all done and dusted i expect at least some of the rumours will be shown to have had some substance.
If we throw enough out there Colin, one or two will stick! Can we throw Walter Smith into the mix, just in case?
Anyone remember when Bobby Downs took charge when Taylor got the sack? We played some beautiful football so out of keeping with the season that had gone before.
I’m not sure we lost under him and was genuinely disappointed he didn’t stay on when McGhee came in.
Maybe TC can do likewise?! We will win at NUFC, the lads will all come out and say he was like Churchill in the dressing room. Hammill will score the winner, and we’ll give it him until the end of the season.
I have had a couple of beers this arvo, which might be clouding my optimism. I do feel upbeat now.
Hi Ben wasnt really thinking about all the names thrown into mix(espeically Sourness)but some of the stuff thats got out about Curbishley and Bruce may have some substance – but we wont know until the end of the week.
Bobby Downes won 2, drew 1 and lost 3. I think I remember his first home game in charge, we played some lovely football, went 1-0 up and then lost 3-1. Didn’t seem management material to me.
I stand corrected! I remember us drawing 2-2 at home with Ipswich Town at home when Goodman scored twice. Mowbray scored in injury time I recall. It must have been bad under GT if I remember 2 wins, one draw and three defeats so fondly!!
Everyone’s playing hardball over the length of the contract. Think Ugly Sisters will have to soften their approach to secure any appointment- It’s a DNA disaster.
There is only one man for the Wolves job – Walter Smith. Top manager and respected by his peers.
He’d be an intriguing choice, that’s for sure.
Didn’t do much at Everton in his only job south of the border though and spent big to get the success he enjoyed at Rangers.
Don’t know enough about him as a tactician or motivator to really judge whether he’d be the right man for our 13-game salvage mission.
If he was good enough for Fergie mate, that’d be good enough for me! Can’t believe we haven’t heard Stuart Baxter / Sean O’Driscoll. We always used to back in the day!
Brian Kidd?
Smartarse! He was one of Fergie’s most successful right hand men wasn’t he? I am coming to the conclusion that Blackburn is a graveyard for managers.
Hodgson, Ince, Kidd…
Ask Ince to take it for 13 games. He’d jump at it. If ( when) we go down, if we’ve seen no positive spark, and Bloose don’t get promoted, prise Houghton away…….
This waiting is doing my head in,Why do we always have to wait to get anything down here.
Player’s now managers, what the f..k is going on, could it be we want something on the cheap as usual.
Newcastle match will be here before we know it and still whithout a manager and like someone
said earlier what we don’t want is TC getting a result as much as i would like wolves to win.
don’t think TC is the future for our club…Still hope curbs comes.
Let’s all be honest, if we win at Newcastle, beat Fulham away, finally get a home win, against Blackburn, then we won’t give a rat’s arse who is manager.
All we are bothered about is survival.
Let’s get some one in. If Clipboard is in charge and we stay up, then thank you very much.
In the summer things should change totally, and whoever gets appointed now should be assessed along with any other candidate, but for now, only one thing matters, Wolves surviving in the Prem.
P.S. if we win the next three, we got an easy fourth game coming up!!!!
FOWB
I would take wins at Fulham and Blackburn, because even if we do have a new manager by then I can’t see us getting a result at Newcastle…
How about Gary Megson or Steve Coppell? No one has mentioned either of those yet 🙂
Personally I’d like to see Curbs get a shot at it.
Now you’re talking!!
Steve Coppell 50-1, same price as WW finishing in top ten of PL, therefore unlikely contender.
I just want to say……weren’t there rumours of O’hara going to QPR instead of Wolves because it was taking so long? If anything the bookies are clearly showing that nobody has any idea, I think McCarthy is 25-1 to come back or something, then there is some oldie called vellie (not sure of spelling) who was the third favorite for the job according to skysports.
If anything I believe that the media’s coverage of this spectacle smacks of desperation as Moxey and Morgan are holding their cards very tightly to their chests (as usual)
On another note, I believe that anyone other than Curbs would be a backwards step as his work at Charlton and West Ham are second to none (in terms of the candidates available). He has a managerial style similar to Hodgson in which there is careful attention to detail.
Bruce would be unpopular and I can’t see him sparking a survival plan.
If anything, despite the controversy and lack of experience and bad record. I would be interested to see how Roy Keane would fare, especially considering the Irish connections he holds. Plus he is clearly a man who wouldn’t hold back in his post-match team talk and clearly and bluntly tell the players how they are playing.
Bored of this now, We will all know soon enough if we are set to survive or doomed for relegation. Pull you fingers out you pair of numpty’s and tell us who the F**K it’s gona be ! I’m gona have one last guess it’s Kermit the frog and Fantastic Mr Fox as our tacticion. WE STILL BELEVE UP THE WOLVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moxey says ” its Steve`s club and he can do waht he wants”. For me Moxey is an overpaid puppet who dances to Morgan`s tune, with Morgan pulling the strings in the background.
