After a slow start to the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers have motored up the Premier League table to such an extent that they are currently a best price of 14/1 for a ‘Top 4 Finish’ with leading bookmakers such as Betfair and BetVictor.
On Saturday they also host Manchester United at Molineux in one of the ties of the 3rd round in the FA Cup. Wolves are marginal favourites going into the game at 8/5 with Betway, with the Red Devils at 9/5 with 888Sport and the draw on offer at 13/5 with BoyleSports. For those that envisage Wolves lifting the trophy at Wembley Stadium, bet365 offer 25/1.

There’s also the small matter of the Europa League to contend with, with Wolves through to the last 32 of the competition where they face a very winnable tie against Spanish La Liga strugglers Espanyol. There’s undeniably plenty for Wolves fans to be excited about as we enter the second half of the season but, with so much to play for over the coming months, Nuno Espírito Santo will be desperately hoping for some fresh legs in the form of new signings to bolster what is a relatively small squad in the January transfer window.
Plenty of players have been linked with a move to Molineux over the coming months and it would make sense to add at least a couple of new recruits with the club going into 2020 fighting on three fronts.
Targeting Franck Kessié
AC Milan’s Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessié is long understood to have been a target for the club. With Milan struggling in Serie A, they are said to be willing to cash-in on the 23 year-old.
He has underperformed this season and there have been reports of off-field situations, such as being late to training and using his phone in the dressing room, so any move for the player comes with a note of caution.
The injury that has sidelined centre-back Willy Boly has made reinforcements at the back something of a priority. The Ivory Coast defender could be back in the near future, but Nuno has had to switch Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss to play in defence at times in recent months, which then impacts on the midfield.
Robin Koch an Option
One option is said to be Freiburg’s 23 year-old German international centre-back Robin Koch, while Lille’s 21 year-old Brazilian Gabriel Magalhães is another potential target at the back who would provide Nuno with the depth required.
There’s also been a longstanding interest in another Lille player in midfielder Boubakary Soumaré, although his performances this season have now made him a target for the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Other Transfer Gossip
Royal Antwerp’s 22 year-old Angolan-born Portuguese wing-back Aurelio Buta has apparently been the subject of several scouting missions this season. There is also believed to be strong interest in Red Bull Salzburg’s 23 year-old South Korean striker Hwang Hee-chan.
Closer to home, Wolves have also been linked with Burnley winger Dwight McNeil, Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant and Preston North End defender Ben Davies.
These are clearly exciting times at Molineux and with two or three prudent additions to the squad in January, the season could get better still.