My boss knows Morgan through business dealings and can`t believe he was so soft on MM for so long.
I fear MM` legacy is a bunch of players not good enough to get enough points whoever gets the job. My early bird is sitting in my bedroom drawer, where it will stay until us Wolves fans have our new manager. Even then it may just get ripped up and put in the bin, where it would have ended up in mad Mick was still there.
Im taking the 20-1 bet for Benitez to take us for 13 games: master tactician, available and ready for opening the big interview for May – depending on where we are
I sincerely hope we do not get Bruce.
Holloway has shortened to 13/2.
I guess its down to the waiting game.
It might be that Morgan is offering a short term contract, renegotiable at the end of the season. Might be the reason for the Curbishley and Bruce gossip, as they want a longer contract.
It might also open the door for someone young and hungry.
Love to see what Solksjaer could do with our squad over the next 13 games…
I live in Norway and can assure you Solskjær isn’t as good as the UK are getting the impression of. He is decent, but he’s had a sh*itload of money behind him as Molde is owned by one of the richest men in Norway, Kjell Inge Røkke. That’s how they got OGS in the first place, money. That and the promise that there would be plenty more of it to spend on players. The Norwegian league is also terrible, probably on par with League 1. He’s recently stated that he won’t leave Molde when he was linked with the Sunderland job. Just to throw that into the mix…
Still, rather him than Bruce!
Lets hope who ever it is that they surprise us and keep us up!
The only person whose odds have shortened today is Roy Keane, who will certainly be motivated to do better than Mick!
Just a thought if we had lost at qpr and beat Albion would mick have been sacked, also was it a colncidence early birds went on sale the same day? I’ve been asked so many times the last 12 months should he go, the answer yes if you can find someone better, sadly I’m not seeing that. All looking a bit of a mess to me. The bookies and press don’t know and I’m sure jez and Steve don’t.
The rumours that Bruce wants a longer deal and Curbishley didnt impress the M&M’s wont go away – now Roy Keane is being touted – careful what you wish for brigade must be rubbing there hands !
Keane will be highly motivated to better McCarthy with the same team.
I think he might be a shrewd appointment….
I can’t understand the logic in the Morgan/Moxey 13 game hire plan? Why not a longer term hire with a bonus for staying up and a wages reduction if relegated? Is it more important to get a Manager who will accept a 13 game contract or to get the right manager?
Using Curbs as an example surely its in our best interests to give him a decent length contract because;
a) If we stay up well want to keep him. He’ll be the new Messiah, and we’ll be desperate to hold onto him.
b) if we go down we’ll want to keep him! We’ll have the advantage of having (arguable) the best manager in the championship to help us get back up.
If anything Curbishly would benefit from a 13 game contract as he’d prefer not managing in the Championship. The fact he’s not happy with that shows the real measure of the man, he wants to be with Wolves long term.
Any manager is going to have trouble keeping us up but Its like Morgan/Moxey are saying ‘if we go down its your fault so we may not want to keep you.” To let a guy like Curbs slip through our fingers is breaking my heart.
Good post well said….
Looking at the league tables and the remaining fixtures one thing is for sure. Whoever gets the job has got a hell of a task on his hands. We are going to need an improvement of somewhere near O’neill proportions.
Of six home games, three are Man U, Man City and Arsenal. Two of the others are Bolton and Blackburn which have to be won, there are no more chances left.
We also need to be competitive away from home.
It’s a tough ask and no doubt one Messrs Curbishley et al are well aware of. So any short term contracts with the major money being a bonus for staying up might well put most off.
With all the hullabaloo surrounding Mick getting the sack, i for one have missed how bad our situation is. Probably worse than the mere statistics of 21 points from 25 games might suggest.
Basically we are in the shit and i think relegation is more likely than not.
Whether we stay up or not, the most important thing is who is in charge at the start of next season. Moxey and Morgan just have to get this right.
I agree it’ll be tough, Martin. Although when some people talk of needing seven wins etc I think it is a bit over-the-top. It reminds me of the old joke about outrunning the bear – i.e. we only need to outrun QPR and Blackburn. Maybe not even get more points than them.. just lose our games by fewer goals!
That’s very true Adam but looking at all teams fixtures, i’m not confident we can keep above three others. Wigan yes, Blackburn maybe but Bolton worry me.
And let’s face it, without improvement we could even end up at the bottom.
Oh well, might even win a few games next year!
This is getting dull as we go into another week of spin. Who are they waiting for the Dalai Lama?
Players must be thinking WTF is going on and Clippie will be using up paper like you don’t believe
Working tactics and team sheets out. God help us.
Let’s trust Morgan. I’m getting the vibe that it’s going to be somebody unexpected. Could be good or bad. Hughton? Souness? Sven? Holloway? Poyet? Somebody right out of the blue?
It’s ironic: I was campaigning for Mick to be sacked from the end of November until early January, and the two MMs did nothing. Then just as I had postponed my campaign until May, they sack him.
Anyway, whoever it is guys, it’s no use throwing our toys out of the pram before he’s had even one game. Let’s get behind him until the end of the season. I was appalled by McCarthy, but I was prepared to get behind him for the last three months, and we must all do the same for whoever is appointed.
No time for personal sulks; time for all hands to the pump!
Don’t forget you were probably being called an idiot from November to January for doing so by the very people who eventually sacked him (citing his record from November to January) too!
Oh, yes, Adam B, I took my share of insults for calling for the sacking of McCarthy in no uncertain terms, however, once the transfer window was over, I was ready to get behind Mick for the run-in. But those brickbats are now besides the point, now we’re in the hole we’re in we all have to pull together to try and avoid relegation. As I said:
No time for personal sulks; time for all hands to the pump!
The more this goes on there more that it looks like an idiotic decision to kick Mick out. Morgan blinked and now we’re gonna pay for it. Bruce turning US down? Crikey, if he gets appointed I’m going to bring up my breakfast.
Maybe right now, Dave, but I think it’s a tremendous positive that Morgan has got personally involved. The steady drift to oblivion has been halted. Morgan’s reputation is now on the line. In this case, I feel very strongly that out of darkness cometh light. Exactly when, I’m not so sure; but either now or in the summer.
I’m not sure how you can describe 3 seasons in the prem as a ‘steady drift to oblivion’ after the previous 25 years we’ve been though. I think Morgan’s made an ill advised knee-jerk reaction to the sh1t defeat. Feels like a return to the Hayward failure years to me. Mick could have stayed on the summer – we’d probably have had more chance of staying up than we do now, and we’d have had a manager to get us back up again. I hate, hate Bruce, he’s a total idiot-hole.
I’m dead against Bruce too, David. This season was a steady drift to oblivion on top of surviving with just three minutes of regular time to go in the last match of last season. That was a must-win match against Steve Kean, but we went three down before half-time and lost 2-3 in the end. So our first season in the Premier League we got 38 points, the second season 40 points (surviving by a hair’s breadth) and this season we are way off hitting 38 points at the moment. The first year, OK, bare survival was acceptable, but we’ve now had 18 months with no improvement in results combined with some really dire football. Passing the ball back to the goalie from kick-off? That’s just being bloody-minded and snubbing your nose at the concept of constructive football. For me, it was oblivion here we come!
Sorry Nippy, still agree with David, still better than the trawling quagmire of the previous 25yrs. Even MU hoof on occasion.
Will it be Roy Keane?
Personally I’d prefer him to Bruce…….
NEWSFLASH Niall Quinn to leave Sunderland with immediate effect.
Get him in here pronto Steve and show the fat greaseball the exit.
Then I will believe there’s a real chance of sorting the shambles the clubs in.
Bai Jaisus! Noc chance. He’s leaving to go home and life a peaceful, quiet life on the Emerald Isle. Funny that, because whenever I go there it is anything but 😉
He’d feel he was back home in our dressing room begorrah.
Oh well, a moments euphoria at the thought of a new CE was nice.
Back to the moxey madhouse then…..!
I don’t get it.
One Minute Bruce is the Favourite, next minute he has turned us down, Then he’s Favourite again..
Does anybody really know anything about what is going on. The Silence from Molineux is Deafening.
Just had a look at the Express and Star, back page saying Bruce denying that he has pulled out, so nobody really knows what’s going on.
Just one thing about the Express and Star, just lately I’m convinced that whoever is running the sports dept, loves winding up the Wolves fans, they know that we dont want Bruce at Wolves, so great big Bruce headline on the back page, whoever is in charge they ain’t no Wolves fan, my guess Albion or Villa is where there support is. The bloody paper is a complete bullshiting load of crap, that’s why I stopped buying it ages ago.
Sorry about the rant, not sure if anyone would agree ?
Its pretty obvious you do still buy it.
Do agree though its a load of tosh, not so much that it winds wolves fans up, think it winds all fans up.
It seems they get all their info from the national press and then re print it asap. Why don`t they actually try and investigate stories and break their own `news`.
I use the website don’t buy the paper…… Should have said that in my post…
BBC sport just reporting Curbishley pulled out of Wolves running…
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17098513?
just read that as well. What I’d like to know is how do the visions differ? Surely it can’t me that different. Survive and build the club, be sustainable but also don’t be afraid to back the manager with the money he needs.
It looks as if the wage structure and chairman input on players brought in has put him off.
And now some ‘novices’ Linked?!
